I think my H&K was built in 2006-07 and plays like a dream. it has a clean and lead channel and both sound great.

i am using a les paul, gibson obviously, and it makes it sound better. i've also still got my first guitar which i tested it on and it makes it seem like it costs twice as much as it actually is.

I' ve been playing guitar for 20 years now and this is a great litle practise amp, or for little gigs and stuff. i also own a fender frontman 212r and a marshall stack with 8*12 speakers and a head. it sounds like a ??300+ amp and would definetely buy another if it was lost or stolen.

Just like all the other reviews - outstanding clean channel. Overdrive is harsh and unusble.

Cabinet seems tight. Good portable amp for like a jazz.

Great amp for warm clean tones rivaling the best Fenders. It almost to clean and high endy for me. Can be noisy with single coils. I tried using a distortion pedal, but the sound still was awful. The blue light is cool, but wasted on top designed controls because no one can see it except you. It would of been so cool if H&K would have made this amp with front control panel and some kind of modeling distortion circuit. I sold mine.

I wanted to add some newly discovered info to my below review of the Hughes & Kettner Edition Blue 30 DFX.I had previously stated that the delay had only one repeat.Actually, after using the delay with the clean channel,I discovered another slight repeat...but still much quieter than the first repeat. It is still very hard to hear the second repeat with the heavier overdriven tones.

I also found some cool tonal options on the high gain channel.Cranking the master volume and lowering the pre-amp gain, then using the universal master volume to control overall volume lets the overdrive tones respond much more like an overdriven power section...much smoother and more dynamic. To my ears, with the amp run like this,it sounds like a set of cranked EL34's...quite Marshall like.Cranking the clean volume with the volume set with the universal master yields similar results, but with much more of an American,Fender like voice. These news discoveries only add to the versatilty of this cool little combo.

The Edition Blue 30 DFX is basically the same as the Edition Blue 30R,except instead of having a spring reverb, there are seperate digital reverb and effects sections. The effects section includes chorus, flanger and delay [up to 1.4 ms].Features include a series effects loop,Jensen 35 watt Mod 10" speaker, shared active 3-band EQ,headphone out, footswitch jack,CD/Tape player in,clean volume, gain and overdrive volume and a master volume. The cool blue panel lighting offers a classy touch. The cabinet is almost fully enclosed, with just a 2" open slot at the bottom.

The clean section offers a nice, warm tube like tone and feel. One nice touch is how one can crank the clean volume and use the master volume to get a cool blues/rock grind. The active EQ is quite flexible [noon is flat EQ],allowing many different shades of clean.
The high gain mode is also quite versatile,as the active EQ really shines to give everything from fat, squacky classic rock to aggressive modern metal tones. There is lots of harmonically rich gain and sustain on tap with the gain control anywhere above 1 to 2 o'clock. The enclosed cabinet gives a full and solid bass response,so much so that when the volume gets above 10 or 11 o'clock, then the bass control needs to be tamed to keep the cabinet from resonating and rattling.Taming the gain and tweaking the EQ gives some nice alt rock, pop and blues tones.
As for the effects section,I found the delay mode to be somewhat disappointing,as I'm a delay freak, and the idea of having up to 1.4 ms of available delay had me excited.Unfortunately, the delay only offers one repeat...yes,one.I like to have at least three or four repeats available for high gain soloing.Oh well,at least the series effects loop allows me to use a delay pedal. The chorus and flanger modes do sound very good, and I actually like the digital reverb better than the spring unit on the Edition Blue 30R.
One last thing...the active EQ is quite interactive and requires some experimentation and tweaking to find the best tones.I found my happy medium with the bass at around noon, mids between 11 and 1 o'clock and the treble at around 1-2 o'clock.

Hard to say,as it's a fairly new model. One thing of note...while the Edition Blue 30R amp was made in Korea, the Edition Blue 30 DFX is made in Viet Nam.Anyways, the amp looks, feels and sounds solid and sturdy.

I really like this little 22 lbs combo. The tones and features are excellent, especially for it's class and price point. The Edition Blue 30 DFX gives a full and rich sound with good projection.Plus it can get surprising loud...just watch the bass control.
Oh yeah,I've been playing for close to 30 years and have owned everything from beater guitars to boutique amplifiers.Right now my favorite amps are my Mesa/Boogie MKIIC+ and Bedrock 1600.Guitars getting the most love are my Fender American custom Strat and my Washburn CT3.
The little Edition Blue 30DFX makes for a superb grab n' go for jams combo...now,if only the delay had more repeats...you listening,H&K?
