Well, it's a cabinet so there aren't a ton of features. But as cabinets go, since it is ported and has the nice mesa screening on it I give it a 10. Extremely well built. My first Mesa product. I presume it won't be the last.

I bought this cabinet used without a speaker (the stock speaker didn't match my Peavey Classic 30's 16ohm external load requirement). I installed Celestion Vintage 30's in my Classic 30 and in this cabinet so they are matched. This cabinet makes my amp sound HUGE. It outworks the amp in loudness and the tone it gives just has an incredible amount of depth to it. I recently recorded with this cabinet mic'd up and no one could believe it is a 1x12. It's that great, really. It sounds kinda like a 4x12 mic'd up from a short distance. I just can't believe how much presence this cabinet made to my amp setup. I have the closed back mesa cab for that punchy quality we rock/progressive/blues players love, and the open airy quality of the open back amp cab. What a fantastic combination.

This thing is one of the most solid pieces of equipment I've ever seen. Everthing is tightly fit together and it just feels solid as a rock. The input jack is quality. So, I don't think there's any question of dependability.

I've been playing on and off for about 12 years. Most seriously the past 3. I haven't owned a ton of gear, but I demand quality from all my stuff, so I compare things before buying them and expect the highest performance from all of my gear. I just can't imagine how a 1x12 extension cab could get any better than this. It is expensive, but the older you get and the more experience you have under your belt, the more you will see that in general, the old principle still applies: in general, you get what you pay for, and quality stuff costs a bit more but will last and won't let you down.

Don't know what year it was made but this thing rocks!
I'm running a Soldano customized Yamaha through it right now.
I'm playing a blend of technical/punk/funk/jazz and it handles it without a hitch.

The amplifire has ton's of gain and output, but the open back cabinet sounded a little thin until I hooked it up to this monster. The combo provides more than enough volume to play small clubs and sounds great miked up in larger venues. It's the only setup I use and it gets weird looks at larger places (it's only a combo stacked on a 1x12) but that changes pretty quickly when I fire it up and start jamming. I always get compliments on the tone, so I can only sing praises for this beastie.

I've been paying for 35+ years and the combination of Ibanez RG-550 (3 of em), EMG pickups, Custom Soldano/Yamaha amp and this cabinet are absolutely the sound I've been looking for. I've owned Marshall, Fender, Traynor and Ampeg but none of those sounds like the rig I got right now.
Is there anything I wish I had?
Sure, a contract would be nice ;)
Maybe an Eventide processor for giggles. Otherwise I'm set.

Mine was a 200w EVM-12L, the legendary EV edge-wound 12" speaker with the huge voice coil and NO SPEAKER DISTORTION. For me it's simkply the best speaker I've ever heard; no coloration of my sound at all.

Mesa/Boogie 1x12 Thiele
I have two of 'em. Bought the first one in the 92 or 93 from the Mesa/Boogie store in Hollywood. That cabinet has an RSA logo. They gave me a choice of speakers (100w or 200w black shadaow) and I chose the 200w EV to run with my 85w Showman head which I use for both bass and guitar depending on if I think I can play bass with only a 1x12. Also use it the my S.O.B. 100w head.
Bought the official Mesa/Boogie one with the 90w celestion to go with my THD Univalve, as the store had the demo set-up that way, in 2002.
The newer cabinet is ever so slightly larger than the one they made 10 years ago. A little longer, same depth. Older one is black carpet with plastic edge guards and the handle is recessed - which I like very much and has a black metal grill. Not daisy chainable (word?)
New one has the daisy chain in/out. It's black toltex with a black cloth speaker cover. Has a doppy little black strap handle on top.

Sounds - both cabinets are very efficient. Have often wondered what the heck is so appealing about the 4x12 cabinets which are huge, ungaily, and very soft. No problem with projection & no distortion.
Cabinet is very well made. I suppose it will last till the end of time.
RSA Thiele cabinet:
For the record I have found the 200w EV (Black Shadow) to be rather "dry" sounding with my S.O.B. head. There's no nice little break-up of the speaker to go with the distortion from the head. However, with the Showman, which has a much fatter, and rounder sound than the S.O.B., it's the sound I want to write home to mother about.
Mesa/Boogie Thiele cabinet:
I really like the sound of the 90w Celestion. Matched to the S.O.B. head it really delivers. The speaker is too big for the little Univalve to push, but the sound is pretty good. (Have switched to a celestion 15W Blue in a 1x12 cabinet for the Univalve - this combination yelds the most amazing sound I have ever heard.) I compared the Thiele to a fender 2x10 cabinet and a Line-6 1x12 cabient in the store and neither gave me a positive impression over the Thiele. The most fun I've had with this cabinet has been to use it with my Peavey Classic 30. Hate the speaker in that amp all by itself, but adding the Thiele removes all my objections. The Classic 30 speaker breaks up way too soon (anything above 4 on the volume pot) but with the Thiele I get a ton of good clean bottum and that break-up from the Peavey. The Thiele's so much more efficient that it out shouts the combo speaker anyway.
Has lots more bass response than an open back cabinet, not surprisingly, and more clarity than a Marshall or Cragte 4x12.

