2006 4x12 cab with checkerfront grille, really cool looks, 4x g12m Celestion greenback speakers. mono input, Medium Marshall logo.

Sound Quality : 9
This cab really, really rocks,
Im using a 72, 50w metal panel Marshall amp with no mods, a simple distortion with true bypass and Strats,

If you think Micheal Schenker, U.F.O, EVH [yes, he's a greenback fan] Yngwie, Blackmoore, Page, Clapton tones, then Ill almost guarantee youll be happy with this cab, it sounds great with old Marshall amps, I honestly havent tried anything else through it because I simply never play anything other than Marshall's.

The cab sounds a bit crappy clean, not bad but you know it could be better [my old cab with 60w speakers sounded great clean]
Overdriving your amp with a pedal yields AMAZING tone! just perfect, notes are big, high end is slightly rolled off, all notes in a chord ring together well, and the speakers have a great "woodiness" about them, I dont know how else to describe it.. its perfect for both rythm and lead.

If youre into really really heavy stuff then there are better choices but Im a rocker and like my distortion levels to be around.. 70's Judas Priest style, I dont really overdrive the preamp section a great deal, just add distortion to taste, the other thing I like about the cab is its ability to run really quiet and still sound great, I play loud often and it sounds even better.
Dont get me wrong, Ive played with lots of overdrive a few times and was amazed how well the cabinet responded, it can get very heavy.

Reliability : 8
It uses clips, Id prefer the wires to be soldered so they dont come off and fry your output transformer..

Ive been playing for 30 years and perform for a living,
If it went missing, Id buy another replacement, its that good.
I love the look, the durability, the good casters, the Marshall rubber strip for your top and the great tone, I just dont like the clean sound is all.
I compared it to the 1960a/ av/ ac/ 425 vintage modern [I prefer the VM 425 with the Jimi Celestion 25's, it sounded even better but I just couldnt deal with my black top on a purple box, plus the 425 looked really plain and boring] geez Im a fussy bastard.. ;]
Youre kidding yourself if you dont buy this cab, now scram!

2006 1960AX Cab.
just one input, 16 ohms

Sound Quality : 5
I really love the look of these cabs.
I bought my amp along to give it a whirl [Marshall 1987x]
I really love my tone, 87x-MI Audio Crunch Box Distortion-Boss DD3-Crybaby GCB95-TU2-RF1 Reverb-Trace Elliott 4x12 cab and a standard US Strat.

Being a bit of a gearhead Im always trying to better my tone.

The sound was unmistakably vintage, bright and boring sounding.
The cab felt as if it were working against me, generally hard to play, lacked headroom, my amp was cranked as usual except it would normally sound good when full up..

Im sticking with my old Trace because it sounds good.

Reliability : 8
I hear these cabs arent that hard to blow up when driven too hard.

Marshall Australia [Electric Factory] are terrible.
Yamaha was better for spare parts when they were the Aussie distributor.

Being a Marshall dealer, Im really sick of Australias "support"

I love Marshall amps but feel guilty selling them because I know first hand, time after time that getting any sort of spare part will take around 6 months, sometimes longer, warranty or no warranty.

Most other companies are great, especially Fender, I love those guys.
Marshall cant seem to get their act together though and thats very dissapointing to me, I dont want to see Marshalls name go down the drain any more than it already has.

Ive been playig for about 20 years,
like to play hard rock, play in a cover band a few nights a week and work in my music store by day.
I didnt like anything but the look of this cabinet.

I have an original 1971. the re-issues are quite good. they hold up in the pepsi challenge IMO against the originals in live situations.

I'd give this a 11 if I could.

I noticed some peole giving these bad marks....they also mentioned DSLs, TSLs, and Crates........ if you are useing a a POS amp that sounds like modern gain in a can, this amp doesn't work....because you can 't polish a turd!!!!!

these brake up earler the hi watt speakers..just wonderful

Reliability : 10
built like rock. don't run a 100 watt head through a single one of these.

Single 16 Ohm input, with four 25 watt greenback speakers. Old school basket weave grille cloth with white piping. Just a stock Marshall 1960AX. Its a cabinet and has some of the best speakers ever made in it.

