as i said , really good amp , best of any solid states (in my opinion) great for gigs , playing with band and home! , renember if u don't like the overdrive u can always buy some booster (like rocktron one.. which is very nice) or some distortion pedal which works really nice ;)

60W solid state amp. 2 channels with Celestion Speaker
Sound Quality

The clean channel is sweet and smooth but only at low volume levels, do not try to raise it more than a half then it get distorted. Overdrive channel is horrible. Sound is not bad but any decent amp sounds like this one.

I really don??t like this amp. It is the worst I have ever had in 20 years. The 60 watts are weak. I use to have a CRATE 60W and it sounded very much louder than this one and it was built like a tank it never failed. This H&K is very risky, it dropped me off on a gig once. The only good thing it has is the Celestion Speaker.

This is the H&K Edition Blue 60DFX model - 2 channel, 112 SS amp with digital reverb and separate fx: chorus, flanger, delay. Control panel is in the top behind the handle - nice blue-light effect when turned on. Line in and out, and CD input on the back. Optional footswitch. Headphone input. Light weight, around 30 lbs.
Sound Quality
:

The best thing about this amp is the clean channel - balanced, warm, analog tone - good EQ - the separate reverb and fx are just enough. The overdrive is ok, better than with some other SS amps. I actually liked the built-in drive best when cranked - gain at one half +/-, master on full. Adjust the mid dial down for scooped, or crank-it-up fer classic rock tone.
But....set the clean channel properly, put a good tube-drive pedal in front, like my tonebone classic, and this amp steps up to a higher level - GREAT blues tone with all my guits.

This is my first H&K amp. The clean tone of this amp beats the fender SS comparable hands down. It almost works with my archtop for jazz...not quite THAT good, but for everything else it works well. At $199US new, delivered, I gave it a 10 (fantastic value) - thanks MF!

This is a solid state 60 watt (really?) combo. Pretty simple. 2 channels, one clean, one overdrive, 1 EQ for both channels, a few crappy effects and good reverb. Both channels have separate volumes as well as a master volume, like most amps in this price range. I have used it mainly for practices but have actually gigged with 'them' (more on that later) a couple of times. The versatility of this amp is fairly good.
Sound Quality

Firstly the clean channel is great, i use a Strat and a SG and both sound great with on this channel. By putting the volume up, it starts to distort the sound, but not like a valve amp. Just makes it sound a bit harsher. It is a very nice sound with the Strat and the SG sounds good on the neck and middle setting, but the bridge sounds a bit rough. The 'distortion' channel is not amazing. If you like overdrive more than distortion, then this is better for you. The overdrive doesn't sound great, it is muffled and untidy. It kind of sounds like it wants to be a valve amp, but really doesn't. Don't even bother using a single coil on this channel either, it sounds truly disgusting. Also there tends to be a humming noise and a lot of feedback. For me, i play everything from blues to country and this doesn't really do it for me. You then have to take into account this is a solid state amp and built for practice mainly, so you cannot be too harsh on it.

Definitely not. This amp has terrible reliability. i bought it in July 2007. I had it 3 weeks, decided i would use it at a gig as a solo booster with another amp and it blew half way through the set. Wasn't even on full volume and i had a power breaker because i know about pub generators and the fluctuating currents. I then exchanged it for another one which lasted me for a few months at low volumes and just in my room and the circuts cut out. I still have a warranty so i'm looking into repairing it, but i am getting a new valve amp as i cannot rely on this one anymore.

I haven't dealt directly with Hughes and Kettner. I exchanged the amp at the shop, who were perplexed that it had broke so they gave me another one after spending an hour trying to get into the back of it. Now it is broken and i have lost my receipt, i will probably have to go to hughes and kettner. Watch this space..

I have been playing a mere 3 years, but as i am at a music college, my needs are changing monthly. I would only recommend this amp to someone who will use it as a warm up/pissing around amp, even then, you can get better ones. My advice would be to get a small 10 watt valve amp like an Epiphone Valve special or a small Marshall (!) which would be less and drive it hard. Of course the best option if you have a cabinet is the Orange Tiny Terror.
If it were stolen, i wouldn't waste police time tracking it down, because it would probably break again and then i would leave it out to be stolen, or sell the parts.
I love the clean channel. Thats why i bought it.
Don't buy unless you really like it

This amp produce fantastic clean sound with Stratocaster. The sound was near Fender Twin Reverb.
Overdrive channel are fantastic for solid state amp.But this amp never sound very good with a lot of distortion, even distortion pedal wil not help.
This amp was made for Fender clean and blues to clasic rock overdrive sound.
I own also H&K Blue edition 30 DFX.What a diference in sound.10 inch jensen speaker produce much better sound for overdrive channel ,but clean channel was not so good(deep as Fender) anymore.10 speaker produce much more midlle tone with a lot of punch. This is great on overdrive channel, on clean channel it is very good to for country sound.
But this is not all.
I connect to efect send from H&K blue edition to efect return on Peavey delta blues(Peavey Ultra 112 and H&K edition tube 20)I use only tube power amp and speaker from this amps.WHAT A SOUND!
Preamp on this amp was better then original preamps on all this amps.Overdrive channel was fantastic sensitive on tuch and react just like botique tube amps. Also clean are fantastic.
But still this am are not create for hi-gain music!

