I bought this cab in 1990, so I think that's the year it was made. This cab makes anything sound good. I've played all styles of music through it except for heavy metal which, however, I'm sure would sound great if I did. I use it for blues, rock, contemporary Christian, Country Western, gospel, electric and acoustic guitar, and it's excellent for all of them. I've even used this cab for my Roland D-50 synthesizer (sounded great) and I think once or twice as a P.A. speaker. Again: great sound. I wish it had an 8 ohm setting when using all four 12" speakers. But, sadly, for that, it has only 4 and 16 ohm settings. 8 ohms are only when you use two 12s for left and the other two 12s for right in stereo. Not having an 8 ohm mono/4 speaker setting is a pain in the whatever when you want to play with another 4x12 8 ohm mono speaker cab. I guess you'd have to use a dual plug Y connector into each stereo side which joins to one plug into the amp to outwit it for 8 ohms mono. Never tried it, but think I will now! This was my main speaker cab for 10 years as a Marshall half stack with my fab Marshall JCM 800 2210 100 watt amp head (you can read my Dr. Sound Good review of same). This thing can do 300 watts and I've never used it for more than 150 watts which my JCM 800 2210 was bench tested at. It would be fun to crank 300 watts into it to see what it sounds like, however. Some day I'll try it. I love the fact that it has excess capacity...can handle more than I'll probably ever need it for. I replaced the original casters a few years ago. I wore the original ones out. And that's the only replacements or maintenance on this cab in 16 years I've owned and used it.

Sound Quality : 10
This speaker cab can make any sound you want. I've never driven the speakers to distortion, however, I use the amp for the distortion. I think it would knock down brick walls if I tried it. These speakers are so good you can get a wonderful clear acoustic sound from them, or you can rock and distort the crap out of them, whatever you want. It can do it all and do it well. These things are monsters and I had no idea what a great capacity they had when I bought them. This speaker cab is so well made and has such a large capacity that they ALWAYS sound good, no matter what you're playing.

Reliability : 10
In the 16 years I've owned this speaker cab, and about 700 gigs, this cab is rock solid. Never any problems, ever. I've used it on hundreds of gigs with no back up and never would think of needing backup. No breakdowns ever.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I think it had a one year warranty, which expired in 1991! Never had any problems whatsoever with this speaker cab, and don't think I ever will. But since I never had a warranty claim, I don't know what customer support would be like!

Overall Rating : 10
I've played guitar for 42 years. I have piles of gear. A Crate PCMB 500 watt P.A. amp, a Carvin FET 401 monitor amp, Cerwin Vega 12" 2 way floor monitors, dbx 160 compressor, 2 Soundtech B2E 12" 2 way main speakers,Digitech 2101 studio tube pre-amp, Shure SM58 mics, Yamaha 4 track cassette deck, Marshall 8008 Stereo Valvestate Power Amp, a 1997 '65 Fender Twin Reverb Reissue tube amp, 1977 Fender Vibro-Champ tube amp, Mesa-Boogie V-twin tube pre-amp pedal and Boss foot pedals. If this cab were lost or stolen I'd probably get an exact replacement. It's a classic and it's rock solid in every way. What I love about it is you can use it for any and every sound you might want and it's so solidly made and of such high quality that it's like a classic Mercedes Benz car. It IS heavy and large, but if were not heavy or large it could not do all the stuff it does so very well. All that said, I bought a Seymour Duncan 4X12 T a year ago for $275, and I think it sounds better than this cab for clean tones. Haven't played distorted guitar through it yet. But I don't think it has the capacity or versatility of the 1960A cab. I chose the 1960A cab to give me a Marshall half stack/sound when I bought it along with my JCM 800 2210 amp in 1990. It has done all that and more. I do wish it had a mono/8 ohm 4 speaker setup as noted above. I recommend a Tuki padded cover for this cab (and any other speaker cab or guitar amp) to protect the black tolex cover for local gigging. It'll keep it from getting chewed up from years of local cartage. For touring: a flight case with big casters.

It's a marshall half stack same thing as the 1960v but with 75's instead of vin 30's. Handles feel weak & rear switch fails after a little use so I give it an 8.

Sound Quality : 10
Sound is more than I could ask for. as for some of the reviews that state a muddy(farting)bassline, you shouldhave checked your speaker specs before purchase bottom end of the 75's is rated @70 hertz. if you try to boost the bass on a cab too much and it's close to the bottom end speaker spec.(low E=approx. 85hz)you're gonna distort the speaker. hence this is not the cab to use with extra bassy settings on dropped tunings(drop d, drop c, etc.). I personally have used the cabs in drop D and C but, adjusted the bass to keep it tight & clean with no problem. If you want more bass buy a 1960v cab. The vin 30's handle more lower bass(rated @50hz)without distortion. The sound of the 1960a cab is easy to manipulate to what you desire and I personally don't see the need for a more bass friendly cab (don't these guitarists play with bassists? extra low end is their job).
sounds a 10 by me, like a 4x10 greenback cab on steroids!

Reliability : 7
The toilex sucks!(nothing new), The handles seem flimsy, but they never have broken(even on tour), the switch for mono/stereo is crap,(I removed mine after it broke & set it up with phono jacks to my taste) but the speakers, casters(when tightened occasionally),& cab itself are rock solid. I've punished mine with 50 tube watts rms per 2 speakers cranked up to full and never had a problem. Fix the afformentioned defects and I give the cab a 10, with them I give it a 7

Customer Support : No Opinion
never bothered with it. I mod my own stuff anyway.

