Features : 8
Made approx. 1996/7. 120 watt Solid State fitted with 2 x 12" HH Invader Speakers.
High and Low input sockets, only one works at a time' bit of a downer really . Two channels- Clean & Overdrive, with three band EQ, Gain and Reverb for each Channel. One Master volume. Channel switch on Overdrive Gain Knob.
Effects loop sockets in rear, unpluggable speaker socket & headphone jack, also in rear. Footswitch socket in front panel. I wish I had the footswitch but I bought the amp secondhand. I used all the features as I tend to play any style of music that I like the sound of, albeit mainly at home for my own pleasure. The amp volume is generally set to about 2 which is loud enough in my front room, although I have wound it up to 7 at the shop where I bought it and thought I had burst my ear drum, so you could say that it has got plenty of volume. The price of the amp first attracted me as I was originally looking for a small Tube amp, even so, this Solid State Laney gives me the sound I wanted with plenty of power to go gigging if I ever get good enough.

Sound Quality : 8
I use an Aria Strat copy Single Pick-ups and a Tele fitted with a KA Hot Rod Twin Rail Humbucker in the bridge. Both guitars perform well with the amp with only a moderate amount of crackle from the Aria (thats single coils for you).I relly want to try a Gibson LP or SG through it just for comparison.
The amp's clean sound is really bright and combined with the reverb gives a pleasing sound in all pick-up positions . The reverb is very controllable through the range. The overdrive range is vast and surprisingly warm for a solid state amp, although at low volume it is difficult to get sustain, but this amp wasn't really meant for low volume work. The Humbucker really works well with the amp, although I only fitted it two days ago and haven't had a chance to really put it through its paces. The amp suits my liking of Blues, Seventies Rock, and good old Rock and Roll.

Reliability : 9
I have taken this amp on the road when jamming with a few friends. Its very sturdy and heavy, you wouldn't want to carry it too far by yourself. The HH invader speakers are well protected behind a press metal grille, which looks like it could withstand a severe kicking.

I haven't dealt with them yet. But will in the near future just to see if I can get a footswitch & manual

I have been playing acoustic guitars on and off six years, and electric for 7 months, so still new to amplification. I started with a Marshall G10 Mk2 which was too puny with really no controls and all I was really looking for was an amp with good Clean and Distorted sound
with reverb and a wide ranging Overdrive

Well i must say it has all the bells and whistles. A smooth chorus, 2 channels, hi-low input, and reverb. They complement eachother petty well. I dont think that anybody can really ask for more in an amp. Unless you get one of thoes cheesy amps with a multi efect built in.

The clean setting is good. No more no less. Although im getting some help from 3 EMG active single coils with 2 independent tone boosts. That MIGHT help. It is just lacking some guts. It is smooth and rich until to stop babying it and play like a man (or woman). The overdrive is very diverse. I can get that , well for lack of a better term, "thin" Cream bluse bite all the way through to the kick in the chest, make your parents angry, plam mutted, distortion. However the overdrive, which should not be confused with distortion, channel lacks the low end that i sometimes binge on. I am going to have to go with an 8 on this one, she's no VOX or marshall but still good enough to be mine.

Ok I bought this believeing tha is was sturdy. After about 5 months of the road (just 2 gigs a week) two of the processing boards had cracked, several soders went, and i needed a voice coil. Whats up with that?! Luckly i am in good with the local guitar shop adn i got it done for free. Besdies that this thing s built SOLID. THe metal grille is a life saver when you have help that isnt the best. and you could jack your car up slide this under it and not worry about it. HOwever she is a ton of bricks to carry around

Never talk ed with the manufacturer. It didnt even come with a manual. SO there went my warrenty, and i cant find any AUTHORIZED repair but my locat guitar shop is probably better anyway.

Overall Rating : 10
Its a good amp. Loud as any other combo i have heard. But above 5 or 6 it just seems to boots that annoying 12k frequency and nothing else. Overall i like it. BUt far a big tour this is not your apm.

One of the reasons I bought this amp was because the features were precisely what I was looking for. Solid state, 2 twelve-inch speakers, hi and lo gain inputs, bass, mid, treble, and reverb for both channels, stereo effects loop, stereo chorus (rate and depth control), master volume, headphone jack, stereo lines out, pedal for channel switching, chorus and reverb on/off buttons, and pedal switching for chorus and reverb also. It's a complete package.

I play a Carvin DC127 with DiMarzio humbuckers (PAF Pro - neck and FRED - bridge) My styles include hard rock, progressive rock, pop, and a little C&W. This amp is very quiet and versatile. I can get a realistic tube sound from the torroidal transformer (really) and a pretty good british stack sound when it's cranked. The clean channel is just that, and warm, and I can't make it distort. The distorted channel has plenty of gain for me, and the amp is definitely LOUD. The stereo chorus is adequate, but loses out slightly to the chorus found on Fender Princeton or Ultimate chorus amps. I'd like to have a more distinct effect for a "stereo amp." I would think this amp would work well for grunge, but only passable for metal, because the high e.q. doesn't dial in as much as I think it should. I wish it had a presence control for times when I wanted more bite, and less smooth distortion.

I've had the amp for about 6 months, and it has seen moderate use and travel. Everything about it screams quality though. Metal grill, solid construction, great "knob feel," and it's pretty heavy (approximately 55 pounds?). It makes a loud thump when I turn it on or off (capacitor discharge?). My hunch is I won't need a backup as long as I watch out for falling elephants.

Laney is a british outfit, and I haven't had any experience with them or the local retailer.

I've played seriously for about 20 years, although the first ten years was primarily acoustic. I compared the Laney with Peaveys, Crates, and Fenders. I'm not enamored enough with tube sounds to mess with lower reliability and higher operating cost (buying tubes) so I didn't consider Marshalls, Mesa/Boogies, etc. The Laney had the best mock tube sound and the best features I could find. I would buy it again, but I do plan to get some outboard effects to compliment it. I lingered over the Fender solid state amps because of their great chorus and "rockman" distortion sound (I admit it... I liked the 80's), but the Laney seemed more solid, and had line out features for studio use.
