20 watt tube amp w/ foot-switchable overdrive channel, tone controls, effects loop - all are nice. The effects loop is remarkably transparent and effective; I just run a Bad Monkey booster into the input and sometimes a Zoom G1 through the loop. 20 watts is perfect for me, we mic the thing through the PA, but it's loud enough to hold it's own against the drums, 4 monitors, bass, keys etc. I run the clean channel at 6/7 and the boost channel at 2/3 (volumes are separate so you can balance output for footswitching).

Sound Quality : 9
"tone-a-liscous" - this amp sings, growls, wails, whatever I need, I get. I play a worked over fender with just a Bad Monkey booster for a little compression/ sustain and added edge. The el84's are chimey and delicious - not the Marshall crunch or the Fender thing, but with enough of each to make me happy. If you crank the gain way up you could peel the paint off the wall and have the neighbors calling the cops. I like it for it's crisp musical sustain, and a growly lower end. Higher gain settings lose some string to string clarity but so what.

Reliability : 10
bought it off ebay, so it's been shipped, and it's now been hauled around for a year with no problems.

no need. I dropped the chassis and put in fresh tubes but it sounds the same... waste of money that was.

Overall Rating : 10
I started playing electric guitar when I was 16 and I'm 50 now. I have kids and a mortgage so I needed an affordable amp that could generate real tone and I was happily surprised by this one and I get continuous compliments for my sound. I have owned a 50w Marshall head I bought used in '78, a 30 marshall combo ( classic overdrive but limited options musically), a fender bassman, peavey, etc., but I have the most fun with this amp - think Steely Dan lead tones. If I had thousands to spend I am sure I could find a boutique amp that beats it but for the money it has been awesome.

I bought this amp used because I liked the sound of the new one so much. My used one had a busted cabinet that I had to fix. The cabinet is partical board and somewhat cheaply assembled, but I repaired it with some spruce 1x4s and screws and wood glue. Very solid now. I found the channels to be great, but I have had to replace the power tubes twice.

Sound Quality : 10
When I first received it, it sounded good. After replacing both the power and the preamp tubes, with some Sovtek 12AX7's and Groove-Tubes EL-84 6's, it sounds absolutely fabulous both clean and overdrive.

Reliability : 5
With the Class A circuit in this thing, I have had to replace the power tubes twice. My local tube guru said I didn't need to replace the preamp tubes, but the sovtek replacements for the original 12AX7's really helped it out. I have had a problem with microphonics at higher volumes but it is probably because I picked somewhat cheaper tubes.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have not had to deal with this. I have done all of my own repairs.

Overall Rating : 7
I have had this amp for over a year and gigged with it. It is great.

Features already covered below. I bought it on the spur of the moment, as I saw an ad for it at a good price in our local Ottawa Musician site, and I had been thinking of replacing my Peavey Classic 30 which I had been using as a back-up amp for my main pair of Rivera Clubsters.

Features-wise I would have liked to see switchable Reverb and a stand-by switch, but otherwise the simpler the better as far as I`m concerned, and this am has just about everything a common-garden variety occasionall gigging musician would ever need.

Sound Quality : 10
I have a USA Tele, USA Texas Special Fat Strat, LP Classic, and a Rickenbacker 370-12 string. I play Classic Rock from the 60s/70s/80s mostly. The 3 six-strings all sound stupendous through this amp, but my acid test for any amp is how the Rick comes through on the clean channel - finicky as Ricks can be. I found the Rick sounds almost as good through this as it does through my Riveras (The Peavey Classic 30 sucked treble out of the tone, and I just gave up on it eventually.

Reliability : 8
Well, it is my back-up. No breakdowns yet & I`m completely satisfied. You`d have to bring a power drill with you to unscrew the back to get at the chassis to do a quick tube-change, so I wouldn`t use it without a back-up.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with them.

Overall Rating : 10
Like many others of my generation I`ve been playing since 8:00 pm (EST), on February 9, 1964, and I would rank this amp as among the best I`ve owned. I`ve A-B`d it with my Rivera Clubsters and it holds its own very well, but then you`d have to go to something a lot more expensive to really give those smoke-ass Riveras a credible run for the money. At the price I paid, it`s outstanding value. I`ve owned a `65 Deluxe reissue and a Hot Rod Deluxe previously. It`s got better tone but is not nearly as loud as the Hot Rod Deluxe, and I would rank the clean channel right up there with the `65 Deluxe reissue. I don`t care about the dirt channel - that`s why God, in her infinite wisdom, made Mike Fuller and gave him the inspiration to come up with the OCD.

I play 70's and 80's rock. This amp is just what I was looking for, simple two channel all balls tube amp. Almost complete closed back for great bottom end. Good control with low/mid/high controls also reverb control, but I replaced the reverb with a real tank. A for sure safe bet as a great practicing or small gig amp.

