I use several G&L's with the amp. Voor clean it sounds SUPER , for distorted sounds use a effect pedal. No noisy at all because of the solid state pre amp.

Reliability : 10
This amp is built like a tank never broken down as long as I have it.

Never dealt with the company.

I play since Barack Obama was born.
I would definately buy another one if the amp were stolen.
I love it's great clean sound.
For the price this is the best you can buy. Ridiculous underrated amps these Music Man's

Dunno what year mine is, has the same features as those mentioned in the other posts. I got mine with a seperate speaker box with 12inch MM speaker, it is the same size & shape as the amp.

Sound Quality : 10
I like playing clean and with distortion, noise & feedback, this does all four like a champion.

Reliability : 10
Have used this for approx 15 years, have changed valves once, not because they needed it, but because I was worried with them being so old. Have never had a backup amp and this one has never let me down.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No probs

Overall Rating : 10
I use this amp with a Rickenbacker 330 & an old cheapo Gretsch copy.
I like playing noisy & distorted with a range of distortion & other effect pedals, especially my much loved Big Muff pedal, this amp sounds awesome with all of them.
It makes me sound much better than I really am (which, to be honest, isn't that difficult)
The only negative is that it weighs a bloody tonne

This amp was built in 1980, it has a single channel, 3 ranges of tone controls plus a bright switch and a "deep" switch (for great lows at lower volumes). It has a single 12" EVM speaker, gain and volume controls, a very nice reverb, a good quality phasor, two line in/line out patches and is rated at 100 watts. Music Man was considered to be "high end" equipment and in all respects is professional quality. MM used a solid state preamp and tube power amp. While some models had a tube phase inverter and used EL34 power tubes, this amp has no preamp tubes and uses 6L6 power tubes. I've used this amp in venues ranging from country clubs to concert halls (mic'd). It has a warm, detailed clean tone and can be set to have a very believeable distorted sound. I personally use a tube screamer for an overdrive sound and get a rich "Robben Ford" sustain. The line in/out jacks work well with rack mount equipment.

Sound Quality : 9
The main guitar this amp sees is a Gibson ES335 with Tom Holmes pickups, but I also use a Fender Telecaster. I have never found a guitar setup that the amp didn't do justice to. This amp is comfortable with either humbuckers or single coils and is "middle of the road" enough to sound believeable in any style of music I've used it for. It simple has a sound that doesn't fatigue your ear over the course of an evening.(Something that alot of amps can't say.) Because it has a solid state preamp, it's quiet and can be mic'd without raising the stage noise level. Eric Clapton used MM for years (pretty amazing when you consider that he changes his setup every few monthes now)and MM was Chet Atkins favorite amp to use. Other users included Aerosmith, Cheap Trick(they kept the MM off stage and out of sight), Alabama, Little Feat ,and on and on. The word versitile definitly fits here.

Reliability : 10
I bought this amp new and used it nightly (6 and 7 nights a week)for about 6 years before selling it to a friend. I recently bought it back and had the caps changed (a normal thing for an amp of this age) and had the amp generally "gone through." The tech had to change one resistor and he replaced the reverb tank. Other than changing the power tubes, these are the only things the amp has ever needed to have done. The amp is now back at work doing 3 or 4 nights a week and I feel no need to carry a spare amp.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Due to "internal mismanagement and ownership squabbles", the company went downhill financially and was sold to Ernie Ball in 1984, but there are a number of very qualified techs that have the experience and parts to keep these amp running for as long as anyone cares to use them. Also, there is a very nice independantly run website with all kinds of information about how to keep these amps at their best. A player looking for a versitile high quality amp for club use should definitely look for a well cared for MM amp.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for well over 30 years and also own several Fender amps (mostly blackface which all stay at home). This amp replaced a Fender Hot Rod Deville. It was a very nice amp, but I like this amp much better. If it were stolen I would look for another MM amp or use a Fender. I like the amp because it looks classy, but low profile on stage, sounds good in whatever I ask it to do, is reliable, and a bargain when compared to Fender amps. The phasor is not something that gets used anymore and the RD model might serve alot of players better, but the RP will get all the same sounds and BECAUSE it's an RP, will probably be cheaper on the open market. This is definitely an amp that will hold it's value as long as it's well cared for.

