My combo was made in England, i bought it in the end of 2001 in Hungary (as a new one). it has a lot of usable features. I used it for many years with it's built in drive channels to play classical hardrock music. Unfortunately foot switches are not included, and it was expensive. Later I bought a GX-700 effekt processor and I also used Laney TF200 with a Rocktron Voodu Valve Preamp.

Great things are:
- 3 channels
- built in spring reverb
- Independent 3-way tone and reverb control for the clean and the driven channels
- Effect loop
- Footswitchable channels and reverb (You have to push in the channel buttons if you want to use a footswitch for the channel select)
- Separated Reverb and 3-way tone controls for the clean and driven channels.
- Headphone out
- Effect loop (Send & return) - Good thing for use stomp boxes with the built in drive, but I never used.
- Line out (useful for a poor man behind the mixing consol, but better with a mic)
- Vibe function (Important!)
- Bright function for the clean channel's treeble boosting
- You can pull out the built in speaker's jack and connect an external cabinet (but not both in the same time)

Sound Quality : 7
Using only the clean channel with external preamp, like stomp boxes or rack preamp, the volume is quite enough. There is a lot of noise comes from the cable connected when you uses the built in driven channels with a lot of distorsion.
Clean channel is very clean, warm tube sound without any distorsion on high levels. You can make the sound sharper with the bright switch. It has bass, middle, treeble controls and reverb.
Orange (the LED's colour) channel adjustable from crounchy to hardrock sound with its own drive and volume control. RED (solo) channel has also a drive and an ENCHANCE potmeter. With this, you can shift the tone of the sound, kill the mid-range so you can make brutal metal sound with extreme potmeter positions. The 'MASTER' potmeter is not a master potmeter, it is only the red channel's volume-level knob. The last 3 tone controls and the reverb knob is for control the 2 driven channels.

Reliability : 7
I never use a backup amp with TF200, last years i used this for a backup amp. In the firs year, the coil of the speaker was broken, but it happened in the warranty period, and the music shop's worker said it was the first problem with these amps in Hungary. After it, i had no amp problems it was reliable.
Only the footswitch was unreliable, after 2 years it was broken. I thought the problem was the cable, wich fixed by the manufacturer to the switch-box and made from poor quality materials, so i dismounted it and decided to use with a microphone cable, but the switches was also broken to this time. I was very angry when the channels changed while i was playing on live gigs, or not changed when I tapped the switches. Later I used it with external preamps, so i did not need the footswitches.

Customer Support : 5
Poor user's information about the amp. No User's manual no detailed technical data about the parts and the parameters, only a paper with all knobs and sockets for the whole TF-serie.
No information about how to use with footswitches (You must push the channel buttons first) or with other equipments.
Warranty was 1 year in 2001, once i had to use it, because of the speaker problem.

Overall Rating : 7
The TF-serie preamp section is very good, real tube preamp with ECC83 valve, you can uses different kind of various tones for your music with the built in things. Vibe switch is a good idea, you don't need to use extreme volume levels to get great sounds. Power amp section is poor, and there is no master potmeter for the power amp section (RETURN socket). If you want to control the overall volume for eg. with external preamps, you must connect it to the clean channel.
The loudness is enough for practicing with the band, and in small clubs also. You can reach more volume level if you use external preamps. With the built in distorsion the sound power is not reach the 65W I think.

Disadvantages:
- No MASTER potmeter for power amp section
- Footswitch/Footswitches NOT included and the Laney one's are expensive
- There is no LED clontrols on Laney footswitches, you have to turn back to look the amp's LED for ensure the channel change is OK, because the footswitch is not really a reliable one. But nowadays you can buy cheaper switches from other manufacturers.
- There is a resonance (sounds metallic, like a ring) of the electronic parts inside the amp's box in some frequencies on high volume levels.
- Usage with high reverb levels in both channels (clean and the drivens) there is a crazy bug. The distorsed noise comes back in low level format to the clean channel from the selected driven channel throught the reverb circuit. But it is only audible in room conditions.
- Despite of the authentic performance, the control knobs is made from plastic, you can see the white plastic under the chrome-cover after some years of wear.
- There is a lot of noise coming from the connected guitar cable in high level of drive and volume.

