has a ton of features and all of them are very useful. It effects the tone quite audibly. It can certainly make or break your sound. You'll have to be a bit patient in fiddling with the features from front to back.

Sound Quality : 5
The tone is very organic for a marshall multi-channel head. The cleans are excellent. Very warm and vibrant. Certainly one of Marshall's best cleans. Although I like the DSL cleans a bit better. Channel two is classic Marshall but there is something about it no matter which mode I choose there is this fizzy high end and the bass is s bit muddied. The Lead channel has great sustain but lacks clarity and has too much oomph in the low end. For some reason it just didn't sit well with me I wanted to like but i thought it was a bit thin and lacks the balls of the DSL with is voiced closer to a 800 and the 30th anniversary is voiced closer to a 900.

Reliability : 9
solid as rock

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 7
Overall it's a very high quality Marshall 3 channel head with good components. Overall It didn't meet my expectations comparing to my Laney and Mesa. I solid it and have no regrets about it.

I own it since 1993.- Mine is one of the 800 blue limited edition. I`m in Argentina, don't know how could it travel so far from the marshall factory.-
Until now, I'm finding out lots of new amazing sounds. No effects required.- The most versatile I ever heard.-

Sound Quality : 10
You have anything you need to play rock roll.- Sounds incredible, I've recently recharged it with Mullard EL34 (the reissues ones) and JJ 12ax7.- Some tung sol 12ax7 are coming soon, just to proove.- Sounds great, even with my american standard fender strat, or my gibson les paul, or my washburn hollowbody

Reliability : 10
Never broke in theese 15 long years

Never try to contact the company, I guess I'm too far away from them

loads of features: multi-channel amp,a classic great Marshall sound, brutal and beautiful distortion

Sound Quality : 10
sounds really amazing on distortion with my Kramer Baretta. Lots of powerful power amp distortion, even with a crunch sound, the sound is more powerful than most other good amps. And the cleans are beautiful. I plug my Strat in and I am rewarded with beautiful cleans. The distortion is very versatile, you can go from vintage to a more modern Marshall tone, all in a single amp. What I love about it is that 'low power' mode,I can crank the amp up

Reliability : 10
been using it for 6 years now, never had a problem, very reliable

Mine is the blue 6100 LE ??? YES the"there are only 850 numbered (532) brass logo & inside with a plaquette with number and a certificate signed by all employees that worked on it inluded mr. Jim Marshall himself" one
It simply includes all previous Marshall amps and more between 1962 and 1993 if you tweek the buttons on the 3 channels, if you have to believe the History of Marshall book (and i do!)
On the backside there is even a balanced output, so i use it to re-amp guitar recordings in the studio a lot.
It has everything i want. (except a p**sy)

Sound Quality : 10
not a 10, but this one goes up to 20!!!
Forget the bunch made after this one, lots of them were merely mediocrate (that's when Mesa and all other Marshall copiers jumped in the hole Marshall left) use them for stage violence.
I use it with a Gibson Les Pauls Studio, a customized SG (still under construction), or a Jackson Performer wit EMG humbuckers, and for effects: a Boss CE-1 chorus, a Roland AP7 jet phaser, a Lexicon rack reverb, and a Korg SDD 3000.
Yes it is noisy, but that are all tube amps.(if it's not throw it away)
Clean it sounds like Marshall Heaven, and distortion is all Marshall Metal Heaven.
Only Marshall, and nothing but a Marshall

Reliability : 10
Only one tube had to be replaced, that's all ( the shop i bought it from, was also the one it sold it to the first owner)

Customer Support : 10
Marshall is known for its perfect clientfriendlyness, I adore their company.
E-mail, phone, letters all is handled by them, or by their importeurs

Overall Rating : 10
Yhe guy who traded this one in for a JCM 2000 is a foooooooooooooooool, hahahahahahahahahahahahaha SUCKER!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is the story: i walked into the shop i came for almost 15 years to buy my guitarstuff, (i still go there) and saw something blue standing in the corner.
I jumped on it and started drueling, so John (the shop owner) said " you wanna know what it costs for you?"
whe got to a deal with me trading in my JCM 800, but the deal with the previous owner was that he didn't tell anyone who he was. (lucky for him i still don't know who he is, or i would be laughing outside his house every day)
I rolled my new aquired love into my living room, and my wife asked me what it costed me.
My answer was " even if we had to eat only old bread for a year, and got kicked out of my house by the bank i still would have bought it.
Thats its value to me.
If my house caught fire, first i would save my Marshall, then the kids, then my Gibsons, and then my wife and the rest.

blue tolex, el-34 tubes.
same as what everyone else has said.
it's everything you need in one amp.

Sound Quality : No Opinion
i've read alot of the reviews. not surprised that there were very few negative remarks about this amp.

