20 watt tube amp w/ foot-switchable overdrive channel, tone controls, effects loop - all are nice. The effects loop is remarkably transparent and effective; I just run a Bad Monkey booster into the input and sometimes a Zoom G1 through the loop. 20 watts is perfect for me, we mic the thing through the PA, but it's loud enough to hold it's own against the drums, 4 monitors, bass, keys etc. I run the clean channel at 6/7 and the boost channel at 2/3 (volumes are separate so you can balance output for footswitching).

"tone-a-liscous" - this amp sings, growls, wails, whatever I need, I get. I play a worked over fender with just a Bad Monkey booster for a little compression/ sustain and added edge. The el84's are chimey and delicious - not the Marshall crunch or the Fender thing, but with enough of each to make me happy. If you crank the gain way up you could peel the paint off the wall and have the neighbors calling the cops. I like it for it's crisp musical sustain, and a growly lower end. Higher gain settings lose some string to string clarity but so what.

I started playing electric guitar when I was 16 and I'm 50 now. I have kids and a mortgage so I needed an affordable amp that could generate real tone and I was happily surprised by this one and I get continuous compliments for my sound. I have owned a 50w Marshall head I bought used in '78, a 30 marshall combo ( classic overdrive but limited options musically), a fender bassman, peavey, etc., but I have the most fun with this amp - think Steely Dan lead tones. If I had thousands to spend I am sure I could find a boutique amp that beats it but for the money it has been awesome.

I bought this amp used because I liked the sound of the new one so much. My used one had a busted cabinet that I had to fix. The cabinet is partical board and somewhat cheaply assembled, but I repaired it with some spruce 1x4s and screws and wood glue. Very solid now. I found the channels to be great, but I have had to replace the power tubes twice.

When I first received it, it sounded good. After replacing both the power and the preamp tubes, with some Sovtek 12AX7's and Groove-Tubes EL-84 6's, it sounds absolutely fabulous both clean and overdrive.

With the Class A circuit in this thing, I have had to replace the power tubes twice. My local tube guru said I didn't need to replace the preamp tubes, but the sovtek replacements for the original 12AX7's really helped it out. I have had a problem with microphonics at higher volumes but it is probably because I picked somewhat cheaper tubes.

Features already covered below. I bought it on the spur of the moment, as I saw an ad for it at a good price in our local Ottawa Musician site, and I had been thinking of replacing my Peavey Classic 30 which I had been using as a back-up amp for my main pair of Rivera Clubsters.
Features-wise I would have liked to see switchable Reverb and a stand-by switch, but otherwise the simpler the better as far as I`m concerned, and this am has just about everything a common-garden variety occasionall gigging musician would ever need.

I have a USA Tele, USA Texas Special Fat Strat, LP Classic, and a Rickenbacker 370-12 string. I play Classic Rock from the 60s/70s/80s mostly. The 3 six-strings all sound stupendous through this amp, but my acid test for any amp is how the Rick comes through on the clean channel - finicky as Ricks can be. I found the Rick sounds almost as good through this as it does through my Riveras (The Peavey Classic 30 sucked treble out of the tone, and I just gave up on it eventually.

Well, it is my back-up. No breakdowns yet & I`m completely satisfied. You`d have to bring a power drill with you to unscrew the back to get at the chassis to do a quick tube-change, so I wouldn`t use it without a back-up.

Like many others of my generation I`ve been playing since 8:00 pm (EST), on February 9, 1964, and I would rank this amp as among the best I`ve owned. I`ve A-B`d it with my Rivera Clubsters and it holds its own very well, but then you`d have to go to something a lot more expensive to really give those smoke-ass Riveras a credible run for the money. At the price I paid, it`s outstanding value. I`ve owned a `65 Deluxe reissue and a Hot Rod Deluxe previously. It`s got better tone but is not nearly as loud as the Hot Rod Deluxe, and I would rank the clean channel right up there with the `65 Deluxe reissue. I don`t care about the dirt channel - that`s why God, in her infinite wisdom, made Mike Fuller and gave him the inspiration to come up with the OCD.

I play 70's and 80's rock. This amp is just what I was looking for, simple two channel all balls tube amp. Almost complete closed back for great bottom end. Good control with low/mid/high controls also reverb control, but I replaced the reverb with a real tank. A for sure safe bet as a great practicing or small gig amp.

Sounded great out of the box, but replaced tubes with groove tubes, and installed vintage 30. After the switch of tubes and speaker the amp is a monster. Now loud enough for mid sized gigs. Sound quality increased a ton.

Been in music for 12 years, this is a great amp for most all players. I play a dean v I customized with duncan pickups and a samick floyd rose guitar same pickups. I use a pedal board with boss chours and delay, a mxr wylde overdrive, rocktron hush pedal, morley wah, and boss ds-1 moded by robert keeley. With this gear I can get any sound out, from kiss to steve vai, to ozzy. This amp completes my tone search. Hope you have as good of luck as I had with this amp.

Twin channel 2004 valve amp, with effects loop, fished in a nice deep brown case. This amp will only be loud enough for smallish gigs and best with a quiet drummer in your band. If you want a amp with shimmering cleans and classic 70,s Drive this will do the job nicely. Don,t expect the earth to move orbe able to Megadeath it, but if you want a good qaulity small gig/recorded sound and like the tones on "Nearly died in your arms tonight2 you will die for this one too! The reproduction is good, as in a Duotone. The amp is easy to carry. Don,t buy this amp if your a Jazzer, or Bluesman, buy it if you play pop/funk/studio fills!

I rock it with a Fulltone pedal if required.I would consider another one if it were stolen as it,s a well priced all valve value pack, and I dislike transistor amps, thats why I purchased this. ( And it doesn,t sound to boxey for a 1x12)

2 channel all valve combo rated at 20w (2xEL84 output). It's not quite as loud as my Vox AC-15 but that could be the speaker - it's a pretty good sounding Celestion but with a sensitivity of 96dB it's not quite as loud as a Vox Bulldog or Celestion Greenback. In any case, it's plenty loud enough for small gigs.
It has a series effects loop and footswitch jack for channel switching (footswitch not standard). It came standard with Ruby valves (EL84 & ECC83). Reverb is not valve but is subtle and very usable. External speaker jack that does NOT cut the built in speaker.
No stand-by switch.

