The amp is a first generation Spider 100 watt 212. It has 6 amp models from clean to insane, plus it has several other effects like chorus and reverb and a few others I don't use so much.

Sound Quality : 9
This is my first digital amp. I bought it used because it was a good deal and I had heard good things about Line6. Some of the other reviews talk about it sounding muddy or not clean. This was how mine sounded when I got it home and plugged it in, I just couldn't get any decent tone out of it, so I went to their website and downloaded the product manual. It shows how to do a complete reset back to factory defaults. After that my amp came to life and sounds great. You have to remember that all the knobs are digital so if you go to a default tone, the position of the knobs don't matter until you move them again, then they work in the actual position that you set them in. It does have some quirks though. Like others have said, sometimes it sounds better than other times even though I'm using the same settings. I also noticed that just unplugging the guitar cord from the amp and plugging it back in can change the tone a bit. I use a Fender Strat, Gibson SG and a Les Paul and this amp makes them all sing. It seems that mid volume sounds the best but its too loud in my bedroom, bedroom levels still sound pretty good.

Reliability : 10
Its an older amp and it still fires up every time.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never use it.

Overall Rating : 9
Great amp if you can find one at a god price. I figure the original owner gave up on it and sold it cheap. But like I explained before, a factory default should bring it back. It has a lot of features that are nice to experiment with. I have two other combo amps but this is the one that I mainly use because of its versatility.

I love this amp! It has 7 effects, 4 simultainiously and 12 amp models. i cant get enough of this amp. i love it so much! It is 150 watts with 2 12 inch speakers. I use it mostly at home and it, even after a year, continues to blow me away with its solid distortion. one of my friends uses it at band practice because he loves it. he likes how he can do sweeping without it picking up the pulloffs that arent supposed to be played. I only have two complaints about it. The knob for the amp models doesnt work quite right. And, the main prblem is, that after about 6 on the master it gets some feedback. I have yet to figure out why but i bet that its my fault. i dont know what some of these other guys are talking about, this amp rocks! Also, when the amp powers up, it gives a cool light show which i think is neat.

Sound Quality : 10
this amp has sounds all the way from cannibal corpse to pink floyd to SRV and then to three days grace. The clean channels are thick and full and with my guitar, can give slight distortion at very high volumes. My guitar has two hummbucking pickups and has a tonne of low end. I adore everything this amp has and gives. I love the noisegate feature, My buddies have marshalls and at basically any volume they get smajor feedback. But i can turn mine up all the way with absolutely no noise.

Reliability : 8
I would put my life in the hands of this amp! It has never let me down. I have the fbv express pedal swithc with it and it always works great.

Customer Support : No Opinion
never had to deal with them.

Ive been playing three years and have been through fender and marshall amps and the line 6 blows them out of the water. I used to use a boss ma-2 metal footswithch but with the line 6 i don't need it. If it were stolen (i would hang myself if i lost it) i would either buy it again or buy the head and cab. I love everything but the amp models knob, it isnt really accuate. it gives feedback at high volumes but i think its my guitar. Im going to go to the place i bought it at (long and mcquade) and find out why it does it.

Our bass player suggested I'd look at Line6 amps when I was looking to buy one.
I've learnt 2 lessons in the mean time, 1 being "don't trust bass players with guitar amp advice" end 2 " don't believe the hype".
Many of the reviews here are quite positive and I must admit they partially contributed to my final choice, the Line6 Spider II 212...
I bought it sans floorboard and initially hooked my Boss ME-50 to it.
This can be done but it really is a terrible combination. You need to set the Spider as clean as possible to let your effect unit work but the final result is absolutely horrifing. So I ended up coughing up another 315 EUR for the shortboard, without which you can't really use the Spider in a live situation.
I stil rate this a 6 as it appears to be pretty verstatile and feature full, and first glance that is..

Sound Quality : 3
My main quibble is inconsistency. This amp sounds pretty nice sometimes but awfull most of the time... I have recordings were the thing really sines but other where it absolutey sucks, using exactly the same guitar and settings...

Reliability : 3
After 1,5 years, the guitar connector got loose, pushing the input inside the casing..
I managed to fix this issue myself but it confirmed my opinion that we're not dealing with the best quality amp...
It didn't really let me down during a live gig, apart from the varying sound quality...

Customer Support : No Opinion
ever dealt with them

Overall Rating : 3
Well, I decided to buy another amp, having a natural clean tone. I'll get my effects from either a multi effetcs pedal like the boss ME-50 or separate boxes.

I really believe I've given this amp a thourough chance, having owned it for nearly 2 years and twisted the nobs to find my tone but I still haven't found what I'm looking for...

Digital isn't just ready for prime time I'm afraid.

It has some good effects, but for recording, DO NOT USE THEM!!! They aren't quality effects and are only there to satisfy young kids who can't tell the difference.

Sound Quality : 2
It is very bad. I mean, try the distortion, it is heavy, dull, and a lot of low end. You can play clean, but the clean clips and gives you damn distortion anyway.

Reliability : 2
Had it fixed 3 times.

Customer Support : 5
Good, but still, I ain't the type to keep bringing it back to get it fixed, I want reliability!

This amp will sound amazing when a little time and effort are put into configuring the controls and finding the right sound for you. The presets can be quite instrument particular but once you have matched the amp you wont be sorry you bought it.

The only problem I had with the sound quality is that it doesn't sound substancial enough on low volume. It wasn't until I turned the volume up that everyone was blown away. And at a high volume when everything has some power flowing through it the amp can really sound atmospheric.

Reliability : 10
I have been practicing/gigging with this amp for a couple of years now and not a thing has gone wrong with it. Superb.

Customer Support : 6
I've contacted them via their website with regards to additional effects and things and they've always replied in a timely manner. Although I don't feel like I'm talking to electronics/sound obsessed professionals. Which is what I expect.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing far too many years to count and have gone through hundreds of guitars and amps. Some of my favourite amps to play through are old Peavey bass amps for simple clean and great distortion. However, I'm really sold on these modelling amps and I don't think I'll ever go back.

I've played Behringer and Yamaha modelling amps and I prefer the Line6 hands down. The effects are more specific but they're just what I'm after.

I would never, ever let this get stolen.

I have to say this was the biggest blunder i have made in guitar equipment over the years. I on a whim decided after reading some good reviews to order this puppy on-line without having heard it myself. (what was i thinking?) I have alway owned tube amps but had some good results with fender and roland solid state amps as well. I was on a budget and was getting back into playing and needed the most versitility for as little money as possible. This amp seemed to have it all with lots of power and effects at a decent price. The first time I plugged it in and started playing with the effects I felt like i had egg on my face. This amp has the most lifeless toneless sound of any amp i had ever played and ive played a lot. The effects are almost useless too much effect with very little control over them. I think If u are new to guitar and havent played many amps u might think this amp sounds good but if you have ever played anything halfway decent you will be very disapointed. I get much better sound playing directly into my computer and turning my monitors up. If u have ever played a fender, marshal, vox, mesa boogie, orange, peavy, matchless, ampeg......ect you will hate this amp. Please dont waste your money be patient save up and get a quality amp.

Reliability : 3
This amp started to pop and hiss after only two weeks. It did have a warenty and they did fix it but it didnt sound any better when i got it back.

Customer Support : 5
Well they were extremely busy and hard to get on the phone so i guess i wasnt the only one having problems. They did honor the warenty at least.

Overall Rating : 1
Ive been playing for almost 20 years can play almost anything prefer to play blues jazz fusion and classic rock. I have owned many great amps over the years including vintage fenders, marshals, vox, sunn, peavy, mesa, roland to name a few. I wish a had kept them all but having a family will change your priorities. The one thing i love about this amp.....hmmm well i love to turn it off. I hate the sound the tone and the effects pretty much everything not to mention it is very heavy and hard to move around. I was trying to save a buck and ended up losing $500. still trying to sell it no takers. If you are considering this amp please go to the music store try it out.

What the Spider's got :
- 2 12' Tube Tone speakers in open-backed cabnet (stereo)
- 4 user defined pre-sets
- 6+ Amp models
- 6 effects; chorus, flange, vibrato on one dial, tape echo, digital
delay & ping-pong delay on the other
- TAP button to set effect tempo/rate, treble, distortion & volume
boost, noise gate, compare mode
- headphone jack
- single instrument input

The Spider's dials work in a 'Dead Zone' style: when you switch from one preset to another, the dials will be inactive and not alter tone until they are turned past the point they were at when the setting was saved. Once you exceed that point, the dial becomes fully responsive again.
At first, this bugged me, especially when watching the dials on a Cyber-Twin 'magically' align themselves with the levels of their selected setting. Later, I realised the 'dead zone' thing was no big deal and easy to master. Anyway, the servo's auto-turning the Twin's dials seems like just one more thing that will eventually have to be repaired...

Sound Quality : 9
If you check the review of any amp in the Harmony Central database, there's going to be mixed opinions. No surprises there because appreciation of sound is subjective (as well as dependent on type of gear, style and level of play, and the ability/willingness to tweak the dials.) For that reason I'm going to avoid the 'real-tube' vs. DSP war and just give my honest opinions.

- guitars used : '83 Ibanez Roadstar, '99 Godin LGX, '02 Burns Bison
- musical style : rock (hard, progressive, punk)

The Spider comes with 6 presets : Clean, Blues, Twang, Crunch, Recto & Insane. Aside from the last, I found I had to experiment with the dials to get acceptable sounds from the presets. Once I did though I found them each distinct and emotive. That said, I felt the 'Crunch' channel didn't have the bite I expected from a Marshall-based mode although with the Drive cranked it gives a passable AC/DC. The amp does seem to tend towards 'bassiness' but this can be easily cut back; the controls all respond well; a slight turn of the dial can make a surprising difference in sound. All the models sound full and cut through at higher volumes, clean or distorted.

Brief reviews of the models after being tweaked:

Clean : once the chorus and reverb are dialed back this provides a neutral (though maybe a bit sterile) tone. Nice for guitars with accoustic piezo or transducer pick-ups
Blues : with the Drive up, this mode is soulful, dynamic, hot, resonant with a threatening growl
Twang : not being a country player, it took a lot of fooling around before I got a tone I like out of this. With the Drive, Mids & Treble up I get a fun Surf/Ska/Punk sound (East Bay Ray was my inspiration here)
Crunch : I take the drive off this and use it clean; especially good for accoustic piezo or transducer pick-ups (better than 'Clean' in my opinion.)
Recto : Full ranged sound that can be shaped by the Drive to fit almost any genre. I've got it set to a sort of jazzy, Steely Dan tone.
Insane : Sizzling. Tons of sustain, tight defined chords, stinging harmonics, beautiful muffled-E control

I use this amp for band practice where it has no trouble at all being heard over another guitarist (using a Fender head w/4x12's) or the double-bass drum kit. I've never had to put it past 7 and even then it keeps its shape, fullness and clarity. The Spider is surprisingly quiet even on high gain settings; I can take my hands off the strings at full volume, while on the Insane setting and hear neither buzz nor hiss. By comparison, a friend playing a Fender Cyber-twin couldn't shake the cacophony of cracks, hums and hisses coming out of his amp (and I didn't notice a sizable difference in sound quality between his rig and mine either.)

Reliability : 8
I've owned and steadily played with this amp for over 5 years. In that time I've had 2 of the plastic corners replaced (previous ones cracked)and the button for User Channel A has become 'sticky' and requires some jiggling to engage. Other than that, the Spider has performed without hiccup (ie; no problems with sound or function, knock wood)despite being submitted to the snow and sub-zero temperatures of five Canadian winters. Even the black 'tolex' exterior has survived bashes without gashes and hasn't faded (although that could be the Amour-All)

Customer Support : 2
Of course nothing's perfect: my problem with the Spider regards how it reacts with a recently purchased effects pedal (a Digitech EX-7.) No matter what I've tried (and believe me, I've done all I can do) I encounter persistant, significant line noise when using the two together. Changing location (home & studio), different cords and guitars, tweaking dials on pedal and amp, using a stripped-down clean channel & a power conditioner does nothing to solve the issue. When I try the pedal on other amps (digital or otherwise) it works without the slightest problem.
Emailing line 6's support brought a prompt reply but their suggestion (adjust pedal output) was third on the list of things I told them I'd already tried.
Kinda makes me feel like they're just giving lip-service, not reading their customers concerns...

