It doesn't matter how you set it or what guitar you throw at it. It will sound amazing and unique.

I us a Duncan 59 pickup. Using the lower output pickup helps the amp shine. I use a Marshall 1960bx cab with greenbacks. This amp has so much life in it. I don't need any extra drive or gain. I use a thd hotplate down -4db or -8db, but no lower. It is the most amazing sound I've ever heard. Yes you can use the power damping to play at bedroom levels, but it's not the same. Once you crank it all the way up you'll be in ecstasy. I have found the right amp finally. It can get all the classic tones of the 70s. It has a magic vibe. It brings life to my recordings...I almost want to re record projects I've been working on for years (recorded with mesa boogies) and replace with the mojave...it's THAT amazing

It sounds amazing clean, semi distorted "jangley" or mid ac/dc gain or all the way up "vna halen " gain

built like a tank, I don't believe I'll ever have any problems with this amp

Vic is the best, he responds to any email or call right away. He really helped me get my peacemaker and it arrived fast and in perfect working order.

I have a BA in music plus a degree from LA music academy
I've been playing 15 yrs or so. In the last 5 years I changed. I used to rely on high gain amps like mesa rectifiers etc... I started to truly hear the magic in older recordings in the 70s. I wanted that sound. I can't afford to buy plexi after plexi trying to find the best sounding one....I got the peacemaker and I'm happy...it's like getting the greatest plexi you've ever imagined. Much cheaper than trying to find a good sounding vintage plexi.

You need a hotplate and a 4x12 with g12m-25 greenbacks or g12h-30
do not use modern speakers like vintage 30s!
Plug straight in, turn it up and enjoy.

I play through the Mojave 4x12 with their standard Celestion Speakers. I also use a Furman Power Factor power conditioner.

I have not turned it up past 0.5 because I live in a quiet neighborhood, but the natural harmonics at 5th, 7th and 12th frets sound amazing. I also plug straight in with a Mogami Platinum cable.

Also adjusting the Bass, Mids and Treble knobs shade your tone as expected.

I know it has a built-in power dampener, but I dream of buying a warehouse so I can turn it up all the way and hit a power chord or play a soft-fuzz lead.

I've had only one other tube-based amp and that was a 59 Fender Bassman reissue. I've also played through other amps at stores, but none sound as clean and with a raw, pure tone as this one. Maybe my Furman power conditioner with its extra amp reservoir and Mogami cable also help.

My overall rating is a 10. It is what it is.

This amp is awesome. I was worried at first until I learned how to use it. This amp is for experienced players. Tone is so versatile with pure rock tone. Great for Clean, Rock, Jazz, Metal, and anything else your fingers can push through it. I thought I was Angus Young there for a few minutes when I got a chance to play it really loud in an auditorium. This is a one channel amp with no effects loops. I was worried yet again how I would sound through this amp. Well was I in for a great surprise.

Sound Quality : 10
Sounds from any era of music can be dialed in on this head. Pure, Clean, Sparkling clean to blues, hard Rock and all in between. This head sounds like a Marshall, but has more beef and tone flavoring available. This 100 Watt head is louder than any other head I have. Can sound great at extremely low volumes with assistants from an Attenuator. In a large setting, I swear I feel the ground vibrate when it's cranked! This amp is super quite even when cranked to 10. I don???t understand how an amp can be that quite. If I had any other of my amps cranked like that, I would sound like a ruptured gas main hissing very loudly.

Reliability : 10
Reliability of this amp is Military Grade. This amp is built to last and is very well constructed inside and out. I have used this for hours at a time cranked to 10 in every volume controller on this amp, with know problems other than it gets very hot as expected. I always panic if I don???t bring a spare head to every gig, and I have been that way since day one, but the past 6 shows, I only brought the Mojave and never thought about a back up at all!

Customer Support : 10
Customer support is great. Quick call backs and 100% support. Victor is very helpful and backs his products all the way to the bank!!!!!! The warranty is 5 years, which I think is great! I purchased this unit used and the warranty was transferable which is awesome and not heard of that often. That shows you they don???t have any support issues at all.

Overall Rating : 10
I have played for 17 years and own the following amps. Marshall JCM Slash, Carvin V3, Carvin Master Tube Series, Carvin Quad X, Carvin X100B, Carvin Legacy, B-52 Stealth, Peavey Rock Master, Diamond Phantom, Genz Benz El Diablo, and a few others. Out of all those amps, and I Love all of them, I find my self using the Mojave 95% of the time. This has become my new Number One. One thing I would change and wished was mentioned on the web site is the fact that the unit needs a THD Hotplate Attenuator in order to play in a condo or apartment setting. This amp works off the power amp section instead of the pre amp section, which is why it sounds so good. When I first used it I loved the clean sound but I could not get distortion in my room without blowing the windows out. Being an experienced player I figured out what was up, but if I were a beginner I probably would have returned the amp. Once you play with the amp, you will learn to use it more efficient. This amp is very expensive and worth every penny. If it went missing, I could not sleep till I had the replacement in hand!---Great Job Mojave Ampworks!!!!!!

This is where I have an issue. The resale value for this amp seems to be for ****. I saw a Scorpion go for about $1500 on Ebay and my Peacemaker just went for $1325, also on EBay. Seems like right now is NOT the time to buy a new one. Keep your eye out on Ebay and you'll find it for 50% off, in great condition.

This amp is the flagship of the Mojave line, made in Apple Valley,CA. The E.Q. layout is pretty basic high, low-mid, high-mid and high...the split mid setup is nice in that it suits a wider range of guitars, whereas in the past I've had certain guitars that sounded better with certain amps. I tend to find that is what I'm adjusting the most when I switch guitars. This amp has 2 8 ohm outputs, and a 16 & a 4 ohm output. It also has a variable lineout wich is always nice to have. Probably my favorite feature is the power dampener; I leave it at about 12 )' clock, which is probably a little less than half of the 121 watts this amp is actually bench tested at. All in all, I would say this amp has all the tone shaping tools you need and nothing you don't. The only thing that I can think of that you could add would be an effects loop, which I wouldn't want anyway, b/c they suck tone.

Sound Quality : 10
I've been playing high gain multi-channel amps for a while...i.e. a Voodoo modded 6505 and a River K Tre, which are nice amps to be sure; however, IMHO as good as they sound for what they do, there's just a tonal quality that a good single channel amp cranked up can get that the higher gain amps don't have. I'm still blown away everytime I listen to Eddie's tone on early van Halen Albums or Angus' tone on old AC/DC stuff. Sure, a lot of that was their technique, but that's the beauty of these type of amps, even at higher gain levels, you can emote so much more. If you play aggressively, you will sound aggressive, as opposed to a bunch of preamp tubes doing all the work and masking your playing. Basically, everything that you would want in a good plexi, the mojave has in spades. One thing about this amp is that speakers make a bigger difference in how it will sound than most amps. I first tried it with Germino 2x12 loaded with EVM12Ls and it sounded pretty good, but not quite what I was expecting. If you fork out the cash for one of these, I'd deffinitely invest in a cab w/ some G12H30s, scumbacks or greenbacks. I've got 2 Hellatone 30s in my Germino and they sound awesome. I love the EVMs, but this amp is designed with the vintage celestion sound in mind.

Reliability : No Opinion
It's built like a tank; I don't know much about caps and such, but the transformers are Mercury Magnetics...which makes me a little skeptical of the previous review slamming the build quality, b/c MMs stuff is the heat. Only time will tell, but so far, so good.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I talked to Vic briefly about using an od/dist pedal and what he recommended. I went with the H&K Tube Factor, and it sound absolutely insane. I havn't had a chance to try it with any other amp, but if you get a Mojave, that pedal is the perfect compliment. I haven't had any issues with the amp, but they seem pretty cool on the phone.

Overall Rating : 10
This amp is only as good as you are; if you suck, you will sound like a crappy guitar playing through nice gear. That's the trade-off, and there's no way around it. For lack of a better way to put it, this amp is just "organic"; there's a connection b/w how you play and how this amp responds that most amps just do not have...this amp is alive in a way that a high-gain multi-channel amp cannot be by virtue of it's design. If you want an amp to express what you are feeling when you play, then here you go; this is it! If you want to hide what you are playing...and not playing... with lots of distortion, this amp will frustrate you to death, which I would be willing to guess, is the case with one of the previous reviews, b/c the only way this amp will sound like crap, is if you do.