I use this amp at gigs to run colouring effects like delay, chorus, rotary speaker etc. Signal path is usually PRS Custom 22 >CryBaby >G2D Custom Overdrive or Ulbrick 12Axe > Ulbrick Megalodon (class A signal boost for solos) >Vox AC15 >line out to Boss VF-1 >into effects return on the Edition Tube. It is also my backup amp for the Vox, and I have tested it this way at rehearsal; it does a great job.
I really like the clean channel. It's clean up to just over half volume then breaks up like any GOOD EL84 combo. In my opinion this channel alone would be enough for most blues players. AT full volume it gets pretty dirty - great for early 70's rock.
The 'red' (lead) channel is not why I bought this amp, and I don't have much use for it. It is tuned quite well though - somewhere between modern Marshall (JCM 2000) and Mesa. It's not as fizzy as the new Marshalls and I'm sure it would suit many rock players.

I've been playing for 25 years and owned many amps - Marshall, Peavey, Vox, Framus. This little combo is exactly what I need - a great sounding amp for my 2 amp rig, and a great backup for the Vox. It's also light weight and small (hey, I'm getting old, what can I say?). I searched a while to find the right features in a small mid-priced combo and only found them in the Edition Tube. If it were stolen I would buy another (if I could find one - they stopped making them about 2 years ago).

As Recording amp & a Live amp this one is supurb, a tad to loud for your average practice amp. As most tube amps this one springs to life pushed a bit.

Great with most of the guitars & Fx units i got. The chain goes like this Gibson Les Paul Standard 1996 w/Duncan 59's and a Fender Telecaster Thinline 1998 USA (ocasionally i pull out my Ibanez Rg-460 w/Di Marzio Humbucker from Hell & Tone Zone to go whammy crazy and shred-o-matic with).
Fx- Line 6 Delay Modeler, Budda Bud-wha, Bixonic Expandora, Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive & Tc Chourus.
Playing and style wise im a regular geezer, Rock oriented still trying to achive greater chops (Trying to break the blues box!!) I like i clean transparent tone and an overdriven with enough grith to have sustaining leads and chrunchy power cords. Not to much gain but something in between. My influences are Paul Gilbert, Ritchie Kotzen & Shawn Lane (R.I.P)This amp is capeable of a huge array of tones from clean fenderish to marshall-y british one's. Its a very warm and blusey amp, but capeable of some serius grith. Not the Satan-in-yer-livingroom-Nu-metalish middy tone, but everything in between. The most impressive sound of this amp is the "german" sound (Somewhere in between the britsh Marshall-y & american Boogie sound)witch this amp produces. Kind of fenderish shimmer and clarity combined with marshall grith and square-ness combined with boogie sustain. This amp is extremly quit, specially A/B'ed with a Marshall. The clean channel breaks nicly up at max volume just like an old fender amp, and the gain channel gets an extra beef at the same volumes. Its loud enough to compeet with a noisy drummer with parkinson and a noisy god of thunder bass slapper. And quiet enough for studio recording with an over sensetive producer.

A positive thing about this little combo the controlls actually work! as compared to other small "good" amps from Marshall Studio 15's to Fender Blues Juniors etc (Ive got both of these amps and a 70's silverface champ)Ive been playing for 20 years and this is one of the best cost effective amps ive tried. Im going to retire my Marshall Studio 15'(Probably sell it to a dork who belives the 500 made myth ! through e-bay)This is a little pice of blusey hard rocking Magic. This is a FABULOUS LITTLE AMP !!! If itas getting stolen or lost i would get a new one pronto! 'Cause this amp is made for playing. Compared to my MarshallStudio 15' Its like comparing a Mini Morris to a BMW , Compared to my Fender'70 Champ its like comparing sour lemon juice to fine german white wine . This is a winner

2 channels, 20 watts RMS, class A/B, full tube (2 * 12AX7 in the preamp and 2 * EL84 in the power section), 12 inch Celestion Rock Driver Junior speaker, high-gain, almost complete closed back, channels share EQ (bass, mid, treble), clean channel has volume, and gain channel has gain and master controls. Very simple - just what I wanted! Middle and treble are linked, so when you lower the mids, the highs raise and vice versa. It also has reverb, which is in my opinion very good.
Don't know when it was made (1999-2000 I guess), but I know that it's discontinued now, so I guess that it's a bit hard-to-get (it is!!). This amp is enough versatile for me and I play mostly metal, rock, hard-rock, some blues and so on..It has two channels and it has channel switching via a footswitch which I also got with it, though it's not the original H&K footswitch, but it does the job well. It also has an effects loop, and the ability to connect it with a external speaker. Only wish it had separate EQ for each channel, everything else is just what I wanted. Looks vintage, sounds both modern and vintage.

After extensive research before buying I decided that this amp with its features suits me perfectly, but I still had to hear it and make sure that it has "the tone". And when I plugged into it, I immediatelly knew that I want it.
The sound on this amp is the best sound I have ever heard! It even sounds awesome at bedroom levels, and that's why I wanted a "small" tube combo, cause bigger tube amps need to be turned up a lot to sound good, and that's not really suitable for playing in the house. But this amp achieves excellent tone even when played at low levels - great clean channel, and the best dirty channel I've heard! The sound has been found! I use this little bastard with a Gibson SG Special and they match perfectly! Now I have what I've always wanted - a good hard-tail bridge guitar with humbuckers and an awesome 2ch full-tube, high gain combo.
I haven't heard a Twin reverb but the clean channel on this amp is also very good to my ears, much better than on my previous amp (Roland cube chorus)...I didn't expect it to sound this good 'cause I was mainly looking for a good dirty channel, but the clean is also very very good even with my Gibson, and I could only guess what it sounds like on a good single-coil guitar...
The dirty channel is (like I said) excellent. From crunchy blues, drivey (I just made that word up) JCM800 sound, smooth Santana lead and piercing shredding lead sound to ultimate hard-rock/heavy metal riff crunch - absolutely and totally perfect. Very warm and bassy (in a good way) due to it's almost closed back. It's also cool to control the amount of gain with the volume on your guitar and get the sweetest crunch...it's not noisy at all! I absolutelly love how this amp sounds.
Don't let the 20 watts fool you - this amp is very loud, much louder than my previous 60 watt solid-state combo...Haven't tried it yet in a band situation but I'm sure that it will handle it very good...The other day I was alone at home and I decided to see how loud is it - I managed to put the master volume on lead channel on 2,5 (out of 10), and it was too loud to be in the house...the house was rocking!

Well, haven't tried it yet live but when I do, I will probably use it without a backup (I don't have one!), and hope that it does it well...
I only had problem one tiny with it - I purchased it used and the guy who sold it to me didn't give me the original power cord, but he gave me a computer power cord with it which was not working properly. After playing it for about 10-15 minutes, the amp started to crackle really loud, and at first I thought that the problem were the tubes, but after replacing the power cord with a new one (also computer power cord - it's the same) the problem disapperared.