Sound Quality : 10
Sounded great out of the box, but replaced tubes with groove tubes, and installed vintage 30. After the switch of tubes and speaker the amp is a monster. Now loud enough for mid sized gigs. Sound quality increased a ton.

Reliability : 9
Dependable amp with great german design. No problems yet, if stolen would search the world for a new one.

Customer Support : 8
Called the company a few times with questions answered and no problems. great tech.

Overall Rating : 10
Been in music for 12 years, this is a great amp for most all players. I play a dean v I customized with duncan pickups and a samick floyd rose guitar same pickups. I use a pedal board with boss chours and delay, a mxr wylde overdrive, rocktron hush pedal, morley wah, and boss ds-1 moded by robert keeley. With this gear I can get any sound out, from kiss to steve vai, to ozzy. This amp completes my tone search. Hope you have as good of luck as I had with this amp.

Twin channel 2004 valve amp, with effects loop, fished in a nice deep brown case. This amp will only be loud enough for smallish gigs and best with a quiet drummer in your band. If you want a amp with shimmering cleans and classic 70,s Drive this will do the job nicely. Don,t expect the earth to move orbe able to Megadeath it, but if you want a good qaulity small gig/recorded sound and like the tones on "Nearly died in your arms tonight2 you will die for this one too! The reproduction is good, as in a Duotone. The amp is easy to carry. Don,t buy this amp if your a Jazzer, or Bluesman, buy it if you play pop/funk/studio fills!

Sound Quality : 9
I used the amp with a Strat.

Reliability : 9
Hughes and Kettner have a good reputation like most German built stuff.

Customer Support : 9
I,ve not needed to use customer support with either of the 2 H&K amps I,ve owned.

Overall Rating : 10
I,ve been playing years in a lot of styles. This is an amp I would carry to most small gigs. I rock it with a Fulltone pedal if required.I would consider another one if it were stolen as it,s a well priced all valve value pack, and I dislike transistor amps, thats why I purchased this. ( And it doesn,t sound to boxey for a 1x12)

2 channel all valve combo rated at 20w (2xEL84 output). It's not quite as loud as my Vox AC-15 but that could be the speaker - it's a pretty good sounding Celestion but with a sensitivity of 96dB it's not quite as loud as a Vox Bulldog or Celestion Greenback. In any case, it's plenty loud enough for small gigs.
It has a series effects loop and footswitch jack for channel switching (footswitch not standard). It came standard with Ruby valves (EL84 & ECC83). Reverb is not valve but is subtle and very usable. External speaker jack that does NOT cut the built in speaker.
No stand-by switch.

Sound Quality : 9
I use this amp at gigs to run colouring effects like delay, chorus, rotary speaker etc. Signal path is usually PRS Custom 22 >CryBaby >G2D Custom Overdrive or Ulbrick 12Axe > Ulbrick Megalodon (class A signal boost for solos) >Vox AC15 >line out to Boss VF-1 >into effects return on the Edition Tube. It is also my backup amp for the Vox, and I have tested it this way at rehearsal; it does a great job.

I really like the clean channel. It's clean up to just over half volume then breaks up like any GOOD EL84 combo. In my opinion this channel alone would be enough for most blues players. AT full volume it gets pretty dirty - great for early 70's rock.

The 'red' (lead) channel is not why I bought this amp, and I don't have much use for it. It is tuned quite well though - somewhere between modern Marshall (JCM 2000) and Mesa. It's not as fizzy as the new Marshalls and I'm sure it would suit many rock players.

Reliability : 8
I've only had it two weeks, but I've gigged with it and taken it apart. It seems well made and very robust. Valve sockets are PCB mounted but look like ceramic (if they are, well done H&K!).

Customer Support : 9
I emailed H&K with a spec question and they responded within days. Try that with Fender or Marshall!

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing for 25 years and owned many amps - Marshall, Peavey, Vox, Framus. This little combo is exactly what I need - a great sounding amp for my 2 amp rig, and a great backup for the Vox. It's also light weight and small (hey, I'm getting old, what can I say?). I searched a while to find the right features in a small mid-priced combo and only found them in the Edition Tube. If it were stolen I would buy another (if I could find one - they stopped making them about 2 years ago).

German made 112" combo. El-84 x 2/12ax7 2 chn combo. Shared Eq & Reverb. Made 2001, now discountinued ? Great little amp made for recording, small gigs & playing in your living room. As Recording amp & a Live amp this one is supurb, a tad to loud for your average practice amp. As most tube amps this one springs to life pushed a bit.

