Crunchy 2nd lead channel and perfect for my tuning 1/2 below E in addition to dropping the low E string another full note to D flat. I use a Digitech GNX3000 effects processor with this amp, but in all honesty the clean sound on this amp is SUPERB!!!! Even cranked up all the way! I bought it used in December of 2006, appearantly no one on the central coast in California didn't know the quality of this amp like I do and I got it for a steal since it sat in this store for 5 months.

Sound Quality : 10
Fantastic! No hum, clean is extra clean and the chorus and reverb enhance the clean sound extensivley!

Reliability : 10
I've cranked this amp up to max many times and I have never had a problem with it even with it being 10+ years old.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I've never had to use them.

Overall Rating : 10
Wheather I am using the amp alone or combined with my GNX3000 my 2 Ibanez guitars sing brightly through this amp. I am a Hughes & Kettner user for life!

Bought used on Craigslist, tis is a "fuzzy model"
Features are well covered, but in short:
- 3 foot switchable channels (clean, crunch, lead)
- tube preamp
- 2x100W stereo with chorus and reverb.
- 2 Celestion Rockdriver speakers
- seperate bass, middle, treble, and chorus controls for the Clean/crunch and lead channels
- 2 inputs: high, low
- Fx stereo parallel loop with fx mix control
- Stereo recording output
- Headphone jack
- Dual speakers output for each stereo channel if you want to use an external cabinet or combine it with internal speakers.
- Footswitch

Sound Quality : 10
Clean channel- Amazing and clear. It may not be quite as pristine as a Fender, but it is heads above most new amps.I ahvent pushed the amp too hard to see the break up on clean

Lead channels are both pretty flexible and nasty. Drop D tuned guitars sound very crunchy.

I have 2 Dean Cadillacs (one with coil taps), a Fender Thinline Tele, A strat copy and a Dean Hollow Body electric. the humbuckers sound great, but this amp shines with the Tele and Hollow Body on the clean side with the Chorus. Big and shimmery.

I bought this used, so it has a few dirty pots, otherwise it is very quiet.

Reliability : 8
Its used so I would never use it live wthout a back up, but so far it seems dependable.

Customer Support : 10
All know of the webste is the manual down load, but my local shop speaks highly of their support.

Overall Rating : 10
Simply put I love it. I was looking for specific features and this thing met all of them in spades.

weitreichendes spektrum an wunderbar klaren sounds.
effekte in jedem bereich verschiedene soundm?glichkeiten.

regelm??ig sauber.
ansonsten: kein potiknistern, kein schalterwechseln, kein
r?hrenwechseln, kein endstufenabkacken, kein buchsenausleiern,
nix. er spielt und spielt und spielt.
erste sahne

Customer Support : No Opinion
keine ahnung, hatte ja nie ?rger

Overall Rating : 10
superlecker.
ich forde hartes metall,
mein amp gibt mir hartes metall!

This amp was built in 1996, in Germany I suposed. The image is not the one publish above, is the cool blue one (wich was used before the "chrome" style). Despite the design, all features are the same as previuos reviews:
- 3 channel (clean, crunch, lead)
- ECC83 tube in the preamp (like marshall's valvestates)
- 2x100W stereo with chorus and Accutronics reverb.
- 2 Celestion Rockdriver Vintage speakers
- Clean-crunch channel: clean volume, crunch volume, bass, middle, treble, rate and depth of the chorus.
- Lead channel: mode 1 or 2 selector, lead gain, bass, middle, treble, lead master, rate and depth of chorus.
- 2 inputs: high, low
- Fx stereo parallel loop with fx mix control
- Accutronics reverb
- Stereo recording output
- Headphones
- Speakers output if you want to use an external cabinet or combine it with internal speakers.
- Footswitch

In my opinion Hughes & Kettner guys have developed a great amp. Lot of features, but not useless. I'm very impressed of the versatility of this beauty. The weight is too high, but that is not important to me.

Sound Quality : 10
I use it on a studio with an epiphone les paul standard and a digitech rp80 connected in the fx loop. All sounds amazing, the stereo capability it's a goal, specially if you are using a stereo effects unit.
My style of music is rock, hard rock, gothic and sometimes a bit of metal, like Led Zeppelin, ACDC, Heroes del Silencio, Black Sabbath, Queen, The Cure, The Darkness...
Like someone said before, this amp was not design to play metal, but when I want rectifier distortion I used the the digitech emulated amps and the problem disapears.

The clean channel is simply awesome. Very rich, lot of tones, very versatile. I like the fact that if you turn the volume to 7-8 values it begins to distort a bit, like vintage valve amps. It response on the volume of the pickups, the tone of them, and how hard you play, wich is very important. The stereo chorus improves the warm sound.

