12" 70W ceramic speaker. Its a speaker....

Sound Quality : 9
Just Fantastic, I put one in an Ampeg Jet RI because it was one of the few speakers that would fit the shallow cab. I thought of it as cop-out on a celestion. I was very pleasantly surprised. Very well balanced and I agree with a previous review in that it doesn't color your sound much but lets the amp come through. Sounds a touch like a G12H to me. Really really nice speaker.... You could pretty much play anything though one of these and have it sound good. An absolute steal at the price they are selling these for.

Seems very well made, so far no problems.

An incredible speaker at a fantastic price. A hidden gem in the Jensen line.

A very peculiar and interesting line of speakers. They seem to borrow some design aspects from the older Chicago made ceramics - similar basket, and relatively smaller voice coils and magnets compared to Eminence, Celestion, et al. However, the power ratings are higher, and these clearly aren't voiced like the oldies (or even the RI's). Jensen describes the design as modern - I think that modern improvements hits the mark a little more closely. I'm fairly impressed, and this isn't an easy feat, as there have been many modern 12's that have let me down.

Sound Quality : 8
This speaker was a welcome surprise, and I was kind of holding my breath on how it could possibly deliver the goods, considering it's low price, and how I'm not a big fan of the Jensen RI's. At first I couldn't really identify with the speaker having British sounding characteristics, but now I agree. Aside from that, I like the balance of these speakers - no spikes or scoops per se, but not flat, either. Bottom end is firm without being boomy, mids are smooth (lower mids seem to be more accentuated than upper), and top end isn't strident. The speaker handles distortion pretty handily, and manages to stay under control while getting more aggressive at the same time. THE MOST IMPORTANT aspect of the sound of this speaker is that you can run it as a 1X12 with a tube amp, and not have to worry about cone cry or edge yowl, like is a true issue with so much of the competition. At least that's been my experiences. There is a touch of a subharmonic, but it's not like video game noises, and completely unbearable. The other big plus (for me) is that this thing isn't overly efficient. That is, it's not as loud as a V30 or comparable speaker. I don't play arenas or through 4X12 cabs, so this is a HUGE plus.

Reliability : 6
I've already clocked in quite a few hours on it, and no issues. I've also taken it to it's rated peak power handling on a few occasions, and it's still ticking. But I'm not crazy, either. It's mainly going to be utilized with only tube amps that clock in at around 15-25 watts. Compared to Webers, Celestions, Emi's, etc. the construction doesn't look as robust, but for less than most of the competition charges for a 10", I'm not complaining.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Considering how cheap this speaker was and the prohibitive costs of return shipping, I really don't care. Speakers are like tires or shoes - as long as I get some miles out of this one, then I'm happy.

Overall Rating : 8
Been playing over 30 years, and have owned a ton of amps. I currently own too many - almost all of them are tube amps. Some are personal scratchbuilds. I've been on a bumpy road with 12's over the last year, and this is the first one to truly deliver the goods. It's beaten out the following:

- 80's Celestion G12-80. This one had terrible cone cry and edge yowl, and was too flat sounding.

- Eminence Governor. Also had terrible cone cry, in a 1X12 setup.

- WGS Veteran 30. Cone cry even worse than the Gov, plus some construction concerns.

- Celestion Custom 12 made for Line 6. This was the closest contender. Zero cone cry, and it handles tons of power. But the bottom is on the loose side, and the top end can be a bit strident. The flat response is good for cleans, but lacks character when pushed into breakup.

The only 12's that I'd probably like better would be the Weber Silver Bell, Tone Tubby 40/40, and most of the Scumback line. But I'm tired of paying big bucks for something that I may not like, and I can buy a boatload of these MODs for what the competition costs.

12" 70 Watt 4ohm Ceramic Speaker made by Jensen/SICA, a pro audio manufacturer/distributor in Italy. It is a rebadged version of the European Jensen JCH 12-70 Chicago Speaker.