Overall Rating : 8
Previously a singer/bassist, I bought this amp when I decided to get serious about my guitar playing. My only previous guitar amp was a Roland Jazz Chorus which didn't give me the versatility or heaviness I desired in my sound. In one form or another I've been playing for 15 years.

Spider Likes:
- the sound: if you can't find a sound you like off this amp you're probably not trying hard enough (and it's not that hard...)
- on board effects: what a relief to have quality effects built in. Admittedly, dedicated rack/foot units are going to have an edge here but the Spider's still sound great, especially the flange and ping-pong delay
- dependability: you've got to be able to trust your amp.
- plenty of power
- quick and easy set up

Spider dislikes :
- no foot control included. For the price, there should be.
- no effects loop, XLRs, or 2nd input
- achieving a late-night volume is a strenuous experience due to the sensitivity of the Master Volume. A volume that can be adjusted in increments (ie; using a rocker button) would be a vast improvement
- it's the only amp I've tried that refuses to get along with my effects pedal

I'll soon be moving on to an amp with more professional options (effects loop, XLR's, footswichable channels, pedal compatability, ability to drive an external cab) for use on stage but I don't foresee getting rid of my Spider. New guitarists especially will value this amp's versatility, dependability, sound quality and effects. It's definately helped me advance my playing over the last few years and I'd strongly recommend new guitarists or those looking for a wide palette of sounds add it (or the Spider 2 nowadays) to the list of 'amps to try.'

Mine is a 1998 and I have programmed in so many great sounds.
The Delay often leaves something to be desired...you can't quite get the "streets have no name" vibe going with it, but it's cool.
Amp is plenty powerful for what I use it for, and the clean channels are just as punchy as the crunchy ones.

Sound Quality : 10
I have used a Les Paul, Schecter C-1, a Taylor410ce, a Larrivee d3 all on this amp and they each were well represented.
Playing everything from metal to worship music, it is quite versatile and for someone like me 4 channels is plenty when it comes to pre-sets. At first the INSANE was just too much, but the more I used it, it blew away the RECTO setting and I primarily only go insane now.

Reliability : 8
The Amp has been great, but the only problems I have had with it, come from the floor switch, which often sticks and depending on the mood it's in, will or won't switch to all the channels, which sucks.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 10
A great amp! I have owned Peavey's, Crates and even some stacks and this Amp just beats them hands down for being a plug and play genius.
2 thumbs up.

Made in 2002. They made a new version which replace it - the spider II. Hopefully it works better than mine.
This Amp is VERY versitile. It has a 6 amp models(each with their own distortion settings, including an 'INSANE' setting which is quite mighty) and a range of useful effects. It has four banks where you can save you settings when you sound you like (apparently the footswitch has more built in banks). Headphone Socket. No output for connecting extra speakers, unfortunately. Not as powerful as i expected but is loud enough for medium size gigs. Doesnt seem to 'cut through' the band mix very well, kinda gets lost. Good all round though, shame it's a piece of junk (see below)

Sound Quality : 8
I mainly use an Ibanez RG reissue and the amp sounds pretty good for the rock/metal sort of stuff i do. The 'Recto' setting is pretty good but not that brutal. The 'Insane' is quite dissappointing, to be honest. It'll do for most metal but sounds a little bit weedy for really nasty metal but generally with the range of effects chances are you'll find something you like unless you'r a Dimebag wannabe (like me). When it's working (it used to) there wasnt really much noise even with lots of distortion at high volume. There are lots of cool sounds you can use, more types of reverb and echo than Edge can shake a strat at. Lots of variety. If you want a randall, Get a Randall. if not, this should be O.K. But read on!!!!

Reliability : 1
I paid #500 for it, more than i could afford but it sounded really nice. it worked ok for a few months (the odd crackly noise but nothing too bad). Then it went bad. I may have just got a dud but it think it is just a rubbish amp. I was doing a soundcheck for a gig and it went completely haywire. A godawful racket started belting out. Even with the volume really low it still makes a deep feedback noise at what seems like full volume. I have not mistreated this amp in any way that could have caused this. I sent it back to the shop FIVE TIMES, at some point every part of this amp has been replaced. It still sucks. It's out of warranty now and there's no way i'm paying to send it back for them not to fix it. I cant even use it in my room, i wouldnt dream of using it at a gig. As far as i'm concerned it's a piece of junk. It's rubbish, useless. A complete waste of money.

Customer Support : 1
DONT GET ME STARTED. I sent it back repeatedly and they were no help at all. Completely useless. the first time i sent it back it was under warranty., they replaced a few bits and bobs and it lasted a couple of weeks, then broke again. By then the warranty was out. I sent it back four other times and was charged between #65 and #80 each time. They claimed to have fixed it repeatedly (i'm not even sure they even opened it up. there was a piece of tape that would have to have been removed to open it. it hadn't) at one point they said they fired it up and that there was nothing wrong with it - my arse. I hate them. they were very uncooperative when i phoned them. I would NEVER give line-6 any of my money again. i feel like i've been ripped off.

Overall Rating : 1
It worked well for a while. i was very happy with it while it was working (even though it was slightly underpowered). It sounded pretty good. But it's so unreliable i dont even plug it in any more because i know i'll just end up diving across the room to kill the power and then have to apologise to the neighbours for 'that bloody racket!!!' I'm going to take the amp out and throw it away and just use it as a speaker cab. As i say, i may have got a dud amp, but my advice is to buy something that you know is gonna be more than a rest for you cuppa in six months.

I have played this amp through a stock strat, a prs custom 24, and a parker p-38. none of the pickups in any of these guitars could coax a decent sound out of the amp (not even the prs). I play with alot of distortion alot of the time, and found myself using the recto setting the most; it has the most sustain without the hissing and muddiness of the insane setting. the blues setting isnt bad, but it still sounds flat. in fact, every setting, except for clean, is the sensual equivalent to drinking ginger ale that has been sitting opened in a hot car for two days.
this was the first powerful amp I bought, and so for two years i didnt know what i was missing tonally: that is, until i finally started using the amp for live shows. i was thoroughly disappointed with the lack of power, clarity, and character that it exhibited. the drums and vocals both clashed with the amp, causing a very unpleasant listening experience. i used to think that the if you were truly a good guitarist, you could make any piece of equipment sound good. but i realized after playing a couple of shows with this amp that even jimmy hendrix wouldn't sound good, if all you heard was mud bubbling from his amp!
dont buy this amp, because its useless in any venue: its too loud and heavy (literally and tonally) for a practice amp, and too crappy sounding at high volumes, and then not quite powerful enough to be heard clearly over a loud drummer. save yourself some cash and buy a 30 watt vox if you want good tone for the bedroom, and save your patience and buy a real amp (marshall, mesa, framus) if you want to have good live tone. dont make the same mistake i made, and make a hasty purchase for a product that you didnt research at all. i think that a lack of research could be the only reason that line 6 sold any of these things at all, or else lots of grandparents were buying their grandkids line 6 spiders, along with XXXL t-shirts with mickey mouse on them.

Reliability : 8
it has held up well for the last 4 years, although ive only played it live a few times (once is more than enough!)

ive been playing for ten years, and i this amp has been a thorn in my side for nearly half that time. now that i am finally making some money, i am anxious to get a real tube amp with more power and feeling. if this amp was stolen, i would consider its performance punishment enough for the criminal.
granted, i am not the most knowledgable about amps, and i have not owned many in my life, nor have i tested out as many as i would like, but i know when something doesnt sound good, and this amp fits that build.

Alright this was not my amp and i used a Schector OMEN 6 through it when making some demos. this was the other guitarist in my bands amp and he kept it pretty clean but drenched DRENCHED DRENCHED in reverb. the reverb drenching made it sound pretty good and almost like my vintage reverborocket(MY HOLYGRAIL OF TONE). the problem is that when I took the reverb off to try and get my sound it sounded like crap. my main stage amp (at the time a solid state fender that had a good clean channel) had broken and this was the only amp in the house at the time so i tweaked at it for 2 days straight. This amp does not get tube emulation at all. most line6 products dont although the pod easier to use then anything else. All the models sounded so fake to me that i couldnt believe anyone would want to buy such a thing. at least with a pod you can record it into the red on an analog machine or use it through a tube powerstage using an effects loop. I cant give it a 1 being as it is decent and if played through by a good enough player it would serve well. Line6 should have gone back to the drawing board with this as it sounds so bad

Pretty cool effects. There's a whole lot you can do with it. As for the style of music I play, let's say I'm a punk who loves Tool. we'll leave it at that. It has met my every need. only thing it lacks is an output jack...no adding a 4x12 with this. But I've used it for recording and gigs and it's worked out well.

Sound Quality : 10
I'm playing a Scheter Omen 6 Diamond series and a guitar I built that had 2 single coils and a Symore Duncan Invader in it. Way too much feedback, but turn it down and mic and it's cool. The Clean channel gets pretty distorted, i play with my highs and lows at about 7 and my mids at 3...but the distortion that way gives you this gnarly metal groove.

Reliability : 6
I used this amp all summer without any problems, and then one day it just cut out on me..it just...wont turn on....

Built in effects are pretty sweet; reverb, chorus, and delay are all pretty useful. Some of the amp models are decent i guess. The area this amp lacks in is inputs and outputs. 2nd input would be nice, external speaker jack would be nice, an effects loop would be real nice. A digital amp without midi? whats this?

I play mostly blues and jazz and also jambandy bluegrass stuff like the String Cheese Incident and Phish. I play a Les Paul DC with 490s and a Strat with G&L pickups. I mainly used the blues model which i believe replicates a Marshal. It sounded decent, a little sterile, but decent. The clean channel is clean. Very clean, so clean its scary. but i guess its got its purpose. I used it to amp my acoustic electric sometimes. The crunch, recto, and insane were noisy as hell so I never used them, plus i don't play that kind of music. the twang is supposed to model a Fender tube amp. It is way to harsh. I could never get a good sound out of it. Funny thing is I sold the line 6 to buy a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. not harsh at all. Theres something about the warmth of a tube amp you can't get no matter how many engineers and computers you use. For a modeling amp this thing is'nt too bad.

Reliability : 10
Built solid. No tubes to break. I'd kick it down the stairs and expect it to fire up again. Not that i would do that.

Never called em.

Overall Rating : 6
It's decent. Thats about all can say. Its good for a beginner who hasn't got there style nailed down and wants to experiment. For a more experienced player, I say get a real amp.

Line 6 likes features.
This amp has 6 models: Clean, Twang, Blues, Crunch, Recto, and Insane.
It is sold as a 100 Watt amp, but is really two 50-Watt amps side by side.
There are 7 effects to choose from, but you can only use three at any time, and only if one of them is reverb. One dial has flange, chorus and tremolo. The next has delay, tape echo, and ping pong. The last dial is reverb.
There are both a channel volume and a master volume, and these are separate from Drive.
One input, one stereo headphone jack, and a proprietary pedal jack are the only holes in the front of this thing.
There is also the standard Bass, Mid, Treble EQ arrangement.
They all seem to work in their own way.

Sound Quality : 8
I play a Jackson DKMG, modded with an X2N in the bridge and a Breed in the neck, both by DiMarzio. I play Rock 'n' Roll with a lean in the metal direction.
Seeing as this amp has 6 amp models complete with preset EQ and effects, I'll explore them individually.

Clean: Dial back the effects and this is squeeky clean. This amp model is a little flat without the effects, but it is the loudest of the six available models, so if you want volume, plug a pedal into this one. I don't use this model much.

Twang: This is a really nice little model which sounds good with or without drive. I use this one almost as much as I use the recto setting. Twang is supposed to model the fender bassman, but like all digital models, it is only a digital model. Ignoring any side by side comparison, however, you can really start to enjoy using this thing.

Blues: Supposed to sound like an old Marshall bluesbreaker. The overdrive on this model is a little too 'dirty' for my tastes, but a litle tweaking fixes that. A nice sound at medium volumes (about10 o'clock on the Master dial), but not my fav.

Crunch: Talk about no soul. This model is thin, soulless, and, well, crunchy. I don't use it much at all, and I don't like it much at all.

