2 channels with 2 separate modes on each channel. Unfortunately only footswitchable between 2 channels. I plan to rectify this soon. Shared EQ section. I have rectified any problems in this regard with by compensating with the user presets in my multi-effects unit which I use in the effects loop. This amp has tons of power at 50 watts (in practise I run it with the master volume on about 3).

Sound Quality : 9
I use a Fender Lone Star Stratocaster with Texas Special pickups in the neck and middle position, and a Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates humbucker in the bridge position. I play mainly bluesy rock and for the amp is ideal for this. I can get an incredible array of sounds from crystal clean through to Gary Moore style overdrive. I previously owned a JCM 900 which I thought sounded quite nice until I played this. The most notable feature of the sound is the detail and 'glassiness' of the tone. Compared to my previous amp, this really becomes evident when you switch pickups, as the difference in tones really shows. This kind of sensitivity makes it a real joy to play. I use the head with 2 2x12 cabinets and it has enough bottom end to cause an earthquake.

Reliability : 7
I haven't had it for very long (About a month). The day I got it I found out that the reverb wasn't working, but a quick trip to the repairer saw it fixed promptly under warranty. It turned out to be a broken wire. The repairer said they looked far better made than the 900 series, although I never really had any problems with mine.

So far, no problems.

Overall Rating : 9
Overall a very nice amp. I have a friend who is a real died-in-the wool Marshall JCM 800 man and he was absolutely blown away by this amp. The usual criticisms apply: Needs footswitching for the 2 Modes from the factory and more EQ versatility. It's got much more treble than I will ever use (I run the treble on '2.5'). I also long for the half power switch of my JCM 900 as it would be nice to push the power amp a little harder. Nevertheless, it sounds great to my ears.

Two channels and within each channel two selections, clean/crunch and lead1/lead2. Channel switching between channels but not within them. Separate reverb for both channels. Single EQ for both channels. Series effect loop with level switch for effectsunits or stompboxes. Deep switch which gives you bass boost and a tone shift feature that scoops out the mids. The lack of modeswitchin within the channels is why I gave it an 8.

Sound Quality : 9
I only use telecaster type guitars, my main guitar is a fender tele reissue '52, and my backup is a blade thinline with a seymour duncan little '59 humbucker. I play alternative rock from Foo Fighters to Metallica and this amp has all the sounds I need (at the moment), all four modes have very usable sounds, the sound can go from very clean to very VERY brutal distortion. But the thing I like the most about it's tone is that it cuts through in the mix with my other bandmembers. BTW, I never give a 10 because there's no such thing as a perfect amp or whatever.

Reliability : 9
About reliability, the first thing I did when I got this amp was to take it to my amp tech, not that it broke down, but to build in the lacking modeswithcing with seperate volume controls for each mode...anyway, he told me that these amps are indeed less reliably built than the jcm900 who on it's hand was less reliably built than the jcm800 etc etc...but he told me not to worry, I would probably had to bring in the amp for servicing after about two years, but I have all my amps serviced once a year so there shouldn't be a problem...

Customer Support : 2
I always go to my own amp-tech so I really don't know, but the marshall website sucks big time so I'll give my rating for that...

Overall Rating : 9
I would definately buy this amp again. I have used an ADA MP-1 Preamp, Marshall JCM-800 2204, Peavey Classic 50 Full stack, VOX AC30TB limited edition (with blue alnicos and red tolex covering) lots of distortion pedals. This amp covers all the sounds I need today. As I told earlier, I've had modeswithcing built into the channels with seperate volumecontrols per mode, so I actually have sort of a four channel amp with one common tone-control section, I'm ecstatic about this amp. I threw out the reverb though, because I use a TC-electronic G-force for all my external effects... Oh, yes, almost forgot, I use this amp with a peavey 5150 cabinet..I have tried the marshall's, but the peavey gave me more punch and a better bass response. The marshall cabinets sound to crisp in the highs and to blurry in the lows to my ears...

50W all tube head, two channels, foot swichable, separate reverb for both channels, shared EQ for both channels, effects loop, deep switch gives you extra bass for "stack sound" at low volumes, tone shift scoops out the mids for metal tone. This amp is the one head I have been waiting for. It has a best clean sound I've ever heard from a Marshall and a huge variety of distrotion capabilities. If you could only have one amp than this would be it. Ideal for any style of music from Garth Brooks to Van Halen to Metallica and beyond. This is the first Marshall that I have tried that lives up to the hype.