Im not sure what year this cab was made in but it was recent. its got standard 12" celestions, full plywood construction, castors and handles. you can also switch between 4 ohm mono, 16 ohm mono, or 8 ohm a side stereo which is a pretty useful feature.

Sound Quality : 9
i like the sound of this cab in the respect that it sounds solid, and not mushy. it has a punchy low end which isnt boomy and the highs hold up nice and clear as well. the sound is also filled out nicely with the mids. evens the sound out.

Reliability : 8
i havent had this cab for very long, but its definantly solid. its got good quality castors and is well constructed.

Customer Support : No Opinion
ive never had to deal with the company so i cant really rate this...

Overall Rating : 9
i used to play through a fender GE-4x12 and once i got the marshall it blew it away. the frequency response is much better and its bassy without sounding like a muddy mess. its also rated at 300 watts so it can take pretty much any head you can throw at it. plus the impedence options make it that much more versatile.

1960A Marshall cab, 4 x 12. Mine is a slant. Also comes in straight. It has Celestion GT12 75 watt speakers. It has one jack for 4 ohm, operates all 4 speakers "mono". It has another jack for 16 ohm, operates all 4 speakers. It has a switch that switches it to 8 ohm. Now it is 8 ohms per side "stereo". If you plug one head into one side, it will operate the two speakers on that side in mono. Plug another head into the other side and it operates those speakers. Thus the stereo term. It has casters and side handles.

Sound Quality : 9
Sounds great. Stays clean with 300 watt power handling.

This cabinet was made in 1982. It has the brown grillcloth and the Celestion GT75 speakers in it, which are basically higher wattage Vintage 30's. I don't know how to rate features, it has two handles, four speakers, six sides, a nameplate, and an input jack. Everything needed is there. There is no butt massager or super whamodyne included.

Sound Quality : 10
This is THE Marshall cabinet to end all Marshall cabs. I had two JCM 900 1960A cabinets and in my opinion they sound like farts compared to this one. I do not know what the difference is, but this one has tight bottom end and smooth purring midrange without shrill highs. It is rattle free.

Reliability : 10
It has lasted since 1982. Built to last.

I have tried to contact Marshall on toher items and they are all but nonresponsive to issues. I'll give a 4 because they have a web site with some info.

I am looking for an identical cab to go with my JMP 50 head. Right now I am running my JCM 2000 TSL 60 through it and it is the cabinet for me. I am actively looking for more of these. I have found my soul mate.

well... its just a cabinet... not much to say here.

Sound Quality : 10
wow is the only thing i can say. I play a marshall jtm600 through this, and it shines. I believe that with any other cabinet, alot of what my head has to offer would be lost.

Reliability : 10
I have not had this cabinet for a very long time, but it has held up fine. I honestly believe that i could play through this cabinet for years and not have a problem. I'm guaranteed at least 5 in the waranty, but i have a hard time believing that it will even need a repair after twice as many years!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Well, its held up fantastically and i have yet a problem that would necessitate me to call or inquire about the product. So i have no rating to give in this category.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for about 7 years. I play a gibson sg a marshall jtm600, and of course the 1960a cab. I only have one effect pedal, which is a snarling dogs wah pedal. I don't need any other effects seeing as how the amp gives me everything i need. I also like the fact that the cabinet gives me an ample oppurtunity to play a louder head through it. Overall, the cabinet allows me to squeeze every last ounce of tone from my head, and i couldn't be happier with my purchase!

Made in 2000, 4x12 Celestions. Good castors, well built, Versatile sound, loud, and very tough!

Sound Quality : 10
Ive been playing for 15 years now and I have always used Marshall amps and cabs, price wise, these cabs are the standard, they sound reasonably good with most heads, can hadle plenty of power. They maintain a decent sound at high volumes. There are better cabs out there, but these ones work fine for me.

Reliability : 10
What have all the big time players been using all these years?

made in 2000.4x12" celestion GT75 speakers.Stereo/Mono switch.
Solid as all shit low end, nice mid's, clean sparkling highs.
Than many users of this cab cant all be wrong can they? - this is the business.

Sound Quality : 9
Like I said, this cab has versatility, class, and a reputation.
Lows are solid and full, not floppy, mids and top end are very good.
This cab is a guitar cab, not a guitar cab that sounds like a bass cab.
For all those nu-metal freaks, (don't get me wrong, I love modern metal),who think the only way to sound, shall I use the loosely used word 'brutal', is to use a recto cab with a trip/dual head, you are only decieving yourselves. This cab is the bees nees of tone, and an industry standard which has truly stood the test of time.
It really shines as a cab that delivers what a roaring head/pre/power rack has to offer.

*Important note for the uneducated.Depending on your position to the cab, and how loud the amp is, you have to configure your set-up. This will avoid the ugly spot about 4ft away from the box. These cabs were meant for large venues, so the sound projects. If it sounds good at low volume, when you crank it, it will sound different, so you have to configure your gain and volume, aswell as your mids. Remember, practice and performance are two seperate animals.

Reliability : 10
solid as a rock. I'd put a motor in it if I could..

haven't needed it...

I've been playing for 11 years. Use a POD Pro>Behringer Dualfex Pro Sonic Enhancer>Yamaha P1600 Power Amp>1960A.
For me this is the most versatile set-up I can currently afford - in fact I'm still paying it off.
This cab is not for beginners, and definatley not for rich daddy's boys who come and write reviews for their Dual Rectifier Heads when they have only been playing for 2 yrs!!!!
This cab is the real deal, not to be underestimated, wrongly used, and definately not fucked with!!