Recto: My very favorite amp model on this amp. It doesn't even come close to sounding like the Mesa Boogie dual rectifier that it was modeled after, but thats beside the point. This model gives me the greatest sonic range of any individual model in this amp. The drive can be made to sound nice at almost any level, and the EQ's tend to have more range here than on the other models.

Insane: Almost useless and very noisy. Even with the noise gate on and my pickups dialed back, feedback is a nuisance on this model.

Despite a couple of bad seeds, this amp has adequate sonic variety to keep rocking. The high rating discounts the models I didn't like.

Reliability : No Opinion
Hasn't broken yet.

Haven't dealt with this bunch beyond sending in my warranty card.

Overall Rating : 7
I purchaced this amp with a discount. I think it reatails for close to 600 bucks American.
I didn't buy this amp with high expectations for the 'tube emulation', and was therefore not dissapointed. If you want tube sound, buy a tube amp.
I have been playing guitar on and off for the last fifteen years, and have tried out many many many different amps. I would not have purchaced this amp if I had not got such a great deal on it. I would rather have the Mesa Boogie, or a nice THD, or even the Soldano SL (Mmmmmm....Soldano), but for just over two-hundred bucks...well, you can't beat that.
If this amp were stolen, I would wish bad things on the thief, but would not replace the amp. I would go with something tube.
As for the 100 watts...well, as the amp is turned up past notch five or six, nothing much happens. The thing is completely saturated halfway up the dial. Line 6, don't make the master volume go all the way to ten if the sound won't follow it up there. And how about a nice effects loop? How hard can that be? As for all of you complaining about a speaker jack: It didn't have one when you bought it. If you want a 4x12, buy the spiderII head.

This amp is an overall winner for the price.

Features : 2
Features are VERY limited for a fairly expensive amp (when new). I've
never found out who makes the speakers.

I kinda like the instant 4 presets, but I still couldn't use them instead of the pedal I use. The headphone jack is useless if
you use any kind of effects pedal, but it's nice to have if you
don't.

The features MISSING from this amp are CASTERS (hello Line 6) a second
input, speaker out, and effects input.

The Line 6 site claims that speaker out is an advanced feature, I say it's silly not to have them.

Line 6 also cautions against too much gain usind a pedal on the guitar input. WHAT??? You leave OPUT an effects input THEN disclaim responsibility if the owner uses one??? That's stupid.

Hey, the 4 button external pedal is $100!!! WHAT???? Jeez, can this
be so expensive to include? Fender has been making reverb/tremolo pedals for what... 45 years and they include it? I'd say that not
copying a sucessful business model is corporate suicide.

Lastly, they "say" that it's stereo, but even with the tape echo I can't get a decent believable stereo effect.

Oh, I like master volume controls in a tube amp, I cant't see what it does in solid state amps, over drive the over drive transistor :-)

Sound Quality : 4
The "modeling" is pretty limited, and with only 4 presets almost any amp
with a decent pedal that costs $150 you can get FAR more sounds
from a used any brand amp and save a LOT of money.

I say that this amp is NOT 100 watts, I don't care what kind of meter
Line 6 uses, I have a Marshall 100 watt tube half stack, and a Fender
Quad Reverb that make this 100 "watt" amp sound like a cricket in a windstorm.

This is not a big deal, I really NEVER exepected this amp to perform here, as I've met few smaller solid state guitar amps that had the
power I expected from them.

Reliability : 8
It's never broken on me, but the flimsy rubber logo on the front fell off... bad choice of glue :-)

Customer Support : 8
Never used them, but their website has manuals and FAQ's.

Overall Rating : 2
I've been playing over 20 years, and have been blessed to have owned many "classic" amps and guitars. If this amp were made 20 years ago,
it would be the cat's ass, but nowadays the bar is Way, way up, and
a few cheezy presets don't go far to wow me.

For a lot less money you could buy an as new Fender 2x12 combo, and
multi-effects pedal, and get much better results.

If I compared this amp to a Fender Ultimate Chorus (available for $300 used) and almost any effects pedal from Boss, korg, and the ilk
you'd be on top of the Line 6 by a lot.

As a practice amp in your living room, it's OK... beyond that, it's too limited for practical use gigging, unless you play in church halls
and can't afford, or won't use effects pedals. If you play in Bars

If the Spider 2x12 got lost, I'd buy something else like a little
Marshall top practice with.

If you use an old style amp with NO effects and no pedals, you may like the Spider 2x12, but try one before you buy it, and I don't mean
a 10 minute wonder tryout in Guitar Center.

I bought this the first year they came out. I bought it because it was cheap and I needed an amp and it did sound good in the store at moderate volume. That ones on me, because I should have taken it into the "loud room" and would have exposed it for the fraud that it is. It features 6 models, 100 watts, nice delay, dont use the flanger because I own the real deal....an Electric Mistress, lots of other useless features to cover up the fact that the tone is missing. I should have bought a POD. That way I could have had even more unrealistic amp simulations and not have lug this thing from gig to gig. What good are features if there is no soul to be found. Those that have tasted the real thing know exactly what I am talking about. Those that love this amp.... you only THINK you know what tone is.

Sound Quality : 5
I play a Gibson Les Paul and a Firebird V with mini humbuckers. All of the models are just ok, I use the clean model, the twang model with extra gain and the recto with some of the gain rolled off. I never use the harsh insane model. I play in two bands. One is an original jamband ala Phish, Grateful Dead, WSP. And the other is original southern rock/blues ala Gov't Mule and The Allman Brothers. This amp has a wide variety of sounds that are not that great. I bought this amp before I was in either band and I convinced myself it was woth it. That was until I was trying to keep up with our other guitar player's Fender Deluxe, which regularly blows my ass out of the room. I have finally come to terms with the fact that this amp isn't all that great. Basically it sounds thin and crappy when turned up. There is no sweet spot at higher levels. Plus, it has made some strange unwanted noises during numerous gigs. I miss the glory of real tubes. This is a fake.

Reliability : 5
It's never let me down as far as breaking down, so that's a plus. But the shitty tone and the noises lowers the score here.

I've been playing for 25 years. If it were stolen, I would hope the asshole that stole it would have it stolen from him. If I lost it, I would take that as a sign....I wouldnt buy another line 6 anything. I am saving my gig money to buy a Mesa Boogie. Even a Studio 22 would be better than this amp. I'm getting rid of this thing as soon as I can

4 channels, 6 modes each, lots of effects. footpedal doesnt really switch smoothly... theres a small break which bothers me. i dont use the effects very much. you can buy a big footswitch which makes them easier to use i guess. you dont have much control over the effects. price is for amp and 4 button footswitch. an 8 because of the switching and effects, it replicates different amp sounds really well. the modes can go either way, you could get a modern metal sound or a classic rock tone out of the recto channel.

Sound Quality : 10
this thing is pretty loud for 50 watts. i usually play in my room at about 3. i had it at 12 o'clock and my friend was really surprised it was 50 watts. when you put it on 10 its not terribly louder than 12 o'clock but still pretty loud. the clean channel is very clean with gain on 1 on 10 it breaks up and you get a sort of bluesy tone. the modern channel is pretty hissy with a lot of high end but you get great harmonics and screaming distortion through my jb jr in the bridge position. you can get a good rock sound with the crunch channel, through the neck pickup on my strat i can get bend with tons of character. i dont really like the effect and dont use them much. but you can get some good depth with the reverb, and the effects sound pretty good.

Reliability : 5
i knocked it over once and the nuts on the input jack broke. they're plastic. lots of plactic on this. havent had any serious damage to it. i assume the jacks and knobs are attack to the boards because the jack didnt fall out when the nut broke. not the most rugged construction ever.

Customer Support : No Opinion
never delt with them.

Overall Rating : 10
i've been playing for about 5 years. i have a fender strat with a jb jr. in the bridge. i've had few crappy amps before this so this is my first "real" amp. its very versitile. i can get a good tone on what ever style i try to play through it. it was lost stolen blew up etc. i'd probably look at some tube amps (i am now anyway). for an intermediate player this is an excellent amp. my guitar teacher who tought my dad when he was a teenager uses a line 6 (vetta i think) and he's one of the best jazz guitarist in the area. i dont think you could get a better amp set up for the price so a 10.

Digital amps are VERY reliable. I've struggled with old tube amps for YEARS.... and it's a pain in the ass if ANYTHING fails. You got so many expensive tubes and you have to bias correctly.

I tried a Marshall TSL 100 and it only had one good sound, Petal to the metal. MesaBoogie Dual Recto sounded noisy to me. Like you had 3 distortion petals hooked up together in series. I then tried the Line6 stuff and was amazed at the their mastery of the digital domain.
Line6 claims to have replicated the Recto sound and even IMPROVED upon it. I still miss the real tube tone. Would like to get a JCM 800 or Bogner ubershall

100 Watt 2x12" Speakers, 6 effects. (Chrous,Tremolo,Flanger, 3 delays)
Can get a variety of styles on it. Loud, no feedback. READ THE MANUAL DAMMIT! IT TELLS YOU LOTS OF TRICKS SUCH AS NOISE GATE, GAIN BOOST, ETC... Many people have given this bad reviews comlaining about feedback. First of all, these is dependant if you have a high as hell output pickup(s). Second, If your turning the gain/treble all the way up, expect feedback. Third, they never read the manual and never knew a noise gate existed. So seriously, read the manual it'll take about 5 mins tops, and the outcome you learn is worth all the time.

Sound Quality : 10
Ok, if you go for that natural, tube-tone. This is NOT YOUR AMP. This amp is 100% digital and digital is line 6's expertise. Quiet clean and quiet clear distortion. All of the amp models really shine in their own individual way. But remember, your guitar plays a huge role in the tone. The effects are very nice especially the delays and chorus. The flanger and tremolo are pretty useless in my opinion. But thats just me. If you are looking for Digital tone, this is YOUR AMP!!!

Reliability : 10

6 For Line 6's customer support. They're not too great and can be lazy a lot of times. So, try not to break anything.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for a while, and still in search of "my tone." I play countless styles such as blues, metal, funk, progressive, rock, 80's, 90's, and more. This amp really brings out my clean "tone." Probably the best deal by line 6 for the quality of this amp. I have previously owned other amps and they were great sounding, but I would get distortion cleans and feedback when gigging. Defiantely a must-buy for the digital tone cravers. I like a natural tone a lot but with digital, its like a cheap way out. However, everyone has their own taste in sound and music, so this can not be debateable. Don't take my word for it, but definately try this out.

2003 Line 6 Combo, This amp does everything you could ask except phaser but i hate phaser any ways. It has 4 channels (foot switchable) No effects loops but a headphone jack. I only wish the distortion wouldnt get so thuddy at high volumes.

Sound Quality : 8
I use a Gibson Les Paul Classic Plus w/ orginal gibson pickups in it, this amp and guitar were made for each othere im tellin ya. At times the AMP was noisy until i read the MANUAL somthing a lot of you dont do!!! theres a noise gate on the amp hold TAP and turn REVERB past 12 o'clock. The amp does anything the clean channel is crystal CLEAR amazing works good if you use RP2000 w/ it but i got this amp to throw that processor out. The distortion all though gets thuddy is unbeleivable for a solid state amp in fact i will never buy a tube amp again. Ive been playing for 10 years owned at least 100 amps and this is the one, only wish they made a SPIDER head.

Reliability : 10
This amp after i added a fan works perfect i never use a back up because i treat my amps good and make sure nothings about to "fall off". Its made very tough, anyone raving about a marshall lemmi tell you they SUCK with reliablity!! TUBES although sound great make a great amp SHIT lol (as stupid as that sounds) plus everytime you turn it on it sounds a little different this amp sounds the same all the time good!!!!.

Customer Support : No Opinion
NOPE never will either i fix things myself i know how to do all that maybe a lot of you who are having problems with your amps should learn HOW YOUR AMP WORKS ,maybe learn to fix it yourself!! Line 6 builds a hell of an amp its up to you weather the thing lasts or now.

After 10 years of playing actually now that i think about its 11 years i have never heard a more dynamic guitar amp (i tried trhe flextones and Vetta and duoverb) this one to me sounded the best the other line 6 amps dont have the ease of use this. If it were lost or stolen i would not think twice about getting anew SPIDEr other than possibly getting the Flextone II HEAD for my 4x12's but this 2x12 is plenty loud, also go out of headphones into a 100 watt head into a 4x12 and bam your amp is going through a 4x12 with the 2 12s bypassed pretty nice many of you complain about no speaker out!! THINK a lITTLE!! I only wish this amp hadnt gotten the ridiculoud reviews many of the SO CALLEd guitar players gave it, if you know how to use and amp any amp youd know this amp kills anything in its price range and more.