Sound Quality : 9
my main stage guitars are a 1981 Gibson Les Paul custom that is stock, and a Reissue Jazzmaster with a Seymour Duncan quarter pounder in the bridge. When I first got this cab I was using it with a 1969 all tube Sunn Model T with a boss metal zone in front for distortion. The high wattage head at a decent volume gave me the warmest, thickest, creamiest distortion I have ever heard from this cabinet. I also have a JCM 900, which sounds ferocious through this cab.

People ridicule this amp for not having any bass. I played my JCM 900 through both the 1960AX and a regular straight front 1960B at the same time. And the 1960AX has such a higher quality sound coming from it. The clean is very warm and bluesy and the dirty channels are warm and full. But no death metal distortion that's for sure.

Reliability : 10
have been playing about 3 shows a week for the past 2 years and it has never failed me. The casters still roll perfect after much abuse. People bitch about tolex rips. Well, what did you expect? Its a big piece of equipment and its bound to take a few nicks. You should embrace the fact that it will wear down. Just like a reliced guitar, a beat up cab has a 1,000 stories behind it. I have never had a problem with the internal compnents.

Customer Support : 10
Marshall's customer service responds very quickly. They will answer any questions you can send their way. Iv'e never had to send anything in or order a part though.

Overall Rating : 10
Ive been playing in a punk band now for 3 years. We play about 5-10 shows a month and It has always worked, and always sounds excellent. I bought this used and got the deal of a lifetime on it. I only wish it was a straight front version, just because I think they look better. If it was ever stolen I would find who stole it and castrate them. Yes, I love this cab that much.

been playing a very long time.
ok the big question for many -does it compare to the originals
ive had both and yes the originals are softer slightly sweeter and the plywood back made it sound woodier in the 60s till they changed the back to particle board in the early 70s
but these are corect and acurate remakes of early 1970s marshall cabs the only diference being some hardware.
these are the same just new. with time the speakers will break in the wood will age and thell be the same old dogs people are trying to get 2k plus for but heres a thought all the tunes that made these famous were recorded when the old dogs were new and when they were new they sounded just like these re issues.
some folks have said the ax and bx sound much better then the 900 or 2000 marshall cabs.....yes your right with out a doubt

03 Model. Not very versatile. But has a beautiful Clean and mild overdriven sound. Looks incredible. One input. Its a CAB!

I mainly use a Gibson LP with an EMG 81 bridge and 85 neck through a Mesa Boogie Mark IV short head. At home I play blues and hendrix. But in my band I play Hardcore in the style of N.I.V. and Hatebreed. At home I was in love with this amp. It made my frozen EMG's have some warmth in the clean channel with a Fender like sparkle. The crunch channel sounded really cool too. I decided to wait until later to try the lead channel because I was meeting up with my drummer later on. That proved to be a big mistake. The sound was so harsh that I couldn't stand it. But it was only harsh win I used quick palm-muted riffs. Which I play 50% of the time. The truth is that this cab looked so nice that I had to get it. I should have tried it in the store. It sounds like I would give this cab a low rating but it is a great cab. I will buy one day but right now I'll stick with V-30's. I need a very fast bass response. Oh and I'm not some NU-METAL punk who only Knows how to play power chords. I have learned nearly every note to every Hendrix song I've heard. (even the live versions) I keep my guitar tuned normal maybe down a half step but no lower. So I know what I'm talking about. All in all, for blues and classic rock I give this cab a 10. For FAStPalm muted riffs I give it a 1/2. But that may be do to the cold nature of the EMG's. All I know is it made Rhy 1 and Ryh 2 on my Mark IV sound great. And made the lead channel sound worse then my 99$ fender solidstate P.O.S. 15 watter. Bottom line is try it out with your head and guitar and judge for yourself.

Tolex tore on the sides during the ride home from the shop. Plastic Handles. But it doesn't affect the performance so still no opinion.

Been playing for 4-5 years professionally. Also own a crate GFX 120 head and old ampeg 4X12. And a strat so on and so on. Owned a DSL 50, 3 words, PIECE OF CRAP. But then again I didn't own this cab at the time. I will buy it again, after I get a warmer guitar so that It will be complete, EMG's just don't cut it. It doesn't fit my main style but its definitley on my to-buy list. I have too much of a split opinion to rate it. by the way, I'm not a Mesa lover or a Marshall lover. so this review is fair and balanced.

