Marshall 1960A

I bought this cabinet only a month ago so my experience is limited but I am really please with it so far. It was made in 2009. I play mostly Straight forward and Alternative Rock and Metal. I play in several different tunings including standard, but also some drop (as low as Drop B). The switchable mono 4/16 ohm and 8 ohm stereo inputs are a great feature. This really does offer a lot of flexibility, though I am using it exculsively in stereo 8 ohm. I'm not sure how costly it would be, but having a switch setup that allows for all of these ohm settings in mono OR stereo would really open alot of doors for users. Not the end of the world, but I can imagine where it could be an issue with matching other equipment. For instance, I use THD's Hot Plates for attenuation. These are offered with only a single ohm setting per unit. Luckily, I already had the 8 ohm version. I purchased another one, so that I could have a stereo setup. I guess this is really an issue with the Hot Plate. Oh well, you can't have everything.

My use of the Hot Plate with this should obviously point out that I am using this in my home. My setup is as follows: Several Guitar options -> Rocktron Prophesy II -> BBE Sonic Maximizer -> VHT 2-50-2 All Tube Power Amp -> (2) THD Hot Plates (8 ohm) -> Marshall 1960A CAB in 8 ohm stereo connection. My use is strictly personal. I play for my enjoyment and also do some personal recordings via my PC DAW system. The sound from this cab is so much sweeter than that of the Marshall MG412A that I switched it our for. I'm not down on the MG412's. They sound very good for what you???re paying for. But these Vintage Celestian Speakers are just so warm and sweet sounding. It's a step above.

The 9 in this category indicates the best that any product will get from me unless it is way ahead of it's pears in that category. So this is high praise, though other cabs have similar switchable inputs and speaker options. This item is VERY expensive, but worth it if you can afford it. I am BLESSED enough to be able to.

I am using several guitars through this setup. I have a Les Paul Standard with Burst Bucker Pros, A Jackson Dinky with EMG 81/85, a Jackson RR V with EMG 81/60A, a hand made LP variation design with EMG 81/85, and my newest designed Hand Made Musiclander variation with Seymour Duncan Livewire - Dave Mustaine PUPS. The gear I have is obviously high end. Each of my main components is designed for quiet operation with a strong emphasis on quality sound.

This cabinet produces such a warm smooth tone that leads are "sweeter" than my previous cab. At the same time, my distorted rhythm tones are clear, even at very high levels of gain. Anyone familiar with the Prophesy knows that it is capable of producing a very high number of tonal differences using the voicing options along with the equalization settings available. I have more than a dozen variations of high gain tones set up and ALL of them sound great. Fuzzy to grinding, more low or more high end, each sounds full round and sparkly (not brittle or muddy). I actually returned all of the settings on the preamp to their factory setup and now I get what was intended for the Prophesy right out of the box. Every one of the factory presets sounds extremely well rounded. I wish I had purchased this cabinet before I put in all that tweaking time with the Prophesy to get it to sound good through the MG412 cab.

Oh well...I have it now!

I have only had this for a couple of months now. Built like you would expect from Marshall. Solid all the way around. My guess is that it isn't going to fall apart anytime soon.

No experience in this department so no opinion.

Overall, I am extremely happy with my choice to buy this cabinet. Again it was very expensive. But, if you have the option (and I understand that not everyone does) this baby is absolutely worth the dough.

I bought this cabinet in 1991. It was new and I presume it was made somewhere close to that time - probably 1990 at the earliest.

It's extremely flexible for any setup - stereo or mono, with impedence selectors.

I've played a very wide range of musical styles through the years and this cabinet has always played it's part in delivering them all - no exceptions. It gives me exactly what I ask of it. When I want punch, I get it. When I want deep & chunky, it's there. When I want glissening highs, I have to duck.

I drive it in stereo, with a Marshall JMP1 Preamp, and a EL34 50/50 Power Amp. I also occasionally drive it in mono with a TSL100.

For those people who say this cabinet distorts, or doesn't sound good with clean sounds, or doesn't project the sound well, I would say check your other gear for problems. This cabinet will reproduce exactly whatever you feed it with - garbage-in, garbage-out. If you're using anything that's low-grade, either guitars or amps, then you'll hear it clearly from this cab.

In all the years I've had this cabinet, I've never once had to lower my eyebrows at it.

I've had this cabinet for 17 years and it's never given me a single bit of trouble. It's on it's original speakers and they still sound great. I've gone through 2 preamps and 3 power amps in the time I've had this cabinet. Now that I think of it, I believe it's actually the oldest piece of musical equipment I own.

I keep it in a custom-made flight case. The lid comes off at the start of a gig and goes back on at the end. I've played in several bands, and had several different sets of roadies wheeling it in and out of vans, and on and off stages, and there's hardly a single mark anywhere on it, and no tears on the front. The cabinet stays in the base unit of the flightcase all through a gig so is kept out of the range of stray heels. Also, any other rack that bumps into it hits the outer part of the flighcase first, and not the cab itself.

I keep reading reviews where people whine about how their cabs are all torn and beat up - well duuh! Take proper care of it! If you're a semi-pro or pro gigging musician then there's no excuse. My cabinet has been hauled across the UK and Europe for 17 years and still looks exactly like it did the day I bought it.

I've been playing semi-pro for 26 years. This cabinet has been with me for 17 of those.

I've said it all in the sections above - this cabinet is one of the best purchases I have ever made. If it were stolen, I would first try and find another one from the same period but, failing that, I'd get a new one.

This is a mid 90's 4x12. Just your basic 4x12. It gets a 10 because of the ohm switching options it has on the back. You can run mono at either 4 or 16 or stereo at 8 ohms a side.

I've been using this cab with my Soldano HR50 head and I can get a pretty chunky AC/DC type crunch out of them. I don't like the clean tones all that much and the cabinet has a tendency to be really beamy. If you stand right in front, the highs blow your ears apart...step a few feet to the left and you can't hear the thing at all. I do believe that this is a design flaw in the cab and not the speakers themselves.

I'm not sure why these cabs get such high ratings as far as reliability is concerned. Between my friends I've known 3 or 4 people with this same cab and every one has tolex tearing and curling up all over the place. Obviously very low grade material.

All of the "hardware" is made of cheap plastic. Both of the handles have broken off at different points (screws pulled right threw the plastic). The corner protectors are also made of cheap plastic. All of the speakers come loose and rattle around on a regular basis.

The only thing saving this is that it's never actually stopped working on me.

I've never dealt with Marshall's customer service, but I'm willing to guess that it might be a nightmare after working with people like Soldano, Weber Speakers, and Earcandy Cabs. This will probably be the last mass produced piece of equipment I'll ever use.

Overall, you most likely get your money's worth here. They are fairly inexpensive cabs and obviously were pinching pennies when it comes to the cab hardware. But all in all, it sounds good and has never quit for probably over 10 years. It's a good cab when you can't really stand to fork over a grand for a boutique 4x12 (Bogner/Orange).

I use an Epiphone Les Paul Custom plugged into a Marshall JCM-900 Dual Reverb. The combination of these three componants bring about the greatest tones that my hands have ever created. I play Hardcore music and a lot of distortion is needed for my style. This Cab delivers that sound 100%.

I gig with this set up all the time without a backup. The amp and cab have never let me down. I guess I must let it be known that I am a complete gear freak and take very special care of my equipment. It's so dear to me that I rarely let anyone else touch it and have only let one other person , a very close friend of mine, actually plug into it.

I personally have never had a need to deal with the costumer service so I cannot say I have a right to an opinion in this catagory.

I got my first guitar for over 8 years ago, and havn't stopped playing since. This set-up is my baby and if any piece of it were lost or stolen I wouldn't think twice about buying it again. Everything about it fits perfectly into my style where all others fail. Overall I am very pleased with this cab and I reccomend it to everyone who is considering purchasing this find piece of equipment

Bought this speaker cab new in 1990 as part of a Marshall JCM 800 2210 half stack for $2,634. I'm supposing it was made in 1990. Including the hefty finance charge, I probably paid about $1,000 for it. This speaker cab is great for anything you want to play through it, guitars, keyboards, even a P.A. It works for all my sytles of playing which are blues, rock, Contemporary Christian, gospel, Country Western, bluegrass. You can play acoustic guitar, rock, folk, blues, jazz, anything through this thing and it will sound good. It does 4 and 16 ohms in mono with all 4 speakers simultaneous. It does 8 ohms per side with two of the speakers per side in stereo. I wish it had an 8 ohm mono switch for using all 4 speakers simultaneous, but I accomplish that by putting switching it to stereo and plugging in a y-connector w/ a plug into each jack on the speaker box which is combined into one 1/4" jack. If I have it right (and I could be wrong) 8+8=16 divided by 2 = 8 ohms. It sounds like 8 ohms anyway! It was my main speaker cab for 7 years with the JCM 800 2210 head, but to reduce cartability hassles, my 1997 Fender 1965 Twin Reverb amp took its place as my main amp. The 65 lb. Twin was much easier to schlep around than the estimated 140 lbs. half stack. I use this speaker cab at home now for practice. I'm hoping it will be back on the stage in a couple of years for large venues, or venues in which I need to dominate and intimidate. When you roll one of these things in, heads turn. Marshall in the house!