Nowadays I uses Marshall DSL half stack with stomp boxes, so i have sold out this combo in good conditions with a minimal wear after 7 years of usage. Laney' TF200 was a good choice in 2001. This was my first amp as a beginner guitarist. Easily carriable, enough power for me, and good features in tone and other functions also. Next time if i need a combo for the live club performances, I would like to try the Fender's Frontman 212R solid state combo. It has also vintage appearance and tone, and more power, included footswitches, and very low price.

I found this little Gem in a local Pawn store. I paid $250.00 for it. At first I just wanted a small practice amp so I wouldn't have to lug my Blues Deville around. When I first took it to practice it sounded awesome. It took a bit to dial in but when I found it, it was smooth on the clean and nasty on the dirty. I've since replaced the ECC83 pre-amp tube in it and it's only gotten better. I'm now using this as a small club amp. It has plenty of power for small venues.

Sound Quality : 9
Clean, with heavy on the Bass for my Tele and Strat. This stands right up next to a Tube Fender amp. The dial in features like reverb, delay and chorus are a nice feature. I use my own pedal board so I doubt I'll ever use the amp settings for gigs. I'm using a Fender Strat and a $150.00 Samick copy of a 52 Butterscotch Tele. This is a nice set up for Bar gigs. Trust me Guys and Gals, a thousand dollar amp and a two thousand dollar guitar don't make you play any better. What I have with my Laney and Samick fit the bill just right for small gigs and bars.

Reliability : 10
Never had a problem with it. If I do, it's Solid State so it wont cost me a bunch to fix it.

Customer Support : 10
I've seen some harsh comments about the service. But here's my deal. I know we all have good days and bad days, but I've been dealing with Roger Hickman from Laney/UK. He has always answered my emails in in either a day or to. Roger has gone out of his way to help me out. Personally I've never had a problem the customer service.

Thanks Roger.

I've been playing for close to 40yrs. All styles. I've been through so many amps I can't count. This is my first Laney and I plan on seeking out more of them. Maybe some guys trade them off to get a better amp but I'm sold on Laney. Would I buy another one if it were lost or stolen??........ Oh hell yeah! I have two circa 1980 Randall RG-80's and I used them for the smaller jobs. to me the TF-200 is my new bar amp! I personally think you Guys and Gals ought to give Laney a listen. I think you'll be pleasently surprised.

The clown below isn't even talking about the TF200! What a spanner!

It's the 2-and-a-bit channel design ... kinda three channels but only two EQ sections.

Dunno what the 'Vibe' button does but the amp always sounds better with it switch in. The scoops do really well for changing between a quite British/80s tone and a modern/nu-metal one. You can get some superb modern metal sounds although the clean channel is still my favourite.

Seperate controls for the reverb on the clean and distorted channels - nice! Good quality footswitch included with helpful LEDs. What more could you want on a combo at this price?

Sound Quality : 9
Using it with a Fender Strat, a Burns Marquee and various oddities including a Westone Prestige 150. This amp works great for a number of styles, has plenty of volume to make it giggable ... although I don't play ANYWHERE that doesn't mic amps nowadays anyway.

The sounds are all extremely good for this price point ... the key is having that 'Vibe' switch on!!

Reliability : No Opinion
No problems yet although with Laney being a British company I would expect the support to be a little more accessible to me than most.

Customer Support : No Opinion
My retailer is very good so I have no worries ...

Overall Rating : 9
I don't think there's anything better at this price point and it's a very cool amp. This one doesn't belong to me but to a friend but I chose it with him and am constantly impressed with the sounds it makes. Good for numerous styles which always helps.

I need to tell you about my own experience with my new Laney TFX200.

I bought my amp at Sydney Musicworks on Vancouver Island. I liked the basic product and the DSP choices looked good to me. The amp certainly had a big-dog bark , buckets of bass and a nice sound image.

But unfortunately this amp soon revealed that it had a sympathetic vibration issue. An Em chord would start it rattling away and make a noise that gave me a pain right where I wished I had a pleasure. I took the amp back to Sydney Music works and left it with them. Their guitar scientist checked it out and they gave it back to me having done nothing at all. Couldn't find the sympathetic buzz...

So back to Sydney Musicworks... I was supposed to meet their guitar scientist there but he wasn't scientific enough to show up when he was supposed to. So that was gas burned for nothing.

I called again to set up a time when said guitar scientist would actually be there. I asked that he phone me when he arrived so that I didn't burn any more gas for nothing. I was assured that I could show up at noon and the guy would be there. When I arrived at Sydney Musicworks the owner told me that he'd just left me a message at my home phone telling me that there was some doubt that their Einstein would be there.