I think that this is the perfect amp for me so if it got stolen or something (hope not) I would try to get this one again...I love absolutely everything about it, it's perfect! No more solid state amps, multi effect units....:)
I made about 550 km just to get, and it was worth every meter!
And at the last (but not he least), I would like to thank Joe, Eric and especially Anselm whose reviews are also on this page and who were all extremely helpful when I contacted them about this amp.
And thank you, Hughes and Kettner!

Im kinda an old fella.. Been playing since the late seventies. My style is reflected in my age. I kinda grew up on blues and old school hardrock (Purple Zepplin Sabbath Heep etc etc) But im capable of both some lush jazz and some twangy country styles. This amp is able to produce the sounds im after both clean and cruchy. I use it with some stompboxes (Boss Super Overdrive, Boss Chorus Dunlop Rotovibe & Dunlop Cry baby.... For you nit-pickers !! Its the same Pedals as The reverend Zakk Wylde uses ... But,no punters ive used this set up since the mid eigthies so im not a copy-cat) I usally hook this amp to my Marshall Jcm-800 1960 Cab, for that extra 412 "woof", and its sounds killer ! (My original Marshall jcm-800 2203 Top is way to loud for normal use its ear defening with the volume set at 2 !!) Sound wise this amp sounds british. Kind-a vox-y & Marshall'ish in drive mode. But suprisingly jangly in clean mode. I could see the Matchless reference here. This is probably because of its class A modus. To my ears the amp sounds both clean and sharp, capable of its own sounds. Because of its shared Eq the sounds are a bit compromised but all-around good sounding! A reely killer amp in all ways. It actaully reminds me of the Peavy Classic 30 amp ( = Killer amp, Killer build qualty, Killer Price and Ultra killer Performance). Guys (and girls !) who are slagging this amp knows shit about gear! Soundwise you can use this amp for anything from hard rock/metal to blues to jazz to jangly pop ! This amp is quit too, my marshall jcm-800 2203 makes more noise unplugged than this amp makes volume !

Not to mention the Line 6 stompers and the exellent Pod units. Ive played for 25-30 years now and tries "whats to try" Ive played the PRS guitars, The Tom Andersons the Soldano's the matchless'es the Boutiqe gear But what really charms me the most are the plain regular cost effective gear. Guitars used for this amp. Les Paul Standard, A late sixties strat, a standard US Strat, A mex Strat And an SG Standard. Spme with stock and some with EMG Pickups. its suits nearly all styles expecpt Hardcore Nu-Metal ! But i guess Nu-Metallers dont ant an amp that looks like an old radio. Its not more noisy than other tube amps .. But way more quit than ....lets say a Marshall. Clean channel really springy and brigth.. but could be Eqed to a more lush Jazzy tone. Gain channel kind reminds me of my Budda Verbmaster on full blast--- combined with my Matchless Lightning 15'combo. The best sounds are with single coil guitars... My gibsons kind a sound a tad too muddy. a real winner in the sound department after some ligth tweaking !

2 chanels (switchable), serial effect loop, 20W Tube amp (2 X 12ax7 in the preamp, and 2 X El84 in power).
The coolest feature is the output for external speaker, i use it to hook this little beast to a 4X12 h&k cab.
I think it should have a standby switch, a mix control for the effect loop, and one EQ by chanel... This amp has exactly the wattage i needed for practice or gigs in clubs.

All my guitars have humbuckers: Ibanez AX320, Westone Terminator, Godin LGT, Epi G400... they all sound good with this amp.
Good clean chanel, and as expected with a 20W amp it breaks up before being very loud (about 12 O'clock on the volume). The Lead chanel is THE reason i got this amp. This is THE lead tone i was looking for, LOTS of gain available, and the voicing reminds me of bands like Accept, Ted Nudgent (after 2000), Scorpions... But if you add a bit of mids and gain, the amp can get a lot more "brutal" than this.
My usual settings are Trebble at 12 O'clock, mids at 9-10, and bass at 8-9 O'Clock, volume around 10 O'Clock on lead, and 2-3 O'Clock on clean (not clean anymore at this level ;-) ). Most of the time, the gain is at 12-3 O'clock... I don't use the clean chanel that much, for clean sounds at high volume i still have my H&K Tour Reverb.
I didn't find the amp particulary "noisy", considering the settings i use (gain+crancked).
So, certainly not a "jack of all trades", it does 2 things: Overdriven tones on the clean chanel (when cranked), in the vein of Bowies "Ziggy Stardust", to IMHO excellent high gain tones. This is what i was looking for in a small wattage tube amp, so i give it a 10 for tone.

I dont't if I can depend on it.
Pros: I've always been lucky with hugues & kettner: I've had a "tirthy" that's been abused for years without any problem, i still have a "Tour Reverb" (excellent amp), and a H&K cab. Seems well built to me.
Cons: I'm concerned too about the lack of ventilation on the amp... Must be pretty hot inside!!! Most little tube combos have a bad reputation when it comes to reliability...
My amp is under warranty for a year, so i'm not too upset. If it turns out that it's not very reliable, i'll just won't use it for gigs, but i have a good feeling i could depend on it.
I'm plannig using it with a ABY switch, so I'll have the Tour Reverb and the "Edition Tube" available on tap...

I've been playing for something like 20 years, but as a hobby only. I have a band, we do some shows, but that's about it. The other amps i have are a Fender "VibroChamp"(6W) and a H&K "Tour Reverb" (100W).
I think that if you're into the heavier kind rock'n roll, then before buying another amp in the "15-30W" category, you really should try this one. Hooked to a 4X12 cab, it becomes a little war machine!!! And don't be fooled by the low wattage, a well built 20W tube amp can get way louder than expected!!! I'll remove 2 point because of the lack of features.

Bought in August 2002. Got this amp ebayed, but as a new one from a store. It's an all tube amp with 2 x 12AX7 as preamp - tubes and 2 x EL84 as poweramp - tubes. 22 Watts. This amp got 2 channels which are switchable manually or with a footswitch. Built in a 12", special designed speaker. Sounds very good! Built in spring reverb, not switchable, but you can adjust rev - amount with a pot. Tone controls are bass - mid - treble. Bass is a little weak, but mid and treble work together very nice and interactive. Tone control is for both cannels. Volume for clean channel, gain and master vor dist cannel. This little amp is like a sound - chameleon. More info below! Serial effects loop an ext speaker jack on board. No headphon jack, no direct out. This baby is a - i call it - pure tube amp without any gimmicks. Two channel tone control would be perfect; the reason for my rating (9)

Well sound: it's like a chameleon. I use a Fender Mex Deluxe Strat, an EPI Nighthawk (very nice axe!!), an EPI ES335 Dot and an EPI Zephyr blues deluxe. This amp fits perfect to all my axes and syles I prefer to play (R&B, Blues, Rock and a little jazzy things). From sweetest clean over chrunchy sounds (very versatile!!!) up to hi gain distortion, this amp can give you what you want. Sounds awesome with a 4 x 12" box!! Dammned loud for only 22W. Gets a little bit noisy at higher volumes (clean and dist channel). When you prefer to tweak distortion with the vol pot of your axe: this amp is made for you. Works perfectly. I mailed to H&K, cause I wanted to know, what kind of power - amplification is used in this amp. Answer: Class A/B. One minus: factory tubes (RUBY tubes) were crap. Rattling inside the tubes, when striking the A - string. Changed against electro harmonix (pre) and sovtek (pwr). Problem solved. I was a little bit dissapointed, when I saw the inside of the amp: Hardly any wires, nearly everything (even the tubes!!) mounted on an electronic plate. Poor!!