This speaker cab can make any sound you want. It really sounds good with an amplified acoustic guitar. Variety is really unlimited, I'd say. I've never driven this cab to distortion using a clean amp channel. I think any jets in the vicinity would be blasted out of the sky into oblivion or worse. Well, I never needed to because the Marshall JCM 800 2210 has a great distortion channel allowing the pre-amp to easily be overdriven without crashing commercial aircraft in the vicinity. I play a 1994 Fender Eric Clapton signature stratocaster, a 1976 standard strat, 1976 Les Paul Custom, but mostly played my 1989 Gibson ES-335 through it, mostly blues/rock stuff. Also play Takamine and Esteban acoustic guitars with pickups through it. Everythang sounds great using this cab. It's not noisy. I've never played it louder than 7 on the Master volume without the Marshall Power Brake attenuator, which I recommend for lower volume playing. You can crank the amp as loud as you want but attenuate it down so it won't blast your ears out. It can make any sound you want. Has tremendous range. The only reason I'm not giving this a 10 is because I have a Seymour Duncan 4x12 speaker cab which I think sounds better than this. By comparison, the 1960A has a muddier, earthier sound. That is, the Seymour Duncan cab has a very clear and musical, airey sound.

This thing is a rock in terms of reliability. It's never let me down ever. I would and have used it without a backup because the only reason I could see for it failing is that I would blow it out. That would take over 300 watts, and I doubt I'd ever do that. My JCM 800 2210 was bench tested at 150 watts, and I can't imagine hooking an amp with more than 300 watts to this cab. Altough maybe I should try it just for the heck of it some day. For those who want to keep their Tolex in top shape for aound town gigs: Get a Tuki cover. They are tops. For $75 you can get one, put it on to keep dust off when not in use, and when schlepping, you can shove it around and pack it against your other gear with no worries. You won't get dings or tears or gashes. The only thing that needed doing was in 2000 I replaced the original 4 caster wheels for $10.73. The original ones just got worn out/chipped up from all the schlepping to gigs. Pretty good for 17 years of use.

Never a need for any customer support yet. Never needed repairs. And that's after having owned and used it for 17 years! Probably I've done about 1,000 gigs with this speaker cab so far. It's just so well made you'd really have to abuse it to need repairs. I guess the original warranty was a year, but that would have expired in

I've played guitar for 43 years now. I have piles of gear. A Crate PCMB 500 watt P.A. amp, a Carvin FET 401 monitor amp, Cerwin Vega 12" 2 way floor monitors, dbx 160 compressor, 2 Soundtech B2E 12" 2 way main speakers,Digitech 2101 studio tube pre-amp, Shure SM58 & SM57 mics, Yamaha 4 track cassette deck, Marshall 8008 Stereo Valvestate Power Amp, a 1997 '65 Fender Twin Reverb Reissue tube amp, 1977 Fender Vibro-Champ tube amp, Mesa-Boogie V-twin tube pre-amp pedal and Boss foot pedals.

2004 Marshall 1960A 4x12 cabinet - mono at 4 or 16ohms, stereo at 8ohms, 300w handling. I play mostly with a 70's/80's style guitar tone with a Goth-rock band. For the type of guitar tones I use in my setup, think Black Sabbath, John Christ (Danzig), Slash, Joe Perry, and Ace Frehley.

This cabinet produces a clear punchy tone without being too boomy which is absolutely perfect towards my needs. With two guitar players, a keyboardist, and a bass player in my band it sits right in the EQ settings I need.

My gear consists of a Gibson 1958 ReIssue Les Paul Standard, Marshall JCM800 2210 100w dual channel head, with my only effect being a Dunlop Crybaby pedal. This cab (although a newer model, as opposed to a JCM800 1960A) is a perfect match for my amp.

For years I had been slowly upgrading my gear towards what I really needed versus what was within my short range budget and was running through a Marshall Valvestate 4x12 cabinet. I finally succumbed to replacing it with a 1960A after doing a gig where another band loaned me a 1960A for the night. The punch I got from my tone that night finalized my decision that I needed to upgrade my cab.

Again, this cab is very punchy without being overly boomy, maximizing the most out of muted power chords and thumping rhythm parts. It makes the most out of my JCM800's potential.

Well, this is still a relatively new cabinet so the tolex hasn't gotten beaten up yet, although I expect it to over the years as all of my Marshall stuff has.

Aside from this, I would expect that this cab will function perfectly, after all the abuse I've given to my old Valvestate cab.

While anything with the Marshall name is going to be pricey, I was lucky to find this one used from a good friend. It's truly the missing ingredient in perfecting my tone, and if anyone were crafty enough to steal it - it's quite heavy - indeed I'd be on the market for a replacement.

2006 Marshall 4x12 cabinet. mono/stereo operation.

Came with Celestion G12T-75 speakers. Yuck. Marshall's upcharge to get into their better cabs is like $300 (if you can even find them). Uggh. Solution: Buy the stock 1960 cab and replace the speaks. :-)

Tried sets of Celestions ("Hellatone" label, from the awesome Avatar Speakers company) in the cab -- G12H30's and then Vintage 30's. Definitely an improvement to the tone and louder than the 75's. The 75's were inarticulate, generic, and guitar notes died away very quickly. But I had problems with the other speakers, too. The H's were VERY bass-heavy and quite trebly, while the V's were smooth but didn't have ENOUGH shimmer/treble. Great. :-(

My breakthrough came when I decided to try a combination of the two types. I first installed the H's on the left and the V's on the right and ran the cab stereo, 8 ohms, to compare them individually and then ran the cab mono, 16 ohms, to hear them combined. No doubt about it -- the combination was a winner for all-around Marshall sounds, though the two types each had great qualities. I finally installed the two Celestion Vintage 30's and two Celestion G12H30's in an "X" pattern, so the sound blended well. I feel this is the ultimate combination to go with my Marshall DSL 50 head. V30's are warm and full, H's are crunchy with more highs & lows. They are not drastically different and actually compliment one another well. Best of the old, best of the new. And all for less $$ than Marshall's Vintage and Classic cabinet.

Those who gripe about the tolex durability: You're right, it should be (and could easily be) tougher. So since it is what it is, do what I did and GET A COVER (or a case). I mean, if you just get a $30 cover and transport it with care, it should be in good shape for years and years.

I am using strats with HS-3 Dimarzio's
model 1987 50w Marshall top and a new handwired 1959 super lead.
I was running through a trace elliott 4x12 240 watt cab made of particle board for three years, It was probarbly manufactured about 12 years ago...
I never realised how bad it actually was untill I plugged into a Marshall cab.
I tried the 100w, 280w and finally the holy grail... 300w g12t-75.
Man.... This is the sound I have searched high and low for all these years.
It has great bottom end capabilities, I dont understand all the whinging on this subject, real sweet yet ballsy midrange and a singing high end.
Projection is real good, I think the people having problems with this dont understand you need to crank you Marshall to get projection.
These are really large venue boxes and tailored for them.

Man, If youre using a cab just because you picked it up cheap and couldnt afford a good one at the time like myself... get real with yourself..... get a good one!!

Bought new at guitar center, Owned for 1 year. 4 G12T 75 watt speakers. Mono/stereo 300 watt cab.
I use this for band rehearsals, can handle plenty of power

I use this for hi-gain metal. It is an improvement over a stock Peavey cab, but the speakers in this really hold it back. I think these speakers are inarticulate, they will give you a headache and ear fatigue real fast. There is always a mid-treble brightness present that cannot be EQ-ed out of the sound. I think replacing at least two of these speakers with a better sound might help. I replaced two of these with Weber Thames speakers with truly spectacular results.

Not impressed with the construction of these. Seems cheap and thrown together from a hi speed production line.

yes it does have less mids, but theres always a solution to that.........TURN UP YOUR MIDS! JESUS! i use a Peavey JSX, and the sound i get is BEYOND CRUNCH! outstanding tone! you dont NEED to dial out your mids to get a metal tone. its got enough bottom end. i actually have to take some lows out, its a really heavy cab. the straight cab has more mids if you really want it...if you own a mesa head, why are you buying a marshall cab? mesa heads are specifically made for mesa cabs. marshalls are GREAT with marshalls or peaveys. the next guy to complain about the lack of low end NEEDS to get a life and learn tone. otherwise, this is a GREAT angled cab.

it weighs a ton, so chances are some roadie is going to drop it, for the lack of muscle.

i hear theyre terrible...but IF i need anything, ill do it myself. im not a nerd, but i know my components left from right.

i plan on buying a straight cab for the full stack look...but i really dont NEED it...this thing is plenty loud enough. tom morello used his half stack for over a decade, and its still louder than any band with walls of stacks...you do know that they only mic one small amp in the back and run it through the pa? did you think PAs were just for vocals?

mesas are for posers...unless you own a lone star

marshalls are for the strong and half deaf

bogners are for the rich and far from famous

framus are for the emo kids

and krank are for most new metal heads...not that its a bad thing.


these cabs make up for musicians who have already lost some hearing. and if you havent yet, YOU WILL!