Crunch channel is also big sounding but not as good as clean. They have the same eq but doesn't matter. It covers clean sounds (crunch volume at 0-5) and distorted (5-10 level). The response is higher than the clean channel. It's perfect to get blues sound and play chords. With the volume at max, it gets the sound of malcolm young guitar!

The Lead channel has 2 modes. With the mode 1 you can get from a warm soft distortion to a crunchy heavy distortion. This channel is special to play hard rock. Mode 2 increases the amount of distortion, compression, and bass frequencies. I love the lead 1, it sounds like vintage amps, it's simply classic rock sound.

The eq of this amp works as a cut/boost and controls influence each other, this fact is a standard in high-quality amps. These two characteristics are very important to the final sound.

Reliability : 9
I've bought it second hand, but no problems, the tube of the preamp doesn't need a replacement. The external appearence seems to be built as a rock.

Customer Support : 9
No need to use the tecnichal service. The amp is 9 years old, it seems to me that I would need them to replace the tube next year. The web is quite good, I downloaded the manual in spanish becuase original was only in german and english.

Overall Rating : 10
I'm in love with this amp, I was looking exactely for this one. For me it's very important clean sounds, and classic rock distortion, and the Attax series suits this two facts. Stereo is a goal, specially when you are running a stereo effects unit like mine.

The quality of the sound is not at the same level as the price: it's much higher!!!!

In my opinion people tend to search marshall, fender, peavey, and they don't think on other amps that sounds much better than the famous ones on this price.

If you have the opportunity to get one, specially of 2nd hand, try it, you will fall in love with it.

Point is anybody can use this amp..it's just so simple, but in a good way. The E.Q. works as a boost/cut rather than a parametric and for me it's just awesome

Sound Quality : 10
Originally I was going to buy a Roland JC-120, because I am really based on clean brit-pop, shoegazer sounds...but then I realised I might want a dirty sound one day..and low and behold the JC sounds like utter crap with distortion. The H&K however, awesome, oh so awesome dirty sound. The actual amp distortions I don't particuarlly like, nut my Line 6 distortion modeler coupled with this amp had triple rectifiers running home to their momma-boogies. Delay and chorus are my main effects and nothing has even come close to the sound that my delay modeler can put through this thing...not even the $1500 Line 6 Vetta..

Reliability : 10
No problems at all..I would trust this amp with my life.

Customer Support : No Opinion
never needed to speak to them..but judging by the way Volkswagon's coustomer service is..I'm sure these people are just as good..unless they're influenced by Hitler.

Overall Rating : 10
I can't say it's the best amp I've ever heard..having heard vintage AC-30's, but for a practically brand new amp $550 was an unbelieveable deal..I don't know if I could live without this thing, deffinetly wouldn't want to. I love you Attax 200, you're the best.

no need for suggestions anymore. i tried so many different amps over the last few weeks, and i finally found one that isperfect for me. i found an old marshall jcm800 mkii 100w lead series, and with hot pickups, i can get my ideal cleanish sound. i go through my boss eq pedal with the output maxxed, and eq'ed to taste fo dirty. damn this amp is sweet....it kills my friend's 900.

bought new two years ago. tube pre with ss power section. clean/crunch channels share eq but seperate volumes. lead channel has two modes. the second mode being a higher gain, scooped mids sound. dual stereo chorus with rate and depth controls for clean/crunch(combined) and lead. rated at 120 watts x 2.

Sound Quality : 8
i use this amp with jackson usa kelly guitars with emg81 pickups at the bridge. i play metal along the lines of slayer, machine head, etc.
the clean/crunch channel is ok. i like a bit of crunch on my clean sound. when used with the chorus, its got a full sound. i don't use this channel a lot, but it does give me a contrast to my dirty sound.
as for the lead channel....i always use mode 2. it doesn't quite have the gain i need, so i run my guitar thru a boss eq pedal into the high sens. input. the pedal also allows me to get closer to the sound i need, though i still can't get it. i mix power chords with single notes and pinch harmonics, and this is the only setup i've tried that can give me a crushing rythm sound and still make the harmonics squeal. the only problems i have with this channel's sound are:
a)it could use a bit more gain, and b)it could use a bit more definition on the highest gain settings. i use the stereo chorus on this channel with the rate and depth controls at zero. this makes the sound completely huge and crushingly heavy.

Reliability : 9
very dependable. never broken down, but it seemed to have lost some gain since i bought it. changing the preamp tube cured that, though.
like all german made products, it is over-engineered.

Customer Support : No Opinion
never dealt with them.