Just fine features! (first of all sorry for my english, not my native language!). Mine built on 2004-2005, not so sure.
2 channels, clean, then distorsion.
Independent volume for each channel, and well balanced, also a master volume to get all fitted!!!! Basic equalization (mids, highs & lows).
The distorsion channel features gain control, not quite versatile, but punchy!
Stock Reverb also included, not incredible but just fine. To get a real reverbed sound u need to really turn up the knob.
Celestion speaker mounted, it gives an extra punch.

:

The clean channel sounds very good, plenty of bass, it makes it powerfull (u can even use it as bass amp).
The distorsion its other story, very noisy, it's just a heavy metal distorsion, not very versatile if u want to play little overdriven or bluesy style. Very remarked rectifier sound, crunchier. With that amount of bass u can make the distorsion sound like a fuzz, funny indeed.
I play on a Strat, single coil DiMarzio pickups, & i expected a brighter sound when i bought the amp. Great sound for heavy metal distorsions, but the amp throws dark sound, unless u put mid & high knobs to 10, which makes just sliding ure fingers along the strings an unpleasant experience.

After a year gigging out sometimes, then on Christmas it broke down, unknown reasons, but it seemed to be a welding or something, the amp just stopped sounding.
Excepting that, the amp didnt't gave me any other problems, Hughes & Kettner makes amps as hard as rocks, ready to hold anything xD. Not my case, but that's what i think.

The repair i talked about was made under warranty, but everything was done throw the music store, so i didn't need to talk directly with the company/dealer.
It has 2 year warranty.

The thing is that i expected more from this amp, maybe because its not suitable for my style (classic rock, blues, pop-rock).
If i u're looking for a quite cheap amp, tough, punchy, and u're playing hard rock or heavy metal, it's your amp, but, if not, try another thing (maybe a marshall, vox, fender...)
In my country, Spain, it's not easy to find a wide variety of brands at reasonable price, so many times u've to take what u got, not what u want.

made around 2004, I play heavy metal, power metal, prog metal, etc... 2 channels, clean and lead, Uses footswitch, doesn't come with it. effects loop, headphone jack, the usual. Built in reverb. I wish it had tubes. I use this as my current main amp, but i won't later. 60w thats good for me. the clean channel mimics tube amps by breaking up at higher volumes.
Sound Quality

this amp has normal solid state distortion, it sucks. the lead channel is horrible, the Best thing about this amp are the reverb and the cleans. This amp has AMAZING cleans. In my final rig I will be using this amp for only cleans also. Its a great amp, the cleans rule, and the distortion sucks, like most solid state amps. Its good for a bit of classic rock distortion, but for higher gain stuff, no way.

I've had it for a year now, nothing bad happened, I took it apart and added a 1x12 cab right next to it(kinda making it a 2x12). it stillworks. its built pretty well, hughes and kettner made it so its hard to take it apart, i got through that.

They probably would've answered my question If i had worded it better, but i asked how to take the amp apart one time, to add an extension cab, the guy said, "the amp is built for 1 12 inch speaker", I know that, i want to add an extension cab! CAB!!! I don't know anything about a warranty, i don't abuse this amp enough to have to take it back, and solid states are pretty reliable

From the information on the back it looks like my amp was made in 2003. It is a 2 channel solid state amp, 60 watts, 1x12 inch speaker. The speaker is a special made "rockdriver junior". It is indeed a celestion speaker, but one they only make for H&K, not available for sale.
The amp has line in and out (with out cab sim). I ran the out to into a Behringer GI-100 (DI box with 4x12 cab sim). Sounded decent, but not the sparkle and life of hearing it out of the cab. Line in and out are also the effects loop.
It also has headphone jack and RCA input for playing with a CD. I used it for my POD XT Live. Which sounded pretty good this way. But I soon found it sounded even better either run in front of the amp as an effects board or directly to the PA. And yes I switched the output modes appropriately on the XT.
Pretty packed with features esprcially for the price. I do wish it had a jacked speaker so that you could either use the cab for another head or run the amp to a different cab. But, this was an easy enough modification with $5 in parts from Radio Shack.
This amp is plently loud for practice solo and with a band.
Where the amp really falls short is the quality of the cabinet. Dont get me wrong I dont think it will fall apart, but it could make this great amp spectacular by enhancing the sound that much more. The cabinet is MDF (glued fiber board). Fine, most bargain amps are these days. But I was really shocked to see the baffle was made of the same material! When I removed the baffle to do my speaker jack mod I found this out only because the baffle is at an odd angle and the screws holding it in are misaligned and actually coming through the back of the baffle.
I also could do without the Freddy Mercury jump suit fabric they have covering the front. Its complete with little sparklies. Also the knobs are a bit cheap feeling and tight and plasticy.