Sound Quality : 7
Well, with this speaker, there are two sides to the tone. I installed this speaker into an old Peavey Encore 65 (60W/4oms 3-12AX7/2-6L6GC). Note: The amp has a dark character with the stock speaker. First, the clean. Very crisp, bright tone. Midrange is not too overbearing at low volumes, and the speaker provides a very chimey clean experience. With this speaker installed, the amp did take-on a more bright character, however, there is not much headroom to be had with this speaker. It was braking-up at a relatively low volume, and I was having difficulty finding a loud, clean setting with the amp. Second part is the distortion. Wow! beautiful crunchy character, barking midrange, great bluesy, grinding tone when overdriven. At higher volumes the speaker did get "flubby", but it took a lot of power to do this.

Reliability : No Opinion
Have never had any problems with other Jensen/SICA speakers.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Have never had to deal with Jensen/SICA.

Overall Rating : 7
Basically, if you have a lower-power amp (less than 40W), are looking to brighten-up your tone, and enjoy a great midrangey grind at high volumes, then this speaker is definately for you. I would immagine that a lower-power amp would provide for better headroom, while still allowing you to enjoy the great overdrive characteristics of this speaker. But take note that this is not your normal Jensen "Chicago" type speaker. This speaker reacts completely different than the "Vintage" series, so Do Not expect to get vintage Jensen tone out of this speaker. The tone is still good, but it's different.

12", 4-, 8-, or 16-ohms (very practical assortment!), 22.5 oz. magnet, 8 mounting holes, and a 70 Watt power rating. Moderate to heavy doping. Nicely-rolled edges on the steel frame and glossy green paint add a luxurious touch. (Eminence and Celestion speaker frames don???t even feel this classy.) Performance per dollar is the biggest feature of this speaker-it's cheap and good.

Sound Quality : 8
and by "8" I mean "very good." I'm not gonna lie and say it's a perfect 10 (you know who you are, you H-C over-raters!), but it???s darn good.

This speaker has been in-and-out of my Peavey TransTube Studio Pro 112 solid-state amp, as I've been trying all sorts of different speakers over the last year. Somehow I always fell back to the MOD 12-70, as it always seemed to be more middle-of-the-road and more versatile than other speakers I'd try.

My amp does quite a good job of copping the blackface and/or JC-120 clean sound, as well as tweed, Marshall-y, and Mesa-like overdrives. All voicings are pretty good-the best from any S.S. amp I've heard and better than a lot of less-expensive tube amps. And the MOD 12-70 handles all of them very well.

Just as advertised, the MOD 12-70 sounds American on the clean channel, and British when overdriven. Cleans are warm and have a nice "bouncy" character to them on the lower strings. In overdrive, the speakers take on a typical British crunch. It is my understanding that this speaker is Jensen's response to the ubiquitous Celestion G12T-75, which is essentially Marshall's do-it-all 4x12 speaker. And from all that I've heard of both, I'd say they sound the same. The MOD 12-70 does seem to get a bit thin and edgy at very high volumes, but I'm pretty sure the G12T-75 does the same. Still not bad considering how inexpensive and versatile this speaker is.

Reliability : 10
I've never had a problem with the two MOD 12-70's or the one MOD 12-110 that I've owned. But then again, I don?'t trash my speakers, so what can really go wrong? The Jensen MOD speakers seem to be of high-quality craftsmanship, and the factory-packaging is simple (just a speaker in a box, no foam padding) but effective.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I've never had a need to contact Jensen; but hats off to TubeDepot.com for having a simple and effective website, as well as the best prices and fastest shipping around.

Overall Rating : 9
Considering its extremely affordable price and its capable and versatile performance, this speaker rates as excellent. Granted, I'll admit that I did eventually swap it out for an Eminence Red White & Blues (the RW&B doesn't sound the same, but I wanted to specifically tailor my tone). But if the Eminence wasn't as great sounding as it is, the MOD 12-70 would still be in my amp serving dutifully. Even still, you'd better believe I'm keeping the MOD 12-70 for a rainy day when I need a quality 12" speaker.

New Mod 70!

Sound Quality : 9
I run a 4 ohm Mod 70 in a 1x12 cab with a Bassman or Bandmaster head.
Since older Fenders usually have a 4 ohm load it's perfect.
Nice Midrange, not as good as the new Eminence speakers like
the Governor or Wizard, but better than a Vintage 30.

