1977 Marshall MKII Superlead 100 Watt head in near mint condition. 100 % original. Four FIlter Cpas replaced with LCR before i got it. 2 remaining filter caps are the dark blue Daly caps. One fullsize and one half size. The Dark Blue Dalys if they still are in good order should be left in the amp. On the other side ofthe coin filter caps after 25+ years DO dry out! Whther or not they look well on the outside i.e no bulging or leaking. Its a judgement call. If your caps do end up leaking all over your baord your gonna be upset. Many people do leave them as long as the Marshall still sounbds good. 2 channels . High Treble and Normal Treble. Has the .22 Green chiclets and the rest are Mustards which came original in the amp. One replaced resistor.

I have been playing Master Volume 1981 and 1982 JCM800 2203s and owned 1 2204 over the past 20 years! I love them and still run my current 1981 JCM800 2203/Uberkab/Klon rig alongside my 1977 Marshall MKII Superlead NMV. I currently only run my Tonebone Hot British through this amp bridging the channels, It sounds wonderful to say the least. Very even with my 2001 PRS singelcut and PRS #7s p/upd. my 71 Les paul custom which is my #1 is getting WCR coils Darkbursts installed, fretwire and some new electroncis from RS guitarworks so this should be a great combo with my 77 superlead MKII as well. THe Tonebone does color my tone but in a good british gain type of way. The louder you turn the amp the sound cuts into a really nice inspirational sound. Very reminiscant of many multi platinum albums from the past that ive heard i.e Van Halen, Journey, MSG group, AC/DC.
This amp is nothing short of astonishing. If you FIND ONE AMP IN YOUR LIFE where when you hit the FIRST NOTE it inspires you to simply paint the landscape of life with this is it. all Marshalls WERE NOT created equal. This one made it through and still sounds great today! it says "HOME" inside which indicated it is a UK model. SOmetimes I wonder if the UK kept their gems at home and sent their seconds to the USA ? I dont know I doubt it but this amp is very clean. I love bridging the channels together running the bone in there. This may be a bit high gain for some but I love it. AS well I plan on getting a Grey mod DOD250 Analogman pedal for a very natural Marshall gain and the ZVEX Fuzz Factory for a thick fuzz/distortion tone. All great pedals for this amp.As well I feel the correct Attenuation would excel with this amp which I have at this point NOT gotten into but it does look promising for a very natural stock cranked Marshall tone. Perhaps the ULTIMATE is the way?? we will see. THis is a gem of an amp that can be had for $1000 or so dollars still today!

While playing the amp and cranking it past 12olcokc the fuse blew out twice. I realized the reason being was because the Mains was 2amp and not 4amp .I am in the USA. Even though your Marshall comes with a 2amp and 1amp IF it came from the UK check the amp and make sure you make the switch to a 4AMP fuse and you will not have this issue again. Everything else is perfect at this point. I had a friend install and bias to 42 with my NOS SIemens Tubes. THIS I find is critical to the WARMTH of my tone. I do realize the life of my tubes may be shortened a bit but so 3what. I have 5 quads of NPOS SImenes for backup!!

If you are looking for an affordable Marshall MKII NMV type head whther 50 or 1090 watt the 77 Superlead is it! For some reason the green chiclets and mustard mix is grest. People who are biased for Mustard only should rread a little more about these caps. First off Mustards as with any 25++ year old cap will have some internal leakage or wont be as they were the day these caps rolled out of the factory. SOme go for new Vintage+ SOZO or other caps and replace their Mustards. Usually this is NOT the case for many opt to keep their mustards or other original caps as long as the Marshalkl still sounds great. Apparently their is approx a 10% loss of tone? Although im not sure this is the correct term. SImple fact is the Mustard caps loss their performance value after so many years and this is something to be taken into consideration. I have left mine in and my chiclets! OIt sounds incredible. For $1000 to 1200 even this amp is a great value and in my mind it blows away many an amp of today. A great buy if you can find an original example whether USA or HOme UK version.

1988 JCM800 mark 2 RI 100 watt ROCK MONSTER
AT first it was hard to tame, no foot switch no master volume.
I use a jumper to combine two of the four inputs.
My set up clean then Ibanez 808 tube screamer then Boss mt-2 or krank distortion pedal for a metal sound. This is how i compensate for no master and no foot switch. Keep in mind you do not need any of these effects if you are some where you turn it up. I own a crate 3500h and 5150 full stack they dont even come close to the tone or volume this marshall can crush and silence them both.To me i am old school zeppelin, hendrix ect all i need is clean or distorion the rest is in the amp, tubes, pickups and speakers. This amp has all the features it needs, add a pedal if a different sound. The most unique feature is it makes every guitar sound different at the same setting, in other words it bring out the true tone of your axe.

Marshall company when you can talk to someone is very professional. They even still talk to me after i purchases a mg stacks you know the $799.00 I would of been happier just to look at the box instead of that crap. i sent it back. they dont make things like they use to and you get what you pay for.

20 + years if i survived the intial shock yes i would buy one again if i could find one.
I passed my 5150 full stack down to my son along with my gibson double cutaway les paul.
Why you ask, because his crate was not enough to keep up and it was reward for his third year in college.

70's version of the plexi. First PCB and it's the best one since.
It blows the doors off any reissue or DSL etc. And I don't need to swap out the trany's because the vintage drakes were the best ever made. Not even Murcurey Mags can get this tone. I'm in rock heaven:)

Bought a nice one for the money. It sure beets any reissue for the price! The tone beets a reissue too, and it saves needing to mod it or get new transformers. That said, it's a fantastic value even still!