But since I was there with my amp I thought that this might be a good time for the owner ,Lloyd to explain to me the strange logic that Laney installed in the DSP part of the amp. The owners manual was something that I'd had to insist that Lloyd get me from Laney after purchase and when it came finally it was written by an egghead for other eggheads.

There is some kind of memory function in the DSP selector knob that works on a different logic than other amps I've had. The manual tells you that a new selection on the dial doesn't affect the choice you were playing with before. This kind of dual function is usually a function of a footswitch or a memory bank of selector buttons.

Not on the TFX200. There is a logic at work here that I've never seen and the manual was useless. So I asked Lloyd to explain it to me. I tried to show him the passages in the manual but he wouldn't even look at it. His explanation was that if you turn the knob back to where you were at last , you'd have that last setting.

I understand how to turn a knob to any setting that I want but there was still a question of what was meant in the manual when it spoke over and over again about how a new setting does not affect the last setting. And to add to the complication , there is info in the manual that actually says that when you are using this feature your amp may actually be on a setting other than what the knobs display.

Lloyd told me that the manual was bulls*it. I tried several times to get him to read the appropriate passages and he actually took the manual out of my hand and slapped it upside down on the counter. I told him repeatedly that there was a different logic than I've ever seen on a amp and that I wanted to understand it so that I could use ALL of the features that this thing offered.

He got angry at me. He explained that he's been playing for thirty-five years and he knows everything that there is to know about guitar amps. He told me that he HAD explained to me how this thing worked and he obviously had no idea. I had a non-guitar playing pal with me who understood perfectly well what I was trying to say and it was obvious to him that this guy was using bluster and patronising language to cover his own lack of understanding. So the problem in communication was clear even to someone who did not understand the use issues that I was asking about.

Thirty-five years , huh Lloyd? I shoulda known he was a boob when I saw the nipple on his forehead!

I don't want to boast but I have now been at it with guitars for forty one years. Yes , it IS sad to be that much of a fossil but when you're as deaf as me you won't care what people say. I just wish that those paleontologists would stop following me around trying to get samples of my stool ; that's nasty...

So that's my comment on the features and the dealer service too. I could carve a better dealer out of a banana. I picked up my guitar case and my defective amp and walked out the door. If you ever see me in Sydney Musicworks again , be sure to take my picture and send it to the Pope. He's in the miracle business and that's what it would take to get me in there for any reason. And that wouldn't be the nicest kind of miracle either...

The knobs are chrome and that may well appeal to the crow in you but in the real world you have to squint right down on the knobs to see what's what. I'd call this setup a classic case of style at the expense of user-friendliness.

I'm so disgusted that I don't even care what Laney has to say about this. I'm simply trading it for the Behringer I should have bought in the first place. A Behringer at a third the price is twice the amp.

Sound Quality : 3
This amp is much more prone to cause things to rattle around the room when it is cranked than my Fender amps. All that bass is certainly nice to have but my short experience (three months)made me think that this amp was about the same quality as Traynor trash. Too little articulation in lead notes and crushing bass in chording.

Damping chords on this amp tended to make it blurt out bass harmonics unexpectedly and unflatteringly to whatever I was playing. I've never heard that before and it was on my s*itlist to discuss with Banana-boy. Waddup wi dat I couldn't even start to say...

Reliability : 1
Who cares how reliable an amp is when you can't wait to get rid of it? I was watching Gene Simmons' Rock School the other day and I saw that he was using Laney Amps. I'm sure that that is going to raise interest and bring people here to see what's what with Laney. They don't train their dealers in product info or support. If you get the urge to go out and buy one of these amps I'd recommend that you just lay down till the urge passes.

Customer Support : 1
Arrogance , patronising stupidity and vacuaous product knowledge. I wish that I knew where this guy lives so that I could go and kick his dog.

It's got all that you need, just check the reviews below.
The feature that really impresses me is the vibe button
which awakes the Metal Monster inside this amp.
Also the Enhance-knob is useful if you like heavier tones.
Could have separate level- and eq- settings for the distortion channels.

Sound Quality : 10
Clean channel is almost heavenly and the overdrive channel is
great for 80's rock. The gain channel can be very brutal if
you push the vibe-button and tweak the eq-settings and enhance-knob correctly.
This thing is made for band-playing, but if I was going to play a gig, I would
probably mic this amp and play it through a PA-system.

Reliability : 10
I bought it used, and I've had it for a year now, and it has never broken down.

