Amp was made in 2009. Got a laugh out of the serial ### actually. Says "MIA" lol.
The amp is quite versatile in the styles I play, and in the ones I don't. You can get pretty much whatever sound you need out of these beast of a machine. I play rock, hard rock and some metal. It working pro for all 3. I don't know about huge NU or death metal tones.. but it sits in with the best of them. Single channel amp. Effects loop. Bright, Bass and resonance switch. Wish it had some sort of footswitchable channel from clean to OD. But it's a single channel amp... all you can do it turn down the volume on your guitar. I use the amp in my bedroom for right now. The thing has an emence amount of power... I can set it on 2 on the dial... anymore and I have to wear ear plugs or be in the other room
100 watt tube amp. Single Channel that will tear your ****** head off with volume and its tone.

I use an SG, LP style ESP, and a PRS SE Custom. Stock pickups in them all. Suits my style of music very well. It can be noisy when your up close to it. Other than that... you do get alot of buzzing when the gain is maxed. No real harmonic feedback though. Amp can do pretty much whatever you want. The clean channel or "lo output jack channel" is alright. Can get a nice crisp clean. Also some blues OD type. You can overdrive the cleans at higher volumes... maybe at 4-5 on the dial. Distortion is quite brutalz. Not huge death metal brutalz... but it's quite good lol.

Ive only had this thing for a month.... but I would use this at a gig, night after night if I was in a band. Solid as a rock (at 53 pounds). Never broken down. It should anyway.. it's a Laney, made in the UK lol. But even if it does. has a 3-5 year warranty.

Never dealt with them yet. And I expect I wont have to for a long time. Laney is the ****!. No repairs or replacement parts or anything has been done to the amp. 2-3-5 year warranty I am guessing. It didn't come with a warranty card oddly..

Been playing for 5 years. Only other amp I own is a peavey valveking 1x12 and also a little crate practice amp. If it were lost or stolen.. I would buy another, just cause of the tone to dollar ratio. Awesome amp. I like the simplicity of the single channel... but I also kind of dislike it. I wish it had some sort of clean channel by itself. But then again.. it is the Tony Iommi signature amp. Made for metal. I didn't do a sound comparison on it cause no one suplies Laney in town here. But when I was making my choice for an amp... I was looking at a Hughes & Kettner Switchblade... and this Laney GH100TI. I wanted just simple amp.. for an AC/DC, judas priest type hard rock tone. So I chose the Laney :) and it was a good one. Though if I might add to the people reading this. The Hughes & Kettner Triamp and switchblade are both awesome amps. Great chunky tone.

this amp is a Metal Tone Machine !
it took several hours of tweaking , but i dialed in "my" killer tone and couldnt be happier.
if you are looking for multi channel versatility , look elswhere ..
BUT if you are looking for a single channel , high gain Metal Machine then the Laney GH100TI is well worth checking into.
the slave in/out feature is fantastic.
the effects loop options are fantastic.
oh yea ... the speaker cabinet options are fantastic too.
if this amp had a boost on/off switch or effects loop on/off switch , or a clean channel i would have rated this a "10"
so the "8" i give it is as high as i can rate a single channel amp.

i use this amp with many different guitar / pickup combinations.
my favorites are :
- Charvel Model 6 with a Duncan Metal LiveWire in the bridge , and a Classic in the neck.
- Ibanez RGT42DXFM with a pair of Ibanez V5 pickups.
- Gibson SG I with a Gibson Dirty Fingers.
- Charvel Model 6 with a Jackson J95 in the bridge ... the active mid boost system works well with the GH100TI.
- Epiphone Iommi SG
these guitars all SCREAM through the Laney GH100TI .
this amp loves high output pickups ... they are a match made in Heaven ( or is that Hell ? )

if this amp were stolen i would have to buy another one.
there is nothing i hate about the GH100TI , it does what it is intended to do.
bottom line : this is a killer amp for hard rock and heavy metal.