I'm playing for over 20 yrs and I had a lot of gear all over the time.
amps: acoustic mod. 164, H&K ATS 120 with 2 x 4 x 12" H&K speakers, H&K tube 50 combo, LINE6 Flextone II plus with ext. cab (actual band amp), Behringer GX110, Peavey backstage, Fender DELUXE 112, LINE6 Spider 112.
guitars: Fender Mex Deluxe Strat, EPI Nighthawk, EPI ES335 Dot, EPI Zephyr Blues Deluxe, Ibanez ARTIST AR300 and many, many more all over the time.
Effects: Cry Baby Wah, that's it
My opinion: The LINE6 Flex II Plus, the H&K edition tube and the acoustic 164 are the best amps I ever owned, resp. own until now. If this amp were stolen, I'd contact my local dealer and hook up another one. Compared it with BEHRINGER GX110 (my son's amp), Peavey RAGE158, several small Marshalls (even Valvestates) and a some Fenders. I decided, this one fits best for my needs because of: sound, very good experience with H&K, German brand (in the case of repairing!), look (very "vintage", I like this), very versatile in sounds

I bought this amp after extensive shopping with a very specific goal in mind - to buy an all-tube, high gain small combo amp purely for personal satisfaction. I currently play bass in local bands, but I still consider myself a guitar player 1st and foremost. I wanted a real screamer amp that I could play in the basement without scaring the kid (10 months old) and still get a great distortion. Compared to many amps, with Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and Peavey Classic 30 being the only amps truly comparable. While I checked out a Marshall TSL and Mesa Boogie Nomad 55, among other larger, (much) higher priced amps, when you're talking under $400, it's apples and oranges. The features are very basic; two channels, but no separate e.q. for each. Then again, I bought for sound, not frills. The simplicity makes it very easy to dial in the sounds you want.

Having sold a couple of guitars recently, I'm down to my my mid-'70s ES-355 and an Ibanez 12 string electric. When I compared my guitar and varous others (from the store) through the H-K and the Fender and Peavey, it really was no comparison. The clean channel is very nice and versatile. I was really surprised at how well it sounds, and having a couple of months to mess with it really has shown how great it is. I still have my '75 Fender Deluxe which was completely refurbished a few years ago, and that still sounds better for clean and crunchy; of course, the problem with the Fender is that to get the true Fender sound, you have to turn it up to at least 4, which is pretty f-ing loud. Last year I unloaded my Vox AC-30 for the same reason. The H-K, on the other hand, sounds great at very low volumes. Since it is only 20 watts, you have the flexibility. I've kept the Fender because I really love the clean and mostly clean sound, especially with the 12-string on single coil (very Beatles). The real reason for this amp, though, is the gain channel. This is where it earns it's keep. This thing will blister the paint at full gain, and you still get a great sound at a low volume. Frankly, 50% gain is still screaming, but very controllable. There is no way anyone can tell me there is another all-tube amp available in its class that can give you these sounds for anywhere close to this price. The amp is a steal.

No problems with the amp yet. One note - when I played the floor model at Chuck Levin's Washington (D.C.) Music Center, I noticed significant signal bleedthrough when the volume knobs were totally off. The store agreed to order me a brand new Edition still in the box from the factory, but when it arrived, it has the same symptom. I have never experienced this with any other tube amp, and it is not a problem, but be prepared.

No issues yet. I have no reason to believe they will be difficult to work with, given how easily the manufacturer agreed to the store's request to ship a new model to me after the bleed through affair. I was with the sales rep while he spoke to them on the phone, and he said H-K was one of the easier companies they deal with.

I have been playing in bands at various levels for 20+ years. Have always played progressive power pop guitar music (REM, U2 back in the 80's; the Jam and the Ramones and of course the Beatles remain my biggest influences). Since I don't play out anymore as a guitarist, I really have no need for anything bigger, although this amp would clearly be accepatble for small clubs. I should note that before buying this, I bought a Digitech Genesis 1 amp modeler, thinking that that would satisfy my craving for screaming lead tones. Sorry, but a real tube amp just can't be matched. This amp can NOT be beat at this price. The amp is all about sound, with no frills.

I have recently purchasedthe H&K Edition Tube to replace an older Marshall combo that turned out to be the most unreliable amp that I have ever owned. I was looking for a tube amp that was under 40 watts, had channel switching and was portable. The amp was to used by the singer/guitarist of a cover band that plays out a few times a month. The guitarist (me) uses a Fender HR Deluxe, depending on the situation, with a custom effects layout for gigging. The Edition Tube turned out to be a great purchase. It has all the features that I was looking for, however, the reverb could be a little bit deeper. H&K could have included a footswitch and a cover.

When I first plugged it in, I was a little bit skeptical, having read some of the reviews posted here, but I tried to keep an open mind and ear. I started with my Strat and this amp is truely made for a Strat. The fact that the mid and high pots work with each other, it is easy to find the tone you are looking for, especially clean. It is quite responsiveI was pleasantly surprised. The gain channel uses the same eq which is great in a cover band situation where you look for a little bit more consistency of sound. The gain can take you from a little grit to monster gain. Both channels are quite responsive to changes in volume levels and the point of overdrive on the clean channel is smooth and gradual. I also plugged in a 1975 Les Paul Standard, a Washburn solidbody and a DeArmond M75T - all of which still retained their own tones, not colored by the amp as so many other amps do, but the Strat was magic with it.

