This solid cabinet had many years of recording in NYC. I bought this when the studio was shutting down and I knew what clients liked and this one was a hit. Other than this cab being marked 320W R.M.S., 16Ohms and having the stock G12-80, there's not much to say about features.

We had this cabinet matched up with an '84 JCM800 100W head. The only thing I did to this cabinet was replace the internal wiring. I had to replace the connector once and the wires were so whimpy I replaced them with standard speaker wire. I can't say that's why the artists always requested these 1982A and B cabs with ours or their head (I only picked up the lower stack when I bought my equipment).
This cab was great sounding for both close micing and room micing. It was like you couldn't go wrong, as one engineer once told me.

Only issue was the whimpy plastic connector. I've since replaced it with a metal plate and a Neutrik connector. You can now bump the rear connecotr without breaking the plate.
Wheels spin good and I am surprised there haven't been any issues with this since it is such a well built and heavy cabinet.

Couldn't find the part number on Marshall site for the replacement jack panel, but I had a good single slot plate, so no need to get the cheap plastic one

I'd love to keep playing thru this cabinet, but I moved out west and this and the B15N were the only things that wouldn't fit. I miss playing thru it, but the studio has a 1960 which will get me by, but 4 yrs later I realize I won't be shipping the rest o my stuff out, so I'll have to bite the bullet and ebay it sometime soon. There's an obvious difference between this and what I'm playing thru now, but I'm not recording lots of rock nowadays, so what I have will have to do. Someone will be excited to rock on thru this cabinet.
I wish it were smaller and lighter so it could travel easier, but it is built to handle power and that's what it does very well.

This is a really, really rare cabinet. It was designed for the short lived 200 watt JCM 800 and I suppose 200 watts was way too loud, because Marshall discontinued that amp in short order. Ah, but they had all these 1982 cabinets with the 80 watt speakers in them! They sold some like that, but at some point probably realized the vintage 30 watt speakers would lighten the load (this cabinet is HEAVY!) so some cabinets got the 80 watters swapped out for the vintage 30's. A sticker on the back is the way to tell: if it says "120 watts" then that's what you got. That's what mine is; at 16 ohms. These are not stereo cabinets because with the intended 200 watts going through, they'd blow the cones. So for "features" there are none; just plug and play. The grill cloth is cool though! It's a lighter gray than the 1960's but not light like the 70's checkerboard. It looks very cool and it's distinctive.

I'm playing a 50 watt DSL through it and it's a perfect match. The articulation of the chords blows away the Crate cabinet I'd been using (granted, that's not a great cabinet to begin with). The speakers add and subtract nothing which is what I think a great speaker should do. If you have a great amp, it will give great sound. If you have a crappy amp, you'll hear it in all its crappiness!

Well, I bought this used and it's had a hard life based on the tolex, but it's still going strong with the original speakers! Can't beat that.

I wish more of these were around. I have the top, slanted version and I'd love to make a stack out of it, but finding a bottom cabinet would be a task and a half, and then it would also have to be one with the vintage 30 watt speakers and not the 80's. If I ever see one at a reasonable price, it's mine! I paid $350 used for mine; the same price as I would a 1960 in the same (fair only)cosmetic condition, but it's a better cabinet albeit heavier and better built. They should sell at a premium and maybe in better condition they would? For a 50 watt amp application, I'd take this over a 1960. Just be aware they are not wired for stereo even in the 120 watt edition.

It`s a cab, features???
By the way, this is the 1982A (=slant) cabinet.
Propably made in late 80`s.

Sounds great. No farting at all. Speakers are Celestion GT80 (I was a bit worried about those `cause I prefer Vintage 30, but they didn`t let me down, and most important, they don`t have the brittle sound of GT75-T which pretty much suck). Can handle 4x80=320 watts, which is pretty much in my opinion. I use it with Ibanez RG (Dimarzio Tone Zone & Air Norton), some Boss pedals, Dunlop Cry Baby original, and Carvin Legacy Head (which is awesome).

If this was stolen, I would be very miserable, cause these are hard to find. I compared it to 1960A and this ruled it 100-0. Like I said, no farting, no brittle sound like that had (and it propably had those GT75-T in it). I wish it was stereo, but it can be modded.

Don't know when it was made
Fits my styles of playing (METAL)
Good cab. Mine has 4 12" 30 watt vintage celestion speakers at 16 ohms
has castors and grill cloth is sorta like the tweed color (Like brownish orange)

I use a custom ESP with it, and I have a modified 1959 100 watt slp (KICKS ASS!) My ESP has Seymour Duncans [SH-6 neck, and SH-13(Dimebucker)bridge]
This cab is rad, I can't be more happy with the sound I have right know.
Also, I use 4 BOSS pedals: Noise suppressor, Super Overdrive, 7 band EQ, and DD-5 Delay
I haven't seen anyone with this cab anywhere, I can't even find pics of it online. If I could find a 1982 a cab, I would definetly buy it

I give it a 9 because I am sure that there is a better sounding cab out there somewhere, but until I find it, this one is solid

this cab was made in 1983 or 84 i believe. i use it with a 1984 JCM 800 2203 100w head (as it was made for). it is the bottom half of the "tall stack" 1982A(angled) 1982B speaker stack.
its an 8ohm cabinet, 4x12 'heavy duty' celestions. loud, crips and everything you could ask for with a straight front cab.
gets an 8 cuz its tall (if used as a half stack like i use, i dont' have to bend over that extra 2 inches to adjust my head, and when you are 6'1" those extra inches can suck). also has the JCM 800 logo in gold on the bottom left corner and full sized MARSHALL emblem in white dead center. slick.
also has 4 casters (this sucka is HEAVY).

i play through it with a peavey wolfgang, gibson sonex 180 deluxe, and a fender strat, plain jane with 3 SC p'ups.
this cab is punchy, with good bottoms and highs, and can be pushed to the limit without too many odd noises, rattles or flappy sounds. rated for 325watts.
i'd say it rivals the 1960 series cabinets for sound. if i can ever find a 1982A and make the full stack i'll let ya know if thats true or not. gets a 8 for overall sound in a half stack situation.

its SOLID. i think this is one of the last few cabs to be built consistanty like a rock by marshall.
i've heard people complain about having purchased shoddy 1960's. i don't think you'd find that with this cabinet.
only has 1 TINY rip in the tolex on the bottom edge, in the back. from the front.. totally flawless.
after 20 years, thats pretty impressive. wheels still spin, easy to roll.
don't try to lift it. the handles are sturdy, but creak due to the weight... makes me nervous. gets a 7 because one wheel has a slight squeek due to age, and the handles creak (again probably due to age) but this opinion/rating is about my particular cabinet, not all 1982's in general.

if this thing broke, i'd be impressed. the wood used is probably twice as thick as my last 1960.

all in all. a great cab. lost or stolen, i'd try to replace it.. but i doubt i'd find another in such great condition. but again, good luck running away with it. its SOLID.
i hate the weight, but weight generally means good quality/tone/sound with cabs. so i can't complain.
i wish i could find a mint condition 1982A to go with my absolutely MINT half stack. if that doesn't happen, i may put it up for sale and buy a 1960 full stack. even though i dont need it, its all about having the wall of doom.
i compared it to the 1960a because thats what i had for a half stack for years. great cab. but this cabinet just feels more solid to me.
i wonder if a 1960a would fit on top of it (with casters, i'll be damned if i'm gonna carry it if i could roll it) to make the stack?
hmmm... going to have to break out the measuring tape when i get home.
anything i wish it had? i wish it had hovering capabilities. other than that its perfect.
great buy for vintage marshall stack fans.
