I have a 1974 Artiste head. Not original cabinet.

Sound Quality : 10
Sound quality is awesome. It's all about the TONE. If you want master volume and tons of gain, go elsewhere. If you want TONE, this is the daddy.

This amp along with a 1967 4x12 angle cab, went out on tour with me for the best part of a year around Britain and Europe with a Les Paul '68 Custon, '71 Gold Top and '92 Endorsement model. All of them sounded incredible.

In the studio we could crank it up to 10 for recording. I've never heard valves break up that nicely before. Beautiful.

Reliability : 10
Never let me down ever after I replaced the Belkin mains input with an IEC.

Customer Support : 5
I live in the UK so support is no problem and I can source good valves locally.

Overall Rating : 10
NOTHING says WALLOP! like a Les Paul through this amp.

Marshall Artiste 1973 100watt head
2 channels one with reverb, bass, treble, presence and master volume also high and low inputs. no midrange control.
2nd channel has bass, treble and volume.

Sound Quality : 10
i have used a number of guitars with this amp. i have a custom made mahogany bodied guitar that i have used for years and have just recently started using some of the peavey wolfgangs. the wolfgangs are set up like a les paul but have basswood bodies and maple tops. the custom guitar has 3 humbuckers all of which split so i can pretty much have any configoration i like.
i have played many different guitars through this amp and they all sound great. dont expect huge distorted sounds from this amp that is not what it`s about. this amp has the best natural clean tone that i have ever heard. having worked in a music shop for 17 years i have heard quite a few amps.

Reliability : 10
have owned this amp for 15 years and not once has it let me down. i do take care of it and have it serviced but i don`t baby it. it`s built like a tank!

Customer Support : 8
never had to deal with them other than some parts which were pretty easy to get at the time.

Overall Rating : 10
this amp is the best piece of musical equipment i have ever owned it has never let me down and sounds amazing. i can plug anything into it and any type of guitar and it sound great. it just has great tone. i have never been a marshall person and don`t really like the marshall super leads at all but this thing sings. the only way to describe it that it has the bottom end of a fender twin and the midrange of a marshall which to me and most people that have used is perfect.
jim marshall said in his book the history of marshall the it was one of the worst sounding amps he ever made. i tell you what jim if you have any you don`t want you can send them all to me i`ll have them sold in a day. maybe you should try and reissue this one mate instead of some of the crap your producing now!

early 70's 50 w marshall artiste' head. 2 separate channels:1 low gain w/reverb and 2 classic high gain vintage marshall. this IS a real marshall artiste' head with 4 12ax7 and 2 el34 not a hybrid pos 90's model.

Sound Quality : 9
ch1 stays clean and ch2 is what classic non master marshall tone is all about. channels can be jumpered for endless mixing and tweaking. this amp has a great sounding reverb, all tube.

Reliability : 10
this is early 70's point to point classic marshall. all stock and still working fine.

Customer Support : 5
korg usa sxcks ass! marshall support is great in england but in usa they refer you to korg who just sxcks!

Overall Rating : 10
to doyle and as pittman: fxck you. i finally found one of these amps and was blown away by the 2 separate channels and the great sounds. the above mentioned "expert authors" trash this amp so i feel only right trashing them. this artiste' head is one of the best amps ever made for any style of music. how many ptp 2 channel amps with reverb were made with no diodes or transistors ? damn few.

50 watt artiste' tube head. born in 1973. 2 channels. ptp aka: no circuit board. has 1 feature that is quite rare, beautiful tone from clean spank to natural overdrive. no master vol. amp has reberb but is missing the tank. since the artiste' sounds so good it gets a 10. features without tone are worthless to me.

Sound Quality : 10
using a usa standard les paul. using 13-ply birch 2x12 cabs with weber alnico blue and silver premium speakers. i get nice clean sounds and not so nice clean sounds with desireable breakup on the reverb channel. on the 1st channel it will do good clean with guitar vol down and will break up beautifully as i dime the guitar vol. channels can also be jumped like all real non-master vol marshalls. for lower vol the artiste' takes my budda phatman o.d. better than my budda stringmaster head. pure tone with 0 b.s. this rare amp delivers big tone big time. this is one of the few amps i won't sell because i can't get a bad sound from it! i've tried many tube amps with very good speakers and good tone is expensive and hard to find like a good woman. this marshall deserves a gold medal for being a winner in tone.

Reliability : 10
this marshall is 30 years old and is 99% original and works perfect. the quality of this amp is would cost $3000 for a comparable "new amp". ptp construction is what reliability is.

Customer Support : 10
this review is for this amp and the fact that it's still pumping air tells you how good a ptp marshall is. i can only give the highest rating here for this amp.

Overall Rating : 10
23 years of playing numerous marshalls, fenders, laneys, hiwatts and several other amps and this marshall is 1 of 2 amps that i won't sell. very little info on this amp. gt book says it's too clean and not good for guitar so it was discontinued in 1978. this amp has enough distortion for trower, msg and thin lizzy style with no problem. i took a chance and bought the amp in not working condition and fixed it and its tone is good enough to go into recording studio and very few amps i've had sounded this good. amp is stock, 0 mods.