6100 blue head. it's a monster. a tone monster!
i found mine online. it needed a good cleaning and re-tubing.

do you want to hear this amp. to really hear and feel this amp
and know what it's capable of.
back off the gains to around 5. push the master volume 1/2 way up or more.
ch.2, i select 'B'.
set individual channel volumes to level that you want.
adjust gains to your liking. less gain for my personal taste.
i prefer the full body sound of power tubes being pushed hard, and letting the guitar's volume (and how hard you hit the strings) control the amount of breakup.

running amp on 100 watts.

this amp does everything that i need it to do. it's very flexible.
just love it!

Reliability : 10
i have to turn my amp on, off, and on again. otherwise the
footswitch doesn't switch channels. .... odd mishap.

but other than that, no problems.
15 years and still doing it's job. and better than
most or newer production amps.

Customer Support : No Opinion
never dealt with.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
i am glad that i purchased this amp.
one of the best i've ever owned or played.

what more could you want, this amp as it all its the most versatile tube amp on the planet,,3 channels of tonal bliss,

Sound Quality : 10
channel 1 clean its that its clean no matter were you set it at it stays clean use it on low damping mode and it gets alive and sweet greatest marshall clean ever almost the jtm45 is unbeatable..

channel 2 crunch i use it in c mode and it gives me that 80,s metal tone we all dream about,,i can get satriani vai randy you name it on this channel its a bit more compressed then chanel 3 go figure but i have the lm version but its been modded to use el34,s

channel 3 lead some say that this channel as too much gain and is unusable well this channel on my 6100 as a tad less gain then channel 2 and its less compresed it as that old marshall vibe to it if you know what i mean a bit less bass and more hairy mids and bite its great i still dont know witch one i like best channel 2 or 3 they do sound very different and feel very different as well, i keep switching between both of them and both sound super good in different ways,,but to me channel 3 lead sounds more vintage like an old superlead or plexi thats been modded for more gain and it pulls it off with style..
i like the way the preamp tubes or laid out (7 in total) you can tailor each channel with different tubes super great for tone junkies like me the best power tubes i found so far are svetlana el34 not the C logo ones the normal ones they sound fubuloso in this amp but i would like to get my hands on some NOS TESLA el34,s thats what these amp came with wen they were built these amps were built in the same time as the jcm 900 but they sound nothing like those these are more like the jcm 800 they have more mojo behind them more drive harier the feel is definatly there very organic amp to play you can feel it , it can push allot of air as well very powerfull and dynamic..

Reliability : 10
allot of poeple complain that these heads break all the time well mine was made in the early 90,s and it still works flawlessly so why complain its built like a rock much better then the newer stuff made today like jcm 2000 and so on..

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 10
i owned ,bogner ,soldano, custome audio electronics, demeter, peavey, mesa, various marshalls, splawn, vht, randall, line 6 ,carvin, engl, and more this amp is the one i am keeping it sounds as good as the bootique stuff at a fraction of the cost and it as that beautifull marshall vibe to it..

After owning this amp for 5 months now and really getting to know the features of this amp from the front to back . I've learned to maximize take advantage of the amps full potential that I didn't before. I left out one small, but huge difference maker in the tone. I got the impression on the back of the amp with the " Power and Damping feature that they sorta work the same way....gee was I wrong!!! When I got the amp the " Power" selector was set to low and I didn't shift it to High until carefully reading the manual on this feature again when I was in the toilet. I later went over to my amp and put it on standby and switched it to High and low and behold....it kicked ass!! Wow!! What a difference that made!! For some odd ball reason I thought that the Damping High, Low and Auto selectors correspond to the resonance of the speakers along with the Power switch...duh!!! I then played with the Pentode/triode mode again with full and half power! It sounded great with either one. The triode had a smoother sound but the in Pentode mode...look out!! Has all balls to the wall Marshall Roar!! Full and wicked! Oh by the way I mentioned from my previous review that channel 3 on the bass sounded flubby ...well that was when I had it on Low power setting...That bass just tighten up and sounded focus! I love all channels now and use them all for different applications. This is just an outstanding head!!! Johnny A uses them exclusively and there are clips of him on youtube that you can hear just how great this amp sounds Clean and distorted! I also had a chance to play with the JVM....twice on different occasions and have to say that even though it has more gain than the 6100. The 6100 has more of a organic sound than the JVM and the JVM is very noisy . My vote goes to the 6100!

Well..I have three of these heads. One 1992 6100 (blue tolex) and two 6100LM's (1995 and 1997). This review is for all of them, but I'll note the differences anyway. The 6100's lead channel is lower gain (but still a lot of gain available) compared to the 6100LM's...The other channels are supposedly the same, but they will sound different because of the EL-34's rather than the 5881's in the 6100LM's. The 6100LM sounds slightly scooped on the lead channel. These amps are extremely versatile, they cover just about any type of music..Three channels - clean, crunch, and lead. Two different effects loop modes (series and parallel). The ONE thing that I wish these amps had were a footswitch to switch between mode a, b, and c on the crunch channel, but I guess you can't have it all..but I'm rating it a 10 anyway, as this was probably the most versatile amp at the time. This is an all tube amp. This amp is 100 watts, so it's loud like any 100 watt Marshall tube amp (although you can switch to 50 watt pentode, 50 watt triode, 25 watt triode etc). This amp has tons of features.