Very powerful, but a bit of a one trick pony. Takes ages to get a half decent clean sound, and even once it's there, it's got a lot of hiss. Even the dirty sound isn't that great, if you ask me, but I suppose for classic rock/metal it's probably okay.

I found it to be very noisy and not really suited to the style of music I play (death metal). However, the tubes give it some fat, warm bottom end. It sounds much better cranked up high.

I was playing an ESP MH-100QMNT through this, and using the Tommy Iomi box to go with it. As I said, it's not too bad of a sound if you're after a straight ahead, no questions dirty sound for classic rock. But if you're after versatility, give this one a miss. I know I will.

I got this thing about three years ago. It's the same amp as what everyone else is reviewing here. Versatility? You find a good tone and get the versatility from outside this amp (stomp boxes, guitars). I did find myself touching the amp settings during a jam to get different tones. Single channel, high (metal)/low (rockier) inputs, and an effects loop which I've never used. Plenty loud.

You can pretty much go from a mid 70s AC/DC sound to a razor sharp modern distortion sound. There's lots of gain to take the amp into random squealing and feedback if you are a player that thinks, "if less is more, just think how much MORE, more would be!" In between you, of course, get the chunky old Sabbath or Fu Manchu sound. It may go cleaner than that but I don't usually worry about totally clean sounds with a closed back cabinet and a head designed by Tony Iommi. Right now, I use several humbucker equipped guitars from the Les Paul mode and sound great with rhythm. Leads are not as fluid as on my 5150 or, oddly enough, my Laney VC30 which has way less gain. There's not as much sustain and you must be pretty accurate, unless you decide to go into total feedback distortion territory. Must say though that the tone is the most erratic of all the tube amps I've ever owned. Half the time I wasn't happy with the tone and, usually near the end of a long jam and when this thing has heated up the whole room (it runs SO hot), it sounded great and I thought it was the best amp I owned. Unfortunately, these times were too far and few between.

This thing is not very reliable. I've recently traded it off for these reasons.
The first one I got (through an internet store) electrocuted me when I turned it on and howled like a b**ch. I took it in to an amp tech I trust and same thing happened. I had to turn it off with a wooden spoon!
The second one was fine but still too erratic to trust. I bought it to be my backup and main rehearsal amp (it would sit in my buddies garage). Once in a while, it would crackle (not the cords, I checked) and then it recently started howling like a bi*ch, too. Even after unplugging the guitar and zeroing ALL knobs on the amp it howled. It was related to the heat level of the amp as, when I tried it the next day, it worked OK. This was the perfect opportunity to trade it off while it still worked! I'd never trust it to gig or even want it as a backup because of these issues.
Sorry Laney, I love your amps but this one hasn't worked for me.

Had some e-mail contact regarding this amp and they got back to me quickly and with decent info. They seemed about the same as any other company where you can't actually drive over and harrass them. A lot depends on the quality of your dealer.

I've played for twenty years now (can't believe it!) and I'm 35. I still do the weekend warrior thing when I can but have been spending more time in a recording studio and writing tunes than playing beer commercial music lately. I have only ever played in a one guitar band. I usually use a GMP or a Gibson Les Paul as they have stop tailpieces so they don't go out of tune when I break a string and they suit the louder hard rock I tend to like. I play through a 5150II as my main amp but also use a Laney VC30 combo. I don't use effects live except for maybe a wah or something. In the studio, I use what I must to sound decent (a crap sound may be just what's needed to cut through a mix).
I have since traded the GH100ti off on an Orange ADHTC and am looking forward to playing that. The GH100ti had a great sound when everything was right, but I often found myself working too hard to find a sweet spot. Needless to say, this should not be a problem when an amp is as basic as this one! That said, I would have preferred to keep this amp if it had worked reliably!

sabbath! thats the only thing it can conjure. i play in a classic speed metal band. im just spending money wildly and trying out new amps, trying to see if anything is better than my modded JSX...so far, no. you like big, sludgy, muddy, fat, tone? well this is it. its dead on like sabbaths tone. think sabbaths first album, and their last (with ozzy). and it nails that "jonny blade" tone. terrible for palm muting. harmonics sound GREAT with this head. pinch into high heaven! very fat for leads. but just TOO muddy. i tried cleaning it up with a tubescreamer, and no avail...this thing is just one tone-sabbath. if thats what you want, this is IT. but i can why not very many metal heads are endorsed by laney. stick to my peaveys and marshalls, thank you very much.

