Laney LC15R

I think mine is 2004/2005.I have the often criticised H&H Invader speaker.This has been covered well by other reviews. I dont mind the reverb, its subtle, again I have a zoom GU2.1 so I almost just need power really.However the big plus is the extension cabinet facility which the LC15 does not have.No bloody headphone Jack stops it from a full 10.Lets get serious about these amps, for people who need more headroom etc there are other options notably the LC30R.I dont even know how to use the effects loop.The bright switch is marginal, unlike the bright switches on a Marshall, but to criticise it for this is like complaining that Jessica Biel wore a red lycra micro skirt and not a lime green one.At this wattage and with a 10" speaker it has limits, so lets judge it accordingly.

I have a Cort KX5, I use it for everything.Fixed bridge so it has limits. It aint noisy, it is however an amp that likes to get hot.Clean as a whistle, overdrive may not be to everyones liking, but I use a zoom GU2.1 which negates all that to a point.I rarely use the amp 'as is.' I manage to get a very clean tone out of mine.As others have noted it works well with effects units.It will not sound like a JCM800 no matter what you do, so if thats what you are expecting, you will be disapointed, however spend another grand or so and you can fix that problem.I.e, if you want a Marshall, buy one and dont be disapointed with other makers little tube amps for not sounding like fully fledged Marshall amp monsters.For what it is, a full 10.

Reliable yes, but it does get hot.

Cant say as it has been reliable I have not had to use them. I bought this in London and its with me in NZ now, so I hope I never have to either. I am going to self repair the output transformer as I have just started to get wavering volume with the new Laney GS2x12 closed back with 70/80 celestions.I think this is where I need to upgrade, then maybe the valves which are original.

Been playing 20 years, have owned a Marshall VS100 stack, a crappy roland (actually people lov em) a few guitars and pedals. They are $995.00 over here in NZ, so I hope I never have to replace it, although I would love to.I like the fact I have uprated it by adding the Laney GS212 and its now all the amp I will ever need.Its clean, its loud, there is no extraneous noise whatsoever.When I uprate the tubes and the output transformer, it will be an absolute beast.By the way with the Laney 2x12, it looks very professional, the covering is similar and the increase in sound quality makes you play even better.Much Much better than the Marshall in my opinion, the size for starters and in a small practise environment i.e your own bedroom or similar you can just use the original combo. Add the 2x12 in your stage gig and you will have no problems with your fellow musicians or the audience.If you need further grunt or distortion, sure there are plenty of options. I think people get 'involved' with this amp and cant help but nuturing it from a little 10" Invader, with standard tubes to some stage monster with all of the original tone and to be honest, thats no bad thing...and to many its the only way to have a relationship with your gear is to do it this way, others might find buying a 100w marshall and leaving it standard for years and thats fine too.

i play blues\psychedelic rock with my band (we make our own songs) and it suites perfectly with this kind of music
the things i liked at first was the clean channel,far better than a lot of fender...very warm and nice and it break up very beautifull
the dirty channel is good too,but at high volumes (and thath's what i like about this amp!)
the only "problem" i s the speaker thats hasn't bass and sound boxed..for this reason i bought a epiphone valve junior extension cabinet...and the sound becomes far better than after...
now it has more bass and at high volumes sounds awesome!
i use with a big muff,a(i'm gonna buy a graphic fuzz or a fuzz face) dano chiken salad and a vox v847 wah
i use the muff or on the clean channel or the dirty with gain not very high and sounds goooooooood

Mine is a brand new LC-15R, but dosen't have the same face plate as every other one I can find on line. And it dosen't have an "R" on it anywhere, but does have a reverb tank. Wierd.
I've been searching for the perfect, small, portable tube amp and have gone through quite a few; Creat, Pignose, Fender, Vox, Carvin and even a few S.S.; Tech 21, Randall. I think I have finally found a perfect combo for my needs. Not that it's perfect in every way, but perfect for what it does.
This little 10"-15 watt amp sports a 3-AX7A 2 EL-84 setup, but not in typical class A but AB. The AB powered 15 watts is much less powerful than my EL-84 class A amps. Line out, effects loop, reverb, handle, power cord, etc. Everything amyone could want in a tube combo. And this model features the highest qulity Celestion speaker that they have ever offered in this amp.

I play many guitars through this amp. Fenders, Gibsons, both electric and acoustic. It sounds just like the sound I've been searching for! I find myself having to crank this little guy up more than I thought I would, but the tone holds on fairly well. The cleans, with modest volumes, are pretty sweet. Not Fender 100-clean-watts sweet, but nice and warm. Being a Laney, as this thing starts to break up, my smile grows a little bigger with each increase. This amp will produce more gain than I'll ever need which is nuts considering its a little box with a 10" speaker...but it will. This amp would be just fine without a "Gain" pot. All you have to do is keep increasing the volume, and the overdrive curve is very controllable. I'm a Roots Rock/Rock and Roll guitarist...sometimes I needs chorusy cleans and sometimes I need that first stage of breakup sound. I've got pedals for the rest. This amp does my musical style justice. Again, for what this amp is, it does it's thing perfectly! Even the cheap, overseas reverb sounds convincing and holds it's own.

I don't know why it took me so long to try out Laney's combos. My main amp for the past 6 years has been a Laney TT20 tube head. This head gives me "my" sound. It has worked flawlessly for me until recently. I was retubbing it for the third time since getting it six years ago, and after installing the new tubes, I couldn't get any output. It is in the shop as I write this. But I do believe in Laney's quality 100%. Have they had problems with some models? Sure, who hasen't? I've owned some real crap from Fender and Carvin also. Not bad products just a bad apple in the basket. I do trust Laney to either repair a know problem, or remove a problem product from the market. Hot tube amps without a backup, are you crazy! I really don't like Laney's 100mA fuse that blows when your tubes are dying. You can hear when the tubes are about shot, and that size fuse is a bugger to find. I've had to hunt this fuse down twice now.

Laney direct is a pain in the ass. But the network of dealers is pretty easy to deal with. They are Brits after all...they'll take our money, but don't really care how we feel or what's wrong with our product. Okay, maybe that is a little harsh. Their website is pretty crappy.

I bought this brand new off of ebay from a Laney Dealer. Again, this LC-15 has a completely different faceplate than any others that I've seen...maybe Canadian model or something. The price was good, and I feel I got a whole lot of bang for my buck(s). I'd replace this in a heartbeat with the same amp. It is the least "boxy" sounding small combo I've ever played through. I've always been a Blues Jr. fan (until they moved production to Mexico!), but Fender and Carvin's small amps sound, well, SMALL! Vox's AC-15 has am almost perfect "small combo" tone and sound. The Laney isn't quite up to par with VOX but mainly due to a 10" speaker vs. a 12er. An amp in this price range isn't really a keepsake. I'm sure the thing will fart out in a few years, but for now, with the price I paid, I feel I"ve found my perfect combo.
I've been playing for 27 years and have been through all the phases. I own many different guitars and like to find the qualities in each one. I don't swap out pickups anymore (so all my guitars sound the same). These days, I'm really into hearing the unique differences in each one of my girls. I've always been a Laney fan because they seems to produce amps that really let your style and the distinct tones of each instrument shine through. I'm a traditional rock guitarist in that I have an analog pedel board, I play older guitars, and I own (with this combo) five low-watt tube amps. I love this thing plugged into my '70s Fender 2x12 cab which is also great for breaking in that crispy new Celestion speaker!
I do wish it was class A only for a little more volume, but it's tone is unique because it's not just another EL-84 class A combo. Set the Gain at 3 and the volume at 7-8, and you're in the sweet spot. Well, my sweetspot anyway. Give one of these little sleepers a try, and I think, if you know what you are after, this little guy will impress you.
The bottom line: If I could find a combo that sounded just like my Laney TT20H head, I'd be tickled. Well, I did!

I bought the amp second hand from one guy on a forum. The features are pretty basic: 1 channel, 3 band EQ, gain and volume knobs, parallel FX loop (the fact that it's parallel makes it great in my opinion. A switch to toggle the FX loop on/off would have made it perfect), external speaker connection jack, line out jack (I think it doesn't work, or maybe I didn't know how to properly use it), hi and lo guitar input jacks, bright switch, Celestion tube 10 speaker.
Power - 15 W - it's loud enough for my needs. I tested it in open space with the gain at about 4 and volume at 10 and, I could barely stay next to it. I used in a rehearsal room, and, using an extension cabinet it could stand up to the drummer at moderate volume settings. I usually play it in my flat, with volume up to 2, gain up to 2 and a marshall jackhammer for distorted sounds in front of it. If I want overdrive from the amp, i set the volume very very low. It's LOUD. The fact that it only has one channel doesn't bother me too much because it is really dinamic. If I turn the gain as hi as 4-5 and I play softly with the pick or with my fingers I still get decent clean sounds. If I hit it harder it rocks. The only thing that I wish it had is a way to switch the FX loop on and off.

Let me describe the sounds:
I use a Epiphone Les Paul Custom (everything stock) and sometimes a Marshall JackHammer between the guitar and amp. Very rarely, I place a Digitech Digidelay in the FX loop. I have no mods on the amp so far - it's all stock. I am planning to have a friend of mine modify the overdrive, and I will post a review if the change will be relevant. My styles are: blues, jazz (the amp is perfect for dark jazzy tones), 70's rock, 80's rock, thrash - the most extreme being something like Pantera.

If the volume is about 5/10 and gain about 4/10 you get a nice personal tone that lets the guitar shine through. I also plugged a Fender American Standard Stratocaster and it sounded amazing.
The gain:
1. Clean: When turned up to 2, using HI input, the sound is pretty clean - very bluesy, but a little muddy (very jazzy if you like - it's not bat, but not for Metallica like clean-tones). If I engage the bright switch the sound changes drastically. I get very crisp cleans - think the Another Brick in the Wall Pt2 solo. From gain 4 and up, the bright switch doesn't affect the tone anymore.
2. Blues: Between 2 and 4 you get very nice blues overdrive tones (I think this is the part where the amp really shines),
3. Crunch: between 4 and 6 you get decent - crunchy 70's hard rock tones (if I boost the mids I get pretty close to Steppenwolf - Born to Be Wild tone).
4. Metal: Between 6 and 10 you should get crunchier tones (80's rock - even metal - there is plenty of gain). However the overdrive sounds really crappy when the gain is turned past 6/10. It's really harsh, without upper mids, and with very "pungent" highs. It sounds like smelling burning phosphorus. So, I don't really use this setting.

The EQ:
I don't know if it's the amp or the guitar, or both, but the tone is really muddy and dark - like having the tone knob on the guitar turned down very low. So I keep the bass at 2 - 3, hi at 6 - 7 and mids depending on music the style that I want to play. Mids up get very nice Ac/Dc ish tones, Pink Floyd - Time, Steppenwolf - Born to Be Wild. Mids scooped get very nice standard rock sounds (Black Sabbath, Maiden, Metallica etc.) With these settings I manage to make it sound pretty bearable. However, when turning the volume up, the "dark sound" problem starts to be not so intolerable, so I turn the bass up and hi down.

It is not noisy at all.
Let me tell you how I use it: I usually play at home, with volume turned down very low (maximum 2 out of 10), using a Marshall Jackhammer with gain at maximum 5/10 - 6/10 for creamy stuff - and very rarely a Digitech Digidelay in the FX loop. For crunchy sounds I use the Marshall Jackhammer on the OD setting in front of it. If I want to get steamy metal sounds (Whitesnake - 1987, Metallica, Pantera, Anathema - Sleepless etc) with lots of harmonics and squeals, I put the Jackhammer on distortion setting, the amp on clean WITH the BRIGHT switch on. Without the bright switch on it sounds reeeeaaalllyyy muddy.

In conclusion, the combination Epi LP custom + Marshall Jackhammer + Laney LC15R makes playing every style of music you can think of playable. Some styles (overdriven blues, clean blues, clean rock ballads, jazz, mild distorted hard rock, funk) sound really pro, others (hard rock, metal) - where I have to use the Jackhammer - sound not so pro. Because my favourite style is hard rock, I will take the Laney to a technician to see if he can modify it to sound cool at higher gain. That's why it only gets a 7. If I wanted it just for blues, I would have given it a 9 (considering the price - about 220 Euros)

I used to practice with a band, having it plugged into external 4x12' cabinet. The sound was huge. However it had a couple of moments when I changed the guitar from hi to lo input and it just died. After 10 mins it was back "online". I heard that it has some sort of automatic fuse, and sometimes it's normal to act like that. I'm not good at this things, so I don't know what to say ... I would gig without a backup, but I'd be very careful when I plug in/out my guitar.

I've been playing it for about 7 months. It was not new when I bought it, and I heard that everything in it was stock (even the tubes). I haven't had any permanent damage with any component.

Haven't dealt with Laney customer support. I don't think we have such a thing here in Romania

I've been playing for 8 years at an amateur level. Haven't gigged in my life, but I can play decently around camp fires and at friends' parties. I once played 3 songs at a wedding together with a bassist and a guitarist. I attempted to have a band. We did some rehearsals, but it didn't work out. For 7 years I've had a cheap Stratocaster copy, a Roytek 10W amp, and a Zoom 505II as my only electrical gear. It sucked balls, but for my level was almost ok. I then had an old tube radio turned into a guitar amp (copy of Soldano SLO100) but didn't like it and sold it. Now I play an Epi LP Custom through a Marshall Jackhammer into this Laney. Sometimes I plug a Chinese Drive bass straight into the amp (sounds really good for home recordings). I am pretty satisfied with the amp. In conjunction with the Jackhammer it allows me to play all the styles that I want. However, I want to ditch the Jackhammer and use only amp drive. This is not possible, because at gain settings higher than 4/10 the amp distortion sucks donkey balls. However, I want it modded to have this problem solved.

Bottom line is that it is great value for the money - in my country, Romania, I think it's the best value for the money. The rating would have been 9 or 10 if I had only wanted to play blues with it

Bought Second-hand from my local guitar shop - I was after a small tube amp (probably smaller than 15w) and this was the closest thing in the shop. I took a gamble cause I wanted something there and then - I would normally do my homework, first - but it sounded nice in the shop.

It has an older H/H driver but has an extension cab output (which was another feature I wanted). Bass, Middle and Treble pots with, obviously a gain pot and a master volume. There's a high and low input jack and a 'bright' switch which has a minimal effect on the sound. There is also a solid-state reverb, controlled by a footswitch, which is really very pronounced when turned up high.
There is a parallel effects loop. All in all, a nice set of features whilst keeping that basic, down-to-earth feel.

This is used as a practice amp but would easily be sufficient to cut-through in a club. Very load for a 15 watter, methinks, but the master volume pot can adjust it to all environments.

I'm using this with two H/H guitars - a nice Gordon-Smith G60 and an old, battered 1980's VOX Standard 24 with high-output DiMarzios. The G60 has tap-able Pups and is the most versatile (non-modelling) guitar that I've ever heard.

The amp would sit in the middle of the sonic spectrum, not ultra- clean or high distortion (although I've not tried it with a distortion pre-amp, yet). I don't mean that it is mediocre, though. What i mean is that it's very versatile - i play everything from jazzy, ambient stuff right up to heavy rock and it can produce all that.

High gain settings can be a bit noisy - especially of course in conjunction with single coils but no more than any other amplifier.

The overdriven sound is bright and defined - like walking on gravel rather than the 'crump' of deep snow, and the just-breaking-up tones of the gain pot at around 4 or 5 are excellent. I'd like a little more definition in the bass but a changed speaker (or using a cab) would solve this. The amp's reaction to playing style really is fantastic - you can easily change the gain considerably by strength of pick-attack but the natural compression of the amp controls the subsequent volume change - this is definately the outstanding character feature of the Laney LC15R in my opinion. The tone stack is good and versatile but to honest I have found my perfect tone which I rarely mess with. (If you're interested, it's Gain at 6, Bass at 7, Middle at 5, Treble at 8 and reverb, if used, at 4). At these settings I can control all the tones I need from my guitar.

The effect loop (like them or hate them) does the job very well and definitely helps the pre-amp do it's job without time-based effects getting in the way.

It seems to my ears that it can take a while for it to warm up properly - maybe an hour or so - I'm not sure why this would be unless the power tubes are taking that long when I play at low Master volume (but surely the master volume is after the power amp section?) Anyway, when it is fully warmed-up, it developes a new side to it's character - an organic, woody sound with a little 'sag' - very nice indeed - which makes me reluctant to switch it off and the main reason that I haven't changed the stock valves, yet.

Another small minus point really and that is that when I play a bottom e or lower, the decay has a slight glassiness to it - but I'm sure that this is the tubes so I'm not taking points off. So only the poor speaker takes away from top marks here.

Well, the jury's out here - I got it home from the shop and it didn't work! (I treated it properly, I swear!) The shop was great about it and they took it back so their amp guy could take a look - I had checked the fuses. It turned out to by dried-out solder near the power xformer. To be honest, this shows that the internal bits can be serviced easily and given the age of the amp, I didn't mind a bit.
Mine doesn't get too hot, as others have said happens.

Emailed Laney with the problem and symptoms mentioned above and got a reply within 24 hours. Very impressed indeed.

A like the idea of having lots of gear but to be honest the thought of a simple guitar and amp partnership appeals even more - natural tone through native instrument sound and playing technique. My normal signal path is therefore my Gordon-Smith G60 > a Crybaby Wah > Laney LC15R with a Chorus and Delay in the effects loop. That's it. I also have a solid state Marshall (MDFX30?) which I use for super-clean sounds if needed (rarely).
Occasionally, when recording, I run straight into a Line6 sound card and use Guitar Rig or the Line 6 modelling software because it's easier than micing up an amp but you don't get the tone that the Laney (or most other tube amps) can give.
Better tone than any solid state at the same price (though less features) - a great amp.