2002 model. This amp can do just about anything you can ask for. I play Contemporary Christian rock, and this amp gives me tons of flexibility. With the Pedal board, I have great access to the effects. Only real gripe I have with this amp is that when you change amp models, there is a 1/2 second of dead silence. It's not too noticable in most of the music I play, but sometimes, it sticks out there like a big zit! I would also like to have a little more flexibility with the effects, but this is the Spider line so I can't complain.

Sound Quality : 10
I'm using an Ibanez SZ540QS with it right now and I love it. I used it with my Jackson PS7 for a year and a half. This thing has more amp models than I can use! With 100 watts of power, I have played a few shows without even being in the PA, wasn't by choice, but this amp had the guts to still push my leads out there.

Reliability : 7
I rarely ever have a backup amp on my gigs with this amp as my main unit. I have had some problems with the amp getting too hot and cutting off for a second. It's usually not a problem, but I make sure there is plenty of air to circulate around the amp now when I play a live show. Also be careful with the control cable to the pedal board as it seems a little easy to damage.

Customer Support : 3
I emailed Line 6 several times about the overheating problem, and the only answer I ever got was.....ship it to Atlanta and let their techs look at it and see if we can do anything.... Not really the answer I was looking for, so I just make sure it doesn't overheat when I play now. I have even gone so far as to place a small fan, and I do mean small so it doesn't blow into the mic, behind the amp to keep the air moving.

Overall Rating : 8
Ive been playing for 15 years and this is one of the best sounding amps I've ever owned or played on for that matter! If it were lost or stolen, I would probably upgrade to the newer Flextone III 212.

Excellent features for the price that is put into this amp. It has more than any other amp for the cost and is quite user friendly. I play mostly metal and alternative and it fits the sound for every tone that is necessary to create and record great music. There are no effects loops...but with line 6, who needs it???

I use the Ibanez RG series which seems to be made for this style. Heavy...Heavy and more heavy. Anyone who has a problem with the sound of this amp, knows nothing...and I mean nothing about sound. For those who prefer analog...grow up!!! Times are changing and you guys are about to become dinosaurs!
The insane setting is just that...Insane. I get one helluva ripping tone and the clean channel is unmatched by ANY other tubed amp I've ever heard. UNMATCHED. I record music professionally and have yet to cross a sound that touches the price and the dependablity of this amp. Marshalls, Randalls, Boogies...Look out! You're about to be replaced. I sold my fender set up just to get it.

I bought the amp used, but it only had dust inside(near the speakers), so it was no biggy. This truly is "for everyone". Its got everything you'll need for a interm. guitarist. I traded in my Marshall: MG30DFX for this beast, and man, I will NOT regret that!

I use a Stratocaster with a Seymour Duncan: Hotrails bridge pickup and a Charvel: Model 4 through it, and it sounds just awesome! Everything from Alice In Chains to Mudvayne can come out of this amp. Thoughs are the styles I play, and they really come out.

Clean- OMG!, by far the nicest clean channel I have heard. (I played alot amps before I played this one so I could find the right one)
Twang- Bluesy style w/ light dist. nice for a song called "Bleed The Freak" by Alice In Chains.
Blues- The same thing really, just with a lil' bit more dist.
Crunch- This is kinda like Stone Temple Pilots distortion, which I personaly like, not too aggressive, not too soft soft, just right!
Recto- HAHA!, my absolute favourite!, I have never played a real Mesa/Boogie Rectifier, but man, this sounds MORE than enough to me! I like to think of this style as a Fuck-You-In-Your-Face tone!
Insane- ok, this is the only one which I will not laugh at. This style here, seriously is too heavy for me, ..I love Mudvayne. This style is kinda simular to the Recto, only WAY more gain. It reminds me of Peavey: 5150. However, its still great.

Um... This is a review to update my previous one. I thought this amp was good... I mean, it seemed good with all the amp models and effects. But to tell you the truth, it's really not that great. It's got a lot of features, I'll give it that. But the sound is crap, I'll get to that soon.

Sound Quality : 5
I used this amp with a Fender deluxe fat strat modded to have two humbuckers, a seymour duncan invader and a gibson 57 hum. I had to get them to mic it up cause yeah, it was loud enough to play without micing, but it sounded like total crap if I turned it up really loud. I've discovered that digital really isn't my thing, cause it lacks a warmth and depth to the sound. Most of the sound is flat. It does sound pretty good at really low volumes, but it's total shit at high ones.

Reliability : 9
It's VERY dependable... it's never gone out on me or anything.

I hate their customer support. They give you crap answers that don't tell you anything. I had to send them about 5 emails to get the right answer I needed. What a bunch of crap.

Overall Rating : 6
I've been playing for about 2-3 years... and I've been able to judge sound and tone by now. When I first got this amp, I had just started to play guitar and I thought this amp was pretty cool. But I've discovered digital really isn't my thing because to me it lacks a depth and warmth to it [no offense to all you digital users out there]. But I have found a half stack that I'm going to get in place of this amp. It's by a brand called B-52 and it's the LG-100A head and 400 watt cab. This is all you need for great tone, it can stand toe to toe with mesaboogie's rectifier distortion. I highly suggest checking one out. All you need is an effects processor or several effects pedals, and you've got a great amp. And it's only 350 for the head and 350 for the cab. But don't let the price fool you, it's an AWESOME amp for the money. Check it out at b-52pro.com [it's the solid state stealth series, not the tube] I think even the dedicated tube users will like this amp. Go by guitar center and see if they have one in stock. I highly recommend it. Again, Line 6 really tried to make a good amp. But overall, it's just not that great of an amp, and it's definetely not worth the retail price of 650, but it might be worth the 500 I payed.. I'm not sure. It's a good digital amp, but it's just not for me.

THE AMP WAS MADE IN 2000 I BELIEVE, I PLAY MOSTLY SOUTHERN AND CLASSIC ROCK. 4 CHANNELS, THIS AMP HAS WAY TO MANY FEATURES FOR MY LIKINGS, I LIKE IT TO BE SIMPLE YOU KNOW. THIS AMP HAS LIKE 20 MILLION DIFFERENT ECHOES, THEN A WEIRDO FLANGE, PLUS A STUPID TREMOLO SETTING WHICH I FOUND USELESS. I USED THIS AMP TO GIG WITH, 100WATTS WAS WELL ENOUGH POWER FOR ALL MY GIGS. I SOLD THIS AMP TO BUY A FENDER HOT ROD DEVILLE I JUST DONT THINK DIGITAL IS MY CUP OF TEA.

I USE AN EPIPHONE SG AND FIREBIRD VII, THE SG HAS 2 SEYMOUR DUNCAN PICKUPS A CUSTOM 5 AND A PEARLY GATES. THE FIREBIRD HAS FACTORY INSTALLED MINI HUMBUCKERS. THE CLEAN SOUND I GOT FROM THIS AMP WAS OKAY FOR SOUTHERN ROCK, BUT THE CRUNCH AND RECTO SETTING WERE WAY TOO WEIRD FOR MY STYLE. IT JUST DIDNT SOUND RIGHT PLAYING 60S AND 70S ROCK. THIS AMP WOULD BE PERFECT FOR NEWER ARTISTS. I NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH HUM EXCEPT FOR THE INSANE SETTING WHICH IS A TERRIBLE SETTING. IT BECAME VERY THIN SOUNDING IN LARGE ROOMS TO GIG IN, I DIDNT LIKE THE SOUND I GOT FROM IT AT MOST SHOWS. THERE IS ALOT OF VARIETY IN THIS AMP THOUGH, JUST NOT WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR. I FOUND THE CLEAN CHANNEL CLEAN AT ALL TIMES EVEN WHEN CRANKED. WELL THERE IS BASICALLY THREE DISTORTIONS FOR THIS AMP: CRUNCH, RECTO, AND INSANE. IT TOOK ME MONTHS TO GET THE CRUNCH TO MY LIKINGS BUT OVERALL IT SUCKS. RECTO WAS JUST ALITTLE TOO HEAVY FOR ME, IT WAS NICE FOR HEAVY LEADS THOUGH. I HAVE BEEN PLAYING GUITAR FOR ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF. IF THE AMP WAS STOLEN I WOULD JUST LAUGH AND GO BUY A REAL AMP. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER LINE 6 AMP. DONT GET ME WRONG THOUGH THIS AMP IS PERFECT FOR "NEW ROCK" BUT SUCKS AT CLASSIC ROCK. THIS AMP WAS PERFECT FOR JUST PLAYING AROUND WITH, IT MAKES ALOT OF FUNNY WEIRD NOISES. OVERALL THIS IS WHAT I HAVE TO SAY. IF YOU ARE A NEW ROCK OR METAL PLAYER BUY THIS AMP, IF YOU LIKE LYNYRD SKYNYRD, JIMI HENDRIX, AND SRV DO NOT BUY THIS AMP.

My amp was made in 2002, I've had it for about 6 months. The effects on the amp itself are very versatile and produce great sound, more than enough for all but serious professionals.Wish it had an output jack for a 4x12 cab, if it did, I would rate it a 10.

Sound Quality : 10
I play a washburn mg34 with a dimebag humbucker, and an ibanez rg470 with factory pickups.I play rock, from ac/dc to zeplin, to newer metal, like pantera and godsmack, no weak ass shit here.It comes with 6 factory amp models, but 90% of the time, i only use the clean and the insane. The clean is outstanding, it took some fiddling with settings(guitar and amp),but the end result is a crisp, full sound with no noise and very little dist. The insane setting f**king rips. Again, after some fiddling with settings(drive10,bass9,mid8,treb6,no eff)i got one incredibly faaaat, thick, nasty metal sound that has enough drive to knock shit off the walls. only problem is feedback at higher volumes. haven't tried a noise gate yet. only happens on the insane setting. I've tried several distortion pedals, trying to get that nasty sound w/o the feedback, but none came close to sounding as good, i'll live with the feedback.bottom line on sound; this is one badass metal amp, with a great clean setting. oh, by the way, this thing is LOUD.

Reliability : 10
One look at this amp tells you it's for real. It is solid, sharp looking, and quality constructed.I have had mine for about 6 months, playing every day, loud, with no problems at all.no need for a backup.

I've only been playing for about 1 1/2 years,I also have a peavey studio pro, and a gorilla tube cruncher amp.for the money, i would not even consider another amp.I love the volume, and the insane distortion, needs an output jack, and less noise .

Six amp models to choose from. You can set four presets. No effects loop! That's because they want you to buy their floorboard with built in wah and volume pedals. I haven't tried one, but evryone seems to dislike the floorboard. I think I'll stick with my Bad Horsie. Six different types of modulation, and delay/echo effects.

Sound Quality : 10
I play Ibanez guitars. Most any setting sounds good on it. The sound quality is exellent. I can get SRV, Satch easily enough. Nice hard crunching Metallica with the recto mode. I can get a nice funky sound with some tweaking on clean mode.

I'm a one man band recording my own stuff in my home built studio. This amp is perfect for studio work. I haven't tried it out in public yet. Hopefully I won't have to find out how reliable it is.

I got this amp as a Christmas present last year. I saw a Spider 112 in a music store and I liked the tone there, although I had to play quietly and only for a short while. I got the amp and I had only been playing for a year. I loved all the tones it had to offer, the clean tone with chorus, reverb, delay, flange etc. It was wonderful. I enjoyed playing it in my house by myself. Then I brought it to my school and played in a crowded room, and it started to sound crappy, I was mad because I thought someone had screwed with my settings, but no one had touched it, the sound just decayed and sounded like crap at high volumes. Then I took it to my friends house and we were jamming. He has a Marshall AVT150, it fucking creamed my spider in volume and in tone. I was embarrased to be playing with such shitty equipment that I had bragged about previously.

Sound Quality : 2
This amp decieves you, if you play it alone at low volumes it sounds fucking amazing, if you bring it to your friends house who has a tube amp (marshall, boogie, etc) you will be blown out of the water. The tone of this amp is digital shit, a mere toy for a beginner guitarist. Only buy this as a practice amp or if you plan on exchanging it when you realize that it cannot contend with a nice midline tube amp.