Sound Quality : 10
It can go from Fender clean on channel 1 (this amp has the best Marshall clean I've heard), to an overdriven plexi, to JCM 800 crunch, to JCM 900 high gain on channel 2, to super-saturated lead tones on channel 3. The clean channel breaks up a little with the volume above 7, but I think it's supposed to do that. The distortion on this amp is great, some people say it's like a modded JCM 900, but I don't hear it. I use channel 3 most of the time for distortion. It doesn't get muddy no matter what. It suits my music style (hard rock) just fine. It is a little noisy, but apparently all of them have a bit of noise..it's normal I guess. I use various guitars with it, Les Pauls, SG's, Strats, etc..They sound great.

Reliability : 7
Here's the bad part. The blue 6100 only works in triode mode for some reason, and it will probably be a nightmare to troubleshoot. Other than that, it seems to work well..I just don't like the sound of it in triode mode. One 6100LM works, but the previous owner did some stupid things while re-tubing it and nearly blew the power transformer, causing it to buzz loudly on idle..it sounds fine when I play though. The second 6100LM blew up, and it's being repaired right now..I don't even know what happened to it, and the tech doesn't know as of now either. (apparently it's a nightmare working on these). I might depend on these amps, as long as I get them fixed and have them serviced once in a while. But I'll have to see once they get repaired...the first 6100LM has been working relatively OK for almost a year, though.

Customer Support : 2
Bad. I asked them (Korg USA) a few simple questions, and they basically said that I should go to my Marshall dealer and ask them. That's hardly support...As for the warranty, I'm sure it's expired. I was looking all over for an authorized repair center, and even considered sending it a few states over...but it turned out there was one right in town..so I guess that was easy enough. As I said, one of them is being repaired right now.

Overall Rating : 9
Been playing for about four years. I own four 30th anniversary amps (one 1992 6101, one 1992 6100, and two 6100LM's) and a load of other gear. I'd buy a replacement IF it works..that's my only issue with them, the reliability. They are great sounding amps though.

I traded one of my Laney VH100R from Bill below . I figure since I have two VH100R and wanted a different sound and always love the Marshall sound as well as Laney...why not huh??? This is a 92 Blue Tolex with EL34's with the Original tubes 4 x El34 Tesla (One of the best El34's out there, second "Winged C"). Anyway, this is one of the most versatile Marshall head that's ever made. Aside from the JVM, the current flagship. Although I haven't played one yet....I've heard mix feelings about them. Some good and some not so good but nothing bad at all. This head is heavy and has alot of components, ribbons and circuitry...not to mention heavy duty transformers. This head has 7 x ECC83 tubes in there! Yikes!! A ton of tube gain stages!! Speaking of gain this head has a ton of gain! More so than you'll ever need! I replace the stock with NOS tubes but some reason the original sounds just as good. I just fine tune to taste by putting a RCA in V1, EI Elite Gold for V2 and Telefunken for PI? Don't ask why its there....It just sounds the best to me in that slot! And the rest the stock Chinese tubes.

It's a three channel switching head. I don't care for the half power switch. It does have a damping 3 way selector low, high and auto...auto sounds best so I keep it that way. Each channel has it's volume to give you more preamp juice. The Master Volume works great! In terms of eq...it's your standard bass, mid treble and gain for only the crunch and lead channel. And of course it comes with a 3 button footswitch. Just a note...the switching is very seamless, quick and smooth. No slight latency like the DSL from my experience!

Sound Quality : 10
This amp can produce classic Marshall tones of past to the JCM900. It can get a little bit like the JCM800 if you spend some time tweaking it. The 6100 has the best cleans of any Marshall I've ever heard. It stays clean and has a very nice vibrancy about it. It's warm and shimmery. The crunch channel has a and b buttons for JTM45 and 1959 Plexi Supergroup tones. Sounds great for classic sounds of the past. Push em together for C mode and you get more of the JCM 800/900 tones! Bass tightens up super tight without sounding fake for flubby. And killer distortion! With tons of gain! I had to lower the gain to 10 o 'clock for my taste. And not to mention the presence the same without getting too much bite. It definitely has that Marshall Roar!! The thing I love about Marshall is that they have that magical midrange sound that not many amps have. My VH100R doesn't even have that but that's something only Marshall has. Channel 3 is gain out of this world....best for solo stuff. It can sound flubby because of the way they design the bass more for lead work which is understandable. They have gain boost and contour switch to help get rid of the majority of the flub when you engage it. I personally don't use this channel very much so no biggie. This Marshall sounds fantastic!! I took it out to band practiced one day and it screams! Great string note to note definition and sustain. Of course the more you crank her up the better she sounds. I have to say that the 6100 is dead quiet compare to my VH100R but for live performances. The Laney gets the nod all the time! It's a monster amp and it's the best live amp I've ever used! Never failed on me nor it's performance. I've haven't met an amp that can out perform the VH100R for band rehearsals and gigs. Some amps I've owned in the past sounded great at lower volumes but come crunch time to flex their muscles..the VH100R stands above them. Not to say that the 6100 isn't capable of that. It can with right speakers and cab! I have no doubts about it! It's rocks period!

