Bought this amp in 2003 secondhand. It's built in '98, and its the upgraded AxSys 1.05. I use it with a Koch PedalTone tube preamp.
I had a Ax2 but I liked the sound of the AXSys 212 much more. IMHO it sounds even better as the Vetta (both ofcourse in combination with the Pedaltone).
You realy need the Line6 FloorBoard to enjoy all the features!
I play in a Jazz/Blues band and play worship in Church, so I like the amp for its versatility and I just have to place the amp and plug in. No more stress!! I play for more then 35 years, so for an old man like me this is very good for my health.

Sound Quality : 9
I play this amp with a Koch Pedaltone tube preamp to get a warmer tube-tone and to get more dimension in the sound. This combination cuts through the mix like a real tube-amp. Without the Koch Pedaltone it sounds poor in the mix of a band. The combination Pedaltone/AxSys sounds the best. With the Ax2 or the Vetta its not as good as this combination.
Some sounds are realy good; Roland JC120, Fender Twin (I own a Fender Super Twin Reverb - without effects the Super Twin sounds better, with effects this combination sounds much better - the SuperTwin sounds bad with stompboxes or soundprocessors), Vox AC30 (warm!), Marshall JTM45 and the Boogie Rectifier.
The Matchless and Fender Bassman are nice. And I created a FenderChamp kind of tone with the Combfilter effect wich I like very much (Clapaton - My Fathers Eyes).
I rarely use the distortions of the AxSys - the distortion of the Koch Pedaltone is much, much better. I sometimes use the distortion effect of the AxSys, to color the distortion of the Pedaltone a little bit - mostly Tube Screamer Medium.
Delay, Chorus, Flange, Phase, Reverb and Tremolo are good. The Wah is good when you get a warm dark tone and put Wah-depth at about 60-70.
Wihout the PedalTone I give the amp a 6. With the PedalTone I give it a 9! Very good combination!!!

Reliability : No Opinion
No problems untill today with the amp. Twice a year I take out the amp and blow it clean (I think dust is a big problem for this amp)
The Floor Board is a different story. I had to buy a new one because the old floor board gave a lot of problems. Till now no problems with this floorboard.

Customer Support : 4
Don't know. I miss a place on internet to exchange sounds with other users (like Vetta and other new products).

Overall Rating : 9
I play for more then 35 years and used a lot of amps. The combination AxSys and Koch PedalTone is good enough for me for this moment. I like the fact that you can plug it directly into the PA (it sounds very good) when you play in big halls.
I prefer my Fender Super Twin Reverb for blues, but when we play also Jazz or Rock I prefer the AxSys/Pedaltone because of the versatile sounds. And for worship I only use theAxSys/Pedaltone combination.
I own a Fender Custom (with EMG DG-20), Gibson Les Paul studio, Godin Multiac, Taylor 812 CE and some hand built guitars.
I like the fact that I also can play my acoustic guitars over this amp! I use the Fender and Taylor the most and they sound beautifull with this combination.

Not going to list all the features, if u r reading this then u probably already have a good idea. have owned this amp for about 5 years. used for gigging 1-2 nights per week for the last 3 years.

Sound Quality : 6
have used this with many different guitars. have played primarily in a covers band. this amp has been great for copying the sounds of the original recordings we covered, and i have become very reliant on the patches i have created to do this. i couldnt have pulled off alot of the songs we have done with just a basic guitar/amp setup. i have had some problems with noise at some of the venues we have played. i also use a digitech whammy pedal and have found that the amp and this pedal together sometimes create noise whereas seperately they dont (wierd). the original speakers never provided a nice tight sound and i now run it into 2 1x12 vintage celestion cabs which sounds much better. i tend to agree with those who have said this amp doesnt cut through the mix so well. i get all the volume i could want with this amp but seem to go deaf (along with everyone around me)trying to hear myself above the drums. in saying this, i have a friend in another band with a really expensive Riviera amp who has the same problem. ive also found that a concrete floor makes this amp sound really terrible (more-so than other amps). when i hear other good amps i can dfinitly hear something in the sound that this amp lacks. on its own it sounds pretty good.

Reliability : 3
over the years i have had alot of problems with it. also alot of embarrassing moments on stage. who can afford another one of these for back-up?

Customer Support : No Opinion
have emailed Line6 before and they were excellent, however, here in New Zealand we have these monkeys who distribute Line6 who are complete a-holes and are imposible to deal with over repairs (or anything else for that matter). Line6 get a 10, Music Link get 0.

Overall Rating : 6
Been playing 15 years. havent owned any really great amps. this amp is all about convenience and the ease at which u can dial in different sounds/effects without having to own tonnes of gear. for the money it really is pretty good i guess. i have often thought about getting rid of it and getting something else, but the thought of the amount of gear and money required to get a good amp and all the effects has put me off. my band has recently called it a day, so now i am seriously thinking would be a good time to get something else. if it was stolen and i could get the money i paid for it back i would probably buy something else- maybe a JMP-1 or ADA with a good effects unit as the guts of my sound.