I got this cab in 2003 to replace the first cab i ever bought which was a used jackson 4x12 peice of junk. This was a great upgrade. as far as features, its a cab. come on. you know this!

versatility gets a ten i guess. i mean you can choose your ohm rating and switch between mono and stereo. when a cab comes along that spits out money or does homework, then ill be impressed.

my rig is like this:
gibson SG/Les paul studio > rack (Korg tuner, Alesis Compressor, Ibanez tube screamer modded into a rack unit) > Mesa Dual Rectifier (3-channel model circa 2002) > out of both 8ohm outputs into both 8 ohm inputs of the cabinet with the switch set to stereo (takes an extra speaker cable and 3 extra seconds of your time but just sounds that much better.)

IMPORTANT!!! - I replaced 2 of the stock celetion g12t75's in my cab with vintage 30's. trust me the 30's sound way better but i like the combination of these two types of speaker over loading my cab with v30s. this is just a personal taste issue for me, but im more pleased now with the v30's in.

i hope i dont sound like these douchebags who go "i play ultra brutal nu metal with a really original sound" sure you do, genius. youre a walking talking oxymoron. and if you happen to be one of these guys, and youre offended, im not sorry. it just so happens that nu metal sucks.

with that said, I play loud. punk, metal, thrash, hardcore, whatever you want to call it. music thats fun. this guitar tone (after years of tinkering with different stuff like tubes, and processing etc.) is my all time favorite tone. it just sound sperfect and exactly how i want it. and before i put the v30's in, it didnt sound right at all.

when marshall starts making cabs with this speaker combination, THEN ill give it a ten.

the only thing that has ever gone wrong was the cab got dropped on it's face and one of the speakers came loose. other wise, it hasput up with relentless wear from touring. the tolex has seen it's better days, but ive never seen a cab thats seen as much use as mine that looked any better.

ive never really had to call marshall. so i cant say. read someone else's review for this.

ive been playing guitar for ten years and im still learning about all the great gear thats out there. but as of right now i couldnt be happier with what i have. my guitars and amp are like my best friends. this cabinet is better than all of the others i have tried. if it were ever stolen i would certianly buy another one.

i highly reccomend picking one up and putting in some v30's

I use a MARSHALL JCM 800 2203x RE-ISSUE: I get a PERFECT sound and YES, I can achieve SEVERAL different variations of distortion. Amount of gain - chunk - or fluffy high end, mids, and some bottomend while retaining my full-on picking attack and excellent funk attack/chordal onslaught :>)

i. This cabinet and my amp for that matter are both built like MACK Trucks.
ii. Replace your tubes every six to eight months depending on how often you play through the tube head. Example: If your crankin six hours a night five days a week at your local watering hole or STADIUM :), Change your tubes every six months. Occassional bedroom shredder? Every Twelve or more months.

iii. Middle: 5.9 to 6.1
iv. Bass: 8.0 to 9.0 ( THis should suffice you tonal monsters with more chunk with that xtra 1.0 of BASS LOL! :>)

It was made in 2004. Its versatile enough. I play straight up hard rock n' roll, power trio format. The features have been described before. Its kickass, period.

Les Pauls and Strats, EMG'S all the way. It's noisy ass hell...IT HAS TO BE! The only way this cab will sound right is in a live situation, what i mean is with the volume on your amp maxxed out. It has a midrangey bass sound, sounds like heaven (or hell) when i'm playing.

Its built like a tank (all hail Jim Marshall). Hasn't broke down yet its NEW. I don't think it will. It looks too tough.

1960A Marshall 4-12 with 75 watt celestions. early 80's model with ni impedence switch, bought in mint condition from a recording studio. Has casters and in great condition. Too heavy to move around!

The drivers are not really efficient, i think they are rated at 95 spl. So the cabinet is not really very efficient in terms of delivering the true output of a given amplifier. Remember to increase acoustic output 3db, you can either double the amp output ( replace a 50 watt head with a 100 watt head) or get a 3db more efficient speaker. Celestion makes many. I use a g12 H100 live ( 100 spl) and one single 12 to lug around. However volume is only one element of tone as we all know.
The cabinet is used to give a bottom end to 40 watt and 15 watt tube amps in the studio. I play country folk and some rock and use a tele mostly. It does not shimmer, but add a bit of kick. Heck it look cool too.Middy, yup, sounds good with 6l6 and el84 based amps.

Strong. However pretty sloppy looking workmanship inside, wood glue all over the place. Doesn't affect sound, but for the $$ someone could be a little more concientious.

Use primarily for recording as it is " the standard" 4 - 12. Don't use it live, perhaps i suck too bad to have roadies. Live i use an american telecaster ( 1982) and a 15 watt or 40 watt combo( Traynor tube amps).
I use a single efficient celestion, turn up the small amp to about 7 or 8 and use guitar volume for the rest. Dead simple and you can get some good sounds. After the gig, no need to put the sweetheart in the van with the stack. Put the amp in the trunk and get on with other things. Too simple for most guitar players, who usually think that they are the only ones who understand tone, so change pickups, cables cabs, amps etc instead of practicing and listening to those that they are playing with. Has great live application if someone want to carry it around. Not me though. I would never sell it as i'd regret it.

I play classic rock - that's what this cab was built to play, so it's a marriage made in heaven. I don't use many effects (just a Boss digital chorus and a Cry Baby) and only use valve amps (tubes for our American cousins). Everything I try to do sounds great with this cab - even at low volume.
I only bought this cab as my 50 Watt Engl screamer combo was struggling with my band, so I bought this with a TSL100 as I couldn't afford an Engl half stack although I love the tone an Engl produces - the combo just couldn't cope with a live band. I almost just bought a cab to try to expand the sound of the combo, but went nuts and got the Marshall half stack. Have now invented a new tone! Used the Boss pedal to get a stereo signal from the guitar, put one lead into the TSL and one into the Engl and then use the stereo inputs on the cab - you get the best of both worlds - a real fat sound that almost shimmers. TONE HEAVEN.

Surprisingly light, but feels like you could drive a tank into it without any damage. Plenty of headroom in the speakers as the head is only 125 Watts and the cab can handle 300 Watts. Only concern is that metal corner protectors might have been better than plastic ones. This is a really MINOR concern.

Can't really fault this cab - it does EXACTLY what I wanted it to do. I play classic rock and this was designed to play classic rock. If you want to play all that nu-metal 7 string crap, then go and buy something else. Us grown ups know what we like and this is it!
I have been playing for 15 years and use a LP Custom, LP Classic Double Cut with P90s, a Ric 330, SG standard, USA Strat and a much lamented impulse buy - an Ibanez EDR470 (soon to be seen on an ebay screen near you!). Mainly classic guitars which all sound superb through this cab with either of my amps (Engl screamer 50 Watt and MArshall TSL100)

Ok. Here's where everyone gets messed up.
Boogies are cool if you want that huge low-end CHUG out of your head. They're oversized to accentuate this and are matched to a 6L6-type head that needs it. It's good if you want to play in unison with the bass to get that overwhelming tone from your band. I watched Ty Tabor use this live to it's pinnacle. That being said...
I currently run a Dual Recto head (1994 - the last good year) with EL34's for a tighter bottom with a PRS Custom 24 and a 1960 cab. This is not going to sound like Nu-Metal. It's not supposed to. Boogie cabs are beef, this is the bite. For Dave Navarro-y octave work, leads or anything that needs to bark at you, this is the cab to use. Want a little more bottom for your bottom? Use the 1960B instead. Want overwhelming bottom? Get a boogie. You must use the right tool for the right job or you'll be left holding the bag.

You could throw it off a loading dock, coat it in Kibbles and Bits and set wild dogs on it. Then set it on fire, put the fire out by peeing on it and cover it in honey. It'll still blow windows out.

Never had to. I guess that's a tribute to the reliability.

If it's classic guitar bite-your-face-off body and power you seek, this is your tool. Period.

JCM 800 series 1960A angled 4x12 cab. Purchased I believe 1989? None of the modern stereo/mono options. One plug. Claims to be 8ohm, but may be 16 (long story). No castors, so the side handles for carying are much appreciated. A 7, as you can add castors, but there is only the one jack.

Running with JCM800 2203 head. Loud as heck. My amp needs a re-tube and a tune-up, but that's hardly the cab's fault. Does a respectable clean sound. Very little midrange, with distortion is very aggressive sounding. Great for sounding like Slayer and other thrash bands, but too aggressive for most rock music. If you're into that ultra-thrash stuff exclusively, then it's a 10. Otherwise . . . I feel my head can sound like so much more, and will once I buy the 1960 vintage cab. Oh, something to note though. Guitar solos do sound very awesome. Perhaps that's why they call it the 1960 lead?