Reliability : 10
Well what can I say...it's in great shape first off and it was made around 92 and has worked flawlessly! A workhorse!!

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for 12 years and I own a Laney VH100R, VC50 2x12 combo with V30's, Orange PPC212 cab(Killer Cab) If it was stolen...I don't know if I would buy it again cause they are expensive and hard to find especially for the EL34 version which I had no idea about these amps until I traded for it. Then I did my homework...kinda sad...lol But if they were in production today..yes I would! This is by far one of the best sounding Marshalls out there possible. I like it better than the DSL/TSL. It has a more organic tone. The DSL and TSL has some kinda diode clipping in the signal path. The 6100 has all Tube signal path!

'92 Blue tolex, EL-34's, with 6960A matching cab.
More features then the TSL (which I've owned 3 of).
Most versital Marshall ever. It can cover any style.
There's a reason people call it the best Marshall ever!

Sound Quality : 10
Jackson SL2H -> Boss OD3 -> MXR 10 Band EQ -> 6100 -> 6960A
Efects loop = Roctron Tsunami -> DE7 Echo/Delay

Clean channel is the best I've heard from a Marshall.
"Bright Switch", and "Mid Shift" are nice features.
With a little Chours, and Delay your in 80's Hard Rock intro heaven.

Channel 2 "Crunch" is more then enough for most people.
My "Drive" setting is 5.5, and I like my sound HEAVEY!
A bunch of different Marshall amps here (JTM45, 1959SL, JCM900)

Channel 3 "Lead"..... Sheeut! Awesome tone! Sustain for days! My "Gain" is only at 5.75.
"Gain Boost" engaged. "Contour Switch" which I don't use.

Noisy? This amp is not noisy.
Distortion? Yes it's BRUTAL!

This half stack will punch you in the chest. Very tubey, and 3-D sounding. The Celestion G12T-75's move a lot of air. Very clear, and articulant. If you want to feel your sound this is the rig!

I've wanted this amp since the early '90's, and now it's mine, and it's better then I thought it would be!
There's a reason Satch, Weezer, and a bunch of others have owned, and used them.
Trust me....it's not all hype

I own 2 Marshall 30ths A Blue tolex 30th 1992 and a 1993 before the LM. The blue is in mint condition and was bought for $1000 on ebay. The only thing i have had to do to it was replace the preamp tubes. The 93 black tolex was bought again off of ebay for $500 but was not running when i got it. It cost $600+ to get it running. Feature wise it has everything i wanted in a amp 3 channels where the clean is crystal clean the 2nd channel ,crunch has a great rythme sound ( i play alot of heavy metal ) the 3rd channel is flat out AWESOME for soloing and has more than enough sustain & heavyness to it.

Sound Quality : 10
I play all original metal so the settings on channel 2 & 3 are set to thier heavyest. on a Ibanez RG 550 w/ EMG's & a Ibanez s540 w/ EMG's both guitars have totally different sounds because of the wood ( the RG has a much heavier sound) I also have a custom 7 string guitar same shape as the RG which sounds so evil when on channel 2. The distortion onthe 2nd channel is perfect for heavy rythmes like the band TOOL. And the 3rd channel just plain out dominates for soloing

Reliability : 10
The blue tolex has given me NO ISSUES , however the black tolex 93 (pre LM) was broken when i got it . The person who had befor me trashed the amp , The amp actually looked like it did a face plant on the floor hence the front of the amp was trashed (buttons were missing or replaced with crappy toggles) i paid to have it restored by a certified marshall tech. 2 months later the amp is alive & sounds great. Niether amp has had any problems since

Customer Support : 5
Marshall was a pain to deal with. It took 2 months to get parts for the 93 from England ..but it was worth it.

Overall Rating : 10
Like i said earlier ..ive been playing around 30 years. if somethign werer to happen to Old Blue...id do my damdest to find another ! I love the sound and theres nothing i dislike about the amp. I previously owned a JCM 800 then a Peavy 60/60 rack power amp w/ Peavey 3 channel rockmaster Rack setup...and then a 5150 ...none of which could compare to the 30ths i have now.

Back in 1992 i went into a local music store and saw the Marshall 30th LE and the guy let me play it ...LOUDLY with my own guitar ...and i was totally blown away at the versitily of sound from a VERY crystal clean 1st channel - warm JTM sound 2nd channel to an extreme distortion 3rd channel. NOw that i finally able to own one...i will never sell it or move to anything else !

Made in 1992, this is the blue tolex version with EL34. 100 watts, 3 channels, 2 effects loop (selectable parallel/series, and level controls) line out/recording out, pentode/triode mode, half power switch, 3 mode speaker dampening switch......wait am I reviewing a Bogner XTC 101B?

