An 8 only because it doesn't have stereo, or Ohm switching capability. Otherwise, it's got everything else you need, plus it's a Marshall so you know it can take a beating. I traded a Marshall JCM600 head, and 4x10 cabinet for this 1960bc 4x12 cab. It had only 2 25 watt, 16 Ohm Greenbacks in it, and one funky Vox 4 ohm speaker. I had to buy 2 more Greenbacks. I only paid $300 for the JCM600 head/cab, and it cost me another $150 for the new Greenbacks. So it wasn't the deal off the century, but I rarely see the 1960 BC/AC cabinets, if ever, and when I do they're usually around $650 used, and up to $900 new. So again, I was out of pocket about $450, which is about right. No regrets! I love this cab!

Sound wise, it's got to be one of the warmest, sweetest amps I've ever had the pleasure or owning/playing through, and it has amazing clarity, even when I use the Ultra Gain channel on my JCM2000 DSL100 head, with the gain on 7 or more, I can still hear individual string being picked, even through a sustaining power chord strum. Nice. The bottom end is earth shaking, the high's cut through, even on the darkest depths of distorted mayhem. The cleans with the aforementioned head, rival a Fender Twin on one setting, and a warm Mesa on the other. When driven, this cab will knock things off the wall, and make the hair on my arms literally blow, all while retaining clarity, and punch, and all without any rattles or "snaps" coming from the cabinet itself.

I lump Marshall cabs in the same group as Boss Pedals when it comes to reliability. I've seen Marshall cabs that looked like they were dragged behind a semi, uphill, on a gravel mountain road, and they still sound great.

Never had to use them.

Overall, if it were stolen, I'd run right out and get another one. My dream setup would be a Marshall 4x12 with greenbacks, and one with the Clestion Blues. Of course, it might be while!

the 1960AC 4x12 cabinet is brand new. i got a great deal on it at Guitar Exchange in St Charles, Mo.
I play mostly rock-n-roll, but that doesnt matter. i get the sound i hear in my head from this cabinet.
its a basic 16ohm 4x12 cabinet with the 'greenback' 25-watt speakers.
it has the black vinyl covering and black grillcloth.
i wouldnt call it versatile. not many features. what else will a speaker do?
it whou be nice to be able to switch it to 8-Ohms, but that might endanger the low-wattage speakers.

all my guitars sound great with this cabinet.
and all my different amps sound their very best through this cabinet.
tele, les paul, strat, a couple guilds. they all sound great.
the funny thing ive noticed about this cabinet is that i like the way it sounds WITHOUT reverb. it has a great dry sound.

i dont know about the dependability yet. just got it.
it seems well-built.
UPS beat the devil out of it when they shipped it. i was fit to be tied when it arrived-dented and torn. im meeting with the claims inspector tomorrow.
