8 inch speaker, 25 watts, 10 oz. magnet.

The c8r speaker sounds great clean or with distortion.

Reliability : 9
Well made, should last if used properly.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never used customer support, but don't think I'll need to.

Overall Rating : 9
Great speaker, nice for replacing stock speakers in practice amps. Jensen has been around forever and they do make nice speakers. I'll buy from them again.

I bought this new in 2007 for a homebuilt 5w SE combo with an ECC83 champ-ish pre and EL84 o/p stage. I only use it at relatively low volumes for practise around the house.

I play a fairly primitive but ok 70s japanese Strat replica.
I have found in my amp that the little jensen is quite nice, kind of bright and jangly but balanced and not at all harsh. If that's what you're looking for it sounds fine to my ear.
I admit I haven't tried any other alternatives so I don't have anything to compare it with but I haven't felt compelled to either.

Reliability : No Opinion
No problems at all, it looks well built.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never needed any support so far so I can't comment!

I've been noodling for about 5 years without reaching any degree of sophistication. As much as that I just like the challenge of building things like amps and pedals.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this if you're into clean tone with a bit of warmth.
However I couldn't say how it stands up to higher volumes and being driven hard because that's not how I've used it.

Pressed metal frame, dark green painted, 8" overall diameter, smaller and larger connection tabs for diffent spade connectors. Has that sticky stuff on the cone - good thing for stopping cry. Quite large magnet for such a little tacker at 10 ounces (cf. mod8 at 5.? oz's) and a 1" voice coil. Made in Italy Jensen Special Design on the label which is maroon and light yellow. The frequency response graph of this one is virtually identicle to the P8R which has the alnico magnet and came out in an earlier era about 1940's. These speakers came out about 1960ish and have a ceramic magnet being the main difference.

Sound Quality : 9
Well, it is very nice clean, overdriven it sings, and distorsion is very fat and defiant. This speaker perhaps due to size, and moreso as it's in a small open backed combo has a more subtle bass response, but NO, it is a beefy little basser which doesn't fold under pressure. It is able to take it all with ease and I am pleased I took a chance on buying it online. Not harsh, not dull, and so pleasingly it is very very transparent to guitar tone. Previously this amp had very little responsiveness to pickup and or tone/volume changes and was very bottlenecked tonally which I felt was due to the original speaker. It was a very uninspired sound and I prefered to practice unplugged!. This little amp was headed for the door as there was no way known I would have my musical enjoyment spoilt by unacceptably crappy tone during practice. I ordered the Jensen knowing little about them but noted that this one had a massive magnet which looked proportionately as big as on my Vintage 30's.

This speaker has achieved a whole lot of nice tonal inspiration and musicality from this practice amp. I was holding off playing the amp as it was going to be sold off as it was terribly uninspirational, not something you want in any situation particularly practice. Now it is very pretty to play through and has comparable quality of tone to my Marshall SLX through 2X12 Celestion Vintage 30's. That amp is too loud for the house in the evenings and I needed a really great sounding practice platform. I have certainly done well and this speaker is a huge part of that equasion.

Reliability : 10
Can handle 25 watts RMS and is being used in a 15 watt combo with a solid state output. Even turned up full which it never is the speaker can take it all. This is important. For example if using a 100 Marshall into a 100 watt cab the clean power is 100RMS and overdriven it goes higher. If this amp also had a valve power stage at 15 watts clean this speaker would still be just right to take the power of an overdriven output stage. Speakers fail due to too much power through them, or cones rotting away, or the former wearing out so the coil rubs. Too much power will kill a speaker really quickly, the other things are a quality issue, and these are high quality units for sure.

Very reasonable all areas considered. I use a Gibson Les Paul with this so I wanted something capable of delivering the extremely wide range of tones you can get out of one of these instruments. This thing really delivers a pure representation of the Les Paul tone. I hope nobody buys too many of these Jensen's as if the secret gets out the prices might go up too much ;) -- Yes I think the secret might be out though as Jensen have been around since 1926.

With what's about in this size I think it's a bit of a winner, and independently of other speakers this one gets a higher overall rating. It's good, it's vintage sounding cause it IS from an older era, and that era is the 60's. It's a nice smooth well rounded and very clear sounding speaker. I like it :)
