My model is a 1988 version. The settings are pretty basic with two channels, master volume and boost settings on the treble, mid and bass settings. It also has a presence control which compensates for any line loss and a basic reverb.

Sound Quality : 9
To be honest, there are more versatile amps on the market. The clean tone is fine, the reverb OK and the pull "boost" settings are great if boomy on the bass. However, from a great warm overdriven tone a la AC/DC through to a monstrous super saturated tone like George Lynch or Nuno's it really is hard to beat. For this alone you get a lot of bang for the buck. It responds brilliantly to high output pickups, maintaining their tone but really responding to the extra input.

Reliability : 10
I had it nineteen years before the transformer blew out. Replaced all the valves at the same time so all good.

Customer Support : 10
Never needed Laney BUT when I e-mailed them for advice on transformers I got it back in a day.

Overall Rating : 8
Been playing for thirty years. I use this as a practice amp and for club gigging. I know that there are more versatile amps around but for the money nothing comes close to it's overdriven tone. There isn't much I'd change in truth - I can sort that with a basic pedal board. In short, if you want an amp that overdrives like a god and you see one of these on e-bay, buy it.

This amp has pull-out switches for treble, mid and bass...huge sound difference. Reverb sucks. Pull out gain - AWSOME super over-drive distortion...you can get that Satrioni overdrive thing to happen. Presense control (almost useless) and rear effects loop. There is a footswitch jack for the reverb but not to switch channels. I bought this in 1984 before they sold out to Washburn and mine had the original Fane speaker.

Sound Quality : 8
Great distortion tones...this tube combo really cranks...I ran the spkr ext. through a Laney 4x12 cabinet and it took some edge off at high volumes. Way too noisy for studio. Lots of noise when not pumping sound through it. I was playing commercial metal and instrumental rock stuff. You won't find a better rehearsal amp for the buck if you like that overstuffed British rock tone. I had many offers to buy it off me back in the day.

Reliability : 10
No problem here...should have overheated after the way I cranked it for hours in the Texas heat but never let me down.

It was based in England when I bought the amp, so that wasn't a factor when I bought it.

I played this amp for 10 years. I've had racks and played Marshall, Boogie, Crate, Peavey, Fender, GK and Hafler. This little Laney combo holds it's own with distortion tones and volume. There was a day I would have bought another one if ripped off, but I don't find it versatile enough to do that now. I can't hang with no channel switching and all the white noise for live gigging. I've filtered the noise in the studio, playing a modified SG (w/ P.A.F. Les Paul pickup) and it sounded exactly like George Lynch's tone. I mostly played a Hammer w/ EMG's through it. Overall, if you need a great little practice amp that you could carry out for small gigs and don't have the bucks for a Boogie...this is you're ticket. P.S. use an external A/B switch to toggle b/w amps if you can.
