All sorts of features. The amp features four EL84's and four ECC83's. This is a DSL, so of course there is the dual lead channels. The first channel, overdrive one is for crunch, and the second channel is for heavier distortion. By switching to the second lead channel, the dB rating goes up by twenty. There are separate controls for the clean and the overdrive channels. The OD channels feature a gain and a volumne knob. The footswitch for the channels is included with the amp. There is a separate reverb footwithch which is optional. There is a control for the effects mix. Has fx loop. The one 12" can be detached and the amp can be used as a head (that's if you want to run a 40w head). Master volumne of course. Basically this amp has everything, except a prescence control, a rare omission for a Marshall.

I'm running a '94 Fender with the stock singles. The clean channel is quite good for a Marshall, not Fender quality of course, but it holds its own. I've read that when the volumne is cranked, the clean gives a nice little blues overdrive sound. The clean stays clean up to about five. The first overdrive channel gives off great crunch, it's the channel I use most often. No complaints here. The second overdrive gives off massive distortion. When the volumne is raised, the gain has to be leveled off, or else you get nothing but distortion. The solid state rectifier gives this channel a good punchy sound, it's perfect for Metallica and the like. The channel is perfect for solos. Both OD channels are actually, it just depends on how much gain you want in your solos. Good sustain. The amp isn't too noisy. The amp is pretty versatile, I can get Jimi, Zeppelin, Rage and Metallica out of it so I'm happy. The tone knobs are good, they can contour the sounds heavily.

Five year warranty. Three years on the Celestion speaker (GoldBack). The amp is relatively new. Nothing has spooked me yet.

No contact with Marshall.

I've been playing for two years. I've played through and heard a few other amps, and this one sounds just as good or better. Very close in sound to the JCM-900. If it was stolen I'd force the theif to put his testicles on the EL84's until all of his fish died. It's a great value. A Marshall tube amp with for only $700 has been unheard of till this amp came out. Before this you had the high end Valvestates to choose from, and that ain't good. Marshall did well by bringing out such a good amp for so little. I compared it to the JCM-600, but that amp cost $120 more, and I thought the sound was just as good on the DSL and I liked the DSL's dual leads. I also compared it to the Fender reissues and the Line6 Flextone. The Fender's cost too much, and I'd have to get a stompbox for distortion, and the Line6 is too complicated. This amp is very straightforward. I don't need all the sounds that have ever been produced by an amplifier. If I wanted a Vox or a Boogie or a Fender, I would have bought one of those. A presence control would have been nice. A 2x12 version would have been cool too, but you can always run an extension cabinet to it. The load can be dropped to eight ohms to increase the wattage into the cabinet too. Lastly, the amp recieved an Editor's Pick award from Guitar Player magazine.

2 channels traditional eq on both channel clean -> gain channel 1 -> gain channel 2 footswitch provided reverb 40 watt Quite versatile

Sound Quality : 10
Its suits shred - 80's metal - blues - *black star sound* ... Vai soun d... great for everything I tried both the Dsl401 and the dsl 201 . Basically they are the same , but the dsl401 has 2 more power tubes , and it can connect to a full stack . The dsl401 also a double "higain" channel , the second position allows to 20 Db more.
What great sound can you *really*get with this amp ???
Good clean sound , and I do mean *clean* sound . not shit You can get anything from light overdrive , to heavy overdrive , to 80's metal distortion , from Slayer's ultra distorted sound to Y.J Malmsteen *black star sound* ...
The tone knobs do work well . Theres just one speaker , but again , its a combo : 40 watt . If you want to get the most of this amp , connect to a half stack , or a full stack . There result will be excelent , because you can get all the saturation of the preamp and power amp tubes ... but the speakers wont making horrible noise since you feed them with the equivalent of a 40 watt head . The reverb is ok , but then , if you want good reverb , you can get a lexicon thing or something like that . Great amp , great sound !

Reliability : 8
Its quite solid I think altough the wood is composite. As any amps , tubes must be changes sometimes unless you posses the mystical secret of *eternality* ...

I dont really know... 1 year warranty

I believe this amp is great ... though , reverb isnt great Its cool because You can use it as a 40 watt head . This will keep the sound musical in spite of extremely heavy overdrive. (UN)FORTUNATELY ... I was given a half stack by a friend !!! I dont need this amp anymore and im selling it for 350 Us $. For more info check my site: Im putting out a site about this amp at http://listen.to/somnium
IF it was stolen , I would find out who did it , put his head between two half stacks , put evrythin' on 10 including reverb , and play little savage until he dies