I have been gigging in coverbands since 1987, I am now 32 and also own a recording studio. I have gone through quite an array of amplifiers over the years, kept some, sold some. They include: '67 Fender Twin, '74 Fender Super Six, Marshall JCM800 w/ 1960A, Fender HR Deluxe, '64 & '67 Silvertone combos, Assorted Marshall combos, Matchless DC30, Assorted Crate combos, and a Peavey Reknown 400. I have to say that I am very partial to combos, overall. Fenders have always been a mainstay for me in terms of reliability and tone, but they have never been able to give me the kind of gain that the H&K is. It is a nice addition to the studio and sounds great live at gigs, it's just loud enough for small clubs and bars and for bigger venues, the P.A. does the work, our stage levels are at a tolerable level to begin with. I wish that it had a third channel and again, the reverb could be deeper, but for a tube combo at the price I paid, I feel I got a bargain. Time will tell about the reliability. I would buy another one, maybe for me to use at the gigs, too. I would definitely recommend this amp to anyone that is looking for a fat sounding, warm amp with lots of gain and "just enough" headroom. Find one and plug your guitar into it and hear for yourself.

2 channels with utilising one set of Bass/Treble and Middle. Reverb and the usual I/O jacks/loops. A headphone jack would have been a bonus, but I do miss having seperate eq's. Plus i've always been a fan of the standby switch..wish it had one. I mainly use this amp at home to just play around on, with the occasional jam with mates. 20W, and certinaly loud enough for what I need. My main criterea for getting a new amp was that it had to be all-tube with a nice overdrive. Over the month leading up to buying this amp I played on:
Fender HotRod
Laney VC30 212
Laney LC3
Peavey Classic 30
Marshall DSL40
Vox AC15
...yet this was the only amp that really stood out.

I have an Epiphone Casino with P-90's has a very bassy, bright clean tone playing an assortment of styles..(whatever I can get my hands around). The amp is pretty quiet until driven hard as you would expect. A fair bit of noise is a product of the reverb, which itself can be set quite deep. I haven't had a chance to really give the clean channel some stick, but so far it seems to stay clean for 70-80% of its volume. The amount of gain I find is more than enough, and once refined, puts out a creamy and solid overdrive. It's certinally not as heavy as the Marshall, but streets ahead of the Fender, Laney's and Peavey (maybe not the Peavey). Unfortunatly I get a heap of feedback through the archtop...
The clean channel would also have to be the best (along with the Fender). The clean on the Laney and the Marshall was flat, dull and had no dynamics. The EQ on this amp is very generous and can dial in a vast assorment in sounds.

Been playing, on and off for 10 years and deceided it was time to treat myself with some good equipment. I fell in love with this amp as soon as I played it...but was sceptical as it was basically the first amp I tried. I spent ages comparing and just found this one to suit me the best. The clean tone is just so sweet and full-bodied.
I would buy two, so if one was stolen I wouldn't be without one for too long. (does the robber take both?!...booo!)
The P-90's just complement this amp so well, very much suited to eachother. For the 15W-30W tube combo's out there that I played on...it was a clear winner, and am happy that I did go out there and play on them because now I know quality of the competition. I have no doubt whoever plays on this amp will enjoy it...but remeber, each to there own...find an amp that suits you!
Hope this review helped.

Effects loop needs a mix knob let's way to much through.Needs separate eq's for clean and dirty with reverb and a speaker out to hook up a extra speaker cab.Loud enough for medium size clubs great for jamming light as a feather.

I have a gibson sg with 57 classic plus pickups it sounds great on the clean channel really round and spanky very nice. The distortion is really good you wont need a distortion pedal this thing has tons of gain. The reverb is ok sounds about average. You can get sound awesome funk sounds on this amp and metal too It doesnt sing like a mesa but for the price you can't beat it.I have had it for about 4 months played a few gigs with it.It isnt spectacular the distortion sounds kinda like solid state.I would say this amp sounds pretty good.At low volumes the distortion is awesome with my 2x12 mesa recto cabinet pluged in improved the sound tremedously I would say if you replaced the speaker to vintage 30 It would sound alot better.

This amp has an amazing ability to bring out nuances in my guitar's pickups and in my playing that make it more versatile than other amps with more features. My strat can go from a full jazz sound to a twangy country sound using the same clean setting but with different pickup selections. The features are pretty basic but it covers everything I need. It's decently loud, too. The twenty watts in this thing can get much more volume than other lower wattage amps.

This amp adds a fatness, sustain, and presence to my guitar that is unbelievable! It's much, much better than my old Fender Blues Deville and in a different league than the Marshall combo I used to have. It reminds me of a Mesa/Boogie, but I think it even sounds better than that. I would agree that the mid EQ is very much on the treble side and I'm not a huge fan of the reverb on this amp, but I can live with that as long as I keep getting this amazing sound.

I compared this amp to the Fender Blues Deluxe right next to it in the store and it was night and day. It's an incredible value and it only weighs 35 lbs., now I'll have to find some way to work out other than by carrying a heavy amp. I do wish it had a standby switch, I cringe for the tubes every time I shut it off and hear a 'pop'. But with this thing, it's all about the amazing tone. 20 watts 12" Celestion speaker 2 Channels Line out to run a Cabinet. Reverb and Gain in addition to the usual Tone nobs. All tone contols, except GAIN, are applicable to both channels. Footswitchable(FS not included!!! DUH!!!!!!!)between Clean and Lead Channel.
No Standby Switch No Headphone Jack(eh) I don't miss seperate tone controls as much as I miss the ability to dial in Gain to the clean channel(is it just me?)
I have received this amp for a friend who is starting to play electric. At $399 from musiciansfriend.com(these shouldn't last long!) it's a steal! I A-B'd it versus my Mesa Subway Rocket Reverb...that's my basis of comparisson---
It's a simple and usable format--a 6 or 7 or whatever---you could call it a 9 because at this price level you give and you get0--I'll give it a 7 and say that it has some nice tweaks and some things I miss--generally, Im thrilled with it as a package!

I played my Lone Star Strat--two Texas Special Singles and a Pearly Gates Humbucker at the bridge. The clean channel is really nice. I can tell the difference with the 12" speaker versus the 10" on my Mesa. Nice warm full round tone. I especially liked the affect on the Single coils versus my Mesa(which I love!). The Clean Channel does give a nice Honey-Crunch as you approach the paint peeling volumes.
The clean channel is also very nice. I was looking for the ability to get major Distortion at minor volume--DONE!!! The higher volume distortion is also very good..I'm pleased with it.
I also tried an Epiphone AJ18se(solid topped a/e) through the amp. I was very surprised at the great tone through the clean channel--again, I credit the 12' speaker. I played with it a bit...I achieved nice acoustic through hollowbody/Archtop nuances(nicely written, huh?!). For kicks, I played throught the lead channel w/ the Acoustic---some interesting if not noteworthy stuff!
Criticism: The tone settings on the amp do not have the sort of precision of my Mesa...I'd like seperate sets for all tones on both channels, but I'd especially prefer a seperate gain for the Clean channel.
Overall---this amp sounds GREAT!!!---especially for the $399 that I paid.
For low/moderate volume settings, you get a warmed up Clean Channel and soem great distortion options. You can take it from your LR/BR to a full Practice setting to a small performance setting. I like it better than the Fenders and Peavey's I've heard(those that compete in this SIZE)---I prefer it to a Hot Rod Deluxe---the deluxe at 40W will probably widen your ability to perform at bigger gigs, but it's almost impossible to get a good tone out of a Hot Rod Deluxe at moderate and low volumes.
I've heard and played 10's(not at these prices-not without mods)---this is a really good sounding amp!

