This amp was made in 1990. It just suits my needs as it fully drives my Engl 412 S to blow away everyone near it. I mainly play rock or metal. It features an half/full rate switch on the back as well as an impendance switch ( 4, 8, 16 Ohm ). On the frount we have gain ( to match you preamp), presense (totally useless) and standby and power.
This baby offers plenty of power for low cost. Its stero but I just feed mono into it as I only got one 4x12 and stero wouldn't make any sence. As it just produces does whats I expect it to do I give it a 10.

Sound Quality : 9
First I've to state that my Digitech 2120 totally annoys me due to its digital and harsh sounding output. Now I've trown together a few peadls and the sound is just amazing. The amp doesn't add much unwanted coloring to the sound. I've only noticed a slight rolloff in the low end. But this maybe due to the tubes which seem to be original... and never needed to be replaced. Its not noisy but it produces a strong magnetic field around it which is may be picked up buy your guitar (even my emg 81 does). Slight squealing sometimes but this is just a sign for: Replace the darn tubes dumpass ;-)
The amp doesn't distort that much. Only when driven really loud...

Reliability : 10
Never broke, first tubes - What do I need to say ? Never used a backup as I could easily plug my board directly in the desk....

Customer Support : No Opinion
Don't know.... never dealed with them. Buyed it used 3 years ago. Had only to open it and remove the thick layer of dust...

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for 5 years and beside the Engl 412S its the best piece of equipment I've ever payed for. Not as costy as new Tube Amps but rather big with 4 HE and *H*E*A*V*Y* !
If it would be stolen I would just need to look for people with a backache as its really heavy. I would buy it again if I would find it again but thats hard. Maybe try a 6l6-Amp isntead....
I've never felt in love with my equipment, so I cant tell if I love or hate it... Equipment is always a love/hate-relationship.
At first I had a solid state amp but I always worried if I would break anything if I crank it up. No problem anymore.. I can turn up the volume fully unscrupulous without carring for the amp or box.
The price makes this amp a perfect deal....

bought it used. Features 4 knobs- 1 volume and 1 presence for each channel. Full/half power switch. 2 Standby switches. 1 power switch. 2 inputs, 4 speaker outs, ohm selectors, link outs. For a power amp, it has everything you need to pump a preamp sound thru some speakers. Also used it as a slave. I give it a 9 because it does not have a resonance knob, but it does not need it.

Sound Quality : 10
I will evaluate the sounds in two modes- half and full power Half Power- clean sounds sound springy and sustain very well thanks to the El34's. Power amp set at halfway gets some clipping. Full setting with a clean sound gets enough clip for some rock and roll rythym. Adding distortion and heavy output from a preamp makes this thing get nice and chunky, but loose. Single notes get sustainy and fat. Overall- half sound a little darker and more saturated than full power, just like it should. Full Power - clean sound sparkle-nice high end, solid lows, dial your mids from the preamp. Power amp halfway yields a very slight crunch with a clean setting, excellent articulation from a distortion setting. Full tilt is the real deal. Clean sounds sustain and crunch on the low strings with full bass and excellent upper midrange and presence-right were the harmonics come out. Distorted preamp sounds turn very chunky, tight and focused. Single notes sustain and feedback like the best of them. Nice and tight, jumping harmonics, and an overall hyperactive sound. Remember that the sounds of your preamp dictate your eq and main drive settings, but this power amp is capable of adding character in the ways listed above. Does just what I need it to.

Reliability : 8
After getting rid of one set of faulty Grove Tube EL34's(which GT did cover under a warrantee), this has been a good unit. I always carry a JCM800 2203100w tube 2x12 combo for backup, but I have yet to have a reliability prob with the amp itself, it was the tubes that were messin with me. It is a marshall, so I have to give it an 8 for reliability, I expect it to blow up at some point.

never dealt with em

I have run an ADA MP1, Mesa Boogie Studio Preamp, and now Rocktron Chameleon thru this power amp. Speaker cab is a Marshall 2x12 1922- 2 75w celstions wired for stereo or mono. All preamps sounded good thru this power amp. Like I said in the sound section, this power amp really adds sonic character to the preamp sound. the ADA was nice and chunky with good sustain and harmonics- crunch heaven, the Mesa was very tight and still maintained the signature mesa midrange(talk about the answer to that question Which is better Marshall or Mesa? i couldnt decide so i used both.), the rocktron chameleon gets ringing clean or absolutely wicked distortion crunch. Also, the rocktron tube emulation distortion is damned good, any doubts are quaffed by the marshall all tube power. HAHAHa
Just a couple cool things about this- its 2 50 watt amps in one box. I had one side fail due to the tubes during a gig. Oh shit you may think? No way - I simply changed the ohm rating on the remaining channel that worker and plugged it into the speaker box. Instead of the 2 50 watters, I played the whole gig with one, and the sound was still excellent. Also, the link outs alllow the preamp signal to be routed to another power amp source. I run the chameleons stereo outs into the power amp in stereo. When i need more power for a bigger gig, I run the link outs into my trusty old marshall combo mentioned above. When running into both inputs of the combe, they act as the low gain inputs, i set the 50/50 powere amp the the level I need, and then for more juice, set the marshall combo acordingly. Or you could buy another power amp and link it to that for more juice. Overall, a very tasty piece of gear.Value is excellent cuz you can find em used for less than 400 beans.