I bought a brand new 05 Laney. It is a pretty simple amp, almost harkens back to the era of non master volume amps. Two inputs, one channel, 3 Band Eq, Master, Gain, Presence, Bright switch and Bass switch. As far as loops and ect, theres a single loop with a switchable side chain, slave, and insert. It does an amazing job at what i play (think Crowbar, EHG) I wouldnt recommend this to someone who is used to the numerous loops and options of lets say, a Triple Rectifier but for someone who wants to plug and play. Like myself. But by no means is the amp limited, but just not super versatile. As far as power, the amp gets really loud around 3 and then tone start to come out well around there. Pretty basic setup in the guts, 4 Power Tubes (El34) and 4 Preamp Tubes (ECC83).

I use a 00 Standard SG with stock pickups. Just running the amp straight from the guitar doesnt get enough gain for my sound so I use any old pedal as a clean boost (ie, maxing out the volume with little to nothing gain on the pedal). This really drives the preamp hard enuf to get the sound i want. I love the sound, really raw and really heavy. Kinda somewhere in a more saturated Sabbath sound. The amp is relatively quite for a tube amp without the clean boost but once i kick that in the noise starts to come out but i like the noise. Its just part of the amp. But for those anti-noise a simple compressor/gate setup before the amp can solve that problem easily. The clean channel is alrite. I dont use it but you can get some good sounds using the tone switches and getting a good reverb unit or a modulation pedal. The clean has some good headroom but distorts around 5 or so.

Anyone looking for the sludgy, doomy sound shouldnt be disappointed but others be wary.

I bought this used at guitar center althoug it looks brand new. You don't buy this amp for the featrures as there are not that many. The brught, resonace, and bass switches however, can be effective in sculpting your tone. Many speaker out configurations on the back panel. Slave outs as well.

I have found my dream distortion. I'm using this amp with a Gibson Custom Shop Iommi SG. This amp is all about the distortion. I would never use any type of distortion or overdive pedal with this. However, being that there is no reverb you might need alittle something on that front. I use a Boss digital delay pedal just for leads.
There is no perceivable hum from the amp but at high volumes, such as 4 and 5, and believe me, on this amp these are HIGH volumes you will get squeal in the time between turning your guitar up and hitting that first chord. But that could be fxed easily enough wtih a noise suppressor.
I play classic metal such as Sabbath, Priest, Maiden, Dio and Metallica. This amp is PERFECT for the first four. For Metallica you'll have to eq it a little bit but ther eis plenty of gain. I keep the gain on 6 while playing most forms of metal so there's more there if I need it.
Its only one channel. It would be nice to just hit a footswitch and go from clean to crunch but unless you use a splitter to a nother head set up for clean its not gonna happen. However, it does clean up okay when you roll back on your volume. This is especially true if you have it loud.
I'm getting excellent sustain both above and below the twelfth fret and pinched harmonic squeals are working great. I love the distortion on this amp and I'm happy to sacrifice channels or whatever else to get it.

Overall, to me, amps are about distortion and tone as I like to rely solely on my amp for distortion. So I will overlook there only being one channel, no footswitch, and the squeal I'm getting and say that I am happy I got rid of my Marshall dsl50 for this head. I love the tone. Great purchase. You will find amps with more versatility in this price range but you will NOT find an amp with a better distorted tone than this for the money.