If my Friend Jon doesn't pick up this amp from me soon, I'm in danger of adding it to my collection. Despite what I don't like, the basic tone of this amp is really lovable. I A-B'd it versus my Mesa. My Mesa is a better amp, but I think this amp would do better with some things versus my Mesa. I'm stuck between an 8-9 as an overall impression. I'm gonna say that it's a ten at hte price I paid---I'll give it a very juiced 8. That's really a 7 with recognition of the limits of the price class. -I'm not sure when my amp was made. The guy at the store said it was new, so I'm guessing it was made in 2001 - 2002.
-The amp has the features I was looking for in an affordable package.
-It is an all-tube combo sporting two EL-84 ruby tubes giving it a very british sound.
-It has a clean and drive channel, both channels share the same eq and reverb settings.
-I wish there was a seperate eq for each channel, but for the price and quality of this amp, I can't complain.
-It also has an fx loop and a line out for an ext. cab.
-I use this amp at home for practice but mostly for jamming. It is very loud for a 20watt amp. I imagine it should be loud enough for gigging small venues. I would probably mic it or attach an ext. cab. for larger venues.

-I've used my dearmond m-66 w/humbuckers, and also my fender strat and tele thru this amp. They all sound great on this amp. The strat and tele w/ single coils really shine on the clean channel. It has more of a warm and raspy vox type sparkle rather than a glass-like fender tone. Lots of bass response due in part to the closed back.
-My dearmond doesn't sound as sweet on the clean channel, but to my ears I prefer the sound of single coils for my clean sounds anyway.
-The drive channel has loads of gain, it sounds a bit bassy at lower volumes, but at higher volumes past 3, the sound is very full and the higher frequencies really come out!! Of course this would depend on your eq settings. The gain of the amp alone makes my single coil guitars sound really full and punchy. The gain channel is perfect for humbucker guitars as well.
-The amp is very quiet. The drive channel only brings out the noise from what you have in your signal chain i.e. noisy p/u's, stompboxes etc. Other amps I've tried or owned in the past had very noisy gain channels, even when the guitar's volume was at O.
-I love the gain of this amp. It sounds reminiscent of a marshall type gain. It is very versatile you can get a nice blues type crunch at lower settings. The distortion responds very nicely to your picking attack. At lower gain settings you can also use your guitars volume pot to clean up the signal. At higher settings, from 6 to 10, the gain is very powerful and sustains nicely for leads. I don't find it too be muddy at the higher gain settings. You have to use your eq to clean it up. I usually use very little eq: treble at around +2 to +3, mids at -2 to +1, bass at -1 to +1.
The clean channel stays clean till around 8, depending on what guitar you're using and your picking attack.
-Reverb is very subtle and sweet, not tinny sounding like some fender amps(this is not always bad though). The reverb is very quiet, even at max. level there is no static noise.
-I was deciding between this amp or a fender 65' deluxe reverb, or a hot rod deluxe for around the same price range.
-I decided on this amp because the 65 reverb only had one channel, sounds great and is a classic, nice vibrato channel, but the H&K is more versatile. The hot rod deluxe on the other hand also had a sweet clean channel but the distortion, to my ears was a bit muddy and to compressed for my tastes. The hot rod was also to powerful an amp for my needs. I wouldn't have been able to enjoy playing it at home, because at low levels (0.5 in the volume knob is loud enough)the tone isn't there. You need the volume at least to 3 (past 4 preferrably), but this would be way too loud for my neighbours.

-When I first played it at the store it sounded great. When I came back to the store a few days later, it had a rattling sound and I noticed it didn't sound as full, lacking a lot of low end response.
-It was a good thing I decided to try it out again before I bought it. It turned out to be one of the tubes being lose. The guys at the store fixed this up for me. Once fixed it sounded just as awesome as when I first tried it. Only then did I decide to buy it.
-I've had it for about 2 months now and I haven't run into this problem again.
-Like any other tube amp, you can't be to rough with it when lugging it around.
-The back is almost fully closed except for a 1/2 inch slit on the bottom of it. The tubes are pretty safe and covered by the back panel.
-I imagine it should be quite reliable as long as you're careful when handling it.
-It's been great so far. I wouldn't order one of the internet though because the tubes may get loose during the shipping, which is probably what happened when mine was shipped to the store. Since it was repaired for me for free before I even commited to buying it, this was not a problem. The guys at N.J.A.M.S. (where i bought it) are great. If ever I have any problems with it, I was told to just bring it in and they will take care of it.
-Despite of the initial problem w/ the loose tube, The amp seems reliable enough for gigging. Because it is a tube amp though, I probably should bring a back up at gigs, just in case.

-I haven't dealt w/ the company.
-The warranty card was in deutsch so it wasn't very useful. Since the place where I bought it is very good when it comes to servicing etc. this is not a problem
-from my translation I beleive the components are waranted for 6 mo.s and the amp is waranted for 36mo.s (3 yrs.)

-I've been playing about 10 yrs. I also own a vox pathfinder practice amp, which I mostly use for at home playing (great amp).
-I used to own a fender solid state deluxe 112 plus which I traded in for this amp. (This brought the price of the H&K down to $700)
-The guys at the store were nice enough to give me $100 off(it was selling for $1000) after I mentioned to them I could get it for around $800 dollars from the internet including shipping etc. It was worth paying the extra $100 dollars.
-I usually use a vox wah pedal>maxon OD-808>Proco Rat thru the amp. They all sound great and work well with this amp. I also sometimes use my Boss ME-8 thru the amp which also sounds good except for the distortion sounds, which sounded good on my SS fender amp, but are very colored and tinny sounding thru this and any other tube amp.
-I play jazz, blues, rock and hard rock thru this amp and it sounds great for all styles.
-You can get sounds from STP, Radiohead, 3EB, Doobie Brothers, Hendrix to even The Beatles, with the amp alone.
-It's very light and portable and has enough power to really rock out. Unless you play large venues regularly you may need more power, but for my needs it has more than enough. The amp still sounds good at lower to moderate volumes. Most amps with more wattage need to be played really loud before the tubes are really working, to give you a sweet sound.
- I only need to turn the volume up to around 6 at the most when jamming. 2 to 3 at home for practicing.
- This amps got the tone and the right amount of wattage for me. I love this amp!!