I play a Carvin DC127 - dual humbuckers with coil switching (turn one of the pick ups in the humbucker off). I also own a Line 6 Variax. I play blues and alternative. Both sound absolutley marvelous through this amp. I really like strats through this, but a humbucket a the neck on channel 2 can get shades of "Vox-yness".
Both channels are excellent. Hands down the best sounding solid state I have ever played. And I have owned some good ones - Peavey transtube and Fender Cyber Champ / Deluxe. BTW I really like that there is no DSP within the amp. Usually those are really the low point in combos. If I want DSP I will add it myself in the loop or in front.
The clean channel, wow, where do I start. It is full round, glassy, and shimmery. I love that you can crank the clean channel too. Turn up the clean channel volume and then put thre master volume to taste. Like a built in properly attentuated tube amp.
The dirty channel has a voice of its own, but not so distinct that you are like "what just happened" when you switch channels. the OD is creamy and articulate. Very much like the best of Fender and Vox melded.
Both channels take effects well. Choruses, modulations, and delays are great on the clean. I found I like ODs on the dirty channel best. I use my XT Live as a pedal board in front and screamers and the chandler tube driver sound excellent.

The amp has never broken down. Still going strong. Despite my mentioning that some of the materials are cheap, the amp itself is well put together. Everything on the board inside the amp was solid and well done.

I tried contacting Celestion regarding the Rockdriver Junior. I was thinking of replacing it, but what voicing would best match it? They said they could not discuss it with me, that I had to contact H&K to get the scoop. Until that time I had never heard of client / speaker priveledge. hehe... ehem
So I contact H&K. The respond within the day and let me know that the speaker is comparable to the voicing of a V30. But that speaker would definitely be an upgrade and a good choice.
So a good experience, and I'm going to try the upgrade. Going to try it with the cheese ball cabinet it come with to start. Then maybe make the combo into a head and reuse the V30 in a better 2x12 cab.

I've been playing for about 13 years. As far as live play or amps go I also own the Epiphone valve Junior and POD XT Live.
Overall this amp has absolutley stellar tone and the design as far as the tone controls are quite excellent. I really would rather have them ask another $100 for this amp and get the cabinet right (at least the baffle) and give the knobs an upgrade. The blue glow is cool, but not at the expense of the rest.
If this were stolen I would absolutley buy it again. I would also buy a different cab to run it into. Even if you just use it as a head to drive a larger cab, it is worth twice the price.
My best guess is that this is a expertly conceived amplifier which was manufactured cheaply to get young players with an interest in classic tone hooked on the Hughes and Kettner brand.
However, all that being said. I got this thing from a Daddy's Junky Music store used with a 2 year warranty (which I may have voided with my little mods) for less than $200. New these things are going for $250 on Musicians Friend. To me if you are looking for a 50 - 100 watt 1x12 and play blues, rock, this should be high on your list. To me it was a "no brainer".

Well let me start off by saying that this amp is by far the best WINNER over any transistor amp on the market. This amp blows everything else out of the water!!!! This amp has more than enough features on it for a small amp. You can even hook it up to an external speaker for more power! Amazing as simple as that!
Also this amp LOOKS THE BUSINESS on stage or anywhere, its blue glow is soo inviting it makes you want to play it even more!!

Well this is where this amp excels above everything else. I have been playing since I have been about 10 and am now 20 and wow the tone on this amp is just incredible. I currently play a Gibson Les Paul and a Handbuilt Washburn with EVO pickups through it. I play everything from Jazz to Metal & MAN this amp sings at every class.
The clean channel is amazing, it sounds better than a Fender Twin Reverb and the Gain channel is just WOW. I cant believe how big the tone is for such a heavy channel. You really can get every single Genre out of this amp. The gain is AMAZING. Also another point that excels about this amp is the Clean crunches when you play it loud which is Unheard of in a Transistor amp, you should be only be able 2 have this sound in a Valve amp!!!
I even gigged in a 300 venue with this to test it and my friend was playing a full marshall stack and my tone just BLEW HIS out the window it really did. I had this amp on 10 as well and it just keeps gettin better the more you CRANK the volume WOW. This amp is truly a musical masterpiece. It has ORGASMIC TONE THAT OTHER AMPS ONLY CAN DREAM OF PLAYING!!!!

Its not $%^&, its just not that good either...
I use a highly moddified Vintage VP6 guitar, I use a dunlop crybaby infront of the amp and Ive got an MXR phase 90 and a digitech digidelay both in the FX loop. I'm usin the amps overdrive. clean is alright, nothing special. Overdrive is ok, could be better - the sustain isnt smooth. The amp is fairly quiet, sounds better at low volumes.