Class A/B valve amp. 3 x ECC83 pre amp valves, 2 EL84 output valves, Celestion Tube 10 speaker. Single channel amp with accutronics reverb unit.

Simple set up and very easy to use. To my ears the three band EQ doesn't have that much range but the brightness switch is great.

I use this with a Les Paul Standard and a G&L Legacy - Great for Hendrix, Chili Peppers, AC/DC, Zeppelin - even Husker Du with the right pedal.

Straight out of the box the amp certainly does deliver plenty of volume. I use a couple of effects pedals that allow me to ???channel switch??? between various levels of gain and distortion.

Having read a few reviews I became intrigued about upgrading valves and speaker. I bought the Celestion G10 upgrade kit from Watford Valves and the change has been dramatic.

Changing stock TAD ECC83s for Harma STRs really tightened the pre amp gain response. With the stock valves the gain would sound OK up to about 6 or 7 but then get really mushy after that. With the Harma valves the gain response is smooth, focused and usable all the way to 10!

Upgrading the output valves has been a revelation at higher volumes. With the pre amp gain turned down, the Harma E84Ls deliver great, creamy overdrive with plenty of headroom. I had always previously had to dial in a bit of pre amp gain to get that overdrive sound at higher volumes but with the Harma upgrades you can balance the pre amp and output valves perfectly depending on required volume and drive levels ??? the way it should be!

Changing the stock Tube 10 for the Celestion G10 is the icing on the cake. It brightens the sound and delivers real punch. Great for ballsey chord sequences ??? think AC/DCs You shook me all night long.

Before the upgrades I???d give the LC15R a 7 for sound, afterwards a worthy 9.

I???ve had this amp for over a year. It did develop a 60 cycle hum after four months or so that I put down to capacitor issues. I sent the amp back to the shop for repair under warranty and it has been solid ever since.

This is a 2007 model so all previous overheating issues seem to have been resolved. Even after a couple of hours the front panel feels only lukewarm to the touch.

Amp is nice and quiet too. Only really makes a noise with single coil PUPs at higher volumes but that's a PUP issue.

Had my amp repaired no questions asked. A courier arrived at my door within a couple of days, the amp was picked up and returned to me two weeks later good as new, again by courier, all FOC.

I also sent email to Tech support regarding changing speaker and had a response back the next day.

A great little amp with bags of potential. In stock form it???s a bit of a wild man ??? loud and snarling but with the upgrades it becomes a real thoroughbred.

Ideal for classic rock and blues ??? add a distortion pedal and it nails heavier sounds too.

I also own an original JCM800 combo but that is just too loud for anything other than playing live. The Laney is perfect for home use and can easily be miked up to PA or jacked direct into speaker cabinet for live work.

LC15R Silver Anniversaty model. The cab is covered with silver Tolex cloth. Tester label inside says it was made in 1998. Usual features for this amp.
Have replaced the H+H Invader speaker with a heavier duty Celestion G10. Have replaced the stock valves with 3 vintage Phillips ECC83 and 2 Mullard EL84.
Used for practice at home and jamming at work.

Used with a Strat.
The Celestion G10 speaker gives much better lows than did the stock H+H. Changing the stock valves for vintage English/USA valves improves the smoothness and harmonics - you could easily hear the improvement straight away.

I have taken it apart and noticed that while the ECC83 valve sockets were all ok, the plastic EL84 valve sockets were discoloured and starting to melt. Possible reliability problems for the future.
Also, compared to my old WEM 14watt amp, the 2 transformers are very small - one being tiny. A few times it has lost volume for a short period, but then it came back. This is a sign of overheating, but which actual component is overheating is not clear at present.

A good sounding amp, but some of the components have been selected down to a cost, rather than up to a standard. Ceramic valve sockets - just a few pence more, and standing off the circuit board by 5mm would have cured the valve socket overheating/melting issue.

I bought this amp new in July 2006.Features have been listed before(I

buying an Epiphone Dot Studio at a local music store.),but I believe I
saw a "1997" sticker on the H/H speaker.One channel,effects loop,bright
switch,line out(underused in my case),speaker out(Yum!),wickedly versa-
tile gain knob.And,oh yeah,TUBES.And for what it is,it has plenty of
power.15 watts 3 unlabeled 12AX7s and 2 Sovtek EL84s.

TUBES,I said!Can you hear me NOW? Excellent sounds.A tad "girthy" for
chicken-pickin',but I like it.Blues,rock,reggae,rock,vague jazz ram-
blings,did I mention rock?,country,you get the idea.
It broke up early and none to pretty with the stock preamp tubes,but
I eventually fixed that.Plays OK with my '83 Strat(Select single coil
replacement p/u's),likes most pedals and loves the Alnico V's in the
same Dot Studio that some bored music store guy(bless his heart,as we
say Down Here)first plugged it into before I even knew that Laney pro-
ducts were available 'round these parts.Not to noisy.Glassy and asser-
tive,it demands that I play better. It Rules!

I play mostly around the house(sigh),so it is somewhat babied. I use
a small fan with it and always let it warm up.I would carry a back-up
for any situation involving tubes.
Has never given me any problems,but(props all around),as per these
reviews,I spoil it.It's mutual.

Never dealt with them.I waited until the one year warranty expired be-
fore I started swapping preamp tubes.

I've been playing on and off(mostly off) since 1979.My other amps are
a Behringer GM110 (not to bad,really) and a mid-seventies master volume
Twin Reverb desperately in need of new power tubes,biasing and some cap
work.However,it turns out that there were several RCA and GE (stock?!!)
12AX7A and 12AT7 preamp TUBES(I said!) in the Twin that turned this amp
into a beautiful tone maker.Over the years I've played or owned a var-
iety of Fender,Sears and Marshall tube and Vox and Peavey tranny gear.
The only amp that really interested me besides this one was a Peavey
Delta Blues(15" speaker,whoomp)which was twice the price.I found the
Fender Blues Jr. to be more expensive (I paid 279.00$ USD - nobody a-
round here knows how good these products are!!)and lacking in tone
and features.
I plan to buy another one whether I "lose" this one or not! A bigger

It's a simple Class A/B valve amp. Mine had the standard HH speaker in it, i replaced it with a Jensen... little improvement. I changed all the valves after 2 years og gigging the OE Sovtek's, Harma's from Watford Valves went there, big improvement!!

Feeling a little flush i replaced the speaker with a Celestion G10 Vintage... The amp is totally transformed into a complete beast!

Clean tones are fuller and more defined, crunch sounds have more low end, and it's controlled low end, not the mushy type.

Another few years of gigging an i replaced the output tubes with some Harma Cryo versions. The low end is the same quality but the top end has a bit more presence, me likey!

Reverb died all of a sudden, phoned Laney and they sent me one Free of Charge.... the amp was 8 years old and had been gigged 3 nights a week! it was always kept in a purpose built flightcase though.

it was my main 'small' amp for 10 years, i love it... I had one at college, then sold it, only to find the exact same one in a music shop some 6 months later, so i bought it back!!

Sadly it's not getting anymore use due to the arrival of a Matamp First Lady.... but i've not sold it..!

tasty tasty tubes :D not sure when this amp was made. bought secondhand from a pawn shop for the meagre price of ??140. this amp isnt incredibly versatile. 6 knobs - gain, bass middle treble volume and reverb. i spose the reverb is ok. after about 5 or 6 it can get seriously weird, which some think is cool, some not so. i pretty much exclusively play SRV n cleaner hendrix sort of stuff, n jazzy chromaticism, n id say this suits me. a simple amp for a complex style of playing :P 15 watts for me is just fine. allows me to get power amp OD while keeping friendly neighbours... might possibly want channel switching, but tbh, i wud probs use my bd-2 anyway even if it was there. overall, pretty nice :D

trust me, with the right stuff this amp can sound phenomenally thick n creamy, almost 'dumble' like (well, not THAT good), n that sort of sound is pretty much exclusively what i leave it on, and what i think it does best. i use a fender lite ash telecaster, strung with 12s or 13s (whether im giggin or not ;-) ) either straight in or via a keeley BD-2 and a 72 jen super crybaby. this amp will inevitably need mic'ing up in any sitch other than a rehearsal, personally, i use the line out into my laney linebacker 65 bass. sounds nice n BIG like that :D as much as i like this amp, it sometimes leaves something to be desired... nicer rock OD please?

this amp works like a dream. well. a pretty kooky dream. the way i have it it hasnt done anything bad to me yet. but i let a mates band use it once. he used an epi zakk wylde into the low input. its never been the same since. an alarming tendency to cut in and out on the low developed. also, like many solid state amps, this can crap out when too much gain is shoved in. less so than u wud imagine... once when recording the amp decided to sulk n wudnt work. but over a yr have the tubes lasted :D

YEH. as well as my LA tele, own an old vintage v100, a shitty squier copy, a jay turser acoustic and a manuel rodriguez classical, a laney linebacker n a broken hohner hr30r, a keeley BD-2, a jen super crybaby, n a 94 dunlop crybaby. if 'twas stolen wud buy a vc30 to dry my tears :D i bought this pretty much on a whim. got bored of the shit ass marshall mg30. love the tone i sometimes get from this amp. hate the fact its not a bit more powerful for cleans. overall, rather good.

Great for a range of styles, sounds good clean right up to dirty rock and early punk. All features have been mentioned previous, i havent much call for the bright switch and never use low input, reverb is ok just to add a touch. Definately get the LC15 R as the regular doesn't have ext cab socket which u need! if i'd had more money i would have bought a 2 channel amp, but this does fine if you have stomp boxes. I use it mainly for practice/ jamming.

As i said before only one channel so if your just using the amp you are limited to dirty, crunchy or clean depending on what you dial in. The great thing is with this and other tube amps is you can use your guitars tone and vol controls to change the sounds, back of the vol and this little amp cleans up a little which is cool and something you cant do properly with solid state. I find small amps very harsh when turned up loud, and even with the upgraded jensen speaker this is no different, it goes v loud and is a bit of a headache. However if you get a gig or have the chance plug it into a speaker cab and this thing changes into a fat tone monster that you can really crank up. Stick and o/d or distortion pedal in front and push the tubes for some wailing solos. Def a 9 or 10 with a cab!

This was bought second hand and went wrong the day i got it. It was my first tube amp so i was a bit stumped. I tried replacigng the HT fuse which commonly goes with this amp but i think i used slightly the wrong value ( i didnt realise at the time)and they kept blowing. I took it to a repair guy and he said it was prob the power amp transformer and he changed it for ??60. It worked fine and then went again so i bought some fuses (the correct ones this time) and it worked fine. Ive replaced the power tubes once since ive had and it and its been nearly 2 years. It does run v hot and i would prob rig up a fan behind it or turn it upside down for a long loud gig.

Never dealt with laney but they have a good website, and the net is full of advice for repairs etc.

Been playing about 8-9 years this is my first tube amp, ive had marshall valvestate before which is ok but doesnt compare. When you get a tube amp you realise that is a real amp. I play mainly les paul copies like epiphones. If it were lost or stolen i'd prob get the new small laney tube amp they bought out or an epiphone one. If i had the money and massive house with no one for miles i'd get a marshall jubilee. dream on!

LC15 R is great first tube amp, but experienced players will get alot from it as well.

Mine is from the earlier series made probably around 2001-2002. The previous owner already put a Jensen P10R inside. I suppose this is a big upgrade as the stock HH speaker was truely the weak link
in the Laney LC50 I had some time ago.

Anyway, the 3-band EQ here is VERY ineffective. The bright switch works fine at lower gain settings. Its effectiveness depends A LOT on the guitar you use. So does the hi/lo input which is one great feature. I don't use the FX loop as I prefer my time FX in front of this LC15 (and the LC50) unlike other amps I had in the past. I think that's because their loops are parallel which is a stupid idea IMO (you can't have a more than 50% wet sound).

The reverb is decent if kept within reason. If you like loads of reverb then you need a pedal since anything above 6 sounds strange here.

Gain goes up to hard rock. No metal possible without an additional pedal. Most distortion/OD pedals work fine in front.
I had good luck with the original Guv'nor, a Zoom PD01, Zoom HL01 (at low levels) and a Tech21 GT2.
I had bad luck with most fuzz pedals (fuzz factory, DHA Ge fuzz, Big Muff and DOD FX52). I suspect the LC15 doesn't have enough clean headroom for those but what do I know ...

Any gain above 7.5 gets muddy. Hard rock is only feasible using a HB guitar into the Hi input. A SC guitar into the Lo input yields medium rock gain at best.

The actual sound is more geared towards blues/blues rock than modern rock. Harmonics jump out on demand and your usual tube sag/compression happens at higher levels. A very "wet" sounding amp if that rings a bell. More "creamy" than "focussed". Fat, loose low end, not tight sounding.

I for one wouldn't play funk (or SRV) on this amp as it does not deliver those sounds all that well. I've heard and owned amps that deliver better defined cleans.
I wouldn't play punk or metal on this one either as it is too loose sounding. Remember none does it all. This one was made for BLUES - BLUES ROCK !

I used it several times with my previous (loud) band when the JCM2000 TSL was being serviced. It was not loud enough as one could expect. Moreover, after half an hour with volume on 9-10 and gain on 5-7 it always ran dangerously hot. I'm sure it would have broken quickly. Hopefully the band split even before the half-stack came back haha ... :))

I didn't experience the cabinet rattling others are talking about, even with volume on 10. The amp is surprisingly quiet even at full throttle (the exact opposite of my LC50).

I do plan however to install a small AC fan for cooling the transformer. You never know and I would be very sad if this little fella died because of overheating.
It has somewhat grown on me ...

I keep this amp for practising in my basement and the occasional "different" gig, like some jazz jams I did already and where it behaved very well. I doubt I'll ever replace it provided it doesn't break ...

I wouldn't suggest it for gigging with a rock band because you might have to run at levels where it probably gets dammaged quickly. That's been my experience anyway ...
It might work for pub gigs with a civilized drummer though.

Over here the LC15(R) is the cheapest all tube amp one can find and frankly I don't see it being inferior to the Blues Jr. fro instance. Hence buying a LC15 becomes pretty much a no brainer if you're shopping for an inexpensive, lightweight, low wattage all tube amp that delivers blues oriented sounds.

It is not exactly 10, but it is a good 9 thanks to huge versatility

I didn't change the valves but mine sound great so I must be lucky
(it is easy to replace them - buy CRYOGENIC variety like JJ or Harma).

I did replace the speaker but wouldn't claim that the original HH was very bad - the new Jensen is better (?90).

I play latino-blues-jazz and I played zillion concerts live with it and even with a drummer and 2 LOUD conga player it was able to cut through, while NO modelling amp can survive the stage test !

In short, everybody should have one and I bring it always as a spare yet it ends often as the main amp !!! so I use my other more expensive amps less and save money on expensive valves :-)

As a second stage amp that is often my first one and that weighs nothing and sounds fabulous and is very versatile I give it 10.

In reality it is at the 7-9 value point when you compare it to THD Univalve =10 (THD requires perfect guitar and expensive speakers).

I play since 1960, play mainly a Strat and LP and have only the best tube amps: THD Univalve for all situation, '65 Fender Deluxe Reverb for clean stage sounds, Trace-Elliott designed Gibson GA15RV class A bluesy combo ... and this small back-up Laney LC15R that in all small gigs or Big stage gigs I use as a main amp. Recenty in the open space gig in June I played again Laney (no risk if somebody spills beer) and it went through the PA and sounded fabulous.

GREAT VALUE for money - your best bet as a small amp and back-up.

It's an old one w/o reverb or a speaker out and has the hh invader speaker. All seems stock or at least the tubes are that same as stock.

It's pretty good over all but the cab vibrates so much that it goes back through the tubes and out the speaker as a high pithed squelching type sound. (in layman's terms)

I got this cause the price was right and 5 watts (Epi VJ head) was too quiet to gig or jam with friends.

About 4yrs old and outwardly bog-standard,but at the back lurks a secret,what singles this one WAY!out from the crowd is a black box with 2 knobs fitted on the inside panel.IT is the totally fantastic roger alcock VINTAGE_VALVE unit! an original ef86 vox pre-amp valve unit with seperate vol.and 4 stage tone network that transform this amp into a messa-monster.Also a vintage celestion speaker .

Using the amp as a moniter fed by a pod xt-live into the vintage'unit then into a bose p.a.s.system via a red-box pro.The sound is awsome.On its own with a variax/fender custom,custom tele-e.m.g loaded and a 95.anniv.strat with j.b.hot noisless p/ups plugged in,it sings with the best.Valves are a mixture of premium ecc83's and boogie el84's.I absolutely LUV_IT.

GIG-IT for a living and it aint broke yet.If it did I would fix it as its a very simple circuit,might add a cooling fan to help it last.

I have played 40+yrs,had one of the first ac30TB's,marshalls,kustom's(roll&pleat)fenders,H/H,Messa-boogie,session,yamaha's and this ranks with all of them.I would certainly get anather and definately fit the VINTAGE'unit as it will improve any valve amp.

all you need for blues and classic rock, not enough gain for metal but reverb and fx loop help versitility.

Awsome lead sound when pushed, say gain and master volume on 7 and the clean sounds with lots of reverb are outstanding. the speaker lets it down a bit at higher volumes though, and the construction of the cab means it rattles too. it may be cheap but for most styles it will blow away any digital modeling amp.

