I've had mine since 1985. Clean and dirty channels are all you need! the dirty has more than enough distortion for decent gain. def. loud enough even though its only 50 watts.

first of my rig { fender strat, cyclone, mustang, squier jagmaster, 80's unknown cort model, ibanez ts9, big muff, boss ds1, boss ds2, boss metal zone, korg tone works, to the marshall.}
this thing sounds amasing i hade one about 5 years ago and when i bought it it was a piece of junk. so i got rid of it. but luckley enough i found anouther and i had to go and buy it. what can i say this thing sounds crystal clear nice marshall tube tone out of a solid state amp. and the distortion is to die for. ( if your into the hi gain amp i do not recomend this amp for the distortion. unless you buy a stomp box) the distortion sounds like a vintage all tube marshall. i would recomend geting an ibanez ts9. to run in front of it. this will give it a slight high gain sound. iv been playing for about 10 years now and i had this amp once befor and like i said it was a piece of crap because someone didnt take care of it. just as soon as i found another one that was in better condition i had to buy it. id be a fool not to.

well to sum this up. if you can find one of these amps and there in a good condition i would recomend buying it. i only paid $250 for this amp and to me thats a realy good price seeing how you can hardly ever find these amps any where. iv looked on ebay for years for this amp and have only seen 2 or 3. this one just happened to fall in my lap. (p.s. try to find info on this amp on google or yahoo, good luck, its like this thing never exsisted!)

Solid state tube sounding amp... 2 channels clean/drive
pretty simple eq for both sides, reverb on/off and channel switch by footpedal

I use a gibson studio and a fender american strat, lets see the cleans on this thing are to die for it lacks in higher gain settings, but that can be overlooked due to its age and the simple plan of buying a pedal. This thing is loud and cuts through the mix great

I'd probably say this is one of my favorite solid states to play though it won't break up like a tube amp does but it does have that similar sound... kinda what the valvestate amps were trying to deliver I think this one actually did deliver (even though it was made 10 years before the valvestate) At any rate... if it were lost I'd try to find another one on ebay they seem hard to come by.

I give it a 9. I love the clean tones of the amp... and I love the vintage distortion channel...
I figure I got a good deal at 250.00- I just wanted to review it for those looking to buy one....
Ok, so I've had a lot of amps, A TSL 60, a Boogie Nomad, a Boogie rectoverb, a few vox tube amps, and a suprisingly interesting Kustom 2/12 w dfx.
I play with a fender strat w/noisless pups for my clean,
when I'm in rock I change to the Gibson usually a studio or my studio lite custom.
Ok, the fender sounds like a fender...
the gibsons- the downfall, and why I rate it at a 9, they just don't quite sound as clear through this amp, nor have the extra distortion you would expect-
Bottom line, if u like clean channels this is one NICE AMP- but its no daisy compared to a Mesa for distortion... (sorry marshall freaks but its gotta be known Boogie owns the distortion)

I've played with ... endless guitars and amps, been playing for 15 years, I'm gonna lay it to you as I see it, take it or leave it.
I figure this, since I gig regularly at small bars around Tulsa Oklahoma,(spell tulsa backwards) and I drive a '02 trans am.... I gotta get it back and forth to the bar and in and out of a cramped car (pedals, guitars, amp ect.) This thing is the BIGGEST I can find and has enough power to get over the drums and stereo sound...
Now I love tube amps, traynor especially, mesa next, then marshall ect. Ok- this isn't a tube but its tone is CLOSE... too close sometimes. I just don't have to worry bout them goin out or breakin...
By the way- my kustom 2x12 quad dfx sounds pretty good too I'd give it a 7.5 or 8.

Marshall 5212 Split Channel Reverb Amp, circa 1986 (I believe Marshall made this amp for only three years). It's a solid state amp, but people have remarked that it sounds like a tube amp. That being said, while it is warm for a solid state, it does not sound too much like a tube amp.

You can get a clean or dirty channel depending on which position the footswitch is in. Honestly, I rarely use the clean channel. The distortion is crunchy but you have to experiment with the settings and learn how to tweak the knobs to get "the" sound.

I bought the amp used and knowing that the reverb needed to be fixed. That cost me $75 back in '90. Twice I have had the amp in the shop to replace some electronics in the "head" or "brain" at $100 bucks a pop. I have gigged without a back up using this amp, but it is always risky! Have a back up. That being said, only once did I need to borrow an amp from another band and I have used this amp for over 50 gigs.

I'd be upset if the amp was stolen. But I'd also see it as finally having an excuse to buy something new. I could find this amp again on Ebay for $200 plus shipping. They pop up every so often. But it is a solid amp and has a good sound.

The Amp was made in around 1985.
I play Classic rock and this amp is perfect for that style.
The amp has 2 channels, clean and distorted and both work well, (the clean is VERY CLEAN, and distortion is very crunchy! It has an effects loop, which I do not use. It says that the amp is 50 Watts, but it sounds alot louder, ( seems like 100 watts). The amp is kinda on the heavy side, but i wouldn't trade it for anything....I just love the sound!