I don't know about it.

A good and reliable overall amp, also for the real headbangers.
If stolen, I would definitely buy it again.

Io suono prevalentemente Rock Blues, tipo Led Zeppelin, Jimmi Hendrix, Clapton, SRV.
reamer davanti.
Per questa pecca gli do 8 anziche 9...

Sound Quality : 8

Customer Support : No Opinion

This is an update to my previous review. Same features as before...

Sound Quality : 9
Again. Never switch that "Vibe" button off. Never ever.

Clean: clean sounds are very usable. With the "bright" button off it sounds very lush and could easily be used for jazz. Works very well with effects.

OD1: For some reason OD1 seems to prefer single coils. Single coils with a moderate gain obtain that "slightly breaking up" sound to something a bit more edgy. I don't like the sound I get on OD1 using bridge humbuckers. Even with the gain on full blast. Sounds... not right. Not tinny, but... I just doesn't "pound". Neck humbuckers with a moderate gain sound okay though for anything from fusion to BB King.

OD2: Moderate gain and single coils: fuzzy Jimi Hendrix Heaven! AB-SO-LU-TE-LY beautiful! I've played tube amps that didn't sing like this hybrid does. As you wind up the gain it sounds great with humbuckers. Very punchy in the bridge position and soaring leads with incredible sustain in the neck position.

So my opinion: it's a great sounding, very versatile amp that sounds good with most any guitar. Just keep yer humbuckers out of OD1 and you'll be fine.

Reliability : No Opinion
Very reliable. Has yet to break down on me. It's solidstate for the most part so should be fine.

I had a Laney Linebacker about 10 years ago, Laney have come along way since then. The controls feel classy and less RadioShack/Maplins spare parts bin raided.

In short Laney have grown up, and it's made in the UK unlike the cheaper Marshalls that are made in China. (The expensive Marshall valve amps are still made in the UK).

The valve state Marshalls properly just beat this, but then at half the price this is a sure winner.

firts of all. i dont have any idea when 'my amp was made. but it is very versatile though. you can play thrash sound with this using the enhance knob and with the vibe switch on.U i dont use the enhance and the vibe switch cause tends to be more natural without them so..... anyway, the amp has 3 channels. 1 clean, i overdrive (very good and crunchy, attacky and bite) and the best one is the gain channel capable of doing solos. it has great sustain too. its a tube amp. its got ECC83 tube although i dont know how many.

Sound Quality : 10
i have a les paul. i will upgrade this guitar. althuogh a will not tell you what model coz you might laugh. so anyway, it has stock humbuckers. i play rock. i dont play thrash or some of those shit.ok lets get to the piont. with my amp and my guitar i can play GUNS N ROSES with my setup. i dont have any pedals effect pedals at the moment. it sounds great. i play sweet child o mine, welcome to the jungle, nightrain and the one and only PARADISE CITY. oh did i mention Guns N Roses are the best!????
the amp is not noisey at all especially in the od1. its quiet. but in od2 set up past 8 then a little noise comes out thats why i keep it at 8. clean channel is great only if you know how to set it up.(dont mind the clowns that are jerking around saying the clean channel is bad.

try this:
bass:9
mid:3
treble:5?
and then push the vibe switch.
this will give you a tube like sound clean.

on distortion:

bass:7 bass:9
mid:4? or mid:7
treble:7 treble:4?
gain around: 8 to 8? or maybe 10
its lound on volume:1? (trust me)

can play thrash, metal, rock, jimmi hendrix set gain or OD at 6? - 7
dont mind the people putting arate at 1 coz maybe they just dont know how ta play!
the distortion & OD are 10
clean is lets say 8. coz i dont play clean most of the time. i play lead and rhythm.

Reliability : 9
nnnjjaaaaa!"!! i dont know if i can depend on it coz i think the tubes are starting to wear out. just bought it about a year now. or maybe just my ears coz i dont play with the amp too mush. i mainly play with my guitar. the day i bought it it broke so i had to get down to the store and they replace it brand new that just arrived from the shop. (nice people ay mate)!!!?? but now that new amp i was talking about is with me still roaring. I WISH I CAN change the tubes all by my self. does anyone hear in the forum knows a website that give instructions on how to change tubes?

Customer Support : 3
dont have any contact with the laney folk, i just go down the shop where i bought it so what big deal!
the warranty or huold i say garranty is just one fucking year. the could not even give at least two years!!!