Has stains. Lots of tears in the tolex. Half of the covering on the bottom is gone. Any amp with tolex is like that though. It looks cool, but not half as tough as that carpet-type stuff. Handles starting to feel a wee bit loose, but after 15 years of hard work it's still kickin'.

Only dealt with Canadian dudes through Erikson Music. You wouldn't think it, but they were quite responsive and helpful, even through email.

A good cab, but I need something more versatile tonally. I feel my head could sound better than it does through this cab. Still, note the name on it. 1960 lead. IF you pretty much solo through this thing, it's great. I just like a more midrange-y rhythm sound. Also, sometime I wish it had a metal grille on the front to protect the speakers, but I might just be paranoid. My advice: Try this and the 1960 vintage and see which suits you better. If you have a 50wt head, or are running a full stack, the 1960 classics with Greenbacks are extremely killer too.

It is a 2001 model but they all look and sound the same to me. This is where all the classic tones came from. Two classic name brands are fender and marshall. If you had those, you had the tone! It has 4 12' celestion 75 watt speakers, and must say that this thing looks like it was built cheap but it can take some hits!! So its a cab, a box with speakers nothing else.

Well this is where the classic sound came from but times have changed. Of course, this is the ideal cab that is played at the venues around here. If you see a guy with a half stack, 90% of the time the cab is a marshall. Because you see them on tv and they have soo much watt leverage that you can push these until you get evicted. Even when pushed so hard, you get people saying that the speakers sound great cause it gives an old blues tone. Whatever. I have had this cab because i wanted to jump on the band wagon myself.

Enough B.S.! This cab is just straight out, not for mesa's, bogner's, soldano's, Peavey XXX's. It combines that marshall sound with those heads and it just throws a wall of mids at you. The highs are so harsh that i just think of dirt when i turn this baby up. The lows are ok but its not that type of a cab. Its a marshall, they (in my opinion) failed with that P.O.S. mode four. stick to the classic tones! i just gave up and bought a mesa recto cab. (not a dual rectifier, just the cab) But i have heard it through old marshall heads and that is where this cab shines! A well appreciated cab for a first half stack but try the cab out first before purchase.

i wouldn't buy it again. its more of out of date. Not my style and its all about style. I am sure that so many other people rate this cab a 10 but in my opinion, its not for me.

features? it's a cabinet. the stereo/mono stwitching and the impedence capabilities are quite nice though, most cabinets don't offer that.

a lot of people have said that this thing doesn't put out a good solid low end. and a lot of people have commented on the harsh high end. i've had my cabinet for about 4 months now, and that is nothing that can't be fixed by a little tweaking. and i've also noticed that this thing doesn't sound spectacular in my band's practice room, but when we're out playing at a large venue, it sounds amazing. if you think your amp sounds bad, try playing it outside or something. the acoustics will make quite a difference.

and this cabinet can go from soft rock to metal and anywhere in between. for people who think this thing can't do metal, i don't know what you're hearing. i play a lot of stuff like betwen the buried and me/as the sun sets/stuff along those lines. trust me, this cabinet will keep up with music that heavy.

if you're taking this cabinet on the road, then yeah, the tolex will tear, and the grill cloth might rip. shit will get torn up, but thats no reason to render it unreliable...the speakers in this bad boy handle any power and volume you will ever put into them. and not only that...they handle it well. most amps can handle anything, but not all of them do a good job.

the construction seems solid, but i've never heard of a cabinet being poorly built. and as far as the complaints on the casters go...mine are holding up extremely well. i can roll over cables and bumps in the pavement, where as with my old cabinet (an ampeg) i would have to lift it over everything

never had to deal with them, but the manual was really stupid. if i hadn't already known how to correctly operate an amp, i would have been angry. because the manual told you absolutely nothing.

i play through an '03 ibanez artist with a SD JB in the bridge position, and a series 2 mesa single rectifier head. i chose this cabinet over the mesa, because the recto cabinets sounded too grainy to me. i don't want to get into the whole mesa vs. marshall bullshit, but most of the people that gave this a bad rating were playing through a marshall head. don't get me wrong, i've heard plenty of people get awesome tone using marshall heads, and plenty using mesa cabinets. but to me this cabinet sounded excellent, so i bought it over other brands.

Simple, but more than most cabs. Having the ability to switch between mono/stereo and different impedances is a big help. Mine is a 1995 Special Edition red one, which I love the look of.

Before I get under way I would just like to point out that I am not a 'major recording artist', 'in a signed band' or 'a touring guitarist for [insert famous musician here]' nor do I plan to be. Let me tell you straight who I am.

I'm an english guy in uni on a commercial music course, I've been playing around six or seven years. I'm 19. I'm not a great player nor ever will be. I used to own loads of effects but now own just a GT-5, a Small Stone and a couple of others. I'm not out to bulls**t anyone.

I rarely award anything a ten, but this is as close as it's going to get to perfect in my opinion. The frequency response, punch and clarity of those big G12T-75s is perfect for the two main Marshall heads I've had the pleasure of owning or using. These are the Valvestate 8200 Bi-Chorus 200w head (great for what is more or less a solid state) and my current amplifier, a 1978 Marshall JMP MKII 50 watt 2204. Both of these amps sound exactly as I want when using these cabs.

Guitars I'm using with it, currently a 2002 Gibson SG Standard that I've owned from new and a Squier Affinity Strat on loan from a friend. Both guitars are stock however the Strat has been fitted with a Roland GK-2a external MIDI pickup for use with the Roland VG-8 system I am currently testing.

Music styles: rock, with some subgenres (heavy metal, old punk, new punk [minus good charlotte and that sort of junk]), folk and some contemporary R&B/hiphop. Blues too, although I'll never have the sort of soul Hooker and King had/have in spades. I don't play jazz, although I know a great arrangement of 'misty' by errol garner.

Noisy? Only if what you're running it through is. Plenty of variety (depends on your amp and guitar), but I'm sure I can cover most things I need with this, a good JMP/Plexi and a Strat.

The thing I really love is the headroom - it's a 300w cab so you'd have to have a mighty amp to ever get those speakers to distort.

Aside: I actually sold my AC30 w/alnico blues to get this and the JMP partly because I disliked the easy break up of the blues, even if they ARE part of that coveted Vox tone. Not for me I'm afraid, although I was thinking about changing the blues for G12T-75s, but that would have made the amp so heavy - it's already a healthy 35kg or so - and more impractical.

To me, I can do practically everything I want or need with this cab, and I can't say that about most pieces I've ever owned so it's got to be a 10 - perfect for me.

Built well as most Marshall stuff is. The wheels are great and can stand up to a lot of abuse - important if you're gigging a lot. It's never let me down, and I've been using these cabs (a few before I got mine) for around two or three years and I'm not careful with my gear.

No idea, although I've heard firsthand from a friend that Jim Marshall is a **** these days. His words, not mine.

If this were stolen or lost (how would you lose it I wonder) I might be tempted to try out some other marshall cabs, like the vintage 30 or greenback loaded ones. But I have a feeling I'd still come to this one.

What do I love about it? Everything, especially the red. What do I hate? The weight, but I'm willing to put up with that for the tone it gives me.

Didn't really compare it to other products I'll be honest; why keep searching when you've already found a tone that you love and one that still impresses you every time you plug in? I've been down that road and I just came back to what I had before, but with less cash in my bank account.

I chose this simply because in combination with the right amp heads and guitars, I can get the tone I hear in my head coming out through the speakers. I like that.

Anything I'd like to share? Certainly. I think guitarists today are far too picky and never appreciate the sheer variety available today. There are plenty of classics out there to choose from, and many more still being made (time will tell what is classic and what isn't) so I think we should realise that we've never had it so good. I do now, and it humbles me as a player. Maybe Jimmy Page was that impressive because he concentrated on his technique, not how collectable his rig was or how many effects he could cram on his pedalboard. Sorry for the lecture.

So in conclusion, I think this cab is fantastic, and I got it for half price because I bought it with my JMP head and paid cash. I don't think I'll need any more cabs after this. I don't usually award 10s for every catagory, but this is a rare occasion. Great piece of kit!

Everyone who plays rock guitar has seen this cabinet!!! It's a 300 watt 4 x 12 speaker cabinet the runs mono at 4 or 16 ohms and stereo at 8 ohms per side.

Ok here's the skinny....
I am a touring rock guitarist in a major label band(name witheld for legal reasons). In my 10 years as a musician I have either owned or gigged with every half stack, combo, midi rack, etc. you could possibly think of. I have come to the decision that no matter what head or power amp you run, you can't go wrong with a 1960A. I currently play with a marshall TSL100 run in a series with a 1985 JCM800 that are both rack mounted in a midi rack. These babies are my bread and butter! I'll never leave home without them. And of course you know that the 1960 was made for these heads. They have a frequency response like no other cabinet out there. Lets put it this way, my rhythm guitarist runs a Mesa Duel Recifier 3 channel head and an XL recto cab with a PRS custom 22... and guess what??? I dominate him in a mix!(sorry T!!!) The mesas have a compressed poopy sound that kinda sounds great by itself but when the whole band plays it gets lost in bassland, and thats no place a guitar player wants to be. We don't play 80's metal or anything, we are a modern rock band and we sound like it too. And for me it's all due to my Les Pauls(which are a whole nother story!!!) and my marshalls. I my professional opinion the 1960a is the best rock guitar cabinet made.