My amp was made December 2005. This amp is amazingly versatile using guitar volume knob and the right pedals and effects. I play classic rock, some blues, hard rock and metal. I honestly don't wish this amp had any of the features that modern amps have!!!! If this amp didn't have enough power for me there would be something terribly wrong with my ears.

Sound Quality : 10
The Mojave Peacemaker is the sweetest, most pure form of electric guitar amplification I have ever owned. I am using the Ultimate attenuator with a 200 watt load...highly recommended! I use the line out of the Peacemaker into the H&K replex into the VHT 2/50/2 power amp. All this goes to a Mojave 4x12 and a Mojave 2x12 loaded with Celestion Heritage G12H30's. My guitar is a Suhr strat with a Mr. Browny humbucker.
The most important pedals on my board are a bb preamp and a Maxon GE601. The bb preamp kicks the amp into metal territory, while using the Maxon the way its set up I get an amazing clean sound...also a slight roll off with the volume pot gets an even cleaner clean.
With the nature of this kind of amp some Ghost noting will be present. You need to have high quality matched tubes for one, set the amp up the way it sounds the best to you...maybe everything on 10 won't be the ideal setup for your guitar and pickups.

Reliability : 10
The amp is built as well as an amp can be built. I would and will use without a backup, just spare tubes. No breakdowns.

Vic is very helpful and friendly. He and his guys have answered my questions and emails without fail.

2003 Model This is a one trick failed attempt at a Marshall Plexi.
I don't use this amp because it sounds horrible.

Sound Quality : 3
This is a poor attempt at a Marshall Plexi. The builder uses Cheap Caps, Transformers, Resistors etc.No matter which guitar I used, The Ghost notes destroy the tone and the Amp is Sterile sounding. The distortion loses tone as the amp gets cranked. I do have an Eventide harmonizer but don't like to use it all the time.Don't allow the website to fool you there are loads of effects and compression used to record the sound clips. With the price in mind you would be better off investing in the real deal for the sake of value and performance

I have been playing for 40 years and own various Vintage Marshalls and Fenders, I have a couple Mesa-Boogies too. I build amps as a hobby and own a recording studio. This thing is basically Junk from Hell (Apple Valley Area) If you have never owned a plexi, they don't sound anything like this.

Straight forward marshall style, and if you want to get right down to it a 2 ch amp.

Sound Quality : 10
I tested this amp at Mojave Ampwork in apple valley. i used my les paul standard w/humbuckers and actually tested it with a 2x12 mojave cab loaded with G12H30's. I have to be honest here. anyone who plugs into one of these amps and doesn't like the tone is absolutely deaf or at the very least an unconsious incompetent. i have a classic rock cover band and the variation in cuts in our set list goes from 3dog night to stp to crows to almond brothers. let me be the first to say i got every tone imaginable. i especially like the montrose stuff, spot on! it cleans up nicely too. the power damping feature is absolutely remarkable all the way down to a quarter of a watt not like a master at all. it still remains dynamic very impressive

Reliability : 10
all hand built hand wired mil spec nothing else needs to be said no PC boards here. as far as the yahoo who experienced a bad tube, dickwad, it happens and usually when it is new never after. but first impressions eh! just remember this, he didn't make the tube or the fuse the amp still fired up even without a bias.......

victor mason is truly one of the most knowledgable people in the business today i feel his service if exceptional.

s/n 12 w/power dampening.

my second mojave. started with a coyote.

not a versatile amp in the volume knob clean to dirty aspect like the others are. but none of the others chuck out the gooey lava like the 'Maker!

the scorpion may have more grind, at the expense of girth.

the tone controls are uncanny. they are focused right in the heart of guitar tone land.

if you don't spend any time with the amp, you lose.
but if you know what you are looking for, and listen to vic about the other pieces of the puzzle, you will win.
never bites my ears tonally. volume, yes, but tone no.

the power dampening is great. keeps the tone intact. i use it with a hotplate to get VERY quiet without having to run the plate as drastically.

if it could clean up on the run like the plexi 45, this catagory would be a 10.

Sound Quality : 10
fender alder strat w/holmes 450 in bridge.
currently have a bogner 4x12 uberkab (v30s & 75s)
have played it with a mojave 4x12 too.

this is a rock amp. i have played most every boutique amp out there that claims to do VH.
none do it like this, except for old marshalls, and then you are dealing with old marshall prices and problems.

gain is a very tricky thing. mojaves provide just enough to keep the very best of the amp's tone intact. they leave it up to you to add more via pickups, pedals, tubes, speakers, etc...

....basically mucking up the tone and making a fool of yourself gorging on gain like 95 percent of the population, me included.

but they kindly provide an amp that can actually handle a great deal of front end pedal gain thrown at it and keep the tone fat and expressive.

you can take two routes with this amp---keep the amp at a moderate setting and create a lead sound around pedals--and this is what i typically do based on my time with the coyote. this method gives you greater flexibility when trying to achieve both clean and dirty tones.

or-

crank the amp, and boost it with a clean pedal ala time machine boost, which gives you a fatter clearer tone, at the expense of legato touch for faster runs, and extra volume control.
vic uses this method and i am trying to get there slowly.

i do use the vic method of running the line out to a replex into my coyote/gh301x12 cab for the wet. hubba hubba! if you only try the peacemaker mono/dry, you are missing a MAGIC event.

Reliability : 10
this thing looks so clean and solid and easy to service...a MAJOR consideration when looking for this tone.

Customer Support : 10
Vic and Craig are awesome. I have been to the palace many times now, annd get the best customer service i can hope for. they have serviced LOTS of things for me and always do great work.

Overall Rating : 10
I have wanted this amp from the first time i heard it on the net in 2001.

it is a very weird feeling to be able to aquire the tone you've been hearing in your mind for decades. i hit chords and dig into solo notes and think "that didn't just happen did it?? is that really MY tone?"

this is one piece of my holy grail dream rig---a BIG piece

the other amps would be a fuchs or two rock for cleans and dumble/texas/fusion tones

and something big and liquid sounding ala egnater/bogner/diezel/vht for faster rock leads

My Peacemaker was purchased new 10/04. It's a single Channel No-frills 100 Watt all-tube tone machine. Features on front panel: ON/OFF, Standby, Indicator light, Bass, Low-Mid, High-Mid, Treble, Bass Volume, Treble Volume. Rear Panel: Power Receptor, Fuse Holder, Line-Out jack, Power dampening control, Line Level Control, Output Jacks: 4-8-8-16 Ohms.

Sound Quality : 10
It sings using my Wayne Charvel Mahogany strat style guitar with Tom Holmes PAF humbucker. I play classic rock like Van Halen, AC/DC, Zeppelin, The Who, and Jimi Hendrix, which is what the Peacemaker was made for. It has the richest, harmonically complex tone that I have ever heard! It sounds similar to, but has better tone and more gain available than any "plexi" Marshall I have ever played. It has a very warm, clean distortion because it's created by the power section of the amp, not the preamp. It never sounds thin or brittle like other boutique amps I have tried. No wasp-in-a-jar distortion. It responds to the dynamics of the player and is very touch sensitive. It cleans up real by rolling off your guitar's volume. Has a nice jangle, more akin to a class a amp. Other amps talk the talk, but the PM walks the walk!

Reliability : 10
It's built like a tank using the finest components. I would use it on a gig without any hesitation. There's nothing flimsy about it at all.

Customer Support : 10
I am really into early Van halen and bought this amp to emulate Eddie's early tone. Victor, the owner of Mojave, was extremely helpful in giving me tips on settings for the EQ and gear tips on what pickup would be the best to use, etc. He and I have talked on the phone for hours about gear. He really knows tone!!!!