Sound Quality : 10
Great with most of the guitars & Fx units i got. The chain goes like this Gibson Les Paul Standard 1996 w/Duncan 59's and a Fender Telecaster Thinline 1998 USA (ocasionally i pull out my Ibanez Rg-460 w/Di Marzio Humbucker from Hell & Tone Zone to go whammy crazy and shred-o-matic with).
Fx- Line 6 Delay Modeler, Budda Bud-wha, Bixonic Expandora, Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive & Tc Chourus.
Playing and style wise im a regular geezer, Rock oriented still trying to achive greater chops (Trying to break the blues box!!) I like i clean transparent tone and an overdriven with enough grith to have sustaining leads and chrunchy power cords. Not to much gain but something in between. My influences are Paul Gilbert, Ritchie Kotzen & Shawn Lane (R.I.P)This amp is capeable of a huge array of tones from clean fenderish to marshall-y british one's. Its a very warm and blusey amp, but capeable of some serius grith. Not the Satan-in-yer-livingroom-Nu-metalish middy tone, but everything in between. The most impressive sound of this amp is the "german" sound (Somewhere in between the britsh Marshall-y & american Boogie sound)witch this amp produces. Kind of fenderish shimmer and clarity combined with marshall grith and square-ness combined with boogie sustain. This amp is extremly quit, specially A/B'ed with a Marshall. The clean channel breaks nicly up at max volume just like an old fender amp, and the gain channel gets an extra beef at the same volumes. Its loud enough to compeet with a noisy drummer with parkinson and a noisy god of thunder bass slapper. And quiet enough for studio recording with an over sensetive producer.

Reliability : No Opinion
havent broken down yet, even after hours of full throttle playing

A positive thing about this little combo the controlls actually work! as compared to other small "good" amps from Marshall Studio 15's to Fender Blues Juniors etc (Ive got both of these amps and a 70's silverface champ)Ive been playing for 20 years and this is one of the best cost effective amps ive tried. Im going to retire my Marshall Studio 15'(Probably sell it to a dork who belives the 500 made myth ! through e-bay)This is a little pice of blusey hard rocking Magic. This is a FABULOUS LITTLE AMP !!! If itas getting stolen or lost i would get a new one pronto! 'Cause this amp is made for playing. Compared to my MarshallStudio 15' Its like comparing a Mini Morris to a BMW , Compared to my Fender'70 Champ its like comparing sour lemon juice to fine german white wine . This is a winner

2 channels, 20 watts RMS, class A/B, full tube (2 * 12AX7 in the preamp and 2 * EL84 in the power section), 12 inch Celestion Rock Driver Junior speaker, high-gain, almost complete closed back, channels share EQ (bass, mid, treble), clean channel has volume, and gain channel has gain and master controls. Very simple - just what I wanted! Middle and treble are linked, so when you lower the mids, the highs raise and vice versa. It also has reverb, which is in my opinion very good.

Don't know when it was made (1999-2000 I guess), but I know that it's discontinued now, so I guess that it's a bit hard-to-get (it is!!). This amp is enough versatile for me and I play mostly metal, rock, hard-rock, some blues and so on..It has two channels and it has channel switching via a footswitch which I also got with it, though it's not the original H&K footswitch, but it does the job well. It also has an effects loop, and the ability to connect it with a external speaker. Only wish it had separate EQ for each channel, everything else is just what I wanted. Looks vintage, sounds both modern and vintage.

Sound Quality : 10
After extensive research before buying I decided that this amp with its features suits me perfectly, but I still had to hear it and make sure that it has "the tone". And when I plugged into it, I immediatelly knew that I want it.

The sound on this amp is the best sound I have ever heard! It even sounds awesome at bedroom levels, and that's why I wanted a "small" tube combo, cause bigger tube amps need to be turned up a lot to sound good, and that's not really suitable for playing in the house. But this amp achieves excellent tone even when played at low levels - great clean channel, and the best dirty channel I've heard! The sound has been found! I use this little bastard with a Gibson SG Special and they match perfectly! Now I have what I've always wanted - a good hard-tail bridge guitar with humbuckers and an awesome 2ch full-tube, high gain combo.

I haven't heard a Twin reverb but the clean channel on this amp is also very good to my ears, much better than on my previous amp (Roland cube chorus)...I didn't expect it to sound this good 'cause I was mainly looking for a good dirty channel, but the clean is also very very good even with my Gibson, and I could only guess what it sounds like on a good single-coil guitar...

The dirty channel is (like I said) excellent. From crunchy blues, drivey (I just made that word up) JCM800 sound, smooth Santana lead and piercing shredding lead sound to ultimate hard-rock/heavy metal riff crunch - absolutely and totally perfect. Very warm and bassy (in a good way) due to it's almost closed back. It's also cool to control the amount of gain with the volume on your guitar and get the sweetest crunch...it's not noisy at all! I absolutelly love how this amp sounds.

