This is an update to my previous review (Circio). If your looking for a great 1x12 cabinet to match the GH 120 head, I got the Epiphone Valve Junior cab at Musicians Friend for $149 with shipping. It matches this head perfectly as the cab has an Eminence speaker and has a nice low end.

I downloaded the manual from Laney and these amps were made in 1994. Laney may of made them for only a couple of years because they are rare. Two channels. Reverb control for each channel. LOUD as heck with plenty of power. Built like a tank! Great looking head (yes, looks can inspire you to play). Accutronics spring reverb. Effect loop and headphone jack. You can switch channels via the push/pull knob on the distortion channel or a footswtich.

The clean channel can get real loud and has a bit of brightness - think - a rev-up Marshall clean channel. The distortion is classic metal which I love. Similiar to a Marshall (both are made in England) but with more punch and tightness. I like the distortion gain all the way up (like Marshall) which gives great tones at moderate volumes. With any amp, the louder you play, to more you have to cut back on the distortion to avoid noise and unwanted feedback. Mainly, the amp has the 'feel' that we guitarists need for
playing distortion. I would say the distortion sounds very similiar to a tube amp - presence and warmth.

Every review here has claimed to have no problem with this monster.
I got mine used (14 years old) and in great shape. Should last a long time.

I contacted Laney to ask if they could tell when the amp was made by the serial #. They got back to me in a couple of hours (very good), but could not tell by the serial # (they did say the amps were made in the late nineties).

The main thing about a head is what speaker cab your running it through. I'm running this head through a Randall single 12" cabinet with a Celestron made in England speaker. Sounds great. I use it recording so I can't comment about playing live. It's a great sounding amp with '90's technology which I like - before the amp makers started cutting corners and adding digital effects and stuff.

For a solid state amp the subtle distortion roll in actually gives you a lot of warmth and control.

not sure what year this amp was made but i bought it used from a pawn shop.
i have used this amp for several months now and find it to be very versatile, i use the clean channel with a multi-fx unit and it sounds super.
i have used the overdrive channel on a few gigs when my fx was broken and found it to be acceptable but not outstanding, overall a very good amp.

i use a jackson dinky with stock pickups and i have almost no noise, however it does hum a bit at high volume.
i also find you need to use shielded cables because cell phones affect the sound and you cannot go into any venue where cell phones are not used.
the cellular interferance is the only sound problem i have found but using shielded cables seem to fix this problem.

ok i just put down everything this beast has: Dual channels, dual reverb, dual EQ(3 band), gain on normal channel(acts like a volume), drive and level on OD channel(pull level knob out to turn on overdrive channel, or footswitch), has master volume and reverb on/off switch, to inputs(high and low) and the foot switch plug well thats the front panel sussed.
now the back panel has effects loop, preamp out, direct injection out, 2 speaker outputs, headphone out and of coarse the power plug thing and the on/off switch for the power.
i really like this amp, has nice sound, i usaully play heavy stuff and classical, and jimi stuff, and this amp sounds awesome for that.

i use a jackson lefty gat, H-S-H setup, floyd rose, its mean lol, and i hav that running into a ibanez SM7 and an Boss CH3 through the effects loop(sm7 aint through effects loop), it sounds nice as down low and cranked up, the on board overdrive aint to hot tho, thats y i use a pedel, the amp makes sum noise, could just b the standard jackson pick ups.

yea id use it without back up, once we had a mixer going into it, with guitar and 2 mics for vocals, and the amp went strong, it was pretty much saying "is that all u got", after that practice, the amp sounded the same as before the mixer went thru it, so yea, tough as.

its great for the 2 years i've been playing, plenty of kick and sounds great, reverb is really good too, if it was stolen i prolly would like to get another one, but chances r slim coz there aint many around, i was trying amps everywhere, i wanted a peavey bandit, but wanted more than 80 watts, and 120 watts was awesome to get, so i got this, glad to of, didnt pay much for it, made my own cabinet, brought a speaker and it sounds great, i hate it how the handle's on the top, should b on the side, they r easier to carry like that, but wow, its only the handle, i love it how i cant handle it up loud in this room, rips my brain in half, you ever wanna crank this, make sure the room is a decent size, a hall would b a gd idea. great amp, well done laney.

i got this thing 2 years ago, but i'm not sure what year it was made. it's a solid state amp head, 120 watts, 2 channles(clean and overdrive),seperate reverb controls for both channles, master vol,2 speaker outs, headphones out, preamp out, effects loop, and a di. it also has 2 inputs(low and high), and it don't look too bad either. it has plenty of power(120 watts worth),i run it with two mesa/boogie 4x12 cabs and it pushes the hell out of them.if you are into the old rock n roll or the bluesy sounds, then you'll probably like the overdrive, i personaly don't use it very much cause i like a little more gain than it will allow, although the clean channle is very nice.

i've got 2 different guitars i use with this amp, one is a jackson king v, with an emg 81 in the bridge, and an 85 in the neck. the other is an ibanez s 470, with the same pickup configuration.also keep in mind that i play all kinds of music, but mostly extremly heavy or extremly soft, no happy medium:)as i said, i don't like the overdrive on this amp, that's why i gave it a 7. the clean is amazing, it won't distort at high volumes (it's great for light jazz), when i'm playing heavy music i run everything through a line 6 pod pro,and just go through the clean channle on the amp, it sounds killer.the overdrive channle just sucks for heavy music, but play on it before you decide on anything, my tastes in sounds are not yours.

i've used this amp for practice and gigging since i bought it.and in 2 years NOTHING has gone wrong. it is a freakin tank, for example......i played in a death metal band for about a year and a half, useing only this amp, under the stress of two gigs and five days of practice a week,NOTHING WENT WRONG. it perfomed beutifly every single night, by the way, we played very loud!so wasn't like it got any breaks as far as output. i am damn proud of this amp!

it's as reliable as it could possibly be,the clean channle is very nice, the overdrive i think sucks...for the price i paid i'm very pleased. it's no mesa/boogie but it has delivered when i needed it to, i will never get rid of it, if it is stolen i would like to get another, but i never see them anymore, so i don't know how hard it would be to find one, and even if i did, i doubt it would act as good as this one.
