My cab is like many others described here:
280W handling power
16 or 4 Ohm mono
8 Ohm stereo
70W Vintage 30-like speakers (Don't be fooled, they are NOT Vintage 30's, which are 60W speakers. These are very similar but voiced differently for Marshall. When you're a big brand like Marshall, you can get Celestion to change one of their speakers and sell exclusively to you)
Recessed handles
Tough black tolex covering
No casters (I hate those things anyway. I want my cab flat on the ground so it can shake the floor)

I use this cab with a Marshall JCM2000 DSL100 amp with Groove Tube EL34's and JJ ECC83's. My guitar is a Gibson SG Special (tuned to E standard and occasionally dropped D) with a Tom Anderson H1+ in the neck position and a Tom Anderson HN3+ in the bridge. I only pedal I use is a Digitech Bad Monkey. I keep the gain on zero and the volume full blast. This makes a nice affordable volume boost that really gets those tubes cooking.
Other bands/guitarists that I think have stellar tone are Zakk Wylde (Ozzy, Black Label Society), Pepper Keenan (Corrosion of Conformity, Down), John Petrucci (Dream Theater, especially the 'Train of Thought' album), and Killswitch Engage's live tracks when they were using Framus Cobras. These guitarists heavily influence what I consider good tone.
That being said, I'm very happy with my Marshall cab. When my amp is in overdrive, the tone from this thing is just huge, thick, complex, saturated... I can't think of enough words to describe it. I can back off the volume (and hence lessen the distortion) and get great blues sounds from it. I can use the Classic Lead channel of my DSL and get really nice clean sounds out of it as well.
For a long time I had owned a Park 4x12 cabinet that had Celestion 35W G12L's. I was happy with that cab until I plugged my rig into this one. Night and day difference. This cab really opened my sound up.
I should point out that I use the cab on the 16 Ohm stereo setting. I tried the other settings for comparison. The 4 Ohm setting sounded really harsh and thin. I was shocked at how much a difference it made. I even tried plugging it into one side when in 8 Ohm stereo, but of course that sounded bad. I didn't expect that to be good since it leaves two of the speakers dead. I wonder if the higher resistance setting forces the amp to work harder to get the same volume, hence it pushes the tubes into a higher level of saturation...
I'm giving it a 9 because I could plug into another cab one day, and have the same feeling that I experienced when I tried this one verses my Park cab.

I've had this cab for about a year now and I've had no issues. I don't travel much with it, so my opinion may not be worth much. I've opened the cab once, and I'm a little concerned about the relatively small gauge of the wiring. This isn't something that should be skimped out on in high wattage configurations.
It's tolex covering is some of the toughest I've seen on cabs, but it'll certainly tear if you aren't careful with it. I'm sure you could kick a hole in the grill cloth, too. But this cab is on par with every other tolex-covered, cloth-grilled cab.
The handles are plastic, but they seem like they'll hold up against time. They're certainly more comfortable than some of the metal handles other cabs have.

I've been playing bass for almost 10 years and guitar for over 4 years. Low income prevents me from having much other gear. So I try to own one great guitar, one great amp, and one great cab. I don't need more than that. For the money, this cab was a steal and I'd buy another at this price. I certainly wouldn't pay the brand-new price for one of these. I'd get one of the boutique brand cabs like Orange or Bogner if I was going to spend close to a grand.
I have to warn you that it has an enormous weight. Of course, any legit 4x12 cab with V30's will weigh this much. It is notably heavier than the aforementioned Park cab. This is why I would like to get a 2x12 that I could tote around much easier.
The only thing I wish was different that actually could be different is the black grill cloth. It would look way cooler with a checkered or wheat grill cloth. It's a 'Vintage' cab, and it should look vintage. But this is purely cosmetic, and my music allowance does not allow me to be vain.
I am not currently a member of a band, but I was in a metal band (similar to Killswitch Engage or Shadows Fall in sound) when I had my Park cab. I only wish I had this Marshall cab then. She deserves to be entertaining the masses (yeah, like masses come out for heavy metal bands in Alabama...)
If you can find one of these under $500, then you've found a fantastic value. Don't let it pass you up.

