I was always skeptical that alnicos were really sweeter sounding than ceramics until I put this speaker into my amp. I thought maybe it was vintage purist wanting their amps to be exactly like they were made in the '50s. Of course, a speaker is only as good as its intended application, but for playing clean, blues and classic rock through a Fender tube amp - this speaker is the best to my ears. The best benefit for me is that because I play humbucking pickups, ceramic speakers often sound too heavy and solid for light chord work. The Jensen alnico is more of a singing type of speaker than hard punch. I'm sure it would not sound too terrific for aggressive rosk styles in a Marshall where you want that solid chuck on the low end. For my needs, it is spot on for versatility, warmth and the sweetest clean off of humbuckers I've heard. It loves pedals too.

This speaker is pricey and others argue that the highs are harsh. They aren't. I would say a comparable speaker would be the Weber 12A150 which is the same type of speaker.

Interesting this as I fitted it into My Rivera M60 (along with a new P12R in a Blues Junior at the same time). I dropped a screwdriver throught the cone of the stock Eminence and decided to replace it before it broke up on a gig. I rehearsed once and found it a little stiff and a bit edgy, took it to the next gig and enjoyed a lot of farting, burping, brittle sound for a cuple of hours - not good!
I went on the web and found a group that discussed these and learned that they need a good deal of bedding in - an understatement if there ever was one. After frequent gigging they started to show their full potential, sweet sound more evenly balanced than the eminenece (lots of highs and a mid-range hump). I think it is a very reponsive speaker, I tried a Celestion lead 80 for a couple of weeks and found that a bit of an ice-pick and totally 'tight'. I have run the Rivera through this speaker for about two years and would buy another when I drop a screwdriver through the cone

No worries so far - I tend not to run the Rivera full on so i stay below the rated output - I'm banking on them sandbagging that rating alightly.

I have played seriously for the past 5 years gigging about 25 times each year. I have a Tele and a Warmoth Tele/Strat hybrid - HSS. The Jensen especially brings out the sweet in between sounds and chorus. I have a Maxon Tubescreamer that sounds very 'hollow', I like that less and prefer the Boss Bluesdriver with Keeley mods (same circuit different voice). But I actually dont use the pedals much I prefer the straight Guitar Amp Audience connection.
