2x12 with G12 75-watt 12" speakers. Although it is not as close to ear level as the 4x12, it is MUCH easier to transport, mainly my reason for it's purchase.

Sound Quality : 7
I play a Marshall 2x12 JCM2000 TSL122 with a Fender Strat Plus, Paul Reed Smith Custom 24, and a 52' reissue Tele. The cabinet produces adequate tones, but nothing stellar. I think that it would sound much better with Celestion greenbacks (I have one in my classic 30, and I am planning on installing some of these soon. I play blues, jazz, and some rock, and though this cabinet does well with the heavier styles, it does not reproduce mids and highs with the complexity of say, greenbacks. Good bass, mediocre mids and highs, to reiterate. Sounds too one-deimensional for blues and jazz, though it doesn't really distort clean rones much at any level, and my amp is 120 watts.

Reliability : 10
Never had a problem.

Customer Support : 4
Marshall has gone corporate, which means you talk to a damned computer instead of a human. Not very considerate....

Overall Rating : 7
It is a run-of-the-mill sounding cabinet, maybe slightly better than average, but made well. Very road worthy, as is most Marshall stuff. Wish it had greenbacks, but those will come with rim and $150. Great for heavy stuff, all-right for blues and jazz.

My Marshall 1936 2/12 cab is a plain black tolex covered model, with 2 Celestion Greenback speakers. It is wired for stereo or mono. I play mostly 60's, 70's, and 80's stuff. Van Halen, funk stuff, some blues, etc.... The cab really does meet my needs, because I hate hauling my Marshall 4/12 all over the place, so for practicing, and for most gigs, I can haul my 2/12 and not break my back. I really cant tell much difference between the sound of the 2/12 and the 4/12. The 2/12 is just as thick and has plenty of bottom end, and singing highs. The 2/12 is just more compact and easier to tote around.

Sound Quality : 9
I have 4 guitars, a Les Paul Standard, and 3 modified strats, one WD parts strat, and 2 Warmoth strats, all with Seymour Duncan JB humbuckers and vintage rails, cool rails, and duckbuckers in them. The cab responds great with all the guitars with all the different pickup configurations in them. Very tight, great bottom end, and great highs.

Reliability : 10
Marshall makes great cabinets. I would absolutly gig with it, and would not worry about it. If I need a backup, I guess I would lug my 4/12 around (as heavy as it is).The cab has been real solid, and has performed without a flaw.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have never dealt with Marshall.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for about 15 years now, and I have owned alot of gear over those years. I also have a 4 piece rack system, and a Marshall Plexi JTM 45 head. If my 1936 cab was stolen, I would defenitly get another one.

I've owned a couple of these. My current one is about 2 years old. It has 2X75 watt Celestions which you all know about - quite full, quite bright and brash. I changed them for a couple of old Celestion 20 watters and it sounds fantastic now. The other thing i did was cut the backboard to 'open back' it like a Fender twin. That really opens up the sound if you are into that tone - I would definitely do it again. If you are careful, you cancut the vinyl in such a way that it still looks right - it will peel back off the wood whilst you cut it - then cut the vinyl longer and stick it back on. It is worth noting that, generally, the older the 1936, the better. Early ones are thick ply, later ones have more and more particle board. This current one is all particle board

Sound Quality : 8
I'm using 50 watt Marshall heads - an old lead and bass 50 - get one if you can, the're GREAT. This cabinet is just FULL sounding. As someone has already said it is because they are more than half the size of a 4X12, they really breathe. They are a much better all round bet than carrying round a 4X12. I can understand why people change to vintage 30's or Greenbacks.

Reliability : 10
What can you say. As long as you stay wihtin the power rating, not much can go wrong. I've seen many very old and battered 1936's and they all work!

Customer Support : 10
Marshall are great in the UK

Overall Rating : 9
I've owned almost everything through the years. If you won a quality amp head, this is just a great full sounding cab to work with it.

limited issue- 2x12 cabinet loaded with celestion vintage 30's.

brand new for 06/2000.

i run a Marshall DSL50 through it.

the vintage 30's sound great. i checked it against the standard 1936 cabinet. this one sounded MUCH better. not as gritty and bright.
i play rock, country, jazz with it. it doesnt color my tone- just nice, warm, woody tone.

Sound Quality : 10
i play a strat, les paul, and guild bluesbird through it mostly. the cabinet sounds exactly like i would want it to if i built it myself.
it projects nicely- although not spike-y. the sound seems to be 'broadcasted' rather than 'beamy' or directional. i really dig that.

a couple reasons this cabinet sounds good are:
1) the cabinet is 2 thirds as tall as the standard 4x12 which means there is more cabinet volume per speaker than the 4x12. generally, bigger is better.
2) the speakers are set in the cabinet up higher off of the floor than the standard 4x12. this helps with the projection and keeps the bass from being too boomy.
3)the size makes it so much more manageable than a bigger cabinet. i can pick it up and load it in the truck without hurting my 'man parts'.