Reliability : 10
Well it works, doesnt change the fact that it sounds like shit.

Customer Support : No Opinion

I play hard rock with humbuckers, but also play blues with my strat. The sounds are true and convincing. I have made demo tapes wit the line out feature and got a superb sound. Do not care for the reverb to much though. The distortions are clear, and you can have pretty much gain as you want, depnding on the settings. Sorry Marshall lovers, this is better than a Marshall. Not quite as good of a drive as a boogie, but for the price it is worth it.

This amp suits all my metal needs. This thing came level with the drummer at about 3.5! 4 channels, but you really do need the FB4 footswich for live work. I wish it had a FX loop just to make it perfect. This thing will blow your windows out at 5 volume. Chorus is great and flange is good but it isnt very prominent on clean.

Sound Quality : 10
You need a good guitar to run this through coz if you have bad pickups it's gonna blow your ears up from the highness of the pitch. I use a maverick F3 with duncan pickups. This suits any style of metal. And any other style out there if you tweak it enough. This thing is noisier than a super volcano! The variety is endless. Clean doesnt distort at all. And i cannot describe the saturation distortin this has. I aint never played a tube amp but i cant imagine anything more distorted than this baby.

I bought the amp not to long about, probably 3 months ago. It has a few differnt distotion chanelles which are supposed to represent other amp sounds. they dont at all. I dont like any of the distortions except the Insane setting but that setting is great. The tape echo is fun for when your sitting around home boring, but becomes a pain in the ass to shut off at times. Im not into using effects really..so I never use them and wont leave a comment on that.

Sound Quality : 9
I play in a punk band, and use a Stratocaster (doublefatstrat) but i replaced the pickups with 2 emgs, yeah almost unheard of, but its awesome. anyways...the only way to get good distortion out of it is to use the insane. well for me..i guess i play punk but like a metal sounding disotion with great highs, i have a really bitch of a time hitting harmonics that sound clean with it..but never the less i hit them and they hurt, haha. Well i bought a box for the amp that brings in the sound threw the openback and shoots it out the bottom, and it just boosts the volume. Leaving no problmems at all for sound

Reliability : 10
I havnt had any problems yet, except when i had it on one of those gay amp stands that dont work for shit and it came close to falling a couple times ...but i ran to the resuce (never seen a fat guy run that fast) but im asuming its veryy dependable

Customer Support : No Opinion
I didnt even read any of the warrenty stuff, or send it in, yeah im a lazy dumb ass, haha

Ive been playin for about 6 years, my other amp is a randall, which sucks..the only good sound i have gotten out of it was with my metalzone.
I love the amps disotion..i really never use the clean tones, except when i play in my colleges jazz band..which i normally dont even use my amp..but it still sounded good for that.

This amp is the 2002 model, i bought it back in July, and it is now October. It comes with quite a few features and cool effects, but its too limited and simplified. The effects are barely editable, and it only has four channels. I was really disapointed to find that there was no effects loop or output, just the headphone jack. When i bought it, i had just assumed that such an advanced, and moderately expensive amp/tube sim. would have those things, and so when i checked it out at home, i discovered there was no loop or output. I enjoy the double speakers (2x12") especially for the ping pong delay which sounds really nice on this amp. Although the effects are not editable, it is still line 6 effects, and those are always nice no matter what. Also, the speakers are aligned separately (staggered) which is nice.

Sound Quality : 8
I use a Fender standard Mexi strat with single pickups on it... the amp's distortion overall really projects any intereference picked up from the guitar, but when i use my boss pedal with it (and a clean no effect channel on the amp) it doesnt pick up as much useless noise. When using my MetalZone Boss pedal with it, i can get some pretty call sounds. This amp is capable of a LOT of bass, which is nice, but sometimes brutal. The treble sometimes can be ear piercing, thats how high it can go. Overall, i think the factory channel settings and amp mods. suck, but if you tweak with it yourself, you can get some pretty gnarly sound, especially when using a Boss Metal zone pedal. (just a tip for any amp when using a pedal) --> dont set the pedal to total metallica full treble and bass but no mid settings because that gets too piercing, and cannot be heard over drums as easily, unless turned up extremely loud, which then calls for extreme feedback. Anyway, the one factory model i like on this amp is the clean channel, which uses the nicely set up chorus, and any clean channel (with effects or not) does not get distorted at high volumes on this amp. Which is REALLY nice.... you know you're not gonna damage the speakers as easily as you would like to.

Reliability : 10
So far, this amp has caused me no problems as far as reliability is concerned. I have never had the need for backup with this amp. The amp has never broken down in any way yet.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal with them yet. But I never registered my amp, and there were like 5 or 6 papers telling me to register so that i can have the warranty or so they can fix my amp easily. But i forgot to register in time (which was an insanely short amout of time... at least in my head) so i can imagine the day my amp breaks, i'm gonna get screwed over and come back to this site and put '1' for this particular section. But as of now, i have no problems with them.

Overall Rating : 8
I've been playing guitar for almost 3 years now, and am in a band (So Random http://www.angelfire.com/punk3/sorandom/ ) in the Littleton, CO area. I enjoy this amp a lot, and it is definetly one of the best 100W combo amps i have played with. I used to use a Crate 2x12" (or 10" maybe) amp which was horrible. 2 channels, and the sound was horrible, the clean was practically distorted, and the effects blew... so this is a major step up from that. I also own a Fender 25w Frontman with reverb, and that thing is only fun for its insane crunchy sound, but it isnt loud enough. Anyway, my point is that this amp is pretty sweet considering its price, size, and simplisticness. And the effects (although not editable) are very sweet... you can't go wrong with Line 6 effects. I would probably buy this amp again if it were stolen, however if i had enough money, i would go with the the next model up (forgot the name), which has editable effects, and more effects. I chose this amp over a Marshall tube amp, forgot which one, somewhere around the 70-100W range... i just dont like the marshall as much for the music i play. However, if i enjoyed metal a lot, and metallica settings, i would've gone with the marshall and used my Boss pedal with that, along with an EQ. My friend has that same setup which sounds sweet for metal... so if you want a good pure metal-head metallica sound, i would go with a marshall over the line 6. But if you're looking for variety, or reliability, go with the Line 6.

It has pretty awesome settings. I usually use the Insane or the clean setting. Unless I'm playing something wierd, then I'll cut on the flange or tremolo.

Sound Quality : 9
I use a Deluxe Fat Strat with Floyd Rose Tremolo, which has proven so far to be an awesome guitar. It suits my style of music, cause I play anything rock, from Creed to Staind to anything... When I cut up the volume really loud on insane, I get a little more feedback than I like, but overall, it's pretty cool. I am also a vocalist, so I hooked a mic up to it to see what it would sound like, and it's actually pretty awesome [until I turn the volume up past 9 o clock, then it usually gives me a really annoying squeaky sound.] So far, the sound has proved to be awesome.

Reliability : 10
I've had this amp for about a year, and I've had no real problems with it. I even moved this thing around a lot when I first got it, and it hasn't affected it at all. I've even left it in hot temperatures and stuff, and the thing stuff runs awesome.

It's a good amp but it doesn't have the nice warm tone that my marshall does... and the clean channel pretty much sucks.... the optional floor pedal is nice but overpriced...

Bought this amp in August 01' for $650. I play mostly blues and light jazz but don't use it on my gigs. I bought it for jam session and when I didn't want to lug my equipment around to obtain effects.

Sound Quality : 8
I use an American Standard Strat and a PRS McCarty. I have 5 different amps - it's not my favorite. I am getting excessive hum on the "Retro" and "Insane" settings.

Reliability : 9
Other than a hum on two settings, I think the amp is reliable. I don't use it much - perhaps I should sell it on ebay?

Customer Support : 7
I called Line-6 repair about the setting hum. They told me it was natural but I think mine is excessive - excessive enough that I don't use the two (out of 6) settings. My warranty is ready to expire and I will know more about how they handle my warranty in the very near future.

Been playing most of my life. If it were stolen, I would hope my insurance would pay me off becasue I would not buy this model again. Live and learn. It is probably perfect for a different type player, just not for me.

Hi. This is just one more user review among a dozen stating that this amp is cute! I play in a rock/blues/jazz band, and it suits to all my needs. Yes, effect loop and output are missing, but hey, nothing someone experienced in electronics coulnd't do... I use this amp for small gigs as well, cause it rocks like hell. I am not so sure if stereo is that useful if the two speakers are next to each other, but it still is a funny thing to have. And as far as the field of usability engineering is concerned, I have to state that this amp is the easiest to use ever!

Sound Quality : 10
I use the spider with a Gibson LP Studio with 2 Humbuckers and a Fender strat with Single Coils. Clean sound is brilliant, and I totally disagree with the statement that it cuts away upper frequencies above 10kHz. The variety is enough, and anyways I love to adjust my sound myself. Compared to other Transistorstuff or effects one has a great influence on that. The distortion is kind of blowin' you away.

Reliability : No Opinion
I guess I can only state that after 2 up to 5 years to go, becuase that is the least bit of time I expect an ampto last without trouble.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Warranty is ok, but I haven't dealt with them yet.

Overall Rating : 10
I am playing electric guitar since 3 years, but I also play many other fretted instruments. I would buy the amp again, becuase of its high usability. There is actually nothing that I hate with the amp, besides that the floorboards seem a little bit overprized to me (but I got my FB4 plus an amp-cover for free in a summer-special). One thing that I love is that the floorboard is connected with a telephone wire. So if it should ever fail it is a simply replaceable standard cable. This is important since I often jump around while playing... And it's a plug and play amp. No more other distortion or whatsoever else pedals...

I only really ever use the insane setting. More variety than I really need, but thats ok. It sounds kind of weird when you switch through the different models really fast, I like that. The headphone jack is lame, doesnt get loud enough.

Sound Quality : 10
I play in a goth/grind band, mostly covers (skinny puppy, nin, etc). This amp totally gets me the shrill harsh tone I need. Alot of people complain about line6 amps sounding cold and sterile, and not like a real tube amp, as if that is a bad thing! Well, if i wanted that wuss-ass "warm" tone I'd be playing a tube amp. The spider has a futuristic distortion all its own. Sounds like guitar amp distortion, but pointy and digital. This is the real sound of modern music.

Reliability : 10
I accidentially destroyed one of the speakers because I got a little carried away while customizing the grill fabric and sliced the cone. It sounds kind of cool though so I left it in. These amps are so good, they sounds great even if they get a little fucked up. Right on line6!

Best amp ive ever owned, period. Instantly got me the harsh, abbrasive tone I struggled so hard to get from my marshalls (had a jcm 800 and a valvestate). and I use fewer pedals now too. I beleive it was made in 2000 I bought it in 2001 and it's great. The amp is quite the chamelon for tones. you can play anything from jazz to metal. it has 4 channels a headphone out,a flange, trem, and chourus. the chours I use it kicks ass, it has this thick shimmering quality about it. the flange I never use. it's too thin and it has no way of controlling the depth just speed. I wish it had a out for an external cabinet. I use this amp in my room and at band practice. WHen i was with the band i had trouble because the other guitar player had a 100 watt Marshall stack and the bass player had his amp on the ground wich means trouble and the drummer, forget it. I had to keep turning up but it was o.k.

I play zeppelin and Rhoads, bright melodic rock. I use 2 guitars, the first is a les paul knock off and it sounds fat and creamy with the spyder. the other is an olp with open coil humbuckers and it sounds punchier with the amp. the distortion goes all the way to the INSANE setting this is excellent for hard rock, think Van HAlen, Rhoads, and zeppelin. the clean sound is great even turned up high.

The Spider 212 was made this year. I found that the tones were absolutely amazing. Everything is right there in front of you and it is quite easy to tailor the overall sound you are looking for. I was impressed by visiting the website and even more impressed with the ease of operation, I barely had to read the manual that came with it.

Sound Quality : 10
The Guitar I'm using is a Warmoth custom designed guitar similar to what a PRS looks like. It has dual humbuckers! It has a Floyd Style Whammy so my music mostly sticks to the heavy side. The wide range of the Spider's tones are very cool. The clean channel is very cool, I have a distortion box as well, and I can get an amazing dirty Eddie Van Halen clean sound.

