Sound Quality : 10
I want to bump up my rating on this amp because the sound quality has proven itself time and time again now that I've had the opportunity to get a good 10 gigs under its belt. Always a consistent and quality sound under various room conditions. See other rating as to tonal qualities...still a winner with my Ovation!

Reliability : 10
Here's another bump up on the rating. It has held together quite well through gigs and back and forth to practices. Changes in temp and "road" conditions as well as gig conditions have proven it roadworthy...trusted piece of gear.

Customer Support : 10
I have not had to call Marshall yet with this amp, and I do not expect too. But past dealings have always been positive...

Overall Rating : 10
Again, see previous rating, but as an update I consider this amp solid and consistent. It sounds fantastic and gives me the what I need for the acoustic gig at the cafe'. I do a bit of lead playing on the Ovation and it responds great with this amp. I get good solid tone and good sound projection. Very "surround" and toneful...I always get positive comments as to my sound and the quality it gives to my performance...a real musicians amp.

Simply stated, 2 channels, one for your guitar, one for your microphone (or aux input CD Player/Drum Machine). Excellent digital chorus and reverb that can be split or blended between the two channels. Nice if you only want chorus on guitar and a blending of the reverb on the mic and guitar. Plenty of in and outs on the back. Love the line out (to hook up a tuner)and the DI out to go to the PA. Great features and SIMPLE to operate, Great bang for the buck. The EQ is adequate, see comments on sound.

Sound Quality : 9
Clear, full of body in all tonal ranges. Closed back cabinet really gives it a fullness, almost a "surround" feel. Despite the smaller cabinet and small speakers, plenty of bottom end. High's are nice and "chimey" and sweet sounding. I play an Ovation Elite, with on-board EQ, and this amp interacts very very well. As for the mic, it comes across evenly between the guitar and vocals. Projects the vocals well and has a nice gain with the mic. A bit more bottom end on the vocals, but tweek the bass and it comes in, just enough. Vocal "cut" through nicely and project. Again, bang for the buck!

Reliability : 9
Ok, it's made in China. But the quality control with Marshall is there in full force. Built solid. I only played out once with it and no problems. It's all Marshall and all the good that comes with that.

Customer Support : 10
Marshall, Industry Standard, enough said.

Overall Rating : 10
If you are looking for a small, great sounding acoustic amp to play some clubs with, coffe house, church group, or just to practice at home and in the studio; this is the amp. Bang for the buck and easy to carry. I love it and want another one to run stereo. Thank you Marshall.

The new (for 2007) AS50D replaces the AS50R as the entry-level acoustic amp from Marshall. Physically identical to it's predecessor, the only differences between the old and the new are (apparently) a new tweeter, phantom power to the mic input (voltage not specified in handbook) and the Chorus and Reverb are now digital (hence the "D" I suppose). Spec-wise, nothing appears to have changed from the previous model, it's still rated at 50w into 4ohms, so refer to descriptions of the AS50R (saves me typing it all in again) - all the features and inputs/outputs are as for the AS50R. Still built like the proverbial brick out-house, this amp oozes quality despite it's "made in China" tag. Love the chunky leather handle - doesn't amount to a hill of beans but this amp has all the "cred" you'll ever need - looks a million bucks. A Headphone socket would have been nice - Laney have them, Fenders and Marshalls don't - go figure

Sound Quality : 10
Makes my guitar (an Aussie-made Maton EM325C with AP5 active pick-up) sound like my guitar, only louder - what more could I want? Clear and clean is how I describe it. Chorus (adjustable for speed & depth) and Reverb are the only "distortions" available - the Chorus is beautiful and hugely adjustable, Reverb works as Reverb should with plenty of range. Amp instrument channel (CH1) is silent unless the treble is wound up, can't speak for mic channel (Ch2) as I don't use it.
Mainly I play Blues, with a bit of soft-cock rock/pop and Folk for variety.
Good anti-feedback control (Phase and notch with variable freq) which is easy to use and very effective.
Haven't cranked gains or volumes above "5" cos I don't need to, and don't want to.
This amp reproduces the highs, lows and mid-range of my guitar beautifully. I trialled Fender Acoustasonic 30DSP, Laney A1 & Laney 65C before settling on the AS50D, simply coz my guitar sounded more natural through the Marshall. To my ears, the Fender sounded a bit "woolly", the Laney A1 sounded great but you'd need a uni-degree to drive it, the Laney 65C sounded very good, but the Chorus was weak and Reverb virtually non-existent. The Marshall ended up costing me only AUD$100 more than the Laney 65C, and significantly less than the Fender and A1.

Reliability : No Opinion
Don't gig (still waiting for the phone to ring) so only use this thing at home for my own entertainment. It's a Marshall, it should outlast me. Too new to comment either way.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Hasn't needed any attention and I don't expect it to, as it leads a gentle life. My local dealer (Music 4 Life) supports what they sell so don't anticipate any probs

Overall Rating : 10
Been playing off and on for over 30 years. As mentioned previously I play an Australian-made Maton EM325C with AP5 active pick-up. Beautiful guitar with beautiful tone. Previous guitars include Fender and Yamaha acoustics and I had a short affair with a Squier Strat for a while before returning to my acoustic roots. My Maton is my first Acoustic/Electric. Lost or stolen, I replace it with another AS50D - it and my Maton go together like strawberry's and cream.
As previously mentioned, I tried a Fender Acoustasonic 30DSP, Laney A1 and Laney 65C before settling on the Marshall. I'd have bought the Marshall even if it had cost twice as much - at the price I paid, it's heaven on a stick. I love the damn thing.