You can't go wrong with this cab. the only thing that may be a factor is the size of your hall. If you have to stand more that 20 feet away from your cabs you might not hear the top 2 speakers but a 1960b will do you just fine. Or be like me and use inner ear monitors and never hear a d@#% thing again(that one's for you Ron!!!)

Stereo or mono options (4-8-16 ohms). It's a 4-12 cab built like a tank. It is loaded with 4 Celestion G12T-75 Watts with 300 RMS rating. IT's on castors so it rolls wherever you want to push it. Plus it's not really that heavy if you want to carry it, and it fit in my trunk. Sure, it's not as easy to carry as a 2-12, but who cares?

I play a Fender Bassman Head (Torrez Modified) 100 W. THis head is one of a kind. Couldn't be happier with it with this cabinet. Sounds incredible. I've been playing for some 15 years, all styles from country, blues to hard ACDC like rock. This cabinet sounds great even in that range of music, ballads to rockers. Sounds awesome clean with perfect break-up, and at the same time, if you want to boost it dirty, it somehow maintains the tone. Unlike any other cab I had played with, my vocals actually broke through despite my playing being 10X louder with this box. It basically balanced the treble and the bass, which I had trouble with with other boxes.

Looks pretty damn reliable.

I think you will be happy with this cab if you have a big head to power it. I can't speak for metal, but for hard rock, I got the most beautiful crunch out of this with screaming leads that were miraculously easy on the ears. Even at excessively high volume levels, this cab is clear and packs a punch. I paid more than I thought the thing was worth. (I had played it on a Mesa head at the store). THen I brought it home and now, I couldn't be happier.

As many features as a cabinet can have. Stereo or mono wiring also 4,8, and 16 ohm options. You don't really get more options than this for cabinets.

I use mostly custom superstrats made by me as well as a zion custom radicaster with dimarzio pickups. This sounds great and really captures the marshall metal sound really well. I wish if people would stop complaining about bass response and all of that. This delivers all the bass I need at very high volumes. Keep in mind marshall cabinets were designed to be used with marshall or british sounding amps and mesa cabs were designed for mesa cabs. If you play a mesa with a marshall cab it won't sound and likewise if you play a marshall through a mesa cab it won't sound good. Basically a marshall cab is designed to thicken and fatten up El34 driven amps. If you play a mesa through it's going to fart. These are completely differently voiced amps and likewise the cabinets have to be voiced differently. It's mostly a matter of speakers. Since 6l6 driven amps aren't as punchy in the midrange area they really benefit from vintage 30's which is why mesa choices them. El34 driven amps have a very sharp upper mid spike which is why they need speakers with a more relaxed mid quality. Everybody has their tastes and some people actually like vintage 30s with el34 driven amps. Also the 1960AV series doesn't have vintage 30's. IT's a custom designed vintage speaker made for marshall. Vintage 30's are 60 watt not 70 like in the 1960AV cab. Now back to the cab. I'm running a laney gh50l and marshall dsl50 and dsl100 and I get some really good sounds. At first like most cabinets it's harsh and overarticulate sounding but after playing a few hours at high volumes the speakers smooth out as they break in. It really captures the 80's marshall metal sound. At first I didn't like the cab but after I've fed it some loud playing it sounds nice. Another thing you have to get the volume up high for this cab to sound good. I also own a 1960AX and there is a huge difference and sometimes I use both cabs on a gig. THis is a 300watt cab so to get the best sounds you really need a powerful amp running at high volumes. So this is definitely not a practice at home cabinet. The neighbors will call the police on you. At home I usually run an avatar 1x12 at 16ohms so I can get good sounds without being so loud. Now I have the best of both worlds. The classic marshall sound with the 1960AX and the more all around cabinet 1960A. Whenever I need the soaring marshall sound I go to the 1960A and whenever I need the more classic plexi sounds I look to the 1960AX. This cab definitely has an agressive sound to it and clean sounds are actually pretty good for a closed back 4x12. This cab has alot of bite to it and harmonics really seem to come out very well through this cab. My Laney has never sounded this good although the 1960AX sounds great with it. If you are into hard rock this is a great cab. For more bluesy or classic rock sounds go with a greenback loaded cab. THe 1960AV seems to be pretty popular if you are looking for a louder vintage sounding cab. One of my gripes against the 1960AX. Not very loud and it only has a 16ohm input. Now that I've covered the bases if you are using this for the right style of music and with the right kind of amp and know how to EQ an amp this cab will just about anything you ask of it. Very good sounding cab. After all marshall invented the concept of stacks.

Seems to be pretty well built. As long as you don't drop it off a 10 story building or light in on fire it will hold up. It's a cabinet. Marshall is pretty well respected in this aspect. I've owned and gigged marshall gear for years and I trust them.

I really like the sound of this cabinet. I got it pretty much so that I can have a different sounding amp in comparison to the 1960AX and also I got a pretty good deal on it at guitar center. They let me crank a dsl100 in the silent room to test it out. I'm good friends with the salesman and I got a good deal. It's just so sad what has happened to the music scene. I walk into guitar center and hear 15 year old kids playing the guitar as if it's a bass or drums. If you like bass play bass. If you like percussion play drums. I'm also sick of all these boutique makers charging 4 grand for their stuff. I've tried bogners, diezels, and soldanos and honestly I will take my laney or marshalls over them any day. I don't need 6 preamp tubes of gain to get sufficient drive. Like another reviewer stated marshalls don't let you hide mistakes. My laney is the same way. You better practice so that you don't sound like ass. Once you get your technique perfected then man what a sound. All my heroes used marshalls lynch, rhoads, malmsteen, van halen. My laney also delivers this sound and this cab helps. Sorry guys I don't need to spend 4 grand to sound good. It's player who ultimately needs to sound good. If you play like crap, you will still play and sound like crap no matter how much money you spend. That's all fellows.

I don't rate 'features' for speaker cabs.

I would like to add my opinion to the ongoing Marshall vs Mesa wars, that this cab is great and so is the Mesa Recto 4x12 cab. I think that this cab gives more distortion somehow, and the Recto cab is a more bassy (some would call it more muddy). But I have played through both cabs and I like both.

I have played through Marshall, Crate, Mesa, Peavey, and Genz Benz speaker cabs, and except for the Crate cab (which sounded okay but not great), they all sound fantastic. I think I like the Peavey 5150 cab the best though.

1960A and B cabs have what is know as a "Heavy Metal" sound. Not to be confused with the "Nu" "Mental" attempt to cover up sloppy assed shithole playing with abismally dull sounding amps and matching cabs which have vast fields of dead zones in their tonal spectrums (pronounced Rectums).

You play a bad note on a Marshall, you hear what a crappy excuse for a human you really are. In this day and age of post coital Kurt Nobrain shlock gone way wrong further down the path of tone deaf nausia the kiddies will pay HUGE dollars for a few valves thrown into whatever boutique amp happens to be in vogue at the time.

These things stay together long after the outside has gone to dust.

2 is JCM2000 TSL 100 plus 1960A cab

use either of these heads and i will guarantee that they both sound heaps better through the Boogie cab.

the marshall sounds weak, boxey, tinny, scratchy and nasally in comparison to the gorgeous sound of the rectifier 4x12 (loads more bottom chunk and better mids and gorgeous treble response{really really nice cab})

This Marshall JCM 900 1960A cabinet was made in 1995. I play what I call "American Hard Rock" (not quite "Metal" by modern standards) i.e Van Halen, Hagar, Guns and Roses, and Buckcherry. I also play classic punk ala Sex Pistols, Johnny Thunders, Stooges, Ramones and the modern punk knock-offs like Green Day and Offspring. I had heard that this cabinet loaded with G12T-75 speakers was ideal for the sound I like and I was not disappointed.

This one was used and spray-painted John Deere green with yellow handles and a big white Egyptian Eye thingee painted on the grille cloth. How's that for features?

This cabinet suits my style perfectly. This is not surprising, since this cabinet was built with the sound of my influences in mind. I play a Les Paul loaded with a Duncan JB at the bridge and a '57 Classic at the neck, through a Marshall DSL 100 head. I tried this head with my brother's Mesa Rectifier cab loaded with Vintage 30s, and it was just too "smooth" for me. I was looking for that "Skid Row, Joan Jett, "rip-your-face-off" crunch that I craved, and this cab fit the bill perfectly. I could use a tad more bass than it delivers, but it only at low volumes. At full scream, the appropriate amount of bass is there. I agree with a previous reviewer that a lot of metal guitarists these days are creeping into bass territory with the quote "modern sound".