Sound Quality : 10
I've got a bunch of different fenders, ebmm and a couple of old charvels and they all sound great throught this amp for any style. Been playing professionally for about 18 years and have owned pretty much everything out there, soldano, mesa, bogner, egnater, fender, rivera, peavey, etc and this amp keeps up with all of them. Super high gain on channels 2 and 3 but with each channel there's alot of flexbility like a contour and boost switch on channel 3.

Reliability : 10
I have 3 of theses amps since 1992 and none of them have let me down.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to use it.

Overall Rating : 10
For a modern player, this is the best marshall you can buy, it's versatile, sounds great and is reliable, what more could you ask for? You can pick these things up for less than a grand in mint condition and that amazes me because people are willing (like I have) to spend close to $3,000 for a Bogner XTC for an amp that recreates a Marshall sound and feel. Why not save your self $1,000 and buy 2 of these babys and keep one for back up or set up a monster 6 channel, stereo Marshall rig? This amp is sure to be a collectors item. 30th anniversary and the best marshall made since 1980. I also have the 6100LM, the 6L6 Version and it sounds just as good but with less treble and compression.

made back in 1992
really does a lot o'stuff.

next to the input there are two buttons for switching between "low compression" & "high compression" which means low cut and high cut to get that cutting-edge strats and those modern bottom end les pauls under control. works quite well.

the clean channel features a 3 band equalizer, two buttons for scooping it and another low cut/high lift and an independent volume knob.

the crunch channel also has 3 bands, an independent volume knob, two buttons for switching from A to B and from B to C (which are the three different curcuits, modeled from a bluesbreaker, a plexi and a JCM 900)

the lead channel has a 3 band equalizer, independenet volume, a gain boost and a contuor switch, that makes it very metal if you turn the knobs (never use it, does not fit my style)

I use it for gigging and at home. i love the sound when it's turned up, therefore you have a powerswitch at the back of the amp giving the possibility of turning it down to 100/50/25 watts. has an eardamaging volume anyway.

Sound Quality : 9
use it with a Epiphone G-400 equiqued with a Semour Duncan SH-5 at the bridge. sounds absolutely tough but a bit bassy (what a word).
I mainly use the 2nd channel settings A and B and the third channel with the gain half the way up and the gain boost on. the 2nd channel is absolutely awesome. it sounds so similar to the originals, the tsl couldn't sound like that in a million years. channel one is very fenderish, channel 2C is the sound of metal and the 3rd channel sings a lot with the mids up.

I'll make it short ... it's the most versatile Marshall Amp I've ever played. And I played a lot. The TSL can also do a lot of funny things ... but not as much as my old (one of the first ones ... no 6100 ... just) Anniversary model.

Sound Quality : 9
I don't really like the 3rd channel ... it's ... mmmh ... a bit too muddy. But the 2nd channel rocks your socks off! All 3 modes are awesome. Even the clean channel sounds good! That was what suprised me the most. I owned a JCM 900 and hated that clean sound. But the Ann. clean channel can take you everywhere you wish to. Well done!

Reliability : 2
I've never seen an amp braking up that often like this Marshall! I had a lot of problems with it. Once I had to ship it to Marshall! And that was f***ing expensive! S***ers! But now it's running and I hope it'll run longer than before ...

Customer Support : 5
Good, slowly and pretty expensive!?!

Overall Rating : 7
The sound is awesome! It's a good amp and very versatile! If you need sparkling clean tones, you will love it. If you need nice crunch or hard rock tones, you will love it too. If you play nu rock, take a Mesa Boogie (like all the others do ... pretty uninspired, don't you think?!?). But be shure that you've got enough money to pay the repairs.

Mit etwas Chorus hat man gleich den "Like the way I do Sound" von Melissa.

Marshall halt. Was soll man sonst sagen

Kaufen!

3 channels, effects loop, master volume and channel volumes(very nice feature by the way! All laid out in an easy to use fashion(easier to use then the Tsl100's front panel)..you know the rest of the features...5881s...etc MIDI is the better part of this amp compared to the TSL (I own both)

Sound Quality : 9
Awesome sound! Expecially clean sound is great! Not as twangy as a fender amp or roland but a lot warmer, can get some nice overdrive out of it as well(the clean channel that is) The 2nd channel is awesome! I'm using guitars with emg81/85 setups and 500t gibson pickups, almost every guitar sounds killer with this channel(even my mexican strat) I like this channel better than the 3rd. The 3rd channel I am indifferent about. Sometimes I like it; Sometimes I hate it. It is much more of a dry sound, with less warmth and compression. It doesnt have the saturation of the 2nd channel, but it has an awesome bite sound, which sounds and works well with downtunings (I tune to Drop C with my band). If you are intrested in this amplifier, you defently have to play it first!

Reliability : 10
Owned it for two years(bought it off a friend), he owned it for 5 years, its never been retubed, but still sounds killer! It is just starting to loose some top end...