LANEY GH100TI (Tony Iommi)100 Watt Head. One channel plug & Play Amp with 6 chicken-head knobs, high and low inputs, 3 switches for resonance, bright and bass. Can use either EL34 (stock) or 6L6 power tubes. Effects loop with 3 settings (slave=parallel, input=series or bypass). I give the Amp a 8 because I would have much preferred another Loop seperating the parallel and series. No reverb but a simple Digitech DigiVerb is beneficial.

This thing is terrifyingly LOUD!
I currently have it hooked up to a THD Hotplate and a 2x12 loaded with Celestion V30s. I play mostly Custom Fat, double and Triple Fat Strats with Duncan Distortion or JB or DiMarzio FRED as bridge PUs.
Loop Boss GE-10 > BBE Sonic Max.481i
Full rig available in the front but I'm currenly only using DigiVerb, a Sniper GE-7 (occasional mid boost) and a MxR Wylde Overdrive and a Clean Boost (recap some lost treble for a big rig).
1) Gotta love single channel amps ~ plug, dime and play.
2) Incredibly quiet.
3) The distortion isn't that mounsterous but I will NOT need any extra dirt boxes. Typical EL34 Grit.
4) A Sonic Max. or an EQ in the the loop is your best friend. Only amp that I've played that didn't get a huge crunch increase from an EQ in the loop (just doesn't need it).
5) Heavy as hell .. 53 pounds.
6) Not as sludgy as I though it would be but with gain at 6 and Master at 5 with Hotplate is like a fatter/thicker JCM 800.
7) The Clean channel is usuable for a bluesy tone as long as you know how to use a 1 channel amp.
It does sound awesome and what you would expect from a heavier version of a EL34 amp.

I have been playing for 18 years. I have enjoyed every amp in the Marshall line except the the newer DSL/TSLs (no Marshall grit). I usually go for another amp every 3-4 years and this time I was looking for a darker heavier tone. Basically, was not ready to spend for a Bogner or a Soldano SLO and being a huge Iommi fan for decades this amp seems like a no brainer. The extra dollars saved for a Bogner or Soldano is a bonus. If it were stolen I'd get another ... it delivers and did not disappoint and that's why the 10 rating.

I use a couple of strats with hot humbuckers in the bridge, esp Les Paul, Jackson Kelly. The gain in this amp is slugish to me, very "mushy" in nature. I also have a 5150 II head and Triple X head and both of them blow this away in terms of overall sound and quality hi-gain tones. However, I don't want it to sound like I am totally dissing the amp because it is another beast. I am playing it through a 5150 Cab. To my ears it sound like an old orange or marshall with the tubes about to blow. U can get some decent Marshall-ish tones out of it, but the sustain is not there. I wish there was some way to tighten up the pre-amp on this thing. I emailed Laney about it and they said this could not be done. To be fair this thing is LOUD and I have never really opened it up, so it is hard to say what type of tone is to be had when the power tubes clip, but the pre-amp gain is not very focused.

Been playing around 15 years and doing some studio work along side with band projects. I think for the money this is a good value on a tube head and for the right kind of music this thing would be great, but the hi-gain sounds from Peavey or Mesa are much more suited to my taste. I would recommed playing through one first before purchasing one.

frankly, i wish i didn't get rid of this. i started to get into home recording and quit my last band, so i traded my half stack on a boss gt3 and some other stuff. now that i'm getting that itch to play with a band again, nothing else will do. i have an arsenal of jackson kelly's with emg81's in the bridge slot. i play everything from frank zappa-esque oddities to anthrax-type thrash. this amp's got me covered. great focus in the distortion. not soldano, but great in it's own right. my rig is simplicity defined. jackson kelly w/emg81 -> monster cable -> boss volume pedal (w/lowest volume set for fairly clean and wide open set on stun) -> amp -> morley bad horsie wah in efx loop (gets better sound than if used before gain in my opinion).