Sound Quality : 10
I use a Fender American Strat with Lace Sensor pickups and a Fender Floyd Rose Classic with a Dimarzio PAF Pro and American Standard single coil pickups. I run the amp through a cloased back Marshall 2/12 cabinet. I play mostly 80's to 90's rock/alternative and this amp is perfect. It is capable of playing anything out there in my opinion. It is also very quiet even when the Ultra Gain is maxxed out which is a real plus.

Reliability : No Opinion
I just got the amp so I don't know how reliable the amp is but I've always heard great things about Marshall amps.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I haven't had any contact with Marshall yet.

I would definately buy this amp again! I've played guitar for 10 years and have used evertyhing from an ADA MP-1 Preamp, Digitech GSP-21, 5150 combo and half stack, Marshall VS-100 Valvestate, Marshall JCM-900, Peavey Classic 50, Fender Blues Junior and tons of distortion pedals. This amp covers all the sounds I need or have ever wanted. The 5150 has a great dirty sound but is too noisy, the Fender Blues Junior has an amazing clean tone but lacks the volume and bass punch needed for live applications. The Marshall DSL 50 does it all. After owning a JCM900 I thought I would never buy a Marshall again, this is the amp that changed my mind. I can now get rid of my warehouse of amps and concentrate on my playing. If it was only around 10 years ago then I would be a richer man!!!

50W all tube head, two channels and within each channel two selections, i.e. clean/crunch and lead1/lead2. Channel switching between channels but not within them. Separate reverb for both channels and switch pedal included. Single EQ for both channels, I wish they had separate. Series effect loop, have not used it yet so I could not tell you. Deep switch available to give you bass boost its very useful at low volume. It also has a tone shift feature that scoops out the mids Metallica fans will love this feature. The most versatile Marshall head I've ever played. Clean channel is the best Marshall has ever produced, very nice and could stack-up against any Fender/Boogies. Lead1 renders most distortion pedals useless, this thing has gain like you would not believe. Lead2 is tear-paint-of-the-wall distortion, I personally can't see the need for so much of it but guys into Pantera, etc. will love it. For a 50W head it is VERY VERY loud.

Sound Quality : 10
Very quiet at high gain setting. Like I mentioned before very impressive clean channel and distortion resources. This is defenetively the most versatile amplifier I have ever played. The tone is amazing, on one side you have typical Marshall distortion available to you even at bedroom practice levels, and YES! the deep switch will give you that extra thud. On the other side you can switch to clean/crunch for bluesy/chunky playing. Before the 50W heads came to the stores I played the 100W version several times and even though they were nice at higher volumes (what I could do on the store for a brief time approx. 2) they were "nasal" at low volumes. The 50W plays VERY nice at low volumes and gets ever fatter and meaner at higher volumes, for a 50W its got plenty of headroom.

Reliability : No Opinion
Nothing yet, except for a above normal clinging reverb coil. After talking to Marshall tech support they mentioned that the JCM2000 family is all like that. I checked a 100W head and another 50W at the store and they were all that way. Its just that the 900 and aniversary series were not as rattly.

Customer Support : 10
Only talk to them about this series once.

Overall Rating : 10
I love it cannot see any reason to get any other amps. For the next few years. Good job and good product.

2 channel amp with two modes per channel, seperate reverb controls for the two channels but the eq and presence controls are shared, a deep switch for a bass boost, a tone shift switch that helps for that scooped metal sound, effects loop, and it comes with a footswitch to change between channels.

Sound Quality : 10
I'm using it with a Les Paul and an Ibanez S540LTD and with this amp, I can easily get a very nice warm clean with a good reverb sound to a slightly distorted blues sound to a monster of a distortion tone. I play alot of different kinds of music (old and new blues, 70's & 80's rock, some alternative, modern heavy metal) and this amp can deliver. It even sounds great at low volumes and when you turn it up, it gets even fatter. If you can stand the volume of it, the distortion cranked to 10 is heavenly.

Reliability : No Opinion
Just recently bought it and I'm the only person I know who has one so I cant answer answer this one. I've had no problem so far.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Like I said, I havent had any problem but I will note that it has a 3 year warranty on the labor and a 5 year warranty on the parts.

Overall Rating : 10
I would buy it again without thinking twice. This amp has all the right tones for me and if you like that Marshall distortion sound, this amp is for you. It has the EL34 tubes like the older Marshalls and I believe this is one reason why it sounds so much better than the JCM900's. The only possible thing about it that isnt perfect is the shared EQ controls and the footswitch only changes between the different channels and not the different modes in each channel. I knew that when I bought it but I can live with it and if you heard this amp with a Les Paul (perfect match) you probably wouldnt care either.