Never have had to delt with them...hopefully never..I fix my own shit anyways...

It really is an awesome amp, one of marshalls best i believe (but they make great amps, and nothing beats vintage/discontinued) I wish this amp were the blue/purple tolex model, but oh well. It sounds awesome. If you are thinking of buying this amp, it is a great choice and I would defentley reccomend it! (sorry for the spelling...it is late at night and I'm tired! haha) but check out the TSL, personally I think it sounds quite a bit better, not to mention the dual effects loop which are awesome!! Good luck!

When this amp works it kill's in in the studio, iv'e played in underground and cult bands here in oz for 20 years and through the 90's i played drums in some heavy/punk/rock n roll bands (i play guitar in bands as well) and this amp was great to record with, by me and guitar players i recorded always wanted me to bring it in, so many GOOD sounds, has kinda great flow when recoding like to quickly switch channels and twiddle some nkobs and blammo, yeah that's the sound for this song.

Mainly i used this amp is used for punk - heavy rock and rock n roll, had probably the cleanest marshall sound i ever heard in the clean channel (der)

unfortunatley this was and is the MOST UNRELIABLE AMP I HAVE EVER OWNED, look i'm not exagerating, i had it in the repar shop 6 times in 6 months with same problems reoccouring, thats after 2 shops had it for weeks and WERE UNABLE TO FIX IT. A LOT has gone wrong with it over the years. I know it seems harsh but it's what happened. but i do have it working now but it was VERY VERY VERY stressful, hey i'm still not over it . . . . . . . but i am a stubborn c@#t and stuck with it because i love the combo of sounds and am really used to it and get the sounds i know quick.

The biggest problem with this amp is that an output tube failure will often take out the channel switching board. As of 2003, these boards are no longer available. A full chip set including a proprietary EPROM (so I can rebuild the board myself) is also unavailable.

Can we say "boat anchor"???

Just Horrible! I'm a tech with 9 years experience on Marshalls. The in-house factory techs will ONLY talk with their authorized warranty field service folks. I used to work at an authorized station and I can say this is BS. Only RARELY could I get through to a tech when I WAS authorized.

mine is from the early 90s, not too sure, blue casing but not the metallic logo. i play as the lone guitarist in a hardcore band; so i dont exactly require a huge number of different settings, this amp has enough features for me to show up at a blues gig or a jazz show or whatever anyway

Sound Quality : 10
playing heavier stuff i tend to mainly use the lead channel which provides a warm thick high gain that is perfect for breakdowns and palm muted riffs etc, packs a hell of a punch especially when run through two marshall 1960s. noisy? this thing can fill a room regardlesss of size. i use it with a fairly crappy epiphone les paul studio, but ive never had any problems with the numerous other guitars i have used with it. the clean channel is fairly standard marshaLL stuff, like raindrops as you strumm a quiet chord. this thing is great for metal / hardcore or any othe form of distorted guitars.

Reliability : 9
ive only had it for a month or two, so at this stage i havent experienced any problems; but its a marshall. solid as a rock and even if there is a problem marshall are good to deal with

1992 blue tolex production model-el 34's
i play rock , blues, jazz, and use Les Pauls and strats
this is 3+ channel amp;1 clean (ala JTM 45), 2 (jtm mode 1, plexi mode a, jcm 800 mode a+b); 3 over driven hot rod JCM 800
has channel switching, midi coupling connection, effects loop and series parallel blend control, mid shift channle 1 (goes marshall clean or fender clean-kinda), gain boost on channle 3100-50-25 watt pentode triode power options; separate eq for each channel, NO VERB
11 tubes, has switchs for taming LP boom (bass cut) or strat squeal(top cut)

Sound Quality : 10
I cant say Im a Marsahll expert - i have played several and know the classic sounds from recordings, so my opinion is limited-but what I do know is the longer i own and use this amp the more i love it-the only description i can use is that it is alive and musical-meaning it has nice harmonic overtones and resonance-sounds organic and not like a processor ( i have several amps including older fenders )
I am running the head with the stock anniv slant cab in blue tolex with celestion G 12 75's -use primarily Les Paul and strats - both shine
simply put this is an amp that is MUSCIAL-meaning nice harmonics-you get to hear what the guitar sounds like as well as your playing-there isnt a channel i dont love-however channel 1 is dry and a bit 'british' obviously-it actuall works great for jazz and country and a processor will really enhance the low volume use of the channel-but the channel sounds great at top volume-think bluesbreaker restrained crunch

channel two has it all-old guy or youg guy levels of Marshall gain-a beautiful channel with as much or as littel gain and attack sensitivity as you like-youll recognize sounds youve heard on classic rock albums-just dead on

at full gain there is a modest amount of hiss-the amp will do classic rock to almost death metal-but still musical (it will not produce mesa triple you -know -what buzz saw metal)

Every channel is a great-if you want fender sparkle in the clean channel 1, it aint happening here-but a good processor/eq can make it very nice.