Like others have said--it's a cabinet. Single 16 ohm input. Uhhm, it's got wheels.
Visually, it is much more striking than the 1960A, AV, or the 1960AC, which I beleive has the same speakers, but in a plain cab.

Sound Quality : 9
I am using this cab with a Marshall JCM2000 TSL60. This cab matches up PERFECTLY with this amp. I was temporarily using a Marshall 1936 2x12 cab with the 75w GT12 Celestions. the 1936 was brittle and woofy. Lots of thump, but very loose-sounding. After switching to the 1960AX, the sound was there. Focused, tight low end, excellent defintion. Don't be misled by those who insinuate that the AX isn't ballsy--it is, it just isn't absolutely thunderous. This works well in my situation, being in a 2-guitar lineup with occasional acoustic added in. The 'greenback' speakers provide the exact sound I was looking for, that AC/DC Back in Black sound, but just a little more driven.

I play mostly rock-alternative. The clean is nice too, especially if you want that little bit of breakup at higher volumes. Great for bluesy clean comping. My guitars are G&L Legacy models, one is modded with SD Rails pickups.

Through this rig, I sound the best I ever have. My tone is finally catching up with my fingers. Played a friend's Les Paul Studio through it, and it sounded wonderful. I give the sound quality an 9 because EVERYONE loves their gear when they first get it, and the temptation to put a 10 is great. I love the cab.

Reliability : 8
Points off on reliability because the cab was in the back of my car and got bumped around a very little bit on the way over to the rehearsal studio to be played for the first time. I get it out of the car, and there's a big tear in the damn Tolex on the rear corner already! AAARRGH! Oh well, had to happen sometime, at least I got it out of the way quickly. Lousy stinking Tolex. Other than that, I expect the cab to last for years. Solid construction.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't had to deal with them yet.

Overall Rating : 9
Overall, I think it's a great buy. Much thanks to ALL of the other user reviews on Harmony Central. These reviews, coupled with several music store visits helped me greatly with the purchase. If it disappeared, I'd definitely replace it, though I would have to consider the 1960TV as well.

Brand New from guitar center- 2003 YEAH! 4 25w Greenbacks.
16ohms mono.

Sound Quality : 10
Uhh, ok im gonna be honest. By itself, this cab is not the greatest if you play loud punk rock. I was actually about to bring this back. Before I did I hooked My Mesa Triple Rectifier (sweet ass amp) with my Marshall AX, my Mesa 412 and my 2 Mesa 212's. Damn, the mix between Vintage 30's and Greenbacks was PERFECT. When hooked up with other cabs this thing kicks ASS. TRUST ME.

Vintage covering(tolex??),Grey checkered grill,1 mono input 16ohm,small Marshall logo.I have absolutly no use for a stereo cab so thats nota factor. The only down fall to this cab is it lacks cab corners, after 4yrs of giging the edges are just starting to peel.

Sound Quality : 9
Best cab ever made,my fatherhas two Original 1968 greenback cabs and I have the reissue(1998-9).The originals havea slightly smoother sound which I'm gonna guess is there age showing(weakened magnets, aged wood etc...)Thsi cab is perfect for any type of rock I run a JCM00 SL-X or a JCM800 2204 and both sound supurb. Can get anthing from Santana to Skynard to Hendrix to Iron Maiden to Deep Purple etc..Perfect for any classic rock, southern rock, hard rock and metal(maiden, preist quiet riot etc..)You won't get a Fender sound out of it but, what areyou doing looking for a fender amp sound from a marshall amp??lolHas that real Marshall bark midrange, will sweeten leads and give a sweet growl to power chords.Higher wattage cabs have too tight a sound its all preamp. You won't get a Mesa Boogie chunkysound from it but to me sounds like crap anyway.

Reliability : 10
As long as you don't crank a 100W head into one cab it'll lasta lifetime.Run a 50W head with one cab or two cabs with a 100W head.

Customer Support : No Opinion
They were good when I called for a schematic for my head so I suppose they would be good

Overall Rating : 9
This is the cab any lead guitarist should have if they like a natural tube overdrive sound.Higher wattagecabs sound a little bottom heavy and tight and don't break up,without breakup you get a fake preamp distortion, which is a little buzzy to me.