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing guitar for years and have tried various amps including: Blockhead, Mesa, Marshall, Splawn, and Roccaforte none of which can deliver the tone of the Peacemaker. If it were lost or stolen, I'd buy another one in a heartbeat and then trackdown the thieves and pummel them. It's expensive to buy any decent tube amp today and mine was $225.00 more than the standard model because it has Mojave's new "power dampening" and "line-out" features. Which I recommend if you record or play at home.

Just what you need - nothing you don't. I'm lucky enough to own serial number one. Two inputs - low input is dead on classic plexi -high is plexi taken to the next level. I've waited almost a year to submit a review so I could give an honest and accurate review.

Sound Quality : 10
If your looking for dead on classic late 60's and 70's marshall - this is your amp. Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Lizzy, Bad Company, Queen, etc. All those ellusive tones you always wanted to get but never could are all in this little box.

I'm not gonna bore you with my gear right down to what brand screwdriver I use to tighten screws on my guitar (like I've seen in other reviews). I have a few les pauls and a few other guitars, but I mainly play my L.P.s.

Like I said, you can get any classic tone you can practicly think of. I can even get the thing to sound like Brian May for God's sake and all that guy ever used was AC-30's and a custom made amp. Enough said about emulation. If emulation is your thing than you'll think your in heaven.

If you want an amp to help you find your own sound - here it is. Your sound begins with your hands. Too many morons expect to plug in and sound like EVH. Eddie will sound like Eddie even if he plays threw a $50 dollar POS amp. It's funny how some people think the gear makes the guitarist. If you suck this amp will let you know it. Every nuance in your style rings through with this amp. Don't expect to go to a store and plug in for 10 minutes and all of a sudden your transformed into the greatest guitarist that ever lived. This means you limey from jolly old england. Like I said, if you suck, you will not be happy playing this amp. There isn't a wall distortion or effects to hide behind. If you need pedals to sound good with this amp or any other than you need to practice. This amp will make you play better. It has helped me to grow and mature more in the past year as a guitarist than in 15 years combined before I got this amp.

The Peacemaker doesn't deliver bone crushing distortion. It's suited for any other style than whatever calls for tons of distortion. The cleans are great and not harsh at high volumes. I can get SRV type sounds no problem. There's more than enough head room at all levels. Like any great tube amp - the louder it gets the better it sounds. I've got mine running to a THD hotplate and then to a Mesa 4 x 12 recto cab with classic 30's. You need a hotplate - no master volume.

Oh, back to our friend from jolly old, God kill the Queen, England. In case you don't know it, US and England have different voltages comming out of our outlets. So feasibly this may cause some issues. Don't submit a bad review because you couldn't get your "tan" sound. Leave it up to a brit to gay something up - "tan' sound, how gay is that. If your able to assess the quality of an amp after ten minutes - then you need to re-think your world view. Hell, I barley start to form an opinion until after a couple of hours. Go practice and work on your "tan" sound. But don't waste our time with your stupidity. I get the "brown" just fine and haven't ever had a problem doing so. Maybe it's not the amp - maybe it's the loose screw plugged into it. Cheerio buffoon.

The peacemaker is for the mature guitarist. If all you do is play metal and beat riffs like a dead horse than you don't need this amp. If you want an amp that will help you find your own sound and put a smile one your face in the process - here you go.

Reliability : 10
Not one problem yet. I've talked with Victor Mason and I feel confident that he would help me with any poblems I might have.

Customer Support : 10
Victor is a great person. He always takes time to explain things clearly and is very patient. Like I said - I have every confidence that he would help me out if I needed it.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing sixteen years and I never imagined an amp could be this good. Everything else I've played since owning it pails in comparison. If it were stolen - God help whoever is dumb enough to try to steel this from me. The only thing that is at the same level with this amp is a Bogner. Mesa, Marshall, Soldano, and all the others sound like three inch garbage next to this thing.

See below descriptions - marshall style - straight forward. Brand new (early 2004). Its a looker!

Sound Quality : 1
Well...I tried this amp here in the UK at Chandler Guitars in Richmond London. If the thing didn't blow up after 10 minutes of playing i would be able to give it a better review...perhaps. I played through it with a strat with a med output humbucker in the bridge position. I started with 2 minutes of trying to get some clean sounds. Hmm...not what i was expecting...(even after the sales guy guranteed me it blows away every marshall he's played through...uh-huh...) However, if you are after a very smooth, flat, one dimensional sound (almost hi-fi like)this IS your amp. Not bad!

I have to admit, i was expecting it to sound better with more sag mixed with some richness...but it was not having a good day that day (or maybe i just got a 'friday' build), or maybe it IS supposed to sound that way...go figure! Mind you it could have been the cheapo pre-amp and power tubes killing the sound of this one (more on this later).

Well, so far so good - brilliantly sterile clean sounds to begin with (amazing with EMG pickups me thinks) - I was hoping that perhaps if i turned everything up it would get me that elusive 'Tan' sound guitarists in the US have always saught after (like the 'Brown sound' but a smidgen lighter hence the 'Tan'...) Well if i am honest, this thing just became r a tad unmanageable past 9pm on all dials - was i not supposed to do this? I have had a fender squire 15 give a better 'Tan' sound than this amp. Regardless of which input i plugged my guitar into this thing became overly middley, muffled and confused sounding. Notes rang out like a elephant with a flu in an isolation booth. I was expecting to hear rich harmonic saturation/sustain with notes jumping off the fretboard...sadly this just did not happen...and just when i was about to give up i saw some pretty blue lights come from the power amp section and then the amp went quiet. Bad tubes...Not cool for a new amp selling for ####.

I cannot comment any further - because the amp stopped functioning as a result of tube/fuse frying - VERY VERY un-cool for a brand new amp

Reliability : 1
In all seriousness, i think it was a dodgy tube/fuse....but this is a BRAND NEW AMP...perhaps a bit of further component testing or bulletproofing could be done before sending it to foreign shores? Just a thought...

This is the only one in the UK that i am aware of...and the fact that a tube went after 10 minutes is totally inexcusable for a new amp costing upwards of #1500 - Nuff said.

Customer Support : No Opinion
My advice to whoever makes this amp - In the future, please make sure its good for shipping to the UK with QUALITY components before you allow them to be demoed!

Overall Rating : 2
Well, after all the hype, sound clips, discussion threads etc...I was truly expecting this thing to be a solid sounding, plexi eating, potentially firebreathing all valve monster! I was hoping for that elusive and rich 'Tan' sound as well as it stood there on that day in the basement of the demo room at chandler's, that amp could only be suitable for a bingo hall i know of, in burnley...

p.s. If only the builders spent as much time on the sound/hardware as they did on the cosmetics...this would be the amp for me 100%. I can only hope that this 'harsh' criticism will spur on those responsible for building this amp to better test their component hardware before releasing it to the general public.

p.p.s I also tried to play through a coyote combo and head at Chandlers. Both of these amps were unoperational due to fuses blowing the whole time.....quality control PLEASE? and if you dont believe me just call any of the staff there on 020 8940 5874. I believe Brinsley is the man fixing them...

Sort it out!

The Mojave Peacemaker is a 100-watt non-master volume tube amplifier. The front panel features low and high sensitivity inputs, 4 tone controls, and volume controls for both bass and treble. Users can adjust the mix of the volumes as well as choose from low or high sensitivity inputs. This makes for a very versatile amp. I think it is a very well thought out and functional design. It has the features I am looking for.

Sound Quality : 9
This is a nice sounding amplifier. I primarily use it with a Gibson Les Paul Standard with PAF+ pickups and a Fender single pickup strat with a Floyd Rose Tremelo. The four tone controls and two volume controls make it more flexible yet slightly more of a challenge to dial in. They have more effect than the tones on a Marshall or equivalent amp. It took a little time during the evaluation period to learn how each affects the sound. The low sensitivity input is pretty much like the Marshall Super Lead in both tone and output. It provides a real nice plexi/PTP kind of crunch. It also cleans up nicely which is a pleasant surprise. It has a nice ?chime? to it. The high sensitivity has more overdrive and goes beyond the normal gain you would get from the Marshall. This input pushes the tone into what I would term simply as ?more?. The Peacemaker PM gets into VH territory with ease. The Mojave has it all in one package, clean, plexi, and ?more?. I replaced the stock Ruby 12AX7?s with some NOS tubes. I would recommend this improvement to any new amp owner regardless of brand.

