This amp was only made between 1955-1959. The speaker code says 17th
week of 1957! It has two 8-inch speakers that are slanted, one volume, one tone,(chicken knobs!)one channel(CLEAN!!)two guitar inputs and a microphone input with independent volume. The tubes are 2x6v6,12ax7 and a 5y3 rectifier. THEY ARE THE ORIGINAL RCA TUBES!!! Approx. 15 watts!

Sound Quality : 10
Here's a 40+ year old amp with ORIGINAL EVERYTHING that I think SMOKES just about every small(15watt)amp made today!(Vox Pathfinder move aside!) GREAT clean vintage tone! Just use your favorite stomp box for distortion!

Reliability : 10
Still works after 40+ years!

This is a 60s tube practice amp, 8" speaker. I use it for Harp practice and it sounds great. It has the old two prong 110 plug, so if it gets static you unplug it and turn the plug and put it back in.

This amp is too small for guitar in my opinion, but sounds perfect for the Little Walter thing with my Green Bullet straight into it. It has the factory speaker that looks like it came out of a car dash. Just volume and tone and thats it.

Reliability : No Opinion
Ive never had the nerve to take it out anywhere, but all the harp heads love its sound.

Im starting to collect old tubes, most of which I get for free.Never had to replace a tube in it but have some if I need to.

For $45 bucks, its already paid for itself, and I would buy it again.

This is an old amp. Probably a pre-'60s model. Uses a 5U4 rectifier, a 6N7 preamps and two 6V6 power tubes. The tubes stick upwards from the chassis which is bolted to the bottom of the cab. All the circuits are point to point wired. The 10 inch speaker is a no-namer. I imagine it could be an old Jensen or EV. The cabinet is 15' square and 10" deep with a leather handle and a cool faux alligator hide vinyl covering. The original "MEC" logo is stamped on a brass plate at the bottom of the front panel, while "Magnatone" is silkscreened onto the top front panel. There are three inputs: two for instruments and one for a high-Z microphone. One volume handels the mic input while the instrument imputs share their own volume control. A single "tone" control rolls off the high end.

I use this amp for practice. It is a bit too old to use for gigs.

Sound Quality : 8
I play a strat with aftermarket pickups through it. It is a nice, mellow sounding amp that sounds similar to an old Fender Champ. It sounds great at low volume, but the speaker flaps when you crank it. The overdrive sounds are okay, but nothing great. For clean jazz and blues it sounds great.

Reliability : No Opinion
For an oldie it has been great. It is rugged and very sturdily built, but I 'd rather just keep it home. The tubes 6N7 and 5U4 tubes are a bit rare and expensive, but I found three distributors online who still stock them. I'm not going to jinx the amp by rating it.

Magnatone is long gone. I don't see any problem in getting this thing serviced though, as it is a Class-A type amp. Just about any tech worth his salt should be able to service it.

Overall Rating : 9
For an amp of its power and size, it smokes just about any cheap practice amp out there in terms of tone. I'd much rather have it than some old crappy solid-state Crate or Peavey at the same price.
This is definitely not a do-it-all amp - but that is what I like about it. It has its own sonic signature: a very warm, freindly, tubey tone that makes me smile.