This is a brand new LANEY GH100TI (Tony Iommi) 100 Watt Head. It is basically a one channel no-frills amp with 6 chicken-head knobs, high and low input jacks and 3 switches (resonance, bright and bass) which alter the sound a bit. I'll get into that later. Here are some other cool features on this amp that are worth mentioning:
- Slave in-out jacks on back
- Can use either EL34 (stock) or 6L6 power tubes
- Effects loop with 3 settings (slave, input or bypass)
- A total of 5 speaker outs (One 1x16 Ohm , two 2x16 ohm and two 2x8 ohm) (The 2x jacks can also be used mono as 1x4 or 1x8)
The front panel looks real cool because it is a mirror finish. Tony Iommi's signature is written really small in black under the input jacks. The cool thing is that is doesn't distract from the look of the amp. You can't even notice it. The plain white "LANEY" nameplate is on the front also. The amp looks really deceiving because at first glance it just looks like a plain tube amp. People probably don't realize this probably the best deal out there on a tube amp head.
I would have liked to have had a reverb of some type on this head but I know different people like different types, etc. Also, it would have been nice to have a footswitchable setup of some kind to go from clean to high gain, etc. I guess this is Tony Iommi's head so beggers can't be choosers.
I bought this amp at Easy Music Center in Hawaii. I am stationed in Hawaii and it is hard to get certain brands, etc. here. Alot of times if you want a specific piece of equipment you feel like you have to snag it before someone else buys it. That is what I did with this amp. One of the only LANEY dealers on the island (who actually carries the amps), Easy Music Center, had one Laney Combo and then the GH100TI head. I probably have the only GH100TI Head on the entire island.
Just a quick note. I had no intention of buying an amp before I entered the music store. I have just been doing home recording into a LINE 6 POD 2.3 and was content with that. Then I saw the GH100TI and things changed....:)

I play a Gibson Gothic Explorer with stock pickups (500T in bridge and 496 I believe in neck) strung with 10-46 D'Addario's. I am currently using no effects, just straight into the head.
Let me just say this first. If you gig you better tell everyone to get earplugs when you play through this. This thing was built for stadiums.
This crunch on this amp is fantastic! Even at bedroom levels, the gain is very usable and the amp sounds great. This amp can achieve many sounds and even does clean very good. By plugging into the low gain input, I get some very nice clean sounds. If you are reading this review though you are probably more interested in the high gain since it is a Tony Iommi product.
I have had some people ask me if it is more the Mesa or Marshall direction and I have to say that I think it is a little of both. It is definitely it's own monster. If I cut the mids all the way and crank the gain, I can't get a very Godsmack type of sound. If I have the gain at about the 2:00 position and have the mids at 12:00, I get a great ACDC type of sound.
Now, as far as the 3 switches (resonance, bright and bass) they actually affect the sound quite a bit. The resonance puts the sound more "in your face" and really improves the sound. The bright switch seems to help with definition of notes, etc. and for me it seems to give the amp more "chug". The bass switch is interesting because it muddies things up a bit, but for a good sound. I would say that the bass switch is good at taking a Godsmack type of sound and turning it into a Black Sabbath or Soundgarden type of sound. It is not overwhelming, but you do notice it.
This amp is super loud. People were serious when they said that. I believe I could play gigs with the master volume on 2 or 3 on the knob, easy. The power overwhelms you when you first turn it up. Trust me though, you can play at bedroom levels when you have to and it sounds great. This amp has 5 gain stages so the great sound is there (not as great as cranked obviously) at low volumes.
I have considered buying a power attenuator (THD perhaps) but will probably hold off for now. I might get a BOSS SD-1 pedal to boost it a bit so I can hear tubes pushed at lower volume, but I don't think anyone would need any kind of distortion pedal for this. Very brutal gain on this thing.
The amp does not seem noisy to me. I am getting some pickup "honk" at high power and high gain but I definitely think it is the pickup and not the amp.
I owned a Dual Rectifer and Single Rectifer and love this amp waaaay better. More gain at a lower volume.