Overall Rating : 10
as i already mestioned. i dont have any gear, maam! yeah stolen, i almost broke my back carrying it around straitght back home them back to the shop then back to home.
anyway if you are a begginer this is the type of amp to star. yes i know you guys are on a budget, so get a job like i did. its better to spend big cash on amps than a guitar, am i right. you sound would not be as good as if you bought a 3000 dollar guitar and bought 100dollar practice amp than you bought 3000 dollar amp and bought a 100 dollar shiitty guitar.
i love just every thing about it. i dont like the enhance knob coz i dont like thrash so.... what i love the most is the od chanelles long sustain with my neck pickup. i can almost get the sweet child o mine O round sound with this plus the setup i mentioned above.. trust me. just contact me then ill give you a clip.

Well, to start off: I play some kind of experimental rock music and This amp gives me the tone and distortion I need. It's a great amp with enough features to make me happy.

Sound Quality : 7
The guitar I'm using is an Epiphone Les Paul 100 with 2 humbuckers.
And again, this amp suits me fine, but I might replace it with maybe a sunn amp when I need more power. This amp is very quiet, even with the distortion at 10 and the volume around 7. One problem is that when I'm playing clean parts the sound gets distorted, even at low volumes, It's really annoying and I would like to know what the problem is cuz I can't use the Clean channel with my Epiphone. When I use guitars equipped with Single coils, It ok, but it seems like the amp (or just my) can't handle Humbuckers. That's why I'm giving it a 7. But the distortion channels are both 10's though.
And the distortion channels leak into the clean channel, but I still love this amp.

Reliability : 10
I can totally rely on this amp and I would never use a backup, but I wouldn't use it on a gig, because I Think it's too small for that.
This amp is great for small gigs, but for the arenas: use something bigger.
My amp has never broken down, but there is this annoying distortion on the clean channel, but that's all.

if it was stolen, I would buy a bigger amp, but I'd probably miss it.

This amp has 3 footswitchable channels which is cool, 1 clean, 2 rhythm tones and 3 lead tones. 2 and 3 are both distorted channels and are great for switching during playing even if its just for a volume boost. Quite a few features, clean channel has a bright switch to lighten the treble in the tone, 3rd channel has a enhance button sucks out all the mids for metal and thrash, and a vibe switch for 2 and 3 which gives a very fuzzy high distorted sound - almost like an onboard effect. NICE!

Sound Quality : 8
I'm usin a BC Rich Warlock and lemme tell ya, the distortion channels are fantastic - sustain is forever, it aint noisy I can get a real good crunch on chan 2 and on 3 I can get a very smooth dark tone that's great for Slayer, Korn and all your moshpit gubbins. Clean channel sounds very lush even though it aint tubed (the distortion channels are tubed). One problem, distortion did sound a bit tinny playing live, but maybe thats cos someone put my treble on full - bastards.

Reliability : 7
I would use this, and have used this in a gig without a backup. The only problem I have had with this amp is an annoying buzzing when you play a bass note or while palm muted, I think this is a design thing, speakers can be built with the chassis too close to the coil which causes vibration. Man, it's annoying, but hey, when the volumes cranked you forget bout it

Looked on website, yeah.

I've been playing for a year and a bit, I had a Marshall G15RCD before, and I use a BC Rich Warlock, I at first, got a Marshall VS230, but I took that back cos it made weird noises, then I saw this baby and thought Marshall had been outdone - ha! Take my word for it, this amp rocks. Just a shame bout the buzz, just replace the speaker.

3 channels, clean,OD1, and OD2. the clean channel has a bright switch, OD2 has an enhance feature. There is also a Vibe switch which gives you that big stadium sound. All channels are foot switchable and the amp has it's own reverb and effects loop. no footswitch

Sound Quality : 8
I use an Ibanez JS 100 with an Alesis Midiverb through the back, I play mainly heavey rock and a bit of blues, I find I always have the vibe switch on, it just sounds more natural. I usually have the gain on both channels all the way up, with bass on around 4-5 mid on 9 and treble an 7-8, this gives me a real gutsy crunch. One of the things that sold it to me was the sustain, you can go and have a bite and come back and you would still be hearing that one.

Reliability : 8
The only problem I have had (and this may be down to the footswitch) is with changing channels. Sometimes when I'm using the clean channel the OD2 channel will keep cutting in. I don't gig so i don't need a backup.

