Hughes & Kettner Edition Blue 15 DFX

The Edition Blue 15 DFX is basically the same amp as the Edition Blue 15R,except that the spring reverb is replaced by separate digital effects [chorus/flanger/delay] and reverb sections.No effects loop or speaker out,though it has CD input RCA jacks and comes stock with a Celestion Super 8 speaker.I find that the inclusion of an overall master volume to give greater tonal flexibilty over having just a clean volume/gain/gain volume setup,which the 15 DFX has,as well.

I find the Edition Blue 15 DFX to be an overall good sounding,flexible little dual mode combo.The EQ is quite interactive,as changing the treble affects the midrange,and so on.The clean tone is fairly warm and full for such a small combo,and cranking the clean volume with the master volume to a desired level gives a nice tube like breakup.The gain mode offers a decent amount of gain,if somewhat fuzzy and compressed.I feel that backing down on the gain and then bringing up the gain volume,while using the master volume to the desired sound level,gives the most tube like overdrive tone and response.

The built in effects are solid for it's class,though I do find that the delay's limit of two decernable repeats to be a weak point.Btw,the delay does go up to 1.4ms,so there is potential for a better delay mode.The reverb is decent and can get fairy deep,though not nearly as warm and lush as a good spring reverb.

God only knows.

I've heard both good and bad,so who knows?

I took a shot at this cool little combo when Musician's Friend was having a blowout sale at only $69.00.While it will not be replacing my Mesa/Boogie MKIIC+ or Bedrock 1600 anytime soon,this little combo makes for a pretty nice late night jam and/or practice amp.Oh yeah,and the neat looking blue backlit panel makes for a cool nightlite,as well.