Tony Iommi actually uses this exact amp head for his live sound. The amp feels sturdy, tough and roadworthy. They seem very well made and I am impressed. Nothing sounds or feels loose. I am currently not gigging, but If I were I would just bring some backup tubes, fuses, etc. I don't anticipate any problems with this thing.

I like LANEY's amps and I have not had to deal with their customer support, but I imagine it sucks. Here's why. Their website has absolutely NO phone numbers, email addresses, fax numbers, etc. NOTHING! There is no way to ask questions, get help, etc. It would be frustrating to get assistance.
On a positive note, they do have downloadable copies of their user manuals which is good. On the negative side, with all of the technology, etc. these days why not throw soundclips of your product up there? They need to follow TECH 21's lead. Those guys have customer service down.

This is one of the best deals around honestly. Marshall solid state AVT heads cost the same as I paid for this 100 watt tube head! There is no better deal for a tube head anywhere. Soldano stuff is up at around $3000, Marshall and Mesa start over $1000. The price of this is just insane!

I use this amp as a power amp and a backup head,,I run a Bogner Uberschall full stack with the matching =X= cabs i run a slave out to the slave in of the Laney that is hooked up to another 4x12,,,I love the presance on this amp. I just like the sound I think you can nail almost every SABBATH album with this amp.. It really sounds like Heven and Hell,,,,the gain goes higher than that thoug. you can get even mesa boogie sounds like Master,,,,,I like my Uberschall a lot more but I tell Ya this is a great amp for the $$,,,,,

made in 2002. Amazing. Lets simply leave it at that. No reverb. If you need reverb to fill in your mistakes then you just need more practice. Channel switching would be nice but i use it in conjunction with my Laney VH100R head. I use the VH100R for everything except solos and really heavy rhythms, and sometimes the solos too (blues solo, some metal solos). So I use the Tony Iommi as my "Overdrive" pedal so to speak. It does one thing and it does it great. Tone is a feature and this amp has great features. I use a Jackson Kelly with a Bill Lawrence L-500XL in the bridge

oh shit this amp is god. The el 34's are great. they make lead playing a dream come true. haha. anyway i would put them in the vh100r but i get two completely different sounds this way so its cool. The fact that this is permanently on the 5th gain stage would be cooler if it could go from 4th to 5th like the GH100. Whatever. It has high gain mods, put up next to another laney you can tell. And my VH100R has pretty brutal distortion. Well nothing is brutal compared to this. Also this head will make you better. The fact that its distortion is so clear, u will hear your mistakes and then learn to correct them. That way in a year or so youll be playing like Alan Holdsworth or Steve Vai. The VH100R is a better amp in terms of versatility and i guess value because it is 4 channels, but this has WAYYYYY better distortion. The clarity is still every bit there on the vh as on the ti though.

I love it. Playing for 3 years. Ive had a Mesa Triple Recto. Then I played a Used laney at Sam Ash and haddddd to find one. It is the difference between me being a good guitarist and me not. The mesa covers up mistakes, which can be good, but not if you want to become Paul Gilbert or something equally as good.

Excellent, and different. If used correctly it can go from clean to wide ass open. You just have to use the right pedals to achieve this. Besides, nobody would buy this amp with the thought of ever using it clean. I set the gain of the amp on 1 and use a combo of clean boost and overdrive pedals to achieve slighty dirty up to make your ears bleed distortion.

Only had it for six months. It seems to be built well. I did add two small fans for cooling. If you do this use 220v fans. They will spin slower than a 120v fan, thus making them very quiet.

Sucks ass! They only have the manuals to their amps on their website to be downloaded. But guess what, you can download the manual to every amp they sell, plus discontinued amps, but the Tony Iommi is not listed. I'm just trying to find out what the amp rating is on the fuses so I can buy some spare ones. You are at the mercy of their dealers. No Laney contact # or email.

