Gigged the cab last night and.... Well, where do I start... in a gig situation it's astounding!! If you read my previous review you'll see that I was using a Mesa 4 x 12 and my main problem was that I had no spread of sound and that unless I stood directly in front of the Mesa I just couldn't hear it. This was a major problem as we don't mike up the back line, the rest of the band just couldn't hear me at all unless I was twice as loud as I should have been. This Mongotone 4 x 10 cabinet is the TOTAL opposite, no matter where I stood (using a radio pack) I could hear everything crystal clear!!! And more importantly so could EVERYONE else.... FANTASTIC! But, that's only part of the story as the quality of the sound was superb. Woody, Warm, Clear, LOUD and with sparkle.... it really brought the Hellcat to life. My sound was incredible.... it was huge without being overpowering and sooooooooooo warm, NEVER muddy and NEVER flabby like a 4 x 12 can be. It was TOIGHT... loike a TOIGER!!!! Seriously, it's the best sound I've heard other than top pro's... just awesome!

I doubt I will have a problem with this!!! You'd have to see it to believe it. But then again, those who HAVE now seen CAN'T believe it!!! Ha ha ha... it's that beautiful I can take some nice bone china or lead crystal to the gigs to put on top!

Marc has a niche market at the moment, and judging by my experience with him he will go far with these cabinets. I'm glad to say that I'm one of the few at the moment to have one, I'd like to keep it that way... you know trade secrets and all that... but that wouldn't be doing the man justice at all. He deserves to succeed and prosper with what he doing with these cabinets... after all, he is supplying us with the final link from fingers to guitar to leads to amp to..... SPEAKERS and sound! Give him a call... you won't be dissappointed! Thanks again Marc, I WILL be in touch in the near future......

This review is for a 4 x 10 speaker CABINET which I recieved TODAY as advised, so on time delivery as promised. However, this is not just your average plywood (Baltic Birch or other!!) or MDF/ particle board box, this is a HANDCRAFTED speaker CABINET lovingly created from solid Mahogony with a beautiful finish... I think it's described as Ribbon figuring? In terms of having a 3D effect.. the wood looks alive just as a nice Les Paul (or other) flame top does! The build quality is absoluetely second to none... I must admit to thinking "OK, so it certainly looks beautiful.. but I could buy a nice walnut dresser or oak cabinet if I just wanted a piece of furniture!". This cab was purchased on the strength of 2 things, firstly - the 5 star rating that Guitarist Magazine gave it. This is the VERY 4 x 10 you see in the Mag.. and yes it does look much better in the flesh so to speak. And secondly, my faith and belief that a REAL wood cabinet would resonate so much better than man made ones. As for speakers, talk to Marc and you can specify what ever speakers you want, but for the 4 x 10 he recommends Celestion G10's, rated at 60Watts each and the cabinet at 240Watts and 8ohms, and approximately 630mm wide x 670mm high with an open back design. It's a mono cab, though Marc could have wired for stereo for a small increase in cost. This was purchased to replace the usual suspects... a Marshall 4 x 12 and a Mesa 4 x 12, these are really the industry standard cabs and therefore as Mongotone is NOT so well known I was taking a bit of a risk spending this sort of money on a cab I had never even seen before let alone heard! So on features I'll give it a 9, but only because it isn't stereo as standard.

Sounds... where do I start. Got home from work... unwrapped it... this took 5 minutes as the packaging was so good. Looked at it (see features) and thought I really hope you sound as good as you look.. a bit like Shania Twain! Mmmmmm, sorry about that.. but anyway.. off to rehearsal. I'd just like to point out the real or main reason for my wanting to get rid of the Boogie... YES it sounds good, and yes it sounds BIG... but only if your 20 foot or so away. Some may say whats the problem with that, well my problem was that the projection was very focused i.e if you wheren't in the line of fire it was hard to hear what you where playing. But more to the point is that the other band members couldn't hear me... so this was a nightmare when it came to intro's,lead breaks etc. In our band we do classic rock covers, and we are a bunch of mates who just play for a laugh.. nothing serious BUT the emphasis is on quality of sound... NOT volume. I got 2 great amps, both Cornfords.. an MK50 and a Hellcat, just need to get the cab to make them sing! Well I GOT IT!!!!!!! The difference was staggering... my sound was just awesome... deep and full... loads of punch... cut through the mix without being loud and the spread of sound and projection just blows anything else I've ever tried before away. This really does make my amps sound even better... and how many people would argue that you couldn't make a Cornford sound any better? This thing does, and as I said earlier I was very sceptical... I had tried a Boogie 2 x 12 Recto with V30's... too dark and focused. A Marshall Hendrix (Purple with Re-Issue greenbacks) and later the Boogie 4 x 12 with V30's. You know how much the Boogies cost... so they should really be the best, there's no denying that they do look intimidating on stage.. but the Mongotone just eclipses it for sheer quality in all areas. I have to say that it was only a rehearsal, and I will post a summary in a few weeks once I've gigged it, but I SOUNDED BLOODY GOOD!!!!! Ha ha ha... so much so I was laughing. All my fears about spending more money AGAIN just disappeared within minutes of plugging in. The rest of the guys said that's it... we can all hear you... and you look good too!!!!! So.. very sweet sounding, by that I mean my Cornfords sound just as angry as they always did, but now in a more musical way. FANTASTIC...........

Reliability : No Opinion
I can't really comment, but as it's a cabinet with only speakers and a few wires, I'd say that judging by the sheer hardwork and effort that's gone into this it ain't gonna fall apart or anything else.... the only danger is that someone nicks it and puts a couple of nice ornaments on it coz they think it'll look real nice in their living or dining room.... I'd KILL 'em!!!!

I have spoken to Marc on several occassions and he's a nice genuine bloke who is keen to talk music generally WITHOUT trying a hard sell and will answer any questions. I am 100% positive that I WILL be buying more gear off Marc in the future... if you could see and hear this thing I'm sure that you would too.

Overall Rating : 10
As I said earlier, I have tried so many amps and cabs and have never been able to find what I wanted... this Cabinet has just ended my search. I have some great guitars, 2 great handbuilt amps... all good quality leads etc and yet my was the missing link. Not anymore, I cannot stress the difference this cab has made. Ok, the look of the thing will be let's say more for the mature muso who is more concerned with getting a great sound (how it should be), but there will always be the need to look mean and nasty on stage with your massive stack. Remember that your mean and nasty stack has to be moved, and just because it's big DON'T mean it sounds so great... my 4 x 10 is considerably smaller than the Boogie in physical size, but for the style we play, classic rock ala AC/DC, Thin Lizzy, Bad Co, Zep I can't say that this cab loses out in the mids OR bass dept. The one thing that I can say is that it's a perfect match for the Hellcat and it adds warmth into the mix. My sound is still mean, but smoother more sophisticated... TOTAL quality. Am I happy..... YES, VERY VERY HAPPY.
I'll post another review here once I've gigged it in a few weeks time.
Thanks to MARC...