What is surprising is that this cab sounds better for me than the Mesa cab on the clean side. More of the Fender "sparkle" than with the Vintage 30s, which is not surprising. More clarity in Jazz tones with more definition.

I don't know why Marshall insists on using plastic parts for corners, handles, etc. They crack at the corners and the "rivets" they use make it difficult to replace the hardware (probably by design). Even the Marshall logo is mounted in the weirdest possible way. I would probably be better served with an Avatar or JDesign cab but what the heck, it matches. How can you rate the reliabilty of a tolex-covered cabinet, when carpet is more road-worthy? Objectively, I give it a six. Subjectively, I buy it anyway 'cause it says "Marshall". I'm a slave to fashion.

If my rig breaks, I get pissed and throw it off the stage, then buy a new one next day. I don't call Customer Service. It isn't rational, but does anybody really think about this stuff? I'm a guitarist, not Ralph Nader.

I played so much crap gear before finally caving in and buying Marshall. I honestly thought I could get the same for less, and boy was I wrong. If someone stole it, I'd just go buy another one, regardless of cost. I've had my ass kicked too many times to go after anybody for ripping me off.

If you want to create your "own sound" with Peavey Duck Fart or Mesa Mud, then by all means, go for it. If you want to play Eddie, Jimi, Slash, Mick Mars, and Billie Joe for real, then quit wasting your valuable time and money and buy a Marshall. I did.

2002 Marshall 4x12 1960A Cab

Celestion G12T-75 Speakers, 4/16 Ohm, Mono or stereo

I use a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier 3-Channel Head (loaded with Siemen EL34's) through this cab and my main instrument of choice is my 2001 Paul Reed Smith Singlecut (I also use a 1998 Gibson Les Paul Standard for alternate tunnings). My band plays Modern Rock Originals (Creed, 3 Doors Down, Seether type stuff) This setup works amazingly well, I always have a great sound. I get good bottom end, good highs, and good mids. So don't let these jerk offs fool you, most of them don't know shit about music or their own equipment. This is truly a very well-built, nice sounding cab. I give it a 9 because there are better cabs out there, I've played through a few. But this is one of the better cabs you'll find.

I have to say one thing about Marshall, they can be very cheap about shit but their cabs are built like very, very well.

Marshall has no customer service, just a bunch of drunk English assholes giving you dumb answers. But don't worry nothing usually goes wrong with a cab unless you leave it in the rain or hit it with an axe.

I'm a young dude, been playing for about 7 years. I've been gigging since I was 14 and I've played through alot of shit. So trust me when I say this cab is well worth the money. But the best way going about buying a cab that will fit your needs is playing through as many as you can. With the exact head that you own or are planning to buy. That way there are no suprises and you know exactly what your getting. My personal favorites are the, Mesa Boogie 4x12 Recto, the Marshall 4x12 1960A & 1960B, and the Rivera 4x12 knucklehead cab. So hopfully I've helped you guys out a bit and I hope you all try alot of cabs including the ones I've listed above, GOOD LUCK!!

I bought this cab used in Dead mint condition!! It's loaded with GT12-75's...that's all I know. From the rest of the reviews here I think they have it covered pretty well from the wood and other materials.

This cab sounds really good but it's missing alittle bit of the low end beef that Vintage 30's have which the 1960b cab has but that cab lacks the high end mistique that the 1960a has.....well to solve that problem i took out 2 gt12-75's and put 2 vintage 30s in a X configuration! The Tone now is monterous!! Wow!! The perfect blend of highs and lows in a great cab! If it were just stock speakers i would give it a 8 with the new modification it's a perfect 10!!

I've been playing for 8 years and always been picky about tone......I bought a mesa recto 4x12 cab with vintage 30s and it just sounded boomy!!! and not enough crunch! The Engl 4x12 cab with vintage 30's sounded almost the same but not as boomy. I wanted to like the mesa cab but realize that it's not what i'm looking for and plus it weighs a ton!!! My poor aching back can't handle it so I sold it and so glad i did!! I bought some 2 used vintage 30's from a local seller both for 125.00 and popped them in my marshall cab and it just sounds incredible!! Marshall cabs are voice to sound great! you just have to fine tune it and you've got a killer cab!

Basically i think this is a great cab. I play out of a terrible head but compared to my last cab, this one is god. I play pretty much anything melodic and soothing to really heavy rock/punk/metal and ive never been pissed off about anything The cab performs well and it does the job.

I use a Lonestar Strat with a seymour duncan at the bridge. I get the tone i want, and the its defanitly loud enough. I only get heavy feedback when im close to the amp and my treble and mid are up, other then that, its good. The distortion i get is heavy, thick and crisp, and the clean is crisp as well, but also pretty clear

Overall, i dont think im going to replace my cab and i wont need to either. It was affordable, and it puts out the sound i want and need for my styles. And i love the fact that it has wheels, but not just wheels, but nice wheels, it rolls nicely... if it were stolen or lost, id probably invest in a Mesa/Boogie Rectifier cab only because im about to purchase a Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier head. Other then that i have no complaints and if youre looking for a cab that is capible of producing a variety of sounds with out problems, this is the cab i recommend you buy.

Simple but effective. Two speaker inputs and a toggle to use the cab as a 4/16 ohm mono cab - DON'T plug more than one lead in on mono mode otherwise you'll mess the cab up.

The overall frequency response is crisp and clear. As it's a 300w cab you can get amazing amounts of bass without fear of damaging it. As such you can get a huge ballsy rock tone out of this amp, from vintage to modern tone depending on the amp you put through it.

I personally think this cab is great for almost any kind of music, again dependant on guitars and amps. The Celestion speakers used are robust and responsive, and yeah it suits my music style down to the ground.

Built extremely well, takes the knocks okay and stands up to almost anything. Sure, on the one I use it's all dog-eared and the logo is coming off, but the cab itself is great. I also have to mention the wheels - best of any amp/cab I've found, these ones never stick or jam and make moving this heavy thing a doddle.

It's a great cab, not brilliant value for money I think but still a great addition to any electric guitar rig. I'd want another one if it were stolen. It's quite a unique cab, I like Marshall's cabs better than their amps.

Using with JCM 900 Dual Reverb head. Awesome pair. Also with a Epiphone SG special soon to be Epiphone Les Paul Custom. I use an electro-harmonix graphic fuzz as well. Very loud amp, that's about all i can say.

Been playing 6 years, don't think i'll be going back to solid state. If it were lost or stolen I'd definitley get another one. I love that it's simple and also that it's a slant cab, i've always wanted one of those. Maybe i'll get a straight 4x12 later and have a full stack. OK maybe just a 2x12 or something, Just so it's a little bit taller and cool looking.

This is a 1960A cabinet.Has 4 Celestion G12-75's ,metal castors,recessed handles,birch plywood construction,elephant tolex,stereo and mono operation,4-8-16ohm capacity.Will handle anything you throw at it and is exceptionally tight sounding.

Whatever your amp sounded like before this cabinet it will sound about 150% better through this cabinet.They are still reasonably priced and a bargain.Easy switching and a very solid build.This will do vintage to metal rock sounds.Very good sustain and no Noise.I've put a JCM 900 100w through it and cranked it and this cabinet didn't even blink -played like butter-not even near it's capacity-their rated for 300 watts.You Mesa babys better take note-your getting burned good by a bunch of hype-this is the real deal!Put a Peavey Classic 50 through it and this cabinet sang like a jewel! It expands the sound of both amps and they seem to breath their magic a lot easier.Both amps harmonics and dynamics were vastly improved throughout the sound spectrum.They both had more warmth and clarity and become more responsive to pick attack.

This is a rock solid peice of gear and I've been using it to giga couple of times a weak and it still looks as new as the day I got it but then again I take great pains to pack my gear around.

I've been playing for ever and this is one of my dream peices of gear.It is definitely a keeper and I would replace it immediately even before the insurance okayed it.I love the way it brings out the ultimate best in any amp and it will bring out any sound you ever heard on the rock side of life plus anything you can make up.I compared it to Mesa,Randall& Fender and this cabinet was way ahead of them all.

having recently been blessed with enough dollar to purchase the undisputed KING of guitar setups, (yes we all know that this is the Mesa/Boogie Dual Rec and matching 4x12) I have kept my now little used TSL100 and 1960a. The Marshall cab has come in handy for practices where i just simply dont want to take my Mesa cab (I spent a lot of hard earned on this Mesa setup #2900 in all [loads pricier in the UK] and i dont want to tear it and crap it up by lifting it out of my little fiesta and cathing it on the boot, roof, doors etc more than i have to. taking it to gigs is fine, we use the van, but just for practicing i use my dainty old Marshall cab)
This gives me the opportunity to A/B the two cabs a lot at STAGE VOLUMES and i have come to the conclusion.....
If u want a piece of crappy particle board with stock shitty celestion 75w G12 speakers that has little or no bass response and soul-less mids and an uncanilly harsh rip your face off and then stick it in a white noise generator treble response then you have found your perfect match with the MARSHALL 0 / 10
If however you have respect for your tone and your friends and neighbours and you like to hear your guitar sing and you like dollops of pure rich Bass creamy focused mids and one of the most singing treble responses around then CONGRATULATIONS, you have found THE tone that is Mesa/Boogie cabinets (and amps!!) MESA 10 / 10

It's a 1960a stereo/mono cab with four 12" Celestion G12T-75 speakers and four wheel casters.