2001. Tube preamp, solidstate poweramp. 65 Watts out of one 12" HH Invader speaker. Clean channel with a bright-switch and two overdrive channels. Enhance button (shapes the sound of the mids) for the overdrives. Two separate reverbs. Footswitchable reverb / channels. (footswitch not included)

Sound Quality : 9
I use it for a variety of styles: jazz through an Ibanez AF120 hollowbody, blues/country through a Yamaha Pacifica 604W and rock-metal through an Ibanez S540FM.

The clean channel is solidstate, but it sounds very lush nonetheless. The cleans are very "hi-fi" and sound excellent for jazz and clean parts in rocksongs. Just add a touch of reverb and chorus and you're wailing.

The two overdrive channels are driven by a preamp tube. There's a vibe switch which supposedly gives you a "big" sound at low volume levels... Never switch this off! Never. The amp sounds a lot more natural with the vibe switch on.

Overdrive 1 is basically your rhythm channel and overdrive 2 your lead (solo) channel. Both channels are capable of excellent sounds. For blues (clean-but-with-a-slight-grind) or country try OD1 with the gain on 3-4. Then for solos in that style, switch to OD2 with the gain on 6-7. OD1 will sound quite spanky and fresh in this setting, whereas OD2 will give you a fuzzy Hendrix-type sound.
For rock keep the gain for both channels on 10. OD2 on full gain is perfect for searing rocksolos. The sustain is nothing short of brilliant! Play around with the enhance feature to shape your desired mids. From fat (enhance all the way down) to scooped (all the way up).

The only thing that's not really within range here is heavy metal sounds (I'm talking serious distortion a la Pantera/Slayer, etc.). But you just add a MetalZone to the clean channel and that's solved.

Other than that, very versatile and with convincing tube sounds.

Reliability : No Opinion
Only had it for a few months, but it looks to be very solid.

Never dealt with them personally, so I won't comment, but they should update their website. The links to the user manuals are dead.

Overall Rating : 9
Really fantastic value. Here in Belgium it's about 100$ cheaper than a Yamaha DG60 and about 200$ cheaper than a Marshall AVT50.

It does many things well (jazz, blues, rock, country, alternative,...). The sounds are plenty and convincingly tube-like.

So whether you're looking for an all-round workhorse or a cheap-but-convincing rock-amp, give it a try!

I use a washburn lyon and play mostly punk and grunge stuff, and this amp is really good for that. Drive 1 is great for punk, like ramones and rancid stuff, and you can even get a cool nirvana sound, but for that i use my boss pedal. The drive 2 is good for metal stuff, wich i don't really like, so i don't use it. It has plenty of power, when i practise with my band i set the volume at 6 or 7 and that's enough. I compared it to fender roc pro 700, peavey bandit, some marshall's valvestates and it's better then all of then. The clean chanel stars to distort just a little bit at volumes past 8.

I'd use it without backup.

this is the 2001 model. it has a tube preamp and solidstate poweramp, and a 12 inch speaker. it is extremely versatile, more so i think than a full valve amp, which is why i didnt get one. its also lighter. 3 channels, clean and 2 OD, clean doesnt use the tube in the preamp but still sounds great. one 3 band eq and reverb knob for clean, another for dirty. fx loop, line out, footswitchable channels and reverb.

Sound Quality : 9
i use an ibanez RG565 with 2 seymour duncan humbuckers, both can be split and used as single coils. i play a variety of styles, from mellow worship music (hillsongs etc) to christian rock (DC talk, newsboys, delirious) to alternative rock (the feelers, pearl jam) to (real) metal (joe satriani) and this amp is good for all of them. i would love to play U2 but i dont have a delay at the moment and my band isnt really into them, and this amp cant really emulate the edge's tone. i have also been known to thrash out some dead easy dropped-D 'metal' occasionally just for a laugh and it does fine at that too. not too much noise, my pickups make a bit of noise in single coil mode but the amp itself is pretty quiet. as far as tube emulation goes, its not perfect but i reckon this amps about as close as anyones got so far. better than the marshall valvestates.