I've been playing bass and guitar for 18yrs. I heard and used alot of gear during that time. This amp is not for everyone. If you want the Mesa/BooBoo sound, buy a Mesa. If you want a Marshall sound, buy a Marshall. If you want a............buy it.
If you lose something this big and heavy, you're a moron. I never leave my music stuff unattended or in a place thats not secure, plus I have an itchy trigger finger. But, if for some reason it got 5 finger discounted, I would buy another one with the insurance money.

This head made 1997, 100W tube amp, multiple impedance speaker outs, FXloop, master/slave for chaining heads together - cool feature. Lets you set your tone on one head and use the other amp's power sections for more volume. Why you'd want more than one of these things working at the same time is beyond me. Loudest amp I ever heard! On the fron pane, you've got a resonance switch (for added "chug") presence, bass middle, treble, master, gain (controls 5 permanent gain stages), and bright and bass switches. My only gripe is that there is no channel switch. You have to plug your guitar into either the Lo or Hi input to change between clean/dirty respectively.

Using quite a few guitars with this head: Washburn Dime333, Epi Les Paul and a Kramer Baretta (all humbuckers). I play mostly metal (Metallica, Pantera, Creed, Megadeth, Sabbath*surprise!* etc)and some blues. This amp's distortion is frankly amazing. Without any effex can pull off Metallica's "Black" album tone, the fizzy pantera distortion, muddy Sabbath and so on. It also does well with Nu-Metal tones. Plugging the guitar into the Lo input gives some nice, warm clean sounds, and upping the gain gets great crunch tones, too. It's a bit noisy when cranked, but no more so than any other amp. There's not too much clean headroom, but that's not really what this amp's about. In short, very versatile, and as someone else here pointed out, the distortion easily beats Marshall and Boogie in my opinion.

I've been playing about 3 years now, and also own 2 Marshall heads (A JCM 900 and a VS8100), and a Roland BC-60. This is easily my best amp, and the only one of the lot I'd replace with the same if it was stolen. In fact, if my Marshalls were stolen, I'd probably just get another of these to replace them.

This amp is a 2001 model which is no different from the others as it is a signiture amp. TI standing for Tony Iommi. This amp the way i use it is only as a power amp for my pod. But on it's own it has an intensly powerful distortion which i sometimes use for a lot of the metal songs that we play. It only has one channel and is in permanent hi gain setting, which is good if ur the rhythm guitarist in a heavy metal band. But if u need multi channels e.g clean, rhythm, lead then i recommend one of the other Laneys either the VH100 or the GH100 as these are both ultimately versatile great sounding pieces of quality gear which are worth a try. My pod handles channel switching etc. This amp is all tube with 6 12AX7 pre-amp tubes and 4 EL34 power amp tubes which are switchable to 5881's if need be. This amp has a resonance switch which is a very handy tool as it dampens the power amp section for tighter bass response and it doesnt resonate the sound so much, in other words the sound is super tight. It also features a bass and treble switch to boost both these frequencies, very affective. The reason i bought this amp is because it was fairly cheap and did exactly what i wanted it to do, act like a power amp, as power amps are F'in expensive i.e Mesa Boogie 90/90 #1000 approx no thanks!! This amp has recorded 1 album and a large number of live shows. It has balls of power and with my two matching laney 4*12's it looks and sounds the biz. In the future i intend to buy another head to make full use of the pod's stereo mode and have two laney half stacks and the pod. Quality!!!! The reason i gave it six is coz it's only got 1 channel.