I played this amp four or five times in different stores when I was out looking for an answer to dragging around and setting up my extensive pedal board at gigs. And, I drove the sales guys nuts 'cause I played it for long periods of time, checking out all presets, as well as building sounds myself. The amp can go from very bright, ultra clean to massive fuzz, with various gradations of distortion/overdrive in between.

I've tried out several of the modeling amps - - AXSYS, Vetta, Cybertwin, the Yamaha modeler, Vox, Marshall JMP pre-amp (I call it a modeler 'cause it attempts to emulate a variety of Marshalls) - - hoping each time to find an acceptable solution to hauling around tons of equipment. I am not a tube "snob" in that while trying these amps out, I did so open-minded, actually hoping they would do it.

To me the AXSYS is one of the better sounding modelers. I kept going back to stores to try it out again 'cause at first I was intrigued by going from a Satriani to SRV sound with a flick of a switch or two.
However, the last couple of times I took a guitarist buddy with me. He too was intrigued the first time. The last time, we took turns playing, then standing back and listening from various points in the tryout room. Then, at one point, we both looked at each other and said, at the same time, "Naw . . ."

To our ears, like other modelers, after the initially "wow, that's kinda cool" sensation, the digital sound of the amp eventually begins to become more and more prominant. I can sit with a nice tube amp for hours and not get ear fatigue. I began to get a bit annoyed with the digital sound of the AXSYS after a while. If your old enough to remember, it's kinda like when Yamaha came out with its first mass produced digital keyboard - - the DX7. Everyone had to have one 'cause of it's new digital sounds and crystal clarity. Eventually, over the years, however, it seems that many keyboardists now seek to somehow get back that fat, warm, soothing analog tone - - at least for some of their sounds.

In addition to the digital thing, the modelers, while they can get very loud, don't have the "presence" of a tube amp. I've personally seen bands where one player has a Flextone, and another has a tube amp, for example, a Soldano. While the band is not playing, the Flextone sounds loud. But kick in the drums and bass and aggressive vocals, and the Soldano just cut through far better. One gig was particularly a shame, 'cause the Flextone player was really good and I would have liked to have heard him better.

I've also played in a band with a great player playing through a Cybertwin. We did several gigs together. I never could hear or feel
his sound very well - - made it difficult to work with on stage. Yes, I heard volume, but not the "feel" of his notes or chords. Never had that problem with other players playing tube amps that had sufficient wattage for the situation. 100 modeling amp watts does not produce the same results as, for example, 100 watts in a Fender tube amp.

Before you buy a modeler, set up a good tube amp (e.g. a Fender Twin) of comparable power and speakers (the AXSYS has 2x12's) next to the modeler. Play the same guitar, with the same tones and volume through both, going back and forth. I (and my buddy, and, I assume, many others) hear more "presence", more "punch", more warmth, and more "musicality" out of a tube amp.

It's not a matter, as at least one review suggested, of tube "snobbery". Rather, it is a matter of some basic principles of sound. Overdriven pre-amp tubes can actually begin to "compress" the tone and red-hot power amp tubes produce certain musical harmonics, and the power amp tubes actually work with an overdriven speaker to create a unique sound and feel. That's how some great records were recorded using maxed out little Fender Champ amps.

Anyway, digital stuff has come a long way, but it has yet to be perfected. I'd guess I'd take the risk of overstatement and say that if you've played through a Line 6 POD, and you think that produces great tones, you may very well love the AXSYS. Just to me, however, both the POD and AXSYS, have some sounds that are cool, but are more of a novelty. At this point, I just can't use a digital modeler as my main rig - - and that was the whole purpo

I've been playing for about 30 years, from rock, to hard rock, to progressive rock, to blues, to R&B, some funk, and some very, very
basic jazz. I used to work in a couple of guitar shops, and have tried, and heard many, many, many amps - - tube, solid state, and, more recently, modelers. I play Fender Strats, Tele's, Gibson Les Pauls, and a Gibson ES335.

I bought this amp new in '99. 100W (2x50) with 2 12" speakers. This amp simulates 128 different tones, effects and amps. Plus 128 user programmed banks. Love the variety of effects, wish it had a pitch shifter though. It's got quite enough power for me not to have to bring my 4x12 to gigs. Powerful enough that I don't need to turn it up past 9 o'clock! I love the fact that it got rid of my stomp boxes or my Digitech RP pedal and I only have to load in one box basically. That's a plus cuz we play constantly and loading effects plus amp head plus 4x12 cab gets old. And I'm lazy..