This cab is suited for almost all types of music, cleans really shine through this and distortion is has real punch and warmth to it, no matter what amp u play through it. I use a Marshall MG100HDFX with this and the 1960AV and ive gotta tell ya, for a Cheap solid state amp these cabs really do it justice. Tone is oozing from it and has a more "even" output compared to say the greenbacks used in the 1960AC, the sound seems to be spread out evenly compared to the greenbacks where the sounds seams to be only properly represented at the very front of the cab. This Really punches through the mix at any levels. NOTE....for everyone who is thinking about buying this cab, get an amp that will do it justice, crap amp/great cab = poor sound and vice versa, spend the extra money on a good amp to go with it.

Very solid construction that is the marshall trademark. Would take alot to break but would never gig without a backup, no matter what it is as accidents do happen sadly. Only thing that is a drawback with most cabs is the grill cloth, easily torn. Krank are certainly superior with the steel front grill. But nonetheless, a kick ass cab.

Superb quality sound. Very good match for marshall heads, perfectly suited for the MG100HDFX, but these cabs truly shine when used with the JCM800 or JCM2000 series. Ive tried the AVT100 through this cab but wasnt as impressed with the sound as much as the MG100HDFX. But for anyone that is buying equipment, try before you buy. Everone has difference of opinion. Personal taste is what counts. These cabs stand well against the pricey MESA and KRANK cabs. The mesa is more bassy and less mids, whereas the 1960BV has less bass with more mids. The Krank cab seems to be more of a challenge, the 1960BV strugles in comparison to that, tonality and clarity is Superb on both but the Krank pulls through in 1st. Overall, for ??365GBP compared to 900 for the MESA and the KRANK it is SUPERB. Highly reccomended.

Well, this is the first Marshall cabinet that I've owned so I can't fairly compare it to other Marshall cabs. I bought it to use with my DSL 50 head. I'd been using the 50 with a 1X12 cabinet that I made but was never totally happy with the amps tone. (Gee, I wonder why?). As soon as I first heard the BV with my amp everything just fell into place. My God but what a sound! This is truly the other half of the Marshall experience. In order to get the true, whole Marshall sound you've GOT to use a 4X12 cabinet with whatever Marshall head suits your fancy.
For the first time in ages nothing sounded like it was lacking. Bass, mids and highs all have thier own identity but yet they all come out as one. And that DEPTH to the sound. Not depth as in bass response but rather that elusive "3D" character to the sound where you feel like you could reach inside of it. I don't know how much of this design was planned or accident, but I can see now why so many players throughout the years use a Marshall 4X12. And of course the louder you play your amp the better it all sounds. It's amazing what this cabinet/speakers can take.

Sure seems well built to me. Throughout the years I've seen many a Marshall cabinet that looks like it's been hell and back and still performs without a hitch. I've yet to open it up and look around, but I don't hear any buzzes or rattles from within.

I'm no pro, just an older guy who's an at home player. Been playing for about 8 years and while I'm not great I feel like I'm starting to make a "decent noise" if you will. Always loved the Marshall tone so I figured why not? My son is grown up and moved out, I'm also divorced so there's no one there going "WILL YOU TURN THAT DOWN AND ACT YOUR AGE!!!" What? Get fat and rot in front of the TV like most guys my age? I think not! Anyway, the 1960 BV is a great sounding cabinet. This is also my first encounter with the Vintage 30 soeakers and I am impressed with thier sound. I would recommend though if you can find one used do so. I can't believe how much a new Marshall cab is selling for these days! The deals are out there so start looking!

I already have the 1960 AV cabinet so to complete my Full Marshall
Stack with JCM 2000 DSL 50 watt head I picked up the 1960 BV.
These cabs are great for the price. You can pay more for something
else but if your going Marshall go for the Vingtage 30's.
Lou can't go wrong with this cabinet.

The other guitarist just bought one of these but its at my house and i have done enough testing to rate it. I use a mesa 4x12 recto and i must say it is far superior, sound and quality but i will get to that later. As far as features its a cab, it has all the inputs you need, but the wheels are far smaller than mesa ones and are alot harder to push, not the end of the world. The handles are also only plastic compare to mesas metal ones. Basically it is a cheaper quality cab, but then again i paid nearly twice as much for my boogie so i would expect that. The boogie is better, but if you cant aford one this will definately do the job.

I play heavy metal, metallica style and i use an esp300 with emg81s to an adamp-1 to mesa strategy 400 to recto 4x12, but i have played many times through this with the marshall cab too to compare. As far as sound this cab doesnt have the big bottom end of the mesa, you cant get the same heavy thundering sound but if you have a bass player in your band, or actually play guitar, not guitar that sounds like a bass too, then you should be fine. It is just alot more trebly than the boogie especially when its cranked, but you can still get an awesome sound out of it. i just turn the bass up more than i usually would and the treble abit down and the mix is good. very tight and responsive, so i am rating this purely on sound, not considering value.