The amp is one of the ealier type, with a single channel and footswitchable phaser and reverb which is worthy of a special mention as its very good compared to my boogie.
There is no 12AX7 in the preamp and its solid state with two EL 34 in the power amp section.
It has no effects loop but does have preamp in out on a stereo jack for both high and low inputs.
I play in in a covers band and need a variety of diffrent sounds in order to do the job i previously used a MK4 Mesa Boogie but could no longer justify the retention due to the amount of work i am now doing.

I remembered these amps from the late 70's when i started playing and remember clapton and johhny winter using them though my natural inclination is to play more of a rockier metal style AOR rock.

For what it does its a great (no channel switching) clean sound is very blackface fender and the phaser is something diffrent and better than most of the standard pedal types you can buy.

Sound Quality : 10
The clean sound is excellent and on a par with the fender amps the real surprise for me was the sound when using an overdrive pedal it is just awesome not just louder as one reviewer commented i use a boss sd1 for the crunch and the amp is pushed to meltdown when i kick in either the OD3 overdrive or CS2 compressor for the lead sound. The secret is in balancing the clean sound master and preamp volumes so they have some body not just a low preamp setting and all pwer amp.
I do not normally use the bright and deep switches unless its for effect as they are way to severe in each area and add to background noise which is minimal without them.

Reliability : 10
My amp has only ever had the ouput tubes changed the reverb and phaser work as well as any i have heard.

Customer Support : 7
no longer supported but the bits casn be replaced if you get the scematic from Eb BY Email and any good tech should be ok with it.

Overall Rating : 9
I have been playing around 25 years and this is a much underated amp and i believe will become a sought after vintage item cos they are sooo good .
If you see one buy it you will not be dissapointed. They only went out of fashion because of the rack thing and the use of effects loops. Now pedals and amps are back in they will become very collectable. My guitar of choice is a John Suhr standard and a PRS 24 and this amp makes them both sing with in either a clean sound or the overdriven sound with a boss pedal.
I can only think that because some of the guys on here bought them when they were not fashionable and they are not meltdown amps without a pedal like the line 6's and stuff they have low opinion but drive it right and you will be shocked it does the lot the lead sound is similar with the overdrive to jmp 50 head i used to use and there is nothing wrong in that.
When they were launched they were Rolls Royce not for and they still sound like that today.
When i switched from the boogie everyone questioned the move but not after they heard the amp. Thew people whoc complained about the weight are having a laugh they ought to have tried lifting my MK4 boogie its not heavy at all especially for a valva amp with a big ev speaker in it (just like the boogie).
If it were stolen i would cry, then scour the country for another or the HD 13

same as most others have listed, one channel, two inputs, built in reverb and phasor. i think they put a lead plate in the bottom.

Sound Quality : 8
i use a gibsom lp custom with stock humbuckers and a fender cyclone with a rewound bridge hummmer. i think the fender sounds better because it's brighter and the amp is a little dark. for an older "hybrid" amp (there's only two el34s back there) it sounds pretty good. the reverb and phasor have been broken since i got it, so i can't say how they sound. i use a vintage mxr phase-90 when i want that, and live without reverb altogether. it's fairly uncolored, but it can tend to get really muddy really fast as the gain goes up. the deep/normal and normal/bright switches are a little too effective. if the gain is up past ten and you switch it to "deep" the things sounds like a deisel engine. overall, its a nice amp for everything i play. it's not a metal amp or a twang amp, but it's got all the other bases covered. i'd be more specific if i'd had it serviced already. it could use new tubes and maybe a recone (if not a whole new spkr all together). it picks up radio stations occasionally, haha.

Reliability : 8
it's pretty tough-the only things broken are the reverb and phasor.
i'd say its a tank.

Customer Support : No Opinion
i've never dealt with the company, although i don;t think they'd have anything to do with a 25+ yo amp if i did.

Overall Rating : 8
this amp is the heaviest amp ever. compared to my ultimate chorus, this thing is ridiculous. i have no idea why it weighs so much. outfitting it with casters is a must.

