This amp is one versatile unit. No built in effects (but then again, some amps that have effects packed in are pretty crappy) apart from reverb. I love the reverb, you can get that fully cheesy 80's rock solo sound with the touch of a button! Has an effects loop and headphone jack. 2 channels, clean and lead (crunch). When I bought it footswitch was not included, so I just used a spare footswitch (fs-1) i had and it works fine.
It has enought power for me so far, It makes my ears ring, and I know in 40-55 years time I will have no hearing at all, thanks to the damage done by this beast!

It using an Ibanez RX which has Powersound humbuckers (i think). Sure, its no genuine strat or RG, but it plays wicked fo what it is. Out of this amp it sounds awesome. If your into a bit more mellow stuff then this amps got what you need. I whack my guitar onto the neck humbucker and crank the reverb in clean and I almsot got that Joe Satriani - "Midnight" style tone. Scoop the mids, crank the gain and you will not regret it. This is the new cure for constipation. Screw laxatives, just crank the gain and strike an E chord and your away. It'll shake your house down (the cabinet shakes a bit, but no speaker fart/fuzz).
There is much variety in this amp, metal, punk, country, jazz, you name it, its here. The reverb knob just adds so much more variety. (Obviously playing around with the pickup selector will change your sound also)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it'll last.
However, when I bought it, it had some dry joints that were taken care of by the warranty repairer but other than that, it should be fine. When the repairer was test driving the amp to see what the problem was, he drove the thing hard as. Harder than I ever dreamed would be possible from a 60-watt.

The warranty repairer was a bit slow repairing the dry joints, but that has nothing to do with hughes and kettner themselves.

I've been playing for about 3 years, this is my first 'real' amp, and I love it! I primarily play modern rock, pop-punk and punk, but love mellow stuff as well. One of my fave songs to play on clean is "Midnight" by Joe Satriani, among other stuff. I love everything about this amp. One thing I would like though is a bit more high end.
And the bottom line is this amp sounds awsome with MY guitar, which is a revelation in itself (mind you, an RG is on the way!).
Overall the amp kicks ass!

this amp has the best clean channel ive heard. the distortion channel is ok but not heavy enough for my taste. its not noisy at all. I use a esp gutiar and a boss MT-2 with this amp and it sounds great. this is about the closest thing to a tube amp you can get without actually buying a tube amp.

this is a very portable tube like very clean to very dirty vintage to modern sounding amp. It has every feature you could ask for and a very wet almost effects type sound of a very modern expensive amp. I would however like to see them offer a three channel version of this .I have searched all over for an amp that has a jaw dropping modern clean and distortion sound that I like both channels and everything fell short except this amp . I like a very clear bell like clean channel that can get a little grit in it if you want like a tube amp and a very modern distortion channel for modern rock . I couldnt find any amp that had that sound except this one . I compaired every brand and model for months and searched every guitar shop inside of 100 miles!!!!! . Here's the kicker on this amp thought It sounds like your guitar tone without coloration so if you have a cheap guitar or a guitar that dosent match your music style it wont work well for you since it sounds like your guitar . I hated this amp when i played it with a cheep strat copy guitar it the shop it had almost no tone at all but when I brought my guitar in to try it out it blew me away how clean and trebleley bell like the tone was on the clean channel and how fantastic the distortion was .I've played about every kind of distortion box and tube pedal out their looking for the perfect sound at tripple the cost of this amp alone and they paled in compairison. My only complaint with this amp is it has alot of noise on the high gain settings on the second channel at high volume so buy a noise gate and you'll be set .
If you want a tube like amp clean channel with a more modern sounding distortion channel this is THE amp