I use the TSL100 head with it. This cabinet sounds great. No problems with the sound. No "farting out", lots of low end. Not too trebly or bright.

It seems dependable.

These are not built like Mesa, Bogner, etc. But they're also less expensive. I do think the quality needs some minor improvements. For example, I took the back off when I first bought it, and the center support was actually "stapled" to the front baffle board. That's just rediculous and inexcusable. It would have only taken two minutes and two screws to fasten it better, and indeed only took me 10 minutes to fix it. There were about a dozen tiny lock-washers stuck to the magnets on the speakers, and some were laying on the bottom of the cab's interior. If these were to get into the back of a speaker, they could cause noise and even produce enough friction to put a hole in the speaker paper. The white piping on mine is not perfectly straight, but not a big deal. The thickness of the plywood on these cabs is thinner than high-quality speaker cabs. Lastly, the back of the cabinet is made of partical board. To me that's cutting corners, but Marshall in general isn't notorious for producing the highest quality products in the world either. Overall, they're reliable, but they're made a bit on the cheap side. Then again they cost less than Mesa, Bogner, etc.

Brand new 2002 cabinet.Brings out the amp and guitar sound so there is more clearity and sustain. G12-75's so it can handle a lot of headroom.Very strong elephant skin tolex.Corners are all protected and is made from 5/8th's thick birsh plywood.

Brings the guitar sound to another level.really makes the amp walk the walk.I'm putting it through a JCM 900 With JAN PHILLIPS preamp tubes in the V-1&V-2 position.I don't know why all the kids complain so much about the sound of all the gear so much.Put some blues in those fingers and forget about the heroin and coke derived metal-thrash-grunge sound .

classic sound perfect mids, and a good full range without being all boomy and flat in the low range. i play everything. from country to metal to jazz and it all in between and it does it all.

people out there not sastisfied with the "nu-metal low end sound" from this cabinet should GET A SOUND MAN. if your amp is boomy on stage, then you are just drowing out the rest of your band. and if you use this cabinet with your head at a volume of 4 or under.. its not gonna sound right.

i've used jcm 800's, 2000's and a line6 flextone. all sounded perfect in this cab. just right for stage volume, without booming over the bass player with awful low end.

so far so good. build like a tank. people with problems with their cab as far as ruggedness mist have gotten a bad one, cuz this is my second one and both are solid.

i've been playing for 18 years. i've got a ton of gear, and gone through a lot of amps and guitars to get to where i'm satisfied with my tone. i play fender strats, les pauls, a gib sonex 180 deluxe, wolfgang, and a beater squier bullet. all sound great with this cab and most head combinations.

stolen or lost? good luck losing it. and if anybody wants to steal it, i hope they can outrun me while carrying this beast. either way i'd replace it.

final comments. i read a lot of the reviews here that spoke ill of the cabinet, especially in the 'low end range'. people who want to be boomed off the stage, or who play in their bedrooms at low volumes shouldn't write reviews for cabinets, because they obviously don't know sound. i've been a pro musician and soundtech for the last 14 years. this cabinet can do everything for just about anybody who wants to rock, if they have good people on either side of the soundboard.(with the exception of jazz.. i'd probably use something else for jazz). i do'nt rate high EVER. people who igve all 9's or 10's weren't objective enough in my opinion. but this is a good solid cab. so it gets an 8 from me.

From Iron Maiden to AC/DC - well, any rock band really. They will have a bunch of these.

In all my years gigging I have never had one of these break on me. Had beer spilled on them, drum stands put through the front...no worries.

Marshall (UK) at least are always very helpfull.

Solidly built 4x12. It's an industry standard and it does all I need it to do. So I give it a 10. I don't expect the cab to have any features.

Great, solid, rock guitar cab. Paired with a tube marshall head and it's tone heaven for me. I play out alot and this cab has never failed me. I've had many other 4x12's... value priced ones, we shall say... Peavey, Ampeg... and they just don't compare. I would recommend this cab to anyone. I'm not sure about the similiar marshall 4x12's, with different speakers. This is the lowest priced of their "real" cabs (I wouldn't think about buying some valvestate or AVT cab for my nice tube head - no way!), but I was hooked after playing it, so I had no need to try the more expensive ones.

Used it lots. Tons of gigs, many road trips, long practices, never craps out on me. I use it without a backup (but when I save up enough for a second 1960A for my FULL STACK(!!!), I guess I'll have a backup then!)

Highest recommendation on a great cab. $300 for such a nicely built, great sounding cab is an incredible value. Don't waste your time on cheap 4x12's,or you'll regret it. Scope out a good deal (like I did!) and you'll be happy you did.

Hey, it's a cabinet, what do you want it to do? You can run it at 4, 8, or 16 ohms, you can run it stereo at 8 ohms. That's enough for me.

I have a few different guitars, every one's got a humbucker at the bridge. Got a frankenstein with a screamin demon, an epiphone les paul standard, and a strat rip off with some super hot origin unknown bridge pick up. I use a Peavey Classic 50 head, and sometimes a J-station for the pre amp.
This cabinet doesn't get muddy and garbled very easy. Running it with the Peavey classic 50 on top i can get some pretty decent clean sounds with the single coils on my strat rip off, and some downright gorgeous open chords with the L.P. on the neck position. The cabinet takes the sound the head gives it and does it justice. I'll play some reggae and shit like that andit sounds good. Being a closed back cabinet it's not going to be the greatest clean sound you've ever heard, but if you know how to work your head or combo right, you'd be suprised how sweet some of the sounds you pull out are.
Cranking up the Peavey and switching it over to the lead channel is where you can tell this cabinets power. It just rips at shit like this, no mud just the good sounds you're head is sending to it<if you got a decent head>. i can get raw rock and roll, good blues sounds and everything. The peavey alone doesn't do any metal so i gotta hook up the j-station to do that, and even when the level of gain is fucking ridiculous the cabinet still holds it's definition, even at deafening volumes.
Once i ran my peavey classic and an Evh 5150 in stereo through this cabinet and the sound was just insane. I mean make your balls retract into your body loud, and thiscabinet took it for a ll it was worth and then some. This cabinet is great.
Jammed on it in my bedroom, in a few practice spaces and on stage with a metal band and a punk band and it never let me down soundwise.

Took it on tour, played tons of shows in town and shows out of town for one or two nights. It's been thrown around, abused, puked on, kicked. aken spilled beers like a champion. I even dropped this fucker out the back of my girls jeep going about 35-40 mph and it still works fine( I didn't do it on purpose asshole). The only problem i see with it is the grill cloth, we all know how those things are. What else can you ask for thogh? Seriously this thing fell out of a moving vehicle and didn't miss a beat, just got a few batle scars like it's owner. I only give it a 9 cause of the grill cloth. If someone was being vindictive or if you fell just the right way you could take out a speaker.

Never had to use them, but it's a cabinet, it's not the most complicated thing in the world to fix if you have to. It's sure as hell not that damn tube head that has to get worked on every six months.

I'm 22, I've been playing since i was 11, always wanted a Marshall 1/2 stack, getting pretty close now. The real raw crunch is the sound i want and this cabinet gives you what you put into it. If someone stole it, I'd find them and gut them. Then i'd take my cabinet back because it's mine, and it's the one i want. If you get one and you don't like it, you probably can't play, or don't play music that a Marshall is good for and that's rock. It's no Fender, it's no Vox, it's no Mesa, and that's why people like me love them. Just a badass tough cabinet that will probably hang in there for longer than you will. Well most of it will those cheap plastic corners will be gone soon, and the handles might break eventully... and the casters too. The cabinet and speakers will still be there singing though, and whats an amp without some battle scars. Just in case you couldn't tell from this review I'm probably a lot rougher on my stuff than you are.

This is the REAL Marshall 4x12 stereo slant (not a knockoff 4x12 made by some wannabe company trying to ride on Marshall's apron strings). If you're looking for the "Marshall sound", this is one of the components that'll get you where you want to be.

I bought mine in 1995. This is a great sounding cabinet; it has all the "spank" and bottom I want. The secret to getting the best sound out of this cabinet is : 1. use a good amp; 2. play a good, in-tune guitar; 3. be a decent player. As the story goes, a great player can make a Squire guitar and a Crate amp sound DAMN good; a mediocre player can make a 53 gold top running through a vintage Plexi or Twin sound like crap. For the new kids trying to learn the ropes - want more bottom out of this cabinet? Unscrew the casters and set it on the floor so the cabinet can acoustically couple to the building. Want even more bottom? Put it near the corner of the stage or room. Still doesn't sound the way you imagined it would, and you're using a good amp and guitar, and you know how to play? This speaker was designed to project sound out WAY front... if you stand right in front of the speaker, you're not hearing what your audience is hearing. Plug in a wireless and walk out in front during your sound check to hear what you really sound like through this genuine rock icon.

