Seen before
It's the one with two Custom 90 made by Celestion.
The Custom 90s are Celestion at its worst if you like clarity and top end syrup.
I made a huge mistake the cab is fine but those speakers are just wrong for me.

Probably with a really bright amp and a PRS you could get decent tones but my Strat is just too boomy with the PTP amp I am usind.
Far too dark, hard and dull. Awful.

Mesa don't answer E-mails. That's VERY poor for customers far away from the States. Mixed emotions here...

Awful for anyhing else. The cab is very good. Get some less "idiosincraric" speakers please...

This cab is a basic 2-12 with the Mesa custom 90 speakers (celestion). Surprisingly, it is smaller in size than the 1-12 3/4 cab. The impedance is 16 ohms and it has a parallel connection socket for piggybacking speakers. I've had it about a month now and gigged with it five times.

I play a variety of styles ranging from clean blues and country to heavier classic rock. My amp is a Mesa Maverick 35 watt Class A. I found the cabinet to be very dark in comparison to my 1-12 3/4 back Mesa cab.

The quality, as with all Mesa stuff, is tops.

I do not like this cab. The 1-12 3/4 back simply blows it away in terms of clarity, projection, dispersion and output volume. I bought this cab with the intention of using it for outdoor gigs in conjunction with my other cab. This doesn't work too well as this cab is 16 ohms and the 1-12 is 8 ohm. You cannot match these safely to the amplifier outputs without either putting a load resistor on the 8 ohm cab, or replacing the speakers in the 2-12 with 16 ohm units wired in parallel. I was a fool in not checking this at the store, but felt I didn't have to since Mesa advertises all its cabs are of 8 ohm impedance. It sounded good in the store, but that was in a small room hooked up to a Tremoverb. I'll sell this cab and get another 1-12 3/4 back and be done with it. HiG

2001 3/4 back extension cabinet with two 12 inch Celestion Custom 90 speakers (Black Shadow)

I bought the extension cab to use with my Boogie 100 watt Dual Rectifier head (review to come soon). The reasons for buying the extension cabinet were many:
1) Money (I didn't have much of it)
2) Size! I didn't want to have to wheel a full cabinet around everywhere. Also, by spending over $2000 on a setup, I didn't want to leave it in our practice facility. I wanted to bring it home and use it as often as possibe. Granted, this 2X12 is not an imposing sight on stage, but you've got to be realistic. I sounds great and in most clubs you've got only one speaker miked up anyway.
3) Sound - WOW!!!! ('nuf said) I play hard rock/old school metal/"nu" metal/hardcore/jazz/country/etc and this cabinet sounds incredible!

Speaker cabs have no moving parts, so I don't expect this cab to break down anytime soon. The biggest thing I have to worry about is my cats seeing it as a big, new scratching post. I ordered a cabinet cover to prevent this. But, its a Boogie and it's built like a tank, so I don't expect problems anytime soon.

Just bought it, have not had to deal with Mesa/Boogie yet. But, I hope that their reputation (and the money I spent on it) will guarantee a high level of customer support when I need it.

Overall.....WOW! I would definitely buy this cab again. A full back would have given me more thump, but the 3/4 back gives me a little more versatility. If you don't need the look (and pain associated with) a half stack, then buy this!

Play various humbucker equipped Strats, and a Telesonic. I play through a Mesa Boogie Trem-O-Verb head. When you first see this cab you think, "man, is it small!". But it can more than handle what the my amp has to give. Sounds huge. Great low end for such a small and modular cab. After I got it home I A/B'd it with my 4x12 Recto cab. I doesn't have quite the low end THUMP that the 4x12 had, but it's damn close. Also, my Recto cab is much brighter sounding with it's Vintage 30 speakers. The 2x12 is more even sounding, clean or with distortion, and notes seem to be a bit more articulate through the Custom 90's. The partial open back design gives it some airy depth, which lends it's self nicely to clean tones. Boy,...I really do like it a lot! Excellent cab!

If you take care of your Mesa gear, it will be good to you in return. I'm sure I will have no problems. Will give it a 9 due to the "unknown factor".

Been playing seriously for 12-13 years. I also own a Fender Custom Vibrolux Reverb amp, and plan on trying the 2x12 Mesa as an extension cab with it. I had a 2x12 Recto cab that I sold to buy this, and I'm glad I did. Sounds much better IMO. And now I'm actually thinking of getting rid of my 4x12 Recto (it weighs a freakin ton!!!) and getting another one of these. I like the modular design, and it's much lighter than my old 2x12. I could use one cab for small clubs, and bring both for bigger venues. I think I may have found the perfect cabinet.