I have an Ibanez RG470, BC Rich Jr.V and an ESP les paul style with active EMG 81 pickups on all guitars. My BC and ESP are used for the majority of songs, i am the lead guitarist in the band the Ibanez is only used for songs with intense solos in thats y it has a whammy bar. This amp is as quiet as a mouse no hiss and very limited hum which can't be detected by mics. I have no use for the amps settings but i use the amps resonance switch, that is a quality feature. If imagine a band like linkin park or papa roach and combine with the sound of metallica but with the mid range of GNR then your not far off of how it sounds.

the gh100ti has one channel, effects loop, and some other choices in the back.havent really looked into using them since i mainly go direct with my zoom 3030 effects pedal. its pretty easy to eq and get the sound you want(other than full on distortion) considering that this was primarily built for all out metal.

this is my first half stack that i have bought although ive tested out a marshall and it sounded like shit(at the time i tested the marshall i didnt eq it to my liking)so theyre probably still good amps (no offense toward marshall)since they've been around for awhile)
this amp head has the best sounding distortion ive heard yet in an amp head. the el34 tubes help make that possible along with the other internal parts. tony iommi and laney really made a great amp head this time around.i play through a zoom 3030 directly and have the channel set to clean so i can use the zoom distortion but if your not the type who likes processors then just go with the alternative. WARNING: THIS AMP HEAD IS AMAZINGLY LOUD!!!!!!!!,the cabinet really compliments the head in this case.

I play hard rock and use a hollow bodied es335 copy, and this thing just sounds amazing. It is an insanely loud amp, but part of this is because it just sounds so good at low volume. On mose amps to get a really crucnhcine tone you need to crank the gain and the master, but on this one it doesn't need much prodding. Yu don't have to spend to much time dialing in a good sound, it's kind of line a dual rectifier in that it always sounds good. I feel like if I maxed this thing out it would be unbelievably loud. Eseentially, if you are a hard rock guitarist and are looking for an alternative to that lame hollwoed out over saturated "nu" metal amp sound that is so popular today, this is the amp to get.

THis is an amp you have to hunt down - there are very few laney dealers. If you go to their website they list them in your area. Several people who have heard this amp have made their own trek to go buy one. It just sounds that good. While the older AOR laneys have that vintage Hiwatt sound, this one is a nice mix of a Rectifier head and a Marshall head, while (in my opinion) sounding way better than both fo those. The distortion is not as thin and ratty sounding, and any palm muting results in earth shaking rumble and crunch. If you play hard rock music, this may be just the amp you have been looking for!

This amp is unbelievable. GH100 TI was designed for Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath. It is very simple - 100 watt single channel with effect loop. Hi and Lo input and only six knobs - Presence, Treble, Middle, Bass, Volume and 5 permanent stages of Gain. Also has switch for resonance, bright and bass. WARNING - this amp is extremely loud and has the finest gain I've ever experienced (and I've used Marshall all my life). Perfect for all you shredders out there or, like myself, in a Black Sabbath Tribute Band! Extremely versatile for the heavy metaler. Use this amp in small and large venues. Example - small venues my master volume seldom reached 2 (out of 10) and gain seldom reached 4 (out of 10). What I find particularly attractive about the GH100TI is the clarity and tone - even in high gain conditions.

I'm running the GH100TI with a Tony Iommi Signature Series Gibson SG Standard (Ebony) outfitted with the Tony Iommi Signature Series Pickup (Humbuckers) with an occassional chorus and/or wah pedal depending on the circumstances. The amp can be noisy particularly if the bright and resonance switches are employed. With all due respect, the distortion will likely send Marshall, Mesa Boogie, etc. back to the drawing board. Simply great distortion with plenty of clarity and tone.

As I've just purchased the amp, can't really comment on reliability. However, the gentleman I bought the amp from tells me he uses a Laney GH100L I believe and never had a problem. From the looks of it, however, it is ruggedly built and appears fairly simple to service.

I've been playing Black Sabbath religiously for 20+ years and was thrilled to get hold of the GH100TI and accessories. Had been using Gibson Les Pauls and Marshalls (which are also fine). Would definitely purchase another. I think the Laney has one up on Marshall (in terms of gain, anyhow - because they appear to have been able to provide clarity, tone, and low end) something I think the Marshall has lacked (I've used the JCM900 Hi Gain for years) and it's ok. GH100TI strongly recommended for Sabbath Tribute types or balls to the wall metal people.