The amps feature two channels (two inputs for each,
the inputs are wired so that they can be used to connect both channels, thus
giving you two different sounds in one, and the level of each controllable
with a volume), bright and normal, individual volumes for each channel and a
standard 4-band EQ. The sound is very "rock", and very wanted. With the lack
of a master volume, the amps rely on power tube distortion.

This 50w all tube amp head is a vintage/re-issue. It features an EL34 output section with 3 x 12ax7 tubes in the pre-amp {tone section]
The four inputs are: two ''HIGH TREBLE'' and two "NORMAL' jacks.THis allows players [like me] to install a patch cord to link the channels, thereby ''mixing'' the two inputs. This allows for very precise dialing in of the very distinctly different channels.I just get channel one going and blend in the much bassier channel two!
The upper inputs for either channel {high] are louder than when using the lower ones. This amp will crank a 4x12 cab no prob/without using the louderupper input jacks. This is a ''straight amp''Built for pure tone...very easy to use...no effects loops or built in fuzz boxes here to interfere with the tone. To show what this amp is capable of IMHO requires some or much tone mods {pedals recommended] to load the preamp and amp and seems to respond very well to most effects.I prefer analog. Can be very dry by itself which is cool and i use it that way but i would get caught at a gig without my pedals!

I use Les Paul guitar, danelectro fab-tone, then all boss:overdrive distortion, CH-1 super chorus, RV-3 reverb/echo, This MK2 amp and the 4x12 vintage re-issue cab with greenback celestions .The pedals are what make this amp shine IMO.it has tons of meat and seems to have no problem at all handling boosted inputs.I'm able to get glorious harmonics and huge levels of distortion, and the amps influence is magnificent...it gets all that, and all the subtle nuances of Marshallness!!! All this aggressiveness can be very useful and the amp loves being aggressive!! It punches, crunches, thrashes and shredds
effortlessly!!!It is the JTM45's evil twin...lol
It is a little trickier to get this amp to go pristine clean as this is not it's forte' [that is what the JTM45's tube rectifier is for].
The transistor rectifier in the MK2 doesn't really allow for silky smooth attack like a tube rectifier does..it slams the voltage into the output tubes for aggressive attack and louder presence.
This is a top of the line Marshall amplifier and aside from its aggressive nature and very slight lack of ability to go super smooth [like higher end amps that were designed to do just that] it is extremely versatile, boosts effortlessly with a stomp box, gets the leads out there to the back of the room without using a mic on it.
This amp is a great tutor for guitar...it instantly transformed my playing style. I found I was able to do tricks I had ever dreamed of.

My MK2 blew a transformer early in it's life and getting the small music store that was for away to service it under warranty was time consuming and difficult.
Other than that it has performed flawlessly and I feel I can depend on it [knock on the wood of the tube amp].
I've changed the tubes once and i couldn't really tell any difference, but I felt better knowing there are reliable valves in it.

Overall this is a superb amp. Anyone who likes crunch, seems to love this amp. Just one huge sustaining A chord gets fans of crunch to take notice.
There's nothing i hate about it. It does everything [that's a lot] it was designed to do extremely well. Gets all the subtle Marshall nuances and harmonic content that you can assimilate.
It takes some getting used to and a good bit of high end stomp box purchasing brings out the value of the unit big time!!!
If you love the Marshall crunch and are playing anything less than stadium sized venues you will love this amp.
I had the 100w SLP head, and this was wayy too much.I had trouble getting it to distort. The MK2 is distortion heaven!

It has a two channels one high one low. Apparently the low channel is setup with a fender tone. It is wired to bypass the first
ecc-83/12ax7 preamp tube and also utilizes a 470K resistor instead of the 68K resister used in the loud channel which produces the classic Marshall tone. The low side Kicks butt with my texas special strat. Keep in mind that changed out the GE 6550's to GT-EL34s H7 and set the bias to 34 mV. The low channel produces a superb Fender tone with the main volume set to 10 and the preamp set to 1.
The loud channel produces the best rock Marshall tone with a Les Paul or any other gibson type guitar. It kicks butt!!

I really wish this amp had channel switching, which makes it difficult to come out of a rhythm riff, and into a solo.( i use my volume knob). I also find it frustrating to not have an effects loop.

I've only been playing for a year and half, and plan on keeping my amo for a long time. I love the overall tone to the amp, especially the deep bass sound on the "normal" channel. I just wish there were more features. But for a straight-forward amp, it's great.

I picked this amp up after trying a half dozen JCM's. Looks like 2 EL34's two other power tubes i dont recognize, and 3 12AX7's inside, and 2 50 watt power transformers instead of one 100 watter. Its not big on features, Vol1 and Vol2, Tones, presence, 4 inputs, and what looks like a mod master volume. The best feature is the power switch, which allows 20, 40 or 100 watts. Great for cranking at low volumes.

I play through a home made tele thinline, with a Dimarzio PreB1 (fatter than stock tele bridge) and a P-90 neck. I'd say that this is the most responsive amp i've played. Theres a bit of hiss, but o'd arpegio's are a treat, and set right, you can get a great "just breaking up" distortion, which opens up when you play harder. This is much more organic than the JCM's i've tried, and the gain is a lot smoother.