I just Traded a Marshall in for the Line6 Spider 212, I can put all my faith in it 100%

This is a 2001 year Line 6 Spider 212 Combo amp. I play mostly pop-punk and progressive rock (Rush!), with a little of everything else thrown in. There are 4 channels, expandable to 12 with a floorboard. The Amp models are quite useful and diverse (you'll find yourself playing with them far more than the effects). As much as most people decry solid-state electronics, this baby really shines among them, especially if you don't want to be locked into a limited range of tones. The digital effects are nothing mind-blowing; they sound good and they can be turned up, down, or off. Finally, at 100 watts through 2 12" speakers, it's about as powerful as combo amps come.

The only way you can get more features at a better price is grand theft, so it's a 10.

Sound Quality : 9
I'm using a single-coil 1999 Standard Strat, so it gets some audible hum no matter what. The noise gate helps, though; on bridge/mid or neck/mid, it is quiet as a mouse. On anything with humbuckers, noise is a non-issue. As far as amp models are concerned: The "Twang" setting gets a lot of punch and distinction at high gain levels; "Recto" has a lot of growl and still has good tonal clarity, works well for Rush; "Crunch" is a bit muddy for most of my music, but I like it anyway. If you've ever thought "Gee, I wish I could turn that gain knob a little higher" you probably won't with the "Insane" model. I don't use that one at all; you can actually make it sound distinctive, but it's kind of hard since even the slightest vibration in the strings produces a very loud tone. Admittedly, the clean model isn't super, but I don't use it. Overall, it rocks for small venues, and could take a club quite well. Again, very nice for the price.

Reliability : 6
The first model I got looked like it had been on the floor for a good while, I thought it was OK after a brief demo... then I discovered the input jack was broken. Apparently the spring or whichever mechanism keeps the conductive parts together was broken (i suspect after some moron fell on it with a cord in). Picked up a new one the following day; it has worked fine since. Seems to have no problem playing very loudly for a long time. I don't anticipate any problems, but I can't give it a terrific rating.

Haven't dealt with the company.

They tout this animal as an aspiring guitarist's "first serious amp," and that's exactly what it is to me - and I love it more than some jerk who had daddy buy him a Marshall stack. Hey, it's not the best amp on earth, but it does the job and works until I'm out of college.

This amp is SO COOL! You guys nailed the Rectifier sound. It actually sounds like a Mesa (and I've played 2 of them now ) Could use a little more control over the chorus and flange though. Been playing Marshalls all my life and this thing has more bottom end than any Marshall the same size. Wicked ! ! !

Sound Quality : 10
I use a B.C.Rich Warlock (arcrylic)with stock passive pick-ups and a Strat style with an EMG-81. As many have said, contrary, I love the clean sound. But what do I know, I'm a hard rock player and rarely ever play clean. I love the insane amp. Can't even describe what it sounds like. Very original and edgy. Love it !

I've been playing for 12-13 years and tried everything under the sun. Can't compare this amp to a full stack cuz it's in a different catagory but I can say that anyone who needs a full on sound assault, this amp WILL deliver. A little word of advice... if you're using the insane amp function, back off on the bass... IT'S WAY TOO MUCH ! That's probably a good thing though.

Six amp models (clean, twang, blues, crunchy, recto, insane), 5 presets, only ONE input, bass/mid/treble settings, onboard flange/chorus/tremolo, onboard delay/tape echo/ping-pong, headphone jack with 'air' technology (makes directly connected recordings sound like a mic'd recording), channel/main volume switches...A nice package for the price, though I have to wonder why Line 6 chose some of the effects they did...Distortion is all onboard - if you can figure out how to adjust the settings you can get pretty much every standard sound you want (I say standard because there aren't any tone modulating effects onboard) - adding the optional foot board also gives you a wah and volume effects, but this is another gripe - you have to pay $250 for the floorpedal, while the effects are built INTO the amp! So the wah and volume effects which I feel are quite neccessary often go unused, but are there nonetheless.

Sound Quality : 8
I play an Epiphone Les Paul Standard with the stock pickups, and I generally play blues, a lot of classic rock, and quite a bit of metal, and of course I have to dip into alternative music every once in awhile (the alternative of yesteryear, like RHCP, the GOOD stuff) and frankly the Spider is great at getting me all the sounds that I need. HOWEVER, as much as I tweak and tweak I'm rarely ever TRULY satisfied. I mean, you can be happy just playing and sounding GOOD, but there's something to be said about sounding TRUE...like, it's impossible to get a good clean sound from the Spider (and from most Line 6 products I hear) - just not sparkly enough, and gets very muddy when you turn the gain up on clean...sorry Line 6, but clean seems to be out of your reach! As you know, a clean tone should be able to take some gain for that extra tone, and the treble should sparkle and the bass distinct but not overbearing...the Spider is horrible at this. Twang is good, but does NOT remind me of a Fender AT ALL...it just sounds good *shrug* As you get more distored the Spider ROCKS, seriously...You can get really down and dirty with this amp, really bring the roof down! It's also very quiet on the noise level (I get almost none) and with its power it proves to be great for gigs. And don't let my review of the clean settings to discourage you, like I said, it sounds GOOD, just not TRUE, but if you really want true you can shell out 2-3 times as much for a real tube amp : )

Reliability : 10
Super reliable - solid state so nothing breaks! Of course, I take really good care of my stuff so hey : ) - But after looking over the amp, I can say with 100% assurance that it is well-built and TOUGH for that matter!

Customer Support : 8
Have not had to contact customer support, so I don't know how they are...But as far as I can tell, the online support is great! You can even ask questions that the Line 6 staff will answer on their webboard. Pretty cool, but really I don't see why you would actually need customer support : )

Overall Rating : 9
I needed a powerful/loud amp that was relatively cheap...I actually wanted a Fender but after looking at the price tags for their 2x12 amps and also checking out the prices on the effects pedals that I would have to buy, I found the Spider to be very attractive...You get all your effects onboard, and the ones you don't get aren't used that much anyway. All in all, I would suggest this amp to anyone getting serious with their music...However, if you've busted onto the music scene, I would not suggest Line 6 because you'll never get a true sound out of the amp - it's digital, of course. If you just want to sound great at gigs and such, then buy a Line 6, save money to mod your guitar and stuff, and keep playing!!

I bought this amp last year in the spring and its awesome. Everyone else already described the features and I have nothing to add except the fact that it cannot be driven through a cab of 4x12 speakers which I'm very pissed about and didn't know until the return policy was over.

Sound Quality : 7
It sounds great with all the options that are on it. Although I have a problem with it now. For somee reason, at random times, it begins to buzz for no apparent reason. My friends tell me its the jack but I really don't know.

Reliability : 7
Its alright...I've had it for a year and it worked great untill now. I gig with it all the time and its all good. There is also another problem with the pedal input. For some reason when I plug my fb4 in, I'm only allowed to access channel C and D and nothing else.

The support provided sucks. I never got a reply to my e-mail refering to the fb4 problem.

I am not sure what year this amp was made in, but I would assume it was made in 2000, maybe 1999. I just purchased it in december this year. The floor board is a necessity if you want to get the most out of this amp. I am not going to list all of the features because so many people already have.

Sound Quality : 8
I am using this amp with a Schecter C1 and the sound is pretty good. It is not unbelievable but it is really good, especially for someones first serious amp. I don't think you could get better sounds or more versatility for any less money. The clean sounds are warm and smooth and the distortion gets as heavy as you would ever need it. The fx sound good although they are not that versatile. For example you cannot have chorus with lots of depth and a slow speed. It's just one knob that adjusts everything in a linear matter. You can still get very useable and good sounds though.

Reliability : 5
My amp worked fine untill I got the floor board, and then it started acting a little weird. Everything was to do with the floor board such as the tuner wouldn't work, or the wah would go on if I pressed a completely unrelated button. When I took in the floor board to see what was wrong they said it was fine and might be my amp. I determined that it was the pedal input jack that was screwed up. Other than that there have been no problems, although that is kind of big......

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have never dealt with them.

Overall Rating : 8
I have been playing for six years and I play in a serious band. Sound is very important to me, and I am very picky. I bought this amp because it sounds good and cost a decent amount. This amp is perfect for anyone who is low on flow and wants good sounds. The only problem I have is the reliability, but I may have a freak problem.

I bought this amp new about a week ago (Jan. 2002). So I haven't spend allot of time with it yet, but it seems to be very versatile. You can get many different sounds/tones out of it. It has 6 built in amp models and 6 different effects, plus reverb. It's rated at 2 X 50 watts and has two 12" speakers. It weights roughly 50lbs. It has no effects loop, but you can channel switch if you buy one of the two Line 6 footswitches. They are both kind of "spendy". One is around $70.00 and the other is $250.00.

Sound Quality : 7
You can get many different sounds, but you need to spend allot of time adjusting to achieve just the right ones. I play mostly hard rock/metal types of music and I'm having a hard time finding the perfect tone. I like the clean sound allot. I like it better than the distorted tones. The distorted tones sound kind of "flat and transistor". I read all of these great reviews on how these Line 6 amps have a tube tone. I guess at this point I don't agree. But.....I might change my mind after I spend more time with the amp. The types of guitars I have been using are: ESP custom Lynch Tiger with Duncan Screamin' Demon PU's, a Jackson USA Custom Shop Strat with Duncan JB humbucker, an early 90's Charvel Fusion Plus with Jackson humbuckers and an old "parts" guitar I have that consists of an American made Kramer Pacer body and an older ESP Lynch neck (maple). So guess most of my guitars are very similar sounding. I enjoy playing in the clean channel with some chorus dialed in, using a neck pickup. Can get a nice Roland RC/120 tone. One thing to watch out for is that the controls are VERY sensitive. The littlest touch can make a huge difference.

Reliability : No Opinion
So far so good. But I've only had the amp a week. But it did survive the shipment from Boston to Minneapolis!!

Customer Support : No Opinion
They have a good website. Haven't had any other experience with their customer support.

Overall Rating : 8
Overall I think the amp is pretty good. Still searching for "my tone". Not sure at this point if I would buy another. Might consider a Mesa Boogie Dual rectifier and a small cab. But I will spend some time with this one and see what i can come up with. I do think that it's a good value. I've played amps that cost allot more than this one that sound pretty bad, at least in my opinion.

I have a gibson LP standard double cut and a yamaha eg303 w/ seymore duncan strat replacement pickups. It sounds great on both, but with the LP it gets very sharp, even cutting down on the treble still gives u a sharp sound.Too much bass and u can feel ur roof rattle,so it takes a while to tweek the sound. On the seymore duncan sounds good as well, but the clean isn't that great, i find the dist better than any of the cleans.Blue is a very nice tone, its lean, not too fat not too light.Insane is incredible,i have never heard an amp that small that can play that sort of dist(btw i have a spider 112).Recto's tone is very good, nice and smooth with a touch of a crunchy tone, but not heavy enuff to play solos..haha(i love to play shred..or at least try to).I still think the sound needs a bit more refinement, but other than tat its a great amp.It doesn't sound that tuby(tube amp),sounds a bit more like a valv state/solid state,so it doesn't exactly have that tube feel to it.Oh don't worry a good old tube screamer should do the trick..hehehe.

This amp has several different types of tones and presets that range from OK to great in sound quality. I really wish the amp came with an effects loop aswell as a line out but. I mainly use this amp at home but it worked well in the studio. The 100 watts were plenty to the "volume crunch."

I'm not sure of the date of manufacture, but I play in a classic rock cover band and we play everything from Aerosmith to ZZtop with a little Metallica in between and I have to say this thing sounds SWEET!! I programmed the first 4 channels for classic sounds and 4 more for Metallica stuff and I still have 4 channels left.. The only feature I wish it had is the XLR direct out(ala the flextone)because using the headphone/direct out, mutes the speakers and onstage, this sucks 'cause without ample monitors, it's very hard to hear yourself.Other than that, this thing gets EXTREMELY LOUD!! And I found the only way to dial in the sounds and levels is to wind 'er up and have at it... But watch your ears!