Reliability : 5
So far, so good.
I didn't have great luck with the Mod series 10" speakers.

I don't think there's any thing a company from Italy can do?

Overall Rating : No Opinion
I would like to hear these in a 4x12 cab with some Eminence Governors.
I think it would be a great match as long as the db's match close.
The fact that they make a 4 ohm 12" speaker is awesome. I don't like hauling around a 2x12 all of the time. If you have an older Fender which a lot of us do, you need the correct ohm load speaker/cab match.
I know it's OK to run a 8 ohm cab with a 4 ohm out on a tube Amp, but it can't be a good thing over the long-haul. I've got a home-built crap looking 1x12 cab that sounds incredible. I've recorded with it a bunch of times. This is one of the best sounding speakers I've ever loaded into it. You can find these for under $50 (new). I didn't buy it because of the price, I bought it because it was 4 ohm's.

For value & having ohm options how about a 10

They're good speakers for getting good tone out of any amp. They don't really color the sound too much. They have a bit of an upper midrange crunch when overdriven. The bass stays clear even at high volume and the trebles are not harsh. The frequency response is fairly balanced overall. Big bottom end without being boomy.

They have large ceramic magnets, can handle 70watts RMS and 140Watts peak. They have a strong frame with 8 mounting holes, twice that of Celestion.

Sound Quality : 10
WOW!!! is all I can say. I have not heard a better speaker at any price for giving a Fender clean and Marshall crunch. They have that real Jensen bark and clean sparkle. I use them in a 2X12 Marshall TSL122 and the punch and presence is fantastic. They are not at all harsh, not muddy, just beautifully balanced speakers. This amp really didn't have a nice clean tone, but now it is so much warmer and the lead channel is no longer muddy and undifined. I was going to get rid of this amp but now it actually sounds really great. I can't believe how good these speakers are.

It's a speaker. 12" 70 watts, ferrite magnet. The price might as well be a feature too, and it's a great feature.

Sound Quality : 10
I have a 60's or 70's Traynor YGM-3 112 all-tube Guitarmate Reverb amp (see other review). It's, from what I've read, about 18 watts with reverb, bass, treble, lo-hi inputs, and AWESOME tremolo. These amps are fairly desirable, mostly 'cause they sound fantastic, also 'cause you can find one pretty cheap, and they're built to drive a truck over. However, the same complaint is found over and over again--it's TOO BRIGHT!! With the stock speaker the bright switch is useless, and I could not turn the treble up past 2. Even then the highs hit your ears like a cryogenic dental tool. Plus, mine had a strange "buzz" that was NOT 60 cycle hum and NOT a rip or tear in the speaker, and nothing was loose. I was about to sell it on eBay when I thought "I'll try once to swap the speaker, but after that, I'm gonna get somethin' else"--enter the Jensen MOD. The amp excels at clean, somewhat Fendery, but gets nice overdrive (with a pedal) that's closer to a Vox-type sound (whatever that means. Basically, this speaker eliminated the "buzz", tightened up the highs, mids and lows, and, quite frankly, is the best aftermarket purchase I've made. I usually just sell the guitar, or sell the amp, and try something else, rather than switch pickups, switch speakers, buy hundreds of tubes etc. Now I feel like I have a new, much better amplifier, and you can't buy it. I can now turn the treble up to the 8-10 range and it's much more usable with many more wonderful tones. I also have a Lectrolab R500C (made by Valco/Supro)with a trult vintage Jensen C12R that's just awesome. But to buy just that speaker today would be over $100, and it also has a ceramic magnet, much smaller than this one. It works very well for that amp, but I'm considering replacing that with MOD as well. THIS SPEAKER IS AN EXCELLENT VALUE, especially for an amp similar to this setup. Warm when you need it, bright and chimey when you want it, a WAY more balanced sound than the stock Marsland speaker, and I can even use more of the reverb (another common complaint with this amp). If I could have tried it before I bought it I would have paid over $100 for it, if that was the price. But it's not. YAY!

Reliability : 9
It's a speaker. It seems very well constructed--much more "heavy-duty" than I expected for $60. It'll go a few hundred thousand miles. I've had it for a couple months, so we'll see. I can't imagine anything happening to it.