Reliability : 10
I have no issues with reliability of the Mojave Peacemaker. One of the major reasons for making the purchase was to get a rugged, well made, hand wired amp. The amp is new at this writing, and it appears to be very well built utilizing quality components. Quality of manufacture was a real selling point for me. I wanted an amp that was built with the care of a Hiwatt and a good Marshall tone.

Customer Support : 10
I am pleased with the products and services provided by Mojave Amp Works. They produce a fine new product. I contacted Victor Mason and spoke with him in detail about the Mojave line on a couple of occasions. I was concerned that the Peacemaker would be too much amp for my applications so I was curious about the Scorpion, but decided to go with the 100 watt Peacemaker. I?m glad I did. Victor took the time to listen to my questions and provide answers about the product line. My amp was shipped and delivered promptly. The packaging is professionally designed and the foam inserts are custom made to fit the amp. The container will stand up to the rigors of shipping. The amp came with a 72-hour examination period. It provided the time I needed to evaluate the product. This item is guaranteed for 5 years

Overall Rating : 9
My overall rating is high for this amplifier. I had a good experience with the company, and the amp does what they say it will. I have a couple of nice Marshall Super Leads and the Mojave sounds very good in comparison. I have had several Hiwatts and Fenders as well and I much prefer the Mojave over both.

2 inputs(low and high sensitivity), bass, high and low mid, treble, bass volume and treble volume controls. You can use an A/B box if you want to switch between inputs or combine. An awesome beefy plexi-style 100watt head.

Sound Quality : 10
I use strats with it and get Hendrix, Blackmore, SRV by playing thru the low sensitivity input. Various fuzz boxes and overdrives kick it up to where ever I want to go with it. The way I use it it cleans up great for me. It's got plenty of gain on it's own, even on the low input for my style of playing. This amp does it all as far as I'm concerned.

Reliability : 10
Super quality in every part. I've had it on 10 with and without a Hot Plate and had no problems. Always nice to have back up, you never know what could happen.

Customer Support : 10
Victor's a great guy. Always friendly, responds to phone calls and emails promptly. I went to Mojave Amp Works and he let me demo every amp he makes and explained everything he does.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing 28+ years and I've owned 69, 71 and 73 Marshall 100 Super Leads. This is the ultra version of them and way more reliable. I have a 64 Super Reverb for the Fender vibe. All in all it's great tone machine! Remember tone starts with you!

This is a bare bones, balls to the wall Plexi style amp. No frills and ALL tone! The front panel consists of 2 ? inputs, 1 ? low sensitivity and 1 ? high sensitivity, bass channel volume, treble channel volume ( this plexi is internally jumpered already! perfect for easy channel blending ), and the best EQ section ever found on any plexi style amp. The EQ consists of bass, low mid, high mid and treble. This is one of the only amps I have ever seen that actually goes beyond the three knob EQ further allowing you to truly tweak your tone. The rear panel has 4 outputs. 1 ? 4 ohm, 2 ? dedicated 8 ohm and 1 ? 16 ohm. The AC power cord receptacle includes a built in spare fuse holder. No FX loop or any other extra circuitry to take away from the purity of the tone. This amp was designed for the true tone connoisseur. One who is more concerned with pure tone than useless features.

Sound Quality : 10
This is what the Peacemaker is all about. For those who call this amp a one trick pony I guess they?re right if you consider every classic Marshall tone worth mentioning and then some one trick! This amp can do everything from Hendrix with your strat in the low sensitivity input to Led Zeppelin and AC/DC with your Les Paul or SG into the high sensitivity input. And oh yes it will do the coveted ?brown sound? without breaking a sweat. The Peacemaker has all the tone of the original late 60?s Plexis plus a pile of tones an original Plexi could never do plugged straight in. The dynamic range is incredible. You can go from clean to scream with nothing more than change in pick attack. It?s the kind of amp you can set up and play an entire set at a gig without ever touching the amp. Just do it all from your guitar?s volume knob and p/u selector. I have heard the comments regarding the ?ghost note? and so forth. These are characteristics of ANY real plexi amp and are more prevalent on any original than the Mojave. I have played and owned many original Marshall?s and the Mojave is far less finicky and noisy than any of them. I think the few complaints logged are from people who really didn?t know what they were looking for, were unfamiliar with Plexi character and / or didn?t take the time to learn to set the amp up correctly to get the most out of it. I also notice a few people complaining about not nailing the EVH tone with the amp. All I can say to this is it?s clearly not the amp that?s the problem. Finally, I listened to the mp3?s on the site and was impressed. The Peacemaker is the best EVH tone amp out there. But the ?brown sound? is really the last reason I bought it. I bought this amp because I wanted the ultimate Plexi experience magnified. And for that it can?t be beat. This is the baddest Marshall style amp on the planet.

Reliability : 10
The Peacemaker or all Mojave's for that matter are so overbuilt that they should last forever. I run mine hard without an attenuator for long sets and she never even seems to get hot. This is one of the best built amps there is. Worry free tone is what it's all about.

Customer Support : 10
5 year warranty is one of the best in the business. 72hr trial period puts their money where their mouth is. Victor Mason is a great guy and a real pleasure to talk to on the phone. He is extremely supportive and answers emails so fast you'll think your the only customer.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for longer than most of current popular musicians have been alive. I currently own a huge collection of boutique amps and have owned nearly every notable amp made. The Mojave?s are among the best if not thee best build quality I?ve ever seen. The Peacemaker has some of the best tone of any amp I have ever heard and that?s not limited to just Marshall style amps. The tone is pure, dynamic, responsive, thick and chunky. This is a non-master amp so it is very loud. But I wouldn?t want it any other way. If you are looking for the ultimate Marshall / Plexi style amp and you?re serious about tone this is it! If you?re looking for a living room / bedroom jam box to nail the EVH tone without waking up your neighbors keep looking. This amp will blow your neighbors windows out a ? mile down the road. I have said there is only one thing better than owning a Mojave Peacemaker?. That?s owning two. And I do!! I will never be without one.

This amp is a one-trick pony and I bought it used with that in mind. It's a bare-bones non-master volume amp that is supposed to "nail" the early VH sound. Well, for one thing, you need to get an attenuator to have any chance of doing that since this is a non master volume amp. Luckily, I had a THD Hot Plate, but what if one didn't?

Sound Quality : 5
This is a decent sounding amp, but far below what I had expected. As some others have noted here, the very audible ghost notes make it well less than stellar. And the amp is fairly noisy as well. Using it with the Hot Plate allowed me to dial in some decent early-VH sounds, but I was disappointed in its overall sounds. The weird ghost notes and the graininess on the top end was not something I was willing to deal with. I'm into 80's hard rock and metal and was really hoping that this amp could fit the bill, but the sounds were decent at best and far from the hype surrounding this amp. The Peacemaker also did not clean up as well as I would have liked when turning down the guitar's volume pot. With the amp's volume turned up there always seemed to be some fizz happening on the top that I could not dial out.

Reliability : No Opinion
I kept this amp for 3 weeks and sold it off, so I don't know what the reliability is like.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Bought it used, so I didn't bother talking with Mojave directly. I talked with some other Peacemaker users and ex-users to get the information I needed.

Overall Rating : 3
Considering that I spent $2000 on an used amp, this amp has to be one of the most disappointing purchases of my life. I was so excited about getting this amp based on all the things I read about on the net. I learned that I should never base my purchasing decisions on hype on the internet again. The amp just didn't sound that good and sounded muddy for the most part. It sounds decent playing alone with the Hot Plate, but in a band setting, the sound just gets lost. It seems the amp worked out fine for others, but it just didn't with me. I recently picked up a used Blockhead Custom 100 and it did everything that I couldn't get the Peacemaker to do. The Peacemaker isn't a bad amp, but for $2000 or more, there are far better choices.

The amp I had was manufactured Dec 2002. Mainly marketed towards people looking for that elusive "brown sound". Two input channels with a unique EQ system (Treble, High Mid, Low Mid and Bass) with no master volume or effects loop. Very stylish and well constructed head. Comes equiped with ruby marked Svetlana tubes.

