I only really ever use the insane setting. More variety than I really need, but thats ok. It sounds kind of weird when you switch through the different models really fast, I like that. The headphone jack is lame, doesnt get loud enough.

Sound Quality : 10
I play in a goth/grind band, mostly covers (skinny puppy, nin, etc). This amp totally gets me the shrill harsh tone I need. Alot of people complain about line6 amps sounding cold and sterile, and not like a real tube amp, as if that is a bad thing! Well, if i wanted that wuss-ass "warm" tone I'd be playing a tube amp. The spider has a futuristic distortion all its own. Sounds like guitar amp distortion, but pointy and digital. This is the real sound of modern music.

Reliability : 10
I accidentially destroyed one of the speakers because I got a little carried away while customizing the grill fabric and sliced the cone. It sounds kind of cool though so I left it in. These amps are so good, they sounds great even if they get a little fucked up. Right on line6!

Customer Support : No Opinion
They are probably cool, but I dont want anybody touching my amp.

Overall Rating : 10
Best amp ive ever owned, period. Instantly got me the harsh, abbrasive tone I struggled so hard to get from my marshalls (had a jcm 800 and a valvestate). and I use fewer pedals now too. It looks pretty cool stock, but with a little customization you can turn it into an angry cyborg amp from hell.

I beleive it was made in 2000 I bought it in 2001 and it's great. The amp is quite the chamelon for tones. you can play anything from jazz to metal. it has 4 channels a headphone out,a flange, trem, and chourus. the chours I use it kicks ass, it has this thick shimmering quality about it. the flange I never use. it's too thin and it has no way of controlling the depth just speed. I wish it had a out for an external cabinet. I use this amp in my room and at band practice. WHen i was with the band i had trouble because the other guitar player had a 100 watt Marshall stack and the bass player had his amp on the ground wich means trouble and the drummer, forget it. I had to keep turning up but it was o.k.

Sound Quality : 9
I play zeppelin and Rhoads, bright melodic rock. I use 2 guitars, the first is a les paul knock off and it sounds fat and creamy with the spyder. the other is an olp with open coil humbuckers and it sounds punchier with the amp. the distortion goes all the way to the INSANE setting this is excellent for hard rock, think Van HAlen, Rhoads, and zeppelin. the clean sound is great even turned up high.

It is a great amp it's the most bang for the buck. If it were lost or stolen I would find the guy who stole it and I'd kick his ass.

This amp allows you to create anything for virtually any kind of music that you want to play, its recto setting could have more "balls" though.

Sound Quality : 9
I use Ibanez guitars with their stock pickups, and it sounds great. The amp isn't noisy at all, the only problem is that there is a little bit of gain on the clean channel, but that can be fixed if you do it right. The insane distortion is crazy.

Reliability : 10
I've had the amp for just under a year now, and it hasn't given me any lip.

Customer Support : 9
Well, i managed to get an amp cover before my guitar dealer did, unfortunatley i got killed by duty tax, i ended up paying about $130 for a $49.99 amp cover, but its a good cover either way.

Overall Rating : 10
I think this is a great amp for the price, it's loud, its got "balls," its got it all. I don't understand why some people don't like them. If your too dumb to understand technology, then you have no buisness bashing the amp, you just need to not be a troglodyte.

The Spider 212 was made this year. I found that the tones were absolutely amazing. Everything is right there in front of you and it is quite easy to tailor the overall sound you are looking for. I was impressed by visiting the website and even more impressed with the ease of operation, I barely had to read the manual that came with it.

Sound Quality : 10
The Guitar I'm using is a Warmoth custom designed guitar similar to what a PRS looks like. It has dual humbuckers! It has a Floyd Style Whammy so my music mostly sticks to the heavy side. The wide range of the Spider's tones are very cool. The clean channel is very cool, I have a distortion box as well, and I can get an amazing dirty Eddie Van Halen clean sound.

I just Traded a Marshall in for the Line6 Spider 212, I can put all my faith in it 100%

This is a 2001 year Line 6 Spider 212 Combo amp. I play mostly pop-punk and progressive rock (Rush!), with a little of everything else thrown in. There are 4 channels, expandable to 12 with a floorboard. The Amp models are quite useful and diverse (you'll find yourself playing with them far more than the effects). As much as most people decry solid-state electronics, this baby really shines among them, especially if you don't want to be locked into a limited range of tones. The digital effects are nothing mind-blowing; they sound good and they can be turned up, down, or off. Finally, at 100 watts through 2 12" speakers, it's about as powerful as combo amps come.

The only way you can get more features at a better price is grand theft, so it's a 10.

Sound Quality : 9
I'm using a single-coil 1999 Standard Strat, so it gets some audible hum no matter what. The noise gate helps, though; on bridge/mid or neck/mid, it is quiet as a mouse. On anything with humbuckers, noise is a non-issue. As far as amp models are concerned: The "Twang" setting gets a lot of punch and distinction at high gain levels; "Recto" has a lot of growl and still has good tonal clarity, works well for Rush; "Crunch" is a bit muddy for most of my music, but I like it anyway. If you've ever thought "Gee, I wish I could turn that gain knob a little higher" you probably won't with the "Insane" model. I don't use that one at all; you can actually make it sound distinctive, but it's kind of hard since even the slightest vibration in the strings produces a very loud tone. Admittedly, the clean model isn't super, but I don't use it. Overall, it rocks for small venues, and could take a club quite well. Again, very nice for the price.