Don't let the 20 watts fool you - this amp is very loud, much louder than my previous 60 watt solid-state combo...Haven't tried it yet in a band situation but I'm sure that it will handle it very good...The other day I was alone at home and I decided to see how loud is it - I managed to put the master volume on lead channel on 2,5 (out of 10), and it was too loud to be in the house...the house was rocking!

Reliability : No Opinion
Well, haven't tried it yet live but when I do, I will probably use it without a backup (I don't have one!), and hope that it does it well...
I only had problem one tiny with it - I purchased it used and the guy who sold it to me didn't give me the original power cord, but he gave me a computer power cord with it which was not working properly. After playing it for about 10-15 minutes, the amp started to crackle really loud, and at first I thought that the problem were the tubes, but after replacing the power cord with a new one (also computer power cord - it's the same) the problem disapperared.

Customer Support : No Opinion
haven't contacted them yet!

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for about 7-8 years, and I also own a Gibson SG Special which couples with this amp perfectly. I think that this is the perfect amp for me so if it got stolen or something (hope not) I would try to get this one again...I love absolutely everything about it, it's perfect! No more solid state amps, multi effect units....:)
I made about 550 km just to get, and it was worth every meter!
And at the last (but not he least), I would like to thank Joe, Eric and especially Anselm whose reviews are also on this page and who were all extremely helpful when I contacted them about this amp.
And thank you, Hughes and Kettner!

Hail Rush the greatest band on the planet ! But is still love good old dirty blues. Theres nothing getting down mean and dirty an my PRS McCarty. German made amp (2003). Bougth i brand new for studio work & living room playing. Cool retro look. 2 chanels (switchable), serial effect loop, 20W Tube amp (2 X 12ax7 in the preamp, and 2 X El84 in power).
output for ext Speaker. Shared eq, actually well balanced for an amp at this price. Guitars used Gibson Les Paul Standard (Stock !), Fender US Telecaster (With Rio Grande tallboy Pickups )& K-Yairi Acoustic !! Actually loud enough for any use exept playing LARGE shows. Sounds good at low volumes ,but really comes to live when pushed.

Sound Quality : 10
Im kinda an old fella.. Been playing since the late seventies. My style is reflected in my age. I kinda grew up on blues and old school hardrock (Purple Zepplin Sabbath Heep etc etc) But im capable of both some lush jazz and some twangy country styles. This amp is able to produce the sounds im after both clean and cruchy. I use it with some stompboxes (Boss Super Overdrive, Boss Chorus Dunlop Rotovibe & Dunlop Cry baby.... For you nit-pickers !! Its the same Pedals as The reverend Zakk Wylde uses ... But,no punters ive used this set up since the mid eigthies so im not a copy-cat) I usally hook this amp to my Marshall Jcm-800 1960 Cab, for that extra 412 "woof", and its sounds killer ! (My original Marshall jcm-800 2203 Top is way to loud for normal use its ear defening with the volume set at 2 !!) Sound wise this amp sounds british. Kind-a vox-y & Marshall'ish in drive mode. But suprisingly jangly in clean mode. I could see the Matchless reference here. This is probably because of its class A modus. To my ears the amp sounds both clean and sharp, capable of its own sounds. Because of its shared Eq the sounds are a bit compromised but all-around good sounding! A reely killer amp in all ways. It actaully reminds me of the Peavy Classic 30 amp ( = Killer amp, Killer build qualty, Killer Price and Ultra killer Performance). Guys (and girls !) who are slagging this amp knows shit about gear! Soundwise you can use this amp for anything from hard rock/metal to blues to jazz to jangly pop ! This amp is quit too, my marshall jcm-800 2203 makes more noise unplugged than this amp makes volume !

Reliability : 10
The build quality are exelent ! German workmanship, flawless. Never broken down yet. But the back panel gets really hot after hours of use ... so beware!!! Built like a rock, and built to rock !

This is a gem. Once in while major companies build little wonders at a reasonable price with high quallity parts. And this is one them !! Others to mention are the Gibson Les Paul Studio Gem,The Fender Mexico Strats, The Peavy Classic 20 & 30 Combo's and Most of the Boss stomp boxes. Not to mention the Line 6 stompers and the exellent Pod units. Ive played for 25-30 years now and tries "whats to try" Ive played the PRS guitars, The Tom Andersons the Soldano's the matchless'es the Boutiqe gear But what really charms me the most are the plain regular cost effective gear. Not the cheap and unreliable korean crap. But amps like this little marvel. If i loose it , gets stolen etc i would get a new one fast and furious ! Keep it simple stupid !! The sounds are in your fingers !! If you sounds like crap, your playing are crap !
