Hughes & Kettner Edition Surf 112 Combo

i don't know the year in which this amp was made, i bought brand new in '98 i play mostly indie and lo-fi with an epiphone les paul standard model.The look is cool, green-water painted, knobs on the top like vintage style. It has 2 channels: clean and overdrive, no fx loop, i never use overdrive 'cause it sucks. I play in a indie rock band and this amp sucks, it has 45 solid state watts and i gigged with it few times. It has to be miked cause most of time you can't hear yourself in open spaces without monitors, it is mostly a practice amp so i'm saving money to buy myself a 100W fender twin-amp.

as i said i play with an epiphone les paul standard with stock pick-ups that i wish to change in gibson '59s or seymour duncan. The amp is not noisy but the sound is awful with EVERY GUITAR. The tone and the personal timbre of your guitar is not reproduced by this amp, it's like your playing trough a digital processor:the sound is totally changed. The tone controls Low-medium-high don't do theyre job, when you twist them almost nothing happens. The only cool thing of this amp is that it has a master volume and another volume per channel, so if you set the clean channel volume at 10 this amp has a circuit that emulates the valve overdrive and this isn't too bad. The distorted channel (i never use) doesn't have harmonics at all, so when you play with another guy who has a distortion, you will disappear.

i couldn't spend lots money for equipment until now so i had only this amp and it has broken only one time, it was a transistor that have been changed. Anyway it died only that time.

warranty was one year, but i didn't use that cause it died later.

iive been flaying for 6 years and now that i can afford a more powerful and reliable amp i will not wait to buy a new one, i will sell this to take some stomp boxes. If it were stolen i would complain the thief because this amp really sucks!
