Don't know the year, probably early or mid 80's. Same features as mentioned by other posters. As mentioned by the other posters, the footswitch for channel switching was missing when I bought it, BUT LISTEN UP, EVERYONE WHO NEEDS A FOOTSWITCH: one day I went to a music store and tried out a few, and I found out that a BOSS FS-5U works perfectly! There's the solution! I use this amp mostly for practicing and for small gigs. I think it's cool that there are two effects loops unlike most amps that have just one.

Sound Quality : 9
One day I decided I would like to buy a small combo amp for practicing and light gigging for about $200. I went to a second hand music store and tried out a few. When I got to this one, it was like YEAH!! this is the one! Got it for $200. Definately worth it! I took it to a jam one night, this guy plugged into it and said "wow! this amp has perfect tone! is this a tube amp?" No kidding, that's what he said! I keep the overdrive knob on all the way for distortion on channel 1. Sounds exactly like an overdriven tube amp. On channel 2 (clean), I find that when I pull out the bright/master volume knob, It sounds to bright and thin, so I just keep the knob pushed and turn up the treble if I'm playing twangy country stuff with my Telecaster. I also use my Digitek RP100 processor for added highs if I need it.

Reliability : 8
This amp was quite reliable until it developed a habit of blowing fuses, so I took it in for servicing. I just got it back, but I haven't even plugged it in yet, so, we'll see. It's an old amp, so you can expect failure once in a while. That's why it's probably best to take the amp in for a checkup once every few years and have a backup. Any serious player who is wise will ALWAYS have more than one amp! You just never know...

Never dealt with Ibanez.

I think I was very lucky to get this amp. There is nothing I don't like about it. It has everything anyone would need. I have been playing fo 28 years. My main gigging amp is a 1979 Peavey Mace. For guitars, I play a Fender Telecaster, Squire Strat, 1965 Fender Jazzmaster, 1976 Ibanez Les Paul copy(for slide) and a Linkon D10 pedal steel. For effects, I use a Digitek RP100 processor, Boss Super Overdrive, Boss CM-3 compressor, Ibanez tremelo and a Crybaby wah. If this amp was lost or stolen, my life wouldn't be ruined, but I would sure miss it.

I don't know the year, got mine back in 85 though, so it was early eighties for sure. I love this thing. I have the foot switch still! My high input bugs out sometimes, I need to get in there and fix the jack (hey it's old!).

Sound Quality : 9
I used this amp exclusively througout the 90's playing gigs all over, it stood up to the abuse with no fuss, and it's sound worked well with any tune we played, clean or distorted. I used to keep the EQ setting really smooth so I could do the old Eddie VanHalen stuff and this amp pulled it off nicely. External MXR distortion added on for that. I just use a BOSS Blues distortion and Chorus. Amp easily adapts for my talk box. I use a Washburn Strat model with humbuckers. Perfect match for this amp.

Reliability : 10
I love it and wouldn't trade it for the world. Top notch construction and design. It's got all the features I need, and it's built to last.

I've been playing for over 20 years, play bass and keys too. I would track down the thief and he'd be wishin' he were never born. Too sentimental, I can't discuss replacing this amp.

I love the brown housing, hate the yellowed grille cloth (must replace that one of these days).

The amp has all it needs, it stands along. Very well done.

Want to hear some rock songs recorded with this puppy go to my site http://www.myeyez.net/my_music.shtml - You'll hear the talk box on Forty Winks. Best regards! keep rocking with your GX's!!

I lent an IBZ gx-100 to a "friend" 5 years ago. He dissapeared w/ it. I had lost the footswitch, and paid someone here in the US to add a 120/220 volt switchable transformer, so I could use it here Bought it in Germany in the '80s). The amp has tremendous sentimental value to me. It was my first decent amp, and I purchased it w/ money I save for a LONG time. I had the perfect Peter Frampton tone w/ it (my main influence at the time) w/ the help of a PEARL chorus and the built-in parametric eq. If anyone has seen this amp, PLEASE contact me. I'd be willing to try to raise a few $$ for it. It's not worth much as a performing-piece, but means a lot to me. Wife is in school, dog, house, mortgage, etc. Not loaded, but maybe we can come to some agreement. Thanks, Jim Adimaro. (jadimaro@aol.com)I live in NJ, 15 mins from Philly, PA.

A solid state amp built somewhere in the 80's. I play mainly pop/rock/blues type of music, and this amps does pretty much all for me. Two channels, two effect loops, a parametric eq, two effect loops reverb...if only there was a footswitch with it to switch the channels, turn on the effect loops etc. ! I use the amp while playing with a 4 piece band, and the amp has quite enough power to get my message through even when our drummer goes berserk ;)

Sound Quality : 10
I own a Takamine GZ-300 with 2 HBs and it fits nicely with the GX-100. I can get a good crunch from the distortion channel, and it really gets nice and fat when you crank it up. The clean sounds ok, no suprises there, the parametric eq gives you enough tweaking possibilites to adjust the sound to pretty much anything you could want.

Reliability : 10
The amp is very robust and there hasn't been any problems so far, I owned it about 8 months now, and its about 20 years old! Don't think I'd need a backup with this one.

