Hughes & Kettner Bassmaster Preamp

It is a single channel all tube Amp, 9.5" so half a rackspace. Preamp ECC83, Poweramp EL84. It has Gain, Tone and Master Knobs and three boost switches (see below for details).
The speaker out is great, as well as the outputs for PA, Poweramp or Lineout. Fantastic amp for practice and recording as well as preamp.

I use it for Bass and Guitar. It is exceptionally good with the ES-335 type (try neck pickup) or Strat, not su much the midrange peaky high gain metal axe. It is really perfect for clean from funk to jazz and good for rockabilly (not live of course). A very quiet amp with a great tone. I put it through an 1x12" cabinet which works very fine for home use, recording an quiet jazz. Forget about distortion, but the warm clean tone and the versatility due to the very effective tone knob and the boost switches is unrivaled in all tube single channel amps even far above its prive range. If you want distortion put a pedal in front of the amp.

It is very reliable. After more than 15 years it works just like on the first day. No service needed, no tube matching needed. But still, never gig without a backup.

The webiste is fine. That's all I can say. No problem yet.

I use a very good ES-335 copy and a Strat with Texas Specials. I Love the sound, the versatiliy, the recording options... I love everything about this amp. If it were stolen I would try to track down another one, as they are incredible value for money, unfortunately they are rare.

many people don't understand that this is not just a tube preamp,but a powerful recording tube amp. About 7 loud watts in the size of a car stereo ,with so many features ,you can even plug directly in a mixer and obtain an incredible bass or guitar sound!!

I have recorded a lot with this thing,it has a powerful equalizer,it's incredible how such a small box can sound. Will kick *** to all the digital multieffects,it sounds incredible through a speaker,a mixer,a PC,you name it!!!
An unique and essential piece of gear,sadly not many people understood what this device really is!!!

Never had a problem,but being a Class A tube amp,make sure you don't obstruct the air intake!

the amp was made in the 80'ties, together with the cream mashine and the metalmaster. as little audio tools. the bass master has been developed together with peter sontag the famous germany bassplayer and the technicains from from ESH basses. the front panel got a gain, a tone and master. and bass,mid,trebble boost as a red push button with a straigh frequenz.the tone pot. is from 30 hz-150hz + 4 db/18 db 3 khz-15 khz + 4-22 db
bass boost.80-400 hz + 6 db
mid boost.500hz-2khz +12db
high boost.1 khz-20 khz +8 db

it's a preamp and a very small bassamp with 5 watt power, out of a el 84 tube the preamp tube is a ecc 83.

sound realy fantastic, there where not no many made, world wide.

very popular in germany, and will still be used in studios here.
they really do what they shut, very big range of varius sounds.
nice distortion bass sounds from 2 o'clock on.

i was allways looking for something that can bring my live bass sound in the studio, with out my big stack. and that's it. amazing soung ,and i can take it home and use it for practice with a 1x12"little cab.sadley all output's are "unbalanced".tha's the only minus, but the concept is from the 80'ties so...