Reliability : No Opinion
only had it a week, hasnt broken down yet (as you would expect). it seems pretty solid, i very much doubt it will break down- i tend to treat my gear pretty nicely.

ive been playing for about 8 years but this is my first real amp, i previously owned a fender frontman 15w practice combo, which obviously cannot even be compared to this amp. i have a DOD FX65 chorus pedal, which complements the clean channel nicely, and am hoping to get a wah and a delay and maybe a compressor some time soon. it blows away anything peavey ever made and edged out the marshall valvestate of similar specs, which incidentally cost $400 more, although the laney was on special, down from $1200. if it were stolen or lost i would replace it, although id try to get a second hand one (im a poor student). if i had lots of money id keep this for its versatility but id buy a vox AC-30 so i could sound like the edge. as far as i know there is no reasonably cheap amp in existence that actually sounds like an AC-30, and if this one did, it would be absolutely perfect. because it doesnt it only gets a 9, but by my criteria a 10 is impossible. basically this amp is as good as it gets for affordability and versatility, and i highly recommend it.

TF 200 is quite versatile. I has a clean channel, and two overdrive channels, headphone conncetion, effects loop, ECC-83 tube in the preamp, reverb plus bright switch (adds extra brightness in middle and treble strings) and vibe switch (which gives you a station -sound).

Sound Quality : 9
I have a two-year-old Charvel LSX III with standard humbuckers - a metal man's choice, I think, though I'm not into metal that much, and I'm thinking of getting a new guitar. With channel 1, with gain set at 5 to 6, you get nice, AC/DC -kinda overdrive, which isn't too muddy but just CHUNKY. If you turn it up to 8 to 10, it takes you closer to Bob Mould's sound when he was still in Husker Du, even with my guitar.

Channel 2 gives you nice lead tone that stays quite tight even with gain set at 10. And with those settings, the rhythm tone is pure metal. I tune my guitar down to E flat, so unless I use the bridge humbucker, the lower strings sound a bit muddy.

Clean channel is really nice and doesn't distort even when turned up to 10 (and it's LOUD).

Reliability : 9
I think Laney's are wery reliable. I've had this one for less than a week, so I really can't tell. Anyway, it's previous owner told me he'd never had any problems, whatsoever.

Just like I said, I bought this one used, so I really can't tell.

Overall Rating : 9
As an overall rating, I'll give it a nine. It's great, but not perfect. Clean channel is really nice and warm, and channel 1 gives you a good, basic overdrive sound. Channel 2 is good for leads, but slightly too metal for my taste plus a bit muddy (although the problem could be with my axe, as well).

I have the updated '99 version of the amp which is as standard but with a 12 inch HH Invader rather then the Vintage speaker. It has a real Tube in the preamp alongside three channels, vibe and bright switches which cut the mid range (vibe) and boost the mids on the clean channel (bright), reverb, seperate EQ for distortion and clean channels with Enhance knob for the gain channel (which scoops the mids out for any metal moments). On the back of the amp their's the standard headphone, lineout and effects loop and space for a reverb switch pedal and a channel changer (which have to be bought seperatly).
I've used this amp at a couple of small gigs and many rehersals and the 65 watts has cut through fine. However, as with all amps the projection is fine far away but up close and personal (i.e standing next to it or just infront of it) tends to give a false impression. This is a fantastic rehersal amp and is fine for small pub size gigs but for anything larger you need an extra cab to make sure your heard.
The good thing about this amp is you get every feature you need without any useless extra ones thrown in. You can use all of them and they all sound good. You can eek out preety much any sound you want.

Sound Quality : 10
I use the amp in conjuction with a BOSS ME-30 multi effects and a Tangelwood Rickenbacher styled guitar. Not exactly the axe of choice for an aspiring rock god but it gets the job done. It has a set of three humbuckers with are a little muddy in the bass but very clear with exellant quility sound in the mids and treble. I play a lot of different styles and this amp works for all of them with an exellant clean sound and a nice sweet spot on the overdrive channel for any twangy R&B you might want but one thing I forgot to mention earlier, this amp is dirty. Turn the gain to eight or nine and you get a nice, searing distorted tone but crank above this and the amp reveals it's true purpose. It snarls, it spits and to put it in the most cleched way possible it rocks. My band straddles punk and the hip-hoppy sounds of Nu Metal and it's perfect. Even with the un rocky Tanglewood you get a fantastic lead, rhythm sound and is plenty loud enougth to blow out a window in a confined space.
Even without noise supression the signal stays static free and feedsback better than any amp I've heard yet. The clean channel is VERY loud and dosn't distort and has an exellant tonal range.
For my personal taste the gain channel could have a little bit more variety because it skips from distorted to grrrrrrrrrrrrrr in about half a twist which is tyroublesome for fine tuning and the overdrive channel does need some work to get a really good sound but, once they work, boy do they work.