Reliability : 7
since there isnt a section titled 'workmanship' this is where i have to complain about the workmanship.

the screws that hold the back on were put in VERY sloppy. a couple were actually attached in the crack BETWEEN the back and the cabinet. so the washer is the only thing actually holding the back at that point.
for a $450 cabinet - that's unacceptable and displays second rate workmanship and quality control. if i hadnt mail-ordered it i would take it back to the dealer for an exchange.

everything else is pretty much top notch.

it seems to be solidly built other than the sloppy workmanship on the back.

i have a couple other marshalls that i havent had any problems with- other than changing the tubes and one fuse. usual stuff.

Customer Support : No Opinion
never had to deal with them. i have promptly received responses to e-mails. maybe thats an indication of the support.

Overall Rating : 8
my overall rating would be an 8.

10 on the design, sound and portability of the cabinet.
7 on the sloppy workmanship. there isnt that much work in putting one of these together. so you should expect what little work there is to be flawless.

I got the cab about 3 weeks ago. I have a DSL50 head and use a RG520 and a 1979 model paul. The first day my band practiced (the first time i turned the amp up to 7)I noticed that the handles on the cab were vibrating and causing a very annoying sound. So I took the handles off and cut out some card board to fit betwen the handles and the cab and the vibrating stopped. I cant belive they used plastic handles. After I fixed that the cab sounded great. Well worth the 280bucks I payed for it new. The little thing in the lower left hand corner that says JCM9001936 also makes a little rattle. Great low end but a little to much treble. Might switch to vintage30's when i get the money. they give a deeper sound.

All I have to say is TRY AS MANY OF THESE OUT AS YOU CAN!!!! I tried out 5. 2 sounded great, 1 was OK ,and 2 were just horrible.

Find a good one and buy it before someone else does...trust me on this. If you get a good one, you will be in sonic bliss for many, many years to come.

I love this thing for is portability over a 4x12, and yes...you can still put casters on it......woo hoo!!

Fills a bar with sound just as well as a 4X12....

Reliability : 4
The cabinet was mis-wired from the factory.... only one speaker was working....store I bought it form fixed it in 5 minutes but what about Marshalls Quality Control Checks at the factory?????? No problems at all since.

2-12 inch 75 watt Celestion speakers. Mono and stereo inputs.

Sound Quality : 1
This speaker cabinet sounds extremely dull and lifeless, probably due to the particle board construction. I even tried replacing the 75 watt speakers with 25watt Greenbacks, but that didn't help. This cabinet just doesn't have any oomph.

Reliability : 8
It was reliable until I sold it.

Customer Support : 9
Marshall has great customer support. I've dealt with them many times.

Overall Rating : 2
I thought a smaller cabinet would be nice but was wrong. Have gone back to using my V-30 loaded 4-12's

This 1936 is about one years old. I traded a Marshall 4x12 cab for it. I'm a mailman so the last thing I want to do is haul around a 4x12 100 pound cab around! The 1936 is 60 pounds with 2 12's. Mine came with celestion 25 greenbacks. This cab will put out.

Sound Quality : 10
The sounds are really nice. I use a Marshall JCM 900 head and a Marshall G100 RCD as a backup. The closed back really gives the cab a nice bass response while the highs are there. I traded my Eq pedal when I got this cab. I play a Gibson Les Paul Standard. The humbuckers really feed the cab.

Reliability : 10
Marshall is dependable

Dealt with company a few times. Don't get confused. Korg/Marshall/whatever else!

Overall Rating : 10
I like this cab so much I'm getting a second cab to put on top or side by side. One cab will have greenback 25's while other will have stock celestion 75's. Should be a interesting setup. I will use my JCM head which is 50 watts and crank it up. My advise is get one. You get a 4x12 sound in half the weight.

I've owned this cabinet for a couple years. I bought it to go with my
100 watt JCM 800 Lead Series head (EL-34) It has 2x12" celestion 75 watt speakers (8 Ohm Mono or 16 Ohm Stereo) My full sized head fits
perfectly on top. It serves it's purposes very well.

Sound Quality : 10
My cab sounds good at any level. It has a good tight bottom and doesn't compromise the highs either. I play rock/metal/roadhouse through this setup and a/b a blackface twin for clean/blues/jazz/funk/surf. It doesn't distort too early which is good for me. I like power tube distortion better than speaker distortion. 4x12" sound in a 2x12" space... It sounds the way I want it to...

Reliability : 10
I gig without a backup... but I do have the twin to carry me through an emergency, but the twins speakers can't make the sound the Marshall cab was designed for.
I've used Marshall equipment since the late 60's and have developed a certin amount of trust in their products. I'm confident in the reliability of this cab as long as it's taken care of...

Customer Support : 10
Marshall has been helpful to me over the years and have never let me down. They answer all my questions... now... one of the music stores who handle Marshall hasn't been so helpful... but not Marshall fault.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing since the Beatles made their first album. I would replace it because it fits my needs. I don't need 4x12" cabs. Sound men try to keep stage levels down. I have tried Mesa Boogie, Marshall 1922, Fender(JBL)and have to be honest... I like them all pretty equally but the Marshall was just a bit darker sounding(what I was looking for) and fit under my Marshall head perfectly... stage presence, you know...
I bought the cab for what it was designed for and it has paid for itself a few times. If you want Marshall sound, buy Marshall...