This is starting to P**s me off now. for the first 10 months it was perfect, but then the output transformer went. to be fair the amp had seen some pretty loud practice sessions but no gigs. Last week however the same thing happened again after not very much use at all, and it's just out of waranty too. this seems to be a common problem so why have laney not sorted it???

prompt return under warranty last time, however since i'm being arsey about paying for a new transformer i'll reserve judgment this time. prompt replys to email enquiries though.

Iv'e been playing15yrs and this is the best sounding amp i've owned for the less extreme stuff. buy it for practice/ rehersals where you can keep the volume low- reliability wise I don't think you can run this amp loud for too long so giging is out of the question as far as i'm concerned.

I think the spec is covered in the various reviews below. I play within a blues/blues rock/hard rock domain and use this amp at home, where I have a small recording set up down in the basement. I don't gig anymore, but I often play with friends and for friends, so I bought this amp for the portability mainly, as my other amp is a home made point to point monster and not quite easy to cart around. This Laney is a single channel master volume amp, which I like, because I think that two channel amps don't respond as well in the low end in the overdrive channel. I also liked the fact that it's loud, very loud!

I play a Warmoth tele with Rio Grande pickups and an Ibanez S1540FM with stock pickups. Stock, the amp is decent, and for the price very good. All the juice in stock form is in all combinations of gain and volume between 3 and 6, to my ear at least. With the gain below 3 the amp sounds clean but impotent, and above six very gritty. So if you play blues the stock amp will probably deliver all the ground between the classics and SRV, for practice with a light handed drummer. If you need more gain for hard rock or more volume for a larger venue, an unpleasant grittiness/harshness in the high-end creeps in. With a pedal, such as a Tube Screamer, in front of it, things improve a bit, but not a lot. So, upgrades...

Phase 1. Out go the cheap TAD valves. Things improved a bit, but not a lot. I tried various combinations but 3 Mullard reissue GT12AX7M for the pre-amp and 2 EL84 (6BQ5 is the U.S. name for the tube)by JJ really stood out for better high end, more balls, and organic distortion. I didn't like the Sovtek and Electroharmonix equivalents for being quite harsh (mind that I only had the cheaper WB variety for the pre-amp). I finally settled with Harma valves (watfordvalves.com), which are also excellent (especially if you're on a budget), because the Mullrads really belong to ...the other amp.

Phase 2. Out goes the Celestion Tube 10. Not a bad speaker, but too generic and uninteresting with a flat high-end response and and a slightly muddy low-end. It was replaced with a Jensen C10Q. This made quite a lot of difference and added all the sparkle that was missing.

(watfordvalves.com had an offer of a set of Harma valves and the Jensen for 65 pounds (about 100 euro) plus shipping).

Phase 3. Still quite unhappy about the grittines mentioned above, although now improved a lot, I had the amp scoped. To cut a long story short, the main finding was that the cheap output tranformer used had a lot to do with all the unpleasantness above 6 on the amp. So, out it went. It was replaced by a high quality Sowter (sowter.co.uk) tranformer. This made the grit dissappear by 90%.

(The new transformer cost 70 pounds (105 Euro) plus shipping)

I realise that all this is expensive stuff. I bought this amp from Thomann for 329 euro and after all this it's gone up to about 600. This will bring you into Peavey Delta Blues and Fender Blues Junior territories. However, having played these amps, I could clearly see myself doing similar things to them. So, better to start with a cheaper platform for upgrades. There maybe some exceptions in this price range, perhaps the Laney LC30, but then we are mixing different types of amps.

Some guys here think that the cabinet is a disgrace. Well, I agree. If you're recording it is important, but unless you have a seriously flimpsy one it's fine for practice and rehearsal, I think. For recording I use external cabinets.

Stock spec will get a great little practice amp for the blues player, probably the best for the price. Upgrading it in a way similar to the one suggested above will get you an excellent versatile amp for blues, rock and hard rock players for up to small club levels, with tones to be found in amps costing seriously more money.

I play classic and hard rock and some blues. this amp is plenty versatile for all of the above, and then some. only one channel- the idea being it cleans up when you turn down the volume on your guitar.
has built in reverb (spring i think)and a jack for a footswitch. also has an effects loop, a line out and an extension jack to drive a half stack.
wish it had 2 channels.
use this amp to practice in my room. it has plenty of power for that. turn the gain and volume up to 5 and you will deafen yourself.
it is all tube-2 el84's and 2 ecc83/12ax7 preamp tubes and an ecc83/12ax7 phase splitter. class a/b

sounds amazing whatever you play through it. i play a strat and an epiphone les paul. both sound great. at low gain it shimmers and at higher gain it rocks. its pretty quiet as far as background noise is concerned. if you keep the gain around 4 and turn up the volume to 8 or 9 you get this amazing clapton style output tube distortion.

only had it 2 months.seems pretty solid.my only concern is that it gets so loud that the whole cab shakes.never broken down

been playing 4 years.got a strat and a les paul and a cheap acoustic.if this amp was stolen i would go out and buy a new one straight away.i love everything about it.i was considering getting a hybrid amp like a marshall avt or a vox ad. glad i went with this.

gain, master, bass, mid, treble, hi lo inputs, extension out 8-16 (dunno how that works without an impedence mismatching which is bad for an output transformer). Single 10 inch speaker Celestion Red Label Tube 10.

Les Paul into Low input sounds fine but the cabinet is dreadful. It is such that the amp is unusable out of the box. I have just posted it back to the store I got it from. Vibrations on E string Ab and a creaking sound when muting and then strumming. Very bad, I tightened the chassis screws, checked baffle screws, speaker nuts, all tight. Nah this is either best left as a practice amp so as not to go too loud and vibrate the way too light cabinet, or else take out the chassis and build your own cabinet. I build cabinets and with this thing a rebuild is mandatory if you were going to try to use it professionally for performance or recording. The actual amp sounds are great, but the cab makes it unusable. It's also not very loud and if you go putting in Vintage Jensens you will lose another 4 db. The best bet is a Jensen Mod10/70 which will give 6db more than a Jensen C10Q - that's DOUBLE the volume. But anyway, good amp (8), bad cab (0).

Just used it for an hour and it didn't break. The power tranny was pretty warm as was the output tranny also. I can't see that the output transformer is up to full speck for this amps output. I larger replacement just LOOKS necessary and if people are having trouble with these it comes as no surprise. The output tranny is a toy one suitable for about 8 watts RMS I would think.

I wanted to like this amp. It is definitely a great sounding amp. I may have recieved a defective one assembly wise but I doubt it. It looks more like a design for manufacturing cost rather than a well Researched and Designed product. I am not going to take another gamble on another as I was surprised at how quiet they are. Best in it's class by far, good sounds terribly inadequate cab.

I used the amp for home practice...and the only transport of it is between rooms...The transformer blew on me 1 year into use. but what a year it was! sadly the transformer would cost $300+ to import which is more than half the price of what I paid for the amp itself so I got myself another amp which i regret having bought now...

I read other forums and found out that this transformer problem with the LC15R is happening around the world. Maybe these are just a few isolated cases, but just think about this problem when you want to buy a LC15R.

Good but not great. The clean sound is really quite disappointing - through any speaker. It is definitely muddy compared with the clean channel on my Marshall 9001 pre-amp. The problem is the pre-amp section of the Laney which has clearly be designed to a very modest price point. Once you turn the gain up and let things get a little dirty it sounds like a valve amp going into overdrive. Very bluesy. Push too far and it just becomes a mess. So there is a sweet spot in terms of the gain control that merits a '9' but it all degenerates to about a '5' either side of this. I would agree with others that a better speaker (I swapped for a Celestion Vintage 10) does improve things but its not world changing experience. The stock speaker is perfectly OK

I can't relate to the problems others have had. I have used it long and hard with no problems. Dangling the valves upside down has got to a be a bad idea long term so I'll give it 9

For the money this is hard (if not impossible to beat) but spend more and you'll get a better clean sound very easily

My amp was bought used from a local band who was closing shop. Apparently the guitarist had the Laney modified and it now sports electro-harmonix tubes all the way through. Not sure which year this amp was made, but it does look beat. It has a nice mechanical reverb unit which does really sound great. The only thing I miss is a headphone out socket like my solid state amp, but I didn't buy this to play soft.

I replaced the speaker with a Jensen, and it did make quite a significant difference. The stock speaker will do, but the replacement is better. This amp is made to be played loud. Playing it soft, with low gain makes it sound no different from any solid state 15w amp. Crank up the gain and master volume and it sounds huge and awesome. Slowly crank up the gain, and it starts overdriving so sweetly till you hit max gain, and it is all out brutal distortion.

I've never had a problem with noise, it is quite silent. This amp is ideal for the stuff I play which is hard rock, blues rock, etc.

Not sure how the stock amp sounds, but the one I have is highly modified, I see a big fat box screwed on to the inside of the chassis which I am told by the previous owner, is a couple of transformers to drive the new electro harmonix tubes. The amp really is loud, and can do a small gig / pub session at a pinch.

Not had a problem with this one. Of course, like all tube amps the tubes need to be replaced when the time comes, so I am prepared for that.

Never contacted them. Anyway my amp is nothing like the stock laney, so the company will probably scratch their collective heads while they wonder what to do with me.

I was torn between this Laney, a Fender blues jr, and a used Marshall which was offered to me by a local musician. In the end I bought this with no regrets. The Fender blues jr is heavy shit at 31 lbs, this is almost 10 lbs lighter and delivers even better sound and tone and actually sounds louder than the fender. The marshall was way out of my price range.

I've been playing with this Laney for a while now and I like it more and more every day. I find myself using the bright switch only occasionally these days, as I'd rather hear the raw tones from the guitar.

It's got good features - everything i would ever use! Only 1 channel, but u can just turn down the volume on ure guitar and play clean, then turn up and hit hard for dirt. I actually use a switchablu volume pot in a foot pedal to clean things up so i have something to stomp on! huge range of tones, will do most things really well from blues to metal. jazz tones are merely passable. Reverb footswitch does'nt come with it but i made one mysulf out of a switch, a bit of wood and some metal plate for like 90p, so im not complaining!

I'm playing 2 modified strats, one with 2 P90s (!), both wired so i can have pickups in series for humbucker sounds, both with heavy-ish strings. Sounded absolutely amazing straight off the shelf, it was nearly as loud as my friends 50 watt Marshall combo and sounded sweet. great sustain on full gain without being hars, but the best are the breakup tones - this amp sings!

Er, well after about two months it blew up...! No smoke, just explosion noises from it when i played a note. Well to be absolutely fair it sounded like a grand piano falling down a very long flight of concrete stairs. it was still under warranty, so the dealer packed it off to Laney. It came back, but now it sounded like a massively amplified bumblebee was numming along to all the low notes. On the low e string below the5th fret the guitar tone disappears completely!. so back to Laney it went. They still have it 5 weeks later.

well i havent been charged anything, and they did fix the first problem, but they kind of broke something else and cant fix it. It's still under warranty (a year is normally long enough to thrash it to make sure anything weedy blows and is replaced) but i'm kinda worried that it's gonna keep dying on me.

Amazing value for the tone, would be the best amp ever if it didnt blow up. If it were stolen, i would probably get another one bcos its the cheapest all valve amp (with reverb) out there and it sounds sublime, and I reckon i was a bit unlucky eith the one ive got. The chances of 2 blowing up...!

It is a 2004 class A/B full valve guitar amplifier with one chanell, with master, reverb, gain controls + 3 band equalizer. It has 5 valves, and it has a Celestion Tube 10 speaker. And it has 2 inputs(Hi/Lo) and a bright switch.

Im playing a custom Stratocaster with one piece mahogany body and Kinmans Woodstock plus pickups, and this boy sings great! I was a little suspicious abaout the lowest price in the class, but I'm satisfied as much as a baby when she gets her new toy. The amp is very versitale, but for a single coiled guitar for some hi-gain sounds i reccomend you to get some overdrive/distortion effect, I'm using a Marshall DriveMaster trough it and I can get tones from blues to trash metal.

I have it for 6 months, no problems, no services. I'll probably install a standby switch.

Never had job with these guys, hope i won't ever.

A great amp. This is a really big suprise cause you can crank him up to get the valves sing!

See other reviews or the Laney website for full specs. Has everything I need except the channel switching, that's why the 9. For the price it's still unbeatable.

Features that I use:

Hi/Lo input -> Match the pickup and the desirable gain level nicely.

3 band eq -> Doesn't make big difference, just fine-tuning as needed

Footswitchable reverb -> I'm using reverb with medium setting so it's nice to be able to switch it off remotely for the funk riffs etc.

Volume & gain & size -> The best features! A tube amp small and quiet enough for the home usage, yet an amp with the real tube sound and power.

I have a strat with single coil pickups. The amp is used at home with relative low volumes without additional effects. It surely sounds like a tube amplifier and offers immediately nice clean or overdriven sounds without any messing. Reverb is surprisingly good with low and medium settings. I was prepared to buy a separate reverb pedal, but there's no need for that.

No experiences on this. For being a budget tube amp I would expect problems if it's not treated tenderly.

Been playing 20 years. I wanted a decent small Tube Guitar Amplifier for the home usage so I could just sit down and relax and play when there's a change to do it. I got one!

I considered of buying Flextone III, but I'm glad I didn't. Instead of playing I would have been tweaking the 32 amp models, 12 effect and 16 cabinet options it offers. With the 16 months old daughter there's no time for tweaking, cause there's hardly time for playing!

Using a gibson LP standard & parker fly. play rock, metal, pop, a little jazz. also use zoom gfx4 with it. sounds very warm and vibrant, sparkling clean to very crunchy. doesnt have quite enough gain for very heavy styles, but takes distortion devices well and warms them. very loud for 15w!
sounds better since tube change to GT EL84s.

reliable for a tube amp. never broken down, but amp chassis seems a little rattley at high volumes

not needed, but website has improved a lot recentley. (downloadable manuals etc.)

The features are pretty well described in the other reviews. Channel-switching would be helpful, but the right overdrive or distortion pedal could fill that void for gigs. It gets relatively loud, but haven't jammed with a drummer to know if it's really loud enough. The FX loop and reverb makes the LC15R a better choice than the LC15. I mainly use this for a practice amp and a little bit on home recording projects. The size, weight and tone make it nearly perfect. I have the stock speaker in my amp, but I could see where changing the speaker could be worthwile and give the tone even more definition.

I'm tempted to rate this high; the tube characteristics are undeniable. The amp has a very, very warm sound and can be driven easily through playing style alone to give it some edge or growl. Tweaking the gain and master volume will give different levels of overdrive between a real clean jazzy sound to blues to hard rock. Different pedals can be used to further define those characteristics or push it up to heavy metal sounds. The gain loses some clarity when turned up, especially at low volume. Turning up the master will clean it up, but I prefer not to play at loud volumes at home. I mainly play a Squier Telecaster and Les Paul Standard through this amp and get great sounds with both guitars. The bottom line is almost always being able to find a tone that just makes you want to play for long periods of time. The reverb is excellent and gives the sound much more depth.

The amp gets a little hot, but so far no problems over the last six months. It's a pretty basic, but solidly built amp. Modifications would be relatively easy for do-it-yourselfers.

Overall, it's a great practice amp. It's a real tube amp with real tube tone that shouldn't disappoint anyone except very discriminating players (but then they'd being buying big stacks and not little practice amps or maybe a high-priced boutique amp). The LC15R is very lightweight and portable, reasonably loud and very versatile. I played a Peavey Classic 30 which sounded somewhat brittle and a Peavey Delta Blues 2-10 which was very nice and very warm, but too big for my needs. I have a Tech 21 Trademark-10 which emulates the tube sound, but lacks the warmth and response that a real tube amp delivers. I also have an Electar Tube 10, which is okay for a low-budget tube amp, but it's not even close in sound quality or versatility to the Laney. I have also played through some different digital amp modelers and nothing beats the real thing. I bought the Laney used on Ebay based only on the reviews I've read and have not been disappointed. There are bigger Laney amps that would probably be great choices, but for a small, versatile practice amp, the LC15R is a killer. These are hard to find, but are definitely worth the effort.

Brand new, came with german power lead. One channel with hi and lo input and bright switch. Gain, bass, middle, treble, volume and reverb at the front, external speaker, line out, footswitch, effects out and effects in jacks at the back, 10" celestion speaker, open back combo. Wish it had a headphone jack socket.

I use it plugged into a closed back Traynor 2x12 vertical cabinet: I don't particularly like the Celestion tone as my ideal tone is British amp with American speakers. It's LOUD and very versatile. Great clarity even at high distortion, decent reverb (I don't know if it's any good as I normally use just a touch). With gain at 5, volume at 2, you get a good Malcolm Young tone, reverse the gain and volume and you get a reasonable SRV. Gain full on and with the neck pick-up you get Santana and early Black Sabbath. Not particularly noisy, unless I use my p90-equipped guitar in front of my computer monitor. The best amp I've owned so far (but then I normally buy at the low end...)

Seems sturdy... survived a few weeks playing with a single power tube (because i felt like experimenting!) Then, again, it's a tube amp, so it's not a good idea to drop it!

