I've played for 8 years had other amps (Marshall, Crate, etc...) and I only play with B.C. Rich and ESP guitars, (the only way to get the metal sound I want and still get super clean tones.) This amp does it all and can still drown out a drum set! For the price it's the best thing you can get.

I believe the amp was manufactured in 2005. I am going to write this review with the amp's purpose in mind. This amp's purpose is not to sound identical to a Marshall tube head or a Mesa Boogie, it is to imitate botique amps as accurately as possible.
I mainly play rock and blues. It has a headphone jack, which is very nice as I use it quite often in my dorm room. I use this amp on stage, and it has enough power, BUT I wouldn't recommend this amp for anything other than practice. I would look for something more specific. If you are looking for a good modeling amp though, this is good at what it does.
It is solid state.

This amp has the capacity to make EXTREMELY heavy distortion. If you are a 15 year old kid who has been playing the guitar for a year or two, you will have an absolute hay-day with this amp! I wish I would have had this when I began playing, I could have had a blast.
Unforunately, I have developed a rather picky ear, and I am not satisfied with any of the sounds this amp offers. However, to the Novice-Intermediate guitarist, this amp has endless possibilities.
This amp, in my opinion, can IMITATE almost any sound out there. Keep in mind the purpose of the amp though, it is not a 100% accurate replication of those sounds, and it really isn't suppose to be either.
For sounds I give it a 10, for 400 bucks brand new. I encourage any beginner to go out and buy this amp. You could probably kill small rodents with this thing.
If there is one compalaint about the sound, it's that it starts to crap out at about volume level 6. You really should not need to go higher than this though, it will cause you hearing damage if you do (no joke).
I'm gonna give it an 8 for some of the harsh sounding, digitally processed solid-state sounds.

Guys, let's face it, this thing will probably not last more than 10 years. It's a computer, and computers are some of the most unreliable things on this planet. I would NOT gig with this amp, with or without a backup, I really don't think that's what this amp is for. I think it's geared more toward practice.
However, in the year or so I've had it, I have had no problems with this amp. I'm going to sell it soon, and I'll cross my fingers that that person doesn't get a total meltdown. Lol
A 9 since it served me well.

The Amp was made in 2004, bought late that year. In terms of overall quality, this amp is very versatile. It canproduce quite a wide range of sounds, and the built in effects are pretty nice. Definitely good for a beginner/intermediate player, and is a great way to experiment with different sound styles with all the amp models and effects.

I have an Epi SG with replaced pickups (57 classic), and when tuned to A and played through the blues channels it sounds awesome. Great for slide too. I also have an Epi LP standard, which sounds fantastic thorugh the clean channels. The effects overall are pretty nice, considering most players will only use a delay and tremolo/phaser/chorus anyway. My main complaint is with the quality of the different amp models - they just aren't that great.
The Clean channels are *very* nice, but most of the rest are worthless. The red Blues is pretty good, and the Green/Red Crunch are decent, but the rest fall apart at high volumes. I bought this amp based of a lot of testing, and it sounded great in the store. But once I got it home a cranked it up loud I simply could good not get a good sound at high volumes.
I would say if you just play rythmn in a band, and want to use the clean or crunch channels, this amp would be great. For Lead, don't bother.

Overall, a fantastic amp for beginners. I bought this after a year of playing and don't regret it, and it has definitely helped me improve my playing. But as I have become a better player, the Amp does not give me the sound and power that I need. For the money you can't beat the quality, but I'd pass on this for more advancded musicians.

Enough features, best of them is a very effective noise suppressor (not great on subtle bluesy settings, quite logically), the tuner is ok but not chromatic, modulation fx is a waste, delay and verb are ok.
No timelag when switching channels, way cool (the behringer products are plainly not suited for live playing in that regard).
Healthy 80w celestion speakers, this amp is powerful but won't cut through the mix given its overall dark and subdued character. To work with is great and generates much less fatigue than say a Marshall, so I think it is best used as a practice amp.
No noise at all, which is remarkable given the huge amount of volume it can produce.
Quite heavy(20kgs) due to the speakers, with neo Jensens you could easily gain 5-6 kgs and some freshness&clarity. As well as spend around 200 euros too, given the price of the spider this is not to consider of course.
Note that the FBV4 gives you only access to tap tempo, a waste for the price it costs. Stick to the FBV2 the amp comes with.