Sound Quality : 5
I tested the amp with a 1984 Kramer reissue loaded with SD E.V.H pickups, and a nicely worn first production run Peavey Wolfgang into a g12H-30 loaded 4x12 Marshall cab. Sonically I'm alway striving for the Fair Warning EVH tone. This was supposed to be my "dream amp". I have all the key components Vic recommends for this sound - Marshall stereo cab/second cab with g12H-30's, seperate power amp, Hotplate, H&K Replex, guitar of the right body composition and pickup rating etc - so needless to say I was expecting to get a great sound out of the amp after listening to the clips of people with this exact same rig.

Upon setting it up, I plugged it dry into the lo input, into a 4x12 g12H-30 loaded cab, playing gradually towards full attenuation. It had nice upper harmonic high range and a decent low end range with a crisp chord definition. But after The one thing I noticed right off the bat is that the amp was much more 2d and lacking in rich warm mids than my hoffman plexi modded '73 Superlead 100w, and most old marshalls I have heard/played - the "classic" ballsy marshall sound that this amp was supposedly modeled after. Running the amp on ten in full attenuation into the Hotplate (which had a very noticeable hum), with a speaker out to one side of my stereo cab, and line out to effects - power amp - side B of stereo cab sounded good, but I wanted the amp by itself to sound great, which no amount of NOS pretube swapping, EQ fiddling could accomplish. Also of note, is that plugging my guitar with the 9k ohm pickup into the hi input did result in "ghost notes" like the first reviewer noted. The Wolfgang with its 16k Ohm pickup...I had to unplug very quickly when I tried that.

Honestly, the Marshall JCM2000 head I sold to get this head (that was used as a preamp only box with output muted, and the effects send to power a slave amp) sounded better than the peacemaker. And so did something else very surprisingly, which I'll reveal in my closing comments.

Reliability : No Opinion
I can't comment here, because I only played it for three days.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Vic is a decent guy and was always responsive, if not always in the way I would hope for considering the amount of money one invests in buying a $2500 amp. After I laid down the cash for the amp and received it, I emailed him back and forth with questions and my findings, basically asking for advice and if possibly something was wrong with the amp - I was desperate to love this amp. My last email was if I and someone Vic knows could change out the Svetlana tubes/check the bias. He responded that if I was definitley not going to keep it, he was against it and if I didn't like the amp, to just return it because he had other orders to fill anyway. I'll let you make a determination of whether that consitiutes good support.

Overall Rating : 5
I think the amp has a lot of potential. The highs/harmonics, and attenuated capabilities of the amp were good, but the sterile 2d midrange sound of the amp, hum, lack of useablility of the hi input and absense of classic ballsy marshall magic made me send it back after my three days were up. The clips of the amp being touted around the web, and on the Mojave site are all great samples of what "studio magic" can accomplish - what there needs to be is sound clips of the amp *dry* so people can make an informed decision and can hear the sonic qualities of the *amp*. No one is more unhappy than I that it didn't live up to the hype, and that this review tends to be negative side. But I feel compelled to state my *honest* opinions, while trying to be objective as possible.

In abject sorrow after sending back the Peacemaker, I ended up buying a $80 Marshall Jackhammer to run in front of my '73 Marshall and effects. To my amazement, the distortion it produced sounded better than the $2500 Peacemaker! I should have spent the $80 shipping to/from on this ;\

I'm not sure how I can be so at odds with the other reviewers here - and unlike the first reviewer, I even had all the "extras" for the "brown sound". I am a VH freak - and I know that tone when I hear it. The peacemaker I had didn't have it in it. Perhaps I had a "off" build of the peacemaker. But Vic hasn't answered me back on that question after having been asked three times. I had other ears listen to the amp/test it as well - people with much more experience and they had the same opinions as I. Various members of the PlexiPalace boards have been over to play my Marshall - everyone who has heard it agrees it's an amazing amp, representing the classic marshall tone in grand fashion - so I do have a fairly good ear for tone, because I agreed with all of them! ;)

This puppy has everything I could ever want out of a great amp. No effects loops, no channel switching, just pure tone. One great feature is the inclusion of a High Mid knob that lets you dial in exactly the sound you're after. All of the tone controls (Treble, High Mid, Low Mid and Bass) are much more responsive than on your typical Marshal type amp and playing around them lets you alter the sound in dramatic ways.

Sound Quality : 10
The sound of this amp is absolutely amazing, no description I could give it would really do it justice but I'm going to give it a shot anyway.

First, this amp has both a low input and a high input. I have to admit that I didn't give the low input much thought at first, just assuming it was a weaker, thinner version of the hi input. Boy was I wrong! The low input channel is where you'll get all of your classic 'Plexi on 11' style tones, including the famous Brownsound that this amp is quickly becoming famous for recreating. In a way it's a shame that the many people think of the Peracemaker as just a Brownsound clone because it's really a whole lot more, the lo input channel alone can get you just about any great Marshall style tone without too much trouble. George Lynch, Angus Young, and Cream era Clapton are just a few of the tones I got with just a few turns of a knob.

Anyway, where the lo input channel gives you all the great tones of the marshal realm the hi input gives you the Peacemaker's own voice. I don't think there are any sound samples on the Mojave site of this channel and it's a real shame, because the hi input smokes! Imagine an amp with the basic tone of a great old plexi and heaps of clear, tonefull distortion, enough to make you toss your overdrive pedals in the closet for good. That's exactly what the hi input channel delivers.

Regardless of what channel you're using or how much distortion you happen to have the amp cranked into, the Peacemaker has an amazing amount of clarity, more than I've ever heard in an amplifier. Chords remain clear and, even with the hi channel cranked to ten you never get that 'flubbery wall of noise' a lot of high gain amps seem to produce. The clarity was the first thing I noticed about the Peacemaker and is still my absolute favorite part of the amp.

As a side note, the Peacemaker seems to get along with pedals really well. Plugging a buffered pedal in front of it doesn't give it that cardboardy type of sound non-true-bypass pedals often have. I have no idea why this is but it sure made my day!

Reliability : No Opinion
Well, I haven't beaten it with a stick or anything, but the Peacemaker sure seems to be built tough and uses very high grade materials. For now I think I'll leave this section blank simply because it isn't possible to judge the reliability of anything untill you've really abused it for a few years. I'm confident the Peacemaker can take what I dish out, however.

Customer Support : 10
This is where Mojave really shines. Vic is one of the nicest people I've ever done buisiness with (And how cool is it that you can pick up the phone and actually talk to the guy who designed and built the amp!)
He took the time to answer all of my questions and actually talked to me for an hour or two when I called to tell him the amp had arrived, just telling some of his cool amp stories and letting me in on a few of his tone secrets. All in all a real class act.

Overall Rating : 10
I've owned more than a few old and knew Marshalls and clocked a fairly good amount of playing time on Boogies, Soldanos and other high end amps. This is by far my favorite.
I was slightly worried about buying this amp sight unseen (er... unheard) but I'm extremely glad I did, this thing has tone for days and days.

If it were lost or stolen I would be very pissed because It'll be awhile before I could afford to buy another one. The second I had the money I'd definatly get a replacement though.

As I said earlier, my favorite thing about this amp is the amazing clarity it gives you even with tons of gain. There really isn't anything I'd change about it but I would advise anyone looking at one to get a hotplate, this sucker is LOUD!

2002 Mojave Ampworks 100 watt head. The amp is a single channel, non-master volume affair with no "excess baggage" to fool with. It is VERY easy to use and is quite complete for the old-school rocker looking for SERIOUS "muscle" in an amp that sports a golden "woody" tone with jaw-dropping depth.

Sound Quality : 10
The Mojave Peacemaker was designed to give todays player craving vintage Marshall "Plexi" nirvana everything they have come to know, love and EXPECT from that platform of amplifier design and MORE. The amp is VERY quiet and sticks to the job at hand of spitting out tooth rattling tone WITHOUT moonlighting as a radio station! The amp plays YOUR music that YOU put into it and adds NOTHING foreign to the matter. The amp is a stripped down, no frills "Plexi+" I would call it and finally the tone of your favorite classic van Halen record uh...CAN be purchased! Cheaply? No? But then....GOLD never is and this amp IS simply golden in terms of the finesse involved in what it does and how well it does it. Just incredible.