This amp has mid shifts, great tones controls and contour options which can allow you to find just the right sound-i have kept to 75s because altho not 'classic' rock-they are tight, dont blow, and give great bass -very focused

the amp is up to any size venue -it is loud with half a stack-and is not too bad in 25 watt mode (which is triode-a bit dirtier than pentode-not as nice harmonics -gets more brown and less definition-

4x12 is a royal pain to move but it sounds really great at mid plus volume to get that natural cab resonance-which IMHO removes the need for reverb -next best thing is closed back 2x12 IMHO-and yes you could use it in lowest power mode in a small club-the preamp section sounds pretty good even without power tube distortion-this amp never sounds fizzy or processed

I am pleased with this amp-the el 34's give it an entirely different sound than those with 5881 and the mod IMHO would be worth the trouble

Reliability : 8
great so far and it is used dimed lots-my pots are scratchy-but that is easily remedied-oddly, compared to all my other amps this is the only one with such pot problems

I have yet to play another large amp that I think is so versatile and musical-the reverb issue is easily addressed with an outboard unit-I would replace it in a heartbeat-if I could

I heard Johhny A while he was in Denver-using the 6100 combo turned into a head-and lots of peddles/delays etc., mind you-the best proof of what I say-absolutley the most versatile amp-from rockabilly to jazz to hendrix to chet-to blues-

Made in late 1993, Black with 5881 power valves. More features than you need and mentioned in previous reviews, No reverb but I don't think that Marshall ever made one that was any good.
May-be I can help clarify facts for some of the comments in previous reviews as to which model 6100 is which:
The model 6100 was made from 1992 to 1998 only.
6100-LE = Limted Edition - made in 1992 only, (blue Tolex only, brass name logo etc (only 800 made).
Marshall swicthed from EL34 tubes to Sovtek 5811's late 1993 when Phillis? EL34's dried up. Although the Svetlana El34 became avilable, Marshall stuck to the 5881.
Became 600-LM late 1994 when lead channel WAS modified (LM =Lead Master)until production ceased.

Sound Quality : 8
Vast array of sounds, (which is what is was designed for),if anything too much to choose when playing live. I use an effects pedal (Zoom GFX8) just to switch channels and add reverb chorus etc on the clean channel.
My PRS custom, Gibson Les Paul and Fender Strat and vintage Fender Mustang all sound great, Any sound is vertually posssible but you must tweak a lot (and try to remember the settings)
Shitloads of gain, and more... if that's your bag. Clean channel as good as Marshall has produced. Cannel 3 for lead only just too much gain for any chordwork..particuarly with the hum-buckers,but what tone!!!, the channel 2 crunch is dynamic with heaps of headroom, immatates other marshall models supprisingly well.

Reliability : 8
Should always keep spare valves as a back up, no matter what type of amp, however switching to 50 wattt mode will get you through a gig should a power valve fail. (has not happened yet) The gain pot on the Lead channel (3) is getting quite crackly, like everything else service is the solution.
All the buttons and switches always mean more can go wrong in reality.

No repairs required yet

this amp is sweet! made in 1997 it has enough to keep me satisfied in my pustuite of many musical styles. with 3 channels( clean , crunch and lead) It has an effects loop witch keeps the sound in check, wether you are using a processor, individual pedals, wah pedals, volume controls( all of wicth i use) it sounds complete with "effects dial"! presence& a and b switches on each channel i use to enhace my sound. Only thing missing i s a reverb coil built in on the amp. for 1000 person less crowd this amp is plenty loud enough!

Sound Quality : 9
Sound is complete! avoid single coil pick ups with this amp!! it just magnifies the crappyness of your guitar(as does with any amp). i use dimarzio pickups in a ibanez and seymour duncan( humbuckers) in a fender and the sound is complete and fullfilling in a nonbuzzing way!! there is no distorting when the guitar is plugged straight in! when using effects some problems may arise, but output controls may solve problem. Distortion is sweet just like any marshall. no problem finding the sound i wanted with this amp

As reliable as yo mother!! Consider changing tubes soon after purchase(will make adifference)(groove tubes, mesa, good choice) it has never broken down on me in 5 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! damn that is a good streak!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Built in 1992, and i just bourght it, second hand, a month ogo.

I play a little bit of country, a lot of Rock and Roll, and no insane Metal trash at all.
Main musicstyles: Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Free, Queen, Santana, Procul Harrum, Booker T, Eagles, and our own music.

The amp are played live thru a powerful PA system.
Together with the other musicians backing amplifiers and the stage monitors they are all used as the stage sound.
Each backing amp has a line out to the Main PA, for amplification addresed only to the audience.
We are rehearsing and recording at our Studio, with the same backing setup and stage monitors, but without the Main PA system.

The Amp has all the features jou will ever need, 3 chanel preamp, midi swiching, effect loop vith effect blend for each of the 3 chanels, Line out, 100W all tubes, 1/2 power switch and pentode/triode power switch.
Thank good for the 1/2 power switch, 100w is simply to loud to create the right rock tones in rehersal and studio enviroments, and the pentode/triode Switch dosn`t make much difrence to my ears, therfore i allways run the amp on 1/2 power and Pentode mode (50w).