The 1960BV is a good cab and will definately do the job, there are ofcourse many better quality cab on the market (Boogie, Diezel, Bogner) but that all depends on what you willing to pay, i paid nearlly twice as much for my mesa cab and i would say it was worth it, FOR ME!! not everyone would think so, not everyone can aford one. The bottom line is that this is a good cab and is used buy many proffessional artists, i play heavy so i prefer the extra bottom end, if i couldnt afford the mesa this would deffinately be the one id get.

I am not sure when this one was made, I think it may be an older one because it only has a single input. It has a few tears on the tolex, the front grill had been replaced and one of the handles was missing, but like I say - trust your ears not your eyes. It is wired in 4ohms but I am going to rewire it into 16 so I can run two cabs if needed. A speaker cabinet can't really have that many features apart from impedence/configuration settings so its good. However the variety of sounds you can pull from this cab is great so that is why it gets the high rating.

I generally play hard rock with my band and I go for a guitar sound similar to Helmet and Faith No More. I like this cabinet a lot for this. It has plenty of low end and I find that the mids are nicely rounded and not too harsh, but still provide sufficient crunch. I am currently running the cab with a Paul Reed Smith McCarty through a Soldano HotRod 50+. It is an incredibly heavy (sound-wise) rig. I find that quads with castors reduce the bottom end because you don't have that extra resonance you get from a quad sitting directly on the floor so I lay it on its side and it sounds much fatter and better. This quad also sounds really good on clean sounds ranging from thick compressed to the hilt blues and country sounds.

Well, I have only recently bought it so I can't speak in particular of his one, but like I said I think it is an older one and it still goes well flat stick. My previous experience with Marshall Cabs have been great, they're built like a tank and the celestions are durable enough to have withstanded hundreds of bands punishing volume levels for decades. There are still cabs around from the sixties with origional greenbacks so there you have it.

About a month ago I sent an e-mail to Marshall with the model number and serial number to get an approximate age of this cab and I still haven't got a reply. I understand that they are a big company but still... One thing about Marshall though is that because they are so common any decent amp tech will be able to service it.

I've been playing in bands for a few years now and have used the standard Marshall Cabs as well as the ones fitted with greenbacks. The standard ones are good but the other two models are much better. I would say that the Vintage 30's and greenbacks are equally good, it's just a matter of personal taste. I have also played Mesa, Orange, Fender and Peavey 5150 cabs and of these I liked marshall the best. In my opinion, Marshall quads are a lot better than Marshall amps (the new amps anyway - plexi's are the best at what they do but I think JCM900's and JCM2000's sound like transistor amps) so if you dont like Marshall amps give the quads a go anyway.

Great ! Just got the cabinet to make a full stack togheter with my standart 300w marshall cab . sounds alot better than the 300 w
cab, so if you have any doubts about buy the standart cab or the vintage version, go vintage , the extra money is worth it .
Handles high volumes very good , very balanced , no shrill highs like with the standart cab and more bass responce .
i'm using a gibson sg standart and a heavily modded jcm800 with it
works fine with any good head.

Setup: Ibanez RG 550 Ltd w.lo-pro edge and Emg 81 at bridge pos., zoom effect pedal and Sovtek mig 100 (not 100-H)
This thingy sounds smooth, a bit muddy when you crank up the bass, so just tell your bass-player to distort his sound!
Suits my style, I play death/grind , it sounds real, not fake, grainy or thin!
Cuts through the mix extremely well, because of the powerful middleish sound (not too middelish though)
Is good for distortion, and very good for clean, if you really, really want to play clean.

Play mostly metal style with hard crunchy edge (Meshuggah, Stuck Mojo). Cool switch on back lets you choose impedence match and split cab into two sets of 12's for stereo sound. Handles enough power thrown at it from any Marshall/boogie amp. (Strategy 400 makes it burp every now and then but that's at jet engine volume)

Use mostly metal style guitars (ESP, Ibanez). This is the best sounding cab in the world in my opinion. Own it along with a dual recto cab. Recto cab seems to be voiced more for boogie amps while marshall cab will sound great with just about anything. Crystal sound with clean tones (triaxis), tight bass as well as articulate highs. Dirty's up real nice when you need the cones to make that "whoof" noise. Killer. These cabs mean business.