This is an incredibly well-built speaker cabinet. If you're serious about your music and want to keep your gear in one piece, get an ATA case built for your heads and cabs. I've had mine thrown around by airline monkeys and union goons, and it still looks new because of the flight cases.

I've never had to call Marshall Customer Support; I bought the best for my brand of playing, and I take care of it so it can take care of me.

I've been playing guitar 38 years now; I've traveled all over north America with a number of bands; I play Fender and Gibson guitars, through Fender and Marshall amps. I chose the Marshall 1960A to go with my 1992 JCM 900 2500 50 watt super lead III because it was a perfect match. If you want to be taken seriously, you have to have serious chops, and serious (and dependable) gear. The Marshall 1960A is serious (and dependable) gear. Period.

I bought a 2002 Marshall 1960A cabinet. Like everyone said... Celestion 75W, 300W Stereo (150 /chan.).

I use a Gibson Les Paul Studio and I combine the cabinet with a Marshall Valvestate 8200 (100w) head. It's a good combination for the price and it's ok for the music i'm playing (punk-rock). It handles the brutal distortion of my Valvestate but the clean sound is a bit dramatic... well not too good.

No problem with thoses cabs... I think Marshall has a good reputation ! No customer service but good reputation !!!

I had to take a decision when I bought this cab... Go on with Marshall and enjoy the sound of a good distortion that came with the Valvestate and have a good value if I want to sell it one day or get a MesaBoogie kit. Sure Mesa cabs are ahead Marshall (heavier, and larger dimensions). But for the money, I got a better deal with a very cool sound from Marshall instead of paying 1,200$ CAN for the cab and 2,500$ CAN for the Triple Rectifier head ! Is it worth the price ? And it was cool to change my tube for the first time and learnt it costs 25$ CAN instead of 300$ CAN for a Mesa tubes kit !!!!

it is definately not the rest of my setup considering that i use an ibanez jem 7dbk, and american fender deluxe fat strat.
firstly i would like to say that marshall cabs are very limited in what sounds they can produce. Sure everyone says "yeah 300w 4x12 etc."
But im sorry this cab is a wooly pile. if you are in the market for a good 4x12 then go look at mesa who im sure make some of the best cabs around.
if you like your guitar to fart out and you like your cab to be woofy then go for it but otherwise dont.

I'm using this through a parker P44 w/pearly gates neck humbucker, into a Peavey 5150 II, and the sound is awesome. I must admit like one other user said, there is a "dead zone" with this cab. Its about 5 ft out that everything gets harsh, trebly and loses tone. From the audience point of view the cab sounds great, its just this one zone. It has G12T 75 watt Celestions, of course its gonna sound great. Honestly, if a cab has good speakers and is made of good matterials (wood) its gonna sound good. The size of the cabinet changes the tone of the cabinet as well. There's not too much difference between cabinets, other than that. Its great, not TOO heavy, and includes casters, (mine did)

I bought this cabinet because it was convinient. I like how it sounds, i play mostly heavy stuff with my band. I use this cabinet with my peavey for the dirt and grind. I use a seperate amp for cleans cause peavey has the dirtiest cleans ever. I can't stand when people rate marshall products on their ability to produce marshall tone, not wether they sound good or not. this WILL get you plenty of tone if you have a TSL. Marshall amps suck other than the expensive ones. I want to end this review with one thing. Its a big box of cones! just check the quality of the speakers and you can't really go wrong with any cabinet!

sound great, i own 3 of these bad boys,2 JCM900'S (1 SLANT,1STRAIGHT)AND A JCM800 1960A and they've never failed me yet

sounds great with just about any combination of equipment, I've used 800's, plexi's,etc. and all sound good

the tolex and grill clothe on these really suck. i have mine in road cases for that reason alone even the cheap plastic handles chip off easily

I've played about 250 gigs on these and they hold up well not user friendly unless you have roadies, whom I've been very blessed to have. overall rocks!

4x12... Celestion gt75s. Basic Marshall midline cabinet. Nice looking. Like the casters, and handle. Not too heavy. Very switchable.

I own a Peavey Triple XXX, and have been researching cabs for some time now. I've used a new 1960A, a 5150, an Egnater, a Carvin 2x12, a Crate 1x12, and Peavey MTS 4x12. All these new except the Peavey 5150 sucked really bad... but... I just used a two year old 1960A all broken in, and i just about died. It sounded so good, I couldn't believe my ears. I usually use an EQ pedal through the EFX loop, but I don't think I'll even need it with this.

good ol' 9 for ya... Buy one, and use it often. It'll break in, and you'll be extremely pleased.

Pretty simple 4 x 12 cabinet. Mono or stereo operation. I purchased this brand new to replace a 1980's Marshall Cab that just got too "loose" with the sound. I replaced the speakers in the old cab but it was still loose so I broke down and purchased the new 4 x 12.

I just recently purchased a new JCM2000TSL 100 (see additional review) but I also have a Marshall JCM800 that I used with my old cabinet. This sound of this cabinet is much tighter, but I do have one huge quirk. Playing through both the JCM2000 and the JCM800, there is a "danger zone" about 8 to 12 feet in front of the amp. This "danger zone" is the worlds worst high end-take-your-head off toneless zone. No matter how I EQ the amps if I step out that far it just hurts. It'll sound great right up in front of the amp and it sounds great in terms of projection to the rest of the club, but this zone I just don't understand. At first I thought it was the new TSL that I didn't know how to EQ, but I hooked up my JCM800 that I've been playing for almost 20 years and I have the same thing. I dont know, I give it a seven for that. Next time I'll purchase a handbuilt cabinet such as a Bogner, Soldano, or Mako.

Well, I played my last one for 20 years and I got more than my money's worth. I'd say this one is similar in construction but the old adage is true "they don't build them like they used to".

I've been playing Marshalls for 20 years and have never had one iota of a problem. I take care of my cars, my gear, and my wife, I don't know how some people can bitch.

I play Les Pauls strictly through Marshalls. I used to think there was nothing better. Although this cab kicks the piss out of the Peavey and Crate cabs (yeah don't laugh, I tried everything!) I think that Marshall has fallen behind because some people have decided to build better. I give it a 7 because it started it all, but there are cabs on the market that are made of better components but are more expensive.

slant marshall ho-hun cab.stock and basic as a cab gets. oh yeah, the casters are a joke compared to mesa's casters on the recto-cab. And the handles rattle.cheap construction, but whatever... i guess tradition is traddition.

sounded really great at a median volume with my 5150. i ran a BBE sonic maximizer in the loop which gave the lows and high amazing character in clean and distortion modes.
but in the end I left it for a mesa recto cab. Its the same song and dance you've heard up and down this page, THIS CAB WOOFS OUT SERVERLY WHEN YOU CRANK THE LOW END!. other than that it was sparkling at lower volumes.

sucks. I ripped the grill cloth putting it in the van in the parking lot of the music store right after i bought it. I was parnoid ever since and for good reason. the grill cloth and upolstery are totaly disposable. I've wiped with toilet paper that held up better.

Honestly now that im not giging out anymore and I dont have to rock such huge volumes to compete with loud drummer, I would love to go back to one. It has its pro's and cons,Its built like crap and doesnt stand the test of a tour, but i think this cab was a key ingredient in my dream-sound that i miss.
somtimes if it sounds good, thats all that matters. even if the recto-cab is built better.

I ordered and bought this in Jan. 2002. I asked the dealer here for a brand new one still in the box and he got it for me. This is the best amp cabinet made in my opinion! It can be run in stereo or mono, 4,8,or 16 ohms, etc. It also has the best giitar speakers ever made too, the G12T-75w. This is the real thing people. Right now I'm playing this amp with a Marshall TSL 60 head. This may be the best amp/cab(s) combination ever made!

I have five electrics and all except one has DiMarzios on them. The other guitar has an EMG-81 and they all sound great with this cabinet. It suits my music to a T. I play rock and metal and even a little thrash and this cab covers it all. It does not muddy up. It sounds good at low volumes but I think it sounds better cranked. I get all kinds of harmonics, sustain, crunch, you name it. I hope Marshall always makes the 1960 with these G12T-75w speakers. Because they're simply the best. I may buy a 1960B just so I can set the A up to where I can hear it better. If you like high gain like me, this is probably your cab.

Well it's a Marshall. And it feels very solid. It's birch plywood. It's also very heavy. And it should to be, to help it sound better.

They've been very friendly via email when I've had questions. Hopefully, I won't ever need their help for this product.

I've been playing for twenty-five years, and I've always wanted one of these. This is the best cabinet made and I'm so glad I have one. Sure I'd buy another. Thank you Jim Marshall. Thank you Celestion. Keep up the good work guys.