Well, one must be forgiving here, and consider the price helps much.
Please no tone/tube snob, it is sterile anyway no matter what.
I can achieve a quite satisfying sound whatever the style with this amp. With a subtle delay and reverb it is mostly rewarding, and I play way longer with this spider than with my bassman. I am forced to admit that it does have a magic touch after a while so yes it helps much to make music.
Of course if one wants to make noise...be the spider's guest! The younger, nastier musicians'section is targetted by line6 I think.
Those pals of mine are baffled when they discover what sound I have with only a guitar and this amp, and I am no numetalhead.
As I already said, the overall character is dark and subdued so if you want the spider to cut through the mix you have to back off the bass control, and like me use an enhancer pedal in front of it (my boss EH2 makes wonders at clearing the tone).
Not difficult at all, you just can't use the same settings for live and practice. Which is perfectly normal should I say...
As it comes without considering its price it gets a 5, 6with effects.
With an enhancer and considering the overall price, a 10.
Note that I only get compliments about this amp, whatever the age/style of the listener.
That should tell you something, don't let tube snobs fool you. After all, the simple concept of electric guitar was a heresy not so long ago...

It is my second spider2. My first, a 112, went nuts after a year of careful use (the volume raised all by itself, no cure).
I see those amps as two parts, the processor and the amplifier. Line 6 made the amplifier state-of-the-art, very well and absolutely reliable.
Unfortunately, the processor is not that reliable, being software and all.
I think my first spider didn't cope well with a clean booster pedal I used mistakingly on a preset which had the onboard booster already on.
Don't know for sure but it would make sense.
A ten for the amplifier itself, a 5 for the processor

I just like it, and am no newbie or untalented player (20years playing).
I own a fender bassman, and no I won't say one is way better than the other: it depends on what you play and what you like.
Still, it is sort of funny to state that with a seven strings guitar the small, affordable spider2 is ten times better and louder than the bassman!
Both amps have their own general character you can't avoid, the line6 is better for practice because generating less ear fatigue.
The line6 is more convenient to travel with, no tubes and all.
Of course the bassman is a jewel, but it should regarding its price target.
For the price and overall quality, this line6 is very good.

Bought it about a year and a half ago. Loads of features, 12 amp models, effects, delay, reverb, noise gate, tuner... you know. 120watts which is powerfull, but not powerfull enough for playing live (cept for small venues). It has very little control over the effects, and some not so good sounding channels which hurts the score a bit, but overall, great features!

Play an American Fat Strat, and play anything that sounds good to me (which is alot of different styles), but live it's mostly classic rock and hard rock. My favourite amp models are red clean, red blues, and red/green crunch. I don't really like the metal models at all, they sound so-so at low volume but in a band environment they suck. The red blues and green crunch settings are this amps savior, smooth, very tubelike, overall just great tone. The amp however is not loud enough for live without mic, anything past 4 on the knob sounds terrible and even if it doesn't at first after warming up it will. Last couple of shows i've had to mic it because i coulnd't get the volume without the tone falling through, and our PA isn't really great for miking. Also i find that most of the tones do not sit very well in a live mix, they struggle to exist, it's hard to explain because you can't really notice when you're not playing loud with a band, but it sucks. This amp also has some weird dynamics with regards to attack in some cases, but no biggie. Also, none of the channels will take a stomp box or processor, sounds like crap, so there is no expandability available. It is on the other hand very quiet and because it does have some decent sounds it's a decent studio amp.

Good for the money, a great starter amp and decent studio amp, but overall I'd say it doesn't hold up in the long run especially if you plan on playing some shows. While the 212 or the head/cab would probably have enough power for the shows i play the other issues i stated would still apply, and that is simply not acceptable. For the money this thing is great and if I was talking from a purely practice amp perspective i'd give it an 8, but it's deceiving since this amp is rated at 120watts and would seem suitable for live play, but it is not that's why it gets a 6.

Bought new in late 2004
I have used it to play all styles from Beatles to Santana to Hendrix to Foo Fighters and the 210 copes well for all these (with the FBV shortboard)
Amp used at home, rehearsals & gigs - it does it all

Guitars are 1985 MIJ Strat with Seymour Duncans, 90s USA strat with texas specials, Schecter Blackjack (SDs) and Tokai Love Rock (std)
Style is mostly blues and rock with a bit of jazz thrown in and me and the Spider get on fine
Huge variety of sounds but it needs patience (+ FBV) to get them out but well worth the effort though
Distortion goes as hairy arsed as you could possibly ever need! It really does go up to 11.

Been playing for over 20 years, and gigging off & on for most of that time. Also own, Marshall 8040. If Spider was lost or stolen I would probably go down the tube route again (George Dennis/Marshall/Boogie) but saying that the Spider II 210 is fantastic value for money, very giggable and the crowd seem to like what it sounds like so who am I to criticise? Also, I have ditched all my pedals - it's all in the FBV floorboard if you take the time to tease it out.
I've owned many amps over the years i.e. Marshalls, Vox AC30, Boogie, Peavey, Laney and others & this more than holds it own. Okay, if you want more character (tone) go tubes, but for a very giggable, versatile & robust rig you won't go far wrong with one of these puppies!
