I have a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, and I needed a new speaker badly. The stock speaker didn't sound very good, it was very bassy and flabby and sounded muddy at all volumes and on the overdrive channels. The speaker was making my $500 tube amp sound like a $50 poorly made solid state amp. I wanted something inexpensive that wouldn't interfere with the "natural" sound of my amp and wouldnt push the highs, mids, lows over the edge. I saw this and decided to give it a shot

Sound Quality : 10
As for guitars, I use a Fender 1959 Reissue Strat (MIM) with stock pickups and a 1969/1970 Univox High Flyer with P-90s. This speaker is exactly what I was looking for in terms of sound. My clean channel sounds wonderful now, perfect Fender chimey sound. I start to get SRV's clean sound when I use my Strat and put my amp around the 6-10 range (Fender Hot Rod Deluxes go to 12) and Robby Kreiger's clean tone when I use my Univox and set the amp at 4-6. The overdrive channels are now useable and sound great, nice SRV/Hendrix overdrive sound with the Strat, Cream era Clapton with the Univox. My amp is no longer muddy sounding, notes are crystal clear and my treble, mid, bass knobs affect the tone alot more than they used to.

Haven't had it long enough to judge.

Havent had to deal with them.

This is a great replacement speaker, I highly recommended it, especially to those with Hot Rod Deluxes. Before you buy a Greenback, Alnico Blue, Vintage 30, etc. just for the name and the hype, you should check this speaker out. Dont be fooled by the price, the stock Fender speaker I had in my amp sounds like shit compared to this speaker. I'd definitely buy it agian, it was exactly what I was looking for and exceeded my expectations. I'm thinking of building a 2X12 cabinet for my amp and two more of these speakers will probably be sitting in it.

Jensen MOD 12-50. Typical Jensen appearence with a large ceramic magnet. Speaker is rated 50-watts RMS with a 100-watt peak rating. Voice coil is 1-1/4" & the speaker weights about 5-lbs. Available in 8 or 16 ohms. Although some pictures shows only four bolt holes, my speaker has eight available.

Sound Quality : 10
Using a JB Player with a humbucker into a 'junk' Crate GX60 amp, this Jensen MOD speaker just stomps the stock Crate speaker in higher performance. In fact, makes the Crate a good sounding amp from the dull & lifeless crap the Crate was with the original speaker.

No need to send $100 on a Celestion or Eminence 'Red', Eminence 'Texas' this or that, etc for great sonics. I paid $27 on sale. About time quality comes forth for affordable cost.

Reliability : No Opinion
I suspect no future issues- speaker is new.

How can one beat this bargain for $27?

12" speaker rated at 50 watts, 8 or 16 ohm. Larger magnet than other Jensen speakers. Speaker marketed as having "British" flavor.

I compared this speaker to a Celestion G12H30. The Jensen was tighter and more focused that the celestion and notes had more clarity. The Celestion had a nice open woody sound that was really great almost acoustical. The Jensen was nice and chimey but different than a Celestion. I liked the Jensen when overdriven or using distortion because it stayed clear where the as the Celestion was more blended (not fuzzy but not as focused). I had to play with the mid range controls to get the tone I was after and this meant turning the midrange completely off at times. My guitar pickups medium output and I tried several amps,Peavey JSX, Pignose G60V, Peavey Classic 30. I feel that one does get a more modern overdrive or ditortion tone out of this speaker where as the Celsetion was more classic rock sounding.

New speaker, so far so good

Have not dealt with the company

I would try running them in a 2x12 or 4x12.

Strats . Blues through tube amps . I got this speaker because of the price and for use in a fender musicmaster bass amp 1971 model year that I modded slightly for guitar use . When I opened the box my first reaction was OH NO . It looked cheap and did not give me the impression it would sound like much . I already tried a eminence 12 75 watt and a weber 12 60 watt and they did not do much for me . The Mod 50 has a same magnet compared to the others and a smaller voice coil and seemingly thick cone paper not to leave out the blue MOD lable . So I placed it in the amp not expecting much and I surprised how this speaker brought out the best in this amp . I thought it was a fluke so I tried the other speakers again , they were not as clear and rounded sounding and not as loud . I have since tried a celestion V1230 and a eminence texas heat in this amp and I went right back to the Mod -50

Reliability : 5
So far so good , I did'nt like the way the coil seemed to be attached to the cone but it has'nt come apart and so far it has taken a beating .

Customer Support : No Opinion
So far I have'nt needed them

Overall Rating : 7
I wonder what the RI jensen C12Q would sound like in comparison . if this speaker does decide to quite I may tryone simply because it may be a bit better in quality . Not that the Mod -50 is cheaply made .