Sound Quality : 10
I play a Les Paul and a Schecter Tribal Devil, both w/humbuckers and they both sound incredible.I havent found a bad tone yet. It is a very quiet amp. Very little noise, even on the Insane model I get just a small amount of gain hiss(noise gate takes it right away). With 12 storage settings(floorboard is a must)plus the original 6 models, you can basically get 18 different sounds. The clean model is friggin' amazing.Even at high volumes it retains clarity(thank you!!)The recto and insane models are very brutal,I had NO PROBLEM getting the classic James Hetfield/Master of Puppetts tone.

Reliability : 9
This thing is built like a tank, but, I nmake it a habit to never go do a show without a back-up(amp or guitar)because that always seems to be when something will happen.(about 2 minutes before show time).
I have never had a problem so far,but I'm just very anal about my gear anyway..

Customer Support : 8
The company seems very eager to help, even with the smallest of questions. The only bad thing I've found is if I need to ever have my Spider serviced, the nearest service center is about a 4.5 hour drive away.Either that or I box 'er up and send it to the company..I can't remember how long the warranty is for, but I'm sure it's at least up to current industry standards.

If this amp were lost or stolen. I would most certainly replace it. I looked at all modeling amps on the market and I decided to go with the innovater ( he who does it first ,does it best). Like I said, only thing I wish it had is the XLR/ direct out so I didn't have to mic it onstage..

As versatile as modern amps come these days. I tried one at Mars Music Center, looking for a new combo to set atop my 4x12 cab. The sales guy suggested these "smokin'" amps.

Sound Quality : 1
There's a guy a few reviews below mine who stated that the sounds of this amp were "crap". I strongly disagree with that guy. Rather, I think these amps are complete and total worthless SHIT! They sound like a turd under a blanket. There's no bite, no growl, no kick, maybe some punch, but generally, they sound like a hi-fi stereo with all the 10k cut out. Infact, you go put an EQ on your stereo system, cut all the 10k out of it, and you'll have the sound of this amp. What this amp needs to sound REALLY good, is a new set of speakers, a new cabinet, a new processor, different paint, and most of all- a whole new amplifier. People who use this amp, and/or that stupid freakin' POD, are clearly wankers. So, if you think these "plastic" amps sound really good, then "wank on"!!!

It's not like I hate "amp modeling", I use a Boss GT-3 exclusively for my main live sounds. But, these amps, (and I think I can include that Johnson crap too, since it sounds the same to me), sound like a box of electronically muffled vat of syrup covered powdered sugar, and then solidified with 5 oversized pillows. No attack, no dynamics, no interaction with the player, just straight bogus marketing hypety-bullshit, see. Also, I'd like to state that these days, Marshall sucks too, but on the opposite end of the spectrum. Therefore, here's the only good amplifier made today... actually, the only amps that are any good are the ones made before they did away with output tubes.

However, when I took it apart to fix it, I managed to fry a channel. It was due to the transistor outputs being too close together. Seems insulation on the leads between the IC and the pcb would be a good move here, to be safe. It did keep working even after I fried one channel, just hooked the speakers in series on the one output, couldnt tell a difference!

I calll tech support to see about getting new output ICs, it took a couple days for them to call. I dont like that. I want to pick up the phone and talk to a real person, not leave a dang message...

I plugged in with a very good axe (PRS 10 top McCarty).
In essence, lots of fx features but like the Yugo....horrible.

When I demoed this amp, I had my wife turn the rotary dial for some ef and various processed sounds. She came upon a sound that was the best.......it was bypass.
If you think this sterile amp has any tone, then you must be one of those kids who go to Sam Ash; do those egg beater hammer-ons and think you're the greatest invention since fire.
This is a White Castle burger. Tasteless and cheap sounding.
The tone stops here. There isn't any.
Ugh.......come on kids, play with your heart; soul and dexterity, not with this horrid appliance.

But hey, some people love this crap.

Sterile and toneless.
Nothing here in the realm of warm classic tone.
Great for those who need tons of fx as a crutch.
If you like the Dano Fab Tone and dislike single channel simple tube amps, you'll probably love the Spider 212.
I heard some kid do some spiral like flanging fx with his egg beater hammer-ons with the Spider. He was looking around to see if he was impressing the store. He cleared the store out faster than a high school fire drill.
Again, my favorite setting is bypass.

This amp is new for 2001. It has 6 amp models: clean, twang, blues, crunch, recto, and insane; and the great thing about it is that your not limited to just those, it has 4 channels where you can customize your sounds. The two speakers w/ 100 watts is more than enough for most gigs.

Sound Quality : 8
It sounds grrrrreat with the Ibanez Joe Satriani model. I play a lot of heavy music w/ some solos and improvising added in and this amp is great for it. I use clean and twang for melodic stuff and recto for heavy stuff. Insane is really overdoing the overdrive and sounds too fuzzy, and the blues and crunch models are good but not useful for what I play. And of course, it doesn't have the same rich sound that comes from a tube amp like the Fender Vibro-King or any of the roaring Mesa/Boogie amps. But for what your paying, it's a good value.

Reliability : 10
I haven't had any problems with yet, and according to my friend, it's 10x more reliable than the Line 6 AX2 amp.

Tons of features. Very versatile, configurable, and more buttons and lights than the deck of the Star Trek crew could hope for.

I have giged several times now on one of these. I use a Fender Roadhouse Strat with Kinman pickups. I have tried using a Digitech 2120 into this as well as using the amp models and effects inherent in the Line6. I really doesn't matter how you slice it. It is thin. Thin and digital.

I know many guitarist both in forums and personal friends that swear by this amplifier, I don't see how they can have such a good opinion of it.

There is little or no natural compression and warmth as you would normally find with a good tube amp. The headphone sound is great, but live ..... it is pretty sad.

Last night I played through one of my friends units last night. This is the last time I will play live with a Line6.

There is a huge varitey of sounds that the amp can make; however, they all wash out at stage volumes. I was tempted to purchase one of these babies at one time. I am glad I resisted.

Reliability : No Opinion
It is 100% digital. I have never heard of anyone having any problems with it, nor have I ever had problems.

I have been playing for nearly 30 years. I have owned Les Pauls and Strats exclusively, and currently own a Fender HRD. I have played Marshals, Boogies, and so many other amps it would be a waste of time to print them all here.

I really didn't care for the tone on stage, but it may be acceptible for recording levels or perhaps in a small church band. For real live performances, you need a tube amp. It is just rediculous for salesmen to tell people that this amp can sound like a Marshal or a Fender. I would really like to see those people play a good tube amp and the Line6 side by side and see if they could say that with a straight face.

Enough of the bashing. What the amp does well is produce a wealth of sounds at a reasonable price. It has sufficient volume for nearly any gig you may want to do. It is certianly better than the digital amps of yesturday. Things are getting better. I can see a day when digital can indeed sound as good as tube........ but not today. The thing is that most people in the audience can't really tell the difference between good tone and rotten tone. If you are just getting into guitars and live performance, it really isn't a bad little rig. At the price you pay for it, you would be hard pressed to get a decent tube amp AND equivelent effects. The fact is that even a low end tube amp ALONE will run you the price of a Line6.

If you are a seasoned player and want good tone, this isn't it. If you are new and looking to get into a variety of sounds cheep, it may just be the ticket for you.

This amp is very new, made in 2000. This amp is very versatile for the styles that I play, rock, prog/rock, straight metal, and a little bit of funk. It has four programmable channels for the FB4 but I think that is has 12 with the big Floorboard because it has like 3 banks. It doesn't have an effects loop but it does have a headphone jack. I wish that it had an line out and an external speaker jack, but I am not complaining. I will be using the effets a lot, chorus, flanger, tremolo, and the delay effects. The 100watts is more than enough, I don't need anymore. It is a digital amp, which some people can't stand, but I love the sounds that is cranks out.

Sound Quality : 10
I use the powersound pickups on my Ibanez RG 320. It sounds great, I play prog/rock and I use the Insane distortion for my main sound, but the Recto sound for lighter, rock distortions. The sound gate does lessen the noise on the Insane sound, but there is a little humming, but nothing at all major. The clean sounds crystal clear with the chorus and ping pong delay(which alternates between the two speakers) The lighter tones such as the Fenders and the Marshalls are great for a lighter rock sound, you can definately get a variety of sounds from those models. The Recto has a great tone but if you really want a hard ass Mesa/Boogie bone-crunching sound, go with the Insane. The clean channel does not get distorted at high volumes at all and the distortion definately stays crisp. The insane distortion can compete with any heavy distortion, its probably the best I've played yet.

Reliability : 10
So far, its been great. Its pretty heavy duty, but I still treat it like a baby.

If it were sadly stolen, I'd have to save up for another one. I love its perfect sounds and its power. I would compare this to a Crate DX, a Johnson, and a Yamaha digital modeling amp and this one blows them away, well Line 6 is your best bet, if you want a lot more sounds, get a Flextone, but this one has everything I need.

Everything about this amp is awesome. it's loud, sounds clean at the highest volume levels, and it is impossibly easy to save your presets. I have used this amp in the studio and live, and it sounds wonderful.

My only complaint is it's actually too bassy, i usually set the bass
control on any amp between 7-9.on the spider212,i have it set differently for each preset, but usually between5-7.

Sound Quality : 10
I use a 50's reissue tele, a bad horsie wah, and a danelectro octave. everything comes through loud and clear,no tone drop off due to effects, 'cause all the effects are onboard. i use the fb4, but will be getting the floorboard soon. iuse the twang(fender deluxe) setting and the recto(boogie-ish)setting. they give me those SRV-cleans and those Santana leads. Very very nice.

The Spider 212 is a 100 watt combo amp with 6 amp models and 7 digital effects. It's a very versitile amp, allowing you to achieve numerous tones for whatever music you play. It has four chanels with saved presets that are easily customized. However, without one of the footswitches that Line 6 makes, using the presets are difficult if you need to change channels during a song. I own the FB4 footswitch, which does make things easier, however, when you change channels, the sound is muted for a split second, sounding a litle awkward in the middle of a song. However, the versitility of this amp easily overrides the small problem of channel switching.

Sound Quality : 8
I mostly play hard rock, metal, and some grunge. The Amp models are great for all types of music. It produces very little noise except when using heavy distortion at high volumes, however, the slight buzzing is tolerable for the most part. However, when i use the middle single-coil pickup on my Ibanex RG 170, there is a substantial ampount of noise when i use any distortion. Other than this, there is very little nose created by the amp. The clean setting sound great, howver, there is a little noise when the volume is turned all the way up, but it is barely noticeable. The distortion is great for achieving a wide variety of tones. Howver, I often practice in my bedroom, and I have tennants living below me, and I'm forced to practice at low volumes. When the volume is turned low, there is a certain point on the volume knob where, once u pass this point, a lot of the tone is lost. It feels like i have to sacrifice tone to be able to practice with this amp at home. However, once turned up, it sounds great. Also, the Line out is great, there is virtualy no difference in sound between the amp, and the line out, making it great for recording.

I think the Line 6 Spider, especially the 212 (100 watt stereo) is a great choice for a first serious amp. If it were ever stolen, I'd definatly want to buy another one. Its a great, versitile amp, howver, i do with is came with the FB4 floowswitch, because without it, the four channels can't be switched during a song. Other than that, it is a great amp, and i would definatly recomend it.

well I played this amp with my les paul and my lone star stat. I found it to be very DIGITAL. it sounded pretty much the same with the les paul and the strat. that was my first tip off. any guitar player with half a brain knows that les pauls and strats are like night and day. it would be good for metal I think, but if you want any other sound get a real amp like a Mesa Boogie, Marshall, or Soldano. It just sounds too fake. almost like the difference between a grand piano verses a keyboard. I used it as just a practice amp. I have a Mesa boogie stack as my primary amp. I guess I should have stuck with Mesa for the practice amp too.

I play lots of different styles of music, everything from Guns -N- Roses to Incubus to AC/DC to Blink 182 to Bush to Deftones to Eric Clapton to Green Day to Hendrix to Linkin Park to Metallica to Nirvana to Offspring to Orgy to Papa Roach to Spineshank. This Spider 2x12 stereo amp (100watt) pretty much covers all those artists and genres. The only artist I listed above that this amp doesn't quite cover would be Hendrix. It can get the tones necassary to play songs such as Purple Haze but can't get the sound of Voodoo Chile (Slight Return) or any of the like. The amp models are there to get the Voodoo Chile sound but the wah effect isn't a feature on this amp. This amp has 4 programable channels that come in very handy. It doesn't come with a floorboard type switching system (it's an extra peripheral)to switch from one channel to another while playing which sucks. This amp comes with 6 effects...Tremelo, delay, flanger, ping pong, chorus, and tape echo. It also comes with 6 differnt amp models... Insane, Clean, Crunch, Twang, Blues, and Recto. Then the amp also has a button that lets you set the speed of your delayed effects. I just use this to set the delay time really long and then use it as a short loop system. I just use this amp in my room at the moment but I am planning on playing in a talent contest at our school soon. I hope it will have enough power for the talent show but I can't say for sure as of now.