Reliability : 10
I would, will, have and wouldn't think twice about using it without a back up. The speaker bounces at high volume and if you sit on it will give you not un-pleasant massage. The cloth at the front flexes with the speaker and pulsates when you drive the volume past seven (which looks great)aND GETS VERY HOT AFTER ABOUT HALF AN HOUR above seven.
It's never (fingers crossed) broken down and after a year and a bit sound better that the day it was bought.

Customer Support : No Opinion
3 year warranty (I think), 90 day tube, 1 year speaker. Tube and speaker easy to find.

This is the 1999 model and so far not one minute problem.
The amp is perfectly suited for our styles, we play G'n'R and Metallica For GNR I have the enhance on about 5.5 and for Metallica I turn to about 10!!
It has Three very different sounding channels. Shame no footswitch supplied but I got one. Effects loop and headphone jack is apparent.
I wish it has a solo volume because I am the Lead Guitarist. We've done a few gigs but with my Cabinet it seems about 200watt. I can definetly notice the vavle shame it's not in the clean channel

Sound Quality : 10
I have an Ibanez RG470 and a Epiphone SG Both With humbuckers...Perfect Sound Good bass, middle and treble range.
It easily suits my bands style. I have 0 noise because I have a noise reduction unit. But even without it you only notice noise at about volume 4. The vibe switch is a very nifty device perfect for solo's.
When I practise I can my amp to sound like Hendrix right through to Metallica. The clean channel does not distort even at volume 10 which is VERY LOUD!!! The distortion is really good and Punchy with a good projection........It's not muddy

At higher volumes the speaker does bounce but you expect that. I haven't tryed it at volume 10 Thank GOD. It has never Broken

I love everything about the amp 65 watts not a problem with cabinets at the ready. I would compare this with the Marshall VS100R and VS65R and I'm afraid it sh*ts on both of them and it reeks.

This is a 1999 model, damn versatile. I play anything to everything but my favourite is Hendrix.
It has three channels, headphone, efx loop, line out, bright switch, Vibe switch, channel 3 has really cool enhance knob makes you really thrashy.
It is only 65w rms, I would like a bit more power. It struggles at gigs to cut through the drums and bass. Tube Preamp, fairly light , 12 inch HH speaker.

Sound Quality : 10
I use a squier strat with standard pickups.
drive 2 is great for coaxing EC type sounds in Bluesbreaker vintage, very quiet amp.
The sounds that come out of this, clean as a whistle, to dirtier than the local landfill. Really nasty distortion when you try. It has a clean to rival fender I think. Very smooth

This is a 3 channel British made amp with a 12 inch HH speaker. Its a tube pre-amp and is rated at 65 Watts. It has a clean, ctandard overdrive channel and the 3rd channel is overdrive with an 'Enhance' setting when turned up creates a scooped and very crunchy distortion. All channels are foot-switchable. There are 2 separate eq's and 2 separate reverb settings. It has a speaker output, headphone output and stereo effect loop. Extremely versatile for rock through to blues through to metal. Only problem is the chrome dials are very hard to read and the finish on the cloth speaker cover isnt excellent.

Sound Quality : 9
Semms excellent so far and Im yet to see everything its got. I use an Ibanez EX240 and on the 3rd channel I get excellent Metallica style distortion with the enhance and gain levels cranked. Very chunky. The standard overdrive channel can produce a great rock sound with a good sounding 'ALive by Pearl Jam' sound. With a bit more tweaking Im hoping to get a good blues sound which I havent quite mastered but Ive only owned the amp a week. I havent cranked it past half volume yet but I shouldnt need to cos that was bloody loud as it was. The clean channel(with a bright setting)seems to stay clean even when quite loud and there is hardly any hum or hiss on the overdriven channels. Any noise is probably due to my pick-ups any way. At the moment I love it.

Reliability : No Opinion
Im hoping its reliable but of course its hard to say. It seems to be built very well and they seem to have a very good reputation for being hardy amps.

Ive only been playing just over a year so Im not an expert but I know what I like and Im very happy so far with this amp. I compared it with a 100W Trace Elliot Super Tramp, Marshall 65W Valvestate and a Roland 60W GX408. This seemed to have the greatest range of sounds and 'ballsiest' distortion. A free foot-swith would be good but at $80 I can't complain. At the moment Im more than happy but if this changes Ill be sure to review this review. At this price and power rating I would definately replace it if lost or stolen.
