Picked the Jade up secondhand, in good nick. Looks good, 10' speaker, metal grill, fairly solid amp construction wise. 2 channels, all the usual eq adjustments, a gain for the clean channel as well as the dirty. No line outs or extension cab jacks. Jammed with it once and blew the speaker, an 80watt job. It was fully cranked for about 1/2 hour of chunderous metal, then, pffft. Was just loud enough for garage usage.

Sound Quality : 4
I've used this amp as a bass amp, and it kicks arse, I'm sure the speaker is a bass one, (was) as I couldnt get the bite I wanted with my guitars, (BC Rich Warlock, Aslin Dane teaza 2h, Marina Concorde series, 2 Jap Gibson les paul copies). Too muddy.

Reliability : 2
Crap speaker, not reliable, maybe previously abused, but I've been pretty kind to it. You wouldnt gig with it, couldnt.

Been playing since 74, many styles, self taught. My main amps a Musicman Rd112 50,with a 2/12 cab and a 1/12 cab, Lorantz and Plessey speakers, a damned good set up. I dont like bagging out an amp,oz company, but this one's not that brilliant. I'm gunna transplant the gut's of it into a decent cab, and run a proper 12" speaker, should be ok then.

I'm not sure when this amp was made, but my Dad bought it new in 1998. This is definitely NOT a versatile amp: it is a solid state hard rock amp only. I has two channels - the clean channel is mediocre but the distortion channel, when configured properly, has a great metal sound with plenty of low end and no shrill highs. The best way to describe the tone is FAT! Very fat - in some cases a little too much. I can't remember if it has an effects loop, but it doesn't have reverb and as I am a Fender amp fan this really is a sticking pint for me. This amp is not very loud in comparison with my Fender Deluxe 85, but it has a good metal tone and and is a reasonable amp for practising or neighbourhood playing.

I have played through this amp with three distinctly different guitars. First was my 3 single-coiled American Standard Stratocaster. This guitar has a beautiful, round but desirably twangy tone when played clean, and sounds great when played through my Fender Deluxe 85. Clean on the Jade, however, was awful - very flubby and too bassy. Adjusting the tone controls, which are quite variable, helped a little, but it still was a little lifeless. Apart from the hum of my Strat, it sounded very fat and warm through the distortion channel, and I got a really nice controllable harmonic feedback when I found the sweet spot.

Second, I played through this amp with my Samick Ibanez RG copy. This guitar has a high output humbucker which sounds flat and quacky on any clean amp, but is something else when mondo gain is involved. I switched to the distortion channel and found a range of great tones - Sabbath's heavy mid/bass tone, a scooped early Sepultura tone, and even a great Soundgarden almost Stoner Rock tone - good 'n' sludgy. The harmonic response was great, I could get pinch harmonics on almost any tone setting with the gain maxxed out.

The third guitar I played through this amp was my Dad's Ibanez Talman, which has a Duncan '59 in the neck and a JB in the bridge. Clean, it was flat and uninspiring. Distorted, it was similar to the Samick, only the harmonic response was not as strong and the mid-scooping wasn't apparent.

This amp can emulate a 70s Marshall sound quite well. Like any amp, you need to play with it a little to find a good sound, but clean this amp is a no-no. Stick with Fender amps for clean playing.

Aside from that, this is a very well made, and strong, amp. It has a closed back which adds extra whallop to the already strong bass. It has a stron metal mesh over the speaker and the control panel and knobs are made of alloy. This amp weighs a ton in comparison with my Fender but I bet it is a lot more sturdy. Congrtulations to Jade for their construction.

Reliability : No Opinion
Utterly dependable and bulletproof. I wouldn't gig with it because it is not mine. I think it would stand up to a great deal of abuse, wear and tear. Jade is an Australian firm and the store from which my father purchased this amp is a licensed dealer. I'm sure they'd be helpful is the time came. The quality of the amp's construction is indicative of that.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I cannot make any comments in this area because this amp has never given an iota of trouble. Even my Fender has had more problems than this thing.

Overall Rating : 7
I have been playing for 7 years and have used this amp occasionally over the past 3 years. My Dad loves the tone of it clean and distorted, but he likes a tone which in my opinin is waaay too bottom-ended. I like a little twang and a more mid-rangey sound, so I guess this isn't the amp for me. If you love Marshalls, but want solid state reliability and cost-effectivity, then look no further. The construction is perfect and he price very competitive in comparison with American made amps (like my Fender).

I was using it with Yamaha Pacifica and Yamaha Semi- Acoustic. I was also using a Zoom 505 and a Boss MT-2. I play wide variety or music from metallica to santana and this amp cant do either, the only thing making this amp any good was the MT-2. I took it a jam once and i cranked everythign to 10!!! And still the amp couldnt handle it.
***BUT***
it is ok for late night pracrtise at home.