Sound Quality : 10
I use a Fender Standard Strat (3 single coil pickups). The sounds cover all the music styles I play. This amp is very quiet on all settings except the insane amp model (which is a good thing cuz that's what a true hard rock amp should do (in my opinion)) The amp can make all sorts of great sounds. Like I've already said, it covers everything from crystal clean sounds to the heavy fat sounds played in modern rock. I haven't ever turned my amp up to full volume (since it's in my room and the mother really pumps) but I'd imagine that if I had it on the clean amp model it would stay clean up into the high volumes.

Reliability : 10
Very reliable.

As i walked up to this amp in guitar center, i didnt think it was going to be much. Ive heard stories of people who dont like there line
6 gear, or dont think it sounds real. so i had little expectations for this combo. I brought a musicman axis up to the amp to play it with....turned it to the insane setting and waled away.....it is the most amazing sound ive ever gotten out of an amp. I dont get why people are such tube purist. look back in the 70's when computers used to be the size of a building...now they are the size of a pocket and do more. This is the answer to anybody who wants a tube amp....dont get one....get a line 6. Add the floorboard and get more presets. about 250 more than your current amp. as for the comparison between a tube amp and the spyder..... look no more...spyder is better..and less expensive! get one as soon as possible.

All digital modeling amplifier, 2-12" Line 6 speakers, 100 watts. Manufacture year is 2000 and in the short period of time I have used this amp it has become an exceptional value. The amp has proven to be extremely versitile. With six different amp models, modeled after various fender, marshall and mesa boogie amps, and four user presets it is a huge step up from the typical 2 channel amp configuration. Built in effects are incredibly useful, even the effects I never really thought I'd use (Flanger, Chorus, Tremelo, Delay, Tape Echo, Ping Pong, Reverb). Headphone jack is designed to double as a stereo line output for direct recording. Four additional features are accessable via a hold button/turn knob type of thing (Volume boost, overdrive boost-which acts as a stomp box so the guitar signal is hotter before it even gets to the preamp, presence boost and a noise gate which doesn't cut off a weak signal like a typical stomp box gate). Amp is currently being used in our band rehearsal hall. Enough power to cut through drums and vocals. The lack a foot switch, which is available seperatly, makes for a real bite since a pedal is really need if any channel switching is going to occur.

Sound Quality : 10
Guitar configuration is a Standard Fender Telecaster equipped with a DiMarzio Fast Track-T Humbuker in the bridge position and standard fender tele neck pickup. An acoustic/electric Alvarez and an acoustic/electric jumbo body Epiphone. Music styling vary from folk rock, pop rock, hard rock, punk, classic rock etc... I've programmed all four channels already and have come up with an amazingly crystal clean channel, a bitey clean channel, a dry 70's cruch distortion, and a full blown mesa style distortion. The first thing that blew me away was how amazingly quite this amp is. The noise from the amp is nearly unnoticable. You actuallly have to be in a completly quite room and try to listen for any noise. Really, its that quite; even on the max volume with the guitar volume turned up. The insaine amp model is the only channel that has some noise in it. But its really not that loud compared to other amps, it only appears loud next to the other amp models in the spider. I was also immpressed with how sweet the acoustic tones were. This is an amp that will give a trace elliot a run for its money. And of course the elcetric tones are very clean crisp and thick with disortion. The fullness of sound for the 2-12" speakers is a thing to be heard. Never have only 2 speakers sounded so big. The amp stays true to its tone as the volume gets higher. The warmth of the tube amps being replicated is a very strong characteristic of this amp. The tones are really a thing of beauty, this is definatley an amp that any pro or serious guitarist should seriously look at if making an amp purchase.

Reliability : No Opinion
I've only had a for a short period of time but haven't had any problems. I don't for see and future problems. Amp is built well and will be used as my main stage, studio and rehearsal amp.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I haven't dealt with C.S. yet. Hopefully I never will. Warranty period is 1 year.

I've been playing for 6 years now and this amp is truely a work of art. I would seriously want to purchase this amp again if the chance should arise. My only other favorites that I've played has been a mesa boogie dual rectifier half stack which has been the "sickest" amp I've ever played. But the versatility of tones, effects, and portability keep the spider at high priority. With all the things the Spider has to offer, it's just really hard to pass it up. Once again the only negative facet which is still a bite, is the lack of a footswitch.

Features are great. It has 6 general sound settings; clean, twang, blues, crunch, recto, insane. There are 6 effects; flange, chorus, tremelo, delay, tape echo, ping pong; all with intensity control. Reverb included. "Tap" button for delay, tape echo, and ping pong was difficult to understand at first, since the amp came with no documentation. 60 possible feature combinations. I rarely use the effects, but it's nice to know they're there. All digital amp, stereo, 2x12, 100W.

Sound Quality : 10
I play a Ibanez RG520 with stock humbuckers and it sounds awesome. I play mostly Metallica, both clean and distortion. The amp is only noisy at the "insane" setting or when you sit right next to the amp. It can cover all sounds from a very nice clean to a distortion heavy "insane". Sound not distored at higher volumes. The amp is almost too bassy, but it holds true to high end sounds. The distortion is crazy on the "insane" level, so I recommend the slightly calmer "recto" setting. The amp is very quiet if you aren't playing guitar, and it could surprise you if you accidentally hit your guitar strings if the amp is on.

Ok, it sounds pretty good. It sounds tighter with 2X12 speakers than 2X10 which sounds warm.
But I don't know why Line 6 didn't stop at Spider 1x12, 2X10 and made this one...
I gotta tell you I've played thru a Spider for a month then exchanged with something else.
Spiders are pretty cool, they have decent sounds and features. But they are just perfect for practicing or jaming w/o a drummer but u can't depend on it when giging.
My point is why get spider2X12 at $600-650 when u can get a Flexton or better yet Flexton XL/Duo/II with a little more money.
Flexton has much better sound and more useful effects and amp models and you'd be much happier w/ Flextone.
But if you don't need that many amp models or effects and not giging, well, stick with a Spider.
But just try Flextones before u buy a Spider, then make your decision.

This amp is the new 2000 version. The amp has same six models as lower wattage version (clean, twang, blues, crunch, recto and insane). Footswitch is still not supplied, so consider floorboard a necessity if you intend to gig.
Basic FX are present (chorus, flange, tremolo and 3 delays; pingpong analogue and digital with tap function for setting time. This tap business is a little to "rough" for me, and I'd rather be able to set the time in mSecs, and ideally the amount of repeats, which you cannot do. The amp kicks out 100watts, thru 2 12" speakers, and is LOUD!!...seemingly a great improvement on the old 50 watters.

Sound Quality : 10
I use a Fender Strat Deluxe and Epi Les Paul, to play "classic" rock covers 70's thru 90's.
I compared this amp in the shop with a S/H 5150 stack, and Marshall DSL 60 valve with 4X12 cab. I walked out the shop with the Spider for several reasons.. Firstly it can knock out very sweet crunchy distortions (via the Marshall Plexi model) that competed very favorably with the real deal in the store. Why would I want to lug around a stack when this will do the job great, and fit in the boot of the car? Of course if you must stand infront of a stack "coz it looks right", go ahead. If more brutal distortions are required, dial up the "Recto" model, and you have a Boogie triple rectified monster, and believe me, the low end punch is all there...you can feel the air moving! Cleans are very clean and glassy, and with some chorus or flange, nice and spacey for those more ballady moments.
I can't say I'd find too much use for the "Insane" model, as it is firstly quite noisy, and would't suit the kind of music I play.
In common with other spider users, I would like a little more control over the FX, particularly the delays, which are a bit hit and miss, and you can't select the feedback levels.

Reliability : No Opinion
Can't comment on this as I haven't had it long enough, but I would say that the amp is very solidly constructed, and with no tubes to care for being all digital, I'd be suprised if too many problems ensue.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Comes with 1 yr Warranty.
Can't say about service, but the web site is very impressive, with tech support available be e-mail.

I've been playing for around 15 years, and this amp is the answer to your prayers, if you want versatility, portability and great sounds.
If I lost it I would definately buy Line 6 again, although I might go for the flextone for a few more features...then again who REALLY needs all those models when all the major tones are in the spider?
I do wish that this amp had the tone transfer facility via the web that the pod/flextones have so that users could share the tones easily.
Overall I'm well pleased and even though I paid an extra #199 for the floorboard, I still came of better than buying a head and cab you'd probably need to get these kind of tones.

This amp has plenty features.. The think thats great about it is that they all sound good and you can tweek on em till you get that sound you realy want. I realy like the distortions, they have Insane and Crunch. Insane can get a little noisy but thats because its hard distorion for heavy metal.

Sound Quality : 10
I play a ibanez with H-S-S and when i play metallica it kicks ass. Its dead quiet unless you put it on insane and then you can kinda hear a little noise.. but what do you expect from a setting called Insane? Every thing on it is hella good. It sounds good even on high volumes. It sounds real good on distortion especialy for metallica and other hard bands.

Reliability : 10
This amp would never brake unless you drop it alot and kick it over alot.

Customer Support : 10
never had any problems and never will because they make the quality so well you dont even need customer support.

Overall Rating : 10
The over all rating i give is a 10 because this amp is the best for your money..

My guitar is a tanglewood europa with a dead nice maple neck. the pickups aren't great at all, but it makes no difference at all one this amp. it makes shoddy guitars sound great as long as you dont use single coils, which sound crap however you use them. Ive got to jump right in and say that the hi-gain on this thing is amazing. Ive only been playing for 3 1/2 years, but ive been gigging for a long time, and have heard a lot of tones, and none of them come close to the 'recto'setting; It's punchy, tight and cohesive and very expressive, something i was real suprised with, given the digital nature of the amp. Harmonics are easy to come by, and the tone controls are very usable and effective, scooped metal tones are easy to come by.. I suppose it may sound a little processed, but i cant say it matters at all to me. Easily the best distortion ive ever heard, and i used to own a DSL 100. I was, however, a little bit dissapointed with the supposed ultra high gain 'insane' channel. For a start it is really quiet compared to the other channels, and there is nasts feedback/scratch/howl when you try to do short palm muted phrases. however the cleans are absolutely pristine; adding the chorus and reverb to the basic clean channel yields a beautiful, spacious and sumptuous sound, amazing. So a ten then? well, no. All the best sounds i described only happen at low volume, and this is the biggest problem with the amp. It's not amazingly loud, and their is no socket for an external speaker. I found it just about loud enough for small room rehersal with a band, but for gigs, forget it, unless you can mike it to a good PA and youve got monitors, which most student bands like mine do not; it just doent have the balls. Once the volume goes past 12 o clock, the sounds often sound very different to the ones you programmed in your bedroom. They turn kind of average, if this was a 100 watter it would be all you'd ever need. Another problem. Although the sounds are easy to achieve and save when youre at home and have time, changing them on the fly at a gig is horrible. You have to make the changes you want (EQ/Gain etc) then hold down the channel button for about 5 seconds in order to save it. This is a living hell, as if you change cahnnel before you've saved, you lose any changes you made.grrrrr. So to sum it up this amp is great great great for recording, with very pro tones on offer very easily, but it just doesnt cut it at gigs. A real shame. I guess the flextones are better for this though. 10 at low volumes, but.....

this really does hold some fantastic tones, but its a little expensive if you include the footswithch rippoff (the motherboard footswitch would i assume enhance things greatly, but 250 quid?!! for that you could buy a gfx8 or rp2000 and a marshall vs100r and have a better live setup and a pretty good recording one) there is no way i can use it for gigs, still, im glad i bought it, its great for home practise. recording and small rehersal, and it looks damned cool. If it was stolen i'd probably just buy a loud amp and a multifx unit.