Sound Quality : 8
I use a Gibson Les Paul 1957 Gold top Delux with original Picups, with a homemade preamp, built in. The Guitar preamp is used only to raise the signal not to distort it, therfore i allways sets the guitar preamp at almost full volume,(flat out creates a lot of noise) and a minimum of input to keep the guitar preamp transistors away from distortion.
The Amp has standart 5881 power tubes. They sound great for clean setting (sparkling clean Fender), Crunch Rythm sounds exelent lot of punch (real Britt Roar) just like my Xox AC30TB.
But they are impossible to cranke to that singing Marshall lead Sound, with a lot of sustain.
The 5881 power tubes dosn`t give enough output distortion even set at 1/2 power and Triode mode (25w)
a part of the problem is due to the speakers i use, wich is Celestion GT75w.

Reliability : No Opinion
No problems so far.

My only cotact With Marshall UK. is to download a users manual from there Manual page.

Overall Rating : 8
I have ben playing Guitar for allmost 30 years, allways on the Vox AC30TB, for the first two years on a Fender telecaster copy, the rest of the time on the Les Paul.
I have tyed amps like Fender 60W Combo, Hiwatt 100W head, Carlsbro 100w head, but in spite of a long lasting wish, i hawe never before, played on a Marshall 100w head, until i bourght tis on.
I like the posibilaty of letting a Multieffektboard, midiswitch
betwene the 3 chanels, set up for clean, crunch, and lead, sound and volume, therby creating the distortion in the amplifier, and simultaniusly coloring the sound with Revebe, ekko, corus, flanger, pitch bend, octave, or wah, in loop before the poweramp.
The lak of powertube saturation and sustain, i exspect to overcom, by at first, changing the powertubes from 5881 to EL 34, second by changing the speakers to celestion Greenback 25 or vitage 30.
By then, "i hope" i wil be able to submit a new rewiev for this (Fender, Vox, Marshall) all in on Amplifier, rated at 10.

Mine is the model covered in Blue Tolex, which I believe was the first run of these amps. Pretty much standard issue. Three midi footswitchable channels, Clean Crunch & Lead. Seperate eq for all three channels. Channel two has three modes which really make this head versatile. Ability to take wattage down to 50 or 25 watts, very cool. Tons of other features that have already been mentioned below.

Sound Quality : 9
Using with a Charvel Traditional guitar. I bought one of these amps about six years ago (was one of the other models with the black tolex and the Lead Mod) and was not very happy with the reliabilty. The lead channel blew up twice on me and the bill was over $200.00 each time so I traded it in for a Soldano Decatone. Well I needed that Marshall sound once again so I found a reasonable deal on one of the originals covered in blue tolex and thought I would give it another shot. Wow, I am sure glad I did. I forgot how good the Clean channel was. With my Charvel I can go from Clean to Mean. The Shimmer and warmth from the Clean channel alone is worth the money I spent. Channel 2 Is perfect for any kind of rhythm sound you would ever need. I can get a very close Van Halen I tone from channel 2 with the power tubes breathing hard. Channel 3 is perfect for those Lukather/Neil Schon/Satriani Leads, Absolutely killer tone, hands down the best amplifier I have ever played through, I have owned or played the following, Peavey 5150 Good Solid Rhythm machine thats it though, Marshall TSL100 Lots of Bells $ whistles but couldn't get a good creamy lead from it, Fender Hot Rod Deville 4x10 combo, Excellent clean but thats it Distortion channel sucked. Soldano Decatone Very good amplifier however Clean was not near as good as the Marshall, and has a edge to the tone that I could never dial out. Still a very very respectable amp, for a more modern sound this amp would probably be a better choice than the Marshall but for my style and taste the Marshall wins out. I use the head with a 1960 cab loaded with 25 watt Greenbacks, That is what makes this amp so nice. These speakers are not as loud as the Vintage 30's and the lower power rating makes these speakers distort faster and the compression is perfect for making those leads sustain with fat tone. The sound is so much different than the Vintage 30's which I have had in the past. I love this setup.

Reliability : 7
So far so good have had about a month. My previous purchase was not reliable at all and was very expensive to fix. This model seems to run alot cooler than the other model so maybe I will be alright. I hope so because the tone is to die for. Keep the amp cool and I think that will keep the reliablity Ok.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with them

Overall Rating : 9
Been playing on and off for eight years. Kind of a bedroom noodler, I do appreciate good tone however and this amp fills all my expectations of what a amp should be. For this amp covers every spectrum I can imagine. With the Greenback speakers it is more voiced towards a warm tone with a vintage vibe. With the Vintage 30's you could probably have a tone with a little more bottom end better suited for modern music. This would be replaced in a heartbeat if I could find one! If anybody is wanting to buy one of these heads and wants to hear it I will make some sound clips and email them to you if you would like. My email is DMARBURGER@Cox.NET