Reliability : 10
This amp is built of military grade parts....only the very finest available. No shortcuts were made for the sake of "bargain manufacturing." The high cost of parts is, naturally, passed right on to the buyer....but fair is fair. After all, once you play it, you will quietly admit to yourself that you would, in fact, pay any price for this! Is it not great that we don't have to pay "ANY" wild price for a tone this good?

Customer Support : 10
Customer support in flawless. Period. Victor, the builder of the Mojave Ampworks Peacemaker is a consummate professional in his handling of clients. I was treated as if I were the president himself arriving for dinner!

Overall Rating : No Opinion
If you're a rocker with a 30+ year old "amp jones" and you've been looking for your dream "Plexi" 100 watt Marshall...good luck. They are VERY tough to find these days...and what if...what if you find one and it needs "work" to sound it's best, or it already sounds as good as it can because it is "tired" after running for 30+ years and does not relish the idea of "coughing up" the goods for you? I have always felt one should buy on a PERFORMANCE BASIS as a guitar player. In that vein, my much "prized" and so named "magic Marshall" "Plexi" heads have been sold and it is the Mojave Ampworks Peacemaker that has easily inherited their once tightly guarded throne!

Earlier reviews covered the features pretty well. Everything you need for a plexi type amp. Not a swiss army knife kind of amp, but if your main feature is tone, look no further. I'll give it a 9 because it didn't come with Bucket Seats.

Sound Quality : 10
The tone of this amp is incredible. The gain is very thick and warm, not ice picky. When you crank it up it just breathes! This is not a master volume amp and I highly recommend using a hotplate with it so you can turn it up. Without it, this amp is loud! The Peacemaker can cover a spectrum of plexi type tones - from Hendrix to Cream to Van Halen - by simply turning a knob. I get a great blues tone with my strat plugged into the low sensitivity input. With a Les Paul I can get a great Allman Bros. tone with the neck pickup and a great AC/DC tone with the bridge. Crank it up and you have a great VH2 tone right out of the box, no vintage effects needed. Indeed, Vic used my amp to record clips 3 through 6 on the Mojave website.

Reliability : 10
The amp had an issue with the transformer which Mojave contacted me about and replaced. Since then, I've put some serious hours on it often at full volume and have never had a problem. The Peacemaker appears to have been meticulously laid out and the quality of workmanship is evident.

Customer Support : 10
Victor Mason has been great to work with. He's a guitar player and a tonefreak. I'm sure he built this amp as much for himself as for other players and it shows. He has spent an incredible amount of time with me on the phone talking about and demoing the amp for me. He assured me that I would be satisfied or I'd get my money back. I've been totally satisfied and he can keep the money.

Overall Rating : 10
Of the plexi type amps I've played, The Peacemaker rules, especially for the higher gain stuff. Some of the other amps I currently own include a 67 plexi superlead, 69 superlead, Blockhead Custom 50, Roccaforte Hi Gain 100 and a THD Plexi. The Peacemaker shines among them all. I would highly recommend it.

I bought this amp brand new from Victor Mason at Plexi Palace. I tried many other amps in his shop, but this was clearly the amp for me. We're not talking about fancy channel switching, effects loop, midi gadgets, etc. We're talking good old fashion pure hardcore vintage tone with some room for gain (more gain than a Marshall Plexi). This amp really excels at all styles that I play, from blues to 60's through 80's rock.

Sound Quality : 10
I used an old Strat and Paul. I also tried a guitar with really high gain p/u's. The Strat and the Paul sounded awesome, and I prefered the Paul. The high gain p/u's aren't a good match with this amp. This amp is very quiet. The clean is surprisingly good, and of course the crunch is incredible.

Reliability : 10
So far I've had no problems and the support has been great.

Customer Support : 10
Dealing with Victor at Plexi Palace has been great. The other guys working there are cool too. I mean, you can crank these amps at ten with no attenuation for as long as you can take it, and they don't mind at all. There's a special amp room to try out amps, and you just crank away. Never seen anything quite like it, not to mention all the vintage amps and combinations available to try out.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing guitar for over 25 years, and this amp will be in my rig for as long as I'm playing!! I would definitely replace this amp if it were stolen or lost. This is a beautiful vintage type amp in the vein of a Marshall Plexi, but with a higher gain preamp. There is no other product on the market that is designed and sounds like the Peacemaker. I've pretty much tried them all, and this is the one. The construction is amazing, and I don't feel bad paying the $2500 because of the quality and tone. I'm very happy to say the least.

This is a 100 watt single channel (low and high impedence inputs) amplifier with a very unique volume setup. Ther are Bass and Treble volumes that you can mix to achieve a very wide range of tones. Very straightforward, no channel switching, so effects loop, just the purest tube tone you've ever heard. 4 EL34 power tubes and (get this) 4 12AX7 premap tubes! Very much in the vein of a modified marshall plexi. Some might say the amp is limited because of this, but for my needs it gets the sounds I want.

BTW - to get higher gain sounds, you've got to crank the amp and at 100 watts, it is brutally loud. This is power amp distortion, not brittle sounding preamp distortion, but to deal you are going to have to have a Hot Plate. This is an essential tool required for a non-master volume tone monster like the PeaceMaker.

Sound Quality : 10
I play and record original guitar instrumentals, heavily influenced by early Van Halen, Dimartini, Lynch, etc. I was originally drawn to the amp because of the very convincing early VH clips that Victor (the guy behind Mojave Ampworks) made and posted to the Plexi Palace bulletin board. I am a hardcore Roth-era VH guy and I've owned Marshalls that were modded by Jose Arredondo and Lee Jackson and tried many other combinations of gear to get close to the VHI and VHII sounds. With all my various live setups, I've come close, but something was missing. With this amp and my current gear setup, I can reproduce these sounds *exactly* (to my ears anyway, YMMV - for example, my picking attack is very hard, which is similar to how Ed used to play). My current setup is an old Charvel strat with a Tom Holmes H455 bridge humbucker (8.5k output, very important to duplicate this tone with the PeaceMaker) - pedalboard with all effects hooked to a true bypass switcher, effects are original (AC cord) MXR Flanger, script MXR Phase 90 and a Boss DD-3 delay - into low impedence input of the PeaceMaker - Hot Plate - H&K Replex (set for single head delay, vintage factor maxed) - Peavey Classic 50/50 tube amp - MAW 4x12 cab wired in stereo (dry out from PeaceMaker/HotPlate into one side, Replex/Classic 50/50 into other. This stereo rig *is* the VH early sound as far as I'm concerned. I would use two 4x12s, but I don't have the room.

This amp is amazingly quiet at high gain/volume levels. Frankly, it is quite shocking. I'm used to old Marshalls and even my SLO-100 was a hiss machine at high volumes. I don't know what these guys do to make them so quiet when not playing, but needles to say, I sold my noise gate.

With the VH thing put aside, this is a very versatile sounding amp that is incredibly sensitive to your touch. By picking lighter, very sweet, cleaner sounds can be produced. Similarly, rolling off the volume on you guitar cleans up the tone nicely for quiet parts. I've honestly never played an amp that works so well this way. In the past I would just switch between multiple heads for clean/lower/med gain sounds, but honestly, now I can get all these tones from one head. Additionally, you can get very brutal high gain sounds with the amp as well. I've got an EMG-equipped seven string and into the high impedence input of the PeaceMaker you can get some brutal nu-metal sounds if you are so inclined.

Don't let folks convince you that this amp is a VH one trick pony. For sure, if you are into that tone, you *will* get it from this amp, but, geez, it is capable of *so* much more. Go play one and see for yourself.

Since I don't gig (strictly writing and recording in a home studio) I couldn't really say, but these amps are built like tanks. Far better than any Marshall I've ever owned and I used to gig those with no backup. The only issue I had initially was a noisy preamp tube that Vic quickly replaced. Amp has been perfect and incredibly quiet ever since..