Overall Rating : 9
i've been playing for about seven years...but seriously for the last two. i am looking around at other amps because of the lack of gain and definition on the lead channel. so far i've played thru a friend's marshall jcm900 and a local store's mesa single recto. neither could get the sound i'm looking for....the mesa distortion is too focused, while the marshall was too loose. also, it seemed that either you could dial in a tone great for power chorded chunkiness or squealing harmonics, but not both at the same time. plus, they both sounded thin and wimpy compared to the rig i have now. (the stereo chorus is HUGE sounding). i'm gonna keep looking for a rig that i can use to get this particular sound out of my head and into the air. if you have any recommendations, feel free to contact me.

Tube preamp section. This is one of the original blue velvet covered models. I've played the newer ones (my singer had one) and thought it was sterile sounding in comparison (although it looked nicer). You can look at the other ads on this page if you want to read about all the features yet again. One of the best things; THIS AMP HAS MIDI! It cost about $150 to install and its awsome if you prefer using high-tech rack gear in your setup instead of tripping on a rats nest of stomp boxes

Sound Quality : 7
It's very quiet and well mannered. Very much not some gnarly monster but more of a James Bond amp. I really like the stereo chorus. It's super big sounding. The stereo FX loop is great for running stereo FX (again super big sounding). Clean sounds are great. Crunch is usable at best. The two distortions are OK by themselves and improve greatly with the stero chorus. Slightly reserved sounding. It's more high-tech sounding than it is organtic sounding. The sounds will get you by no problem. But it's the MIDI, versitility, and features that will make your life easy.

Reliability : 10
This thing has been through hell and back. About 150 gigs and countless practices (that's a lot of banging around folks). It has never let me down and I only had to change the preamp tube once.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing for nearly 15 years in the Milwaukee area. Dispite some of the poor sounding reviews on the amp's over all distortion tones, I've recieved many compliments on my live sound by my musician peers. Is it the amp or the player? Who knows. But some of those same people have switched to Hughes & Kettner. But I use to use it with a Rocktron Intellefex. These days I'm using a Rocktron Piranha and/or Rocktron Por GAP preamp (because I wanted even more flexablity than this very flexable amp could offer). I'm now using the amp primarly as a power source and back-up if my rack goes down.

This is an update to my earlier, just bought it version. It still has all the features.

Sound Quality : No Opinion
I have lost some interest in the thing, but gained interest as well. The distortion isn't quite that great anymore. Don't get me wrong, it is very usable and it isn't bad or anything. It just isn't tube and it isn't something unique or jaw dropping. You won't turn any heads or anything monumental. The clean channel still impresses me though. It sounds great with my Paul right at half gain. That way, when you bang the E or A chord, it kinda says "hey, here I am." The power isn't abnormal. Don't let the 240 watts fool you. That is for the 4 ohm setting, it is running at about 150 or so with the two 8 ohm speakers. And they are not tube watts either. I have heard hundred watt Marshalls that would kill this thing volume-wise. It is a very nice sized combo. I could get by with less...but am glad I didn't opt for anything louder. I'm glad it isn't sounding like 240 watts. When you start to gig and use a good P.A. you will like not having a blaring thing right behind you. This is not a metal amp, but can serve as one if it isn't your main genre. I am still quite pleased, but don't know if I'd spend what I did on it. If you find one, used or new, for under 650, grab it though. One more thing...I tried the tube series by H&K (not associated with the tri-amp) and liked the Attax models better. The tube ones all sound rather bland.

Reliability : No Opinion
It just up and shut off on me once. Power on, just no sound. I think it might have been a power surge - that was the only time I wasn't using my power strip. I took it to a Music go Round (a dealer of H&K), they fixed it under my warranty, and I was using it in less than a week. No problems from the store, or H&K.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
If you can get a deal, it is worth it. If you play a strat, it might be worth getting a new one. If you play clean strat, but also need some grind and a little distortion every once and a while, you will love this. Paul users-It works great, but I'd try some others too.

it was made in 95' and the price is marked from $1,149 to $899. plays like a dream! very versatile. The head features stero/mono capabilities and when playing through a marshall jcm 900 with stero button on it blows you away. the clean tone was suprisingly good (only suprising because I heard how crunchy the distortion was) usually you don't find a pair like that. the chorus was very good but it could easily be overdone. the clean tone was not blues-ish but it was clean. and that thing got loud. on stero mode it uses 125 watts per side. (yeah i know!) then i got worried cause i was using a prs custom 22 wich will make a rouge amp sound good. (WELL MAYBE NOT ROUGE) so i got a friends cheap 125 dollar washburn and it still sounded good! definately a good choice.