I don't think I could ask for more. I'd say that I could use a compressor when I play clean to give more attack to the single note picks and I'd like this amp with a 15" jensen speaker in a closed back cabinet, but if I'd bought this amp first I would have probably never gone through 5 guitars and 5 amps in 3 years. The only way up is custom for me now. It's THAT good... and comparatively cheap. Also: good quality tubes inside.

a tube amp sounds amazing. I should know i have been playing since i was 2, that's 50 years. Back in the day when my balls wern't shrivled and old i had a vox, i think this sounds just like it, i can't really remember wahat it sounded like but i know this is better, ive been playing for 70 years and i've played everything i should knowm, this is the best british sound you'll get even though it was made in korea. A tube awsome. many people have been replaceing the speakers, but I Know much more than you, so I made my own speaker out of a sheet of paper a colander, paperclips and a micky mouse fridge magnet, and Boy, but i am much better than you and know much more, so i'm not going to tell you how to do it as, woo 500 volts is dangerous!
with my custom speaker i get all the bass i need, sometimes my wife likes to sit nakid ontop of my amp whilst i play, on account of the fact i play so much that we haven't had relations for years.

I can see exactly how he stapled on the grate, and he even did a custom job giveing a textured effect to the side pannels and circit bord by dripping glue allover it, that means each one is individual and sounds diffrent. I should know i've been playing for 90 years!
it gets a bit hot, from time to time, thats why i installed a tosheba air conditionar in the back! But woha there sunny, better not touch the amp if you don't know what your doing 200 volts!!! I'm a full time musician, electrition and gigilo!

well i've been playing since i was 1, i can't remember how old i am, so thats about 92 years to the day, so I know everything. Its a tube, sounds great! though not for those freaks who dress in black and say they want to kill them selves yet they never do, you may want to just kill your self and then you don't have to worry about makeing music to try and get others to be like you. Its a great british chinese amp, I don't think any one could steel it as i never leave the house, I just like to sit here and write reviews on HC. Now i have this amp i am happier then a prick in a whore house with a wallet full of cash and a packet of viagra!

15 Watts valve guitar amplifier bought in early 2005, mine is the 2004 model. I think Laney make improvements to this amplifier each year judging by the other reviews. Mine has a Celestion Tube 10 speaker. It seems all of the 5 valves are made by TAD (Tube Amp Doctor?). I think TAD supply valves to a lot of guitar amp makers. anyway, the first gain stage valve is a 'TAD 12AX7/ECC83 Selected', the second gain stage and the phase splitter contain I assume cheaper unbranded (but still TAD I think) 12AX7/ECC83 valves, and for the output valves, two 'TAD EL84-STR Selected' valves.

It has both high and low input sockets, ..gain, bass, middle, treble, volume and reverb knobs, as well as a bright on/off switch. Sockets on the back of the amp are fx send/return, reverb footswitch, line out, and external speaker 8-16 ohms. It doesnt feature a headphone socket. I have changed both the speaker and some of the valves so later I will tell you the difference in sound depending on what valves/speaker you are using. Anyway, even without any speaker or valve upgrades, this is a great amplifier compared to all the digital amps i've used.

Sounds superb. I dont play it clean so can't really comment on its clean sounds, but with the gain/volume pushed the sounds it makes are those 'nasty' (in a good way) snarling growling overdrive tones associated with so many great old rock bands like The Who for example!

I am using a TOKAI SG guitar (decent Gibson SG copy) and I use a Gibson Classic '57 humbucker in it. Im a fan of vintage AC/DC and this amp gets me to that classic type of valve overdriven guitar rock sound, much more so than your typical digital amp.

I upgraded the speaker from the Celestion Tube 10 to a Jensen C10Q as recommended by many others who have reviewed this amp. Im really glad I did too as the main difference is now the bass, middle, and treble controls on the amplifier affect the sound much more. The C10Q speaker sounds better than the Celestion Tube 10 overall, but you get what you pay for at the end of the day. That said though, I dont think the Tube 10 speaker is too bad, I wouldn't say a speaker upgrade is absolutely essential, I'm just fussy that's all. And, it's a pain putting in a new speaker too.. you'll see what I mean if you try it!

As for the valves, the TAD valves which come with the amplifier only have one issue I dont like, and that is if the gain is pushed too hard on the amplifier, the sound just becomes all 'mushy', but this isnt the end of the world, you can always just turn the gain down a bit of course. the TAD valves are quite 'harsh' sounding, but personally I dont think that's necessarily a bad thing. I tried some different preamp valves (2AX7/ECC83) which are called 'electro harmonix 12AX7 EH', and the difference is now I have less of the harsh sound than before, it's more warmer now, and now the sound does not become all mushy when I crank the gain up high. I dont think I will change the output valves, as changing some or all of the preamp valves seemed to work well enough, without the need to start messing around with the output valves too!

The reverb effect sounds good, no complaints here. I don't really use it though so sometimes wish I bought the cheaper LC15 amp instead.

The bright switch doesnt do anything for me because I use a lot of distortion. I think the bright switch is more for people who play the amp clean.

Another good thing I didnt mention about the sound which must be a related to valve amps in general, is if you push the gain up, but hit the guitar strings softly, you still get a cleanish sound, but hit the strings harder and you get the overdrive/distortion sound. This gives you a lot of range with your guitar playing. Messing around with the volume and tone controls on my guitar has a lot more effect too as opposed to using digital amps.

Although it is a 15 watt amp, it doesnt mean it's not loud. I'd think if you are in a band you would have no problem using this for band practice. It's probably ok for small gigs or pubs etc. 15 watts of valve sound is very loud. It's much louder than a 30W digital amp I used to own.

The amp is too new to comment on reliability. It doesnt seem as sturdy as digital amps I've owned, but then I'd much rather have this valve amp than any digital amp out there so I dont care. plus, I imagine if anything does wrong it would be valve related, and they are easily and cheaply replaced. The top of the amp where the valves are gets really hot, but that's normal apparantly.

Almost full marks here as I had some minor problems and issues I wanted to sort out so emailed Laney quite a few times. The response always came back very quick, and friendly etc. The only reason I wouldnt give full marks here is because when I emailed them with annoying questions like "is the amp better with a speaker upgrade?" or "will it sound better with different valves?" I would get reponses like "we like the speaker it uses already" or "our valves go through a lot of testing and we are happy with these". I'd rather they were more honest and said something like "If you buy some Mullard NOS valves on ebay and put them in the amp, you'll be in heaven mate!"

This is my first valve amp I have owned and I definately wont go back to digital amps again. Not that digital amps are all bad, especially perhaps if you like more modern sounds. but, I wanted a more authentic rock tone like something from the sixties or seventies, and this amplifier being all valve gives me that.

Hi! I've buyed this amp in June of 2004. I play blues/rock and this amp fits this style very well.
The most important features (or not) are: 1 channel, effects loop, speaker extension, ... but I didn't like the valves and speaker (Celestion tube 10) that this amp had. I changed these valves to JJ ECC83S, JJ EL84 and a Jensen C10Q speaker. More about this later...

I have an Ibanez GRX170 with 2 humbuckers and 1 single coil.
I've buyed this amp to play at home but 15W is too loud if your not alone in home. Hey, even my other 2 watts amp is loud to play at home !
I wanted to have 1 channel clean and 1 dirty so I've buyed an overdrive pedal, MXR ZW-44. I have the amp with the gain on 3 and volume at 8. This gives me a clean soud and when I click the overdrive pedal, it gives my a nice and hard overdrive sound. The distortion of the amp without the pedal is 100% but now I have more versatility and lower volume.

Now that I have changed valves and speaker I can give it a 10 because the valves shiped sounded harsh and the speaker (Celestion Tube 10) sound boxy. A sh*t ! Other way it deserved a 7 or 8.

Now my sound is more defined, open, clean and when I need it have a great distortion with my pedal or simply with the gain pushed.

Read lot of people talking about heat issues that melted the base valves. I play this at home, but I think the heat it's normal and I don't think I will have problems like other people because now this amp is shipped with ceramic bases for the power tubes.
I haven't had problems with my amp but amps are not for kicking ! So I always have carefull when transporting and so...

Well ... resuming: it's a great little (but loud) amp and it sound great for blues, rock and even hard rock. Not the 'newish' metal.
I love this amp now, but you MUST change tubes and speaker. Otherway it sounds a little bad.
It could have a channel switching but now I have an overdrive pedal and it's working very well with a good distortion.
If it were lost, maybe I try other amps but certainly I would buy another.
Again I will rate a 9 because it sounds good but I wasted more money to sound good.

Bought new Sep 2004, features the Celestion speaker so presume its a newish model, as previous models had the H&H speaker. Two inputs, bass, mid, treble, gain & reverb. Effects loop, speaker extension, line-out facility. 15 all-valve watts of tone/power. For home use I can get all the sounds I need, with my band, which plays rock (not metal) again, everything I want. Would be nice to switch between channels, but, thats why you have a memory - to remember your settings. As such, this is why I don`t give it the full 10 here.

Sounds - how can I describe it? I play a Gibson Les Paul Studio with a Classic 57 Plus in the bridge. For gigs, I use a Laney LH50 II, with a Marshall 1922 2 x12 cab with Vintage 30`s. Decided to use the little Laney last night at a band practice. Awesome. The others laughed at my new "toy" right up til I started playing. They soon shut up then. For a 15 watt amp, this baby cries & sings exactly how I want it to. We are a rock band with drums, bass & 2 guitars, I play rhythm. Well, at our usual practice volume, I set the bass on full, mid on 3, gain on 8 & volume on 5. This enabled me to keep up with a Marshall JCM 900, thru a 4 x 12, with volume on 5. I wasn`t miked up! Classic valve sounds, no scooped stuff here. I don`t think this amp would perform well for that, but as I don`t play that type of music - do I care? Think AC/DC, Velvet Revolver, Hanoi Rocks - that is the sound I need in my band. That is the sound this amp delivers with ease. Easily full marks here.

Only had it 2 weeks, mainly home use, but will practice with my band with it as it saves lugging loads of gear around.
After practice it was barely warm. I`ve heard of some amps being hot enough to fry an egg on, not mine. I wouldn`t gig with it, as personally, I don`t like miked up amps, I prefer the volume to come from the amp - probably why I`m deaf as a post! IMHO this amp would need miking up for gigs. Certainly, if I were doing a 2 piece gig in a small venue I wouldn`t hesitate to use this, but I bought it purely for practice purposes. Can`t really give an opinion here due to it being relatively new.

I`ve been playing since 1982. I have a Gibson Les Paul Studio with Classic 57 Plus pickup in the bridge, a Gibson Melody Maker, a Fender Mexican Strat with Seymour Duncan Jeff Beck pickup in the bridge. Amp-wise, a Laney LH50 II that I bought earlier this year, with a Marshall 1922 cab fitted with Celestion Vintage 30`s. No effects! I like the tone to be as near as what comes from the guitar as possible.Previously I`ve had Fender amps & Marshall amps, but they were always "near but not quite". When I got the Laney head earlier this year I new I`d found what I wanted soundwise. I thenchecked out reviews of the LC15R on this site & began the search for one. I`d heard the Marshall DSL 201 ( no longer made) but it wasn`t as full bodied to my ears. Also costs considerably more,#350 in the shop in which I saw it.
I have to say that for what I bought it for, the LC15R does the job perfectly, and I would definately but another should anything happen to it. I might have an old-fashioned attitude to sound,but forget the new "modelling" amps and buy one of these - let your playing create the sound you hear.

the laney lc15r has all the things it really needs a standby and maybe a headphone jack would be nice to but with line out ,effects loop, reverb footswitch jack ,and speaker ext. in the back and high or low inputs and the reg gain vol bass mid treble and brite switch up front its everything ya need to have ya self a pretty good time and find some useful sounds with. the factory dude who answers emails is a nice ole boy he said all he could say for sure is mine was made before april 99. i use it at home mostly and some times carry it some where ta play it has plenty a power and great drive all the gain i need.

man i hate ta go on here and just amen everybody and say the same old stuff but goodness sakes ya'll they are great lil amps . i use gibson's ,the es 135 with classic 57s is really great with this amp and a les paul with burstbuckers sounds good also ,my son plays strats they work in this lil pup as well.i play older rock an blues and some country lil a this an lil o that and this thing does em all real good,and it does em with the 10 inch speaker it's the first amp with a ten i've hugged up to and then ya plug it inta a 12 inch celestion and ur cookin with CHARCOLE brother i can't get enough of it ya'll.

?i got mine off ebay and after about 3 weeks it pulled over.. but was jus the output tubes and the fuse, it looked like the tubes had never been changed and the dude i got it from said he beleived it was just like it was when new nuttin been changed or maintained. also they could a got bounced at ups it was packed fairly well but u no they can get ruff anyhow i like ta keep some tubes round and theys other lil amps round here if i needed one a while.

ya'll i been playin a good while i started out round 1967 playin bass and kinda jus worked my way over ta guitar. i gotta blues jr, 2 line 6s that got here by tradin stuff round , a peavey classic 20 my son kidnapped,i just sold a epiphone galaxie 10 and a peavey classic 30 all economic attemps at finding tone for a non rich player and out a those in my mind only the classic 20 comes close to the laney.i love about this amp the way u can make it clean or dirty with ur fingers or ur guitar vol knobs hell it don;t even need 2 channels.if it were stolen man i would want another one yes i would today.in closin i;ll say i am not one ta roll along with the crowd but as far as these lil laney's go i'll have ta boogie along with the other cats and dolls who have discovered real sweet tone without tearin a big o hole in the ass of their ole faded jeans thank ya'll good o boys for ya'lls reveiws which along with these amps class A operation status gave me the cajunas ta throw down 2 hundred and 2 dollers without hearin this lil sweetie thankie thankie thankie

I love this amp. Its perfect for home use and for small gigs. The speaker was a bit muddy and boxy so I replaced it with a Jensen P15R. This amp is simply brilliant and gorgeous

It doesnt have anything very fancy, only the usual gain, treble middle and bass controls, but for home practice this is all I need. I have had to gig with it at a 200 capacity venue and it rose to the challenge. I couldnt really stand with my back to it and thrash away, but hey, it sure sounded good and thats the main thing. Loved my pedals too! I use a Fulldrive 2 from Fulltone, a vintage VOX wah and a couple of old BOSS pedals. The amp loved them all and they loved it :)

I mianly use this for practicing, but I play beatles/Who/Small Faces/ SRV kind of stuff, blues Rock and a bit of country. This amp fits all.

Brilliant. I replaced the speaker with a Jensen as above, but this amp sounds great. Warm, well rounded and thick. If you play heavy metal and want an amp with a whole bunch of effects then take a look around in some shops for something else. All-Valve probably isnt the way forward for ya. Maybe try the Marshal DFX range. Dont bother with the Orange Crush 15R. That thing is dreadful. This is a perfect practice amp and useful for falling back on if your Matchless packs up :)

I use an old Tele Custom and a Vintage SG. This amp works well with them both and complements the tone of both intruments.

No issues. I know I'll need to replace the vlaves after about a year but that just maintainence really.

I couldnt give it more praise. If it got stolen I'd buy another one quicker than you can say 'bugger'.

Highly versitile great sounding amp

My LC15 R is one of the new models with a celestion 10" speaker. It's a beautiful little amp, well put together. Even though this amp has only one channel, it is very versatile. You can dial in an extensive range of gain and tones using the gain, bright switch, and tone controls. I will be using this amp to record in my home studio.

I use a broad range of guitars, including strats, SGs, Ibanez musician. Single coils and HBs. This amp is usable on almost all styles of music except nu metal, which could be easily remedied by throwing a tube screamer or other aggressive overdrive in front of it. It's no noisier than other tube amps. The clean channel doesn't exactly clean up all the way, but that too could be taken care of by changing out the stock tubes for a set of JJs. I stumbled onto this amp at a local store and was blown away by its outstanding class-A tube tone. Bought it after playing through it for about three minutes. I feel like I got a Hot Rod Deville for half the price. The sweet, sweet harmonics are just beautiful.

It's a well-made amp in a sturdy cabinet. I wouldn't hesitate to use it for a gig, either miced up or pushing a 4x12 cab.

Never had to speak to the Laney folks, but I hear they are responsive.

I've been playing for about 25 years. I own many amps, including Mesa, Marshall, Randall, Crate, Sunn, Yamaha and Peavey. If my LC15 R was stolen, I'd replace it without thought. I love its tone, I love that it is low-powered class A, I love it's good looks. The only thing I would change about it would be to build it with a 12 in it instead of a 10, but since it has the sp out jack, even that is just nit-picking.

I am updating my previous review from 2001 (further down the page) so I am not going to give any details, it's already covered many times.

As good as the stock amp sounds, I do recommend changing the tubes. 'JJ ECC83S's are highly recommended, adding a little extra colour to the basic sound of the amplifier, somewhat deeper bass and sharper highs, though staying very sweet. As of late 2003, Sovtek EL84s are good reliable tubes, and good value for money. JJ EL84s are also highly recommended by others I know of with the same amp, though I have not tried them yet myself.

Clearly a speaker upgrade from the original HH Invader is recommended by many people (though the amp is now shipped with a Celestion Tube 10). Jensen C10Q or P10R are often recommended choices. When played through a good 12" speaker, I find the amp is a real joy.

My LC15R has been extensively gigged (130+) over the last three years and I have never had a problem. True, there were some issues with early models, but those issues were fixed many years ago. I did have to resolder the EL84 tube sockets to the PCB, but that was entirely due to rough handling on my part while changing tubes (BE CAREFUL, new tubes can be a very tight).

No comment - I have never had to deal with Laney.

I have been playing for 16 years(?), semi-full time profession for three years (rock, pop, blues, and a little jazz). Overall sound quality is great, and can be even further improved. Reliability has been exceptionally good for me, even with the large number of gigs it has done and some pretty rough handling at times.

I will continue to highly recommend this amp. It's great for recording, great live, and very portable.