Customer Support : 1
Never got any answers when I tried to pull out some info on the footswitch. Dunno whether the footswitch was ever even produced, or if these promo amps came out without. Anyway, it's bloody annoying playing the gigs without one.

Overall Rating : 9
I'd probably disembowel anyone trying to steal this amp from me. I really like it, and I don't think I'll sell it in the next 20 years. It' would be just perfect if I could get my hands on the footswitch, or if I could even get decent schematics on the amp, I could build one myself. I have one gif-file that I found, which has the schematics, but in pretty bad resolution...

Judging from the other reviews, this amp dates to the early '80s. Two channels, clean & distortion, separate volume controls plus a separate distortion control, main volume, bass & treble, two eq-type knobs (very effective), two effects loops, reverb, headphone jack, ext. out, solid state. Plenty of power (80 to 100 watts; not sure which). Used for jams alone/with friends, rock & blues. Fairly versatile, though some may want stronger distortion, reverb, or other effects.

Sound Quality : 8
The sound on this thing is amazing, considering its age, cost, and solid-state electronics. I'm currently playing it on a Washburn strat-copy, and it perfectly suits my mainstream rock/blues leanings, with nice Townshend-style power chords and a range of effective lead sounds. I especially love its chord sounds on the distortion channel, which have a particularly rich, bright, and spectrally full sound, not necessarily the tight tone-dull crunch-fuzz of a lot of amps (though this is likely a matter of taste). I've compared it side-by-side with one friend's mid-range Marshall, and it stands up well. On the clean channel, it's respectable but clearly inferior to the Marshall. On the distortion channel it's right on a par with the Marshall with some settings, but not able to sound as good across a variety of settings -- not as versatile. Still, for a solid state amp it's sound quality and versatility is very good.

Reliability : 10
One of the other reviewers says that his Ibanez GX-100 has been around the world X times for some thousand or so gigs. Well, I think I got his old amp, because this one looks like it's been dragged around the world a few times. I had to replace a pot when I got it, and the "high" input doesn't work, but I suspect you could drop-kick this thing off a tall building without affecting anything but its appearance. Built like a brick. I'd use it without backup at any gig.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have no idea.

Overall Rating : 8
I took a huge chance buying this used off an EBAY auction for $99.00 for use as an inexpensive practice amp. What a great gamble! Not only does this thing sound about 100 times better than the el-cheapo practice amps out there (which are not worth buying at all!!), but its quality, tone, and versatility are good enough for gigging/jamming. I sometimes augment it with a fabtone or dan-echo, when I'm going for a heavier distortion sound or for something more esoteric, but all in all this is an effective amp, well worth a couple of hundred $$ more and a great value at $99. I would be up the proverbial creek if it were stolen or lost -- I don't think I could replace this particular amp, and replacing it with a different amp of equal quality would probably run upwards of $300. This amp is completely respectable.

Probably around 1983 or so
I play all kinds of styles -mainly Rock- Alternative and even praise & worship.
the other review pretty much covers the channel options. I use the cleanest setting for a basis for my GT-5 by Roland and it works great for small gigs or mic ed for larger venues. It is really a backup or lighter replacement for my JCM800 lead head.
The reverb is nice and the para EQ is splendid for tweaking a final sound after my Proccessor

Sound Quality : 10
I do not use the distortion as it is generally pretty week but not bad for blues. this is just a good amp to run my processor and is more than adequate for that or any beginner. It sounds fantastic through my pedal and that is what I use it for . A great practise amp also

Reliability : 10
I have had this thing since 1986 and it has worked flawlessly every since . I had to fix a short in it after storing it for years but that was mininal compared to how it has been carried around to venues

If it where lost or stolen I would probably not be able to find another one anyway! They were a limited promo from ibanez as the other review states. I would more than likely get a good clean fender Combo of some sort. My dad bought this for me as one of my first amp so it is really sentimental :-) I give it 9 because it does what i need it to and no more. By itself it would not be that useful to me or anyone else who needed a great tone just from the amp

Promotional equipment I received from Ibanez in 1983, this amp has been around the world twice and has been used more than 3000 times in public performances. the amp has channel switching, two effects loops, parametric EQ,reverb,line-out. It seems a little noisy if you use the effects loops, But I prefer very little besides a real guitar sound

Sound Quality : 9
I own a Gibson Les Paul- 1969, Gibson L-6, Ibanez Blazer(1979), Two Fender Strats, It suits all of them effectively, gives tough distortion at mid-volume levels through the distortion channel, clean through the clean channel even turned up to 9 after 15 years.

Reliability : 10
This amp has been to 46 states, around the world twice, and lived through 3000 plus performances. I still use it every Sunday Morning at Church. I have had it serviced every couple of years as maintenance, never because of breakdown.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never needed it.

Overall Rating : 10
I am thirty-four and do not remember when I started playing Guitar, I have always played- it seems. I can't imagine this amp being stolen, and this particular one would be impossible to replace, but I think I would try to find another. I own a Gibson Les Paul- 1969, Gibson L-6, Ibanez Blazer(1979), Two Fender Strats, a Fender Avalon acousic, 1927 Martin, Guild F-12.