Here is where Mojave Ampworks really shines. I am extremely picky when it comes to amps and tone and Vic has been accomodating at every step of my tone quest with Mojave Ampworks. When I decided to run my cab in stereo after purchase, Vic offered to re-wire the cab *and* swap out the speakers (impedence issues) at no charge! He did just that and also was very helpful in demoing the amp initially. Vic has been extremely patient with my pickiness and has been nothing but helpful in assisting me in getting the tone I wanted out of PeaceMaker. I've dealt with several *genius* amp maker/modifier guys over the years and frankly, they never seemed willing to take the time to listen (or even treat me nicely). Vic is an exception to this rule and a great, friendly guy to deal with.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing over 30 years and I've owned too much gear to even begin listing. For the music I play, the PeaceMaker is now absolutely essential. I wouldn't record without it. If my house burned down, it would be the second piece of equipment I'd replace (gotta get a guitar first...). Like I said before, I've owned vintage unmodded and modded Marshalls, Peavey 5150s, Soldano SLO-100s, etc and they never gave me what I was looking for. Bottom line, the PeaceMaker does what I need. Once again, if you get one, get a Hot Plate as well. This amp is too loud to play anywhere short of a hockey arena without one.

All tube, Hi and Low impeadence inputs which are sent to Bass and Treble volumes or channels. Bass, Low Mid, High Mid, and Treble. Basically a Marshall Plexi on steroids, no other features just like the real thing.

I have Les Pauls, and a fender strat with a humbucker, I have been using the Lindy Fralin p/u's in my guitar, it definitely seems that the lower resistence p/u's sound better with these amps 8K to 9K. I play various styles of old school rock and roll, and I have found that the Peacemaker is suited for many of those 70's heavy metal sounds. In addition to getting the Van Halen sound, yes this amp does reproduce that sound, it sounds good for other sounds of the 70's and 80's, Scorpians, Deep Purple, Judas Priest, etc.. I live in L.A., and I have owned two super lead plexi's which I took to Jose who moded heads for Eddie. This head smokes anything Jose did for V.H. trust me. I found the head to be more responsive than I had initially thought. It is very touch sensitive for volume and distortion, I can get a slightly cleaner sound by just hitting the strings lighter, and a more distorted sound by hitting the strings harder. When the volume is rolled off the amp does clean up nice, and still achieves a smooth distortion suitable for finger picking. Just like the real plexi this amp sounds good with the volume on ten, and the e.q.'s as high as you can get them. Because I live in this area I have been to Victor's store and I have heard his other heads. I particularly liked the side winder, which I plan to pick up for a little less radical sound than the Peacemaker.

Reliability : 10
I had one small problem with the amp which was do to a problem that the transformer company made. Victor quickly solved the problem and I have not had any problems since. I have had this head in the studio recording for 6-8 hours straight and it did not overheat or display any signs of fatigue. A real plexi would not be so reliable, I know, been there and done that.

Customer Support : 10
I found Victor to be a very nice person. He was always willing to share his knowledge to help me get the sound I was looking for, aside from just buying his amp. He showed me that the lower resistence p/u's 8-9 K work better with his heads, also because his heads have so much tone and so much clearity, they are very sensitive to intonation inconsistencies, and fretting noise from the action being to low, he helped me get all that straitened out so that I could get the best sound I could from his amp. Victor demonstrated many different amps, effects, and configurations for using them. I found him to be very knowledgable and helpful.

Overall Rating : 10
The only thing that I could say critically about the amp, would be that it really is a one-trick pony, you can't play the blues, the beattles and van hallen on it, but I did find that it is well suited for a wide range of heavy metal music. If you are looking for that plexi on ten sound from the old school heavy metal guitarists, V.H., Yngwie, Schenker, etc... this is the amp. I have found over the years that dispite the fact so many guitar heroes had this type of sound, it has been the hardest sound to achieve, simply because it can only be achieved on way. I plan to get his side winder for other styles of music not requiring a sound so over the top.

This amp is in the spirit of the old traditional Marshall amps. No channel switching or effects loop, no reverb, BUT simply a single channel 100watts of pure TONE. The amp has plenty of power and will most likely require a hot plate or something to attentuate the volume level. Treble channel control, bass channel control, 4 bands of EQ control.

Sound Quality : 10
I mainly play a host of Paul Reed Smith Guitars, but also played a Steve Morse Music Man, and a Jimmy Page Les Paul through this amp with great results. I play mostly straight ahead rock and roll (Eric Johnson meets Joe Satriani) style, and this amp nails the heavier tones I use. The distortion will not satisfy the modern trash players as this amp breathes through both the preamp and power amp section and responds nicely to a varying touch. The Van Halen Brown sound is easy to get with this amp, and that is the benchmark Victor was using when he designed it. Suprisingly, the amp also cleans up nicely when playing single coils or rolling off the volume control on humbuckers. Pumped through a 4X12 cabinet, this amp sings with a beautiful woody tone.

Reliability : 10
This amp is built with a great attention to details. The component layout and wiring are clean and simple which should allow for easy troubleshooting or modifications if ever desired. Victor is great to deal with in this regard as he looks to build the amp to do what you want it to do.

when I was looking to purchase this amp Victor allowed to stay at his shop as long as I needed to, to make sure this amp was for me. We took the head apart to look at the components and talk about the engineering design that went into making this amp. Victor knows his stuff and is very well respected across the country in maintaining, modifying, restoring, and servicing tube amplifiers. Check out Plexipalace.com to see for yourself. Also, I took my 2 year old son with me to demo the amp, and where else can you find a shop that has a room with a tv and kids videos and toys inside to entertain the little ones while you wail away looking for the holy grail of tone!! Customer service from Victor is top notch.

Overall Rating : 10
I simply love this amplifier. Does it cover every single tone...No. It's not a do-it-all in one box amp. BUT, the tones this amp produces are incredible. The amp is very 3 dimensional and breathes like a quality hand built tube amp should. The Van Halen tone is worth the price of admission in itself. I read the other review talking about ghost notes, and yes mine has some ghost notes present when playing single notes. They are very subtle and in the background, and go away when playing two or more notes together. I have a few old marshalls and vox's that produce more prominent ghost notes whereas these notes on the Peacemaker are much quieter. If you crave a nice, high quality, hand built tube amp that takes where an old marshall 100 watter leaves off and goes just a little bit further, then this amp is for you. It's a KEEPER.

This is for a brand new handmade Peacemaker from Mojave Ampworks. The features of this amp all revolve around its incredible tone. No effects loop, no channel switching or reverb, BUT the most incredible sound in a 100W tube head. This is in line with the older Marshall Plexi amps and will nail the Van Halen sound as well as other tasty treats. I love the features of being able to mix the treble and bass channels, the high and low sensitivity inputs, and also the 4 band eq section.

Sound Quality : 10
I play an assorment of Paul Reed Smith Guitars with pickup readings ranging from 8K up to 14K, both single and humbuckers. This range with the high and low sensitivity inputs on the amp yield a wide range of possibilities in sound. The bread and butter sound of this amp is the old original Van Halen brown sound. This amp ROARS!!! The distortion is not a modern thrash distortion, but a full bodied distortion that works excellent in both rhythm and lead styles. You will most likely want a hot plate or something to help attenuate the volume levels as this 100 watter is loud.

Reliability : 9
So far this amp is holding up well. The craftsmanship and attention to detail are all top notch and I have not experienced any reliability issues thus far.

Customer Support : 10
Victor was extremely helpful when I was considering the purchase of this amp. I was welcome to visit his shop, play as long as I wanted to, and also received insight into the design and building history of the amp. He even had a room where I could have my 2 year old son watch kids videos and play around while I did my shopping. Where else can you get that?? Not at Guitar Center !!!

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing guitar for over 20 years and there is nothing like plugging straight into a head and 4X12 cabinet and moving some air. This amp contains incredible tones and is a main piece (along with the Mojave Coyote) in my playing rig. When I need the perfect distored 'van halen-ish' sound, this amp delivers. It produces a thick yet articulate distored sound where you can hear individual notes in chords, and an incredible lead tone to boot. This amp will stay with me for many years to come. Thanks Victor for taking the time to produce a great sounding amp, the old fashioned way, with quality parts and engineering !!!