Made in 2002 I believe. Hi and Lo inputs, Gain, Bass, Mid, Treble, Volume and Reverb controls on chicken heads. It has a bright push button control that adds some presence. It has FX send and return, line out and ext speaker (8-16 Ohms) on the back panel. It also has a footswitch socket for the reverb but Laney don't see fit to supply the actual footswitch itself.

It has 3 pre-amp and 2 power-amp valves and delivers 15 watts through a 10inch HH Invader speaker (more about that later).

I use this amp for rehearsals, jamming around and contemplative doodling. It is compact, lightweight and it didn't wack my budget too severely. It also goes to gigs as a backup to a Marshall 601 with a 2 x 12 ext Marshall/Celestion cabinet which gives great voice to the Laney too.

The power is ample (and some) for smaller pub-like venues. The cabinet is robust.

Patrick Eggle and a Strat with FL Gold P/U. The Eggle has an active tone which compensates for no 2nd channel. The Strat is to be modified with a 25dB boost and I am confident that either guitar will sound silky smooth to damn angry through this little monster with little effort.

In Star Trek terms, this amp would sell to Klingon rockers!

Noise is acceptable for a tube amp, recording shouldn't present a big challenge.

The draw back is the speaker, sorry guys. I paid out for a Jensen P10-R which said goodbye to the boxiness and hello to a formidable tone that Fender Twin owners need to beware of especially when they are side by side in smaller venues where big amps can fall on their rumps when used inconsideratly. Less is more and this amp proves the point if tone is what you are wanting.

I would give it 7 with the HH speaker and 10 with the Jensen. If you can get one, a Celestian Vintage 10 would be a good choice too, I suspect.

Reliability and dependability are down to you the owner because it's you that uses or abuses it. If it's going to break down within the first few weeks of use then look to Laney if your conscience is clear. I have had mine just under a year with no problems.

Just remember, throw your leads etc in a bag or box and not in the back of the cab. If the reverb lead is yanked it will pull out the phono connector requiring the chassis to be removed in order to push it back in. A few inches of Duck Tape will secure the lead semi-permanently.

I haven't had to call on Laney, so I can't rate them. Standard warrenty.

I bought mine from Amen Corner Music at Binfield, Berks and they treat their customers very well so I can rate them highly. I can't give them less than 10 because they have supported me so well with stuff I've broken or needed since I've known them.

I've played for 30 years plus and own three good valve amps. The LC15R, a Marshall 601 with 2x12 cab and a Traynor Custom 40. Each amp has a time and place to be used which is the best comparison I can think of. They all play tranny amps out of town and I've heard plenty of them in my time.

The LC15R filled a niche. It doesn't come off too badly against my mate's Cornford Hurricane either and that's saying something.

If the LC15R was lost or stolen, I would buy another, but do a deal on a good speaker from the off.

I love it's all round versatility and how it can wipe smiles off the faces of "Big Amp" merchants. I hate unplugging it. I wish it had a reverb foot pedal, but what the hey!

I will deduct 3 points for the supplied speaker, although I believe they come with a low end Celestian unit now, but check it out. You can buy a 15 watt tranny amp for at least 100 GBP less than this so I think that Laney are just being weak-kneed not putting in a speaker to do the whole thing proper justice.

Single channel, with hi and lo inputs, 1x10 class-a valve amp with reverb. Bought it as a pracitce amp for upstairs at home and for slinging in the car for an impromptu jam when I don't have the need or time for a 100watt 2x12 and pedal board. Very loud little amp and perfect for what I use it for.

Fantastic. Spin the gain up to 6-7 and you have british marshall tube tone in abundance. Turn down the volume on your guitar and the tone cleans up nicely (so long as its a decent guitar). Pure blues territory.

Leave the gain fairly high and put an overdrive pedal (like my ibanez ts808) and it can shred and squeal like anything else.

Turn the gain down on the amp and you have a gorgeous square tone that suits a coil split strat and hendrix riffs down to the ground.

Never let me down in five years of use.

I've been paying for 15 years, have played strats, prs and ibanez guitars through the amp. I also use an ibanez ts808 tubescreamer and a morely wah though it.

I do own other more powerful amps but this little fella is a fantastic practise or portable amp that gives beautiful tone without breaking you back or bank balance.

I think it was made in 98-00 but im not really sure as i bought it second hand.It is a 15 watter but it is very loud. It is all valve with 3 in the pre-amp and 2 in the power amp. I'm not sure what valves they come with but i have got them uprated. It only has one channel which is a bit of drawback but it does cover clean and dirt very well but is a bit of a problem if you want to keep the natural sound of the amp(i.e no pedals) you can't switch between loud and distorted and quiet and clean mid-song.One good thing is the fx loop but i dont use pedals they just thin my tone out too much.

I use a maverick chaos 1(and others) and i play just about ne thing except heavy metal( i know the maverick is a metal guitar but i buy guitars for playability and sound not looks) The amp is suited to more bintage overdrives and is not really a netal amp. Its sound can approach a Marshall if you push the mids and crank the gain. The clean sound is very good with both single coils and humbuckers, I have guitars with both.This is all round a good amp but if ya want metal look harder.oh yeah valves rule for natural distortion.

Aint stop working in a year. Feels robust . Just a tip dont gig without a backup. things happen.

Fabulous for a 110 combo - I replaced the speaker with a Weber and it is slightly better, but even HH is fine.

I use this amp in all live shows of my blues-jazzy band and this serves as an amp for my GR-33 synth while the effects return input is used in a series either with my divine sounding THD Univalve or Gibson GA-15RV ... the latter is probably an ideal blues-jazz combination for any gig I can imagine ...

Laney per se deserves 9.2-9.5 for tone as compared to 10 that I'd give to THD Univalve or BiValve, or as compared to 9.7 of Trace Elliott designed Gibson GA-15RV, but given it costs only $230 and is only 11kgs I consider it the most useful piece of gear in my huge arsenal ... who needs POD after this ...

an incredible, soulful sound. the clean sound is great, but the overdrive is where it really shines. it's very easy to drive the power-tubes of the amp into break-up, so you get that wonderful natural sound that you can only get from a cranked valve amp, while remaining at reasonable volumes.

the reverb on the amp is much deeper than most amps i've played; when it's turned up high, it really envelopes the sound in a very natural way. very cool if you want ambience.

the amp takes on a totally different character when running through an extension cabinet...it goes from a vintage sound to a much more in your face, hard rock sound. i've put it through a marshall 4 x 12 and it sounds amazing, if hard rock is what you are after.

does it have any faults? not really, imo. i guess it has a little less low end than some other amps (because of the 10' speaker), but that has never been an issue for me...in fact, i quite like it because it removes that low-end rumble you get when playing low chords, or palm muting, and it will never sound muddy.

Almost 4 years on, and no problems.

I've been playing and gigging for about 12 years. I bought this amp to replace a Fender Twin Reverb. The Twin is a great amp, but, of course, it is next to impossible to get any natural distortion out of it. I was tired of using pedals, so I tried a few different amps and settled on this one. No regrets at all.

i get a real nice clean when i lower the gain to about 0.8 and crank the volume, the reverb isn't too bad. The distortion is grainy and buzzy but not in a really really bad way, yeah you need pedals to do most metal but it can handle classic rock with high output pickups. It doesn't have a tight bottom end (mine turns to undefined mud)it's also noisy at high gain settings, the bright switch works but it can make the sound harsh and 2D.

The amp works well with humbuckers and single-coils, i havn't tried new tubes yet.

hmmm, hard to say, i wouldn't drive it really hard. i've used it neally every day and it hasn't broken yet (2 months so far) it can get hot.

the combo casing is all right, its sturdy and could probably be thrown down some stairs and still remain in one piece.

nothing much to say, you usually have to deal with the shops, laney seem to avoid direct customer contact.

beats any solid state or digital amp by miles when it comes to actual playing.

i'm quite happy with this amp, i should be using it for a long time.

I just got this amp brand new and I think it is made in 2002 or 2003. It has one channel, two inputs (hi&lo), gain, volume, reverb and three band EQ. Pretty simple. Then there's FX loop which I haven't tested yet. Very usable feature is the external speaker jack which disables the (bad) built-in speaker. I has three ecc83s and two EL84s. 15 tube watts.
It is very versatile but it'll a need second channel to be used in live performances. When recording this thing is at its best. You can crank it on more rational volumes than most of the good sounding tube amps in the market. It is also very small and light which makes it easier to lug around.

I use both humbucking and single coil equipped guitars and this seems to fit them pretty well. The amp sounds really good and it gives you nice blues and rock tones. Also brutality is there when you crank it to the max (which is not something to test at home, 15 tube watts is just too loud for that). Thats probably the best sound this amp has to offer.
The stock speaker is kind of crappy. I tried to run my Laney through my other amp's 12" speaker and that improved the sound somewhat. I haven't tried with a 4*12" but I believe it will sound much better than with the stock 10".

With a good speaker the rating would be ten (especially for the cheap price)

I haven't had it for long, so it is hard to tell. No problems this far. It seems reliable. I like to run it fully cranked (some amps tend to blow if used this way) so I will be using a back up with it.

I don't know about this either. Hopefully it is reliable and I don't need any customer support.

Well I've beem playing for about 10 years. I've got several guitars but this is my first real tube amp (I've had pretty good hybrids thou) and would replace it if it was stolen or lost.
This amp is extremely good sounding for the price. I compared it to everything that there was available at it's price range (mostly solid state) and this was the winner. Sure if I had waited for long enough I could have found even better used amp (with probably too much power to use power amp distortion).

I wish it had more channels/switching so it would be more usable live. Also it needs a better speaker. But still in spite of these shortcomings it is a really good amp for the price.

I'm a guy from Denmark who bought this amp in 2000 as my first tube amp after trying a lot of other models, and more expensive amps. I think this one has VERY good features for the price; All tube circuit (3*12ax7 + 2*sovtek El84), reverb, both Low - and High gain input, and rather unusual for the price, an Effecs-loop. It only has one channel, and the only thing i could wish more is another cannel and a little more varity of the distortion. But im very satisfied with what its got.

This is a very good sounding amp! It's not a warm and hot sound, like fender or marshall amps, but rather has a Crystal clear, "glaslike" sound. I Guess this a typical British amp, that resembles the Vox sound pretty good. This is not the amp for Heavy Metal, or other high-gain styles, but i belive it would be perfect for Britt-pop/rock or more clean sounding bands such as REM. I mostly play it clean, 80'ies pop/rock, and low-gain crunch rock. I am playing a "DeArmond Starfire" with Humbuckers, throgh a "Behringer Virtualizer" multieffectsprocessor, and an "ART Levelar Tube Compressor".

No major problems after 3 years now. The only thing I can mention is that the "low input" was a little lose, but it was easy to fix.

Never had to contact them.

I have been playing for 5 years now, and becoming more and more interested in Sound quality, and this amp still satisfies me. If you're have the same interrest, if you mosly plays with clean or crunch - sound, and you dont have to play Extremly loud, this amp is worth to try.

For the price, a seven I think. Bright switch, boingy spring reverb. Pity the effects loop is serial. That means you have to *watch* the levels coming out of your effects. The return goes straight to the powerstage - as there is no 'master level' or second level control, you'll enjoy the sound of a speaker coming apart if you're not careful. I play a CIJ Fender Jaguar. (Pickups on their way out, wink wink to CIJ owners!)

Weehaa. *Very* good sounds up to the end of the input gain knob scale. Around there it tends to disintegrate into some.. surprisingly unfunky blblrrrr moving-heavy-furniture kind of blow-*ss. Might work for leads/solos though. But as others have suggested, use your favourite eleven-izer if the 'high' gain distortion here does'nt speak to you. The rest of the range is great, I promise. Later I might try another speaker or valves in there, but it's just fine for me as it is. Great for taking the edge of some digital sounds (softsynths, processed, sampled things) as well.

Hmm... No issues so far. I've had it for ..10 months? I've seen the remarks about the valves being mounted upside down and all that. Probably a corner they 'had' to cut. Would love to see a deluxe version of this amp. Perhaps a 2x10 (or a slightly more impressive single speaker), parallell loop, hmm... an analog chorus/vibrato effect, standby switch. Any takers?

Been a fan of the guitar for ..20 years? Played it (with ..eh an ambition) for 3. My first amp. I use it with some effects including Roland RE-201 tape echo/reverb, Boss PH1R phaser, DC-2/3 chorus pedals, Zoom 9050 (love the distortions), Line6 echo pro and an Ensoniq DP/2.

I was thinking of a model in the vox cambridge series, but they were gone when I had the cash. I would definitely buy it again. Unless the lottery hit me over the head and I'd try an AC15/30 or Fender 59' Bassman reissue.

This is my first all tube amp, there IS NO GOING BACK! There are many reviews detailing all the features of this wonderful little amp. I'm very happy with the reverb tank. I purchased it second hand for 60 pounds(the best deal I've ever gotten because it was essentially new). Has original tubes. I use this amp at home for the moment, but I have no doubt that it could hold its own at the club(especially with an extension cabinet).

I absolutely LOVE the tone of this little treasure. Its not for thrash tones, but like mentioned elsewhere it gets a great warm rock tone. Noise is only present when I use an overdrive pedal. I can't find a bad sound even if I try. Everything sounds warm and inviting. I simply can't believe how good it sounds for its size, until I look around back and see those five tubes just a glowing. Using an overdrive has kept me from having to crank it because it is very loud. I give it a ten based on tone vs size and cost.

I have had absolutely no problems with this whatsoever, though I've only had it for about six months.

I admit that the Laney site leaves alot to be desired. I bought this second hand so there's no manual. Contacting the company is rather difficult. But I still commend them on putting out such a nice product.

I've been playing for about 12 years and have owned alot of amps in the past(Fender, Marshall, Crate, Vox, you name it). This one eclipses them all with ease. I wouldn't get rid of this treasure for anything now. I play Washburn and Ibanez guitars and it sounds fantastic. I plan on buying an extension cabinet soon so I can explore the possibilites even more. I highly recommend this amp.

Single channel ALL tube amp with reverb, effects loop and line-out. For a 15w amp it has more features than any other amp in it's class - that's why it's a 10/10. Has external speaker option for those who don't believe that this amp is very loud!

The BEST sounding amp I have ever played! Forget anything solid-state, hyrid with tube in pre-amp, or any modeling amp. This amp kills them all. Don't let it's size fool you, this amp roars!

Warm little amp that just oozes tone. The distortion is not a buzz-saw like a Marshall, not flabby like a Fender, and not nasal like a Vox. Closest match would be the warm bluesy Mesa/Boogie (not the rectifier models of course).

This amp was loud at anything above 2! This probably is the best amp out there for driving both the pre-amp tubes and the power-amps while not blowing your eardrums.

I guess that's what a warranty is for. I have heard horror stories about some Laney amps blowing transformers and one in particular that blew the amplifier unit inside. However, these were older and a different model. I'd but it, then thrash it to make sure that any part that is wimpy will blow and be replaced within the warranty period. Sorted!

The Laney website was a let down. No real contact information. Downloads of manuals for a select few amps is available. In the day of the Global Village that the internet is, this is unacceptable.

The best bang for your buck. It's a real winner! It's cheaper than the Fender Blues Junior and the Vox AC15. Who would've thought so much tone and sound from such a little amp.

Single Channel, Peramp 3x12 AX7, Poweramp 2xEL84 ( I changed with Groove Tubes ), 10" HH Speaker, Gain, Master, footswitchable Reverb, 3 Band EQ, ext. Speaker, Line Out, FX Loop, Hi/Lo Input. Output power 15 real loud Watts. It is a very light weight amp and very gig - friendly. For bigger events I play two of them.

I play a 89Strat with Lace Sensor Gold, a PRS Santana SE. I use a Fulltone Fulldrive 2, T-Rex Tremster and Replica Pedal and sometimes a Carl Martin stereo Chorus, especially when I play my two LC15R together. The Sound is what I ever had looked for. Both guitars sound wonderful warm, with clear but not harsh hights and not muddy basses, some 12" Combos often sound. I play most blues and fusionjazz. I set the preamp near 10. This is an clean setting. For crunch and lead sounds I boost the amp with the wonderful Fulldrive 2 Pedal. The basic sound of the amp is excellent. It is very pedal friendly. And the best is a real tube sound and dynamic without playing too loud. My band loves it too.

This is not the best. Laney build the Tube Sockets not on the chassis. The components seemed not very stable. If they build a new special edition with better components and tube sockets - maby handwired - I would by it.

Very surprising - this amp is great for recording, delivers excellent tone. Doesn't touch the VOX AC-10 (a rare, brilliant little combo), but still delivers the goods. I've enjoyed recording with this, and I imagine it'd be pretty good for home practice. Not that noisy too.

It's a bit rattle-prone at higher volume levels, mostly cos it's so small and the valves are rattled by the speaker I expect. Generally sturdy though. I've had good results with Laney in the past.

Brilliant little valve amp. I've been playing 5 years and would seriously consider using this amp for recording a lot, the tones with the right instrument are top notch. I've only given it an 8 cos I've used a VOX AC-10 and that's got one of the best tones I've ever heard.

One major new development here: it appears the Laney LC15s now come with Celestion speakers as standard. I just received a new LC15R from my local guitar shop, only to open the box, expecting an HH, only to find a Celestion V-10 in there. I looked them up, and they are a fairly new low end Celestion, and I believe they are used in Ashdown Peacemakers. Perhaps laney have been reading reviews on this website, as a whole load of people have changes the HH speaker for Celestions and been very pleased with the result.