********THIS IS IMPORTANT TO ALL MARSHALL 5212 OWNERS**********
There have been a couple of "INCORRECT and UNSAFE" comments that I have found in this particular review.......

I gig with this tank all the time...The only problem I had was the "popping" when it was
shut off and the hum with an audible radio signal. If you want to fix this, just do the
following. Open up the amp by removing top screws, amp slides out you might have to
disconnect the speaker leads to get it out. at the back of the amp you will see on the
Effects input jacks and the Footswitch input jack a bare wire that act's as a ground. jumper
a wire from that bare ground directly to the ground on the A/C cord. This should eliminate
all humm and interference...Good Luck...

I've been playing for almost a year, I like it a lot, it's a beginnerish amp, if lost, I'd
save up and get The King's amp: the Peavey 5150. This is for the Brown Sound i adore so.......................

Made in early eighties, extremely versatile, play everything from Aerosmith to Bach, the clean channel is super clean, the effects loop work's extremely well and eliminates 60 cycle hum, if pedals are fed with A/C adapter. 50 "Marshall" watts is plenty loud for club venue. I run through a "Blue Tube" pedal to warm up solid state sound, use it on overdrive to reach some Led Zep tones.

I use Gibson 1985 Les Paul Standard with Burst Bucker 1 in neck and Burstbucker 3 in bridge, changed capacitors to .022 bumblebee's. Really drove a nice bluesy sound, can pretty well nail B.B King "After The Thrill is Gone" tone. For Blues, Gain 5.5 Bass 6 Contour 6.5 Treble 8.5, add just a pinch of reverb.

Well I'm 45 now and I started playing when I was six..so I guess a long time. I use my 1985 Les paul for practice and experimentation, when I do play live it's with my 1959 Les Paul. Believe it or not since I did the capacitor job on my 85 Les Paul the tone is almost identical to the 59. The 5212 is extremely well suited to both guitars, I have tried an Ibanez T.S. in the loop, but did not really get the crunch that I was looking for. Overall I probably will never try another amp.

i play a ibanez gsa 60 and a sx double fat strat. this amp blows me away. i got this thing used but iv loved it sence the day i got it. it can get to trebblie but you can always fix that. some say the distortion channel it so soft for them, ( you can always get a stomp box ) but i like it. i also run a fab tone throught it . it sutes my needs very well i can pull off some grung, metal, blues and everything inbetween. it says its a 50 watt but i think they lied this thing gets loud. and when you crank it its still crystal clear not muddy and overdriven. the only thing i kinda dont like about it is the fact that you got to tilt the amp back when you play it or the reverd tank starts buzzing.but thats ok i just bought an amp stand for it and it makes it project better and the reverb tank dosnt make anymore noise. oh yeah and theres a loud pop when you cut it off. but it dosnt hurt your speakers. iv gotten kind of useto it. its a lovley amp and it plays nice .

this thing is like 75 pounds. its a pain to carry it around but for the price i paid and the sound its wail worth it. and i always need a good work out. iv played 3 gigs with it. one time the volume went out on me but i cut it off and cut it back on and i figured out i had the clean volume to loud so i fixed that real fast. but after that it hasnt acted up sence. p.s. you cant use the distortion with out the pedal.

I believe the amp was made around 1986-87. It is stock with 2 celestion 75 watt per speakers. foot switching, spring reverb, effects loop, and headphone/D.I. out(although this unfortunately overrides the speakers.) 3 band eq on the dist. channel and 2 band on the clean. solid state 50 watt

I use a cheap Ibanez gsa60 and also an epiphone les paul custom with gibson 57 classics installed. This amp does not particularly suit my style, because the gain has more of a crunch than hi-gain, nu-metal type distortion that i wish it had, but of course it was made on the 80's. the clean is very nice. brassy with the treble up and volume halfway, but when you turn the bass and volume up, you get a glorious blues tone. the only problem is that you can only get the clean volume up to about 6 or 7 before it starts to distort. this is because of it's bluesy style though. Distortion is good, and is capable of many different styles, but like i said, the really high gain isnt there. thats why i need to get a new amp. oh also, it makes a loud pop when you turn it off, and it makes a strange noise constantly when it is on, kind of like the sound you et when you turn a dirty pot, but its all the time, but its not too loud.

i would trust this thing to be dropped out of a truck and still work. heck its a marshall. ive been very good to it though. the only thing i did to it was bleach the grill cloth to get a very nice looking tweedish look, but it looks like its been around for awhile and has seen alot of sun. very cool effect.

ive been playing for about 5 years now, and am planning on possibly selling this amp for money to buy a dsl100 head and jcm900 1960A cab. Im a big fan of the marshall tone. if it was stolen, i would probably grieve for a while, and then get another amp(if this were made for my style, id get it attatched to myself at the hip) the reverb is AWESOME on this amp. anyway, thats it