This amp first hit the market in 1979. I was a dealer for MusicMan and at that time the company was still owned by Leo Fender. I bought and still own the first one that arrived at my store. Someone said the amp has two channels -- mine does not. It has two inputs -- low and high and two effects in/out (low level and 3V). I use the low level quite a bit with a sterio jack to a Morley Volume pedal and/or an Ibanez digital delay. It has a solid state preamp and a tube power output (a very conservative 100 watts). The EV speaker sounds lousy at lower power settings but sounds pretty good when you crank it up (someone mentioned changing it out and I think that is a good idea). I have not found any reason to use the 3V in/out and both the phaser and reverb (spring) could be stronger although they work well enough. I mostly use this amp in small rooms where I am not able to crank it up loudly enough for it to really sing.

Sound Quality : 8
I play a '55 Gretsch Streamliner (hollow body single pickup jazz guitar) a Les Paul, a Gibson SG and an old Guild gut string with Fishman prefix pro under saddle/mic combo w/equalization. It works surprisingly well with the former and latter. I normally play it clean and it has at med to high volume a gutsy tube sound reminescent of the old Fenders. Crank up the preamp and you can make it as distorted as you wish.

Reliability : 10
I have never had any problems with the amp during the twenty plus years I have owned it, however I only use it occasionally. It is a very heavy amp. I do not take a backup amp when I use it.

Customer Support : No Opinion
When Leo Fender owned MusicMan company support was excellent. I was the authorized repair facility and modesty aside, it too, was excellent however I can't remember servicing a single MusicMan amp during the two years I owned the store.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
I have owned or used many types of amplifiers. I am partial to the old Fender twin reverb but would prefer a late 70's MusicMan 212 130 if I had to replace this amp. Both are too heavy but the 130 has a better reverb and a tremelo which I sometimes wish I had. A built-in phaser is no big deal any longer.

I wish I knew what year the amp was made and I would like to find an Owners manual for it. I play a Les Paul, a Strat and an accoustic guitar through it. For the accoustic I just turn on the deep switch and turn down the treble and mid to 1 or 2. the phasor is awesome but the reverb could be stronger.

Sound Quality : 8
I play an accoustic, a Les Paul, and a tri-single coil Strat.

Reliability : 7
I have only had problems with the fact that it is so heavy.

I do not know the exact year this amp was manufactured. This is a two channel amp.IT has, a hi gain and a .low gain inputs. There is a master gain along with a volume.there are also a lo level line/ line out, and a 3 volt input a hi level line in/ line out.I rarely use these inputs, but i have used the low level line to drive head phones and send to a recording deck. This amp is a tube amp, the preamp is soild state..One of the resons i picked this amp up was for the great sound of the phasor...pretty nice effect good control. The reverb is stock spring verb no problems there.this is a 100 watt amp but i am loosing power, probably need to replace the tubes and check the transformers....Overall this amp is a solid workhourse, I have used it for bout ten years.with no major failures so far.

Sound Quality : 9
I ues this amp with a 3 single coil strat copy guitar, but i have played many guitars threw it..I play a more bluesier, funky , can of style. It can handle that country tele twang also. This amp is quiet for the most part unless you crank the volume up pass the eight 1/2 limit. There it tends to get a bit noisey.I use a real tube pedal and also a boss overdrivre/ distortion for my lead distortion.

Reliability : 10
This amp is very dependable,I just cant seem to blow it up!!When i bought this amp the owner said he replaced the tubes, but i think that i am ready to do that again. The only problems i had was once i had to replace a fuse. And the cord for the reverb phasor was tatered, looks a dog ate it.

Customer Support : No Opinion

I have never contacted Ernie Ball..all the service was done locally I would like to find the exact year of this amp and find out what tubes came stock at that time...

Overall Rating : 9
I ahve been playing for about over twenty years..If it was stolen I would be bummed .. this is my companion a real work horse not pretty but it works for me. I really like the phasor.better than any pedal i have come across, great for Jazz and the 60 s stuff. If anyone owns one of these amps i might recommend changing the speaker.I replaced the stock speaker with a Carvin brit 100 speaker, brought more life out of this ol timer... (anything else) this amp is heavy!! to gig with ..ha ha