I have spent many an hour playing an LC15 in the past. That model as probably from around 97 or so. What i can say is that the sound of this one is much smoother - it doesnt have the harsh top end of the HH speakered one. It also seems to have a bit more bass and warmth.

Basically, I love the sound - this is what you call tone. The cleans and breaking up sounds are some of the best I have ever heard. With low/medium output pickups, it never really gets heavier than about Van Halen level distortion. As everyone else has said this is not a thrash amp. But it rocks beautifully - loads of fat, warm, edgy (in a good way) sustain. You cant really get a bad sound out of this amp. I am trying to find something critical to say about the tone of this thing, but there really isnt anything.

Compared to an older model my cousin has, I think the build quality has gone down a little. I guess that to provide this much tone for #200 then something had to give, especially considering the celestion speaker and the fact that it is UK made. It all has a very hollow and light feel to it. Still, it aint going out of the house.
I've only had it for a day, so wont rate it for reliability yet.

This amp is ideal for the home. It is valve and only 15 watts so you can turn it upo and get the best of the tone, compared to say a 50 or 100 watt Marshall. It sounds gorgeous, and would be perfect if you had a home studio and wanted a top guitar sound. I dont think there is anything out there that can do what this does.

2002 Made, The amp is reasonably versatile It goes from some of the nicest clean tones i've heard to JUST short of a metallica crunch with the right humbuckers of course into the high-input.. but theirs always pedals for that kind of use.

Power.. it has enough power for practicing and rehersals but it needs PA'ing up at gigs but thats pretty normal most people PA up half stacks at gigs because it makes sound checks easier etc.

Suits my musical style very well which is a blend of Satch, Vai, Petrucci, Gilbert.

It gets slightly noisy on Gain 10 but I use a Behringer Vamp2 infront of the amp to produce gain, this amps clean channel thought is unbeatable for it's price range believe me!

The clean channel starts to break up on my humbuckers at about volume 5, with the pre-amp set to 3.. I can get it to volume 10 with pre-amp to 3 with a the middle single coil. depends what kind of sounds you like.

Brutal? it doesnt do brutal too well.. it's more of a Rock/Clean/Blues amp but believe me stick a MetalZone or a POD or Vamp2 infront of it and it does Brutal very clear not a bit muddy.

Yea I'd gig without a backup but i'd take replacement tubes.

I'd replace it if it were stolen with the same amp or maybe a JCM800 half stack not sure if I need that kind of power though.

I compared it to a WIDE selection of low wattage valve amps and it sounded the best.

Single channel 15 watt 1x10 class A combo with reverb & effects loop. HH invader speaker (Laney). Mine is silver anniversary model in silver tolex with telecaster knobs.

Clean sparkly strat tones to fat Les Paul crunch and lead. Great for blues and classic rock. Reverb works well. Its not the best sounding speaker in the world but its tone improves dramaticaly as the volume goes up. I am toying with putting a Jenson speaker in but do not know if it would really be any better in the small cab. This amp is VERY VERY LOUD. It works well with overdrive, fuzz and all of my analogue effects placed in a seperate loop into the front end of the amp using a Boss LS2 to switch between effected and non-effected sounds.

I bought this amp second-hand and the tubes are non original (which can only be a good thing). I play it several times a week at high volume for several hours (I am lucky enough to have a place to practise in a non residential area). I often slam a Big Muff or Marshall Bluesbreaker into the front end. It gets thrown in the boot of my car and gets humped and banged around. I have owned it for approx six months and the only problem I have had is to have had to tighten the amp chassis screws where vibration has loosened them. As I say I play this thing at max volume for hours on end.

I have been playing in excess of 30 years and have a very broad range in musical tastes. This thing has incredible tone for the price. Its as cheap as chips (even new its only #200). It would be better with a 12inch speaker and bigger cab but hey then it would be more expensive and heavier.

This is just a brief review as I only Demo'd this amp today. I'll post a more complete review in a couple of weeks time.

The features of this amp have to be reviewed in the light of what the amp is...a 15W class A, 1x10 inch speaker, single channel amp. Laney has seen fit to add reverb, bright switch, an FX loop and a speaker out option. So overall I think it is quite well specified. The only thing I'd like to see is a "Standby" switch, but I can live without it.

This is where the amp gave me a pleasant surprise! I mean c'mon...just look at this thing, it's a toy right? Wrong! This amp is capable of putting out some serious tone, and loud. I play in a sequenced Duo so I don't have to play over a Drummer or Bassist, so I have no doubt it will cut on stage. I also think it it would be fine for use in a REAL band as long as your Drummer is not too heavy handed. I once played in a band where I could hardly here my old JCM800 stack (yep, 2 QUADS) over a Drummer!!!

Whilst the Laney has it's own definate "sound", it proved to be quite versatile; differing combinations of gain, volume and EQ allowing me to get a variety of tones ranging from clean twang, acoustic-ish strummer to heavy rock drive. It seemed to respond well to changes in dynamics, pick-ups and volume control. I used a Godin SD(beautiful guitar!) which has a fat strat Pick-up configuration. This guitar allowed me to access a wide variety of useful, practical sounds and textures. Easily at home at any gig!

I brought my YAMAHA DG STOMP pedal along and plugged it into the FX return and noticed the HUGE difference the valve output stage made to the 'STOMP. Awesome! It was all too easy to generate creamy feedback and overtones. And all at non ear shattering volumes. The use of something like the 'STOMP clearly expands the tonal capabilities of this amp. For those of you who want the more extreme sounds they too can be found here with a little help from your favourite outboard device.

I couldn't help but notice the difference the 10" speaker made. The mids seemed to be more clearly defined, maybe as a result of less bottom end. This isn't to say that this amp has no low frequencies, it handle muted palm riffing extremely well but your not going to get as low a frequency response out of a 10" as you will with a 12". Obviously if this is a problem you could use the external speaker out!

Obviously it's a bit hard to post a score here as I haven't taken delivery yet. I must admit that this amp has had mixed reviews in this area. This does concern me a bit, however, the DG STOMP, being a modelling pre-amp, has speaker emulators and can be made so sound halfway decent when put direct into a desk. So the plan here is to duplicate my patches- one lot for the Laney and another lot for going direct. Just in case...

The amp seemed well made but I could see where corners had been cut, eg. the spring retaining clip on the valves were fairly flimsy,the control knobs weren't all perfectly aligned and some seemed to have a different feel to them. This is all to be expected, considering the price. Hopefully LANEY haven't sacrificed the quality of the circuitry. Time will tell.

Yep, it's fair to say that I'm impressed with this little amp. To be honest I'll probably feel a bit "underdressed" the first couple of times I walk into a venue with the LC15R in my hands! But I'll be resting secure with the knowledge of the awesome tones it can generate. And how that translates into more enjoyable and creative guitar playing!

These amps are definately worth a look at. And if your honest with yourself about your amplification needs they can make a @#%&load of sense!

Made in 2002. Single channel amp with reverb, effects loop, line out and speaker cab extension. I bought this amp for small gigs, rehearsals and playing at home. This is a loud amp for its size.
A stand-by switch would have been a useful feature.

I use a deluxe Strat with 3 noiselss single coils and a Yamaha Pacifica 112 with stock pickups s-s-h configuration. I would say that it suits the hotter pickups and darker tone of the Pacifica better.I play mainly jangly pop - this amp does that fairly well. I sometime use a 1 x12 cabinet with a Vintage 30 speaker. It adds a lot more depth and volume to the amp. There's some sustain in the amp when cranked but not as much as I like.
In overview this amp needs to be run at moderate volume levels to get the best out of it.
It does get a bit noisy but it's bearable.

Owned the amp for 6 months and it hasn't missed a beat so far. As this is a budget amp the construction/materials are not first class. I try to limit any damage due to heat by running a small fan behind the amp. I think if it did break down then it would be fairly cheap to fix up.

12 months warranty. Have not dealt with customer services.

My main set-up is a Boogis Triaxis and 50/50 power amp. Rocktron Intellifex and few pedals. The Laney comes now where close to this but does it's own thing very well. In summary a very compact, light, tube amp that provides basic but useful features, useable range of nice tones all at a good price.

Its got all you need for a practice amp , but dont let pracitice amp fool you this thing is loud it has two inputs high and low but only one channel so no two in to one , it has a extension speaker output at the back which if you have a 2x12 will shock you as it gets better sounding with the cab ,also has reverb which isnt valve driven but who cares the rest of it is all class A with 3 ecc 83 and two el84's
for a house amp they DONT COME ANY BETTER only headphone socket would have been nice for ease of recording and not to annoy the rest of the street!

using a strat and les paul this thing will work for either . on its own your not going to sound like heavy metal stuff but crunch and overdriven blues crisp and clean it is all there , stick a fuzz box on it for death metal head banging it will do it no problem .I dont like the middle on it not my cup of tea so the highest that goes is 2 but more often its on 0. Through a 2x12 or larger this sounds AWeSOME

its a valve amp and as such they can be problematic i have had a few jobs done on it loose wire new jack inputs etc but we are talking bugger all much money spent here and after all though it could be better for reliability here are a few pointers as to why they seem to die - the valves work loose in the seats a bit to often making it sound like its dead or at half vol if it is one of the power valves , when i had mine the valves were stuck round with some type of silicone
(like bath sealant ??) it worked untill i changed the valves for older ones I quickly found the fault though they do lossen off now and again but who cares a quick hand round the back and give them a little twiddle and off we go again for a couple of wekks no prob

If your after an amp in the sub #300 mark new this has to be one of the best bar none if your after a used amp in the sub #150 bracket this is the one dont bother with the lc15 no reverb an they are only a little cheaper this little amp sounds nearly as nice, no at the volumes for the home this amp is better than my vintage fender bassman
its true ! Though wind the bassman up to window breaking levels and that is the dogs danglies the laney wouldnt be in that league in a million years but then it dosent cost vintage fender money .
I would have another anyday of the week at this price can you afford not to have one?

It is verry, verry cool little 15 watt amp, but it's very loud. + FX send, return, fantastic reverb, but only 1 channel.

Purchased 6 months ago (2002). Nice little 15 watt class A single channel tube amplifier, usual 3-band EQ, Bright switch, gain, volume and spring reverb. Has an effects loop that I never use and an external speaker socket, which I'll never use either, since the amp is really only a "practice amp". It doesn't have a headphone socket, which seems a little daft. I like the way it's simple and unclutterd, as it lets you concentrate on playing rather than twiddling knobs. For it's intended use, it has all the features needed.

My main guitar is a new style USA Deluxe strat, although I've had/have other guitars and amps. It sounds excellent with the strat, nice and 'shimmery' clean sounds. When the gain is turned up a bluesy/rock sound is available, which provides a rich gutsy and gritty sound. In a word, this amp does clean - bluesy rock/rock sounds SUPERBLY. I've had big amps, namely a Marshall JCM900 and this sounds better at bedroom volumes! The reverb is good as well, with a subtle change in severity as you tweak the control. The EQ controls work very well too. The bright switch adds extra shimmer and sparkle to clean sounds. It can get surprisingly loud, but too my ears, any amp too loud sounds a bit cack, so it stays at moderate volume. The amp doesn't sound as clever with humbucker equiped guitars, like an SG or Les Paul, but that might be my bias, as I've played them all and always come back to the strat!

The amp doesn't seem to be expertly made. But one must remember that this amp is a low cost affair and I believe sound is King. However, saying that, it is sturdy and has metal corner brackets, were marshalls have platic ones.

I hear a lot of people saying that speakers and tubes need to be changed etc. I say "if it ain't broke don't fix it". Besides, the amp would lose it's edge if expensive, frankly uneccessary parts where added.

I don't think anyone would take this amp 'on the road', or turn it up full blast for hours on end. It wasn't designed to be used like that, so why should it be built like that?

I haven't had any problems with it yet and couldn't seeing anything going wrong with it in the near future.

Hope to never have to deal with them.

An excellent little amp thats ideal for the home/studio and even small gigs. I tried out other little valve amps; including the Fender offerings and many others and found the Laney to be the best and the least expensive of the lot! Another plus is that its made in England and since I'm English, I should support local Industry! I would buy it again and I would reccomend you do the same - you can't lose!

Made in 2000? All sorts of jacks I don't use. Only 1 Channel. No Headphone jack. Not enough power to gig with. Great for at home recording and playing with another small amp. I'm giving features an 7 cause there is no reverb. I would have of given it a 9 or 10 if the reverb worked. Also, I would have preferred a separate gain channel.

I'm using Les Paul and Strat style guitars and both are great. I really like this amp for low vol. at home type rock, pop, jazz, fusion etc... nice sound. No noise. Great variety with your own added effects (sparkle drive, phaser, wah) Clean is beautiful. My only complaint is the speaker is too small. They should of used a 12" I've tried to gig with it and it was too small against a pa, drums, keyboard and bass. I would of liked to use it for gigs because it is so light but I have to haul my 40 plus lbs. Fender Deluxe to gigs instead.

Don't use it much but it turns on everytime. As I said I don't gig with it.

Haven't called them. 3 year warranty? If it breaks I'll go back to where my wife bought it and scream and fuss. But it seems like a solid product.

I've been playing guitar for many years. I own all types of guitars amps effects. Too many to mention. I like it. Not much power for giging. Needs a good 12" celestion speaker. I wouldn't replace it. It was a gift and a very nice one but I had my eye on a Fender Blues Pro Jr.(12" speaker 2 channel)and my wife bought this cause she is easily swayed by salesmen. I like the low noise and pretty clean sound. I think the reverb is A.W.O.L. and I find this disturbing. Why did they call it LC 15 "R"?

My LC15R was probably build in 1999; its the silver jubilee edition. I'm playing new stuff like P.O.D. and Nickelback as well as Gary Moore blues songs, and everything inbetween. The amp is superb for classic rock/blues sounds, but can't provide you with the nasty depth of state-of-the-art tuned down sounds like P.O.D.. My Hughes&Kettner Tube 20 does this better. It comes with one channel and hosts 4 tubes in the pre amp and two in the power amp. The effect loop is parallel (perfect, I use an A/B switch and run on B-position through an H&K Tubeman II into the Effect Return. Since it's parallel, i got that way the original Laney Preamp sound and the three channels from the Tubeman. Headphone jack is on board, I think, but I'm not sure since I never use one and right now I'm not in the apartment where the amp is operated. hey, this indicates that the cute cube is a living room recording tool for me and you know what, I'm delighted that it adds power amp dirt even at low power postitions when I play it with my Les Paul. Overall, good catch. Only a single channel, but the parallel effect loop offered the option to add the variety you want. Thinking of the price, it's a 9.

Most Guitars are use it with are Les Pauls with 490/498 HB's. I use also an ES335 copy with Seymour Alnico2 HB's and a Danelectro 12 string with SC's.

As said, a good buddy for classic rock sounds. All guitars play well with it, except the Dany. The sound is too thin.

Noise level is low for a tube amp, except when I have the Tubeman in High Gain position, but that's most likely the Tubeman or the A/B switch config..

Sounds: Classic rock crunch and drive, that's it! A little disappointing is the control with the 3 band EQ. I thought that the 3 tubes would do more, buit it seems that the 10" HH-speaker is not sensitive to extreme settings. I'll try a 12" speaker connection soon. We'll see. Bercause of the EQ, only an 8

It's amanzing!!! very, very good clean tones...the overdrive is very good! and it's very LOUD! I bought it used and five months later it stoped working...I don't know what the guy who fixed it did with my amp, I just know now it's sounds better than before! I play a Cort S2600 and sometimes I use a Danelectro mini-overdrive like a boost. My favorite set is the single neck pick-up - bright channel - low at 10 o'clock - mid 11 o'clock - high 12 o'clock. It sounds beautiful! If you like to play blues, jazz and classic rock, this is a great amp. It's doesn't have a killer distortion, you can't play Metallica without a pedal distortion before it.

It broke one time in six months, but not expensive to fix it.

I bought it used, no warranty.

Well, I love this little amp! It was very expensive, I live in Brazil but I compares it to the Marshall MG30RCD that I had before...The Laney is much better! and the Laney is laouder than the Marshall!

All tube combo, 15 watts but LOUD!, all the features you could ask for in a small budget amp (effects loop, line out, reverb etc.) Only omission I think is a headphone jack which would be useful on a prictice amp.

Playing mainly with a '78 Tele gives a range of very useable sounds. Seems to be very loud for only 15 watts, tube distortion sound is tops and clean sounds have a very warm, ringing tone. Dumps on solid state combos for a similar price.

Had it 18 months and had no problems.

Never had any reason to contact them.

Great amp, tone to burn compared to solid state, great for practising without terrorising the neigbours (master vol) but loud enough for small giggs. Just wish it had a Fender logo on the front.

This is just an update to my earlier post, I'm the guy three reviews down (the long one) with the 62 reish strat. Well now I have an original early 80s Kramer Pacer with reasonably powerful humbuckers, and it DOES have plexi-ish roar, and there is plenty of gain for Black Sabbath and maybe even Iron Maiden, but definitely not for Metallica. Just throw in an overdrive pedal and you're there

Good looking 15 watt valve amp with added reverb. I bought this amp purely for practice and it serves the purpose well being a good size to lift about. The amp has 2 channels but I only use the low input, which provides more than enough power. Only one channel can be used at a time, so your friend will need to bring his own amp. There is also an optional footswitch available for reverb but at a cost.

The amp is very powerful for it's size and should suit most people for home use or small venues.

The sound is fantastic from the valves but metal merchants should look elsewhere. This is an addictive piece of equipment and you will play more than you ever did before. The beautiful tones scream Chris Rea or blues and you can get a decent rock sound.