Customer Support : 9
Never dealt with them, but I can safely say I'm a Jensen man. Pretty much every amp I've played in stores that "spoke to me" (old Ampeg Jets, Supros, Delta Blues', Epiphone Pacemakers, Champs, etc.)--I'd fall in love, flip it around, and sure enough, a true vintage, vintage reissue, or other modern Jensen speaker was back there. I LOVE how they don't jack up the prices like Celestion and the "boutique" speaker company guys--products for people who have to work to live and superb quality, craftsmanship and TONE. To be fair, I almost tried one of the newer Eminence lines, but I couldn't decide 'cause there are so many--and most cost more than most Jensen models. A Jensen P12N was recommended, but at $120 at the cheap places, I took a gamble on this and could not be more pleased. YAY!

Overall Rating : 10
I'm gonna do it. It's a 10. Honestly. 60 American duckets for a well-constructed superb-sounding smooth, grindy, warm, bright 12" that does what you want, when you want? How could I not? YAY!

12 inch, 70 watts rms version of the Jensen Mod series. Model M12-70. 8 ohm. 8 screw holes to mount not like Celestion which have only 4.

Use with Es335, Les Paul and Strat using Marshall Plexi Reissue and Fender Bassman heads.

Clean is superbly balanced and very nice American sounding. Good bass response, very articulate sounding highs with nice mids.

Lightly overdriven they are a great blues speaker, and with high gain they turn crunchy and slightly British (funny that since they are supposed to have a hint of British).

By far the best speakers I have tried for letting the sound of an amp come through without overly coloring the sound too much, or if at all only in a good way.

Using my own hand built guitars. Mahogany bodies with symore duncans. Primary guitar is a strat body with SH-4 HB's. Amp is a Marshall VS265 that i use for my crunch sounds. Baught a pair of thee from ebay and couldent be hapier with the sound i built the cab for them. kept it closed back to keep the sound tight. I like the sound of these better then any speaker ie tryed to date (celestion 30's, celistion 75w, or any stock marshall speaker.) Great range on all frequencies and excellent mids. Absolutely the best for that marshall crunch. They sound good at both high and low volume but when there cranked up they nail the marshall brown sound. I would like to give greenbacks a try against these or maybe load greenbacks and these into the same cab wouldent that be interesting. My vs265 marshall has a real bad sounding clean channel is distortes when you go past 4 and even when turned up all the way isnt very loud maybe its just may amp. so i use an a/b ox into a princeton 65 fender with a mystery speaker in it. So no comment on the clean sound of the Jensen

Still brand new cant comment. but have know of other jensen speaker to last a long time. But who can predict when someone is gonna put a foot through the grill of a cab or a spontaniouse beer bath occures. these things happen.

Been playin for 8 years mostly clasic rock and some modern rock (the foo fighters greenday darkness) and am adicted to marshall crunch. These sound awsome being driven by a so so amp cant wait o hear them when i finally get something good. Marshall DSL or even 59 slp would probably be the holy grail for me. If i had more cash id probably turn my 2X12 into a 4x12 and load 2 more of these. for the price of these there is nothing better in my book. ROCK ON.

I have used these speakers in an old bandmaster 2X12 cabinet as replacements for the original Jensen C12N's which needed cones after 40 years. Jensen still make the C12N but I thought this model might be worth it for a try. Specially since I plan on running the cab with a JTM head!! The new MOD70 sounds beautifully balanced when clean unlike say some Celestion's G12T75 (no mids) or Vintage30 (all mids!) GB12's (no highs) I have tried.

Um, 40 years isn't bad.

These MOD's are pretty damned hard to beat all round for any MUSICAL style. I have tried other speakers with a variety of amps, and these are a great speaker series. I even swapped them out for some 70th Anniversary G12H but soon put them back again.

Clean, clear and articulare. Like an American tweedy clean sound almost typical early 60's Jensen until you crank the gain up which reveals a beautiful bit of British high gain raunch. They let your guitar and amp shine through without overly coloring the sound to the extreme like some other major speaker manufacturers models do.