It's back to sounding nice again, but that's because it's a new amp. See below.
When Unrepentant Package Smashers dropped it off, a preamp tube had gone microphonic. I replaced both 12ax7s, and the sound was great. Then, I put the slightly microphonic tube(s) in my Vibro-Champ, which also sounds great now. Tubes that are messed up in a high gain amp are sometimes good enough for a low gain amp to use without a problem.

It's hard to say. I hope this new one doesn't blow up three months down the line like the last one did. I'm beginning to think that all those people who say EL84s are a poor tube to put in a combo are correct. Maybe it gets too hot in there for that PCB? All I know is that this amp is going to get babied from now on. I think I'll go back to making the Marshall and the Fender the amps that leave the house. They can take some abuse.

Larry at H&K in Mt. Prospect, IL seems to be a good guy. He couldn't figure out what was making the bad sound, in my amp, so he sent me another. The new one sounds good. Larry talked to me for a while both times I called, and he didn't seem like I was troubling him.
It's a shame my old amp messed up, but the good service made up for a lot of the badness of the experience.

Be careful with this amp. You need good preamp tubes, since the gain is so ridiculously high.

Sound great, especially when played at the levels normally used at rehearsals and club-gigs (volume at 7 or 8, clean ch). The gain channel is great too and has less bass than clean channel, which is good for lead tones. Also the reverb is "intelligent" so that there is less reverb on gain channel as on clean channel with the same reverb setting, making lead tones clearer if a lot of reverb is used on the clean channel. There is a lot of bottom on the sound, because of the almost closed cabinet. Clean stays clean at high volumes and gain cahnnel has separate gain and master volume to set the level according to the clean channel.
However, there is one minor "fault" that I have found with this amp. The treble and middle controls are interactive, so that it is almost impossible to add middle range without adding treble. Also the middle range is voiced realatively high, making it almost treble. I usually set the treble to zero, middle to 11 (a'clock) and bass to 12 (a'clock). Still there is a little too much treble with my stock AS Stratocaster and I would like add more middle. However, with my nasally sounding Ibanez TS7 pedal the sound is just right.

No problems yet, the amp doesn't get very hot after hours of use.
This a modern tube amp, so it is not as reliable as a solid state amp. You will have to change power tubes (two EL84) once a year (if you use it often). The amp uses Ruby Tubes as a stock. Also when you change the power tubes you will have to do biasing, which requires special knowledge, most probaly you will have to take it to a qualified tube amp repairer.

The amp was introduced in 2001 and that's the year I bought it. With a few stomboxes (cry-baby, daddy-o, cool cat, tuna melt and a delay you can get any possible sound from it from rock'n roll over country to metal(not nu metal). And of course it's excellent for any kind of blues. It has two channels, clean and gain but shame on the company for the lack of a footswitch. It has a nice smooth reverb (could be a little bit more) and helpfully the gain channel has a master voulume. The best feature on this is it's versatility and the weight. You can take this baby evreywhere by yourselve and it has enough guts to play clubs with. And if that's not enough you can plug a cabinet in.

As I said before, there's not much this little brat couldn't do, as long as you're not in the shredding league. And it makes noise of course, but not more than other tube-amps I've played. Like many I love the clean Fender and and the dirty Marshall sounds and this thing is the first amp I've heard that nearly succeed to unite both worlds. If a twin or a marshall is to loud and heavy for you, I suggest the ET. I would say it's vintage with a modern touch.

I play for 12 years mostly in punk, metal or blues bands. I play mainly a JV Signature Strat, sometimes an Epiphone Casino and it seems to me that the amp does like single coils more than humbuckers but maybe it's just my setting (all at 12). I've tried many different amps (Mesa, Marshall or Fender) but this is the best value I have ever seen.

The features have already been covered by the others.Seperate EQ sections and a deeper reverb would have been nice, but it being a quality tube amp at it's price point,I don't expect those things.I find the Edition Tube to be quite versatile, with many very happening tones easily at my disposal. The 20 watt power section and single Celestion G12F-60 speaker give me just the right amount of power tube grind and sustain, and at a good volume, for small to moderate sized club work.I usually run a bit of compression in front of the amp,and a touch of reverb and delay [Boss RV-3] through the FX loop for the tones I like.I sometimes run a 2-12 Celestion cabinet from the 8/16 ohm speaker out when more coverage is needed.I like it's relatively small size, and it's also quite light at 35 pounds. No cover was offered,so I bought a nice one from LeCover.com for $25.00.I give it an 8 for having two channels, reverb,FX Loop and a 8/16 ohm speaker out...as well as for the many cool tones I can get.

I love the grind and singing sustain that a well designed EL84 powered amp can get...and this one gets some pretty sweet tones of it's own.I use everything from a USA Hamer Studio Archtop to a Fender Strat with this amp, with all of my guitars sounding excellent through the Edition Tube.I often just run through the gain channel, using the guitar's volume to clean things up [which it does nicely].The active EQ gives quite a bit of versatility to the tone.I tend to be conservative on the settings, with the treble at around 12-1 o'clock, mids at about 10-12 o'clock and the bass at around 8-9 o'clock. This combo has some serious bass response, due to it's almost fully enclosed 12" Celestion speaker.I like the gain at about 10-11 o'clock, the volume at 2-3 o'clock for club work.At these settings, the amp is quite dynamic and sweet.Great for modern blues and most classic rock. The clean channel is nice and sparkling, staying relatively sweet and clean up until around 3 o'clock on the volume control. The reverb sounds pretty nice on the clean channel, but doesn't seem to add much in the high gain mode. The gain channel gets real rude and nasty past 2 o'clock on the gain control.I find the higher gain tones to be more late '80/early '90s metal [think Lynch or Lukather] than nu metal,Rectifier type distortion. It can get a pretty convincing scooped metal tone by cranking the treble and bass and cutting the mids. There is plenty of gain on tap for most guitarist needs, except for possibly the most insane distortion junkies.I find that the gain channel can get quite a bit louder than the clean channel. This is not a problem with me,since I love to just use the guitar's volume in the gain channel when playing live.I really love the tone of this little combo.I give it a very healthy 9.

