It's not really versatile; good distorted sounds but crappy clean sounds. Controls are typically Marshall. VERY loud for its size.

Using a guitar with humbucking pick-ups (ESP Mirage, Parker Fly, Carvin DC127, Ibanez 7-string) this amp produces a rather brutal distortion similar to Slayer's guitar sound, even at low gain levels. The clean sound absolutely sucks though- humbuckers have a tendency to distort the sound. Also stay away from the distortion with weak single coils...

The first one I had crapped out several times but Marshall replaced it (that was over 10 years ago) and that one's been fine.

This amp was what I learned to play on; I purchased a Mesa-Boogie 50 caliber half stack (wow that's 10 years ago now) for my main amp. That clean sound was fantastic but the distortion was weak. Anyway, the Mesa broke down and I needed to use an amp- I plugged the old(er) 75 reverb into the cabinet I was using as a backup. Since I was playing metal type stuff then I quickly found out that the Marshall ruled. Since then I've only used Marshalls- from a Valvstate head to the JMP-1 rack preamp. The 75 reverb is great for a particular type of distortion and I would recommend buying one if you can find it used

This amp has two channels and reverb. It has a footswitch to change channels and turn on/off reverb. It has a 12 inch Celestion. It has an effects loop and a headphone jack. It is a 75 watt amp which is plenty loud for what I do. It's a great rock/metal amp in the higher gain channel, and the clean channel is sounds pretty good, too. (It's no twin though) Oh, it has master volume too.

I like to play classic rock and blues, and I think this amp actually suits me pretty well. It gets a little noisy when you turn up the gain, but you can't hear it while you're playing. It also picks up a radio station when it's really turned up, but my last amp did that too. (It might be the area) The distortion is not (very NOT) solid state-like. It can get a smooth creamy distortion at high volume in the clean channel and the other channel can go from lightly distorted to the tone Marshall is known for. I play a Fender Strat through it, and it sounds pretty damn good.

What can I say? It's solid state. I wouldn't worry about a backup with this amp. I've had it fro a couple of months now and it's been perfect the whole time.

I would buy it again in a heartbeat. It has the price of a practice amp and the features of something a lot more expensive. The only thing I don't like is.. well, nothing. I wish I could find another, so I could have one playing clean and the other distorted. (in stereo)