Reliability : 6
The first model I got looked like it had been on the floor for a good while, I thought it was OK after a brief demo... then I discovered the input jack was broken. Apparently the spring or whichever mechanism keeps the conductive parts together was broken (i suspect after some moron fell on it with a cord in). Picked up a new one the following day; it has worked fine since. Seems to have no problem playing very loudly for a long time. I don't anticipate any problems, but I can't give it a terrific rating.

Haven't dealt with the company.

They tout this animal as an aspiring guitarist's "first serious amp," and that's exactly what it is to me - and I love it more than some jerk who had daddy buy him a Marshall stack. Hey, it's not the best amp on earth, but it does the job and works until I'm out of college.

This amp is SO COOL! You guys nailed the Rectifier sound. It actually sounds like a Mesa (and I've played 2 of them now ) Could use a little more control over the chorus and flange though. Been playing Marshalls all my life and this thing has more bottom end than any Marshall the same size. Wicked ! ! !

Sound Quality : 10
I use a B.C.Rich Warlock (arcrylic)with stock passive pick-ups and a Strat style with an EMG-81. As many have said, contrary, I love the clean sound. But what do I know, I'm a hard rock player and rarely ever play clean. I love the insane amp. Can't even describe what it sounds like. Very original and edgy. Love it !

Reliability : No Opinion
Can't say cuz I've only had it for about a week. Let ya all know in a year or so. Ha ha ha

I've been playing for 12-13 years and tried everything under the sun. Can't compare this amp to a full stack cuz it's in a different catagory but I can say that anyone who needs a full on sound assault, this amp WILL deliver. A little word of advice... if you're using the insane amp function, back off on the bass... IT'S WAY TOO MUCH ! That's probably a good thing though.

Six amp models (clean, twang, blues, crunchy, recto, insane), 5 presets, only ONE input, bass/mid/treble settings, onboard flange/chorus/tremolo, onboard delay/tape echo/ping-pong, headphone jack with 'air' technology (makes directly connected recordings sound like a mic'd recording), channel/main volume switches...A nice package for the price, though I have to wonder why Line 6 chose some of the effects they did...Distortion is all onboard - if you can figure out how to adjust the settings you can get pretty much every standard sound you want (I say standard because there aren't any tone modulating effects onboard) - adding the optional foot board also gives you a wah and volume effects, but this is another gripe - you have to pay $250 for the floorpedal, while the effects are built INTO the amp! So the wah and volume effects which I feel are quite neccessary often go unused, but are there nonetheless.

Sound Quality : 8
I play an Epiphone Les Paul Standard with the stock pickups, and I generally play blues, a lot of classic rock, and quite a bit of metal, and of course I have to dip into alternative music every once in awhile (the alternative of yesteryear, like RHCP, the GOOD stuff) and frankly the Spider is great at getting me all the sounds that I need. HOWEVER, as much as I tweak and tweak I'm rarely ever TRULY satisfied. I mean, you can be happy just playing and sounding GOOD, but there's something to be said about sounding TRUE...like, it's impossible to get a good clean sound from the Spider (and from most Line 6 products I hear) - just not sparkly enough, and gets very muddy when you turn the gain up on clean...sorry Line 6, but clean seems to be out of your reach! As you know, a clean tone should be able to take some gain for that extra tone, and the treble should sparkle and the bass distinct but not overbearing...the Spider is horrible at this. Twang is good, but does NOT remind me of a Fender AT ALL...it just sounds good *shrug* As you get more distored the Spider ROCKS, seriously...You can get really down and dirty with this amp, really bring the roof down! It's also very quiet on the noise level (I get almost none) and with its power it proves to be great for gigs. And don't let my review of the clean settings to discourage you, like I said, it sounds GOOD, just not TRUE, but if you really want true you can shell out 2-3 times as much for a real tube amp : )

Reliability : 10
Super reliable - solid state so nothing breaks! Of course, I take really good care of my stuff so hey : ) - But after looking over the amp, I can say with 100% assurance that it is well-built and TOUGH for that matter!

Customer Support : 8
Have not had to contact customer support, so I don't know how they are...But as far as I can tell, the online support is great! You can even ask questions that the Line 6 staff will answer on their webboard. Pretty cool, but really I don't see why you would actually need customer support : )

Overall Rating : 9
I needed a powerful/loud amp that was relatively cheap...I actually wanted a Fender but after looking at the price tags for their 2x12 amps and also checking out the prices on the effects pedals that I would have to buy, I found the Spider to be very attractive...You get all your effects onboard, and the ones you don't get aren't used that much anyway. All in all, I would suggest this amp to anyone getting serious with their music...However, if you've busted onto the music scene, I would not suggest Line 6 because you'll never get a true sound out of the amp - it's digital, of course. If you just want to sound great at gigs and such, then buy a Line 6, save money to mod your guitar and stuff, and keep playing!!

I bought this amp last year in the spring and its awesome. Everyone else already described the features and I have nothing to add except the fact that it cannot be driven through a cab of 4x12 speakers which I'm very pissed about and didn't know until the return policy was over.

Sound Quality : 7
It sounds great with all the options that are on it. Although I have a problem with it now. For somee reason, at random times, it begins to buzz for no apparent reason. My friends tell me its the jack but I really don't know.

Reliability : 7
Its alright...I've had it for a year and it worked great untill now. I gig with it all the time and its all good. There is also another problem with the pedal input. For some reason when I plug my fb4 in, I'm only allowed to access channel C and D and nothing else.

Customer Support : 3
The support provided sucks. I never got a reply to my e-mail refering to the fb4 problem.

Overall Rating : 5
I'm been playing to 3 years now and I've played on many amps at guitar center. I personally liked the Spider 212 because of its options and tone quality, but requires quite a bit of maintinence.