I have had the amp for about 6 months with no problems,so I really have no idea for the long term.I know that Hughes & Kettner make excellent products that are well designed. One thing of concern is the lack of ventilation on the amp.The only opening I can find is a small 2 inch slit at the back/bottom of the of the cabinet.EL84's can usually get quite hot,but the Edition Tube feels only moderately warm to the touch...even after a long gig.It must be that German engineering,LOL!I will hold my rating on this one.I can only hope for the best.

I love this light and small combo.Especially considering that I bought it used,in mint condition, for only $300.00 on the HC classifieds. They list for $799.00,but have seen them as low as $519.00 at a couple of web retailers.I've been playing everything from "old school" metal to modern blues for 25+ years. If lost or stolen,I would buy another and hope it sounds as sweet as this one.I have several USA Hamers and USA Washburn guitars,as well as a nice USA Fender Strat,a Martin acoustic and a Warwick Streamer bass.Other amps include a mid '80s Mesa Boogie MKIIC+ head [EL34 modded],a nice Valvetech combo,a Fender Prosonic combo,an early '60s Supro and a Hartke B30 bass amp.The Edition Tube fits in quite well with my other amps and gear.I originally bought it only for when my back acts up and the heavier amps would not be practical for gigs, but was quickly won over by it's many sweet tones and dynamic gain channel. This amp has a definite British vibe, especially in the gain channel, but it can get some nice Fender like clean tones as well.If you are looking for a small, relatively loud tube combo,as well as dig the sweet grind of EL84's,you could do alot worse than getting a Hughes & Kettner Edition Tube.I give it an overall rating of 9.

Great, rich but still clear sound. It chokes/compresses in a nice way on higher levels. The best thing about this amp is in my opinion that it sounds the best at the levels I normally use at rehearsals and club-gigs. With other amps I only get the saturation/compression I want when recording (because then the level is unimportant). That has always been the case with my Sovtek Midget 60 and Laney LC 30 II.
The guitars I use are mainly Fender Lead II and Guild S-100. I think this amp sounds the best when using a guitar with single coils (the Fender) because of the amps bassy sound. With humbuckers it tends to be a bit muddy. Actually I think the amp is very revealing. The way your guitar sounds, that's the basic sound you'll get. On the other hand the tone controls do an excellent job and you can always get some sort of great sound out of the amp. The clean channel gives warmth and tons of tone. The gain channel is a bit too much on the high gain for my taste but you can always turn the gain down, so no problem. In my opinion there's more bass when using the clean channel than when using the gain channel. That's mainly why I would like separate tone controls for each channel.

I have only had it for a month but I've had some problems with it that were there from the beginning. When switching from the gain channel to the clean channel it makes a boomy noise that is almost as loud as when I strike a chord. On bassy notes there is a rattling noise. The amp also seems to have a problem with the grounding. No matter what guitar I use it makes a much worse noise when touching the strings than any of my other amps do.

I talked to my lokal dealer about the problems with the amp and he claims these problems are all normal for a tube amp. Why don't I have the same problems with my other amps, I ask. Anyway, he won't help me. I have sent two e-mails to the main H&K-supplier with no response. BAD.

Though there are some problems I still rate this amp high. It sounds terrific and that's my main concern. It's also easy to carry around and looks good too. I will put in a Red Box myself and see to it that the rattling is fixed. The other little problems I will put on the "charm-account" and live with it.
I've been playing for 15 years and I expect I will keep this one for a looong time.

1X12 Tube-Combo. 2 Channels, clean an lead. footswitchable. It has reverb and 20 Watts. Two EL 84 powertubes and ECC 84 Pre-Amp Tubes. Only one input an one output for external speaker. Clean volume, lead gain and volume, treble, mids and bass and a mastervolume, that's all. It' s easy to carry, cause it has about 17 kg. I bought it in early June 2001. It was new. My styles are Oldies, Rock'n Roll and Blues. The Amp is good for practice. Not too loud. It's also good for Clubgigs, and on larger stages I plug in an external speakercabinet.

This Amp sounds good wich all my guitars. I have some Strats, Teles, Gibson SG and two Yamaha AEX 502 (P 90 Pickups, semi solid). The Yamahas are especially good for old Rock'n Roll. A few day ago, I bought a Santana SE by PRS made in Korea, a very good sounding guitar. The Amp sounds really good, but it makes a lot of noise, without any guitar plugged in. The clean-channel overdrives at volume settings. It's a very sweet overdrive. The lead-channel has a lot of gain. I use it at about 3, that's enough for me.

The amp is a two channel (Clean and Lead), single 12'' speaker tube combo sporting two Ruby 12AX7's and two EL84's, rated 20 watts. The controls share bass, middle, treble and revrb controls; the middle and treble influence each other so that increasing treble reduces mid and vice-versa. The lead channel has controls for Gain and Master (the master tends to act like power tube gain while the Gain acts as preamp tube gain), and the clean channel has a single control for volume. There is a channel footswitch available, an external speaker jack (at least 8 ohms at 20W), and an effects loop. The closed back cabinet weighs about 35 pounds and sports a custom Celestion G12F-60 (think brighter Vintage 30). The score loses a point for each of lacking separate EQ's, a gain/solo boost option, and a presence control.

This amp sounds KILLER! The clean channel stays clean until about 8, but it is a very warm clean sound with a lot of character but not too much coloring. I can even play my Park NiteFly's acoustic pickup and retain a lot of sparkle in the natural acoustic tones of the guitar. It's great for jazz too, with a really warm sound that still bites at mellower tone settings. Crank it past eight and get sweet, gritty blues tones from the EL84 clipping.
And then there's the lead channel. This channel can accomplish a full range of gain tones from blues grit to rock overdrive, metal crunch, and even a good fuzz tone (MUCH warmer than a big muff). And the channel is soooooooooooo responsive to picking attack and the guitar's volume knob. I have no problems transfering from rhythm to solo feel by riding the volume knob and digging in. The clean channel also responds excellently to feel and attack, and when necessary can cut through the band and warm up to bluesy wailing.

I exposed the amp's guts on the second day I had it because of a rattling noise; turned out the reverb unit had a bad spring and came loose. The tubes are clamped in tightly, so there's nooo chance in hell of them coming loose. I gig without a backup, but I always test the amp at intense levels prior to playing; If it works going into the gig it'll make it through. Tubes cannot be replaced without taking off the back panel (unscrewing, that is), which is a pain, but it also shields the tubes from being shattered by a broken drumstick flying into them.

I like this amp. Very light at 36lbs. I didn't want to lug around a heavey amp. While I didn't need to, I replaced the speaker with a Weber P12B. Warmed up the tone and brought out the middle. Nice addition to the amp. Unfortunately, no line out or headphone jack.
I tried Bogners, Top Hats, Fenders, etc. I liked this amp better.
Case is not heavey but still gives it a nice warm tone.