I have only had this amp a short time but so far so good. People really should remember this is a small amp a treat it with respect. I don't think any of the high gain addons should be used with small valve amps, which drive them too hard.

If you like dreamy leads and cutting trebles then you will love this amp.

Not needed and hopefully never will be.

I also own a Marshall AVT150 but I find myself using the Laney nearly all the time. The Laney can't produce the Marshall thrash but the Marshall can't produce the wonderful Laney tube sound.

I would buy again.

I'm playing a Fender 60's reissue strat (Japanese, '98) with
a Danelectro Daddy-O for boost and this little amp just sings. Playing at bedroom levels is very, very sweet and the 10" speaker never lets you down. I find that the higher the volume is, the more I notice the lack of bass from the speaker, but it's fine for small gigs and I never thought I'd be tired of people complementing my sound! The tone controls are nicely voiced and very useable. Reverb is good to very good.

A small tube amp like this one will rarely do anything close to 'hard rock' distortion but I do like the sound with the gain cranked up. Our band (BoneWagon, look us up) plays rock based music and blues/jazz make up much of my influences. This amp suits just fine and the other guys love the sound. A little more gain would be nice, but a good foot pedal with this amp is heaven. Why not ten out of ten? That little speaker just misses too much bass sometimes, but then again I knew what I was buying and I still love it!

I tried this amp before I bought it and A-B'd it against many small amps
of similar wattage. The Fender lues junior is the only one that came close but was too basic control wise for my needs

The amp is very loud for 15 watts, she has even managed to go against drums, 100 Watt Bass amp and a 300 W PA, and that gig was outdoors! (No, I kid you not!!) To be honest it's hard to keep the sound as clean as I want at that volume, but that's also why people buy tube amps - beautiful sound when you push the tubes.

Incidentally, I have also played a mandolin (!) with a soundboard pickup through the amp. Results - good enough, with some considerale tweaking of the tone controls. No electric guitar amp is designed with acoustic instruments in mind, so I was quite pleased.

I bought the amp new in October 2000 and have had two power tubes blow (lose one point for each tube). BUT after the last tube change she's played 36 (thirty six) gigs since the middle of March with no problems.
I am careful to turn it off when it's not in use to avoid overheating anything (i.e. between sets). The tubes are up to playing temperature after about 30 seconds so that poses no problems. I imagine that if I had a bigger tube amp with a standby switch, I'd flick that between sets too, so no big deal. I don't have a backup and I don't feel that I need one.

Never brought it back to the shop and never had to deal with Laney directly, so I can't really comment. (Having said that, an LC15 manual
on the Laney web site would be welcome.)

The bottom line for me is this - She sounds wonderful, and she's survived a lot of abuse in a fairly short period of time. If stolen I would instantly replace her. I do need a bigger amp for some of the bigger gigs I have coming up, but for small to medium size pub gigs, I'd probably still use her!

I mentioned the Fender blues junior above - in terms of sound I think it's down to personal preference which one wins. In terms of value for money the LC15 is possibly the best amp on the market.

And I almost forgot - smells like a dream!

The combination of price/features is one reason why I chose this amp. The construction is good, the look is nice. It is a rather complete amp. compared to other brands when it comes to small tube amplifiers. It has effect loop, line out: all the essential knob controls, plus you can have some 'gain': much more features than, let's say, the Fender blues junior, for less money. I rate it 9 because I would have liked two separate channels: one clean and one overdrive. As it is now there's an external footswitch controller input jack for 'reverb' (reverb on and off): I would have found it much more useful to be able to tweak 'overdrive' on or off rather than reverb.

Very good sound! I use a Stratocaster that has Red, Blue and Silver Lace Sensor pickups. That amplifier catches up all the subtleties of picking, attack. Its 'clean' channel gives me a warm, yet punchy sound. The controls (bass, treble, middle, gain) really have impact on sound (unlike other amps): that means that the sound can be 'colored' in many different ways depending on the setting of the amp. I also love the 'overdrive' sound that I can get out of it, although I would have like to be able to crank it up a little more on the side of 'distorsion': it's really a crunch/overdrive and not a 'distorsion'. Definitely this amp (and my guitar as well) is not the best suited one for heavy metal tones; but it is perfect for clean sound, blues, light rock. I did not have a good experience with this amp in gig with 1 drum, 1 bass and another guitar (couldn't hear myself anymore): but it is a perfect amp for home (loud enough, I never put it higher than 4) or I suppose for light gigs (with wind instruments, in a church or something like that).

Oh my, I was disapointed there. Took care of paying more but bought it bran new: because I did not want to have problem with it. After 5 weeks of 'service' (average of 2 hours every 2 days) I had to return it for service (of course it is still under warranty, but still I have to pack it, go back to the store which is 1 hour from my home, explain the problem to the guy which he has to try himself to find out that I was right... then pick it up: I would understand if it was an old amp that I would have bought for $150, but...). The problem was with my sound randomly fading away, then coming back 1 second after. Started with only the clean channel, once every hour. Then once every 3/4 of hours, etc.. down to every F* five minutes. It started to do that as well with overdrive on (before it was only on clean sounds). Really, that must be bad luck, or maybe it's not only me...

Hey where are those Laney employees be reached? First off, my amp did not have the manual into the box. I go to their web site and there's .pdf manuals (good idea but) only for the LC30 and LC50? I mean the LC15 line doesn't exist or what? I simply decided to email them to ask, but can you find any support email address on their page? If so, I must be blind 'cause I ain't found one. I tried support@laney.co.uk but it bounced. Comon, they should have one or two persons available for those requests from their customers. They must be manufacturing their stuff, sell it to distributors and that's it: finito -- go back to your dealer man if you need help. Add to this the fact that: It took 4 weeks to have my amp fixed back! My dealer had to send it to the other side of the continent for service, etc. No way!

I have been playing for 6 years. I used to have a 'Cube' from Roland which I was finding 'dull', 'dry'. The difference in sound with that small laney amp is incredible: it brought me to play more often, to have more fun when I play, to feel my music more, to groove with my guitar. Turns out that, though, I needed another amp for Gig because the Laney couldn't hold the run. I considered Laney (hey, maybe the LC50) but instead I went with another brand. Not because of the sound, not because I didn't like the product: but because I had bad experience with 'after-sale service'. I figured that if my new amp breaks (that might happen, I understand), I won't be supported much than I have been with my LC15R. So because of their 'support policy - read none' they just lost an over $750 sale: and who knows I might need another amp in, let's say, 5 years but will I consider again Laney if I am satisfied with the other brand that I chose instead? Not sure. But my LC15R is my perfect practice amp, I love the sound! And that might be the end of story with me and Laney though (too bad).

15W, TUBE guitar combo, silver front panel, FX loop (!!!) ....and the normal stuff like bass/mid/treble control...you know....

because of the tubes this thing sounds very natural and quite warm...you can get some decent clean sounds with it.....but don't search for heavy distorted sound....this little guy can't do it....But for blues or rock in a recording enviroment...it's cool!...AND you have the FX loop!

Unfortunately the rating does not go below 1,so......LISTEN: IN A PERIOD OF TIME OF 1 YEAR IT BROKE THREE TIMES....FIRST THE POWERAMP; THEN TUBES AND FUSE....UNBELIEVABLE!!!! Thank god, there was still warranty...

What can i say.....The thing was blown...they repaired it.....

If this damn thing wouldn't blow every 5 minutes (well, not quite...)I could really recommend it, cause there really is a lack of low output guitar combos with FX loop AND tubes !! BUT: Who cares....it is dependable as shit....or so....DO NOT BUY THIS! IT IS JUNK!!!

2001 model (I assume), 15 watt, ALL TUBE, 10" open back combo with spring reverb. 3 12AX7 preamp tubes, 2 EL84 power tubes. In the back it features speaker cab out, line out, reverb footswitch, effects loop, and..uh...that's it. On the front it has high and low gain inputs, a "bright" switch, preamp volume (gain), bass, mid, treble, power tube volume (master vol.), and reverb level. One channel only. considering the other 15 watt tube amps are more expensive, and have less controls, this thing is amazing. The one channel issue is not really a problem, turn down your guitar's volume and you get a decent clean sound. I should also state that I just about ALWAYS play with the master volume at 10, it allows total power tube saturation and the warmest tone. A headphone jack would be nice for night use...but I get by. My one complaint is that they could have put in a bigger speaker, I almost think at total saturation it's gonna fall apart, but that adds a more distorted tone, so I guess it's okay. One note: this isn't your crappy solid state Crate or Fender 15 watter. This sucker is LOUD for home use!

I love it I love it I love it! Let's disclose one fact here, though. On its own, the Laney WILL NOT give you that cool Metallica distortion, or any nasty new Limp Biznitch junk. It should be said that I play speed metal and high gain stuff, and while I wish the amp could handle it, I still love this little guy. That said, I play a 1984 62 Reissue Stratocaster, made in Japan, which is a pretty versatile guitar, though the damn pickups have a horrible screech at high gain settings. I play (or try to play, anyway) all of the following style, and probably some others that I forgot: Classic Rock, Classic Heavy Metal (Black Sabbath, etc), Hard Blues-Rock (Cream, Led Zeppelin), Speed Metal, Shred/Neoclassical (emphasis on trying), Blues, psychedelic, chording around, folky clean stuff, funk..uh....ska...and just general fiddling around. About the only thing it doesn't handle is the speed metal and shred aspects, which I mentioned. On this amp, like I said, I usually play with the master at 10, and I fiddle around with the gain setting. At about 2, there is a rather quiet, VERY clean sound, which stays very clean until about 3, where it increases in volume. At 4, if you play really hard it starts to clip a little bit, a very very mild overdrive, especially noticeable on open chords. About 5 the overdrive kicks in a little better, at about 6 you get that Eric Clapton with Cream distortion (think Sunshine of your Love). About 7 you get Pete Townshend's awesome Hiwatt crunch (I'm a big Who fan). At this point, the bridge pickup starts squealing uncontrollably, but I find I like the neck pickup better with this amp anyway. With these vintage-style single coils I can get to about 8.5, after which it just sounds bad. The distortion on this amp is perfect for the aforementioned sounds, as well as Led Zeppelin, early Black Sabbath, ZZ Top, George Thorogood...Clean is clean, and I really don't have much comparison to work with. This is only my second amp, but I listen to a lot of guitarists with distinctive tones, so I can tell you it can sound a lot like a Marshall JTM45, a Vox AC30 (especially with the Bright switch, which really jangles it up), Hiwatts, etc. There's no "Plexi Roar" like Van Halen, which is kind of a pity. The reverb is great. Excessive amounts of it will take you to surf-music land, but moderate amounts are great for fattening up distorted tones, and rounding out clean sounds. Basically, this amp takes fooling around with, but a whole host of tones are there. Also, it's LOUD! I have to stuff my ears with cotton ( I need some real earplugs) not to go deaf. However, that's just sitting next to it in a small room, I doubt it can be heard over a drummer and PA system, and in fact, I think I am going to take advantage of the speaker cab option.

I first ordered a Laney LC15, it came with a broken bass knob, I sent it back, after a month, the store still didn't have a replacement. I called to see what was up, and they asked if they wanted the LC15R version, for more cash. I said, no I want what I paid for. Well, lo and behold, I got this, but the receipt charged me for the $50 cheaper LC15! Haha! No problems yet with this one...hahahaha

Blech! The place where I bought the amp from (which will remain nameless, to protect myself), is a real pain in the neck. The nearest dealer to me is half an hour away, but the place i bought it from is in Boston (I live in Washington DC), but it was cheaper. Last time I deal with them!

Good, solid practice amp. Crank the master volume and wail, just remember to protect yourself. Did I mention that this is $100 cheaper than just about everything else in the power range?

This amp was manufactured some time during 2000. Its definitely versatile enough for the R&B we crank out, it has a lo and hi gain channel, no channel switching. Line out and speaker out. Its got two EL84's and three 12AX7's.

I use my Mexi Strat, the one with the humbucker in the bridge position, very versatile with this guitar and amp, we play "Johnny guitar Watson" Robben Ford, Robert Cray etc. Also great for classic British sounds with a Gordon Smith GS-1 60, tapped humbucker. Its not really noisy on any setting. The clean channel is clean up to about 5 and then some nice crunch coming in. The gain can make you sound like the long lost Ramones brother.

This brand new one let me down after six weeks. This was average home useage and probably fairly hard rehearsal use. Then the loaner broke down (exactly the same symptoms). I was using a BD-2 blues driver in front of both of them. An internal fuse blew, my repair guy (trusted, high turnover guy) says that he is seeing quite a few of these. Loads of blown fuses, and some output transformers. He says that people are using them for gigs and rehearsals, pushing them too hard, especially with a pedal in front of them, he reckons they push out more than the 15W specs, and what with a pedal level set a bit high even more, and its cooking them. Laney need to give them more headroom. A standby switch for the valves (tubes) would be nice. The reliability issue is a great shame, these otherwise are great light to carry little amps.

Hmmmm, dont know what Laney factory warranty service is like, as this one went back to the Dealers main local repair guy. When I finally tracked down who they were, along with a phone number I talked to a very helpful and informative guy.

I have been playing for 35 years, I have an Ampeg Superjet SJ-12R, which is a bit heavy to cart around just for rehearsals. Hmmmm, if it were stolen, I might look around for something else, a subway blues or a Peavey 30watt, or a Fender Champ, but if I heard that Laney had worked on the reliability I would try them again. I wish Carlsbro (up in Nottingham UK) would offer a small reverb valve amp as I would give them a go, their customer service is good.

The Laney LC15R (Reverb equipped model as opposed to the non-reverb equipped LC15) in my possession was manufactured in 1999 and was bought new by me in early 2000 from my local music shop for around #200. It is a small class A tube amp equipped with 12AX7s in the pre amp and Sovtek EL84s in the power amp mounted onto the chassis containing a pretty basi circuit. Having said that though, this circuit does the trick! Linked to an external reverb unit, plugging your guitar into either the hi or lo input and adjust the bass med and treble eq controls you will without any difficulty get a superb sound out of this amp with little difficulty. Although the unit is only rated at 15 watts, slam up the gain and master volumes and you will be unsure whether that 15 watts is for real. The range of tones that can be achieved from this little amp is quite extraordinary. Clean sounds - easy (bright switch adds even more top end if required). Filth - just as easy. This amp is only a single channel amp - not that that bothers me as I prefer to control the crunch of the amp from my guitar - the unit also boasts a switch for activating the reverb and also has an effects loop for all those non purists out there. One dissapointment I do find with the amp is the single 10" HH Invader speaker that Laney chose to install. The speaker itself delivers all the power perfectly but I feel that there could be an improvement in the bottom end of its tone perhaps by installing a 12" instead. Nevermind, Laney have chosen to give us a speaker output enabling the connection of an external speaker rated between 8-16 Ohms. Also, there is a seperate line out for connection to other external devices. It confuses me how Laney has obviously tried to push this as a practice amp but there is no headphone jack - I like annoying the neighbours anyway! Finally, I use a few guitars through this amp. Gigging wise, I have gigged this amp at quite sizeable venues and it has coped fairly well. For your average pub gig, as long as your drummer is not too loud you will compete. I once did a gig with this amp's preamp leading into a Marshall 50 Watt Valvestate for the extra power and boy, although it wasn't perfect, that Marshall has never sounded so good. I really suggest that you consider buying this amp, it's just a shame it hasn't got that 12" nestled in there somewhere.

I have a trusty Mexican Strat which manages to produce some lovely tones. In combination with this amp, close your eyes and you would think that the Strat is the real thing. However, stick a USA Strat with Lace pickups through it and the effect is jaw dropping. This amp does not sound like a budget 15 watt valve amp. We are talking serious kit here boys. Stick a humbucker equipped guitar through it such as a 355 and the tone is very rich - even the bass is not too thin. I think this amp is very versatile. It produces a rock sound that is spot on (afterall, the Laney is meant to be the poor man's Marshall) and I also play alot of Texas style (i.e. SRV) blues through it which again, is spot on. Even funk stands up well through this amp. I have noticed that the amp is prone to a bit of intereference (from mobiles, tube lights and guitar radio units) but keep the ampaway from any of those sources and you'll be fine. The amp in itself can be quite noisy although this can be rectified by experimenting with the hi or low inputs but having said that, push any amp hard and there will be a bit of noise. What I love about single channel tube amps is that you can control the cleanliness of the sound that you get from it. Put the gain on 6, plug in your strat and keep your volume on 5 on the guitar. The tone is very smooth and clean. Put a bit more power into it - move the volume on the guitar up to 7 and the amp begins to crunch a bit. All the way and you are into your rock solos! I also find that there is a nice characteristic to this amp. Play it hard and the sheer volume of the sound coming from the amp causes the tubes to rattle which results in a cool warbly sound. Nice! I have been at many gigs where people have scoffed at its size but after the gig, come up to me and wnat to know what the amp is because it has such a killer sound and packs such a punch. Obviously it won't beat a Fender but hey, check the price. I pitched it against the Peavey Classic range and I am afraid, in my opinion, this amp is far superior in sound range and tones - and look at the difference in price!

I have had this amp for about a year now and it has seen a fair few gigs and still looks and sounds brand new. I have yet to replace the tubes and it has never failed me yet. The only thing that I have had to do to it is tighten the screws on the head of the unit because the chassis had come slightly loose. No real problem there though! It even survived being dropped down a flight of stairs by a friend(?) of mine. It survived without a single scratch.