You can buy amps out their with more features and effects but what it all boils down to is that its hard or impossible to find an amp that has this kind of tone of a clean tube amp with a modern distotion sound at any price .Lets face it built in effects are nice but when you buy them built in you let them pick the type , quality and adjustability .so why not buy the amp that already has the sound you want and build on the effects you prefer .I was prepaired to spend 3000 but never thought I would be buying the sound I want at 300 .
The bogner extacy tube head did have that sound and I liked it the best it was 3000 for the head and 999 for the cabinet !!!!!! Also try the new VOX AD50VT valvetronics guitar amp it's the newer more modern sounding version of the valvetronics series at 1 to 50 selectable watts , a real tube preamp and a 12 inch speaker with modulation and effects at a mear 359.00 . I thought it sounded better and more realistic than the older valvtronics series . You will love either amp

I play a Robert Cray Fender, it's sounds good. Make a little more noise on the lead channel than I like but it's ok. I run my schecter through it...wow!!! Killer sound! Clean is good on everything but the lead is great for such a little amp. I've played through solids and tubes. This is a great bridge between them. It's no twin thats for sure but...wow, for $300 there is no going wrong.

I've owned 3 Marshalls and 2 Fenders. Right at the moment I can't get enough of this amp. I love the size and sound. I've been searching for a year trying everything out for a good little combo (I'm tired of dragging my stack around) and this is the best by leaps and bounds. Only wish it came with the foot switch.

The distortion in this amp is mostly suitable for metal. However, despite what "Shad" says in his/her review, this amp suffers from one major flaw. There is absolutely no treble in this amp whatsoever!! Both the clean and the distorted sounds sound like you've put 20 heavy blankets over the amp. Imaging putting a Mesa/Boogie metal amp in a soundproof room and then listening to it through the other side of a closed door. That's what this amp sounds like. I've played this amp using two Strats and one Gibson Nighthawk Standard. Same result with every guitar.
Sure, there is plenty of gain and this type of distortion is easy to play, so a beginner would like this. However, the lack of treble described above renders this amp totally useless.

i bought this amp as an in-home practice amp. i had limited expectations of it because it's solid state and inexpensive. i've always owned tube amps, mostly blackface or reissue fenders.... super reverb, twin, deluxe, ect. i'm not going to be so bold as to try and tell you that this amp sounds as good as a vintage twin or super reverb, but it does have a plesent voice of it's own. for and amp this size, it does produce some impressive tones. i'm a strat guy. plugging my 89 american standard strat plus with gold lace sensors into this amp, i set out to see what i could come up with. the clean channel is nice a clear and the eq on the amp provides enough tone shaping to quickly dial in a decent fender deluxe type clean sound. the reverb is suprisingly lush for an amp so small. one cool thing about the reverb is that it automatically lowers it's level when you switch to the lead channel... nice touch. the lead channel is what really surprised me. you can dial in a useable clean sound through almost any amp out there, but overdrive / distortion is another story. this amp has a very happening distortion! the eq offers good tone shaping to dial in the sound you're after. it's quite british sounding, marshall style distortion. again, i'n not claiming that you can sell your jcm 900 or SLP because this amp sounds identical, but it does produce a very useable distortion. lots of harmonic overtones, very responsive to what your doing with your guitar, pick attack, ect. this amp has a master volume also, so you can overdrive the clean channel and get a nice sound for rhythm work. my primary style of play is jam type music and blues... Phish, Dead, allmans, ect. the sounds i'm getting from this 1x12 combo are working well, and i love the weight factor! 30 lbs! i'm not sure i'm going to store my twin away and start playing live gigs with this one, but for band rehersals, it's been just awesome. oh, and the 60 watts is plenty loud for band applications.

after 15 years of playing, i've developed a pretty good ear for guitar and amp tones. again, this amp is a $299 solid state combo amp, not a $1200 twin or super reverb. that being said, it does produce a wealth of VERY useable sounds from both the clean and lead channels. i've tried several of the other amps in this price range that are either modeling amps or with built in effects and they didn't sound nearly as good to my ear. Hughes & Kettner put effort into making a small, affordable amp that would produce better than average sounds and left out the "built in effects" gimicks the other guys are using. this amp could be used in live band applications, it's that good and has the volume. in this price range, i really doubt you'd find anything that sounds better. it's far more than just a practice amp. if lost or stolen, i'd certainly buy another one. you won't be dissapointed with this amp.
