3/4 Back tuned 112 cab, Vinatge 30 - not a Mesa Celestion but one from Celestion UK (looks like it was an aftermarket replacement) Bigger than 112 Widebody. 70 Watt 8 Ohm. Bought used with custom Grille and Covering (Creme and Tan) Looks like old boogie style cabs.

Sound Quality : 10
Sounds amazing - I play a Gibson 57 LP Goldtop RI (and other Gibsons and a Fender USA Strat hardtail before the design "update") thru a Mesa Rocket 44 Head , I have played thru Boogie 112 Widebody cabs w/Cel 90, Mesa 212 vertical half openback with Cel 90's, and Marshall 412 Tall Vinatge RI with 25w Greenback RI. They compare Greenbacks to Vinatge 30's, although they both have their +'s. I *NOW* favor the V30. I think they sound more "woody" and have a more gradual breakup than Greenbacks - to me that makes them 'sound' more vintage. The Celestion 90's come close, but after trying all 3 speakers the V30 sound closest to what I like. I mostly play rock (some blues/jazz) with much vintage tone - barely clean to mild overdrive. I love really classic sounding guitars, amps, and speakers that translate more tone and wood from the guitar and cab. I found a closed back cab was too tight and bassy, openback cabs sounded good but sometimes need a little more resonance, but this 3/4 back design really brings both worlds together for me, warm bottom end and airy enough for the 'verb to do it's magic. One of the best sounding cabs I have played thru and it's only a 112 - this cab can really move some air !!!

It's a speaker cab what could go wrong! Just match your impedances and your amp will be OK.

Customer Support : 9
Mesa is awesome about the personal service, if you call them you WILL get a call back from a real person, can't beat that in an industry that mass produces much it's gear . And they are nice and helpful, I have had great experiences when ever I have had to custom order or just get info. I give them a 9 because no place is perfect and Mesa comes VERY close IMHO.

Overall Rating : 10
Think I will sum it up in one word... AWESOME, I love this cab and knowing it's Mesa I feel good that it will last.

I got mine new for Christmas 2000. It is great for all styles. Has everything you need for a cab.

Sound Quality : 10
Great sounds of a open cab and a closed cab in one. Perfect cab that everyone should use. Better than the mesa 2x12 and 4x12s.

Reliability : 10
Never had any problems.

You should know that mesa is the best.

The cabinet was made in June of 2000. It has one 12 inch Celestion Vintage 30 speaker rated at 70 watts. It is much larger than the usual 1-12 Boogie cab and is even larger than the widebody 1-12 cab measuring 26 1/2" by 19 1/2" (front) by 11 1/2" (deep). The back is semi-closed with a 22 1/2" by 4" cut out at the top and a 10" by 2" rectangular cut out in the lower center.

Sound Quality : 10
The cabinet possesses a blend of the best qualities of both open back and closed back designs. There is a definite low end thump and fullness to the lower register (a strength of closed back designs) yet an open airy quality to the upper register (a strength of open back designs). It sounds much more full and open than any 1-12 cab I've ever heard or even 2-12 cab for that matter (open or closed back). It is very three dimensional and less directional (beamy) than other cabs. If you own a Mesa Boogie Mark IV original body combo and feel that your low end simply isn't happening, read on. When I first started playing out with the Mark IV I paired it with a 4-12 Celestion Modern 70 loaded cab. The blend of the EV and 4-12 Celestions was great but it necessitated carrying a 4-12 cab. Then I bought a Mesa Boogie 1-12 Theile Design cab (EV loaded)for the low end and replaced the EV in the combo with a Celestion Vintage 30. Again the sound was great but it was still a bit too directional (beamy) for my tastes and lacked the afterglow of a good full open back design (think Blackface Fender Deluxe). Then I tried this 1-12 3/4 back cab. It has everything going for it. Now I'm thinking of putting my combo chassis into a Mesa head cab and forgoing all the other stuff. I like it that much. I just have to use 2 output tubes instead of 4 (too much power for the Celestion) which I do most times anyway.

Reliability : 10
I love Mesa Boogie products. Their products are built to last and they do. I have been gigging with my Mark IV since 1995 and it has never failed, not even a hint of a glitch. I regularly change the power tubes when they are a bit tired. Other than that, nothing.

Customer Support : 10
I think that Mesa Boogie should hold seminars for other companies reguarding customer service. Whenever I call they are always friendly, supportive and helpful. If they need to have a technician call me back, one calls within the hour. Top notch customer support.

Simply put -- this is the best and most portable speaker cabinet out there. I have tried 4-12 Mesa Recto cabs, 2-12 Mesa Recto cabs, 4-12 Half-open Celestion 90/EV Mesa cabs, 4-10 Mesa cabs, 1-12 wide-body Mesa cabs, 4-12 Marshall cabs, 4-12 Peavey cabs, 4-12 and 2-12 Fender cabs, and several custom made 1-12 cabs and I still think the same thing... this 3/4 tuned back design is simply the best. It is only bested by it's big brother the 2-12 3/4 tuned back cab. But that one weighs more and takes up more space in the back set of the car. The 1-12 fulfills all my needs. Best value and tone out there.