I have never had need to have this amp serviced or repaired. It has been a very reliable workhorse and so I can't really comment on this section. I took out an extended warranty with the shop I bought it from but touchwood, I shall not need it.

I have Mex, US Strats and did have a 355 for a bit. I had seen the Laney and heard it and was very impressed with it but i ended up with a Peavey Classic 30. I really wanted a Fender amp but the wallet could not stretch that far. I was quite dissapointed with the Peavey because I was very impressed with my friends Classic 100 but I just could not get the sound I wanted. I went out and bought the LC15 when I could afford it and pitching the Peavey against the Laney, in my opinion the Laney is a superior sounding amp although I give appearance of Peavey better marks (I was always a sucker for tweed amps). I would hate to lose my Laney - even if I was trading it for a Fender. I would do my best to keep hold of it and it has served me well. If it was stolen, I would go out and get another one... straight away in fact! I love its portablility and the monstersounds it produces as well as its simplicity. I hate all these modern amps with metal grills and flashing lights. If I was going to improve this product I would get a 12" driver and also get a cage over those tubes at the back - they look awfully vulnerable you know!

This amp was purchased new in 2000 but sat in the corner of the music store for a long while. Most people judge this amp by it's size and not by what it is capable of. HI & LO Channels for higher gain or more bass /sligtly smoother overdrive,adjustable pre-amp gain, bass,treble, mid control & footswitchable accutronics reverb. On back panel has effects loop, line-out, extension cab socket. Very well equipped in features for an amp this size.Amp has a 10" HH Invader speaker which is the Laney vintage british style speaker. Cabinet is very adequate for this amp and can withstand regular heavy sue movement etc. The tubes need to be watched closely if amp is being moved regularly as they can move sligt in the sockets. Amp has 15 loud class "A" all tube watts into 3 Chinese 12AX7 preamp tubes and 2- EL-84 Sovtek power amp tubes. More on tubes and speakers later! This amp needs a standby switch - why are any tube amps made without this feature except to save a few dollars that anyone would gladly pay. Amp circuits and tubes mount directly to PCB board which may be a problem down the road but should be fine if a person isn't yanking tubes out constantly or pushing new tubes in with too much pressure. Practically every new tube amp is done like this now unless you shell out really big cash. I do not use this amp out of the house and use the Tech 21 alot through the extension cab. I baby this amp and use it only as a tone monster to impress myself and friends at home. I wouldn't use this amp out without a backup. That's not really putting this amp down completely because I wouldn't trust any tube combo without some backup amp. When I do use this amp it never fails to please -delivering great Class "A" tone in abundance

When I first heard this amp I was aware of favorable sound reviews on Harmony central. I also own a Tech 21 Trademark 10, Vox pathfinder, and use all with a mexican Strat almost exclusively. I also have a danelectro DC-59 which replicates some nice retro sound through this amp. This amp had nice chime and harmonic ring which was very pleasing right out of the box. Also had a nice three spring reverb which compliments the sound in a non-intrusive manner. The volume levels obtained can be very surprising with pre-amp gain turned past 1/3 and dialing up master volume. I knew the amp had lots of promise but suffered from brittle and toneless preamp overdrive which added harsh distortion but poor tone quality. I changed the unbelievably bad Chinese preamp tubes for a set of new old stock JAN Philips which immediately added a lot of warmth and a nice progressive overdrive as gain stages kicked in on the preamp. This made a huge difference in fattening the tone of this amp, I have 2 - Tesla JJ power amp tubes which I will add later when the Sovtek's die. the sovteks were'nt really the main problem with the amp tone and sound quite decent - I'm sure the Tesla's will sound better though! This amp was now cranking out some serious tone but lacked somewhat in the lower bass reproduction so I substituted a 10" Celestion Vintage speaker. The tone became moderateley more defined and punchy throughout the tone range with a small gain in bass. The small cabinet is a definite advantage in making this the smallest true all-tube 15 watt combo on the planet. However -it seriously limits what this amp can do in reproducing bass. I now use this amp through a homemade cabinet consisting of two Celestion vintage 10's and two Celestion Greenback 12' re-issue speakers and this makes all the difference. Even the stock speaker sounded 100% better when popped into a bigger extension cab. I initially thought the stock speaker was crap but it really isn't bad at all and sounds awesome when teamed with any celestion speaker. This amp now packs all the punch and tone of the cleanest Vox or the dirtiest Marshall at a fraction of the price! As I suspected this amp can be made to sound great with some reasonably cheap modification. It is really hard to believe what this amp can do through 2-4 efficient speakers in a proper extension cab - all the tone is there from the cleanest Vox chime to the meanest snarl of a Marshall. I would give this amp an 8 without speaker, cabinet change and different tubes and a resounding 10 for tone with the above changes. For purposes of rating this category it gets a 9 with everthing taken into consideration.

I live in fear with this amp because of the horror stories I have read about this amps reliablity. I have had problems with the LO channel cutting in and out - probably the input jack - had it serviced once and thought it was cured but it's doing the same thing again. Otherwise it has been reliable through several months use.

I have not dealt with Laney directly but assume that it would almost be a waste of time for me as trying to get U.K service or parts in Canada would be a major P.I.A. Get to know a competent amp tech if you are doing more than simple modifications or repairs!

I would miss this amp if it were stolen or lost! It really is a great introduction into the world of great tube amp tone. With a little reading and a few inexpensive modifications this amp can produce tone that will compete with the best tube amps out there. It has a really nice gain structure that allows this amp to be very versatile, It is not a one trick pony like many other tube combos. I would buy another Laney amp if this amp wasn't around unless I won a lottery or had a very friendly music store owner that would let me make extended payments on a Marshall DSL-201 or bigger or some boutique amp. Even those amps would eventually get a couple changes anyway. If your looking for the most bang for the buck in a small tube amp -this is best deal out there as far as I'm concerned. As far as reliability goes - get a backup amp (Tech 21 Trademark 10 is a great choice!). Tube combos have always had more reliablity problems and always will. There is the occasional dud in every batch from every manufacturer and Laney probably has a few more than their share. If that sounds too scary -don't buy this (or possibly any tube amp). I had to have the tone this monster is capable of creating!

Has that unique sort after sparling tone.Massive output for an amp puting out only 15 x watts.Annoying hum spoils things though.

Terrible !!.Ive only had it 3 x weeks (from new!!) and used it perhaps 4 x times.Its now had 3hrs use and has broken twice.First time it was the fuse.Took it to band practice last night and it has totally given up the ghost.If a manufacturer is going to market a product the very least they can do is sort out the reliability factor.Despite its great sound an unreliable amp is no use at all and having read all the other feedbacks on this site when the amp is returned to the dealer today I will be getting my money back.Dont get me wrong,I appreciate that things go wrong but I have been playing for 30 x years now and have played/owned all the major stuff by all the big names and I have had two unreliable turkey amps,both bought new and guess what,both laney,the only laney amps Ive ever owned.
Ive heard that the back up service is poor so here is someone who will not be buying any of there products ever again.

2000. very versatile,i play most styles (no metal) loud for such a small package.Good reverb very nice tone. I paid 380.00 (w/tax)nice price.I wanted a amp I can pick up & go out with to clubs w/o hauling a big rig.I prefer the sound of EL34'or 84's sounds British.

I play tele's (both single & humbucker's). liked the way amp responded to pick attack. Stays clean for most volumes except wide out,breaks up nice. Good warm sounds.

I have been playing over ten years. I own a Matchless clubman35 (my all time fav.),Marshall JCM 600 & Mesa/boogie Mark 3 (good tone too many knobs)I haven't had this LANEY long, but I think this one is a keeper.

1999 combo. Silver vinyl covered 1x10 combo with reverb.
2x12AX7, 1x12AT7, 2xEL84. Simple operation: gain, bass, middle, treble, master volume, reverb. No channel Switching nonsense here, single channel only. EFX loop! External speaker jack mutes combo speaker.
Class A operation, 15 watts.
Gets an 8, coz for #200, and valves, this is pretty damn good.

Brilliant. Goes from clean, to mild grumblings, through decent bluesy lead to full on overdrive. Doesn't do metal, though this is (this is not my opinion, but the objective truth!!!) not a bad thing.
Sounds british, somehow, especially when cranked. Internal speaker is pants, but sounds great through anything with a decent coil, even a bandit cab. Sounds best through what looks a bit like a G12H-120 loaded in a Peavey Triumph combo.
Reverb is conservative, but again I like that. I don't do surf guitar, which means I only use reverb for some very limited applications. Overall, excellent. Power tube drive at high volumes is brilliant. Definitely small valve amps are the way forward.

Don't know. Bedroom and practice use for six months without any problems. Could do with new tubes.
Possibly a source of concern is the fact that the valves are plugged straight into the PCB, which could damage the circuitry with the heat of class A operation over time.

Never tried. Got a student discount in the shop, but they couldn't find the manual. Pretty lame there. Laney, I've no idea about, but their website is reasonable.

Alongside a Fender Prosonic, restores some British tone to my playing. Keeps up with a drumkit in a practice room (impressive) but at that level is never clean. Generally excellent, especially because it's the limited edition silver one.
For the money, easily better than anything else. A VS30, listed around #200, is toss by comparison.

My amp was made in 1999. I got it in October 1999 when I got to university. At home I had a larger Rivera amp (which I picked up for a real steal), but an amp that size would be very very neighbour unfriendly, especially seeing that I'm in a tiny room in halls of residence. This amp is perfect for the job, 15 watts, single channel but still loud enough to play with a small band (guitar, bass, drums & vocalist) in a small club or bar. If not, then I can mike it up. It's got 2x12AX7s and 2xEL84s and a 10-in Laney speaker for a really shimmery sound.

There is a single channel to the amp, but there are two inputs, one straight and one that has the guitar signal attenuated by 6dB before entering the preamp. Gain, master volume, treble, middle, base and reverb controls along with a reverb switch. It also has an effects loop, a line out, an external speaker jack and an optional reverb footswitch.

Overall I was really impressed with the number of features in this really small amp. Most of the 15-watt tube combos you find have only a volume control and, if you're lucky, an EQ. The master volume is a blessing if you're stuck in a tiny flat with fussy neighbours, and the FX loop is also quite unusual in an amp this size, though I do run the amp totally clean. Overall, though, I can't rate it 10 for features because it just doesn't compare to a larger amp with multiple channels.

I'm playing with a Blade superstrat of some description, with two super clean single-coils and a Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates humbucker in the bridge. The guitar has a switchable mid boost which is very useful in driving the amp over the top. The sounds are really really good. The cleans are very very shimmery with an AC-30ish sound and there are lots of darker jazzy sounds on offer if I roll off the tone on the guitar.

The distorted sounds are NOT super-saturated, but very glassy and smooth, perfect for medium/hard rock and blues-rock, which I tend to play. The amp is also really responsive to changes in guitar volume and pick attack. I can go from a clean clean sound on the neck-single to a rocking tone with a real snarling bite on the bridge humbucker with no problem.

The louder you push it, the smoother it gets. Lots of volume for such a small amp! Make no mistake, though, this is a small amp and is not designed for metal. There just isn't the bass on tap because of the 10-inch speaker and the lack of power. If you TOTALLY scoop out the mids on the EQ, I think it just sounds obnoxious and buzzy, although I guess that's probably what you're aiming for if you're a serious metal player.

I can't comment. I've gigged with it twice in a small bar with a small band and have had no problems so far, but I've only had it for about 4 months.

I'd definitely buy it again. It's perfect: tone on a budget for the bedroom player. If you need a more powerful amp, check out its bigger brother, the LC30R, which has 2 channels, but all the tone. I love the smooth distorted tone as well as the way I can go from clean to snarling by just flicking the pickup-selector. I compared it too the Peavey Classic 30 (very very nice, but more expensive and a bit loud to get smooth distortion) and the Fender Blues Junior, Pro Junior (too expensive for the features and no effects loop) and the Mesa Subway Rocket (great tone but also very pricey on a student budget). I've had no regrets so far. It's not absolutely packed with features, but it's got a smooth tone at a low price.

This amp is very versatile for me, I can get blues sounds, rock sounds, anything! for a grunge player thats pretty good. The controls are gain, bass, middle, treble, volume, reverb and a bright on/off switch. It has room for fx send/return which works very well!!!

This amp can get very loud for a 15 watt all valve. It suits all kinds of music all though i'm not sure about jazz i'll have to try it! If you turn up the gain you can get gorgous feedback the clean sounds are not distorted at high volumes which is good.

I can depend on the amp highly and I would do a gig without backup any day! It has never broken down.

I'v been playing now for 3yrs and this my 2nd amp, and I love it! It has a wonderful range of sounds!!!

15 watt tube amp, 1 channel, reverb. Not extremely versatile (does not have high levels of distortion). Mine can get extremely loud.

I play an American Standard with 2 Texas Specials, and a Fender Silver Lace in the bridge. I play rock/ballad rock/alternative (who really knows?). I use it with various distortion pedals for lead guitar work and heavier rhythm work (muted palm/power chording). I absolutely love the sound. So does everybody thats ever heard mine. Its sounds similar to a Marshall tube amp. But the dim-wits at Marshall forgot to make a 15 watt tube amp (otherwise I'd have one). Sound quality is where this amp shines!!!! It is tonal bliss!

Never had a problem yet (knock on wood). Had it about a year and a half.

I fell in love with the Marshall tube combo amps many years ago. I love the sound. Unfortunately, the Valve State series just doesn't sound anything like the real tube amps. (Its amazing that a VS can sound tinny and muddy at the same time.) For people who want a nice sounding tube amp without spending a fortune and without blowing their ear drums out, this amp cannot be beat. This should be a $400 amp!!!! I would certainly prefer this over a Fender Hot Rod. (I know, I had one and got rid of it). The Laney is a keeper for life!!! (even after I finally get my Marshall tube combo)

The LC15R is a single channel, all-valve guitar combo with a Class A power amplifier pushing out 15W through a 10 inch HH Invader speaker. It uses 3 ECC83/12AX7 preamp valves and 2 EL84 power amp valves. The controls are: Gain, Bass, Middle, Treble, Volume, Reverb and a Bright switch. Around the back there are sockets for effects loop Send/Return, Line Out and Reverb On/Off.
Channel switching would have been nice (although the price would be much higher), and because the output is 15 very loud Watts, a headphone jack would have been appreciated for bedroom practice.

I play jazz, blues and rock (melodic, progressive, hard, whatever), with a Washburn Mercury guitar (not ideal for all of these styles, admittedly, but I am a poor student and left-handed). After years of a Zoom 2020 multieffects unit I wanted something more responsive and 'musical' for my quieter moments.
Within its specification, this amplifier pretty much satisfies all my requirements. At the price, this unit should maybe be compared to solid state devices more than much more pricey valve counterparts.
The sound, from clean to heavy crunch (the gain is not huge), is quite wonderful. As someone said in an LC15 review, the depth of tone is incredible, and the responsiveness and harmonic content cannot be touched by most solid state amps. I actually play the guitar quietly, and even with the output valves hardly stretched the sounds are lovely.
The three tone controls work over a good range, as does the gain, so there are many good noises to be had. The Bright switch (most effective with clean sounds) pushes out any boxiness associated with the small speaker - a major gripe in the other review of the LC15R. The reverb goes from barely noticeable to extremely spacious, and is quite 'warm'. At the volumes I use, there is little noise and hum to speak of.
To provide 'channel switching' or to push the overdrive a little more, I recently purchased a Danelectro Daddy O which seems to work quite well with the Laney. I don't have any effects at the moment and so I haven't used the effects loop yet. Sorry!
Soundwise, this is a massive step up from all my previous gear and other bedroom/practice amps I've tried, so it was an excellent choice.

The problem area, I'm afraid. After I bought the unit the output valves turned out to be in bad shape and they kept blowing internal fuses. After receiving new valves from Laney, I went to change the fuses but it was a very fiddly process and I repeatedly received unpleasant electrical shocks. I sent the unit back to them and it was repaired after two weeks and a lot of 'phone calls.

Distinctly underimpressed. They have a technical support chap who's a fount of all knowledge and really friendly, so he would merit a 10. However, he was away when my amp went back and everything fell apart. The repair department took their time, and the reception weren't very reliable. Virtually every time I was told that I would be 'phoned back I had to chase them up again. Communication both within Laney and between Laney and myself was atrocious. They would merit a 0. I'll take an average and give a 5. Just be prepared to badger them!

The LC15R is a superb amplifier and sounds more expensive than it is. The LC15R and its older brother, the LC15 have had mostly excellent reviews.
My only qualms are with reliability and customer service. If these problems are addressed then the amp will be a world beater, and I would definitely buy it again.
When the amp was taking a while being repaired and I was being messed around by the customer service, I started looking in magazines for alternatives. I couldn't find any.
When the amp was returned, I played a simple chord and knew exactly why I chose this. The sound is rather special for this size/price. In fact, I tried a Marshall JTM30 first, and was left totally cold. Unexciting overdrive, almost non-existent reverb, and far too big and heavy for a nomadic student (and twice the price!).
Provided it's dependable,the LC15R will be a friend for life. Aaah!

I'm constantly lookinf for small amps (less than 20 watts) that sound great when cranked. I was VERY disappointed with the sound of this thing. Not horrible, but not even very good.
Acceptable midrange grind (I guess), but sounds like it's in a shoebox.

I took a look at this because of the incredible price (dealer going out of business) and because it fit the general specs I look for in an amp (low watts, decent size speaker, reverb). This thing sounds like a practice amp. Unless that's what you are going to use it for, pass on it.