I have owned the Peacemaker for quite some time. I have the 1st production model that Mojave Amp Works put out in 2002. I have tested the amp extensively at home, recording, and in a live band situation and feel I can make an honest judgement of the amp at this time. There are many aspects to deal with. The most important being the incredible versatility of the Peacemaker. You can truly achieve the entire spectrum of tones from clean blues all the way through the highly elusive Van Halen tone. The amp has a low and high sensitiviy channel. The tones from the each channel are matched very well. The difference simply being more gain. Both channels allow you the ability to solo with thick, round sounding notes (without the piercing high end) as well as play fat, clear sounding chords even at high levels of gain. I practice straight into the amp on the low sensitivity and play out live in the high to compensate for signal loss due to a Phase 90, MXR Flanger, and a Cry Baby Wah. The tone of the amp still holds true to form. The most impressive feature of the Peacemaker to me is the ability to play heavy sounding distortion and leads (from VH, ZZ Top, AC/DC, Aerosmith to Disturbed, Rob Zombie, Limp Bizkit etc) and just by turning down the volume, achieving beautifully clean tones that are thick, warm, clear but not buzzy or glassy. There is no master volume so the amp screams and roars like a lion but a Hotplate takes care of that without suffering tone. When the amp is cranked down to 16 ohms on a Hotplate you will hear a bit of difference but in a live situation I have not needed to play below 12 or 8 ohms.

Sound Quality : 9
Right off the bat it is crucial to know that you should not play this amp with any high output pickups. This amp is built like the classic Plexi amps. I played EMG pickups through it and the tone did not come through. The pickups effected the tone too much. I have a Fender Strat with a Kent Armstrong humbucker that works perfectly with the amp. I have Tom Holmes pickups on order to compare but you can use any low output pickup (7.5 to 8.9 or so) that you prefer. I have read the review about the ghost note problem and I agree with what the Plexi experts say. You will hear them slightly as in the old plexis but not enough to effect your tone or send the amp back. It may just be a simple filtering issue that can be corrected. I have also played a JTM 45 Offset half stack that Marshall made only 300 of. Although I loved the Marshall and the tone the amp had, the Peacemaker clearly ate it for lunch. The Peacemaker goes well beyond where the JTM 45 Offset stops. The bottom end on the 45 did fart out at a certain point and although the high end wasn't as bad as on most Marshalls, that problem is non-existent with the Peacemaker. The Peacemaker, (although I heard was not built for this purpose) does handle all the heavy tones of todays extreme rock music but still holds on to the integrity of true tube sounding, poweramp distortion, non-master volume tone. If you have never played a non-master volume amp, do not expect to jump on this amp and treat it the same way. It is a different animal but this amp is what the others are trying to sound like!

Reliability : 10
There was a transformer issue at first but it was from the factory and not the amp and does not exist anymore. I have played the amp on live club dates (9pm to 2am), 3-4 hours of straight practice and the amp holds up like a champ. It is built like a tank and the craftsmanship is flawless. The point to point wiring is so neat and perfect along with the sparkling chasis that hours upon hours must have gone into the assembly. As in all old Plexi type amps that are run wide open I have been told you will go through tubes alot but it has been 3 months at the time of this review and the tubes are still fine! I don't think it is practical to ever to a gig with out a back up but I have not had to use one yet.

Customer Support : 10
Plexi Palace took immediate and quick issue with and early transformer malfunction and I had the amp back in perfect running order within 3 days from the time it left my house. The amp is really simply but well built. I have shown it to techs around my area and everything is easy to follow and locate. The warranty is lifetime so feel free to jam away and open the amp up. The tone is awesome!

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing the guitar for 27 years and have gone thru almost every type of amp out there. I have had Marshall Plexis that sounded great (as a young punk I unknowingly let them go), JMP combos, Marshall heads with master and non-master volumes, Boogie heads, the whole processing craze of the 80's (hope that nightmare is gone for good),Fender Twins and so on. The Peacemaker simply captures the best features of the old Marshall Plexis and combines them with the best features of the "new rock tone" of the Boogie Rectifier amps. It is like I got my old plexis back better than ever. I feel the amp really captures the tone of the VH 2 and Fair Warning but at the same time allows the new "extreme tone" to be obtained. You are not stuck with one sound or tone. Remember, the heavy VH sounds and the new Puddle of Mudd, Limp Bizkit, Sevendust sounds are achieved through tone and not uncontrolable gain, tubescreamers, and distortion boxes. Let the Peacemaker amp and your hands do the the work! The Peacemaker is made for the player who plays with their heart and soul. The tone will come out in this 100 watt monster!

Well........

Victor Mason called me upon reading this review. He was very apologetic of what happened with my amp. He admitted that things could've been done differently. IMO, that took a lot of heart and I appreciate it. We had a nice conversation and I felt a whole lot better afterward. That's why I am writing this follow-up. I would do business with Victor again.

One channel. Based on a Plexi Marshall. Controls include: Bass, Low Mid, High Mid, Treble, Bass Volume, Treble Volume, Low Sensitivity Input, High Sensitivity Input. Power section is 4 Svetlana EL34's. Pre-amp is 4 Tesla 12AX7's. No effects loop, line outs, etc. Just a straight-ahead sigle channel amp with no frills. The way it ought to be. I must add that I really liked the idea of the separate mid EQ's.....very cool feature.

This amp was supposed to be able to capture the EVH "brown sound". That is why I bought it. However, I could not keep the amp and had to return it. Here's why.......

Upon first plugging into the amp, I could tell that it was capable of getting killer tone. But, as I turned it up and began to play, I noticed extremely audible ghost notes: an additional note underneath the fundamental note that I was playing. It literally sounded as if I was playing through a harmonizer. I was very dissapointed. I called the builder of the amp, Victor Mason, and asked him what was wrong. He said to "ignore the ghost notes" and that "every old Marshall sounds like that". I wasn't so sure.

I contacted 2 of my former instructors, both of whom own original, well cared for, mint Plexi Marshalls. They were insistant that while the amp should produce subtle ghost notes, it shouldn't be as noticeable as what I was experiencing. They both agreed that the amp either had a poor filter cap or was not filtered properly to begin with.

I called Victor again. He commented that maybe I "didn't want the old VH tone" and that this amp "gets that tone perfectly". I was a little upset at this because I could tell the amp had a great sound but I could also tell that something was wrong. Sadly, after one more call, I ended up sending the amp back for a refund which Victor graciously offered.

One thing of note: This amp will not totally reproduce the old VH "brown sound" nor will any amp for that matter. There are many other factors invloved to getting that tone. Victor recommends buying a THD HotPlate, an Echo unit, a separate power amp, and another cab to go along with the Peacemaker to achieve the tone. I just don't want to get into all that extra equipment.

Reliability : 8
I only had the amp for 4 days but I could tell the workmanship was top-notch. The construction was flawless from the perfectly applied tolex to the beautiful stainless steel chassis.

Customer Support : 5
I have mixed feelings on this. On some occasions when I called, he seemed too busy or had to go right away. Granted, I'm sure he is extremely busy and gets a ton of phone calls every day but at the same time, I was spending a lot of my hard earned money on his product.

Also, the arrival of my amp was later than the time that was projected. This was partly due to the fact that he builds the chassis in California and his partner builds the cabinets in Virginia. So, he had to ship the finished chassis to VA so it could be matched up with a cab. I had asked for a tracking number as soon as it shipped. I finally recieved the tracking number....on the day I received the amp. No biggie, I guess. It just seemed as though the lines of communication weren't very consistant.

Overall Rating : 5
I have been playing for 20 years now. I have owned a Peavey 5150, a Bogner 101B, a Bogner 100B(Steve Vai head), an Egnater TOL100, a Mesa Triple Rectifier, Mesa TriAxis/2:90, and other cool amps such as a Silvertone 1482, a Gibson G5AT, and a '73 Fender Bassman 100.

It upsets me that this amp didn't work out because, as I stated before, it seemed to have a great vibe to it. It had a nice woody, brown characteristic to the tone. But, the ghost notes "stole the show" with this amp. They were just too much.
