Made in 2005, I can't imagine a more versatile amp, because if you don't like something you just let the factory know and they'll change it. Mine started out as a 60 watt head (which was more that enough)and had 2 el34's and 2 6550's. This sounded great, but the el34's got going quicker than the 6550's and ended up being screwed really fast. dave Green did some tinkering and gave me more bass and middle and did some other magic so now my amp runs at 91 watts!?
This amp is a single channel amp but it has a boost which is switchable, so I use this for my distorted sound and the boost off for my cleanish sound.

I use gibson SG's and Explorers, and play doom/stoner/blues/rock/metal/sludge.....blah blah blah.
This is amp super quiet and gives a really thick, full sound. there really isn't anything quite like a Matamp.

Shot a few valves but I crank the amp almost full on the master so what do expect. Anything that has needed doing has been done at the factory (usaully while I waited!)
This amp is built how amps should be built and I'd guess that after a nuclear war there'd be cockroaches and Matamps left!

No one can match Matamp on their customer service, I've never dealt with such a helpful and friendly company.
The score for this should be 100/10

I've been playing for about 16 or 17 years, and this is the amp I've been searching for, I really would never need a differnet amp. the only thing i would do in the future is get another cab and maybe a slave for poser value... well why not!? If this amp were ever stolen I would sell my soul to replace it.

This is the 1st of the new Matamp GTL 60 watt UK models built in 2005.I pre-ordered mine whiler it was still in development, so mine is GTL #1.
The amp comes stock as an all tube 4 x el34 single channel master volume head, controls are Voice, Gain, Boost, Bass, Mid, Treble, Presence, Volume. I had a footswitchable master volume defeat and boost custom made with mine, although to be honest I don't use them.
This amp may not be bristling with loads of channels and features, but believe me, this is all you need. The original GTL's were 120 watts, but believe me 60 watts is more than enough!!I can't imagine ever needing more power than this, I had a 50 watt Matamp 1224 before this, and the GTL absolutely wipes the floor with it power/volume wise.
I'm gonna give this amp a 10 for features, because this amp suits me perfectly, and has enough features for what I need and the matamp EQ means that it coveres every sound I would ever need.

I play Gibson Les Pauls and I play in a stoner rock/blues band. This amp suits my music and style like no other amp. This is MY sound, I've found it at last!!!The way I've got it dialed in gives me the phattest, dirtiest, sludgiest, warmest most organic tone.Awesome!!!I back off the gain (theres far too much for me anyway) and crank the power section and I get the most awesome brutal power tube thick crunch, sweet organic and harmonic. For this sound, this is the ONLY amp that will give you the right tone.
There's more than enough gain, I can't imagine anyone wanting more, and theres the boost pot to thicken it up even more.
Its not noisy, even with the gain cranked, and if you play with a clean power supply and no interference from strip lighting, computers etc I reckon you could probably get it silent. Its certainly low noise enough for studio recording.
And its versatile too.I can get everything from cleans (its a very powerful amp, so clean headroom is not a problem), 70's rock crunch, bluesy thickness, metal and rock tones. The voice switch and the gain and boost pots with the EQ make this such a versatile amp. This amp is "upgrade proof" for me, as I can safely say this amp covers every kind of music I would ever want to play on it.If you play any sort of rock, this amp covers it, and a few sounds besides that you won't hear from other amps.
And the sound and response of this amp just have to be played to be believed.I've had 3 matamps and I've been playing this one for some months now, and every time I plug in I still can't believe how good it sounds. I'm still passionate about this amp, I've been playing for over 20 years and finally I've found THE amp for me.
I'm giving this a 10 as it excels at every kind of rock, its perfect for the music I play, and it exceeds my expectations every time I plug in.

Matamps are handmade with the best materials and are pretty much bombproof.I've had 3 and all of them have been built to an exceptionally high standard. My 1224 got thrashed round just about every practice room in the north east for a year and a half and it looked and sounded as good as new the day I sold it.These amps are built to last. When you compare the insides of a matamp with any other amp, its a work of art.I wouldn't buy another brand now, as the guts of this amp make amps twice as expensive as this look cheap. Can't imagine needing a backup.Would be nice though, just so I could have 2 GTL's!!!!

Matamp excell at customer service. They want you to be 110% happy with your purchase.I've dealt with Jeff, John, Liz, Dave and Ed a number of times now, and their friendly personal approach to customer service means I keep coming back for more and more amps!!!I've visited the factory a few times now, and its a great trip out.
Any warranty problems are easily sorted out, and if I ever want anything about the amp changed I can get it done for the cost of the parts. You can either send the amp to them or turn up in person and get it done while you wait.I haven't seen another manufacturer do this!!!They've bent over backwards to help me in the past, and I would not hesitate to recomend Matamp to anybody!!
I'm giving Matamp a 10 for having friendly and helpful staff who look after their customners personally.

I've been playing for over 20 years now, and I know exactly what I want from my gear.I play Gibson guitars.I've got 2 les pauls, a custom and a standard, a maxon PH-350 rotary phaser, a catalinbraed SPP boost(for solos) and I'm waiting for my custom wah from Stuart Castledine.I'm serious about my gear and I know what sounds good.
I know exactly what I wantmy gera to sound like, which usually means a lot of trial and error and often means getting stuff custom made.
After YEARS of searching for the perfect amp, I've finally found it.The Matamp GTL.My GTH was good, my 1224 was great, but this amp is PERFECT.I wouldn't compare it to any other product as I don't believe there is a comparison for sound and quality of this standard.
Its absolutely perfect for me, and from day 1 its been left as stock, I haven't needed anything tweaking, unlike my other amps.
I play stoner rock and this amp excells at this, but it can do so much more.If I'd asked Matamp to build a "riffpowers signature" it would be this amp.Its perfect for me.I'm also gonna buy a smaller version for home use, as the Gtl IS MASSIVE in power and volume.
This amp is MINE.It won't be getting upgraded for another model, I don't need to.Its perfect for me.If it got broken/lost/stolen I would be straight on the phone to order another one. This is the only amp I'll ever need, and I can't imagine finding an amp thats more suited to my style or that sounds better than this one.
I'm giving it a 10 as its awesome quality and sound and for a lot less than you'd pay for an equivalent amp from anywhere else!!