Sound Quality : 10
I use it with 2 Les Pauls, PRS Custom 22, Gibson SG - all with stock pickups. I play in a gigging cover band so it fits well with all the variation of rock that we play from rock, alternative, hard rock, to metal. I haven't noticed a whole lot of noise live, I've recorded with this amp on 3 CD's so I can't say that it's been too noisy. Clean channels are damn clean, the Roland patch for sure. Distortion is nice and smooth, I've received many compliments on how smooth it is. The other guitarist in my band bought one also and was not happy with it's tone. He was in his late 30's and I've noticed that the guys who hate this amp and think it sounds cheap are always the older "tube fanatics" that think digital amps are crap. Funny how my Marshall patch sounds just as good as his Marshall, and then later when he got rid of that my Boogie patch sounded as good as his Boogie he bought. It's was fun to duplicate everything he bought! Whatever...

I can honestly say that I CAN DEPEND ON THIS AMP!!! I have owned this amp for 4 years and have gigged regularly with it and it has only needed a soft-reset once. I have played live with this amp almost every single weekend for 4 years and it has outlasted a hand full of amps that my other guitarist has owned! The only protection I have for this amp is just a nylon slip cover and it gets banged around plenty, loaded in the rain, snow, and played outdoors in the Texas summer heat (106 F)!! I never have a back-up amp cuz I don't need one, but if I did my POD is waiting!

I've never had to call them. I'm sure they are nice guys...

I have been playing guitar since I was 11, I'm 31 now. I've owned cheap kid amps, then a great Fender (that I still have), then a Marshall, now this Line 6. It's a very versatile amp with many tones and the built in effects are the bomb and make everything so much easier. In my cover band, I use a lot of this amp's capabilities to emulate the groups we cover and it always works great. Before I bought it, I compared it to the Johnson and something else I can't remember but when I played it at the store I fell in love with how smooth it was. I would recommend it although others rate it so poorly cuz I find those who are unhappy with it have grown up playing Marshalls or own bad-ass Boogies and won't really give this digital amp any time to appreciate. I will put mine up against anybody else's amp cuz it has probably 300 gigs under it's belt at this point. When I wear this thing out, I'm gonna buy a Vetta...

I will tell you the built in speakers suck. No bass and no dynamics. BUT... I am running mine into 2 Marshall AVT 4x12 cabinets and the sound is awesome!!! (The Marshall AVT are 8ohm and you need one cabinet for each channel) Now pumping out tons of tone through 8 12" Celestron Speakers. Its not a tube but I will put this thing up against any amp on the market and it will rock with the best.

Reliability : 10
Have had it for 5 years and no trouble. However its in my studio and not subjected to road use.

I bought this amp about 6 years ago as an AxSys
and upgraded it to an AX212.
Extremely versatile amp. If you don't know what you're doing, you'll get very lost, very quickly. The presets suck badly, so it's important to learn how to tweak this thing.

Sound Quality : 7
Decent for what it is, but it can't go head-to-head with a good tube amp. I do lots of recording straight into my computer and this sounds great for that. Better than a POD or V-Amp by quite a bit (probably because the sounds can be tweaked so precisely).
For live stuff I use it with a small tube amp to add some chewiness.

Reliability : 9
5 years of heavy use with no problems. It recently stopped working and I had the local repair guy fix it. He tried twice and eventually replaced the whole board. Only charged me $200 NZD.
I wish any tube amps I've owned could be this reliable.

Customer Support : 9
The local dealership has always been really helpful.

I've been playing for almost 30 years and this is an important tool for me. It's more important for me to be able to quickly access a wide variety of sounds than to reach sonic bliss for a short solo. It's about the music, right?

I've grown to like all styles of music. So versatility is key for me Has many features. If you are a computer nerd it will definately keep you happy for awhile. Most features will never even be found by most people (or used if they were).

Sound Quality : 2
I would have been very impressed with this amp when I was a beginner, because I didn't know what good tone was. This amp sounds good until you turn it up loud enough to hear. At any realistic volume, it is possibly the worst sounding amp I have EVER heard. Horrible speakers for a 1000.00 amp. REALLY BAD. I bought it used from a guy that was so irritating that I gave him the money just so I could leave. Bad mistake. If you are an experienced musician, don't waste your time. I've even tried other identical ones at guitar center thinking mine was just messed up. Nope. I has a million really stale, toneless immitation sounds. NO DYNAMICS, THIS IS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO A TUBE AMP.

Reliability : 2
It worked O.K. for awhile, but the gremlins finally found it. Imagine a really messed up computer. Now imagine that it is your amp. There ya go. I wouldn't use this live. EVER.

I've been playin' for a long time. 20 yrs or so. I'm confused as to why there are positive reviews of this product. It must be me. The only thing good about my experience with this amp is that I was able to trade it straight across for a DC-5 Boogie. Now I have real tone and real versatility!!!

been hobbying 28 years, would NEVER GIG W/ THIS! Now I'm doing a boss gt6 thru a marshall TSL 100 stack and a little crate 80w 1-12" combo for the stereo. Fly is the main axe now. Running the piezo to a crate acoustic 125 amp. Wish this would take a lightning hit or something, will try to sell when received back from factory.