Have been playing since the 60's. Like the head and 1x12 for portability. Don't care that much for open back cabinets, not enough bass response for me. This Thiele design really delivers the most amazing sound for the least amount of equipment. I didn't shop around either time I bought the Thiele and probably there are used ones for a good price. The second one I bought was for it's value as a new item to go with the boutique amp. The first one was purchased because I simply wanted a 1x12 cabinet to go with my S.O.B. head and really I didn't know anything about the Thiele design. Simply thought it was a nice, small tuned cabinet. Have been able to use the Thiele 1x12 in many small group situations, with a horn section, rock'n roll maniacs, & folk/blues formats. Has never failed to sound great, or to deliver enough clear full tone sound.

Thiele Cab with the 12" EV, 200 watt rating. Smaller and lighter than a multi-speaker enclosure (obvious, yes, but this IS a good feature to consider).

The Thiele simply sounds great! I use it with my DC5 and the two complement each other well. Another reviewer here said that it's as if the cab "shoots" the sound straight out the front and is almost too focused...I agree, but only if used alone. In tandem with my DC5 (Mesa-Celestion 90 and open-back combo) the tone is rich and full. Really tight bottom: something I didn't know I was missing with the combo until I got the Thiele. Rock (I don't do metal) sounds big, blues sounds rich and warm, clean is full and sparkly (the "presence" on the amp can really be heard here). Suddenly, I'm finding I WANT to plug in the cab even when not cranking it just to feel the rich, focused tones and tight bottom. Highs are also brighter than the combo; I haven't heard the Celestion Thiele, but I think the EV is the better choice judging from my combo. I don't think there's anyone who would use this cab alone, and because of the closed back I wouldn't recommend it unless you're standing right in front of it. But as a complement to a combo amp, this is an outstanding addition. It sounds huge and full, but can be carried with one hand; you can really suprise people when you show up with "just" a combo and a "little" 1x12 sitting on top of it....visually a diminutive package but with a huge sound! It's no 4x12, but with an open-back combo the Thiele really shines!

I know I said "light," but NOTHING Mesa is light. It's built like the proverbial tank and feels as if carved from a solid chunk of wood...none of which is a surprise to anyone owns Mesa gear (not a plug, just my observation after years of owning/trading a bunch of gear).

Again, if used alone (but who really would) I'd give it a 7, but in tandem with an open-back, definitely a 10. A real bargain when you weigh in its marvelous tone in such a small package.

best speaker: very bright, clear and articulate sound! Big bass! People say that v30 has got big bass. But when you ear those so colled big bass 4x12 cabs, it seems the sound is so indistinct! With the EV, every single note has big definition. No other speaker is so perfect. No clipping. Tight and focused with high gain amplifier (I use 2 ev cabs with soldano 100 watt head and Les Paul standard with emg). You really can ear every note you are playing and still you got the best bass in the world. It cleans up the pre gain into tight, devastating huge sound. I think one day I?ll put 4 EV?s in my Vht 4x12 (straight). I still prefer my 2 thiele mesa 1x12 before my VHT! A 4x12 will be better for EV speakers! A little 1x12 cab, even if so good, it?s not the best choice for hard rock. The ev is, instead, the best speaker! The mesa 1x12 thiele cab is one of the best 1x12 cabs. But it is only a 1x12 cab. The problem is that you really ear that the sound comes from that direction (cab) and it is not around you, like a 4x12 cab. So try to do like Zakk Wylde or Gary Moore: 4 electro voice in a 4x12! Devastation will come! That will surely happen for your money, until EV will be so expensive!

I'm writing this review as a result of my comparing two different Mesa speakers: the standard, 1 X 12" extension with the standard Mesa 90-watt speaker in it and the Thiele cab with the EV. My side by side comparison revealed a much cleaner, full-range sound from the Thiele/EV cab. Bass response was considerably better, and there was a greater sense of the whole sound spectrum from the Thiele. The standard Mesa cab sounded duller or more closed in comparison to the Thiele. I've really A/B this combination multiple times, and every time I like the Thiele better. The only thing that is not completely to my liking is that the Thiele cabinet is so focused in its sound production. It's like the sound shoots straight out of the thing like a beam of light. The standard cab, as would be expected, owing to its open back design, was a more difusse sound, and that made the sound a little more comfortable to listen to. But again, I always come back to the Thiele because of its clean and full reproduction of the sound.
I should add that my comparisons were done with three different Mesas: a Mark IV, a Mark IIC+, and a Triaxis/20/20 combination.

made in 1988.came as a set with my markIII short head.both in Imbuya hardwood box with wicker cane front panel.EVM12L electra-voice 200 watt speaker.Has one 8 ohm jack , no parallel out like the newer models. The cab produces mammoth bass due to the size of the box, and projects a tight, bright sound that is right at home with new-metal and math-core chunky riffing, along with spanky clean rhythm .Excellent reproduction of your guitar sound and your sound won't turn to mush at the back row like some 4-12 cabs I've heard. It's like pulling earplugs out of your ears!

I use a les paul, a strat, and a warlock. One EVM 200watt Thiele can be compare to the horisontal 2-12 recto cab as for as bass is concerned. Either one can out dish a JCM900 cab anyday. Very bright speaker.very clear and articulate, there is no hiding with this in your rig.Add this to your current 4-12 and feel it spearhead your sound.

The look, the sound....PERFECT!

It's a great sounding portable cabinet but as with all mesa gear it's a little pricey .I bought this cabinet to match my DC-3 combo.Although it sounds great with my Mesa head as well ,a mesa head look's a little funny sitting on top of a 1x12 cab .I'm currently shopping for a 2x12 cabinet for the recto head and will most likely go with a Mesa .My other option is to put better speakers in my cheapo 4x12 cabinet but that's another story .
