I can't determine the year. It is not a Brittish HIWATT of the Dave Reeves era. It looks to be (judging from the aesthetic of the printed media on the face plate) mid to late 80's-90's perhaps. It has a nice clean channel that breaks up when pushed. It uses el34's whcich I have always liked. One input-two channels. Footshwitchable only (no manual switch on the face, which doesn;t bother me in the slightest). The Tone tends toward high end. When I bought it , it had a shabby set of 3 JJ's and one Sylvania in the power section. IT was losing volume after approx. 20 minutes of play. I put in all new preamp tubes (plain ol' sovtek 12AX7's) and ordered some Svetlana EL34's fro the power section. THis fixed everything. The tone evend out considerably even though it still likes to be bright. I just cut the treble and mids and boost the bass. It sounds pretty good.
The Lead channel is too hot for my tastes for most appliciations. I hardly ever use that super overdriven preamp sound but this amp will do it...All the way from slight crunch when banged on, to Tony Iommi and beyond..It's fairly versatile and decently loud....
I play it through a Carvin 4X12 and it sounds great in rehearsal..
This particualr amp is reasonably quiet too. I record with the slightest bit of noise supression applied to the line on the recording console...No complaints.. This amp, she's a good.

loads of different sounds. The eq is good.
If you can play the clean channel at full tilt or near, it sounds pretty cool...Nice clip. It doesn't sound anywhere near as full as my '65 Showman. But what will?

I can't even find any information on who owned the HIWATT name when this amp was produced. SOme fellows in New York, I gather...
But, no one even knows anything about this amp. Furtunately, it's made of standard parts and is not very complicated. Not as simple as the Dave Reeves era hand wired HIWATTs, but still, it's not a rocket or anything...Just an amp.

I have tons of other stuff. This is one amp. I like lower wattage amps, truth be told. I just se this kind of stuff and buy it, knowing it will be handy for rehearsals or whatever.
Live, you can use a smaller combo and it'll be just fine.

I'm not sure the year on this amp, somewhere in the late 80's though I'm assuming. Hiwatts were being made in the USA at this point. The wiring is not point to point either as with older Hiwatts. This amp is all tube, I don't know enough about this really. I believe it has 4 El-34s and 3 12ax7s. There is an effects loop in the back and a line out a long with a left and right speaker out. The amp is 100 watts I believe. There's a clean and a lead channel which can only be switched with a foot switch. Pretty basic amp really, only gets a five for features because there's plenty that have more. All though this should more than suit most people as far as amps go.

The lead channel is what really shines on this amp. It won't suit you if you want a lot of low end crunch. However I find this has really nice lead tone good for getting a good mid 70's Robert Fripp sort of sound. It's just very smooth and very tight sounding, doesn't get all feed back sounding either with the gain cranked all the way up.
The clean channel is also more than suitable for most situations, not as good as a fender, but definately good. There's a lot of treble to it, so I tend to back off a bit.

This amp seems very solid it's lasted probably close to 20 years, I've only owned it 2 and have had no problems other than replacing a few tubes.

Not sure. As far as I know they're sort of hard to get a hold of. Fernandes owns Hiwatt currently and has made some pretty quality equipment with the Hiwatt name, mainly the DC-40. Other than that I can't really find any info on this particular model, so not sure how much help they'd be.

I've been playing nearly 9 years. Before this I owned a Line 6 which well doesn't even come close to any good tube head out there. Then again if you buy a Line 6 chances are you're all about the effects and that's fine for some people. Basically I don't know a whole lot about tube heads and won't pretend to. For the money this is one of the better heads I've played though and really isn't an easy Hiwatt to find. If you've got sort of prog rock sound and like to pull off harmonics and such this amp is sure to do the trick. Probably would even suit most lead guitarists very well. Only thing I'd change is that it should have a button on the amp to switch from lead to clean, but the footswitch works fine. Overall I'd buy another one if I could find it if it were lost or stolen. Pretty much has become my main stay and blows my Sunn t50c away, then again it's a completely different sound.
